Get started today. And I got a really fun show coming at all you every day is out there today on this Tuesday. We're a little bit later on. We got to talk some recruiting because five star eddresser, Jolani George, has set his commitment date and announced a top four to go along with that. So we'll get that and some other recruiting notes a little bit later on the show because after talking with Jetfish on Monday, I'm very curious about the status of a couple of key pieces, guys like Lan and Hatchet, and manual currently being a few.
So we'll get to their status a little bit later on and what the plan might be with them, what it might be without them. So we'll dive into that a little bit later on because before we do all that, the group that I'm most intrigued by because I don't want to say it's struggling in a major way. This last week, because I think the scheme played a little bit before of a part and all of that. But I really want to talk about this front seven because Washington has shown the ability to be extremely disruptive upfront where throughout the season, you go look at the numbers right. The sack numbers are there. The tackle for lost numbers, the turnovers, Washington has done a very, very good job of improving in Ryan Walter's second year in terms of those production numbers. And so I really like all of that. However, that's in the non-conference late, right? Looking ahead to what you were going to see in the big 10 and you're facing a very interesting challenge right off the bat. And I want to start with the Russian game here because it's one that I have a whole lot more questions about when it comes to Minnesota where their star running back, Daria's Taylor, he's been dealing with an injury, not sure if he's going to be able to play this weekend. And with or without him, this is a unit that has struggled to run the ball this season.
They ranked 17th in the big 10 in Russian yard. So I think that's something to really note right off the bat here because I think that's very, very interesting, especially when you look along their offensive line. And this is something that our good buddy Alex Katzen and I talked about on yesterday's show as you every day. There's no where Greg Johnson, their left guard is somebody who might wind up being a first round pick in the 2027 NFL draft. He's a very, very talented player and then Ashton Beers their center is another guy who is looking like an NFL player. So they have a really solid offensive line, especially along the interior in that regard, which is something I really want to dive into as a part of the defensive line. But I think it starts with this unit of linebackers because it's one of those things where I feel like it's an issue that's gone a little bit under discussed as it contains Washington's offense so far this year in terms of, you know, without Daria's Taylor, especially if he's not able to go in this game. I feel like Washington's linebackers aren't going to do a whole lot of biting on play action in a game like this. And that's something we've certainly seen when you go back and dive into the film. Something that opposing teams have been doing with Washington of we're daring you to run the ball a little bit.
And I feel like this is the kind of game where with the kind of talent that Drake Lindsay does have in terms of as a passer. I feel like that's something where Washington is going to be very, very aware of that. But again, as it pertains to the rushing attack, I look at this front seven and I feel like it's going to be a major opportunity for some of these younger guys like a Derek Coleman Brusa, a Ramzak Bruin. They have a shot to just kind of experience what life is going to be like in the big tenon. Hey, we're going to face these big physical guys that are NFL ready and that are going to be playing at the next level, you know, maybe in a year or two years. And so I think that's something where relying on them in a game like this is something that Jed Fish and this coaching staff are very clearly comfortable with. But I look at some of these other guys and how they might step up in the run game. Jacob Lane, Kymek Lendon, Dishon Watts, Darren Conley, some of these more experienced guys in terms of, you know, they just played more coach football, whether that being the big ten or somewhere else. And I feel like this is going to be a game where we really see the depth along Washington's defensive line step up in a big way.
