The Miami Dolphins will have their hands full once again in Week 4 as, for the fourth consecutive week, they take on an unbeaten opponent. This time, they head to Minneapolis to take on the Vikings.
Kevin O'Connell's team has had a herky-jerky start to the season, losing starting QB Kyler Murray to a concussion early in Week 1 which caused him to miss Week 2 as well. Then, when Murray returned in Week 3, star wide receiver Justin Jefferson injured his ankle. While the Vikings' offense is something of an unknown quantity due to the injuries, their defense has been every bit as tenacious as the league has come to expect, with Defensive Coordinator and former Miami Dolphins Head Coach Brian Flores sending a blitz on nearly 70% of defensive snaps.
The Dolphins meanwhile are coming off their best showing of the young season, holding the Kansas City Chiefs to within a single score until late in their Week 3 matchup. Miami has injury woes of their own, having lost star running back De'Von Achane to season-ending ACL injury, but they showed a firy spirit and will hope that the lessons learned thus far can lead the way to a surprising result on the road in Week 4.

We're going to be commenting live watching live having lots of fun and we invite you to join us patreon.com slash Dolphins talk brain. It's a Brian Flores reunion game for the Miami Dolphins. They get together with their old head coach. They travel to Minnesota where they are going to take on for the fourth consecutive week and unbeaten opponent the three and a Minnesota Vikings. Brain, I think this game is a little bit more difficult to make heads or tails of just in terms of the fact that we don't know what to expect out of the Vikings offense. Justin Jefferson is trending towards being a game time decision. If you had to guess right now, you'd guess it's probably trending towards him not going
on Sunday considering that he was a DNP on both Wednesday and Thursday this week. But then again, he's the star player. They want to take care of him. He probably doesn't need to practice to be in on the action. But who knows what we're going to see there. But either way, they also we have not yet seen this is going to be the fourth game of the season. And we have not gotten a full game of Kyler Murray at quarterback and Justin Jefferson at receiver because you had Murray go down with the concussion early in their first game. He missed the second game and early in game three Jefferson goes down with an ankle. And so, you know, the offense is a little bit of a mystery for the Minnesota Vikings. But what is less of a mystery is the defense that they are bringing to the table. Brian Flores and aggressive tenacious defense. Blitzing at an absurd 71% right now of defensive snaps. Brain, this is going to be a tough matchup. And I don't know where where do we start in this one in terms of how the dolphins want to match up.
I think, I mean, to me, the clearest place and where we have the most information is the dolphins offense versus the Vikings defense, although we also have the question now, what are the dolphins do without Devon H. Yeah. And look, the thing is we know that the dolphins have struggled on the edge. They've struggled to protect the passer, to protect the quarterback. We know that Brian Flores has an aggressive defense that's going to attack the quarterback that's going to Blitz. We know that the Vikings have a lead high sack percentage of over 10%. And so that tells me that, and then we also have, it looks like Caleb Douglas is probably not going to play this week again because he was a DNP Wednesday and Thursday at practice.
And so I would think that that would only encourage Brian Flores in the Minnesota defense to be that much more aggressive against Malik Willis. That means you better have a game plan to mitigate some of these pressures, whether that's extra guys on the offensive line, whether that's quick hitters, screens, draws, things that are going to hard counts that are going to keep them off balance. But we don't really know. We haven't seen a lot of hard counts from Malik Willis. We really haven't even seen a ton of the screen game. If they do have that in their repertoire, this would be a good week to bring that out. But I'd also think that Minnesota as a team that Blitz is so much would probably, you know, be ready for that as the as the counter. So I think the counter to this is you're going to get a lot of man coverage.
