I'm going to be a bit of a fan of the show. Try Beltown for Vanguard. When did you last compare your Super? What are you role in your Osbert? I thought I was getting away from all the... You'd actually, before the break, said there's not much going on, but you'd think you'd ring it anyway. I'm not ringin' it. This is the show. We've just done half an hour in the NBA. I think people are pretty came for a change of scene. Yeah, we would be if there was stuff happening. I know you can talk about shooting mechanics for 45 minutes. I like it. I'm going to be there later. The rest of us might grow a little weary. Hey, Bobby Hill's done the interview. This is as cliched as the trade period gets when you've lost your way at a particular club and you've got an appetite to resuscitate your career and he gave the interview to Channel 9. Yeah, I was, hopefully, if clubs out there want me and hopefully I can get back on that, I'm pretty confident I can show what I can do if not even better when games are tamed. Yeah, I think there's a lot of love with the game and now I'm back for one of your back in Sweden. I do miss it, so I can't. Tom Althalb, whether it gets another chance at the moment, Jojo, it stands to be a walking
proof of a chronic waste of talent and a fair bit awarded to go under that bridge I think before it even gets to a stage where another club would be willing to take him on on another deal. Yep. He's got some work to do. So the words are fantastic and it's good that he has a desire to get back to WFL level but don't be surprised if he needs to work his way back through potentially a state league system. Would that be more likely? Yeah, I think he'd probably have to do the time there. As he run out of runway to prove that he'd be worth a rookie spot or even a train on selection? No, it's possible, clearly. I think it's against the odds though. I think he needs to sort of get into a club quickly and also do everything meticulously to prove that. It'll be tempting though. It'll be tempting for clubs. Oh, yeah. No doubt about it. It's absolutely. Really tempting for a club like in Essendon or Richmond or something like that at the moment. GWS spoke about Lockheed Whitfield. He's on the move. Looks what's going to be Carlton or Melbourne. Okay. We know that.
So we'll see where that goes. Choice to be made potentially for Lockheed Whitfield who's met with both clubs and who would you choose? Who would I personally choose? Oh, that's a tough one, isn't it? I really like what Melbourne did with Stephen King and you could see him sliding right into that backflank but the Blues as well, desperate for backflankers and runners. Maybe go with the fatter contract. See where we go. Security, money, young family. It's hard to know which team will be better performance, isn't it? Because they're both finished in incredibly similar positions. How much of what happened at Carlton when Josh Fraser took over? Carries on. Carries over? Tough call. I mean, we know he wants to play on the G. He's playing the big games in front of the big crowds. So both team have both. Well, they both play. Melbourne Creek. Yeah, Carlton split their home ground with Marvel of course, but the Ds obviously there every second week or more. She I know. So I'm leaning to Marvel if I was Carlton. I know you get the big crowds at the G, but I went to a few of their games this year. Good record. Gold Coast, West Coast and Freeman.
Right now. They have a lot of the Melbourne clubs. Bruceman go reluctantly. I didn't go to that game. Sorry. I know some of the Melbourne comes clubs reluctantly go to Marvel. The Carlton fans now clearly the groundswell was there already, but they went and absolutely rocked at Marvel. Yeah. Now they did. I think commercially it isn't as good, but clearly the apatot was there from the fans and the players had a good record. A bit strange isn't it? That commercially it's not as good with the you are dealing with. Well, every club's deals different. Yeah, and every club's deals different, but there's a few legacy deals there. Obviously with some of those clubs. So we mentioned Locky Whitfield, Harry Himmelberg now, Jason McCartney saying they will keep and they're in the market for a rock. So Tim English, they were all chips in on him. As Jason McCartney said on trade radio this morning, the dog shut that one down super quick, which they could understand. Could they turn to a role in Marshall? Would role in Marshall have an apatot to get north of the border and go out and play
at GWS? Maybe, maybe not. We know he's had his heart set on for a period of time. Josh Gabblett reporting here, he go Garcia, signing a new contract at the Saints. Yep. Was already contract until the end of next season, but has added another two years under that Hugo. So a three year commitment for him. Marabbon, which is good news for them. And you've got Nick Martin signing a new long term deal with the bombers until the end of 2031. Good player. Almost a forgotten man. Well, but not necessarily. Yeah, and they need him back out there badly. I mean, class even with him back in the mix. It's not going to shift the needle too far because I've got too much else to get sort of a bit out. Yeah, he adds a fair bit of class. And particularly without merit, I mean, Merritt's clearly their classiest player and best ball user. And he will slot into that type of a role quite nicely. Hopefully he can stay fit and healthy. Yep. Merritt Departs. Clearly they're trying to get Jack Bowes in the door as well. Essenden, Viny, they're trying to tempt over as well. So there was busy as they possibly can be. I think yes, and while being a struggling club, they've been linked to a few other names.
