I think caucus New Jersey has never looked better and lock out lock out support. Yes, lock out with the T-shirts on production. That's a good. Lock out support. That's nice. That's nice. You know what I did last night? This is true. To try to get a little good luck in the Jones household for the Red Sox last night. Lucas, Lucas threw on his ramen can't-finity Jersey last night. Nice. Which I don't know. We're going to have to sell that somewhere. I threw it on my baseball and jerzy with the jokely on the back. No, just like they chose a morning night. They didn't win. But I did rock the Jersey last night to try to turn it around. Well, I'll tell you what, the science and math and all our analytics show that that usually works. But as we find out, analytics aren't always science and sometimes it doesn't work. But I would think that if you keep doing that, you're going to have good times more than you're going to have bad times. I think it's enough. Rob, were you as shocked as I was that not only do they take the starter out early again in my humble opinion,
but it's at the exact same time in the game and they turn to the exact same reliever in one Eric Miller. I, yeah, I was, I'll go back to the first one, the paid to all you want. And I think the thing that surprised me initially was, well, you're bringing in Eric Miller, who, you know, he was making Miller for about, you know, about the his first month. And then he was just the opposite the last month. You don't know what you're going to get and you are bringing them in at this time where it's the most important time. You have, you're on the verge of having a one nothing game and came slip out of the game. And this is a route you're going. And then you look into it a little bit more like that really made no sense. I mean, you're, you're, you're totally, it's your stud. He's your game when starter. He just, he can talk about what Ben Rice did to it back ago, but I know that one is bad. I go, he got him out. So that didn't make any sense to me. And then, you know, really after that game, you do hear the rumblings of like, oh man,
this was, this is totally analytically driven. This was, you know, they get together before the game and they look at scenarios. And this was a scenario and everything else. Again, nothing coming from the team. This is just murmurs around the world of baseball. And then you get to last night and it's probably even worse. Like 70 pitches for as sunny Gray points out the best guy in the American League when it comes to getting through the third time in the order. And you're going back to the guy who certainly looked like the same sort of struggling picture that we saw so much in September the night before. Like, yeah, none of it really made sense to me. Okay, it's clear sunny Gray who you just mentioned and Wilson and Charis, maybe others are pissed. Who are they pissed at? I think they're pissed at the decision makers. I don't think they're, I don't know if this is, listen, I mean, I think they're probably pissed across the board. But, you know, I think that there is definitely is a perception that this was in Jeff.
Hey, Gray, you little decided to do this, right? Like, this is the difference is if you want to talk about the different sort of scenario. Well, you know, Theo in that front office was not on board with what Gray, you little did. This front office and the pitching, the pitching group, what seemingly was on board for what happened. So I think that they look at it that way. They, I think that they could say in and chat tracing and come out and say no, it's by decision. But I got a pretty good feeling that those players, including Wilson, Contreras and sunny Gray, don't necessarily believe that it was just one man's decision there. So I think that they're in a mosque probably goes to a few different people. So I guess like on a daily today, how much of the blame can be put on chat Tracy? Because what I also found really a bit confusing was in the post game, sunny Gray was even asked point blank. Like, what was, did you have a conversation with chat trace?
And he's like, no, so it might not even be coming from him. But one of the roles of the manager would be you would think communication. And you have your best picture from the entire season. It's taken out early. He's mad about it. You don't even talk to him about it. So I feel like, Brezel might have been the one pulling the strings here. But I feel like chat Tracy also had a terrible series. Yeah, well, listen, I mean, it comes back to, and this is the problem for chat Tracy is that, you know, he's going to, he's going to take this like because he's not going to be like, oh, no, no, no, it was we got together for three hours. And we saw this scenario and we're going to let this play out. No, he was the one who walked out. He was the one that made the pitching decision. In terms of not talking to him, I mean, it's kind of a little bit different than this. Like it's chaotic. Everyone's like getting their head around these season ending and everything else. I don't know if that just surprised me, especially when, you know, a guy being sunny with sort of trying to lower his heart rate a little bit about the thing, even though I don't know if you did a good job of it with that, with that meeting with the media.
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me, maybe, but, but it's I don't come back to it guys. I just don't see any way around it that this wasn't a, hey, this all get together and play this out and see what's going to happen. And this implemented that way, you know, it's funny because I don't know if you were going to ask this, you know, especially Adam about the, oh, well, should they have committed to to chat Tracy, you know, before the playoffs because something like this could happen. Well, here's the difference is that, you know, if this does happen and you didn't commit to them, well, knowing that you were, you were on board for all this, like how do you fire that guy? How easily, yeah, easy, you're not committed to it. If he's not, if he didn't get the extension picked up, he's gone, isn't he? Well, no, but my point is that my point is that like those guys have their guy to implement their plan. Like that's the thing. Yeah, that's easy. They could hire me to do that, Brad, like I got like that. Get hire me to be like go get, go get sunny gray out of the gate.
They told him, I'm the trade move. He bets they still fired high bloom. Yeah, no, I understand like, yeah, but that was three years later. Okay, but he's an interim manager. Do you think if he had not, and I know what you're saying about he's willing to do what you say to do. But if you lose in this fashion, you don't think they scapegoat him. You don't think they fire him? I would like to think that they don't scapegoat him. I don't think they fire him because again, I think that this was part of the sort of, okay, you're going to go, you're going to have our plan. And we're going to implement our plan. You're going to be the guy who does the plan along with all the other good stuff that you do. You know, but this is this is if you want to look at this way too. This is why Alex Corus is managing. I mean, this isn't happening with Alex Corra right or wrong. Alex Corra, you know, when he got into the playoffs, he obviously was really, really, he wasn't going to get to the playoffs this year. No, no, no, but you know, but but my point is that like there, there was a feeling of, okay, this is the partnership that we have.
And it worked a lot this year. It didn't work in the playoffs, but there wasn't going to be that same partnership without Corra and there probably wasn't going to be that same partnership with a lot of managers who have gone into the playoffs and said, all right, give me the information, but now I'm going to manage a game as it unfolds, which is exactly what Corra did. I mean, this is you can you can criticize Corra and say it's not going to get the playoffs or whatever, but we all knew that the feathering Alex Corra's cap with that he was a great postseason man. Yeah, I'm not I'm not arguing with that. I don't think Corra would have gotten to the postseason, but if he got there, he would have done a better job than Tracy in these two games. I'm not arguing with that. Brad Fo, listening to Sunday Gray last night, it's pretty clear he's gone. That's my opinion. I don't know if you share that opinion or not, but it's pretty clear he's gone. My question is, is he gone because of what happened last night or was he already gone? I think that partly, we still don't know if he's going to retire as good as he was. Correct me if I'm wrong. He made it pretty clear that he has more left in the tank. I thought in a separate answer last night.
