If it's really the NPC who can't think for themselves and needs the government and Facebook opinions and the news and all of these people to tell them who to be, how to live, and what to think, you don't need their opinions to bother you. The sooner you get comfortable with everyone thinking that you're losing it, or better yet, lost it, the better. It's time to become insane, my friends. All of the insane people are doing it. You literally need to become insane to separate yourself from the world. That's how far we have fallen from sanity. It is that the inverse is the preferred type. If you want to blend in, that's totally just fine.
You can, like I have no hate toward the gray man or the hidden personality or the person who wants to lay low and just have a quiet existence. I admire that too. It's admirable. It is. You can be insane quietly. Being insane does not mean that you have to be loud and bouncing off the walls and screaming from the rooftops and in the street squares and all this kind of stuff. You can be insane quietly. If you found yourself watching this video, you probably are to a certain degree. You might be the monk figure in the hills obsessed with the word or the hermit in some Icelandic cave, maybe the drifter of the outer lands or the family person who simply knows that there's more going on than meets the eye. Maybe you're the guy who's always camping because you know that there's just something not quite right with society. Maybe you are the guy who prefers to be alone, the guy or gal who doesn't want to be in crowds.
Maybe you walk in the desert often so that you can hear yourself think. You are one of these people. And if you're like more of a knight personality or the warlord personality, the Jesse James, the outlaw with a gripe personality, the Robin Hood or William Wallace or Jack Sparrow, maybe you're the Alexander the Great or Horatio Nelson or Elijah or John the Baptist, maybe the Comanche chief Iron Jacket. These are a few of my personal heroes. And you have to be on your delusional shit. The more you read history, religious or not, the more you realize that it's the ones who were bat shit crazy that are set apart from the rest. The world has told you that being crazy, being insane, being different, being crazy different, being insanely present or just outlandishly next level is somehow bad.
And that's because it's seen as having too much ego or seeing being seen as a skit cell or you're some kind of noncompliant. You're not fit for society. Good. That's what I say to that. Good. But being totally crazy doesn't guarantee you any level of success or advantage over anyone else by default except in your spirit and in your soul. And mentally it may feel like a burden, but ask yourself, would you rather be a lobotomized NPC or would you rather be awake? But before we get too far, I want to make it clear that this video isn't really designed to lead you to success or anything. It's more of a video about spiritual awakening and believing what people call you crazy for believing in is something that you shouldn't be feeling self conscious about. People could just think you're an insane person and not want to hang out with you. But if that's because you're making major spiritual or physical moves because you're
not blinded by the propaganda and you're not dancing to the manipulation. And you are in fact different than them because you're not subject to the same simple toxins that they are. And their opinions won't matter much to you anyway. It won't even factor into your mind. What other people are thinking about you, what family or friends or anyone else is thinking about you. If it's really these types of people who think you're losing it. If it's really the NPC who can't think for themselves and needs everybody, needs the government and Facebook opinions and the news and all of these people to tell them who to be how to live and what to think. You don't need their opinions to bother you. The sooner you get comfortable with everyone thinking that you're losing it or better yet lost it, the better. If you're crazy because you're huffing nitrous, then yes, stop doing that.
But on the one hand, there is a radical side to crazy. Okay. And this is the person who is really out to make a bang because honestly the world... Nowadays, it needs a bang. Every day throughout history needs a bang because bangs keep people on their toes. And if there's anything that I've learned from studying history and society, it's that people need to be kept on their toes as often as possible. So if you're one of these people, one of these people who are willing to stir the pot and want to stir the pot to shake things up, there's an Indian fable known as the wasp and the prince. The fable goes like this. There was a wasp named Pintail. And he was long in quest of some deed that would make him famous forever. So one day he entered the king's palace and he stung the little prince who was in bed at the time. And the prince awoke from his sleep and started screaming and crying loudly and generally just being a little kid who got stung by a wasp.
