In fact, the Dallas Goddard part of this whole thing is a big piece of it. Because Dallas Goddard had a void and if it triggered, it was gonna be a $20 million cap hit to the Eagles that got pushed once. As my man, Zach Burman and Philly reported, it got pushed again. Now till Monday, that's a part of it because Goddard and Brown are sort of interconnected. The Eagles can't pay Goddard if they're keeping Brown and they can't take both cap hits. So this is gonna continue to go over the weekend.
I don't sense real momentum right now on this, but I'm sure how he's gonna continue to make half conversations I shouldn't say make calls because he's been receiving calls. Half conversations that AJ Brown over the weekend. We'll see, he's still an eagle right now. Will he be? At this point, I don't know. I'm tired of guessing, we'll let you know. Mike Garifolo over the weekend. Dallas Goddard, AJ Brown, their links. Eagles won't keep both. Fast forward the yesterday. All right. Eagles re-signed Dallas Goddard on a one year deal. They kept moving back the void date on his contract. It felt like to work with Goddard and AJ Brown to get Brown to another team. Maybe the Patriots could be the paths. And get Goddard back because they didn't want to lose both. And now Goddard's an eagle and AJ Brown's still an eagle, and I'm just I'm confused by the whole thing. Yeah, this just seems like they're dragging their feet, but it's also you keep hearing about June 1st and like their whole thing with the cap. But I'm like, okay, maybe it makes financial sense. And for the guy that is in charge of balancing your cap books,
maybe they would prefer that. We got a draft coming up in April. Wouldn't the draft be more of a targeted time to do that? Now, unless the Eagles are satisfied with getting 2027 draft picks, which is supposed to be a great draft. They said a lot of years, but every future draft is supposed to be great. But maybe that's what they're shooting for. And who knows? Maybe that would actually work out better for the Patriots. Can you imagine getting AJ Brown and keeping your first and second on pick for this year and then adding all of those pieces to the team? So that might be the most class half full approach to this as a Patriot team. It's a good point, because everybody's like, oh, wouldn't you rather try to future first round or than 31 this year? And I get that from the actual pick value standpoint. Like the Patriots probably won't be drafting 31 again next year. You know, like you're the Eagles, you're like, oh, that might be 21 next year, right? Yeah, well, I just mean yeah, it's not gonna be a worse first round pick. Unless they win the Super Bowl, it won't be worse for the Eagles. Right, right. So for the Patriots, like trade your first round or now, because next year it might be higher unless you win the Super Bowl. But it's a good point, Keith. I mean, why not just worry about that tomorrow.
And in the meantime, get AJ Brown and use your first round pick. And even if it's 25 versus 31, same difference at the end of the day, you should be good. In other words, I think you win the first round or an AJ Brown. You should be good anyway. Now, I wonder if the Patriots part of their thought processes. They don't want to trade the first round pick and they don't think they have to. Cause maybe nobody's offering Philly a first round pick. Well, the Rams are reportedly out. Yeah, were they ever in? Why were the Rams interested in AJ Brown? What Floreal reported over the weekend? I don't know. Floreal reported that they were calling teams about Adams. And so he would be an ad, they weren't gonna keep all three. They got, they got to pay Puka. So if AJ Brown, what do we call the Rams? It was like, hey, we'll do AJ Brown for Devonti Adams. And then he floated that. Maybe, I mean, what Floreal said is that the Rams were calling around about Devonti engaging interest on him. So if AJ Brown were to go to the Rams, would that mean that Devonti Adams could maybe be available for the Patriots? Maybe, although what was what were him and Josh like at the end? Not good. Devonti and Josh.