Yeah, he's like, I think I showed pretty well this year. Yeah, I mean, I mean, I did show very well. I mean, I just I said that you know, still chance of him retiring. It is crazy because like, what he can make and what he can still do. I still have a real hard time believing he's going to retire because of all that. You know, there has always been they go, well, he wants to be down south. He has this option now to do that, to go maybe to Atlanta or someplace like that. But to answer your question, like, I don't think this helped. Like, I don't think this helped at all. I don't know before this happened how much of animosity he had toward this whole group because it seemed like it was working out pretty well for him. But on the biggest stage, when you don't get that many kicked at the can, that at that age anymore for Sunday Gray. And you put yourself in position to do some really, really good things. Then, you know, that that's things, man, like that hurts and I can see where he would hold it against them.
Do you think part of Wilson Contreras is frustration and is like, you know, zip in his lips and his stuff. I don't want to say like a lot of the clearly directed at the decision makers, like you were saying earlier. Is there any blame or side eye towards Roman Anthony or some of his other teammates potentially? I don't think so. I know that, you know, there was that there was that one sound bite of him saying, you know, they go, well, why did the offense go this way? I like to say, but I can't. I kind of took that as the philosophy, the hitting philosophy. And because, and here's the reason why I take it that way is because in that meeting with the media last night, it was sort of that was the theme, that was a tone. And I'll come back to the Roman and Trevor Story thing. It's like, well, you know, I think they are popular guys in that clubhouse. And I also think that they were pretty good for the most part when they return on a team that desperately needed good players, good hitters.
The fact is that you had Mickey Gass for, you know, who Mickey Gass for in Jammai Jones in the last month of the season just had hit the wall. I mean, they weren't that good. They needed Roman Anthony and Trevor Story. So I just took it as more of, well, hey, you know, I don't know like what were you doing philosophy wise, but it didn't work. Okay. And a separate answer. He did bring up they need veterans and they need experience. And so I think there were a couple of potential jabs anyway at younger players. What is what is the plan moving forward with Roman Anthony? Is he going to need a surgery? Is that going to set him back? What's the plan? Yeah, I don't think they know the plan. I mean, it would be a bad luck if they needed surgery now because they've gone through this the entire time. And if you needed surgery, you should have already had it. He wouldn't commit one way or the other. And, you know, I'll just I've said it a million times. I'll say it again. You know, it's a hand thing. You baseball player. It is what it is. I don't I don't say oh, how dare Roman Anthony not play. It's a hand thing.
If you if your hand isn't right, then you can't swing the bat for whatever reason. And if you can't swing the bat, then he's not going to play well. So I don't to answer your question out of my guy. I don't know where it goes from here. But whatever they have that what they the first order of business on today is figuring out what you do with that hand. How you get Roman Anthony healthy because like it or not, like the fact of the matter is that he is if not the most important one of the most important guys in this franchise is the offseason need the same as it was last year. Somebody that can hit a lot of home runs. Yeah, well, yeah, because that's the thing, right? Where did we land? We landed at a worse spot like in in Craig, Rezlo had a really good offseason. We thought he had a pretty good trade deadline and maybe you know you get a healthy, shirtless meat and healthy, ugly, Russian or whatever and both in contrast is back. But the results business and you didn't get results. You didn't hit home runs. You didn't do you know you in the last month of the season, you had the worst offense in baseball.
So you have to figure out a way to do that a way to fix that and it means it means doubling down financially, whatever it is. But you said you were going to find home run and you didn't find enough of them. Okay, he is Rob Bradford baseball isn't boring. Lockouts are definitely boring. No, you can follow him on Twitter at Brad fo Rob. We appreciate the time. Thanks so much. Yeah, guys, well, thank you all you all season long is always a blast. Always something that looks for two and yeah, it's good time. Yeah, baseball baseball. I grabbed indeed. We'll check him with Brad fo again at this point. Sure. Some point this offseason for sure. If the Red Sox do anything and there's no lockout. I see. Unfortunately, we're going to have to come up with some sort of like lockout update, sounder. It might be like five seconds during grab bag. We need to keep people up to date. How about scoring on the lockout baseball back? No, is the no everything. Yeah, we do daily question. We can just treat it. That maybe the new daily question. Yeah, six, one, seven, seven, seven, seven, ninety, three, seven, bunch you waiting patiently on the red socks, which we'll get to will go on the clock at high noon with our offseason plans for the red socks. So stay tuned for that plus a key for badness at 1245 on the way next though we have to get to drake May placed on the injury report yesterday.
Even though everyone's like his shoulders fine, all of a sudden he pops up on the injury report. What's up with that? We'll get to it next. I tell you something Curtis, these road island people go hard on a Friday morning. Go up way to go. You guys are out. You're all in everybody. We're at we are at Newport craft brewery and it is a Patriots Friday, Rob Nickovich will join us in a moment, but right now Wiggy has a little cash to give away. Yeah, you know, it's fan cash Friday. Yeah, Rob Nickovich. Good morning. Good morning. Nice to see you. Great to see you this morning. You are.
You're here with a vehicle. Yes, I'm here with the dirty martini. It's a 1970 C 10 built by classic car studio. Okay, very cool truck on a chassis motor all the fun stuff. I think we have it. If you're watching the show on Twitch or on YouTube this morning, and you should be. I think Mitch can show you that is one of your many cars. Yeah, you don't have as many as J Leno. Yeah, wow. Okay. Yeah. J Leno has 200. 200. Well, I got you know, different salary levels. Yes, J Leno to myself. He made 30 million in 1990. I get the dirty martini. It's like it all of that's it. Wow. Yeah, that's a low ride. Yeah, it is a little rider. Yeah, you know, I like that. You could put the the top button buttoned up. Okay. I like it. Does it have the suspension that is the suspension we lifted up or is it stable? It's all stay a little. How many miles per gallon? About 20. All right. Yeah. Yeah. 10 speed.
