The following is a production of DallasCabboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys football club. Cowboys, get them all. Yeah! No cowboys! This is Girls Talk Boys Talk, streaming live on DallasCabboys.com and the official Dallas Cowboys app. Now your host, Brianna Aldrich.
Welcome in to Girls Talk Boys Talk, boys talk, geez. Into SBC studios, we missed you for a not-so victory Tuesday, but that is okay, Brianna Aldrich, Chrissy Skills. Candice Lam, Aisha Morrison, and Miss Kelsey Jarrett on in my year right now. Welcome. This is truly Girls Talk. Yeah. Yeah, Kelsey joins us because last Thursday, we had a final segment where we said, Chris Beam, producer, and Paul. Chris or Paul would do the Samba on Tuesday at the next show if the Cowboys did certain things to win the game. They did not. So Chris and Paul are like, yeah, no Samba today. So Kelsey, we're lucky to have you. Thank you for doing this for us. It's really high, dude. Because they... Dang, I was hoping they would go have to do everything. Because they... A lot of it, we hit on the list. I'm sad, Shoke, because I was traveling. Dang. Yeah. I would have been a little more pumped in that outdoor press box.
That was very hot. It was very... Let's just say it was humid. Oh, yeah, humid in Brazil on Rio. It was a different kind of experience. I personally just got back last night. So I've caught the very end of last night's game, unfortunately. But, Christie, let's start with you because we got to make this awesome trip. Didn't end awesome for the Cowboys. But just your overall thoughts of the atmosphere. And I think even just leading up into the game because we got to spend... Yeah, I think the NFL got exactly what they wanted. It was a fantastic atmosphere. So many Cowboys fans there. Over 80% of the folks who were at the game ticketing, they can track ticket sales. And it was over 80% local folks there in Brazil. So yes, were there Cowboys fans that traveled down? Absolutely. And we appreciate that so much. Got to talk with some of them over the weekend. Kudos to the Ravens, to the flock. A lot of them came down from the United States
to see the Ravens play. And it was just a wonderful atmosphere. Great halftime show. The league got a fantastic game that went down literally to the final second. So overall, for the experience, even though it was a business trip for the Cowboys and unlike Bri and other media members, the rest of us Cowboys staff, we were remanded to the team hotel. We did not... I think we're the only people who have been to Rio De Janeiro who have not seen Christ the Redeemer, nor Copa Cabana Beach. Yeah. But it was still a wonderful experience and get used to it because there are going to be more and more international games in the future. It doesn't necessarily mean that the Cowboys are going to be in Brazil every other year or every year, that kind of thing because our marketing agreement is actually the licensing through the league is actually for Mexico. But there are going to be a lot more international games coming up. And I did ask the commissioner because I did get to talk to Commissioner Gadell Pregame
as well as Jerry Jones as part of our Cowboys radio pregame interviews. And I asked him specifically if in the future, it will be where there, unlike week three, where it was a business trip and the teams were in and out and we weren't there four or five days and players weren't taking part in community events or doing marketing things around like the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders were during the week. And will there be by weeks in and out of international games in the future? And basically said, well, you know, it just kind of depends on how each team wants to approach that. But I hope that in the future, it will be more middle of the season or later in the season where we have a by week before or after and can take advantage of these opportunities to play these international games by doing more the week into the game. Yeah, it's an experience for sure. And I know for myself, I'm like, oh, I'm so tired. I can't imagine playing a full football game, landing in Rio, roughly 830 Rio time in the morning, being on the field by 3 p.m.
You know, and they have a job to do. They still have to answer, you know, the media and the questions. And they were so, I thought it was so awesome. I don't know if you guys had a chance to listen to Dax Press, Dax Press got initial interview. But when Cowboys media went first and then they moved it to the local Brazilian networks and oh my goodness, it was just so like awesome. Cause they're asking, like, can you explain like the game of football? Like they are so genuinely interested in this American football game. And they'll tell, like everybody I spoke to who I could find that spoke English was very like, hey, like, I know soccer. I grew up watching soccer. I can tell you like one thing about it. And there was like kind of some jokes on the broadcast that I saw because there was all types of jerseys. I saw a lot of your Seattle. Yeah, it's just like in London. It's, it's a, but you know what? But there are a lot of American soccer fans or casual fans who will buy a English premier league jersey because they think it looks cool.
