It's something we actually talked about not too too long ago. But I can't get over it because you would said a Western conference finals is success for this oil team this season. Like you'd be happy with that. And I just think about it when I lay my head to the pillow at night. And I, nothing about a Western conference finals birth would satisfy me for this oiler's team. I'm so in and I get that it's hard to win all of it. It's never lost on me. There's a lot of good teams, a lot of good players out there. But it has to be cup or bust. Mackenzie? Oh, okay. Yep. Sorry. Give me two seconds. I agree. It has to be cup or bust because they have done everything that they pretty much possibly can. Broaden three new goal tenders this year.

4:02I, okay. In the last season and a half, I guess, three new goal tenders, new coach, new mindset, completely trying to adjust the way that we know them to play. So I think cup or bust and if it doesn't happen, Nick David is gone. Wanya? That is very harsh country, Mack. I have to process what you just said. I mean, it's tough to say, right? Like, did you, I don't know if you guys saw the interview on the couch with Armdog and the Crosby and Connor? But when they went to him, I can't remember the question was, but somebody the effective, like, do you have a lot of pressure on you? Poor Connor was just like, oh, do I? Like, it's a tough, there's so many things. I, I would still maintain the 23, 24 lost because everybody was so injured. Not because of determination, not because of drive, but because of injury. It's a long season. I think it's a tough one to say cup or bust. I, I mean, I'll stand by it. I said that was how my outlook for the start of the season.

5:04If they don't win a playoffs series failure, if they win two playoffs series, good. They make it to the Western conference final. I think he did a good thing. If you get to that point, you know, at the start of that series, you're probably in a pretty good spot. So I don't consider it to be a failure. Yannis once said there is no failures in sports, you know? He had also completed basketball by the age of 26. Like, everyone loves to bring up that Yannis quote. You know what else Yannis had done by that point? Everything there is to do in the game of basketball. How do you want to champion? Yes, he has. Listen to what he says is what you're telling me that he's a wise man. But I'm saying it when he talks about steps to success, he had won. Like he gets to say those things. He had won. I just think that they'll like cup or bust. Like, okay, well, 99% of the time you're just setting yourself up to failure. You have something's going to happen. Like, look at this past season for the oilers. What happened? You're injured down the middle. You lost in round one. So, okay, yeah, it's a failure. Anytime you don't win a Stanley Cup in sport, it's a failure. So 31 of 32 teams are going to fail. But not 31 out of 32 teams don't have the same expectations and goals. But they all failed.

6:04But the can, but the canucks not winning the Stanley Cup is, is like that, that knife is a lot at shallower than the oil not winning the Stanley Cup. You would agree with that. Yeah, you're not wrong. But they're still a failure. I kind of, yeah, but I'm saying, you're, but you're putting a bit too wide of an umbrella on it for my liking. Like, I'm saying, if the canucks, if they don't get, if they, if they're not dashed a hundred a hundred at the end of this season, that's a successful season. Like it goes in tears. It's a graded system and the oil exists. They're on the Dean's list and the connoxer in the remedial class. Yeah. I mean, I'm just saying, like if they're a top four team in the league, I'd say, okay, you had a good year. You know when the cup, sure. Yeah, you failed. That's at that point, sure, you failed. But we'll wait to see what happens if they get there. 31 of 13's don't have McDavid. Well, they have other damn good teams though, don't they? McDavid's been in the league for 10 years. Has it won a cup? All these other half teams. They don't have McDavid. That one guy in Anaheim, the super fast guy.

7:05What's his name? Carlson. No, no. No. Third guy. New guy. Santa. Santa. Santa. Yeah. He caught Conner McDavid in that game on a play and Conner was like, shrinking the offensive zone and that guy took like five strides and caught him. And I was like, I've never in my life seen someone catch Conner McDavid in full stride. Teams are catching up. Who? Mackenzie, what do you got? All right. Mine is more sports adjacent. If that's okay, actually, I'm not going to say that because there is no option. It's my only one. Okay. So next week, Dancing with the Stars, they are having Super Bowl week. Joe Buck is going to be the guest host. They're all doing dances to songs of past Super Bowl half time show performers or special guests. And my prediction is that they are going to announce Miley Cyrus as the half time performer next week.