Oh, you know what? The Daniels brought him in. He said, please get me out of here before I die. Yeah. That was Jimmy G. But then didn't he have something complimentary to say about McDaniels? I'm probably going to fall. I think that's right. We're talking about, we're talking about free agency last year. I don't think he hated him. Not like some of the other guys that were through a champagne party when they got, I'm sure he's got fired. I also think I'm sure it's different to be charitable to Josh. I'm sure it's a lot different when he's just calling your plays versus your head coach. 100%. So maybe you could smooth that over. But anyway, long story short, the Rams now are out on AJ Brown. And it sounds like it's back to the Patriots and the Eagles where it's been all along. Yeah. So do I think they're going to wind up with AJ Brown? If he gets moved and I think they're going to have to move him, I do as well. The question is when and the question is how much and I thought Goddard signing yesterday, maybe we would have showed up today at 10 and AJ Brown will be a patriot, but we're still waiting. Maybe 205. A lot of deals get done. Good walking down the hallway. Good point. Time to time again. It might be accelerated. We just don't know the details yet and it will be breaking news on W.E.I. afternoons
later on. Good point. So this is where the Romeo dobs signing is even better because I'm not going to like change completely how I feel about dobs. I don't think he's a number one receiver, but he is an upgrade to the room. Like he's a nice addition rather than just relying on booty and Mac Collins and Kyle Williams and pop dog lists. So you have Romeo dobs, which I think allows the Patriots as a team to be a little bit more patient and be like, we don't have to freak out about getting AJ Brown. Even though that is should be priority number one, you get AJ Brown and now your receiver room is better than it was a year ago. Because even now, I think best case scenario, you're like dobs takes digs his spot, which I don't even know if he can do. I don't think he can. But that's what they maybe they're talking themselves into. But even still, even if you just brought digs back, we all thought you needed to improve the room, but at least they don't have to freak out about like, oh, there's nobody out there. We have nobody. Now, we have to draft one. Correct. Because like, so you're not forced into using pick 31 on a receiver now. They signed well, and I don't think you have to do a period.
You signed Vera Tucker. You don't need to draft an alignment at 31. You signed Dremont Jones. You don't need to draft an ed rusher at 31. You signed Romeo dobs. You don't need to go draft a receiver at 31. So I think you covered yourself enough to just let the best player fall to you at 31. And you know, maybe they'll target somebody. Maybe they'll feel like we really need to upgrade that room or maybe they'll trade 31 for AJ Brown. But I'm with you, Keith on this. I think they put themselves in a decent spot for it. Our guy Aaron Schatz at ESPN went through what he thought were the five best off seasons in the NFL. And he has the Patriots third on his list, Panthers, number one, okay. Chiefs number two. You see who the chief's just acquired? Chiefs number two on there. Yeah. Who do they get? Ken Walker. Oh, yeah. Oh, I think you just got it. No, they got him. We talked about that last week. Yep. Super Bowl MVP. No, no, no, I'm sorry. I thought you went in free agency. Who do they get? No, do you see who they just acquired today? No, no. Justin Fields.
Okay. Well, as A's, my home is going to be ready week one. They might need a guy. They might need a guy. I don't know. Gardner Minchews where? The Cardinals. Is that where he signed? He just signed somewhere. So they needed a backup because you can't have that a lot of him guy playing quarterback and all that. No, that's how tough watch. I'll know Justin Fields can be an awfully tough watch. But now he's on the cheese. Anyway, Chiefs number two on the list. Which one of those two guys is better? Fields. I don't know. I'm not telling you, Fields is good. Fields are a lot of them. What's his name? What's his name? Yeah, exactly. He probably still had a better game last year than Fields had. I don't know. That guy was pretty bad, dude. Yeah. Did you watch that London game against Denver? Yeah, I did. I started in fantasy. Yeah, I did. Yeah. Yeah. I watch it a little too close. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He should play a different position. Now, I know that usually gets, there's a lot of backlash with that. You're like, ah, you're racist for saying that. Like, no, I've seen enough of Justin Fields. He should play another position. It's I think he'd be effective. Is it weird in the back or like a, like a H back? Is it weird that now Andy Reed brought him in?