Yeah, that's they like the colors. It was this is exactly what happened in my favorite park. I don't know if you noticed, but I was like, man, this feels like a Cowboys home game. And then when the Cowboys want to start to go towards the end towards the Ravenside, and it's had to hold them. And then you heard the loudest defense. I'm like, wait a minute. You guys were Cowboys fans last half. Yeah, and the people they're like, yeah, that's kind of how it goes. They're a lot of Baltimore fans. Yeah, I tell you the loudest innovation though. Remember this was a Cowboys home game, which meant not only did you have the cheerleaders, but they did all their normal routines, including Thunderstruck pregame. Yeah. So when they first came out and then at the end, when they do the jump split, I mean the crap, it was absolutely electric. One thing Jerry Jones said in the pregame show was that Netflix, and of course there's the popularity of America's Sweetheart, Stalas Cowboys cheerleaders on Netflix. We've already had three seasons. But the United States is first in terms of largest market for Netflix. The second largest is Brazil.
And so so many people. In fact, one of the players, soccer players for Flemengo that we were talking to at the Cowboys practice on Friday afternoon at the Flemengo facility, Leo Ortiz. He and his wife watch the show. They recognize me as the bus lady from the America Sweetheart show. So yeah, they but the fans were really into it and made for a great atmosphere. Yeah, they got their money's worth by the show that the Cowboys and Ravens put on a Sunday night. I kind of want to just start off with the newer news before we get into the game with the injuries. Oh my goodness. It was starting to get real. I looked at Nick Harris and Joel Huy and I said, could you guys play DB possibly because it's getting real thing? Somebody's getting real thin out there. But I know, Christie, if you want to with Jonathan Bullard, Jalen Thompson, Savon Revel. I know we'll hear from Shot and Heimer later today at Forbes with the possibly more, but I know for sure sounds like according to Jerry's interview this morning with 105 through the fan that he's going to be missing some time. Jalen Thompson also.
Yeah, with the hamstring and he's been a long time in the blue medical tent. I mean, several minutes in there before he, you know, very slowly, but under his own power made his way to the Cowboys locker room. But, you know, the Cowboys are down three of their top four safeties and that's if you consider Caleb Downs a safety. I know he's listed as that, but really he's playing your nickel corner, but decimated in the secondary. And of course they had lost Kobe Durant the week before. And then Revel, it's knee and ankle, but I think the ankle is probably the one that's more serious. So as you say, we'll hear more from Shotty, but, you know, now you're down at the end of the game. At when Revel first went out, a mere speed did one defense of series, but then after that it was Kaylyn Carson. So, and then I should also note that that final play that was to the right side, the incompletion to George Pickens. Like the play that play before Terrent Steele came out of the
game. And so, Broderick Jones who had done some like on special teams, but he was playing right tackle on that final play. And when that kind of had to get rid of it kind of quick and way, you know, purposefully over through George Pickens. So, we'll find more about, find out more about Terrent Steele. But, yeah, the second area is a particular problem. And then Bollard didn't finish the game, but we'll get an update on him and how that's going to affect the defensive tackle rotation later in the week. A lot to pick apart in this game, but I guess since we're talking about the secondary IESHA, just you're watching the broadcast at home, you're seeing these guys go down. How did you think the, let's start with the second area? How did you think they held up for what they had? Well, I think it obviously gets difficult when you have guys kind of rotating in and out because there was those two drives where the Ravens just kind of went, like, went down feels so quickly. I think a lot of that was because those guys are getting subbed out, gentlemen are like banged up and they're having
to stop and figure things out. And obviously you did have the penalties, but it's because that guy's just getting inserted in here so quickly. Like, there's rhythm to the game. And so, as far as the secondary goes, I, when you have guys in and out like this and when you have guys down the Dept Chart and you're trying to, you're already implementing a new system. And then you bring in guys that are, again, down the Dept Chart for a reason. And that's just how this is. And you lose, you lose things during the game and then to make up for what you're trying to already do schematically, it was just, it was a lot of confusion guys like same thing, a lot of space for the Ravens to operate, a lot of confusion and guys are tired because they are playing extended snaps because you are losing guys like every few seconds. So for me, I think they held up in spaces the best they could. I mean, poor ready steward. I know people are going to be dragging him, but that play that they had was like, what is second snap of the game or something? He don't even, you know what I'm saying? Like, and he's been on the practice squad.