And it's one of those things where, you know, again, as it pertains to the linebackers, we've seen Jacob Manu, X-ray Alexander, Zagyus Rene Sale, Buda Aluqta, this entire group bind ways to be productive in more ways than one, whether that be again generating turnover, sacks, forced fumbles, tackles for loss, whatever that might be. This group has done a very good job of that through the early part of the season, even if, you know, the, the fumble recovery that Buda Aluqta picked up and scored should have counted when it didn't. But I look at a lot of just what this group has been able to do so far this year and the production has been there. It's been that step forward that I think that we were all hoping to see from this front seven. And now it's a matter of, okay, you've shown that you can go out there and excel and dominate the non-conference late upfront. However, doing that against an offensive line of this caliber is going to be a very different test. And the running game, I want to start with the running game because that's not where a lot of my concerns lie. And it's just one of those things where I look at the passing game and I look at Drake Lindsay, who again are good buddy Alex Katzana and I talked about this yesterday,
of he's not a guy who's going to roll out of the pocket and try to be true with his legs. He wants to stand in there. He wants to deliver the football. He's a big physical guy, 6 foot 5, 230 plus pounds. So he doesn't really move around a whole lot. And so that's why I wanted to highlight these offensive linemen as well, not just of what they're able to do in the run game in terms of clearing the path. And it hasn't necessarily been super effective behind them. But what's that going to look like in past protection and is Washington going to find a way to get pressure on Drake Lindsay? Because we've seen it so far this year that they are able to do that. And so it's something where you go and you look at just what Washington has been able to do and how they've been able to get pressure. Yes, you are able to find that with four guys, a couple of the blitzes that you're throwing in there. Some of the different stunts with Alex McLaughlin, Jacob, Jacob Manu getting in there since both of those guys have sacks this year. But it's one of those things where what's that going to look like in a game like this? Because if you try to force Drake Lindsay off the spot, you might want to send some heavier blitzes.
And I feel like that's something Ryan Walters is very, very comfortable with doing. But it's one of those things where we'll talk about a manual currently in a little bit. But in terms of again, this plan of, hey, what's it going to look like to get to the quarterback and force a guy who is not very comfortable moving around off his spot? Are you going to be able to do that? And are you going to be able to do that from the interior especially? And so it's something where I mentioned a lot of those guys, right? Darren Conley is someone I've been very pleased with and what he's been able to put together through his first couple of games. Kymek Linden has certainly stepped up in a big way. And I think Derek Holman Brusa, Ramzack Fru and are going to have opportunities in this game to get pressure. But it's not on Derek Holman Brusa, Ramzack Fru and to go out there and be the stars, right? If they're going out there and they are giving you a high level effort and they're being very productive, that's awesome. The guy I look at in that regard is a Linneas Davis. And I'm very excited to see what this kind of challenge will be for Linneas, especially going up against Greg Johnson, Ashen Beers, because Jetfish told us during his Monday press conference that he was healthy enough to play last week against Eastern, but they held him out.
They are certainly looking forward to having him back this week. And this is one of those games where, hey, this is the guy that you've been relying on to be that big time pass russia for you along the interior of the defensive line. Now he's going to have an opportunity to prove it in the best way possible because he's someone where if you know, I feel like Minnesota is going to feel comfortable leaving Greg Johnson one on one with him, assuming that's the side of the line that Linneas Davis is lining up on. And if he's able to win some of those reps and try to force Drake Lindsay off the spot, you have the athletes at outside linebacker with some of the different stunts and blitzes that you like to call to wrap him up and bring him down. If he is getting uncomfortable and he is trying to move around and make a play or maybe he just wants to throw the ball away. Those are all things I'm very much just excited to watch in this game because I feel like it's something where Minnesota has the bigger names, especially in terms of a guy who's already getting mocked in the first round. But I think with the depth of what Washington is able to put together along the front seven, the talent is there, the depth is there.
And from what we've seen from Ryan Walters so far this year, I feel like the plan is there as well to find a way to get after the quarterback because again, when you don't necessarily have to worry about that guy escaping the pocket and breaking off 15 or 20 yard run, I feel like things are going to be very different on that side of the ball. And you won't see you know linebackers hanging out in the middle of the field on every single play. You might see them walk down to the edge a little bit more, but it's a little bit more. And so in a game like this, I'm very, very curious to see what that plan is going to look like because having the linear Davis back is great, but you're also going to need some guys like a manual calmly to step up in a big way. And we'll get to that right after message from our good friends over at Game Time College football is full of games you plan for all year, but sometimes the best memories come from the games you almost missed. I know I said before we hit the break that I was going to talk about Emmanuel Carly, but I was looking over my little note card here, and I realized that I didn't really talk about Devon Hyde, and the rule that he might have to play in this game because Jed Fish was not asked about the status of Logan George. We'll make sure to do that a little bit later in the week.