8:07All signs are pointing to her. She's been in rumors and talks for many years now. I think it's her time. If you don't think it's Miley Cyrus, who do you think it would be? And one of the Cyrus's just throw Miley under the bus and say like, I heard that she's doing the Super Bowl. I didn't see it. Which, I think Noah. Noah. I know. Loose lips, sink ships. You got to sign NDAs with your family now, I guess. You have to. In that household, you have to. I think she'd be great. I don't want it to be Jay-Z and Beyonce. No, me either. Miley 100%. She needs it. Or Bieber. Or Bieber. Bieber would be fly. I looked it up. Apparently the bedding odds favorite is Jay-Z. I love Jay-Z. Block album, I think, is one of my favorite albums of all time. Listen to it. Front to back. I said, and I'll say it again. I thought Metallica would have been an awesome concert last year. They had a little bit of an upkick. They were in one of the later seasons of Stranger Things. So people were kind of finding their way to it. Last year it was in the Bay.

9:08They're from the Bay area. I thought it would have been awesome. They went in a different direction. Bad Bunny was cool. I'm good either way. I didn't mind when we put on a hell of a show. Yeah. I, you know, not to be too old men yells at cloud, but I've never really cared too much. I think the favorite, you know, musical artist is like Lil Baby. And my favorite band is Matchbox 20. Like they're not going to be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show. Imagine they did together. Yeah, that'd be what a concert that would be. You'd be so happy. Yeah. And the bills are playing in the game. And it's like, man, forget about it. Yeah, I could see it for sure. It'd be pretty cool. I think she's a great performer. In regards to your actual prediction, they announced it. That seems a little specific to me. They announced it on Dancing with the Stars with Joe Buck. I mean, maybe I'm not too tapped into that world. So I could see it. I like it. I think it'd be cool. Rihanna put on a heck of a show. So yeah, I'm with it. Let's go Miley. She's got some major pipes, by the way. Like she can belt it out. And personally, I don't think it should be Jay-Z, because if you're going to play on

10:14the LA type of stuff, and like that's what they did the last time the Super Bowl was in SoFi, I just, it would make more sense if the Super Bowl was in New York, which doesn't happen ever. So Jay-Z, there's a bit of a disconnect there. It did happen. Oh, did. Seahawks killed the Broncos. Okay. Sorry, not on the last five years. It doesn't have it often. Yeah. Yeah. If she could close with party in the USA, that would just be fantastic. Who's, what network airs Dancing with the Stars? ABC. Okay. And they're airing the Super Bowl. So it could make sense to. It's like it makes sense. Probably not a little bit. My Taylor Swift Easter Egg brain is working overtime right now. You're analyzing the situation. Yes. Camros, Chris, is baby, well says, lol baby, little baby, in matchbox 20. Who hurt you? That's just diverse. And Deck, I thought you were the opposite of old man yelling at clouds. You're just like, sure. If you were like old man yelling at a cloud, you just hate on Miley for no reason.

11:17Right. My point was, I guess, to that point, it was a little more like, I just, I want to watch the game. Like I don't care too much who the artist is, but I hear and JLo put on an awesome show. That was almost the closing ceremony is a humanity because the world shut down like eight weeks. It was, I remember, I was working out as a street team member for that station down the dial that didn't pay me enough. And I was there with my buddy doing like a 1260 event. And we were just staring at each other because we couldn't believe what we were watching. We were like, this is crazy. We flew too close to the sun as a society. I guess by letting them both do the halftime show. And then we paid the price. Soldier Boy would be amazing. If we could dig him up, he'd be a good halftime performance deck. So is the criteria for being a halftime show performer being a washed up pop star from 10 years ago? Yes. From JR and Red Deer. Okay, JR. What do you want? Miley is not washed up. Let's just get that clear right now. She is very prevalent in the music spaces.

12:20She may not be what you listen to, but I consider myself like the target audience for many things because when you look at the target audience for things, it's like 25 to 40, right? Kind of. That's what I learned in radio school. So unless they're teaching me the wrong things, my target audience, Miley would be very happy. We would be very happy with Miley. And she's not washed up. You don't want to open a timer on the Super Bowl. You want somebody who's been huge for a long time. Exactly. To draw in maximum rating. And she has such a big discography that you can have something from every era, right? So it makes sense. Yeah, you know what? I'd be okay with it. I don't really party in the USA. See you again. That's a huge track. Ricking ball. Unbelievable. And I was talking to Mack before we did this. And I'm like, well, you know, she's also got like collabs with some pretty big artists as well. She did this song with Britney Spears. You bring Britney out for a song? I don't know if that's possible.