He had just been pulled up from the practice. Yeah, he's been on the practice squad. He's on the bench. Probably not warm. You know, or they might, they might have been telling those guys to get ready or whatever, but he gets out. He gets out there. I don't think it's excusable that they were playing prevent in the way that they were doing anyway and just the way that they were doing stuff. But I just feel like you still put, I just think it puts everyone in a bad spot to some degree. So I don't know. They're going to have to move some things around and see if they can find guys like better spots for certain guys. Well, what you have, and then see what you can do from there. Well, they, you know, what, what is Christian Parker's scheme predicated on? A lot of it is on disguise and things like that. And, you know, maybe just do less, you know, just kind of, you know, does it have to be all this trickeration and all the stuff where communication is so important? Can you play a little more simply, you know, cover two, just kind of thing and not be so complicated when you've got so many guys who have less experience and haven't
worked together a lot in terms of, you know, getting that communication down. So that may just be have to have to be something they experiment with because at this point, you don't have the luxury, the luxury is reinforcements that you want. And to come in, so you have to work with what you have or possibly what they can get. I mean, but my. Not just hey, I don't care. We can talk about the secondary all day. Yeah. 1,000, 2, 1000, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4. Yeah, balls out. Yeah. Ravens, I mean, Mark Andrews is wide open. Like there's just, there's only so much they can also do too. And I'm sure we'll get to that because the past rush was something that hurt your secondary as well. Yeah. And I was bringing that as actually literally where I'm leading into only because. Kenny Clark, especially with Quintin Williams, I feel like there's been a lot of talk about them and their performance mostly Quintin.
How the bar is all high, right? You just pay this man how much money? Yeah. The bar is very high and with the expectations. Although the pro I don't know what's going on still with the past rush, but I felt that I don't know how you lays. But I felt like overall them to this was their best game that we've seen this season. Quintin. Quintin. Oh, Quintin's for sure. He the way he was chasing Lamar out of balance. I'm like that. And he's a big guy. You guys have seen him a little bit, but I'm not just in, you know, with, but hey, the way he was, he was working hard. He was playing hard. So I thought this was a really good game for both of them, but who impressed me the most was Quintin. I mean, absolutely that speed that he had going towards the sideline because that we were scared of Lamar running the ball. And he was absolutely headed towards the edge of the keep running and Quintin got him a couple of times. Which hated still hated that's scary for me because if he is chasing down somebody. Yeah. I mean, you don't have reinforcement. And me and some Nelson. But I will do we.
But I will say. As far as the interior deepness of line earlier in that game to your point, you saw knockback. You definitely saw them put in a dent early into the Ravens. Offensive line and in affecting Derek Henry before he was able to really know for those things to really open up in their run game. They just again, we talked about it, muddied it up. And I do feel like they were also in a more of attacking type mindset. I would say for the game like this game. And talking to Quintin in the locker room is causing him to have to be patient and have to, you know, really work his timing and stuff. But in this game, I think there were opportunities for him to just get up field and to be, you know, the one on one bruiser that he is. Yeah, Tito had a good game. Yes. Yes. I agree with that as well. Chrissy help me out. They see you on that little one because we're on the bus and we're talking about the Cowboys being able to stop their run right. And it felt like they were doing good things out there.
We saw they had big plays on the absolutely. But I'm looking at the stats and when you give up almost 200 yards on the ground, it's kind of hard to say you did well. And then I'm looking at 29 yards for Derek Henry as long as run 21 for Lamar. That was his first run of the game. And I was like, oh, no. Yeah, we go. But it was, it's hard to just gauge because they had so much good moments. And I think it was obviously towards that first half, especially when they first came out like, I was like, oh, they're for real. Everybody was hyped. Yes. We're like, we are playing complimentary football in Rio right now. But Chrissy, what are you? What are you doing? Yeah, it felt the run defense. I think that this one, the stats don't reflect that it was a much better effort against the run this week. Yeah, sometimes the numbers won't say lie, but they kind of shade one wear the other. And the main thing, they got those stops on fourth down. And that one laid in the game. Oh my gosh. That was huge in the ovation from.