And I'm kind of like, I might be an idiot. I might be an idiot. That might be weird. I might be back in on him. But I think he's done. He's had a lot of kicks at the can, hasn't he? I feel like he's had a lot of opportunities. Oh, no. He's had ample amount of chances. Bears, Steelers, where he lost the job. And then now last year with the Jets, where he again lost the job. Tough. Patriots are third on that Shats list, Keith. All right. He has their best signing as Romeo Dobb. He has their most underrated signing as Reggie Gilliam. What? Mike recess some thoughts on it. You don't like their Reggie Gilliam signing? That's the most underrated. I mean, it's pretty underrated, I would say. Yeah, they're most underrated signing. Yeah, their best service. They're most are the leagues. No, they're mostly that it for each team. Yeah, they're most leagues. Yeah. No, they've been very active despite what some have predicted. They were very, very active. I heard they were a lot of players. I heard they weren't going to do anything. And it turns out they've been doing this stuff. They actually went out and they actually spent. And you can want them to do more. And I think that's fair. And you can still want them to go get AJ Brown. But they've been more aggressive in free agency
than I expected. And I give craft credit for that. If these guys can't play, that's on Raible and that's on Wolf and that's on Stretch and that's on Cowden. Yeah, but the money spent, I'm actually impressed with where craft went this off season. I didn't think you could. No, it's been really good. And if they add AJ Brown, it goes from good to very good to great. Like wherever you happen right now, you just put it over the top. And then you still have the upcoming draft. But no, they went out there and they didn't just say, well, we had a really good team last year. And let's just bring a lot of the same guys back. Because that's the other part of this. They didn't have a lot of free agents, but the ones that they did, they've let go. And I think for the most part, that's good decisions. Like I didn't need Jalen Hawkins back. That was a good year from him, you know, thanks. But we're going to upgrade and they did. Didn't need Tonga. Didn't need Tonga back. Chasen's the one where just seeing, he was the best free agent there. And seeing how he got a one year deal, that's the one where I'm like, eh, I kind of wish they brought him back on a one year deal. But in general, I agree. I was bracing to lose all those guys.
I thought Chasen would get more money. And I don't think they're going to miss any of those guys. The only player they lost that is Diggs. Diggs. Because even, you know, Garrett Bradbury was solid and they traded him and we'll see what they can do and what the new look looks like. Maybe it'll be an upgrade. I think that's good business. One year with Garrett Bradbury, you got a fifth round pick out of it. And maybe Vera Tucker and your overall offensive win is bad. I think that's good business. I like that move. Yeah. So it really comes down to the only like maybe dip from a year ago across the board with all the moves is Diggs Dobbs. But if you have Dobbs and AJ Brown, I'm like, forget about it. And maybe even a draft pick, like who knows what they decided to do at that position. But that could be potentially a big win. Circling back to AJ Brown. And Bedard has been all over craft and his spending. And basically right now, they've spent. If you follow it on a three year rotating basis, which is how craft has said, they pay attention to their cash spent. Don't worry about the salary cap. Their cash spent. They're within a million dollars of their. Spring is here and the shopping list is long.

So stop inner shop online and get well-worthy pieces for less. Only it bobs. Their cash spending goal as Bedard has it targeted. So to acquire AJ Brown, another piece has to move out. Whether that is on Wendell, whether that is Christian Barmore, we'll see and we talked about this on Friday, there is an alternate way to go about it. And it's not sending out cash. It's Mike Raible sideling up to Robert Kraft and as Bedard puts it, sweet talking him into spending a little bit more. Here's that. I think that any big expenditure to me, like an AJ Brown or whoever you want to mention, some people are still talking about Max Crosby, even though I think there's next to zero chance of that.