Yeah. Yeah. I think it's really a little bit more than the other bikes that we've got. All right. Big one for this football team on Sunday. Huge. Yeah. I think if I mean, obviously it's early in the season, but from the trajectory of a division game, you're playing Buffalo in Buffalo. Potentially the toughest team that you're going to face in your division. I right now think it's probably the biggest challenge for the Patriots to date. And this game is going to be the biggest one for their season moving forward. Just the way it looks. I would say that the optics of how the game looks and are they sloppy? Are they having some penalties? Are they, you know, competitive, right? Last week we were not competitive. So it's tough when you watch a game. That's not competitive. And then you have multiple penalties, uncharacteristic penalties. I mean, you can't have taunting penalties when you're down 23 points, right? It just doesn't work like you should just walk off the field and go in the locker room at that point. I mean, it just doesn't happen. So. I think this is a huge game for the whole team. Right. How important is if a Drake made it is, especially go out there and show like, okay, you can be the drake made Drake made of last year. What we saw?
there what we saw. Listen, I think at football's a mental game, we know it's physical, but it's more mental when it comes to that position, especially you have to have confidence. You got to go out there and fly around and make plays. So I think honestly, it's just go out there and do what you didn't high school. Go out there, do what you didn't college. Just go have fun. Don't let all this pressure and all the outside noise crush you. Just go out there and play football. Maybe we start the game. If I was OC, I'd say, hey, we're running a go right on the first play of the game. Just chuck it. Don't throw it in double coverage. I'm saying. Instead of just, you know, the, hey, P in 10 run, P in 10 run, the third and seven play action. But you think he has the confidence, Josh to say, you know what? Hell, what a goal. Just go out there. Oh, you got to lose. Like you said, he might lead to a turn over. Do you think Josh McDaniels has that confidence in Drake to just go, you have to after we saw last year, you got to have confidence in the kid. So, you know, for me, the interceptions this year have been, yeah, in Seattle, you got to
protect the three points. Last week, you don't throw that interception in the red zone, protect the three points. Like there's parts of the game that you have to look at and say, when do I take a little risk and when do I just take the three, right? And you get that with experience. So Drake's what 24 years old. He's still a kid. He's, he's, he's, you know, Josh Allen's 30 years old. If you watch Josh Allen his first couple of years, he made a lot of silly throws too. Like last week, what do you throw three picks? Like Josh Allen still throws the ball into coverage. He's gonna risk the football. So sometimes you got a risk to get the biscuit, you know, when you talk, when you talk about it being so much mental, is he like, is he, is he over thinking everything and no, but I mean, it also doesn't help when you only have probably a yard of separation. So, you know, you look at the receiving core, you go from AJ Brown being your normal one to Hollins being your number one. I mean, how old's owns back? I want to say 20, yeah, 28, 29 something like that. It's just like
the 30 year old receiver, right? It's not like you have a young explosive. But you know, the crazy one. The number one. The one thing that you three, three Mac hall three. I was retired. I was retired. I was changing diapers. But anyway, listen, if you watched like last night, didn't even watch that Thursday night game. Yes. You see some of the explosiveness that they have the Browns offensively, you look at some of the receivers. They're fast. You're like, geez, it's just catching run plays. The stealer, same thing. They do a little missile motion and they toss the football into the receiver scores. Like, you know, there's some aspects of you have to game plan accordingly to what you have on the field. And then there's some limitations to what you have on the field, right? That's the, is this Sean Watson surprising you know, he's not surprising me because I knew he's talented. You know what, you know, what surprising is mentality in the preseason to what he's doing on the field right now in the regular season. Right. If you watch him in the preseason, he was acting like he didn't want to be there. And he was calling out the fan base and walking away from interviews and not really trying in the preseason. Then
he goes out there in a regular regular season. He did miss some throws last night that could have cost him the game. But he looks pretty good. It does seem like all the guys are still supporting Drake. But how many weeks do you give him if he keeps making bone headed plays that are costing them the game at what point do you lose a locker room? I mean, it's tough when you put your team in the position that they were in last year, right? Like you as a teammate try to support your teammates. Like, there's things that happen to guys off the field that we don't know about. You know, there's things that happen to guys that on the field physically that we don't know about, right? You're dealing with something. And the one crazy thing about football is you try not to let anyone know about that, right? Because if I was a linebacker and I say, Hey, my grind is bothering me and I need surgery right now. I'm not going to let anyone know about that because they could affect their. Hey, let's go after Nickovich. He's hurt, right? So I think football is such a mind game. When it comes to your teammates, you're not going to lose confidence in Drake. I mean, I you look at him and what he has done so far in his career. He has so much upside,
so much raw talent, so much arm talent, the ability to get out of trouble with his legs. Like all those things coming into like one thing, you're like, dang, that guys are going to be a great football player. We just need to figure out how do we give him the confidence. So the way he answered the sort of shoulder injury question, may not be excuse making. It may be he's maybe he's dealing with something. But like he said, every single football player is dealing with something, especially as the season progresses and we get into like week 10, like everybody's going to be injured, everybody at a certain aspect of your game is going to be a little bit hobbled. So for him, what's the most important thing he's got is right shoulder. So you got to make sure that that's good. Do you think like it and we had this kind of conversation with Ty when he was on it. I know it might be difficult for you. Maybe not because when you start to look at a defense and the defense becomes like, all right, we have to carry the team weekend and week out. The offense is not living up to the expectations. I've been on teams where offensively, we weren't
living up to expectations and the defensive guys were Rob's defense carried their quarterback every single. Our defense let up a lot of yards. You guys were probably talking trash. I'm like, well, they're giving about 400 yards, but they didn't score on the red zone. So at the end of the day, the friction and just like it can cause when like one seat, one side of the ball feels like, all right, we're like carrying. Well, you got to stop the run before you can, you know, you can't have teams running for five yards of carry. So you going into this game, they're going to have to stop the run early because if you can't stop the run, then it sets up all your play action, all the boot game, all the quarterback rollouts, all the stuff that gives you trouble as a secondary defender. What, what did you, what was your reaction to seeing how rabble reacted to Drake May saying his shoulder was an issue because we said that we sat there on Monday morning, and I'm sitting across from him and I don't know who asked. Might have been Greg or Wigs. And rabble was like, looked like you told them that he had 10 heads. Like, how is that possible? But he was unaware of the quarterback shoulder injury. I mean, I guess is a former
number 50. I could just return the question to you and say, how were you feeling about that situation? That's a great question. I was shocked. It seems to happen. But, you know, I think when you look at your quarterback and anybody, usually it, and this is just from my experience, the trainers and the head coach, like they have meetings, right? And it's very important how those meetings go. And usually there's a little piece of paper and, you know, you see the head coach is right, stuff down, head trainer walk up and tell them something in their ear. They, okay, because you have to prepare the guy that potentially might be playing in the place of who that guy is. And people don't realize, you know, everyone in this room right now, if we had somebody on punk team, we had somebody on the starting defense, we had somebody on kickoff, we go through all these things like, hey, first team defense stand up. Boom, hey, Rob goes down. Who's going in for Rob? And hope, and maybe that affects the punk team because maybe that person is going to have to play a lot more snaps. And maybe it's a guy that we need to back up to the backup to go stand and go in front of. So you have to be aware of everybody that's injured because you have to prepare
the person that's ready behind them. Yeah, there's no way that he wouldn't have been aware. I mean, in my experience in playing for 20 years, like usually that's the communication is like, so you're saying it's like how Curtis is always ready in case I go down during a show. Yeah, exactly. So, you know, I'm actually, you're close to kick-giv, I'm trying to take your job for it. But I'd say like in general, that is like the communication there is always very spot on. And it has to be because you're trying to get the roster ready for anything happens. I know you got to get your, I got to get to the car show. Are you going to win something? I don't probably not because it's going to be a patinaed C10 truck. There's going to be for our reason lambo there. But it's all good. But you might, I put a sear stucker suit on. I know that's. Oh, kidding. They should all do that. They should all come categories for that like classic, you know, 60 to 80 trucks. You know, I mean, the truck should be next to a Ferrari. Yeah. I won't make more people want the truck
than the Ferrari. I mean, I know that maybe they do. Good luck. Maybe they do. Who do you like Sunday? Buffalo. No, I'm not going to say Buffalo. I'm saying the Patriots because it's a must win game. All right. I know it's going to be a tough game. It's going to be a close game. All right. Here we go. It's going to be a tough game. But this is one of those you got to you circle this one on the schedule and say this is what a must a must win for us. The finding moment. You're the finding moment. All right. Good luck. That is Rob Nickovich and Newport Rhode Island. And we'll be right back with Hill notes next. Oh, we got to give some money away. Oh, we do. Okay. Go ahead. Yeah. Yeah. We got online over that. Can't see my glasses. It looks like Christopher Christopher. Congratulations. Thank you very much. Well, Chris, don't enjoy that $100 fan cash and spend it well. Okay. Good games this week to bet on. Yeah. It's a rough. Yeah. I've got to get in. Yeah. I don't know if I get a big bang out. Hopefully we got a good Sunday. All right. Yeah.