I know. I know. You could really feel it. You could really feel it. But they did. And what Ayesha said about muddying up for Derek Henry and not letting what what did Shoddy talk about last week? And what the players talked about is don't let him, you know, get back there. Don't let him don't let him plant that foot and get going forward. And that's what they did. Yeah. Yeah. At that point. Oh, well, as far as the run stops, I thought those were awesome. A part of next year and he was a dare canary was run stuff with seven times for no game or attack him. Tackle for lost. That's tied for the most he's had. He's ever been stuffed in NFL game. And to me then what Javante Williamson, I know we're going to talk more about the Cowboys offense and what they did right in the run game. I it was freaky Friday. They freaky Friday. We we should have freaky Friday them. Christie, I'm telling you, y'all, she also lucky. Y'all lucky because y'all would have been sobbing. I said that the run game was going to I said I think the run game is going to get going
this game and it was there were spots, but again, this consistency. Yeah. It was Javante who in the off Cowboys offensive line that was moving and getting the yards after contacting everything moving forward. And dare a canary, I'm not saying they didn't have that it was completely shutting them down, but but it was freaky Friday. I'm telling you. Yeah. It was in the last when it comes to Henry, but we're going to get more into this game and get a little more on the Cowboys offense. We're going to take our first break here on Girl's Talk Boys. All right. So before we took our first break, we started to get in some excitement because the Cowboys run game. It's there. It is alive. We three proved that they can run the ball. And we had a different running back and that makes two. That was I thought it's yeah, from Goodson. Yeah, I talked to Wilma Clay before the game down on the field and said, said why? Okay. Yeah, why Goodson instead of De Mercato who played the first two games and said that Goodson just juice. Give us a little juice, right? So with the speed and some home run hit ability there. So that's and IE. And I had talked with with him in the locker room the prior week and knew about all of his experience playing on special teams. So so that's the reason. But the Cowboys all they had was Javante Williams and then Goodson instead of De Mercato and then Hunter Lipkey. But it was more than enough to really get the ground game going Sunday.
Yeah. Other positives from the offense. IE. Is that kind of one of your thoughts? I know you spoke to the Titans, the locker room recently, so what did you see from Fergan at my favorite ribbon? Yeah, I mean, well I think the biggest positive I want to point out is CD lamb. Man, he is playing some phenomenal football. And just his presence, I mean, some of the catches he made just with the decisions that people are making in regards to pickins. He has to capitalize when he has those opportunities and he's been doing that. And I want to make sure we talk about him because he, he flipped a lot of how that gang felt in spots. As you talk about the Titans, Bree, I thought that getting to see Breven Span Ford out in space, we got to see him again in the blocking game. Some of the stuff he did, I mean, some of the stuff he, I like a blocker that wants to be imposing, and he's imposing, you're gonna remember, there are DBs on the Ravens that are like, I'm gonna remember this 89 guy, like they're gonna be looking out for him.
So just his physicality and his presence, I think makes a huge difference for this offense, and in the run game and how he's used. And as far as Jake Ferguson, obviously, he had to touch down, put the ball on the ground a couple times. I don't even, Christie, y'all, was that a catch? I went back and watched it about eight times, and I was like, it was given incomplete. That's given, it feels like, what did you feel feel like? I thought it should have been rolled incomplete. Okay. Okay, yeah, it felt incomplete, but Jake Ferguson, obviously, we gone Cowboys radio felt like he didn't complete the process of the catch. Yeah, before the ball came out. But yeah, you got some production from your tight ends. I thought the blocking from the tight ends was cleaner in this game in spots, which is why I thought the run game was able to get going, and take advantage of trying to get to the second level. So yeah, those are probably like my high points in this game in quarterback. Quarterback made place, I'm really good football, y'all. Yeah. Denny wanted to run, but he did. I don't, he got to. I don't say for about it. We got to get over it. He got to run.
I think this game was a lot more of the, although they, I think this game was a lot more closer to the dynamic duo of CD and George Pickens that the Dallas Cowboys fans have envisioned. George Pickens with seven catches, 82 yards, I feel like he was a lot more dominant this game, a lot more, he was better with his hands. There was one pass up the middle where he was double teamed and he kind of did a little celebration afterwards. But I was more so looking at, you know, earlier in the week, last week, we heard Shoddy say, I'm not worried about George, I don't have to tell him anything. And he's gonna, basically I got from that, he's gonna go make those adjustments himself and you saw that real time in the game, double teamed, he still came up with the ball and he had a really good game, I believe as well. Yeah, I think Pickens had his strong skin that we've seen also that he would have had more if penalties didn't was involved in something. Speaking of penalties. It was funny though.
