Jason, the first question I had asked is back and I'm going to ask you as well. Philip Hollander, he's obviously the news of the day he's drawing in to the lineup. He's going to be in the top six playing alongside Jason Dickinson and Desperate Capon, which we made the point is really kind of a third line. Cause playing is the second line. But your thoughts on him drawing into the lineup and then obviously just expectations. Well, one thing that I looked at is it hasn't played that much in the last two years with Pittsburgh because you have the blood plot. But when he played with Sydney, Cigar, Cigar, and Brian, Rust, there was some real offense there. He produced at a pretty impressive level. Now when he plays on third and fourth line, he doesn't score much as you would expect. You know, they want to sub plenty of those types, but there is a little bit of offensive upside. He finished, I think second in the Swedish league in points in 2425. This is a really sneaky get from Stan Bowman. I, you know, I'm interested in why Babcock is putting it there. But I think the owners might feel he has a little more offense than most of the people who looked at the trade thing.
And the fact that they put him where he is suggests that maybe the others manage when he coaching staff believe the same thing. I'll be interested in seeing what he what kind of number he has after 20 games. Yeah, and you touched on a little bit by saying, you know, by peaking the interest of what his numbers can look like and what they can look like after 20 games. I guess anytime you bring in a player to a team like this is maybe the most fair way to him to phrase it. What is best case scenario for Philip Hollander? Like what what to these 20 games, what would his best case scenario within the realm of possibility look like for him that would make you stop and say like, yes, we got one there. Oh boy, they nailed it. Well, there's two different ways to be as up on a skill line, then you want them to be, you know, after 20 games. If he's on the second line, you'd like him to have 10 points because that's about a 40 point player. And then the NHL 40 point player on the second line is about average and you, you know, you didn't trade for a below average player on the checking line. I would just like to see him out score.
And it is possible. You know, the others have an entire second line on the IR when new German and Matt Savoy return. It could be Dickinson and and Hollander and you know, cast very captain. And then the other line can outscore at five on five. And you know, he's contributing it was less offensively than if he was on a high skill line. But that's all I'd like to see because the others, you know, since Connor McDavid, it is very rare since 2015. But you want us to have a third and a fourth line that outscores opposition at five on five. This guy's the two late players got size and speed. There's a lot to like about him. I got like Matthew Joseph who came in and you know, he has great reputation. He's not as fast maybe is, you know, people thought he might be. This fellow might be a little faster. I think there's an opportunity here for him when everybody's back and healthy. I think he might be playing and some of the other guys who were here when he arrived might not be the Babcock is still kind of looking at this team.
But I say outscoring on the third line and scoring enough to stay on a second line if he were less for the opportunity. Do you any qualms to the fact that he comes in and he's seeing the top six immediately while I coward on the other hand has, you know, lived on the fourth line. Well, I, you know, I remember when the others would call up somebody or they'd have a hot shot player. And when Matti made a decision on him. This is 20 years ago, over 20 years ago, that's this is what what would happen. What's happening. I coward is how, you know, Matti had a hand of Rob shrimp and Yani Rita and those guys and it tells me that that caught either isn't convinced or they decided to wait until. And then the new coach comes back and you know, maybe a time when Leon is playing center right now, I coward has a look of a guy who's headed the Bakersfield or another NHL city.