And the king and his guards and the servants, they all rushed into the prince's chambers to see what was going on and what had happened. And as they did so, Pintail just turned his attention to them and started to sting all them along with the prince. He stung the prince and all of the prince's people over and over and over. Each in turn was stung. And the whole royal household rushed in and the news soon spread and people flocked to the palace to see what the heck was going on. The city was in a total uproar. This wasp, Pintail, he made the news. All business was suspended. The wasp said to itself as it flew through an open window that a name without fame is like fire without flame. There is nothing like attracting notice at any cost. This gives me like a John the Baptist vibe. And no, of course not everyone is going to want to be a wasp or a John the Baptist with
their notoriety or their craziness or their difference of nature. Everyone is their own person. And as part of the delusional concept of free will, you get to choose who you will be. If you allow yourself to believe that you actually do have an element of free will. But one of the first things to being in the world, but not of the world, being the black sheet, being the dog hidden in the flock and wait for the wolf, being placed in history as an element to be remembered, whether that's the intention or not, I might add, is that you must actually believe something that either nobody else wants to believe can believe or thinks they should believe enough to do that thing that nobody thinks they can do should do or that nobody wants to do. And if you believe in a certain way, your actions will follow. The first part is the so called breaking of the ice. You have to break the ice with yourself.
Being insane is also simply not as simply not as simple as accepting the same fate as those around you. Remember, we are insane. So we have to separate ourselves from the so called sanity of the rest of the people around us. It's kind of like opposite day around here. Day in actuality are the insane ones because they're just following each other without really asking why. It's because they're a herd. Once the first few started funneling through the fences, the rest of the herd just blindly followed and no matter where the first few were going, so then was the rest of the herd. And the ones in the middle of the herd, they can't even see where the front few are going anyway. Or if they're even still alive. They've already fallen over the edge of the cliff. The ones near the end of the herd, they might feel a little bit alone. And it wouldn't be insane at this point to go against the grain because they're so very far away from the leaders of the herd.
But should they, then the middle of the herd, would consider them insane for separating from the herd, even though they are so far from the leaders? Nowadays, everybody is in shambles. The majority of the people that I know are broke. And when I say majority, I literally, like I mean like 99.7% of the people that I know are broke. They're unhappy. They've lost their spirituality. They've lost God. They've given up on society and civilization as a whole. They've given up on their fellow man because all of these things have turned against them as they see it. Places that used to be fun are no longer fun. Capitalism is starting to become a myth. The attention, suck of media and the subscription base nature of life of existence itself has
completely outed itself as a matrix of bullshit. Reality has totally exposed itself as a simulation. So why the heck would anybody keep going with the grain? And that's a real question. Why would you go with the grain? Even if you do, what do you actually think you're going to get out of it? If you're lucky, maybe you'll get a raise at a job that you hate. Through years of working, only for inflation to end up forcing you to need the next raise for it to even mean anything. It's a process that will continue to play out throughout literally your entire life. You will never reach the end of the labyrinth. A place to live that's barely what you want and cost an arm and a leg to rent or 20 years of your life to pay off if not more. More material possessions is that what you want or do you want freedom? You can literally die from someone else's misery from following the herd.
No matter how great the herd is, you might have a smaller herd within the greater. And I know this because I almost did die from other people's misery. No states are effective, effectively as infectious as diseases. Mindsets are highly contagious. You may feel that you are helping the drowning friend, for instance, but you are only precipitating your own disaster. The mistakes, the bad choices, the ill nature, the toxic vibes of others, they're not yours and they shouldn't define you. They will cover you with these things if you allow them. They'll feel a certain way and think that you should feel the same way because they have their whole life or because they are stuck in some way. I've experienced this a lot in my life. You know, this is the classic.
