Can the Eagles write the ship? Or is the season slipping away? Dick Vermeell joins us to talk about it. LeBron James is a six earth thank goodness and an exciting debut last night maybe. Although not loving the way a lot of us feel about it. Eagles and Jags London Sunday. We'll talk about that extensively today. We'll certainly review LeBron's preseason 76ers debut last night. 4:05I thought concerning in some ways. We'll get to that. Flyers lose again. No wins in five games unbelievable. And of course the Phillies pretty sure still no press conference. Just pointing that out. It's Friday. It is Friday. It's a week. Friday news don't you can do it today. I told you like around four o'clock. Exactly. All right. 215-592-94-94 to weigh in on all of it. 5:07Rusty. Ria, maybe the most rusty he's ever been. It did not look good. I mean, he looked like a seventh grader playing with Pro Basketball. And he looked frustrated. I mean, he got the technical. It just for a preseason game, it seemed odd. I mean, one of the things I was thinking is, what is LeBron thinking? No, I'm serious. Like, if I'm out there and I'm LeBron, and I'm like, I'd play with this guy in all star games. And I'd play with them in the Olympics when it really mattered and counted in an international competition. But like, this is my first time I'm in a game with him as teammates in an NBA game that's not an all-star game. And if I'm LeBron, I'm like, what the hell? Anyway, we'll take your thoughts. It didn't make sense in terms of he looks like he should be able to play faster, quicker, better. Because he is at a great weight for him. Yeah. As light as he's been since his rookie year, it just seems pretty obvious that he can't do the things he once did. Well, that's clear. He was in there for six minutes longer than LeBron and Jalen Brown last night.

6:10He ended up with six points. Yeah, I mean, look, he's always been a slow starter. We know that about Joel. And when I say slow starter, I mean, two a season. I mean, back from an injury. Like, there's always those five or ten games where he just kind of stinks as he's ramping back up. But like, holy hell, last night was particularly bad. So we'll take your thoughts and what stood out to you. You got to think about what is expected from him now. It's nothing like it was before. Wait, not as good as he used to be. No, he's not. But the guys around him are so much better than they used to be. That's right. That's right. The way that they moved the ball last night, the quickness, the sharpness on the passes and you know, having LeBron out there, setting the example of the net shot and people listening to most humans could not name a net. You know what's up, precincts and game, right? Yeah, we're sure. I know. Just want to make sure that doesn't count the standings I wasn't sure. They did have the starting lineup out there, right? Yeah, but it's not like, yeah, exactly. I'm playing a whole game. And those guys were making sure they didn't get hurt as much as playing.

7:12There's no doubt. So look, we'll take your thoughts in the sixures. LeBron especially, Giawell as well, 215, 59294, 94, 94. All right, let's get to the Eagles. Obviously, the main topic of the day, the birds. Look, during a toss spot, there's no doubt. Lot of injuries. I do think some of the chatter this week has been too negative. I really believe that both about the game and the season. I think there's too many people that are too down on the Eagles. Guys, don't kid yourself. There are reasons to be down on the birds. I mean, they really might not make the playoffs, but they might. I mean, there's this, I mean, we've gotten phone calls this week. They're going to win five games. We had a phone call from a guy there to go. They said they're going to pick in the top five of the draft, which they could. I don't think they will. So let's get into it here today at 215, 59294, 94. John, your thoughts on this game, Eagles. And obviously, I've very improved Jacksonville Jags team. It's in London. It's in two days. What are you thinking? I don't know if you took a gander at the injury report. Oh, I did. It's real bad.

8:13It's real bad. And you know what, the Jags have a lot of injuries too. But when I look at this list with Safequan, Zach Bond, Marquis Brown, Jihad Campbell, Marcus Epps, Dallas Goddard, Jonathan Grinard, Fred Johnson, Drew Kendall. Hold on, Drew Kendall. He's on the injury. What? He didn't practice yesterday. He didn't practice this week. I didn't know about that part. Quinyon Mitchell feels like he's better than expected because he was able to get out there in practice. Devonte Smith did not practice again. John Tavy and Wix. That's surprising. I saw that one too, John. It just keeps getting worse, doesn't it? It's like a contagion that's spreading throughout this team. It's really rough. Look, you got to push through a lot of things. There are times where it feels like when things get really bad, guys push through less.

9:15I'm not saying we're to that point yet, but this is the fifth game. What I've heard is that there's a somber Paul over that note, not even called the number of the facility. I don't know. Just reports. Maybe it was on NFL live yesterday. Maybe it was the tenor conversation in our show. Well, no, I mean, that certainly contributes. That strikes home for me. The way we feel is sort of being echoed within that building. The guys are hugging each other at lockers, consoling one another with the departure of Lane. That does affect your mindset and the way you get ready. I look at where we are in terms of injuries and mindset. I look at where the Jacksonville Jaguars are. They got in Liam Cohn, their head coach, exactly what we hoped to get in Nick Sireani.