He's playing like eight minutes a night. You get if you're exceptional. You can't do a lot with that. So and you know, Babcock's, you know, his job is to win hockey games and and we'll see how this goes. But if I'm leaning anywhere, it's leaning towards a trade of like Howard sometime this year and he could get sent down first, but I, I think they would probably try to move them before they did that. He could be sooner than later. Yeah, I do. There's, you know, there's they they're, they're, the key now, Declan is for that clock to get a feel for the team. And, and you know, you can tell like the fact that they try to drop, they needed a right handed center. Everybody said it was going to be doc. Everybody said it was going to be Kirby doc on Montreal. And then they check down to hominters, a left handed left winger. So that tells us a couple of things. Number one, they've made some decisions on some guys. And then, you know,
I, you know, Bowden doc played well enough for Babcock to stay in the lineup. So I think he's fine. Let's say get back the three players who are on I are, they're going to have to make some decisions. Max Jones is easy. Josh the math, he's easy. I don't know the, you know, Stan Bum was kind of attached to I call her. So I don't think they send them out, but they might trade him. And I think that it could happen as soon as Babcock saying, yeah, I know, I know what I have here. I'm happy with this line. And, you know, proceed accordingly, because I'm not going to play this player. So I, it could happen fairly quickly. And if you're, if you're Bowman, I think he made a distute trade in picking up Halibur. So if he ends up working out, then I think you'll see another shoot drop here. This lineup isn't done yet. Low tide joining us here on the Jason Gregor Show Declan Kruger sitting in for Connor Hallean Jason Gregor. You can hear him Monday, noon to two here on sports 1440 host of the lowdown. Babs had made a comment when talking to the media earlier today about he wants, you know, he wants the team to focus on being a better for checking team.
And I was trying to think back and like, yeah, the first Vancouver team, you know, the for check wasn't great. The first period against Anaheim didn't really have a chance to for check. And then in the second and third period, didn't have a chance for a completely different reason. But like I, I don't know if I've watched this team and thought like, oh, yeah, wow, for checking has been a really has been a real glaring weakness. Like am I, am I off my rocker with that? Do you think that's been something that this team needs to be that much better at?
Not the national 48 day average see if you could pay as a little as zero dollars for therapy in seconds at growtherapy.com slash start now that's growtherapy.com slash start now growtherapy.com slash start now availability and coverage vary by state and insurance plan. Bikes online dot com. Ride more for less. No, I think what happened was he the ducks blew the doors off the orders in the first period. Oh, speed was just insane. Yeah, and that's like that. Cox watching that and he goes, I want that I want what Anaheim has. So that's what I think this that's what this is where where you know he's like he's talking like it's well, it's been a season long thing, but really what it's been is he he did not like what happened in the first period against Anaheim.
And so, you know, and they look like I'll give credit the Babcock and the orders because they are not a great second period team, but against Anaheim, they really turned it around. I'd love to know what he said because they were a different team, but I think that all of the things that Babcock said were related to that first period where Anaheim looked like it looked like last spring again when the orders were all hurt and not playing well and you know, and you know, he's got that price got a great line like that top line can equalize anything. So they're like there are four games in and there's seven goals for zero against a five on five. So I think he he had his top line set the tone and then everybody else was racing in the second and the third period, but that first period, I think scared Babcock and kind of let him know that, you know, so far he's been skating with one good line and then three fourth lines. I think that first period against Anaheim kind of shook up this coaching staff a little bit. They've got to do a little bit more work and I do think that's why Hollander is on the second line at practice today.
LT, they're saying that the salary cap is going to jump from 88 million to 127 million by 2829. I just want to get your take on ignoring these eye popping numbers, but I'm just wondering like what do you think the impact will be on the NHL with the salary cap going that high? Well, I, first of all, I really regret having so many wagon wheels and eat more as when I was a kid because I would have loved to be in the NHL when this kind of money was around, but I think there's going to be more open thought about first of all for general managers to make trades that that maybe they wouldn't have thought about like the others, you know, right now everybody's on the IR so they don't have a lot of money to wheel, but when players get back here, I think that we're going to see some some moves, not just the others, but other teams. I've seen the national met another trade today. I think you're going to see a lot of activity we we've kind of been clogged up here in trades for a long time because of money. People don't want to take on a big salary unless they can send one away for the next I don't know 18 months or so maybe even longer NHL general managers will have more freedom to make moves and that means they'll be able to trade some guys who, you know, were previously thought to be, you know, untradable pet or something Vancouver, you know, there's talk of the burn cat right now.