Your friends are important who you choose to hang out with are important sort of metaphor or parable or whatever you want to call it here. And I know that a great many religious people are going to say things like, well, I don't live for myself. I live for God or I'm not so vain or prideful as to pursue my own glory. And I would respond to this by saying that this really has nothing to do with pride or glory or vanity has more to do with happiness. And nowadays to truly believe in God is insane anyway. There's almost nobody's actually doing it. I mean, almost nobody's even really pursuing spirituality at all. But happiness is something that we're commanded to pursue by God anyway. You think God is proud of a bunch of depressed assholes who look down on people for pursuing a path toward hard earned joy.
Most of the people who would tell me to crush rocks for a living day in and day out go home tired and beat down and never to create our never to pursue adventure or a journey beyond the wall. All these people were religious for the most part. I personally in my personal life don't know a lot of people who don't believe in God. I know a lot of people who don't want to believe in God and want to judge me for believing in God. But I'm sorry. Why was this world made if not to bear witness to every bit of it and find joy in that? Michal Nimonthane, who was one of the most significant writers of the French Renaissance said once in his own time Simon Thomas was a great doctor. I remember that I happened to meet him one day at the home of a rich old consumptive. He told his patient when discussing ways to cure him that one means was to provide occasions for me to enjoy his company.
He could then fix his eyes and the freshness of my countenance and his thoughts on the overflowing cheerfulness and vigor of my young manhood. By filling all his senses with the flower of my youth his conditions might improve. He forgot to add that mine might get worse. Maya Motomusashi wrote in the book of five rings that many things are said to be infectious. Epirus can be infectious and yawning as well. In large scale strategy when the enemy is agitated and shows an inclination to rush, do not mind in the least, make a show of complete calmness and the enemy will be taken by this and will become relaxed. You infect their spirit, you can infect them with a carefree drunk like spirit, with boredom or even weakness. Meet the Red Bull Dragonberry Emergizer. It's one of the many new drinks out now. Who knew ice cold drinks could be so?
Fire. Try them all only at Motomus. Meet the Red Bull Dragonberry Emergizer. It's one of the many new drinks out now. Who knew ice cold drinks could be so? Fire. Try them all only at Motomus. Now, those misfortunate among us who have been brought down by circumstances beyond their control, they certainly deserve all the help and sympathy and kindness we can give them. After all, we are all humans and what are humans without each other. I'm not saying that we need to forget our fellow man, but we do not need to follow in the same footsteps or in the same direction or look the same as them as we show them kindness or give them whatever assistance we can. Kindness and assistance can manifest in many different ways. That being said, there are those who draw misfortune or for lack of a better phrase, a bad
and miserable existence, and they draw it upon themselves by their own destructive actions that they choose, by their own stubbornness or this belief that everyone around them must be doing the right thing because everyone is in fact doing whatever that thing is. If everyone just started shugging bleach though, would you do it? Like where do you draw the line? If everyone was dosing themselves with pharmaceuticals and then drinking themselves into oblivion, after working 12 hour days at two different jobs for minimum wage, would you do it? At the end of the day, it would be awesome if we could help people out of that pattern, but to a certain degree, by setting the example you are doing as much as you can do. By being insane, you are setting the example of what to do. The problem is if you try to help everyone and be a man of the crowd, then more often
than not, it's actually the crowd's pattern that end up getting inside us and changing us. And that keeps us trapped. That keeps us what the world calls sane. We succumb to pure pressure. And personally, I would just rather be an insane maniac. That's why I don't pay attention to the comments as much anymore is because I realized there were too many sane people who watched me. Humans are simply too susceptible to toxic emotions and moods. And this is why it's important to pick your friends carefully. This is why it's also important to find yourself in the desert sometimes. Be incurably unhappy and unstable. Have this peculiarly strong and affecting power because their characters and emotions are very intense. And this is why being a doomer is kind of lame.
It's actually very lame to be a doomer. You got to find a way to just be honest without being a doomer. Like in my last video where I talked about the coming mid-evil age of the United States, a lot of people were like, wow, you're so optimistic. I feel bad for you and stuff like this. And it's like, I don't think it's necessarily optimism. I think it's just an acceptance that the doom is coming. And I don't need to obsess on how bad it's going to be. I can just talk about how it's going to be. Like, yeah, bro. It do be do me out here. But that's no reason for me to just pull up the lawn chair and contribute absolutely nothing. There's, they're not right anymore. It's 2026. Nobody knows what works. This is the Wild West. We're in uncharted territory. They, the powers that be, they're lying. Okay. They don't have the recipe for success for you.
