The Go Birds Podcast is sponsored by Ashley America's number one furniture and mattress store. Hey, hello, it is the Go Birds by Guess sponsored by Ashley, the number one furniture and mattress store in America. We love Ashley. Ashley is awesome. Unlike today, which was, I mean, just a devastating loss in so many ways. We'll get into, you know, blame and this and that and look, I, you know, how much, you know, blame is there. I mean, when you just go through the litany of coming into the game without Devante without, uh, born without God or with the last minute lane scratch. And then in game, you lose Quinyan. Oh my God, that was such a crushing injury. You lose, um, Sequan immediately. Then you lose tank later. I mean, it was like the reverse body bad game.

Our way this time and, you know, I do devastating. It was a dead. What, what, I went into this game thinking they were going to lose. So I was like, okay. And then it looked like, oh, they're, they're giving us a real gutsy effort today. And then it was like, oh my God, this is going to be a really awesome team, you know, building type win. And then it became a between the injuries and the way they lost and the fact that, you know, you have to go London and probably like be like hamster. Are they going to have roster players where they barely have, you know, it's just a, it's a tough spot. Like again, it was, uh, the injuries all that it's, it was, it was, it was an awful, awful loss today. We'll get into all the specifics, but just as a fan, especially, you know, after the Phillies and all that, just a dev, and it's like an awful week, man, this sucks. How you doing? Yeah. So I would say there's two ways to look at this. Right. First, I would say anyone that watched the halftime pod, maybe never make sure that sees the day, the light of day again.

Quite a different body. I might tweet about like, I'm fine with serianny going for a 10s, not that big 13 never killing it. Like it's, I get it. Like it's awful. So here's what I would say. Like emotionally, I 100% understand why people are so mad. They were so impressive that first half. And it looked like they had this game in complete control. They get it with what eight minutes to go. They drive down the field. They're after two yard line. They're running the ball. Well, I didn't like the play call on fourth and two. I was, I hated it. I hated it. I was fine with the decision to go for it on fourth and two. If you get it, like I get it 10 and 13, like it's not that big difference. You're in the game. You're in the game. You're in the game. And the game and your defense has been great. Your 100% yeah, I was fine with that one. I hated the decision not to punt on fourth and one and a half. The prior one that they were able to get the stop and it did, but, you know, I'm with you. So, so I mean, it's the life of a head coach, right? Like you I thought made I thought Nick made the correct decision on fourth down to go for it. You score there. You end the game. It's over. Didn't happen, right? Just did not happen. They didn't execute. Of course, the defense. You know, I'll of course make my drew from a drew from Westchester reference here situational big fan.

Right? Like situational big fan. Geo he gives up a touchdown drive like right off the bat 98 or a touchdown drive. So I think emotionally from the high of that first half, nobody thought they were going to win this game. We were on Goveridge Radio last week. I was out here with the fans in the beginning. Like everyone entered the stadium thinking, they're probably going to lose, right? They come and then when say come on, it was like, oh, they're definitely lose. You know, they come out. They they have an awesome first half probably the best half of football. Definitely they played the season. You could argue for quite a little bit. And the second half kills them and they lose the game. And I understand the emotion of it going from like, they're not going to win to oh my God, our hopes are up. Oh my God, that's a moral victory. This is going to be what a win to like the crushing nature of the loss, right? Like I get how it happened mattered. I think honestly if they would have lost this game like 30 to three, it would feel very definitely. I said it to Emily. I said it. Right. So people would have felt very differently. So I if you are mad in the comments, if you are upset about the loss, I fully get it. But I would also say there's then in my opinion, like a non-emotional slash like realistic way to look at this. They went into this game.

And for the good majority of it had no Devonte, no sake, one no Dallas Goddard, no Lane Johnson, no Landon Dickerson. Then on defense, Quinion goes out early. They're missing Zach Bond. I mean, you could argue they're missing like seven of their 10 best. Good yard went out. Good yard went out, right? And they were already roster deficient coming in. You know, they didn't even have a full where they 49 guys. So it's like, and that's not just losing those guys. It's not just losing those guys. It's you open guys filling in. You know, but the point. The point I'm trying to make here is I actually think they showed a ton of flight today. They were going up against a Rams team that desperately needed the win. A Rams team that I thought didn't show up in the first half and they lost like they lost, but they gave the what I haven't looked at the odds. You know, obviously now they're probably not live. But like going into today, I would guess the Rams were high up on the Super Bowl favorite list. They certainly were the heavy favorites going into the season. I know they're missing people to their missing Miles Garrett. They're missing Aaron Donald. I get that right. But like they took the Super Bowl favorites up until the final minute with basically their B squad. Right. And so I get the emotion of the loss. I know Nick's going to get crushed for this.