13:21It is possible. Okay. Anything is possible. Anything. Thank you for asking. To say, how easy on the old Broncos wounds. Yeah. That's why I had to bring up the old Super Bowl. My buddy was flown down. He's good connection to the Broncos organization. Was went down with the family and like cheer team and stuff. He said, went to the after party when the Broncos lost to the Seahawks. Pretty depressing. They have the like the hotel. That being said, the Broncos got their win a few years later. The first thing I wanted to talk to you about naturally Philip Hollander going to be drawing in four max Jones on the second line there with Jason Dickinson, Kasperi, Capin and do you like the placement as Max Jones who you would have taken out to everything there seemed pretty chalk and according to plan. Max Jones last game really struggled and was was just wasn't playing very well. So I'm too many giveaways in that second period one shift we had three giveaways. So I kind of thought it was a no brainer that he'd be coming out. Yeah, what like what do you make of that? What you've seen from Alex for minton and Matt Joseph because I agree like Max Jones the obvious case to anyone who's watching the games for minton like his claim to fame to me

16:25so far in these first four games is not looking completely outclassed in a game where they lost six five and overtime Matthew Joseph. Like I like the idea of what he brings, but he's been another guy who you just don't see it always with him and to be fair like these are guys Max Jones and Matt Joseph especially their guys who this kind of is you know who they are they're probably in the lineup until they're not for whatever that's worth until a guy like you whoever comes back and Philip Hollander can come in but just a quick breakdown on those two I guess if you will. Yeah, for minton's got to do more for me. He is at some point you know you got to see him you know creating a little bit of chaos on a forecheck some more hand that you know Joseph neither one of them has done great. I didn't expect a huge amount you know for me to a Matthew Joseph I kind of had pencil then is maybe a 13 forward who could come in as a reliable veteran. Skates well he's more physical than for minton if you know if that matters you know I'm not sure how much it matters but it might matter you know a little bit for Mike Balkox.

17:28So we'll see but you know you look at you know Heimins out Newgen Hopkins out docks out so boys out now Hollander comes in so there's still four more guys in this roster when everybody sells it which is going to be a few months but you know Heimins going to be back probably next week you know he's not playing tomorrow I'm not even sure he's going to play in LA to be honest I guess there's a chance but I got to believe I'll see it when I believe it. Newgen Hopkins has a growing injury and my understanding is you know he's hoping to get back on the ice next week so you know those guys still got time it's only four games and you know what like the penalty kill there's room to improve but I would like to see a little bit more Max Jones I thought was an obvious guy to take out of the lineup but like like Owen Michaels right now it was way ahead of both Farmington I know it was a center but he's way ahead of Farmington and Joseph and now Hollander comes in and if Hollander like look at Hollander is getting right up to the second line with Dickensyn and Capon and right off the hop so that's you know it's a good sign for him I think they believe

18:31that maybe he's got a little bit more punch now when everybody returns I think he's probably a third line guy in a realistic world and there's nothing wrong with that but you know if they were able to turn Stashtey into a regular on this team that's a win for me because Stashtey was never going to be a regular. Yeah you you brought up the the forward checking with Alex Farmington and Babs that actually made the comment that he wanted to see better forward checking from this team I wanted to get your take on that like you know I think of the first period in the Anaheim game and they didn't really have a chance to forward check I mean Anaheim just held the pucks so often in that period they just look so much faster so much cleaner than the second and the third Ebbenton just took over for the through the first four games is that do you think he's he's nailed that on the head like forward checking needs to be a point of emphasis for this team? Well they have big more aggressive on the forward check but there's certain guys I find who like Farmington's big and speedy and I barely know this amount of forward check yeah right so you know he hasn't disrupted much I haven't seen a lot of turnovers from him I haven't seen a lot of checks finished from him and and that's where I think you know that Mike Babcock every guy