You're going to get some zero blitzes. And so that means you're going to have opportunities to throw the ball down field. Can you hit on those opportunities? It's a shame that it looks like Caleb Douglas isn't going to play because I think he would be our best weapon for that. We saw them have several attempts at throwing the ball down the field in the second half. A couple of them were successful. You know, Malik Willis had that long past a Greg Dullsich in the second half last week. I'll be it. It wasn't pretty. It was, you know, double coverage. And it was just Greg Dullsich making a great play on the ball. It wasn't like it was some great throw or some great route. It was basically just a 50 50 ball or like a 33% ball since it was since it was two on one. And so that's the big question to me in this game is can the dolphins hit some explosives
to counter Minnesota's aggression to make them back off? And then also can you keep them off balance? Can you keep can you run the ball successfully on early downs so that you're not in these obvious passing downs where they're just going to tee off and they're going to go right at Austin Jackson, who has had his hands full every time. You've had an obvious passing down. The opposing team is saying, well, let's put our best pass pressure right up against Austin Jackson. Let's go right after him and it's a busted play. So knowing all of that, do you do you put more, you know, do you play more to tight ends? Do you put Wilkes Merrick next to Austin Jackson? You know, specifically on those obvious passing downs and say, well, we're going to load we're going to load up that side to help Austin Jackson. You move the pocket away from that side on those plays. Those are things that you can do to mitigate it. This is just a really good defense that you're going to go up against and the dolphins so far
in three games have scored on average of 12 points a game and have not scored more than 13 points in a game. So kind of hard to see them scoring above their average going up against the best defense clearly that they've gone up against so far this season and kind of hard to win football games when you can't score more than 13 points. It's going to be a struggle. I think it is going to be a struggle for them offensively and whether they're able to counter with the quick passes and finding their huts on the full bliss on those on those big blitzes that for us ascending. Can they find the right guy to dump it off? Can they get I mean, another question is, are they going to bring in, you know, that extra tight end? I mean, thus far through three games, the dolphins have only played out of like 12 personnel, like 6% of the snaps that they've done. So they really have not spent a lot of time bringing in that extra tight end to block and getting will I mean, Kazmeric is probably the guy that you're going to call upon to be that guy, you know, to help out on the side with Austin Jackson.
Are they going to bring him in? Are they going to make that happen? We're going to see that is one of many questions that we have about how the dolphins offense is going to work and speaking of questions, a new football season brings some big questions like who makes a playoffs, who wins their division, who takes home the title, Koushi, America's number one prediction market platform lets you trade those predictions in a live market. Currently speaking of live markets, the Miami dolphins are at a trading at 17% to beat the Minnesota Vikings, which is amazing because that's their highest percentage thus far this season. And that 17% means that a $100 trade would pay out $588 if they are victorious. On Koushi, you're trading against peers in a live market, meaning there's no house. And as the probability changes, you can buy in and out of your position. Trade the draft picked the game and more on Koushi, download Koushi, use code dolphins talk to get $25 when you trade $25.

Rain, let's go to the other side of the ball here. Minnesota's offense. Interesting. Fits and starts. We were hoping to see it take big strides forward with Kyler Murray, but like we said, they haven't really had a whole lot of Kyler Murray. They got Kyler Murray back in week three, but then they lost their number one receiver. I think they're, I think they've struggled. They may be the most yards they've passed for in a game. This is like 150 yards. Like they have not really been effective through the air, but they have been effective running the ball on the ground with Aaron Jones. Jones is a little banged up, but does look like he is trending towards playing this
week. Yeah, he was a limited participant on Wednesday and was basically off the report on Thursday. So he's going to be good to go. No Jordan Mason. Of course, it was the other threat for them, but this offense, I think there is a, here's here's what I'll say. If there was ever an opportunity for this dolphins defense to really step up and show us something through the first three weeks of the season, this is, this is kind of that moment. If they can continue to give this Vikings offense, you know, fits and starts. But on the other side of the coin, the Miami dolphins defense might be exactly what the doctor ordered for this Minnesota offense. Yeah, well, I think the dolphins defense showed signs of life last week. They showed improvement. I will say this, the dolphins on the strength of their last two games now sit. I think it's like top five in the league right now in opponents yards per rush.
They're giving up three and a half yards per rush. And so the run defense and remember that's after being shredded in week one. So the dolphins the last two weeks against Christian McCaffrey and against Kenneth Walker Jr. or Kenneth Walker, the third have cleaned up the run defense. And so that's become the foundation of what they do defensively. And now you're going up against the team that if Justin Jefferson doesn't play has Kyler Murray at quarterback and he's throwing to, you know, Jordan Addison and Joanne Jennings TJ Hock and Senate tight end Aaron Jones can do some things out of the backfield. But there's not that real explosive element of a, of a, you know, of a pass catcher there. And so this is an opportunity, I think, for the dolphins to continue what they've done the last two weeks in loading up to stop the run and force the opposing team to beat you
through the air. Continue to try to get things tighter on the back end. And the fact that you're not going up against Brock Purtie and you're not going up against Pat Mahomes and you're potentially not having to face Justin Jefferson. This might not be such a bad matchup for the dolphins defense. So I'm curious to see I think this is an opportunity for the dolphins defense to play their best game of the year. I think there's an opportunity to get after the quarterback and to force some mistakes. You know, maybe this is an opportunity to blitz a little bit more because I still just don't trust that the dolphins can consistently get pressure with four. Chop Robinson started to assert himself in the second half of that Kansas City game. Does he, does he assert himself for four quarters in this game? And does that all of a sudden make a, make an impact in this football game?