Being dealt so I think some of those bigger, bigger salaries will move and I think anaheim also set the tone with what they did in the summertime. Maybe desperation or worry about losing another guy, but you're going to see good young players signed even if they've only played like 14 NHL games. If a team's convinced of them, then I think they'll go ahead and pay them the bigger dollars for longer term. Those are the two changes, I think we'll see more trades and we have it a long time and the younger players who are really good. Are going to get paid right away. It's incredible. I saw an interview with Matthew Barnaby and he was talking about being part of the O three Rangers lineup with like Lindross and Burrey and Brian Leach and all these different guys and their salaries in 2003 was a 93 million dollar cat. And like you won't find too many businesses that have had sort of this weird U shaped salary progression, right. And when you think about Paul career making 10 million dollars a year, not that it was undeserved, but he's making 10 million here in 1994 in 1994 dollars.
The NHL is really just sort of catching up to where it was 30 years ago. It's crazy. Oh, yeah, and it's also why you know, majorly baseball players, the MLB players association has always been the strongest, always been the strongest going back to when I was a kid. Why they're so absolutely dead against the salary cap because salary cap suppress and and what happens is or what happened in the NHL. So maybe it's because the personality of the top hockey players is it right now it's going all the really great young players are getting the big money. And that means that at some point in time there's only so much pie to go around. So the third and fourth liners are going to be making $875,000 or 1.2 million because the big money is going to go to the big players. And majorly baseball, the, you know, they they've had basically the career period. Let's say they were equal with majorly baseball at that time, but they've been running free for decades now where the NHL has the salary cap and the salary cap suppresses it suppresses the top end and it makes everybody more shades of equal.
And that's why you've got economic David, you know, probably leaving hundreds of millions on the table by the time his career is over, which is I mean ridiculous, but that is the case. I'll just check in the numbers here. L T and it said in 95 96 league revenue was 936 million and it's estimated to be 7.5 billion this season. Right. So don't get into negotiation with people who know lots about money. It's good advice on a Friday afternoon. And you look at you know every once in a while, Declan will say to me, hey, did you know this NBA player isn't a regular. It makes more than McDavid and I cringe. I just cringe and I saw McDavid the other day saying that he's delighted about, you know, the NHL salary is going up. It is insane what economic David hasn't made in his 11 or 12 years of the NHL. Yeah, I always think about that as well for like a guy like LeBron James and it's obviously very different scenarios, but you think about the money, you know, he brought in and generated for the league as a whole and he's like, you can make the argument he's been underpaid by a billion dollars, right?
You know, economic David in that same threshold and he is taking like a legitimate legitimate discount here over the next couple of years. So it's always just a funny kind of side conversation. LT just one more for you. Zach Hyman skated today, not projected to go in San Jose. Jason doesn't think he's going to go against L.A. either. When do you think we see him back and who comes out of the lineup? Well, I think they've got time now. They've bought some time with their success that they've had. So you want to make really good and sure, you know, Hyman is like 34. So chances are you're not going to get him for, you know, he might be out of the lineup again later in the year. So you want to make absolutely sure he's ready to go. Sometimes in the, you know, latter part of October, I would imagine he's probably, you know, maybe as a play in L.A. Maybe he plays later next week, but I think keeping him healthy is the ideal thing. So if there's, there's no pressure right now. They don't have to race him back. The team is winning hockey games. So make sure he's 100% do the same with new.
So while a little different easy younger player, it's a pretty severe injuries, but for a while, but they should be able to recover and go right back in the lineup. But as far as who will be out of the lineup, I think probably my guess is Samansky. They'd have to move Frederick over or, or in certain doc into the lineup after he gets off I R. But eventually it's going to be a number one guy heading out will be Max Jones. Then I think it'll be Samansky. And then you're going to have to make a decision either I coward or one of the veterans that they did bring in. And I mean, it could be for him and it could be Joseph to be any of those guys. But right now, I mean, I think that the indications are based on the lines we saw today that if he does enough for checking and playing well. That the new guy that they got from Pittsburgh is going to be moving ahead as some of the guys who were in the lineup when he was traded for I think that Babcock has made a decision on a couple of players here.