I actually come out of this feeling really good about Nick and like the staff and the fight they got from their players and the fact that they were good enough against a team that needed it and had more talent out there. Had someone argue have more talent, even when the rosters are completely definitely I had let alone right with like how it was today. So I get the emotion of the loss and I hate being the guy when people are mad being like, don't be mad. Like I get it right. You should feel like you want to feel. But at the end of the day, I think why this really hurts is because they lost to Chicago last week because they have a tough game going coming up. They're super banged up, but I think the actual game itself today was not a bad loss. It kind of was because of how it played out. But going into this, if you would have told me the Rams, which were touched down in the final two minutes to win the game considering everything that happened. I'm not saying you would sign up for it because you never sign up for a loss. But I would have said probably not. I think the Rams win this game and it probably isn't that close or at least you know, not win it in that fashion. So that's just how I feel about it. I can't lie.

Like I thought the fourth down decision was fine. I thought they played hard most of the game with the short deck of cards. Like that's just that's how I view this. Yeah. So you and I are mostly similar. You know, I'm I am much more sad than mad and like I hated the decision on the fourth of the manav where they touched pushed at that point. I'm okay with it. Like it was too deep in your own feel. I get it. But in that spot when you're down to him, you have all the injuries and your defense is playing well. Like that. That's my man up 10 like I didn't like that one. But like I I was totally fine with the fourth and two and again trying to end the game there again with all the efficiencies. And then you lose immediately. Say, Juan and you lose Queen a little bit later like in game then you lose for an hour then it's one thing to like have a plan.

And then you have to like get punched in the mouth and keep you know moving forward. And I thought they just got out lasted essentially. You know, and I'm with you like I don't I get their nitpicks like I don't think Jalen was particularly good. And I was like also the same time like it seemed like it was open. It seemed like it was under pressure all the time. It seemed like you know we have to watch back and all of a sudden I'm sure there were some plays and I'm sure it wasn't good. I'm not saying they played well enough. But I also feel like it's just it felt this can bob you know he's throwing the bottom of kind lemon to the don't have you and wicks and and Zach hurts and you know like what and dead Cooper. I mean there is Cooper was amazing like great job. But it's like with a with a two back up lineman in them now in there now. And one guy shifted to another spot. One guy playing at the last second like it just again I get it. And when I think if Quinion doesn't just that one injury I think Quinion has a guy I think they sell it like I think if they get three yards on fourth and two they win the game. Of course, of course I do too. But I'm just saying that one injury. I think he win. So it's like I'm way more bummed than mad or angry. I'm just bummed because they they you know it was like right there almost felt like and the injury is now moving forward concern you know.

And so now let's go to the next part of this, which is I think obviously I think it's a rational take a how I view it. Of course I'm going to think it's rational. But then there's like the large. Crazy take coming guys, but I believe that I swear. But but then here's like the larger take is that this team isn't a bit of trouble like they're going to London next week to play the Jags. They very well could be two and three. Like who knows if sake one plays. I guess probably not who knows if Devonte played. Oh, I don't think so. Yeah. I think sake one time. It's probably not going to play. I mean the flight to London has to matter here when talking about him. Of course right. So so holistically a lot of the problems that we think our problems did show up in this game. I mean jail in two for nine 10 yards in the second half over 12 on third down, which is ironic. Actually, one of the good third down offenses in the NFL coming into the game, but they were putting themselves in tough spot. So like the offensive line. There was pressure all day. I think some of that was blitzing right off to go back and watch. But like I do think that that that wasn't so much just like guys missing blocks as it was just they blitzed in the Eagles couldn't handle it.

But they have now right this the second half offense is a major problem. I've been saying the stat all week nine and eight in their last 17. They're now nine and nine. So I think like while we can give them all the flowers of like trying hard today and actually better performance than we thought that doesn't change the outcome in the reality of the outcome. There is a real chance that next week at this time or I don't know what time will be in London, but like whatever, right. They are have a losing record for the deepest into the season for the first time since 2021. Like that is what they're staring. I think they probably will. I think they're in trouble next week. And by the way, Dallas one came back to win today. The giants won today. Like it was a it was a bad day. Yeah. So so I think that they are in there in some trouble here. Right now. I said they had a lot. I said they had you know, I think they had you know, you don't react early, but like the injuries and the situation they're in is is absolutely concern. Yeah. Yeah. Well, into your point. Like they they very well could be two and three, even if they're three and two. That's not like something to write home about. I said they had to go one and one in the next two. They're own one. So they beat the Jags next week. And I think you feel differently. Then the schedule doesn't like let up. But you have Carolina. You have Dallas at home on prime time Monday night, Jeffrey Larry night.