I think there are areas here where the dolphins can potentially hang in this football game and it starts with their defense. If they're deep like because it's going to be a struggle on the other side of the ball going up against Brian Flores. Can the dolphins defense keep them in this game and put them into a situation where potentially the dolphins aren't playing from behind in a football game? Can the dolphins get a lead in this football game? I think there's an opportunity here. Can you force a turnover? Can you make a big play? Can you get onto the, you know, can you get a short field for your offense because you're going up against an offense that's not that good. And then that's how you get points. Can the defense score points? Can the special teams, you know, make something happen to get it? Can you get a non offensive score or a non offensive play that puts you in position
to score so that your offense doesn't have to do all the work and doesn't have to go on a 91 yard touchdown drive? I think the defense has an opportunity in this matchup to give Miami a chance. They're going to need it. I think that I think the path to a dolphins victory in this game involves that defense getting on the scoreboard. Frankly, I mean, it's, it doesn't. I mean, no, I think it does. I think if they're going to win this game, they're going to need that defense to score some points because I just have my, I have significant doubts about this. Listen, this offense, the best it's done so far score 13 points. And now it's going up against just an absolutely evil defense just in terms of the way that Brian Flores mixes up the looks that he's going to show you the way that he disguises his blitz. It's not like you're just going to look at the same thing. It's the same thing over and over and over again. He's going to mix up those looks and dolphins are going to have a really hard time moving
the ball down the field unless they somehow managed to catch lightning in a bottle. I don't know about you, but I get pretty excited when football season rolls around. before we dive into some hot takes? Yeah, I just want to say special teams. Because if we're predicting this to be potentially a low scoring game, a close game, particularly early on, then part of that is winning the field position battle. And so that means that not necessarily do you need to score points for an offensive drive to be a success. Can you flip the field? Can you move the sticks a little bit? Can you put the, and then can your special teams pin the other team back inside the 20 or particularly inside the 10 and make Minnesota an offense that has struggled, have to go a long way. And if the defense can hold, that's another way to give yourself a shorter field so that you don't need to go 50, 60 yards to get into scoring position.
Maybe you could start this, you could start your drives around midfield and then you only need to go like 15, 20, maybe 25 yards for Riley Patterson or for Jeff Halfley to feel comfortable in Riley Patterson kicking a field goal to ultimately be in scoring position. So I think it's about complimentary football. Defense has to put the, has to give the special teams opportunities and give the offense opportunities. Special teams needs to put the opposing team in a rough spot and also give the dolphins good field position. It's about playing complimentary football. It is about playing complimentary football, something that this team has traditionally struggled to do. Well, should we turn our attention to some hot takes here, Brian? You ready? Absolutely. All right. So here's the question, what is your hashtag one hot take for dolphins at Vikings this Sunday? That is the question. We posed it to the people on social media.
We posed it on the dolphins talk extra discord and here are some of the responses that we got. Be hard 44 says Rod Regas with 10 tackles. Intense farmers says Brian Flores runs a play where he drops every D line man into coverage and still somehow gets a sack. That's a great take from intense farmer. Martini Jack says we get shut out. Timbo says chop gets two sacks. Martini Jack follows that up by saying sacks of what? Question mark. Mr. McDolphin says Andrew van Ginkgo pick six hashtag F Chris Greer. And then fish pilots is the dolphins defense. Finally gets a sack probably. He says side note, do we actually have to believe our hot takes question mark on June Able says the dolphins offense gives up no sacks for the second week in a row. Finsanity says Miami wins the turnover battle to to nothing
and is in position to win the game in the fourth quarter. That would be exciting and that would be the path. Misha Rones says Kevin Coleman gets five times his career receiving yards in one game. Brain, do you happen to know without looking it up? How many receiving yards Kevin Coleman has this season so far? I think he's got like one catch in the last game. And I think it was a short one. What do you get like like three yards? He has one reception for three yards. So the suggestion here is that he's going to get 15 yards receiving hot scorch it. And this is scorching hot take a speaking of a take that's not necessarily scorching out Craig 23 Vikings defense feasts on Miami's lackluster offense. And Irish princess says the dolphins just effort all up in the second half. We got a couple responses on blue sky as well.