They don't want you to be successful. And the crowd that follows all of those trends, they don't know what they're doing. The crowd is not right. Don't follow the victims or the people who consider themselves victims because they have literally nowhere to go by their own choice. The miseries that they are victim to are self-inflicted miseries in the way that they're either not trying to escape them or they won't allow themselves to believe that there is something to escape from in the first place. Before you realize the real nature of their problems, you yourself might find yourself infected by their attitude if you don't become insane and separate at least mentally and spiritually. You'll become infected by the attitude of the herd. And then before you know it, you're on the butcher's block or you're stampeding off the cliff face.
There's a chunk of meat on the in the package in the plastic and you never even got to pursue something crazy instead. There are many kinds of, um, infectors to be aware of. But one of the most insidious is the sufferer from chronic dissatisfaction. Cassius, the Roman conspirator against Julius Caesar had the discontent that comes from deep envy. He simply could not endure the presence of any one of greater talent than himself. Probably because Caesar sensed the man's interminable sourness, he passed him up for the position of first prayer ship and gave the position to Brutus instead. And Cassius brooded and brooded and pouted and pouted and his hatred for Caesar became pathological. Now Brutus disliked Caesar's dictatorship as well, but Brutus had patience to weight him out and would change Rome after he took power justly.
That's what Brutus would have done. But unfortunately Cassius ended up infecting Brutus with his own bad vibes and convinced him to murder. A virus unseen. It enters your pores without warning, spreading silently and slowly. And before you are aware of the infection, it is deep inside you. So you got to become insane, my friends, which is essentially the quarantine to the virus insanity is you've got to make crazy Kanye style moves mentally, spiritually and physically. If that's if that's what you're going for, Kanye once said that he could quit wrapping at any time and join the NBA and be a professional basketball player just because he believes he can and because of who he is. And yeah, I think we all know that Kanye is absolutely nuts. And that's probably due to a variety of bad choices. But also there's no denying that when the dude sets his mind to something, it gets done.
He's an insane person. John the Baptist was considered insane too. And we might never know just how insane because we don't have the whole story of his life unfortunately. But no doubt one of the craziest things that we do know about him that we do know that he did is that he publicly confronted Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee over his marriage to Herodius, his brother's wife. John essentially looked at a politically powerful, ruthless, bloodthirsty guy and told him to his face, it is not lawful for the to have her. This is in Matthew 14. This was not some abstract preaching on John's behalf. He was directly accusing the local ruler of a sort of sexual and religious wrongdoing in a world where rulers could imprison or kill inconvenient critics and did often just because they wanted to shut them up. It didn't need any more justification than shut up.
Herod, well, he did exactly that. John was arrested and he was eventually beheaded and his head was served on a plate. But John's entire existence was extreme. He lived in the wilderness wearing camel's hair with a leather belt, eating locusts and wild honey. People thought he was crazy. Then people began traveling out into the desert specifically to hear this crazy man scream at them about repentance and impending judgment. They hungered for the insanity. And he wasn't diplomatic when Pharisees and Sadducees showed up. John greeted them with, oh generation of vipers who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come. He basically wandered out of the desert, began ritually washing people in the Jordan, publicly antagonizing religious elites constantly and in royalty. He announced that someone far greater than himself was coming and became famous enough that Josephus independently mentions him outside of the New Testament.