You said, they went that, you said, you said that Marlon Humphrey and Pickens would be a funny matchup. But they actually went with Marlon a lot more with CD and that was funny because they were, baby, there was chirping, they was talking, there was, I mean, you ladies were there, there was some attitude from the players, like there was, yeah. No, it was, it was, it was spirited. Not just in the, not just in the, not just in the stands. Okay, well, I see Christy looking at her notes. Well, no, I just, I know it's just that what was, when thing I particularly enjoyed and I, you know, I wear headphones on the sidelines because it's radio broadcast and down on the sideline but I had my headphones kind of cocked in this game because I enjoyed listening to the PA announcer who was doing everything in Portuguese, of course, except for, so the only thing you could really understand were the, well, I speak Spanish, not perfectly, but another one will keep.
You're talking about similarities because I was like, well, here's the thing, it sounds a lot different than Spanish but there were 16 penalties in the game and so I quickly learned that Faltedezio Gata is penalty. Yeah, so they would, they kept saying it a lot. Well, they kept saying it a lot. Well, they kept saying it a lot. And then it would show up on the screen and then a Revisal, Revisal. I was thinking, a Fisal is like review, right? A Fisal's review. Okay, I like that. So, so just like when you go to a game here and they'll say, you know, first down or penalty or whatever, I'm, did, because I had no access to the television broadcast, did the, did the referee at any time like announce anything in Portuguese because sometimes they'll, you know, like they're playing in Germany, the first call they'll say like holding. And they were speaking, they was speaking English and speaking it a lot. Okay. They were speaking English. They were saying it a lot.
That was the first time I normally have the broadcast but because I watched the game on YouTube TV like most of us do, obviously you can't watch it out there and Nick Harris, the only person who's watching the game and I was like, how are you watching the game? He's like, I paid for something, I probably shouldn't have. It was like everybody else wasn't watching it. Just kidding. So I'm, I'm looking at him and his, the view was not great from up there. And the replay screen, I was, I don't know if it's because I'm short queen, but like there's two huge like bars right underneath. So even the replay is like, how was there stadium? So it seats 73, there were 72,790 something like that, just under 73,000 fans and I'm shocked that that, they could fit that many people in there. Okay. The stands are mostly covered. So it's kind of like old Texas stadium in terms of, you have the whole, you know, the field and the first several rows are exposed to the outdoors, but it, but it opened in 1950. And Tamara Kanaz, I mean, it's just, that's the place.
That's where, of course, Sao Paulo has, you know, big stadium as well. But the Rio Olympics, the summer Olympics that were there and what was that 2016? The opening and closing ceremonies were at this stadium where we were. So it's very historic and I will say that they did a wonderful job of on the outside and even inside the locker room and the tunnel as you walk out to the field, cowboys. And then the Ravens side, same things. The NFL did a great job with the signage, but just to, because girls rule, boys rule. There was one thing on the outside of the stadium that on one of the edges and it was a permanent, kind of not a billboard, but you know, top to bottom. And it was in recognition and it said, thank you, Queen, Obregato, Reina, thank you, Queen. And it was, it's a Marta who is the Brazilian soccer superstar.
She's arguably the greatest female soccer player in the history of the game. And I believe she recently retired. And it's like, it's got a giant picture of her. I mean, it's probably 90 feet tall. but I think it'll make for a good conversation here. Who has the most to blame for the heartbreak loss in Rio? Would you put it? Dack, Shoddy Shoulders or Defense. I shall start with you. Why are you starting with me? Ask Andy. You want to take it first? Sure. I'm trying to scare you. Because I'm going to go all three. There's enough blame to pass around. Well, that wasn't perfect, but almost. Yeah, he threw four, 276 yards. Yeah, you can't put everything on your quarterback. So I'm not going to fully place the blame on him. To me, honestly, it looked like the ball kind of slipped out of his hands. I know it was a purposeful throw away. But again, you can't put everything on deck. Shot and I, Murr. It's a be-breath for me. Dallas had opportunities near the goal line where touchdowns could have absolutely changed the game. There were questionable decisions there. We're a couple of times personally, I thought the ball should have been run instead of passed.