It is 937 WEI rich, certainly, 10 layered, a three-time Super Bowl champion Ted Johnson. You could call us at 617779-73937. Our buddy Tommy Curin. This is not talking heads. Where's the current intro? It's fair. I've listened. It's weezer, which, by the way, I didn't realize was in town the other day. Right on the note, you got it. Tommy Curin, the man who is filling in

We are doing fantastic. And my shoulder is fine. Thank you for asking. I want to ask you about Drake May's shoulder. So after what has been a very strange couple of days, where many people in the media have been asking Drake about his shoulder and there's been many non-answers. And then Mike Vrable, I believe, on this very station straight up said, there's no problem with his shoulder. And then I believe another of one of your colleagues was reporting that people inside of Foxboro are like, why is he going to put, why is he not saying things about a shoulder? Why is he not saying it's okay? A shoulder is fine. And then all of a sudden yesterday, Drake May's right shoulder listed on the injury report. What the hell is going on, Tommy Curin?
Well, my best guess is he finally went to them and said, yeah, shoulder hurts. All right, good. We'll put you on the injury report with that. Can you practice? Yeah. Does the brother how you throw? No. Do you just think? Yeah. So, okay, so you think that it was most likely Drake who was like, why would he do that? Let me just ask you that. Why would he go to them and ask them to put him on that report? I'm just, and I'm just hypothetically trying to imagine, look, I don't think Vrable's going to sit there with a straight face and adamantly deny that there's a shoulder issue. If Drake had come to him and said, my shoulder's bothering to the point where I need treatment and I should be listed on the injury report. So whether it's to appease him because he clearly would not come straight out and say, my shoulder doesn't hurt at all. You said it's not affecting him. Does this decision making that's impacting him? So I think the effort by him to
maintain that there is something amiss made them say, okay, we'll put you on the injury report then. I just don't think the level of subterfuge imagined is really what's going on, but I don't think that he did any favors to Vrable by not saying anything to him so that Mike didn't look away to run as if he was trying to hide something. McDaniel said today that he got tinged in the game. Kind of fascinating. He can't hear it. He's back to the old days with Bella check. You know, just maybe playing games with the injury report. But anyway, Tom, I'm curious what you think besides the play of Drake, May that it do you think maybe the second biggest concern at this point might be just the injuries that are piling up on this team. They got more guys on IR three games in the season that they had all of last season. And the list of guys that are limited this week is long. Death going to be tested just your thoughts on that with this was team with the that the issues it has. Yeah, no, I think it's going to make it incredibly
difficult for them to dig out. Make and have a turnover free game this week and be efficient, make all the right calls and decisions. But that's not necessarily going to help with three months zones out. Perhaps Christian Gonzalez out. Craig Woodson out. Carlton Davis has been dealing with his shoulder. So correct. So all those things on down the line going against Josh Allen make it difficult for this team to go in against the schedule they have. And just wave a wand and everything's going to be fine. You know what I'm saying? It's just I don't want to be a doomsayer, but a healthy Patriots team with Drake may playing well was imagined to be a by me nine and eight ten and seven type of team. Yeah, with injuries and Drake may playing like you know, not a Drake may. You have to ratchet down your expectations. Speaking of Duma's Tom, great Paul on your ex account. It's a quick slants Paul. Oh, thank you. Given Drake May's drooping
play has a single centilla of doubt entered your mind about whether he's the long term franchise quarterback for the Patriots. 64% of your rabid followers have at least a centilla of doubt Tom. Are you surprised by that? I'm not because I think I have a centilla as well and I really believe that you're not going to find. Franchise quarterback, I think needs to be defined a little bit. We're talking the other night. Michael Hawley was talking on on DST and said he's not a franchise quarterback. Well, how do you define that? Because I don't think that he is a franchise quarterback is one you can build around and say this is our guy. We're not looking to supplant him. We're not looking to replace him. So that can be pretty wide. But a true elite quarterback, which I thought Drake may was going to trend toward being, is one who wins games for you on a consistent basis. One who raises raises the level of all votes. So I still think he's a franchise quarterback. I just wonder more if he's going to be in a weak quarterback the way we thought or if this is going to be an
experience that is going to last, you know, for the rest of the decade. I he's on one of those Jags again. So I have a centilla of doubt, but I'm still overwhelmingly convinced that there will be no other quarterback here playing and starting before the end of the decade. Can I just follow up on that? I'm like, if it's if he's not a franchise quarterback, you know, and I'm kind of with you on this time, what do you think is the reason he's not? What is it that's holding him back from being that franchise quarterback? Is it because it's skill? Is there's it between the years? What do you think? No, it's not skill. It's not skill. It's it's a determination that he wants to play the game a particular way. And he's talked about I'm a gunslinger. I like to take chances. That's who I am. That's what I want to do. And the Patriots have tolerated that tremendously in terms of Josh and Mike Boce and look, we don't want to rain them in so that we do away with the great place that he can make off scheduling off platform. But if the gunslinger Drake takes over too often during games
when sensible Drake needs to be present, then you start to sit there and question it. And you know, the question that we will be building into is the season progresses. And we as we get into next off season is, is he and Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels come up for eligibility to get new deals? Do you want to put $70 million in front of him right now if the season doesn't improve? And it's going to improve. But if it's, you know, a sea level season from him. All right, Tommy Karen, I want to go back to the beginning of something you said because I let's let's just for a moment, just like say or pretend that he did exactly what you were talking about where Drake may went to Mike Vrable and said, Hey, my shoulder is injured. Please put it on the injury report. If that indeed happened, would that make you think any different about his leadership or toughness? No, no, not in the least. No, and again, just reassure it. That was a hypothetical
exact lot of my posterior total. How did it happen? Right. No, I think that I think that given his inability to articulate that he was fine, they spend all day together. Did somebody at one point say to him, What's up with your shoulder? Is there an issue like a thing yesterday? They get dinged. Well, how bad? I'm playing. Okay, but is it hard enough to put on the injury report? I would imagine it's more like that. But I don't think that I don't think there is a toughness issue and I don't think there is a mental toughness issue in terms of leadership. I think there's a decision-making issue, which obviously goes to a mental aspect as well. But I think it's a really good leader. I think it's a really good teammate. And I think he is physically tough, which he has exhibited since he's been here. So I'll be going back to something else you said, Tom, because you always sparked the conversation in a great way. So if it's not, if it's not, he's taken notes by the way. I'm looking at this. Don't have good stuff. Okay. So you said it's not his skill. It's his style.