It's just about being insanely different. There's been a calculated ego murder in people over probably like the last two or three generations. Just non-stop harassment of the ego. We've been taught that the ego is bad. The ego makes us an asshole. The ego makes us this thing or that thing or the other thing. If you're too confident, we don't like you. If you're too brave, we don't like you. You have too much pride. You're peacocking. You want to pursue an abnormal, which by the way, you're peacocking. The peacock is an actual animal. People, it is real. How are you going to turn one of the most beautiful birds into an insult? You want to pursue all of these abnormal ways of life because we have decided that they're abnormal. You're stupid. You revolt against the obviously self-destructive and yet widely encouraged path of society. You're just a weird asshole.
It's abnormal to want to die like everyone else. Why wouldn't you want to at least try to die differently? That's my argument. Maybe you won't impact anybody except through your attempts and failures and abnormal death. Maybe that's enough. There's absolutely nothing to gain by associating with and following the same dark trail as those who are not even happy in their own lives, in their own existence, those people who are just miserable in general. Don't accept the roles that an absolutely depressed society forces upon you. You can recreate yourself at any time. You can forge a new identity. Right now, we're not locked into the digital system. You can unsubscribe. You can be one that commands attention. You can be somebody that suits yourself.
One that is never boring, always insane to everyone around you. Be the master of your own image instead of allowing society to paint you, something as disgusting as society in 2026. Go into 2027 something different than you were this year if you weren't content. If you weren't happy. If you weren't exactly pleased, then just become different. Become insane. Just try it. Just be insane for a day and see how you like it. Force yourself. Incorporate dramatic devices into your public gestures and actions. Become larger than life to the people who doubt you or at a bare minimum, completely confusing to those who would hate on you for your emotion. Don't let anybody get in the way of your emotion, especially those who have none. The person that you were when you were born, that's not who you necessarily are.
That's just the result of a series of circumstances and experiences thus far. But just as there are many, many ways to interpret a sentence without dictation, right? Or all my blood meridian fans at just as there are many ways to interpret a collection of words without proper grammar and punctuation and quotation marks. There can be different reactions to those circumstances and experiences. Who you are at this point is largely thanks to who your friends and family are and what society has done to you, what your bosses and teachers have made you, but only you, how do you get to choose who you want to be and who you become? They don't live in your fantasy for yourself, your dreams and passions. They are not theirs and they're not going to pursue them with you or help you pursue them. They don't even really care because they have their own.
Everybody is their own main character. None of them are lying in bed late at night wondering how they can make your wildest dreams come true, how they can make you a better person, how they can make you believe things that are incredible. But you are you and you can be insane. And if you're here, most likely you either want to be insane or you're curious about what being insane might be like or hopefully you already are insane. And you're going to hopefully act on these thoughts. Turn on yourself as if you are made of clay should be one of the greatest and most pleasurable adventures of your life. You should never accept that you're a finished product, especially not one that society or your family or your friends have made. It should be a hobby that you are at constructing yourself, molding yourself. You should be working on this day in and day out, whether you're nurturing your mind,
spending time in the woods, talking to God, engaging in physical activities, taking up archery, don't let yourself become stagnant of spirit. And don't be stagnant physically either. Through all this engagement with yourself, you are in essence a literal artist creating a human being yourself. The first step in self creation is to lose the doubt. It's self consciousness, self awareness, the understanding that you are capable of making an insane change in your life and that you are worthy of doing that. Meet the Red Bull Dragonberry Emergizer. It's one of the many new drinks out now. Who knew ice cold drinks could be so fire? Try them all only at my toes. Hey, it's your ceiling vent, so I'm dripping.
Could be the rain, could be the upstairs bathroom, yikes. You could hire the guy your neighbor recommended, but I'm pretty sure that's just his cousin. Do we know if he's licensed or does he just don't allow her? Listen to your home. Go with Thumbtack. Upload a photo or voice note and we'll diagnose your project and match you with the right pro for the job. Thumbtack. We know homes. Hire the right pro today. In the book 48 Laws of Power, Law 40 is despise the free lunch. Can you imagine Alexander the Great or David from the Bible being captivated by pizza in the break room as a thank you for making a rich man richer, for making another man king? What is offered for free by society or by anyone for that matter, especially in today's economy, is very dangerous. It is a trap almost 100% of the time. And this life you hate is becoming a free lunch, right? It's being offered to you.