And I know there was a penalty there against schoolmaker that cost them five yards at the end of the game. But a game that closed, I feel like better coaching decisions could have been made. And then defensively, your defense was depleted. But that doesn't mean I excused the plays at the end of the game, because ultimately, you're all professionals. You're here at the professional level, whether you're a second, third, fourth, practice, or whatever. There's an expectation once you get on that field. And again, they're all the way out there in Rio. You don't run 10 yards backwards to on his A-flowers first. So I'm going to go all the way around three. Can I do that? Yeah, that's fair. It's fair. I ask you one question every time. That's fair. So you all are the typebreakers this time? For me, coming into the season, we talked about it here on Girl's Talk, because that I was looking at Brian Shidenhammers jumped from OC coming in for your head coach
to really being like, I'm the head coach. I run this dying. And really putting it together. And again, obviously implementing a new defense and everything matters. But baby, this offense is pretty much the same. This is the same offense. And I wanted to see just how he handled. There's a lot more pressure being a head coach in a sense. He has to handle the time and he's delegating things. The decisions on whether the challenge or not, whether the acceptor, not all these different things he has to deal with. This is a big transition for him. And I wanted to see how he handled it. And to his standards, as he spoke, he felt like a lot of the decisions he made were not conducive to the team, get in a win in a way he wanted. But to me, it was just the way that his decision-making was, it was so outside the realm to me of what you really got going on, especially defensively. I'm not one to say I'm a question all the X's and those,
because again, as you look into the film, there's execution, there's whatever. But I do think it's OK to say, you don't know that your defense is on his fifth safety. You know what I'm saying? And this goes into, again, if we do want to put it into Christian Parker, well, the head coach is the, he's in Dolby Hall. So if he wants to, as Christy mentioned, say, hey, maybe we got to simplify this down a little bit for what we have right now to get the best out of these shunners and whatever the case may be. He's allowed to do that. And we don't know if he has done that. We don't know if that's going to change, whatever the case may be. I'm just saying it felt like where do you have the pulse on what's happening right now? Because this feels like, to Christy's point, those stops were pivotal stops. And to me, if you have a pulse as a coach on your team, you understand I've got to give my best stuff right now. This is a moment. We could go put a fork in them right now, right now.
And it's like, I didn't feel like he had the, the, that, like that feeling of this is it right here. This is an important moment. I felt it from the quarterback. Yeah. Did you ladies sense it from the quarterback? So in the off, like, you could sense that the receivers and stuff, like they felt like we want to go win this game. Yeah, but it felt you did. Because dad gave them opportunities. I was looking out my green. I think I was just looking for him. I say all that to say, my gosh, today. Oh my god, today, that it's going to be Brian Shottenheimer for me because I expect it more from him decision making and then some of those spots and just kind of having a better pulse on where his team was as the game went on and what's happening, even even stopping the run game in spots. Like, come on. Like, and you're moving the ball. Yeah. Why are we passing right here? Yeah. Why are we passing right here? Why are we putting the ball in harm's way? Why are we stopping the car? Why are we throwing out of bounds? That's what I say. You guys are fine as success on the crowd.
Yeah. So why, what you want to do just you want to see the ball come out of the hands? I know it's pretty. But I just, yeah, don't be cute. Run the freaking ball. That's what I'm saying. I'm trying to, I'm saying, I'm saying, I'm saying. You've been imposing your will all game. So I hated the play calling at the end. Why? Because it didn't work. That's what's bad cowboy nation hated it. And Brian understands that better than anybody else. What's a good play call? I go back to Ernie Zampeasy in the 1990s. One that works. It didn't work. So he knows he's going to be second guest. But yeah. And the other thing is when you settle for the field goal and you know that there's seven seconds left on the clock, seven seconds is two plays in the NFL. Maybe three. It's not one. It's at least two. Right. Period. Period. Now, if you're going to have Brandon Aubrey kick off two twice earlier in the game, he kicked the ball out of bounds
and the Ravens gut. That's a penalty. At the 40. At the 40. You get it at the 40. You get it at the 40 if you kick it out of bounds. You give it. They got to go kick it too. But listen, Aubrey, Aubrey, you pay him a lot of money. Arguably the best in the game. You have to trust him that he will get the ball in the landing zone and not kick it out of bounds and take two or three seconds off the clock. And then guess what? There's one play. There's one play. And all you have to do is defend the end zone. So I didn't like that. And I didn't like the deep. Why? Because it didn't work. They know that. They're big boys. That's the NFL. Everybody understands that. But it was very frustrating to be at first and goal with the two and not hand the ball off. And Jack did run, but that was out in necessity on what the second downplay after the Schoonmaker penalty. And felt so bad for Luke Schoonmaker with that penalty.