19:36here no one when you start to get him in back and then Newgen Hopkins and then Doc and Savoy when those guys start to come back and if these guys don't improve their game no one can complain that they weren't given an opportunity right I hear at this this myth that your bottom guys are all gonna play 12 and 13 minutes I tried to align it to everybody at the start of the year I didn't expect to see a significant increase in overall minutes by some players but and so far that's proven to to be true I do think the fact that they play like one game every three days is is allowing him to play McDavid Moore not to mention Newgen Hopkins and Savoy and Heim and Routza that's basically three or top six forwards so I but their four check needs to be I think a little bit more consistent at times they're chipping but they're dumping it into areas where they got no chance to even get a body on it or get a stick on it so part of their four check and I think a little bit has to do with where they're when and where they're dumping the puck so you you mentioned Zach Hyman took this he skated this morning you mentioned not gonna play in San Jose you'd be surprised if you

23:50come playoff time like when you look at this bottom nine how many guys on this bottom nine right now do you think are going to be playing with it and this is kind of a weird way to phrase the question but how many guys do you think come playoff time in this bottom nine are gonna be playing with at least one of their line partners that they're playing with right now because I look through this bottom nine and I could make the argument it's like it might be two or three guys well I think Dickinson and Capron probably have a decent chance to to play together and they could be the the basis of a third line it all depends if they want to you know when they're good I think those separate and my back cock basically gave us the blueprint to what is thinking is when they get their other guys back he'll split up McDavid and dry settle on the road which what everybody knows is a better thing for now it makes sense they're killing it and you just don't have a lot of other offensive guys so you know what you got to get like why weaken your one dominant line because your never two lines aren't going to be as powerful that's just a fact but I would say Capron and Dickinson I have a chance I think that well Samansky know Howard know Joseph

25:00Farmington maybe but I think all and Michaels with one of those wingers would have a chance to be on the same line Jason Gregor joining us here on the Jason Gregor Show Declan Krueger One you're going to sit in for Connor Halle and Jason emotional one you would have to think for Darnell Nurse this this upcoming Saturday. Spec it tweeted the picture that he was leading the post post-pact practice stretch for the sharks just emotionally for for him in this one you know the amount of time he spent here being part of the leadership group ending up in a lot of ways being one of the whipping boys of the fans of the city what do you think this one kind of means for him all things considered and I guess as you know an add on to that what do you think his game will look like come Saturday. Well I've talked to lots of players who have experienced this over the years and it's better that the first one is in their new home rink so they don't have the emotion of facing their good friends and being in the building we have all these memories at times they feel it's a bit of an over mode so you know I think it's going to be weird for Nurse but I

26:04also think it's going to be weird for McDavid and dryside like Darnell like those guys have been like best friends like they're super tight they played together for a decade they went to two Stanley Cup finals together they hung out all the time right like they've seen them all get married they see Nurse have kids so it it is it's a game unlike any of them have experienced before because I know that you know McDavid dries it on face Cody C. C. and they face Cory Perry and other guys but nobody that they were like really really good friends with for a decade so I think it would be emotional I think Nurse will probably be just fine you know you saw him score a huge goal for San Jose last game that that allows you to fit in even more but like he'll he'll be fired up make no mistake he's going to want to win and and so is you know sort of the orders but you know I expect Nurse to to be fine I'm curious to see because the one they nurse went against McDavid and dryside on practice a ton right and and Connor used to tell me all the time it goes like going one to one against Darnell because he skates so well you know it is challenging more than some of

27:08the other guys now that was in practice it wasn't in a game and so I'd like to see it I want to see it Nurse has always been a good skater there's no doubt about that is Biggie's long now you know he never played overly mean in front of the net so I don't think he's suddenly going to be running around and you know going after McDavid or dryside but it is one where you do have to separate his heart as it is that he's a shark now and his first party of loyalty is to the shark so if he has a chance to lay away in the mouth he has to do it yeah I want to get to this one because Lance had this one on the text line 1-833-4-114-140 is always joined the conversation and then I want to talk some elks quickly before we take a break but he said can you ask Jason if it's unfair that Philip Hollander is getting top six minutes right away and I coward doesn't like my interpretation that is just the nature of the beast and how this roster exists today on October 9th but what's your take on Lance's question well first of all life isn't fair there's nothing that says because you are drafted higher you automatically gifted more opportunity right you're just not that's