10:18A young, really sharp offensive mind whose way ahead of the game, Colin plays, encouraging his guys, setting a tempo, creating new looks, vastly new looks, week to week that build off of the previous week. The guy is a rock star. And it's just beginning. He's got his team playing at an elite level. Last year you could see flashes this year, whole league cow. It's not just on his side of the ball. What he's doing with Trevor Lawrence is spectacular because Trevor Lawrence has had more talent in the world for the entire duration he's been in the league, but he hasn't done anything with it. It's been the whole story of potential means you haven't done anything yet. Well now he's doing. Now Trevor Lawrence is locked in. Now Trevor Lawrence, I mean his stats, I'll tell you about it when I get a chance to find

11:21him. He's playing a lot better than he ever has. And I've generally been on a great path. But here's the thing, the other side of the ball, the other side of the ball with this Anthony Campanelli defensive coordinator, a guy trained under Brian Flores and Vic Fangeo in Miami. That past defense is tied for first in the NFL with only three touchdowns allowed through the year in 2026. Six interceptions already is tied for first in the NFL. The total QBR against is third in the NFL at 51. They communicate unbelievably well. Remember what it was like last year when we could lock people down in that secondary? They're doing it with scheme. Yeah, they've got a lot of talent too, but great communication. It's simple for them, hard for offenses to figure out what you're looking at. This is going to be a problem for Jalen Hertz. Yeah, very tough spot.

12:22Look, we'll take your calls guys. The 215-592-9490 for obvious on the sixes with Juel's performance and LeBron's debut. On the Eagles, I'll say this, I do think the Eagles will lose. Now I don't think things are as dire both for the game and the season as the chatter this week has seemed to indicate. For one thing on the season, let me just say this, the vast majority of the Eagles injuries are short-term and relatively short-term. Now Lane is gone, okay, just gone. We have no idea when Dickerson comes back, it will be good, no clue. But everyone else is expected back and most are expected back either this Sunday, the following Sunday or the following Sunday. Within about three weeks, they should have the vast majority of their team ready to go. That gives me a lot more hope. Unless they have more injuries to other guys. For sure. But that gives me more hope for the season than I think people are thinking about at this stage. Now the game.

13:22Look, I think there's three clear areas where the Eagles need to improve. And I am not going to include the coaching. I know you listening, May, I'm not because that's not the way I feel. I think there's three clear areas Eagles need to improve. One is the offense aligned, one is the quarterback play of jail in the last two weeks, a lot worse than he had been, and the third is the defense. For a moment here, I'm going to push aside the old line because candidly, I do not expect it to be better on Sunday. I just don't. I just think, I just think, I mean, even if these guys, even if these guys grow into the role, I don't think they do it their first time playing together. Yeah. Like some of these guys, it's going to be their first start. Some of these guys, it's going to be their second start. And it's against the top flight. Yeah. Like it's pressure all the time. Yeah. I don't think it's reasonable to expect that the old line goes out there and is like really quality. I don't buy it. Okay. So that tells me there's really two things in play on Sunday to win the game. And obviously, ideally, both will pick up their play. Dylan and the defense.

14:22Here's what Jaylen needs to do. He's got to get the ball out of his hands faster. I mean, the players are designed, drop back, fire that ball out. I know not every time someone's going to be open, I understand it's tough. I am not sure in that element. He's in a tough spot. Got a call better place. Well, I disagree with that. It's ridiculous. Okay. They're reverting to the old dumb stuff that needs to stop. They said it was a full buy in. They need to, they need to be truthful about that part. Are you really fully bought in or not because the last two games they haven't? So like a lot of people agree with John Sondon. I mean, the reality is though, Jaylen has to play better. And I would hope everyone agrees with that because he was tremendous for two games and pretty lousy for two games. So he's got to be better. And then the defense that no one at this point is expecting an elite performance on Sunday. But we were expecting an elite season. Guys, can you be pretty good, please? Like, I'm not saying you got to go out there and be elite for four quarters. Can you be pretty good? I will contend that when they looked good Sunday versus the Rams five days ago, they weren't

15:25actually really good. Stafford was just screwing it up. I'm talking about a pass rush. That includes guys like Nolan Smith and Jelix. How about Jelix Hunt getting a sack? Like Nolan Smith and Jelix Hunter not supposed to be the three top players in the defense. And they aren't. But they are expected to be good players to go get the fricking quarterback. Go get them. Like, if Trevor Lawrence has improved this much, Nolan Smith and Jelix Hunt, do your fricking job and go get the quarterback. Now obviously the three guys you want to see shine the most because they're the stars are Quinyon Cooper and Jelene Carter. We don't know exactly what's going to happen with Quinyon. Looks like it's a pretty good chance to play. Cooper is going to play. Jelene's going to play. Ninja, big time. And then the complimentary guy's fricking compliment. The guys at Stink are trying to hold on. The safety is fricking stink. They stink. And that's why you need your good players to play well. Defense has to pick it up. Jelene has to pick it up.