It always involves a trick though or some kind of hidden obligation. Thumbtack's labor sickness, slavery over time, unhappiness, discontentment abuse. What has worth is well worth paying for. Remember that. What has worth is well worth paying for. There's a concept known as the bargain demon, powerful people judge everything by what it costs, not just in money but also in time and dignity and peace of mind. Licency is a very high cost to the regular guy who's not at all powerful. They are powerless even over their own life. They are the herd. Their own rent-based subscription-powered existence is very expensive. It costs their life. Be ruthlessly out of pocket by deciding that the life you have is not worth the cost. And this will drive you toward, hopefully the reality you want, it will drive you towards
a higher level of existence, a higher awareness. Bargain demons can't enter this space. Wasting valuable time digging for bargains, they worry endlessly about what they could have gotten elsewhere for a little bit less. And on top of that, the bargain item that they do buy is often really not even worth the price they paid. It's cheap. You can hunt for the cheapest, easiest and most predictable, the safest way through life if you want to. But are you living? Are you an actuality living a good life? Or are you living an expensive life because your life is low quality. So you spend your time making repairs and replacements constantly. What is the actual cost of the grind without the grain? What is the cost of following the herd? Like lemmings dancing off the edge of the cliff, like penguins straight into the mouth of
the killer whale as like twigs in a wood shipper. The bargain demons convince others to harm themselves as well. Their behaviors are contagious. It would be insane not to take this bargain after all. But I think I'll take my chances. That's what you should say. Unless you resist them, they will infect you with the insecure feeling that you should have looked harder. You should have taken this deal. You should have maybe worked harder. You should have dug deeper, reached further down for your bootstraps, pulled them up with more vigor. Maybe you should have pursued that promotion harder. After all, this is the way they told us would make a successful. You should have studied longer because everybody knows the longer you're in school, the more successful you're going to be. And if you did all those things, and well, you'd have found a cheaper price by now. You'd have found it worth it. Don't argue with these types or try to change them. That's their lot that they've drawn for themselves. And they're educated and they worked hard for their promotion.
So they should know, right? They are masters of a cheap life. For some of us though, delusion or insanity is something that we simply cannot resist. It's like the call of the wild, insanity and what people call the woo. There are things that we can't avoid. Whether the world is so repulsed by us or vice versa, it forces us into this silence into the woods, which is where I try to spend as much time as possible personally. Or it just repulses us to the point that we retreat into our own hermit holes, the easy life, the bargain life, the going with the flow. It doesn't even remotely attract us. We're all going to handle our insanity in different ways and how we seek out our solitude in different ways as well. Sometimes that solitude is just in the mind. Sometimes it is physically. There's this guy, Simion Stylites, who live roughly 390 to 459.
And he might be one of the strangest examples of the hermit personality that has ever been recorded. Simion was a Christian ascetic and he entered his monastic life when he was pretty young, but apparently ordinary monasticism wasn't extreme enough for him. So he became increasingly severe with his like fasting and his isolation, his physical discipline until eventually even the other monks were like, dude, you are out of your mind. So Simion just left. But there was a problem because people kept finding him. The more radically that he withdrew from normal society, the more people became fascinated with him. Pilgrims would travel to see him. People wanted his prayers and advice. They wanted his spiritual counsel. And Simion, he was just trying to escape civilization and yet civilization essentially kept coming to him. So eventually he did something that was just so completely insane that it entered the
analysis of history. In order to get away from the ever increasing number of people who came to him for prayers and advice, leaving him absolutely no time for his own private austerities, Simion discovered a pillar in an abandoned building among the ruins, and nearby Telonissa in modern day Talata in Syria. And he built a little platform and began living on top of this abandoned pillar in the ruins. And this first pillar was about 10 feet tall, but he became known for this and he moved to other pillars. Like this is so like fantasy book coded. I don't even know what inspired him to do this. By the end of his life, he was living on a pillar that was 50 feet off the ground and up the top of this pillar was his platform. And he had like a little baluster around it so he didn't fall off.