If that's true, do you think going over to what Orlovsky said earlier in the week, there's some kind of an alignment issue with either the coordinator or the coach down the road where, hey, they decide at some point in the upper levels of the organization, gunslinger drake needs to come out. Let's get somebody who accentuates that. That's a hypothetical that I can't fill in the blanks on. If after six games, he's two touchdowns and 12 picks and several more fumbles, then yeah, you can't sacrifice the good of the team because he's the third overall pick in the run-up for MVP. Certainly you would make that decision. I just can't envision that continuing that way. You said alignment and you have to cars out of alignment. You go get it fixed. And if you're, it was really telling and play this if you can find it. Two different things yesterday in Brabill's press conference. One, he was asked about game and he goes, how about this? Did that play Pittsburgh's first play last week? They threw a four-yard pass to Warren and he went 30 yards
because they're two, I think he can met Caffin somebody else, obliterated the people in front of them. That's that scheme. That's the scheme we want. That's what we want to be. And that's not an alignment with I think what Drake looks in the mirror and sees himself as being. He's going to have to, you know, he's going to have to part his hair differently for a little while. I like it. All right. T.C. Do they have any chance in Hades? This Sunday against the the bills. I mean, James Cook terrifies me and I'm worried about the front seven just injuries and that's not playing good. Just your thoughts on the game and do they have a chance at all to get a win there? I would say they have a puncher's answer if they were watching well. They have one touchdown. Is it one offensive touchdown? Correct. Yep. That's right. Yeah. That's not what Donald should look at. So I can't even say that they're punchers right now. As I mentioned earlier, the absence of convales potentially. Woodson, Carlton Davis,
dinged up. Drainmont Jones, how Morgan Moses was far more on the injury report. Was he? He was. Yeah. He wasn't there today. Yeah. I mean, as we all know, it's the guys who take the field. It's not the uniform and the expectations. We put on the field that day. Buffalo's average in 33.7 points per game. I think that Alan has fixed rushing touchdowns. He's got two yards less than Remondory Stevens and so far on the ground. So it's just not a great batch up. It's a bad time. Real quick, Tom, do you know what play in Jacksonville's Drake might have been dinged on? Was there one that like stood out? No, I have not gone back and looked, but I'm really, you know, intrigued what it is. Yeah. We did come out of the game as we know. But it's again, it invites to me this is a side show, but it is the franchise quarterback
and he does have a shoulder issue and there is the mixed messaging on, okay, what exactly is going on? But on the other hand, too, it's like stopping on the side of the road during the journey. I'm looking at a snail for two on whatever. What? What? What? Oh, it's fascinating. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's fascinating. Because now you don't know whether they're placating Drake made by putting it on there or they've been hiding an injury for a while. You don't find that fascinating? No, no, no, I, no, it's funny, it's funny because, you know, I was along with Trenty last night and she's like, you know, I said, well, fans want to know how he's going to get out. She goes, no, fans want to know this and I didn't say it, but my thought is I just consume sports differently and I don't think I could sum it correctly. I compared to other, I don't think I could sum it correctly because I, I'm, by far in the minority when it comes to saying, ah, whatever, he's got to hurt shoulders on the injured list says it doesn't bother him until the next thing. I don't know, maybe it's just
getting old. Yeah, maybe it is, but I mean, for, for, you know, you know, you're writing about it. I'm automatically agree. Sure. Listen, I guess we're all just trying to figure out how this guy went from being second and MVP voting to being like literally the worst quarterback in the NFL. It's basically, for a guy who started three games, it's very, very tough and I'd, right now, I'll take any theory because none of it makes sense. It is. Yes, it is. I can cure your cure. Good, good, good. All right. Finally, one last question. If you were, if you were Josh McDaniel's, like what would be your game plan just to get Drake's confidence back this week? Are you going to have him try to sling it or are you going to just try to get small victories? You know, like, like what would you do if you mentally were trying to just get him to a place where he feels good again? That's the problem he has. Efton Schism, Kyle Williams and um, Demario Douglas is three of his receivers. They're all little and Drake has an accuracy issue right now. Matt Collins should not be your number one receiver. God bless him. He is
accepting that role. Hunter Henry is not very good right now. Yeah, I would imagine he must be dealing with something, but I was looking at something from a site called Pro Football Network. He's 42nd out of 42 tight ends. Oh, jeez. Three three games. And they don't have any other tight ends. So there's really no remedy except okay, we're going to do what we do. Hopefully it works out this week. Yeah, run the ball. I guess. Use them legs. Drake. Oh, man, right. I know. It's it is it is strange and obviously this couldn't happen in a worse time with this bills game here, but Tommy Kuren, great stuff. We appreciate you coming on with us and admiring in our in our curiosity and misery when it comes to Drake's play. And thank you for humoring us when it comes to the conspiracy theories that are out there. Damn it. We're just all trying to figure this out together. No, people are curious about it. I just I I feel like when someone says something and this is maybe me being naive and not learning over the course of time either. If he says it's not bothering him
and it's and Raeble says he didn't know and there was nothing bothering him. I take them at face value now. Maybe I'm a sap. Probably I am because they're not going to tell you everything all the time. Yes, but if that's if that's their story and they're sticking to it, I'm not going to put one bear naked play ball and say tell me the truth. All right, Tommy Kuren, next time I promise you will have talking heads when you come on. Absolutely. They're on well, no, I'm not going to say that. Okay. Oh, yeah, yeah, I know they they they reunited for a briefly. I saw that. I saw the picture. Yes, but I can't I can't mention a competitor, but they were it's not a competitor. We are on serious, my friend. We are on there. Okay. Well, they're on serious talking heads because like I told you, the 50th anniversary of talking at 77 not bad. Not bad. I know I am a fan. I am a fan. I'm not a fan of squeeze, but I am a fan of the talking heads. I will mention every time we're every week. Every week. Every week. I like it. Please. All right, Tommy Kuren, thanks for coming out buddy. Appreciate it. All right, 6177797937. I really like the elite quarterback, franchise
quarterback. That gets deep in a war mold. I enjoy it. I just find it weird that Tommy said. I would like to let's do that. And when we get back to Tommy Kuren's theory that Drake may went to for able and said put my shoulder on the injury report. That's good too. That's I don't know, man. I thought that's kind of weird. That doesn't seem like so much on what do you mean? He doesn't like drama. That's that's excellent. That that first question kind of got me go really your quarterbacks going and saying, please put me on the injury report because people think I'm not playing well and I need an excuse. Appreciate it. Rich, Ken, how are we doing today? We are doing good. We are confused by what we're seeing from a guy who is second. I know the second and voting for MVP. We've gone over obviously. We've tried to dissect the body and figure out what's happening. But let me just ask you, like how concerned are the Patriots internally about Drake Mays play right now? I think they're probably more confounded than concerns. We'll be my guests because you're talking
about a guy that is an elite talent. That was second in the MVP voting last year. We know how good he is. He seems like he's lost his confidence so far this year. That's what it looks like out there. It doesn't look like he's playing with the same confidence out there. It's their job to get it back. See how they can get it back. Again, it's amazing that somebody can be that good last year and then be off this year. So just a little confusing. I don't know if they're worried, but probably just determined to get them back on track. How's his shoulder at him to the best of your knowledge? Is there an issue there? I've not heard that there is, but again, as long as he's playing like this, people are going to float all kinds of theories, physical, mental, whatever they may be. We're going to keep speculating because he's just not playing at the level that people are used to seeing play at. Adam, it's obviously desperate times here in Patriot land.