You have I think Washington, New York, Washington, New York, the Steelers, the Colts, like you have games coming up that are much easier than this specific game versus this team in this spot with this roster. So I think that they can turn this around. But they are they're playing with fire here. Like they're they're giving themselves not much room for air. And even with the bad roster today, even with all the things, the second half offense is killing them. It is killing them. They had 20 points in the first half and didn't score a single point the rest of the the rest of the game. The exact same thing last week, not a single point in the second half, Tennessee, what they have maybe seven points in the second half something like that. Like they are second half adjustments are killing this team. And it's not just this year. It was a problem last year too. So when it's a problem for that pro pro long the stretch. It's either Nick or Jailer, like or both, right. But like it's not man, I get these young coordinator like those elements are in it. But this problem's been here for a long time. And when we had the conversation earlier in the week about nine and eight in the last 17 one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Part of this is they're unable to fix certain problems and these problems continue to persist. And so do I think they could make the playoffs. Yes, do I think they could win a playoff.

Yes, would it shock me if they missed the playoffs and went like nine and eight. The way it's going. And that's because they're on they have shown an inability to fix what's hurting this team today specifically. I'm not crushing for crushing them for it. Because of all the different, you know, elements in this game. But on a big picture, they are having trouble correcting a problem that's really, really hurting them. And I don't know why we would have faith they're going to fix it other than just a belief because of the five years of what they've done or wanting to believe it. But it's been 21 days. It hasn't been that long in NFL terms. You know, I mean like I don't know about that. I mean it's it's a season four games. Yeah, but like that's again. And they went up. They made the playoffs last season. Like I get your point. Like I'm where you're going. I understand. But I also think like right now with the way this team is, it's like hard to really judge in the sense of like not only did we talk so much about the offense coming in. All the new pieces and all that but like they don't freaking have any pieces like these guys again, like not only did they lose like the main pieces that Jaylen has ever worked with in Devon.

They got her and particularly got it for a couple games here. And then like the offensive line, which was already, you know, this new scheme and all that they stay. Now we have what like and we'll talk about. And we'll see what happens with that. We don't really know too much. I assume but but today they had three players playing in different positions in the season started with. I mean like they, you know, so like and that's not even talking about that you just lost your best defensive player in Quinion for who knows what's going to happen there. You know, it's a one it like and maybe it's still the that Kara who knows but his body is is is not through. The sake one has not been a positive. He hasn't been asked. He has not been a contributor. Something about that like point being said one Devon, say got her. Oh line. Like it's like I get it. I don't think it's been good enough. But like. And I don't think it's been good enough. But I also I think what we've seen so far this year, it's hard to compare it to the problems before because it's like.

This is like and again, not making excuses just more like how do you evaluate these people when that's happening around them in the offense like that like it's just I get what you're saying and I think that how this season plays out is going to be fastening towards your point. But I also like they might just be snake pit this year. I mean who knows when these like if sake ones out of few games if Devon, it looks like you definitely have to play next we got that. Definitely, I think that's strong for it. It's worth. I think he could play. I would say okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. I was just going by their port. Yeah. Like the quignon will see what happens with that like but you know. It just feels like one of those seasons where you know all the injury luck from all these years before seems to be coming back with a vengeance. It's regressing to the mean you would say and like I get it. I'm not making excuses. They haven't done a good enough job in a lot of the cases of what you're talking about. But like today, it seemed like again, we're we're driving the first three games season today. It seemed like they came out and fought and played hard. And it wasn't like necessarily the penalty. I got some of the penalty called against were like horrendous ticky-tank type calls.

I was in the Rams were the slot. I also thought they benefited that pass interference call again. It was about one. Yeah. They're a few each way. They were a few each way. But but at the end of the day, like I just I get your point and I agree. And I think I'm concerned for the season because of the injuries first and foremost, like by far the injuries. And then just the fact that like the way this is played out, not offensive line problems and it's not like it just feels like they you know a lot to correct and like even when these guys come back, how you know how when are they going to have the full offense together and what Here's the others. You know what I mean? Yeah, I agree. And I think the other thing is look it's early, I guess, although even for you, it's after the first month and all right. But like, well, that's why I'm saying I'm concerned. I'm not saying. I agree with you. Yeah. I agree. But what I'm saying is I think we might just need to remove the idea that there's this mythical new offense waiting at some point this season. Well, like they they don't pass it on. It's not interesting. Well, especially based on the way it's played out. It's not. Yeah. But like they don't they don't throw it from under center.