But this is where he died and he lived here for 35 to 42 years from summer to winter. He stayed up here and he eventually got an ulcer in his thigh that ended up killing him. But he never came down from his from his column and he lived on this pillar until he died. And honestly, who can say if this is divinely inspired, if this is some kind of religious psychosis who can really say for sure, but it is insane and it did get him into the history books. Another person who's in the history books, one of my favorite people in the history books is Admiral Horatio Nelson. He once faked blindness to win a battle which was insane in its own way. This was at the Battle of Copenhagen against the Danish fleet. His senior Admiral Sir Hyde Parker thought that the fight was going badly. The Danes were armed ferociously. They had some allies with them.
And British Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson was ordered to turn away and run. This was in the year 1801 so orders weren't given from ship to ship over radio signal or cell phone call or anything like that. Commanders of ships would look through their spyglass to see what the signal man was signaling on the commanding ships. Now Admiral Nelson was already blind in one eye at this point. If anybody knows about him, he was blinded in combat already by this time. Which is why it was so insane when as he looked for the signal flags on the commanding ship, Admiral Nelson held his telescope to his blind eye deliberately and said, I really do not see the signal. Which is insane. Parker saw the British ships under heavy fire and some even stuck in the mud. He signaled for Nelson to pull back. But instead what followed was a gripping chapter in naval warfare as Nelson transformed
what should have been a foreboding retreat into an insanely daring victory. Within hours and with a ferocity and finesse that can really be attributed to such a small amount of people throughout time. Nelson's squadron completely blanketed the Danish defenses and sustained broadsides. And of course his gamble paid off. He's Admiral Nelson. The superior British firepower forced the Danish to near capitulation. And when he realized that the tides had turned, Nelson turned up the heat a little bit. He offered an unusual cease fire that was kind of wrapped in a threat. And he said, you either halt your hostilities now or face total annihilation, which was just a masterstroke that blended his superior knowledge and ability with strategy with diplomacy. And ultimately this solidified his reputation as both a warrior and a peacemaker truly
a remarkable figure in time. He was asked about it afterwards, what inspired him to make such a daring move contrary to the orders and basically confirmed that yes, he did disobey orders because he said, I have only one eye and I have a right to be blind sometimes. And this event actually became strongly linked to the saying turn of blind eye, which did exist before this occasion. But everybody kind of thought it was a much cooler thing to say after Admiral Horatio Nelson literally used the concept of the saying to his advantage in battle. Another absolutely diabolical example of insanity from history is Alexander the Great. And he's a peculiar example because he was actually raised insane. His mother literally raised him calling him a god. And due to the fact that he believed that he was in fact a god, he went undefeated in battle. He cemented his status as a legendary figure, completing like Lord of the Rings style
accomplishments in warfare. He never lost a single battle in all of the 15 years that he was campaigning and warring across the world. Many of these battles he was outnumbered or facing what seemed to be insurmountable obstacles. And because of his insanity, there was also nothing that he was afraid of. Even when he was vastly outnumbered or appearing before enemies that he had never seen before, with abilities that he had never encountered before. At the Battle of Gaugamela in 331 BC, Alexander faced the Persian king Darius III who had assembled this absolutely massive army. And ancient sources claim that the Persians had up to a million men here while Alexander had about 47,000. Darius even flattened the battlefield beforehand so that his sithed chariots could shred the Macedonians to pieces. Like the odds were stacked against Alexander.