It's a lot of people trying to figure out with AJ Brown being injured, can he get help from the receiving court? It was interesting. Tyree Kill posted on Twitter, some scriptic message about wanting to play or maybe ready for some cold weather. So people are thinking maybe that's the page. Does Tyree Kill, does he have a role in the Patriots? Not only in the Patriots, but just anywhere in the NFL based on his off-the-field stuff. My understanding is that he's not close at this point in time. I think there have been talks with teams. I don't know how many teams. I don't think that he's close to a deal at this moment. I think at some point this season, he determines, come play again. We'll see if anyone that happens. But I'm not thinking that there is a signing that's imminent. Like that. It almost seemed like he was trying to imply. Adam, does it seem like the Patriots with AJ Brown out temporarily might try to bring in somebody else, whether it be, listen, Odele Beckham, I know, is floating out there. There's a couple of other names. Do you think they would bring in
some help potentially while they're waiting for AJ Brown to return? I actually think they're kind of deep at the position. Maybe not as deep as they once were having traded booty to Houston and having a lot of stage of Brown. But you still have out there right now some players capable of making plays, pop Douglas, Mac Collins. It's not ideal. But I don't know that you're going to get some help off the street that's going to be an upgrade over what you have right now. Adam, back to a Drake for a second. Our Morning Host, Greg Hill had reported today or had relayed that he had heard from a source. There was a bit of an issue between Drake and Mike Frable going back to last year. Have you heard anything that corroborates that or pushes back on that at all? I don't know what that is. You know, to me, I saw it's floated out there. Again, what I would say to you is this, we're going to keep grasping for theories as to what's
wrong with Drake May. Physicum, golden, rational about, mental, Mike Frable, I don't know what's wrong. But this conversation is not going away anytime soon. As long as he's struggling, turning over the football there, not winning, we're going to keep speculating on what's wrong because it just doesn't look right. So something seems off, whatever that is. And the only way to quiet those questions is to play better and win games. And if you don't do that, we're going to be talking about this next one today when we're doing this very same spot. That's the way it is. Adam, I'm curious what is wrong with CJ Stroud and Baker Mayfield for not taking the contract they were offered in the summer. I mean, both of them, I think, turned down pretty substantial contracts. Just thinking they deserve more money, both of them are open three right now. Are you think those guys are regretting not putting pen to paper in the summer? Baker did take the deal. I'm sorry. CJ Stroud, then my bad. I'm sorry. CJ Stroud, no, I mean, CJ Stroud is confident that he's going to get paid
at the end of the year. And the season hasn't gone the way he won. He's been with that Nico Collins the last two weeks. They haven't gotten their run game going. They lost Jaden Higgins at the end of camp to that tornado CL. So he's got some issues to overcome, but I think he believes that in the end of the workout for him. Baker got paid $155 million. guaranteed that deal came down. What was it? Kentucky Jack, who was it was like end of August or early September. It's all one big blur, but he got paid. He did what he had to do. And I bet he probably feels pretty good about that right now. All right, Adam Schafter. This is fairly recent news as in within the last hour or two. But Christian Gonzalez apparently missed today's practice. And he had his media session abruptly canceled, which is somewhat concerning, especially when you're a couple days before you face the bills. Have you heard anything about Christian Gonzalez and why he wasn't there today? No. And in fact, I didn't even know he wasn't there today. So you just said it.
There you go. You can report it now and just say as heard on the rich caninted show. I'm trying to think back. I mean, Ted, did you notice any kind of injury during I didn't as well. That's obviously a big loss of these. He's not there at a team that truly is already hurting. But if you hear anything, could you tweet it out because I would like to know. Yes. Absolutely. You're worried about him right now. I mean, yeah, because he's not there. Absolutely. They need everybody. I mean, this is Adam. I can't tell you what we're like in twin peaks right now. It is bizarre. Like I mean, we've between, you know, the red socks, you know, just like losing all their good players and getting blown out last night and Drake May all of a sudden we go from being a franchise quarterback to people literally saying he should be benched for Tommy DeVito. They're crazy, by the way, Adam. It's really strange around here in Boston. Again, when you don't win, you're going to get all those things that come along with it. And last year was a joy ride. Christian Zollock was in the
locker room today. My understanding is he got banged up a bit making a tackle. After the game, he said he felt good. So my guess is that I still need to do with a hit. He took on Sunday. They're probably nurturing him along. And we'll see if that turns out to be the case tomorrow on Friday. Adam, what is the state of the bills? Do they have any weak spots? Paying a picture of a New England win if you could this weekend. Yeah, I mean, the defense has been good, but not great. They've given up some points and some yards. It looks like they're going to be without Christian Benford at the cornerback position. It looks like he might not play this weekend. They've been in games or four where hopefully you can get Josh Allen to turn the football. Otherwise, he's been the best player in football this year. He's not turning it over. He got no shot. So that's going to be the cake. Can they get turnovers against the bills and get that kind of thing if they can? The other chance. It's not going to be a long Sunday. All right. Well, Adam Schaefter, once again, thank you for coming on with us. We appreciate it every week. And it's always good talking to you, buddy.