They were in shotgun almost the entire game. They don't like do play act like they what what do they do they don't throw it over the middle. So I think that they could work their way to 11 wins by like getting healthy, taking care of the ball. I thought the defense actually outside of the big drives was good. So like you can see enough pieces where it's like they can ugly their way up to 11 wins. And you know the cowboys like they always blow it. Blah blah blah. The giants. I don't think they'll sustain it. Like you can make that argument. But I think there was some hope going into this year that an injury has been a part of it. There was some hope going into this year that you would see a new offense, a new jail and a new type of thing. And you're not seeing that at all at all. Yeah. Well, they started this season trying to do it. It's seen by and I'm fine with it. I get it. I get it. I'm with you. I know. But I think it is. I think it's more circumstantial than my choice. I do think it's a fact. The offense line hasn't been able to block guys have been hurt. Like you've got a different part of going into now. So I have to like, but part of the argument for the new offense was like you plug guys in. It doesn't require you know like the talent. All those things like that was part of the argument.

Now this is an extreme example because they're missing a ton of players. But I just I am starting to think that after a month of watching them plus training camp, they are just not a team that is going to be like a top five offense. They are going to have to win. Yeah. I don't talk to you again. I think it's just in this moment. It's hard to to separate the injuries and the poor play by certain guys like cause of it. And and the offense and what they're trying to do and what they want to do and what they're forced to do. Like I agree. Like on your overall point. Like I am not expecting this offense to be awesome this year based on the injuries. How many guys are coming back in this net. But like I do think that if guys are healthy. Like if like if Devon take it was back out in God, I was like healthy and say one and all that stuff. Like I do think there's a world where they can work into a good offense by the end of season or like a solid offense. I think that's so much for thinking to be like look, we played four games and like James had too good and too bad. Right. Like and good games. They they it's not like they put up 35. They weren't going to like get care. Yeah. I know. I know. But again, that's because the offensive lines. But like again, I don't expect the offensive line to get great or anything. But like if it does get better, that could make a big difference in a lot of the what we're talking about.

Like I get your point. Like I'm not saying I expected. I'm just saying the the injuries are the biggest thing that concerned me right now and and what it means for you know guys working together and and cohesion all this type of stuff too. But I definitely I just think we're truly to say that they won't ever get to being a solid offense. But I agree. Like if you're betting your life on him right now, you're sure I mean it's not a question. I think I would say before I get down the locker room is like the nature of the injuries are concerning to me. I'm trying for sake one. For for Devonte knee injury for Quigna and I will say watching on the side. I don't even know what I think losing time after the sake on right. I mean, there's a real world. You you're going to have to promote like Damon Pearson, Jayden Blue. Yes. I didn't probably will. So I do that. I was like when say one down. I was like one of all the injuries one saving Grace is thanks. Good. And it's like. Yeah. No, agreed. But I'll be. Last thing. Say after this and all that. Last thing before you go. Do you have anything on the lane thing? Because that was the most surprising like the injuries happen game. But this you know eight minutes before in

the week and then and not to mention sake one. Mark Elbow asked to find the the morning he's playing. Yeah, like it's amazing. So yeah, it'll be an interesting week off to London. We go to see how that's going to help me about it. I mean, this is like a lot of things. I'm happy. I mean, it's like I've got to be just like these like feeling sports right now. Yeah, not LeBron. You need you to do it. You better be good. It's like everybody better. Yeah. Sixers better. Be good. All right. We'll be back later than we before London. And obviously stuff from London and the whole thing. And we'll commiserate together. And we'll look for Aliets stuff from that locker and the sucks. I love you pal. This is a bummer. Can't wait. Love you till. Man. Thanks. I got to say you got to end the body. I'm going to say I'm going to say. I'm going to say that. Yeah. Yeah. This is the way I'm going to say. I'm going to say. I'm going to say, I'm going to say. I'm going to say, I'm going to say, I'm going to say, I'm going to say. I I'm saying thanks to Tucker. I'm thinking Tucker who's super bummed as well and angry and I just want to say thanks Tucker for showing up and doing your job. All right, we'll talk to you next week until then He's out