And Alexander, he deliberately marched his entire army sideways and diagonally, simultaneously, which forced the Persian line to stretch and mirror him to avoid being outflanked. And as the Persians shifted, a tiny temporary gap opened up in the center of their ranks. And Alexander immediately formed his elite companion cavalry into a wedge and charged straight into the gap, aiming directly for Darius himself. Darius panicked, he fled, and so did his massive army, which ended up collapsing into a total route. But then there was the siege of Sogdian Rock in 327 BC. And this was basically the invention of psychological air warfare. The situation is that Alexander was in modern Uzbekistan. And there was a regional warlord who had retreated into a sheer icy mountain fortress known
as the Sogdian Rock. And the defenders, they were inside of this fortress mocking Alexander, shouting down from the cliffs that he would need winged soldiers to capture them. There, thinking this is no impossible task for somebody such as a god like himself, asked for volunteers who had experience in rock climbing. And he selected 300 men, he equipped them with these iron tent pegs and flaxen ropes, and had them scale the sheer frozen cliff face in pitch darkness. Around 30 men are reported to have fallen to their deaths during this undertaking. But at dawn, the survivors reached the top, the 270 or so remaining, and they unfurled their white cloths. Alexander sent a herald to the defenders in the fortress, telling them to look up because he had found his winged soldiers.
The defenders were of course shocked and believed that Alexander must actually be a god and must possess supernatural powers, and they surrendered without firing a single arrow. In this case, it took multiple insane people following an even more insane dude to take a supposedly impregnable ice fortress, and yet with a whole lot of insanity and a few bed sheets, it would appear that the impossible can be accomplished, even as you're being relentlessly mocked and ridiculed, which I feel like a lot of us can relate to. Maybe not taking an ice fortress with bed sheets, but being mocked and ridiculed.
And you know, lately I've been feeling, I've just really been feeling that there might be some times ahead that we deem apocalyptic and horrible, but the only way that we're going to get through such things is to fashion our souls, to fashion our spirits and our minds, and to something that can withstand such apocalyptic times. You're equipped with all of the tools and machinery that you need already. You just got to learn how to use those things. To worry about the future, keep your mind in the now. Then now creates what's to come. A lot of people have heard or like to quote Socrates, but I find very few ever talking about how he died. He died by poisoning in 399 BC, and he was sentenced to this death by a jury of his own
Athenian peers. Socrates for those who don't know was one of ancient Greece's most influential philosophers. With his interrogative nature, he stood alongside people like Plato and Aristotle and Epicurus as one of the great minds of the ancient world. Plato even issued a statement in his defense. And at the age of 70, Socrates was brought to trial and charged with impiety or a lack of reverence for the Greek gods, as well as corrupting the Athenian youth allegedly. And he was ultimately sentenced to death for this. Despite being revered as a great thinker and mentoring, people like Plato, Socrates famously claimed that he never sought to teach anything, because he knew nothing. He was known for what has since been dubbed the Socrates method of engaging in public, question-driven conversations about a litany of subjects like the nature of justice,
of virtue and wisdom. One of his most famous quotes is the only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing. And even though he mounted a spirited defense as was documented by Plato, he wasn't able to convince the 500-man jury of his innocence, and they voted to convict him. The ancient Athenian system also allowed defendants to suggest their own punishments at that time. Socrates was joking and he said at first that he should be rewarded. But his jurors didn't find this very funny at all, so then he suggested an incredibly small fine since he didn't actually believe that he had done anything wrong. But this did nothing to sway the jury either. On the contrary as a matter of fact, more jurors voted for the death penalty than had deemed him even guilty in the first place.
And then the philosopher was given the option of exile from the city instead of death, but he chose to remain and accept the verdict. He said that he owed it to the city under whose laws he had been raised to honor those laws to the letter. You might find this an insane thing to do. This is Socrates we're talking about, insanity was never out of the question. Ultimately he was given a cup of poison, likely hemlock, a highly poisonous plant related to parsley, and ended his life at the age of 70, hated by many of his fellow citizens. But that didn't seem to bother the famous philosopher who reportedly met his end bravely and discussed philosophy until he died. As his student Plato wrote, he appeared happy both in manner and words as he died nobly and without fear. It's time to become insane my friends, all of the insane people are doing it.