Then I think it's either a situation where you have cash out going out, Barmore, Michael Wendell and or Mike Raible saying, you know, maybe they do think that they can get AJ Brown at some point. I think that would involve Robert Kraft being very confident that like, look, I can sweet talk Robert. I know exactly what he needs to hear. I'll say sweet nothings in his ear and he'll give me the okay to get AJ Brown at that point in time. No, take your time, right? Get under arrest. We got a bunch of sweet talking coaches around here. Oh my gosh. Mark was certainly probably gonna get any player he wants. Little Vrable Kraft pillow talk. That's not bad. I'm very proud and pleased. You need proud and pleased. So yeah, I think, well, Mike Raible does deserve the benefit of the doubt with a lot of things the way the off season went and the way the regular season went last year. And so he had that line that we've all kind of latched onto when he sees something, he gets it. Now that he's talking about himself. Yeah. And he doesn't control all the budget with the Patriots. So I didn't take that as like,
he gets every single player that he wants and there is no budget. I never took it that way. Or like definite they're getting AJ Brown. Yeah, right. But I think the connection is clear. You brought this up when they signed Kevin Byard. You're like, that was an obvious one. That was the guy that he had. There's a lot of connections there. It was also a need and then they got him. Now that one was different. He was a free agent. He could sign. They gave him one year. He's an older player. He was happy to take it and boom, he's here. The other one, you need Philadelphia to sort of play along in this, but it's the same thing. We're kind of connecting the dots there pretty clearly between Vrable and Brown. And could Vrable talk to Robert Crafts about getting AJ Brown? Yeah, I definitely think that would work. Yeah. It's got to be some real sweet talk, though, to get Robert Crafts to go over his three-year budget. That's some real sweet, sweet talk. Is what you're going to do. Some Mark O'Sturm-esque sweet talk. But that's where maybe all of a sudden on when he was gone and then you have another guy who you think can have similar production at the fraction of the cost and then it ends up being the same amount of money that's coming out of Robert's pocket.
And we talk, right. And we talk about that with the Red Sox all the time. It's like, hey, Craig Breslow, you have a budget. And so you got to operate within John Henry's budget. That stinks. Everybody wishes John Henry spent more and we'll apply the same thing to Crafts. Crafts has spent more than I thought. This is more than I thought they were going to spend this off season. I thought they might really lay low and sit out free agency and I was wrong about that and I'm happy that I was wrong about that. But yeah, now if you want AJ Brown, then you're going to make a call. Who's out? Is it Barmore? Is it unwenew? Unless you can sweet talk into Vrable or Vrable can sweet talk Crafts rather and open it up as wallet for a little bit more dough. Speaking of buyer, you mentioned him in the path signing last week. Twitch chat says, Keith really buyers an upgrade? Isn't he old? I was saying a significant upgrade. I would say that's, that might be where they upgraded the most. Byard, we're going to play a clip from GRD coming up. Maybe he slowed down a little bit. Yeah. But I think he's going to be a big upgrade and I trust Brian Frizoko. He's a Bears fan. He does Twitch for WEEI afternoons. He's in with us a lot. He said he's also going to fill the void of digs
as like a fiery leader. Leadership guy, not just a captain, but like a fiery leader. Get the guys all revved up before the game. He's going to fill that roll too. So I think that's a big signing for that. Yeah, I thought that was the most obvious upgrade spot. I feel like Hawkins was their worst defensive starter and they made some plays during the year and they felt comfortable enough moving on from peppers and doggers at the beginning of the season to give the jobs to Hawkins and Woodson. But as the season played out, I mean, he was the one I thought was most in need of an upgrade. I love how Woodson sort of finished the season and then the cornerbacks were always good. So yeah, no, I love the buyer signing. 617-7797-9797. We'll get to your phone calls here in a moment. One more update from Pro Football Talk over the weekend. They did say multiple league sources have characterized to Pro Football Talk that it's inevitable. AJ Brown will get traded. The question is whether the Eagles will do it before or after June 1st. Before free agency started, it was believed they'd wait until after June 1 when the 2026 cap consequence would dramatically be smaller. Would the Eagles not making a significant move