And there's a bit of tie-kick going on there, but trying to convince players to get there is understandably tough. The moment you just got to keep nailing, just got to keep nailing that draft. Texts coming through Barry. The Blues will add Carol. I'll come back from injury. I think Barry means. Amarty, O'Fourle, come back from injury and Cody Walker, they will do better than D's. So what happened with the Amarty scenario? The finances have come off a fair bit there in that deal. I'm not sure the finances were ever what was initially reported. We know. No, I reported. There's a big gap between Count and Sydney and there was. But that shouldn't be misconstrued as the Count and the Pay and the World Four in the contract is about $7,750,000 a year. So that would mean Sydney's was... AFL average. 5.50. Yep, they're about. I know. I'm not surprising, but you look at Sydney's playing list and the options they got inside of the world. 50 couldn't get back in. Well, they've always... They've always got back in at the business end. And they've always kind of carried one. Now, you know, you always love depth and quality depth, but not many clubs can afford
to carry because they had McLean in the VFL for a lot of the start of the year and he's an AFL player. Definitely an AFL player. So, and so is Amarty for that matter. So, you know, it's probably not feasible to carry one of those guys who's a genuine every week AFL player in the VFL. So... Yep. They're never surprised they only offered him 5.50. And they made their choice and they're happy to part ways if that's the case. So, one of these I'd imagine they got a lot of money tied up in their agro. Yeah, clearly. To keep those guys. And it was Joel's free agency year. So, this was always going to be the biggest contract he was going to try to secure. It's the temptation show. Well, I think it's a great... I think it's a great boy for Carlton at that number. Yeah. Because, again, you can go through the list of free agents and what they were grabbed and knabbed for. That... So many clubs are willing to pay 100, 200,000 a year more because they are a free agent. And there's no trade needed and there's nothing that they need to give back in return.
So, the value on those plays is a lot higher because of that. So, I think if you're able to bring him in on that 7.50 mark, even if it is 800,000, that's entirely reasonable for a player who... Now, he needs to stay on the park and he's been injured from time to time. But he's two goals a game, pretty much most weeks. He's an accurate set shot for goal. Haram Akai did not kick enough goals for Marnie Shear despite the fact that you're more on it when I say he played some good footy in the back of the... Needs support. He's good to keep more goals. He's paid a million dollars. He needs to keep more goals. It's as simple as that. But Amari there as well will attract attention and hopefully, kick his two goals a week on average. Indeed. And that's text in down in Hobart. Take it to the bank, Bobby Hill, to the devils. One year in the VFL system then back on the big stage. I wouldn't either. You wouldn't be taking a chance. On that with the history this year with the kids at the club. And as a lot of people have pointed out here, now clubs have got the category B, rookie
lever they can pull. So maybe that makes it... Or increases the chances of Bobby Hill just jagging a spot on a list somewhere. But homework would need to be done there for sure. JJ thoughts on the cats and marshal with Edwards development. Hopefully a fit Conway. If you've not been saying that for a long time. Is there much need for marshal? That's rich in culture. No there is. Restanley's retired. Conway, you're basically taking off the table for the time being. Yeah, I mean, it's just tricky because marshal will demand to be the number one rock. Is it in terms of his performance? Not he's actually... He's not going to go there and say, I am the number one rockman. He promised it to me. But who's to say Edwards isn't another 20% better at the business end next year? And that's what he showed us this year was really, really good. Now, Luke Jackson destroyed him. Luke Jackson would have destroyed most players in that game as well. So if marshal goes there, they might have another headache, a similar headache at the end of next year when marshal is still a number one rockman.
But Edwards is exploding as a player as well. You're not going to be able to convince one to be a backup. They don't have any backup because Stanley's gone and Conway's often injured. So they've got a... Yeah, they've got a funny old issue there in terms of... If they get both, they're going to probably have to play one in the VFL. And that'll upset that one. Well, indeed, competition for sports is good though. Now, not so much trade bell related, but the Devils last night had their own draft style gala event where they announced the signings of their eight, 17-year-olds. And some exciting prospects amongst them. Our chat with Todd Patterson, the list boss at the Devils Up and Podcast. We had him on trade radio earlier today, Kane and myself. All right, Vanguard, this September joined the Vanguard's Super September Challenge. Take a closer look at your super. Nelly at a time, J.J. Will, take a final break and we'll come back and wrap up and tidy up right after this.