But you just, oh, you can't. It was his birthday? Yesterday, Monday. You can empathize, but you gotta do your job. Yeah, birthday. So, Brey, who do you have it on? I partially agree with Candace on, you know, it takes a unit to lose a football game. I think any team sport that I've played, my coach has always said it, one play doesn't lose the game. It's a team effort, right? The problem I has with this team is the weakest link. And I'm sorry, but we know it's the defense. Yeah, for sure. We know that. So in that, I take them off the list. Now I'm looking at Dacking Chaudy. And it's unfair to put things on deck shoulders, but how many times have we said that is the way it is until this defense is able to show what they can do? And I hate it for deck because he played such an amazing game. And people are only going to remember that one play because in our eyes at home, one play makes, could have made the difference in the game, right?
But if he, what have got that throw, would have been amazing. Yeah, it would have been the best call in the history of the NFL. Brian Shidenheim is your head coach and what else? What else does he do? Calls place, period. He got two jobs. Wait a minute. I got to. And by the way, you have a game management coordinator on your staff. Yeah, sure. My problem is, this is week three. We just wrapped up two weeks. Shot and Heimer has said he has not liked his own play calling. That's my problem. Yeah. Well, I do appreciate his honesty. Yes. Well, he knows we're going to see it. But I, but the middle eight, too. Like that's what I'm saying. It's not just about the end of the game. It was how you handled even the end of the half, how you came out flat your first drive, getting the ball. Like I, I feel you. And I don't think that we should hold the, the offense is certain, to a certain standard and stuff. But y'all, they kept, they kept the Ravens off the field. Yeah. On third down. This is their best third down performance.
Three of, three of nine. The Ravens were old of two. There were spots. I know that the people are going to look at the orders and all this stuff in the defense, but I'm telling you, they stood up in portion of that game and they needed the offense to just come on with it, but you can't not do nothing for as long as they did in spots. I don't know. It was just a, I know the whole thing is so, like, yes, the international game and you want to win the 10 hour flight. Who wants to go 10 hours to get your butt kicked or not even get your bucket to play your heart out and, and losing that way. But also, this is a team that you don't beat. Ever. This is a team that you don't beat. And you came back close. And this could have been kind of that, you know, the narrative that Jack doesn't win close out because that's what this could have been a defining game. And they're, let me, I'm trying not to overstate it. It is week three. Oh, yeah. But there are times in the season and Chris Beam producing along with Kelsey today. Chris can back me up on this, that Ricky sees in 2016 for Jack and Zeke, going up to Pittsburgh,
getting that win on the road. That was a defining victory. I remember that. So there are some games in a season where you feel it, where you feel it. And man, coming out and winning that game the way they did with the key gold line stand, forth down, defense stepping up, imposing their world, being the physical team, and then the offense taking the ball down the field and having the winning score. They're down there too. It would have, oh my gosh, it would have been just such a different thing. And now, you know, you're going into a game in Houston. Who would have predicted that Houston would be 0 and 3 and the game coming up on Sunday has the two teams combined with a 1 in 5 record. And then the short week after that with Tampa and their win list and their quarterbacks out with a dislocated thumb, Bick or Mayfield. So, and oh, by the way, thank you, Case Keenum and the Bears for beating Philadelphia on Monday night football. If the Cowboys said one, they'd be tied for first place in the NFC East and boy, what a, you know,
what we thought was a gauntlet of games coming up with Houston and then Tampa's supposed to be good and then on the road at Green Bay and then Philadelphia. What a different feel, you know, for the Cowboys. And it's different just because those teams coming up are not having the success that a lot of people in vision. But listen, this game, to get to the playoffs this year in the NFC, you're going to have to win the division. So that was a big thing that Chicago won last night with a different quarterback. Appreciate it. Appreciate it. Because like Chrissy said, this is only week three, but I think that's the, the, the pill, it's hard to swallow is you look at the rest of the schedule and the games that you had circled that should have been W's and it's changing already in the path. If you left Rio with the win, that path looks really dang good. But hey, let's just make it a little bit harder here. More interesting because everybody, the NFC East right now is a, is a while and it's on the screen here behind us.
So shout out to the Eagles for that getting it done or not getting it done. That's going to be it for us. Today we're going to hear from Shottenheimer. Like I said, at four o'clock, we'll have some more updates for you tomorrow. And we will talk more about what is the current state of this team will get into that tomorrow. For Brianna, all-dridged, Christie Scales Candace Lamay, Shamoreson, we'll see you at the same time, same place. This has been a production of DallasCabboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