during the free agency period, although since Flora wrote this, they brought back Dallas Goddard on a one year deal. And given that Ed Rusher, Jalen Phillips left for the Panthers on a four year 120 million dollar contract, the thinking is the Eagles could absorb the full dead cap charge in 2026 if they choose to do so. Regardless, the thinking is that Brown will indeed be gone before week one. Another source explained the Eagles will be careening towards a potential cap mess in 2027 if they keep AJ Brown through 2026. So it's a foregone conclusion inevitable. Yeah. That Brown's going to get dealt and the Patriots are the team waiting there for them as it's characterized by Pro Football Talk over the weekend. Matt is in Rhode Island. Hello, Matt. Hey, what's up guys? So they did obviously real good with digs coming off the injury last year. So like Vera Tucker and Dobbs, that's what they're going to start doing, right? So I mean, I think it's, I think one of those, you know, they're going to, they're going to have to deal with that type of player missing a lot of games. But I just want to say the obvious, like it really rolled nice for them to hit on a playmaker
in like the draft and the third, fourth round, like wide receiver tight end. Like eventually, please hit on one of those things. You have a lot of pictures here. All right. Thanks guys. Yeah, look, I'd like a playmaker, whether it's a tight end wide receiver, what have you? I mean, I'm hoping for AJ Brown via trade, but I'd love one in the draft. Still need to upgrade tight end. I mean, they signed a tight end, but I feel like he's more of a blocker. And so when you're looking at whether it's a free agent or even in the draft and see, that would be one that I think would be pretty intriguing. You know, they haven't really taken a stab at like a highly drafted tight end in a while, right? You have to go back to like, Ossi Ossi and Keen in the third round, right? I think as far as like two, first two days of the draft, but that wouldn't be a bad one. You know, Austin Hooper's gone. You could definitely upgrade that spot. Am I missing something with dobs in his injuries? We talked about this before Nick. He said, no, he really doesn't miss a ton of time. Maybe he's missing within games, but okay, almost always comes back. 13, 17, 13, 16. Like I'm not saying he's like a model of health, but he's never, he's never missed more than like a month. Yeah, as far as I can tell.
Maybe it's like a fantasy thing where he's like questionable a lot, but he actually does play or packers, receivers in general, I feel like are in and out of the lineup. But Christian Watson misses a lot of games, Jerry, like maybe those, I don't know, but you're right. The second they signed dobs, I kind of had the same thought and then looking at it, you're like, I know he seems to be out there. Well, to Matt's point though, Vera Tucker has tons of poor game bonuses. That was for sure real. The numbers came out yesterday on dobs, and it's really more like a two-year deal for Romeo dobs, not really a four-year, $80 million deal. It's really a two-year deal, but he does have a good amount of per-game roster bonuses as well, 100K a game, up to 1.70 year in all four years of the deal. So a lot of it financially, he would be incentivized to stay on the field. And we'll see if that makes a difference for him. The game he missed last year was week eight team and they sat everybody. Yeah, and he played over 70% of the snaps in all but two of those games. Yeah, that sounds healthy. Like, I mean, he's got way better injury history than Vera Tucker and I'm close. Right. And so, exactly.
And when that puts him in the same breath, maybe he misses chunks within a game. I don't pretend to watch every single packer's game. But to me, I feel like he has a bad rap on, like, missing a lot of time. He's out there, it feels like that. He played in, I'm sorry, one game he's sat because the whole team sat at the end of the count, and there were only two games where he didn't reach 70% of the snaps last year. 63 and 62% of the snap. Okay, so he played 60 plus percent of the snaps in every game he was available in except week eight team when they sat everybody down. 23% of the 17 was 57%. What am I missing with the injuries? He's missed like eight games in four years. I've done sound that bad. 617, 7779, 793, 7, we got all your phone calls there.
