Nine years later, Las Vegas honors the dozens of lives lost in a mass shooting. Thanks for joining us on seven at seven tonight. I'm Lena Blitz. We begin with top stories, the names of victims of the one October mass shooting at the Route 91 Music Festival were read aloud at a remembrance ceremony Thursday night. The annual ceremony was held at the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden where victims have individual memorial spots with their photo and name. For each name, red, a bell told and a candle was lit. Katie Axford, the daughter of victim Candice Bowers, said she comes back to Las Vegas every year on the anniversary. I appreciate it more than like anybody thinks. I think when we come here every year, it's not really to like, of course, it's to like honor my mom, but it's really to see like what the city does. You know, they will never forget. And I think that the
memory of it for them is like the biggest thing. They always honor it so much. Axford and her friends and family are already making their plans to come back next year for the 10th anniversary. The Vegas Strong Fund broke ground Friday on the forever one memorial to honor those impacted by the one October mass shooting. The permanent monument will be built on two acres of the Route 91 Harvest Festival grounds at the corner of Reno Avenue and Giles Street. Mary and Albert Rivera, the parents of victim Jordan Rivera, spoke at the groundbreaking with Mary reminiscing on the mother daughter trips she took to the festival all four years. It will be a sacred space where every life is honored, not how it ended, but for how beautifully it was lived. This memorial will give future generations a place to remember and learn about the 58 lights lost on October 1. The 58 love and never forgotten. The ones we carry in our hearts
every day. Plans call for the memorial to be completed next year in time for the 10th anniversary of the shooting according to the forever one website. A student as arrested after a gun is found at a Henderson High School. The Golden Knights teamed up with Vice Talent for their annual Blood Drive Thursday at City National Arena. This effort is personal for Natalie Gromett who is injured at the Route 91 Harvest Festival and lost a third of her blood. I think the idea that you can donate an hour of your time and save over two people's lives is so powerful and I'll never know the people that donated the blood that saved my life but I'm going to be forever grateful to them. Coach Dan Mullen on the challenges the Bears present. They have talent across the board defensively. They have corners that look like big defensive
ends. They're a 6-5 safety. Obviously an excellent defense. On the offensive side of the ball they have a quarterback everyone's talking about being a top driver like a possibly number run overall picking a draft so great challenge for us with a very very talented team coming to town.