Subscatter says Miami offense will only score two touchdowns and both will be for Minnesota. John says flow gives the dolphins back one of the losses he should have given them in 2019. And Nova Finn fan says the game will eventually end and there will be 207 days until the next draft. Not exactly a hot take, but it is a take and we appreciate it. And finally we got heard from part over on Twitter. He said Austin Jackson repels AVG for 60 minutes. How about that? That is a hot take. Brain, what you got? You want to go first? Yes, I will go first. Malik Washington rushing touchdown. All right. Will has Merrick. Oh boy. Receiving touchdown gets called back by penalty. Oh, come on. You're you're take your take dropped by like 20 degrees when you when you added in that second detail.
Typically, when you add in a problem is that I had that as my take and I like want to believe that as my take. But then my prediction is going to give away that I don't believe that to be my take. That's unbelievable. What a what a take that is. It's funny because typically the more specific you get with a take, like the hotter it is. But like somehow adding in the touchdown called back by penalty actually makes it hotter. I mean, less hot touchdowns called back by penalty this year. Yeah, it makes it makes it less less less hot is what I meant to say. Anyway, all right, Brain, I think it's time to make some predictions. What do you got dolphins, Vikings, Sunday, 430? We're going to be watching live with the dolphins talk extra family. What's going to happen in this game? What's your prediction? Look, if you're going to go on to call she and get $25 when you trade $25.
By using the promo code dolphins talk, you need to go on there and trade the under of this game. Because this is going to be a low scoring football game. I don't have a lot of faith in the Miami dolphins defense. But if there's no Justin Jefferson in this game, I liked what I saw as far as the growth from this group last week. And I think they can bring that continue to move forward and make more improvement against a weaker opponent as far as Minnesota's offense is concerned. And so I think this is going to be a close, low scoring game for at least half of the game, if not three quarters of the game. But I just really struggle to find confidence in the dolphins offense being able to move the ball
and put up points against this Minnesota defense. And eventually Minnesota will get something going. It could be on the backs of a turnover. It could just be a drive and it could be like a turnover that ultimately like breaks the back of the dolphins and takes this from being a close game to then boat race time. But I think the dolphins will have opportunities and I think this will be a close game for the majority. And eventually Minnesota will pull away because the dolphins just won't be able to do anything on offense. I wouldn't be surprised if the score was like six three at half time, Minnesota. And Miami's going into half time down by three points. But I don't think Miami's scoring more than three points or much more than three points. Give me Minnesota to win this game 20 to three. Wow. You know what the what the overrunder is on this game right now? I think it opened at like 48 or 43 and a half and it's down to like 38 and a half.
Yes. 38 pound in the under. I don't think that under could go low enough for me to not pick it. On Calgary, the dolphins are currently trading 49% to go over 13 and a half points. The Vikings are trading at 50% to go over 24 and a half points. It's all very. So it's like 37 and a half is the overrunder. And the 38 and a half is the total right now. So wow. Did you guys hear that? My wife just needs from the other side of my house. And I heard it in the studio. It was an earthquake. That was fantastic. That was tremendous work by my wife. All right. Well, I think that's going to wrap. Oh, I got a side got to give my prediction. You didn't give a pick. You don't get off that. OK, I will give a pick before I'm so excited to get over to the bonus segment that we're going to do on dolphins talk extra tonight that I didn't even give my pick.
Listen, I can't. I just don't see it for the dolphins in this game. My gut tells me that the dolphins, as I said earlier, I sort of speculated that maybe this is the chance for the dolphins defense to come up and make a big stop. But also it's a very good possibility that the dolphins defense is the cure for where they else the Minnesota Vikings. And I think that is more than likely to end up being what the case is on Sunday. So I think it's going to be a fairly lopsided Minnesota win. I think it's going to be something like 27 to three Minnesota. Still taking the under Jordan Murray watching lives as 2017 fins off of pick six. Idleman 12 says Vikings 24 dolphins 10 T Kubler 9561 says Vikings 26 dolphins 13. He also says Van Gink pick six. He has a hot take there.
And then we got a hot take from Jordan Murray as well says Michael taff pick six for the win. So there it is. That is that's good stuff. Good stuff from all the people in the chat here.