28:11that's just the reality of like being a first-round draft pick means you're the first-round draft pick on draft day it doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get top six minutes before other guys right that's just that's just the reality the NHL it happens all over so I don't really get caught up too much in fair um I think they look at it and say hey we they obviously scut them they like them they think he fits in more and like I've said before that Hollander Dickinson captain line will likely get a lot of minutes against celebries line I don't think I want to do that to iKauer is a rookie right Hollander's 26 he's and he's got a much better defensive background coming from Sweden than Howard does that you know I Howard I know he's on quote to Ford's line but starting in the offensive zone you know it's playing against the other teams bottom six he's in actually a better chance to succeed now the limited minutes yes is he playing with his many skill players no but just when you play with more skill players you also have to play against better players so it's not always a guarantee of easier or better when you play at the top guys elkset to kick off

34:28going to go Austin Mac have a big game all right question number two the elx have already secured a playoff spot and it now comes down to finishing either for first or second in the west the elx win tonight and BC loses to Ottawa they can clinch first the elx lose and BC wins tonight they still have the opportunity when when a peg comes to Edmonton next week where do you think the elx finish first or second in the west I would say they're going to finish first for the simple reason that they're they got a lot of motion and they're hot deck yeah I agree I think they're going to finish first as well the magic number is two out of these next three I think they get two out of those next three in some capacity it would take and let's not give BC a lot of credit they've been very hot you can make the argument they've been the I don't want to say best but certainly the hottest team in the CFL in the last nine games their record would indicate that at eight and one I just think Edmonton in these next three they're going to find a way to get two it starts tonight

43:52an easy pick for me not to make the playoffs after last year i i didn't love the roster last year and i wasn't sold at dam the dark at dam the dark a season again two and roach hard for good goalies to do it proven guys so not surprised there uh calgary you know what um they should be happy being bad it's hard being bad all year but that's that's where they're out of their rebuild i will say i'm a little surprised by their coaches unwillingness to play as young guys they score a goal last night and then they play like three minutes in the second period like what the hell are you doing you're losing go down with their young guy at least are scoring so that that's a little odd to me um you know sometimes you have a coach on a rebuild team that just doesn't grasp the concept that hey if we're going to lose and at least lose a little bit with our young guys so we'll see there um the rangers i thought were poised for bounce back here obviously an addiction stir could be scoring goals and assist this much early on the year so that's an added bonus to them and you know good for a stew skater um i was not one who believed that stew skater was the only reason

44:54the emton orders lost i used to argue that all the time and you know now it's four games and actually he's played three of them but you know what uh the crowds loving him and right now the crowds loving him because there was some of them that started to to not like elabot basically do as to his nationality more than anything else so you know skater coming in playing well uh in a fan base that was just hoping to have a goalie play well has been the the perfect mix for him and you know the japs were a team last year that i thought there were more arguably the biggest underachiever in the league like like no we go from present trophy to just a dud so i thought that they would bounce back now it's super early they're in a tough division you tall looks good they're still minnesota there's collar out of there's Dallas like they're going to be in tough but the jets early on do look better and and that's a good thing um you know for them and that division it's a good thing for i like i always root kind of for the jets that they're kind of like the rider used to be the cfl they never mind anything so everybody didn't mind them as their second favorite team and i think the jets are that way to a lot of people in canada i remember i think it was at

45:58the end of last season you talked about the black hawks and them being you know it wouldn't be this year but they were a year away from making that playoff push obviously there's still so much time that can happen and but like when you watch them early and again it can't be reiterated enough how early it is but do you still feel like they might be a year away like i when i watched a cog on granted i don't watch with a magnifying glass the way i do some other teams or some other sports but like when i watched the black hawks they they still seem to me to just like they're so young such a lack of cohesion like they just seem so off in a lot of regards well they're also about their best player but like yeah i think counterbeard last year to start this season was like top four and scoring till he got hurt like that that's a massive loss for your team so because if you push him down now frankenzar is your second line center front dalsier third line center it just allows those guys a better chance to play lesser competition so i do think there's a trickle down effect for them no question i need chicago you're right i said at the start i still thought they were