Guys, we'll see what sort of theories and conspiracy theories are out there. Next week, at this time, the Patriots don't win. I'm sure they'll be even greater than they were today. Oh, yeah. Dude, it's going to get it's going to it's already absurd. And now it's just going to be like, you know, we're hallucinating with the kind of theories that are going to be out there. All right, Adam, I appreciate it. Thanks for coming on, man. Thanks guys. Have a great week. So I'm seeing this right now that apparently there was a third down stop during the Jaguars game against running back LaQuint Allen where Christian Gonzalez's left arm appeared to be hanging as he came off the field. It's come off with that guy. He went back on though. He did. Now he did go back out there. I just that look, you know what that is? That looks like that's a that's a stinger. That's what I thought. That's what you get when you you're your shoulder just kind of goes numb and you kind of shake your hand arm like that. That to me is a stinger. I'm just trying to look for something that could indicate that he is injured for any reason because that that is strange.
But this could Wednesday Ted Wright is often just a vet day off in this case, not a veteran, but he could just be get a Wednesday off. Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, that's I wish I wish no more is reporting that, but yeah, that's that's very much could be the case. But but I mean, he had a media session scheduled. Like that's I think the difference is that he was expected to be there. He was scheduled to be there. Here's that play by the way I was just talking about. On third and five, the Lars protected Lars get complete. But England keeping in front of him. Allen is buried by Christian Gonzalez. He'll be a little bit late to get to his feet. I'm sure if he took us a hard hit there with the show you know what I play by Gonzalez. Yeah, yeah, okay, I hate to get those things man. But he came back in so I just kind of wrote it off. I didn't even think much about it. I don't know. I just saw I literally with Jackson Smith and Jigba. He was asked like who the best quarter in the league is and he said Gonzalez has played me the best. So I mean, talk about how important he has been. Yeah, this is a this is a big deal. So obviously Adam Schefter's not going
to say anything about any kind of behind the scene stuff with Ravel and Drake. Man, tell you the Patriots identity on defense is what we all know. Can we guess blitzing? I mean, they're they pressure sending pressure and they only can do that because of Christian Gonzalez. If Christian Gonzalez is not in the in the lineup, they cannot be nearly as effective blitzing like they have. And that's been their identity through the first three games. Well, at least they didn't get against the high powered offense. Yeah, no, they did get Dremel and Jones back. But that's a good question. Do you blitz Allen or do you sit back like they did with Lawrence this week? I mean, I guess they to your point that they have to blitz. Boy, you don't blitz at your own. You know what? It's got to be timely blitzing. The times they blitzed last week. It was the wrong time and they the times they didn't blitz. Trevor Lawrence carved him up three of this touchdown passes in the red zone were against non blitzing defenses. So they got him make sure when they do blitz, it's at the right time. Somebody said back in the day, Ted, it was called a stinger. Now the team calls it four weeks on the injured reserve. Plus you you're making it kind of a funny point, which I thought was interesting. And
yeah, and you were saying it's weird how many players right now in Boston sports are kind of getting the reputation of being the word soft, you know, super stars. Not just the players with super stars. Well, I mean, obviously there was when the Celtics, you know, when Tatum wasn't out there for the last game. I heard some people say that I give him I give him all the I don't want to say I give him permission to not permission. I don't think that he's soft for that. I think that there was people they think he is. They do, but I think that that one's unfair because I believe if a doctor tells you not to play, you don't play. And that's apparently what the deal was. It was strange though that even Jalen Brown didn't know until what like 45 minutes before the game. That's what he's alleging. Yes. Okay. So that's odd. That part of it makes me question it a little bit, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Then you talk about. Drake mage. I am. People know I get it together. Yes. Then you talk about, you know, some of the players on the red socks. Yep. Yep. Roman Anthony. See, I don't know if you teed me up. I mean, you have hard time
saying their names. Well, because I don't know if I believe all the boys say this is what people are thinking. It is. I'm not saying that's what I think. I'm saying that there's a lot of people that are thinking that Roman Anthony is soft. The Drake mage is soft. The Jason Tatum is soft. You know, and then you throw in I think maybe some people think the captain of the bronze is a little soft. So I'm saying the superstars. A lot of people stay. Come on. Post is not soft. He was raging in the in the in the locker dressing room. There is a really impression though. You're right. I mean, there is and that's in Ted's right. Like if you were to ask 10 people on the street who were like really new their Boston sports, I would say at least two or three of them would label each one of these guys as soft. Well, Frazier Mitten. Frazier Mitten is the Iron Man. He played 82 games last year and he scored last night. Game winner. So that's my new hero. Super star. But you know what? It is funny because you do compare it to let's go just let's go 15 years ago. Brady was just super star on the town. Never was called soft Kevin Garnett. Kevin Garnett never was called soft. Pedro Martinez. Oh yeah. No. Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Chara never was called. So Jake came out there with a little piece broken jaw. Yeah. Right. Broken jaw wired. I go right. Right. Right. Rodney Harrison. It is interesting. Shilling bloody sock. Oh, broad. He put grouch upon his Edelman. What? Tough, tough, tough, tough, all tough guys. All of them. It's as much as I want to say it's not fair calling these guys soft. It is kind of wild when you compare it to the guys from 15 years ago. Because I mean, no, no one thought those dudes, no one even when mentioned soft when it came to most of those guys you just named. Now your ace is getting pulled into fifth. I mean, God, for minutes. Oh, that's no one Ryan. That's what he's got the best response to that. Somebody said rich called the man soft. It's okay. He doesn't have an injury. It's an outgie. I don't know. He's talking about but I think we're an outgie. Uh, Tate of his soft just like the rest of our story. I think, Oh, hang on. Can I just say one thing? And I know we have to break. Have you seen some of the reports that have come out of the Celtics practices lately? They're like this team is laughing and there wasn't one day that at least somebody wasn't practicing with somebody else on the team. And like all the vibes are high. And it's just one of those things
are just like, huh, I wonder who's missing from the equation here. This is like a state media. I saw one article today that the that Neemis Cata has named the big guys big fellow university. They're all together and big fellow universe. It is like a high school sleepover. It's like if they're going to have a pillow fight, I mean, honestly, it's like everyone's chumming around. And it's like the best vibes ever. You know, they're there. You know, it's it's like the Brady bunch. They're skipping and singing. It it's kind of funny. And I don't know whether they're turning it up because a certain player isn't on the team anymore. And they want, you know, to show the world. Look, is any team better at passive aggressiveness than the Celtics? It does kind of feel the way it doesn't it? It absolutely does. All right, 61777 97937 will take your calls next. We are in Newport, Rhode Island. It's a flex Friday and we're at the Newport craft brewery. As a part of the Audrey, Newport concourse motor week.