I don't think it's quite as dire as a lot of people think. Jelene with limited turnovers and what should be a pretty good defense could keep you in this game. Could win you the game. We all want to see them ultimately the real goals. And the cerebral, deep run, all that kind of stuff. Be a truly great elite team. But one of the goals is to make the playoffs. And no one wants to see the Eagles do it just like the Phillies did. Just squeak your way in and then just whimper out the playoffs. No one wants that. But it's better than, you know, seven and ten. I grew both of you and I'll say this. I don't, because guys, I can't hear 24 hours a day. You know, I just can't. I unfortunately do listen a lot. Like, I didn't hear it on our show at all. I believe Big Tango is going to have them ready to go. And angry as you know what? I can't say it. But anyway. And I also believe that I'm going to have to go. And I also believe that Jalen is going to have a bounce back then. Because you just said it. It's better to agree. It's such that he and his competitive fire is such that he's not going to let this. It's going to stick in his broad. I believe he's going to come out and a tone for it. Two people with that call earlier. I believe the name of Glenn and strawberry mansion. And Michelle, I believe a high pressure. They were spot on. Everybody's trying to make Trevor Lawrence into Superman.

30:44I like his game, but he is not there yet. Trust me. And if Big Cook slumps it up and his little laboratory over the week, the defense can get to Mr. Lawrence. Well, I'll tell you this, Rhonda. I've always been on impressed with Trevor Lawrence. But I understand from John and others. He's played really lights out in the first month. I haven't seen him play yet this year. I mean, the last thing I'm doing in September is watching a frickin' jacks game as if I care. But we are that our biggest run right now is the wide zone and have been through our first four games. Obviously you do everything you can do to win each and every game. And sometimes that calls for under center. Sometimes that calls for guns. Sometimes that, I think that we've had some success under center. I think it's been, you know, again, it hasn't been good enough at any level as far as our coaching and our playing. And so you're constantly going to try to do things to win each and every game. I think they're trying to blend the old and the new. And I know John, you can't stand that. But that's what I think they're trying to do. Well, it's not working. And the farther we get from the West Coast offense, the worse off will be.

40:00Now we're in a situation where I guess you're reteaching everything to half the offense. And it's just not going to look right. I don't know how to express this any more simply. I expect a two touchdown loss this week. Like this is this is going to be ugly. And we will do hopefully it'll dissuade them from doing this blending thing moving forward. I don't know that it will though because if you're Nick Ciriani, this is you have to try to, you have to try to write the ship in some way. I would expect he's got to be frustrated with the way, you know, the injury situation and the way that the team has played at times, especially offensively. But defensively now as well, he needs to do what he can to write the ship despite the fact that they've taken a lot of responsibility away from him.

41:01The one way he can do this is to backdoor the offense essentially, you know, like he's got a headset on. He can contribute to the play calls. I don't know exactly how it happens, but it does feel like his fingerprints are all over the offense. I don't know if he's you know, they're consulting one another on the headsets. 1:15:24backs and who really gets featured so I think Will Shipley will be the starting running back I don't know if they'll feature any of them right I don't know if you want to feature any of these guys but I think Will will be the main guy and look he has shown flashes at times at times right like he's never gotten the chance to be the guy so we will see how he does with it but they signed Damon Pierce to the active roster this week I think that's also about kick returns if Will Shipley is going to be having a big role in offense maybe you know you have Pierce back there returning kicks and then they have two options on the practice squad now the tough thing is you can only elevate so many players so I think you could see some roster moves today in terms of maybe signing Zach or or something like that instead of having to elevate him but the two guys on the practice squad are Carson Steel who obviously had a very good preseason and then you have Jaden Blue who they signed from the Cowboys I think he was a fourth round pick he's kind of a Swiss Army knife like can do a lot of things only okay which is why he's on the practice squad but he he can catch a ball out of the backfield he does have really good speed I think he ran like a 4-2 something coming out of college

So we're losing our identity as a defensive football team Well coach Here's one thing I'd say because the tug of word John and I've been in all week Is I just do a thing with the injuries. It's an impossibility. I

1:40:39Mean the injuries have been so plentiful and sometimes in games I can understand Nick not knowing the identity. I mean think of it this way you coached Three great running backs Wilbert Marshall Falk and priest hauls. 1:42:52Going back to the stuff that they had been running We were told by Sean Mannion this summer at training camp that this was a full buy-in on this new offense The the West Coast stuff the under center stuff the heavy outside zone run game stuff and Then you know the last couple games it does feel like they've been reverting back to what they were more familiar with You know a lot out of shotgun. I Wonder you based on your experience if you think that's advisable You know when you're trying to install this new offense Does it make more sense to go back to the old stuff that the guys are more familiar with when the new stuff doesn't work Or is it wiser to keep that continuity and pound away at the new until you get it? Well first off as you guys have probably heard me say I'm not a as big a shotgun fan There's a lot of people are okay, and I think that the percentage of shotgun snaps is fading a little bit in the NFL right now