Want to thank a legendary Rhode Island establishment. Wally's Reeners for bringing Wiggy his one meal of the day this morning. The glizzies. Which one did you try? I tried the I think it was L. Hefe is one of them. Ah, yes. I try. I try that one and try it out. You have like half of it. Yeah. I like that. Yeah. I mean, I'm trying means like a bite. So that's what it is. It's like cut it in a quarter. It's a bite. So on that dog, you get cheddar cheese fries. Yep. Bacon. Peacote a guy. Oh, and Chipotle a. Holy. Yeah. And you like all that stuff on your dog? Yeah, I do like that. I like the bacon and the um, and the french fries. Okay. All right. Well, thanks to Wally's and joining us now is Bruins legend. A couple of tough acts to follow this morning. Yeah, you got your following J. Lano. By the way, everybody Ray Bork, please. They love you down here. I, Ray, I bet I guarantee you played some golf in Rhode Island. Yes, one of more set one of the best courses in Rhode Island. And my son got married in Newport and go to Island. So we spent 24 days there a little bit before the wedding had a great time and my son coaches and one of the assistant coaches for the provenance Bruins. So I'm going there on Sunday. So great state. Oh, it is a great state. It's great food state too. Well, listen, team, team starts a season with a win and, you know, it's cancer rangers, but a team that they they needed to beat. They have to beat that team. And I'm sure you were watching. What, uh, what did you see that you liked right out of the gate from the Bruins? Right? Well, number one, uh, well, number one is swimming. So he, uh, he had an amazing game. You know, he was
up for Besana last year. Seems like he'll probably be up for that again this year. And he's, uh, he's such a spabilizing force for them. Give them a chance to win every night. And they played a solid game. I thought I thought the outtrance to rangers, um, you know, it was a nothing nothing game till about four minutes left. But you just thought that, you know, you're hoping that they're going to break through and find a way to score goal. Um, it's not one of those, you know, yell play a team, outchats a team. And, um, you hope you don't lose any points to to go on out and play that well. So I thought they were solid all over. Um, you know, the turkah scored an amazing goal. He's a very dynamic player. I think that was a great addition for them. Um, I remember him at 17 years old. He was playing with my son and, uh, and Munich as a 17 year old playing for Red Bull out there. And, uh, you kind of knew that this guy was going to be a special player and, um, they need more players
like that. And I think he's going to be a great grown in a great addition. Um, de played solid, you know, all four lines. Got a good job. So they're off to a good start. Little road trip here, coming up, starting to win and pick tonight. So, uh, you know, they were a great routine, kind of a good, routine last year, but they were so good at home. So I think they'll be good at home again. Now, you know, you start, uh, and want to pick tonight. You hope you get off to a good start in the road and come back for a few after that. So. Ray, you bring up Paturka and everybody's talking about him. But when you look at all the new names, all the young guys, who, who's maybe a dark horse that not enough people are talking about in your mind. Um, you know, uh, Morgan is, um, I think is going to be a good addition. He's, uh, he's tall, he's lanky, he's physical. I think he'll bring a nice present, um, on D. Um, and, you know,
I love Mitten. I mean, he was last year. He had a great rookie season. Um, really happy with, with them signing them to a long term deal. I think this guy's going to be an amazing grown. Maybe down the road, uh, you know, maybe where to see at some point, uh, little later in his career, but he has that kind of character. Um, so, you know, not that many new faces in the lineup to be, uh, to be honest, I thought Laura, I got off to a good start. We're looking for good things out of him in his growth as a player. He's very talented in skill and a big kid back there. I think he's ready to kind of pop on. And if he does, that'll be, um, really, um, a great, a great addition on the D because he's, uh, he's very talented and, uh, I think a lot is just expected out of him this year. So I think that just keeps growing. I think, you know, they've got some great veterans. I love that fourth line. Uh, toughness that they bring and that's
steadiness. Um, so I, you know, I, I'd like, they're going to be, they're very structured team. I think it's going to be a lot like last year where, uh, structured and, uh, how they go about their business. They're very well coached. Um, but it starts with playing without the puck for them and they got the goalie to make the big saves. Ray, you talked about the goalie and Swaman. Take us in the mind of, uh, defense men, just a hockey player. When you know you have a guy that's an elite level goalie who's between the pipes. What, what, what is it like to know that you have that type of player and does it make you more aggressive as a, uh, a defenseman to be like, okay, can gamble a little bit more. Kind of walk us through that. And did you ever play with a guy that was at that level? You know, like, all right, he could bail us out if, you know, maybe I got a little too aggressive and make a play. I think it's not so much aggressive. It's, I think it's when you mess up and it's not necessarily always when you're, uh, you're overly aggressive. And yes,
I did play, you know, we had a great tandem and Andy Mogue and Reggie Lennon, but then at the enemy career, I got to play in front of Patrick Waw that saved my butt many, many times, uh, and, and allowed me to experience winning a cup without him. I don't know if we're, uh, we're able to accomplish that. So I don't think it's so much being more aggressive. It's just knowing that when there's a breakdown, uh, that there's a very good chance that they'll save the day. Right. You've, as you alluded to, you went on the highest level at the highest level. And we've just finished a baseball season that ended prematurely for a lot of us with the Red Sox. A big debate about analytics, its involvement in sports and clutch in the way in which that plays into a championship roster. Were you fall on the new reliance on analytics and the, um, the way in which these organizations are being run? I think you use it, um, but when it comes down to it, you, you got
a feel it in your gut. And when that moment comes, I know there's a lot of debate about, you know, pulling both starters and those first two games. And I don't know. I, I, I just like to think that if I was on the mound or, you know, I think it's more in baseball than hockey. Hockey is, you know, it's a lot faster game. So you, you can't really rely on making that split decision in a second. Um, but I think in baseball, uh, it comes up a lot more. And I know that if I'm on the mound, uh, and that's situations, I, I hate being pulled off because I, I want to finish the job in that instinct. So I think you rely on it, going into games and kind of preparation for games and all that stuff. But I think in hockey, it's used and, and, and prep more than during the game and in other sports like baseball, I think it's used during the game a lot more than
any other sport. Right. It's great having you on all season long. We appreciate you taking the time this morning. And you said you're on. You're going to go watch the Providence Bees on Sunday down here. Yep. Sunday afternoon. I think it's their first home game. So, uh, go cheer them on. All right, everybody. The great, the great, the great Raymond Bork. Right. Thank you. We'll talk to you again next week. Nice guys. You next week. All right. That is Ray Bork. And I have a stat that shocked me about the Patriots through three weeks where they ranked dead last. And why maybe we're giving a little bit too much on to the, the play to drink me.