But I'm very curious because Logan George didn't play in this game. He was suited for warm-ups. We didn't seem out there during the game. I believe that we saw him in street clothes at some point as the game played out. So that's one of those things where I'm very curious to see what some of these other roles might look like. Whether that be Devon Hyde, Isaiah Ward, Russell Davis, Washington has plenty of options at that edge rusher outside linebacker spot. Two fine different ways to make things work. And one of the things that Logan George had done a really good job through the first couple of games of the year was he had been a really solid run defender. He had been doing a really good job of setting the edge, turning running backs back inside toward the teeth of the defense. And so that's one of those things where I'm curious to see what that might look like because we saw so much of Devon Hyde in that role in this last game. And I think that we could see a little bit more of that. The other person who I'm very curious to see if Washington wants to rely on a little bit more in a run defense role as Isaiah Ward. Because he's been really effective early on in the year. And it's something where we've seen what Russell Davis's usage is looked like early where Washington is very clearly still trying to work him back into things after the knee injury ended his 2025 season last summer.
So all of those guys are players that I want to keep a very close eye on in this because I think that there's certainly going to be a role for all of them in this game. But the more that I look at it, the more curious I am to see how Ryan Walters wants to find different ways to utilize these guys. Because we've seen what Devon Hyde can be as a run defender. We've seen him get out of the quarterback a little bit. Obviously, Isaiah Ward has excelled a little bit more in the the passwarscape ability, but he's gotten bigger. He's gotten stronger and it was very clear that with the way he was used in the first couple weeks of the year as well that Washington is getting more comfortable with him being out there more often as a run defender. And so between those two guys, I'm very curious to see how they might want to fill that void that has been left at this point by Logan George. And again, we'll see if he's going to be able to go this coming weekend where I feel like much like it was with the Linnaeus Davis that Washington was trying to keep guys safe, keep healthy to get them ready for big 10 play and get them ready for this coming weekend.
And I'm curious to see if that's going to be the case with Emmanuel Carmely as well because Jetfish said on Monday that it's going to be a day to day sort of deal with him this week to see if he's going to be ready to go. He wasn't specific on what the injury might be so I'm very curious to see if Emmanuel Carmely is going to be able to go because if he is that's just another big long corner back on the outside who has the ball skills to you know get his hands in there and get some pass breakups and between him and Dylan Robinson Washington has that size that length on the outside that John Richardson really likes that obviously Jetfish really likes as well. And that Ryan Walters can utilize in a variety of different ways and so we kind of saw with the plan would be without him this past week obviously with Jaron Jones stepping up and starting on the outside. We're Sean Clark filling in of the nickel spot and I feel like that's what it's going to be again in this game if Emmanuel Carmely is unable to suit up and for Jaron Jones I don't think it was his best game where obviously he gets called for a pair of passing or appearance penalties. But that's not something that I'm really worried about because one of the things that we heard so consistently about Jaron Jones from his coaches from his teammates throughout fall camp was how short of a memory he has and at the corner back spot obviously that's something that's just absolutely crucial to have because bad plays can compound and compound and compound so quickly.
And that was one of the biggest messages about him from everybody was man it's really crazy how you know he'll get beat on a play and then on the next play it's like nothing ever happened. And those are the sorts of things that obviously aren't really teachable at all cases but to have a freshman come in with that kind of mentality I feel like that's one of the reasons that Washington is so high on him and so excited to utilize him as much as possible whether that be in the nickel whether that be outside and have found different ways to move around. And so if you're going to move around Rashon Clark specifically to be able to get him on the field and so if Emmanuel Carly is back I love the depth and the versatility that we've seen from the secondary and how you're able to use some of these different guys but without him in something where I still have a couple of questions about the depth behind some of these guys but I think that with what we've seen from Jaron Jones early on in the year that there is a lot to like and there's a lot to be excited about in that capacity and in a game like this he might get a lot of things that he's going to do. And so it's one of those things where I'm very curious to see if he's going to be able to rise to the occasion of what an NFL caliber quarterback and Drake Lindsay who if you go and you do some research on the 2027 NFL draft he's sitting in a lot of the top 10 rankings at quarterback in this class which is expected to be be fairly deep.
And so if that's one of those guys where hey he's going to try to pick on Jaron Jones I think that that's a battle that this coaching staff is very excited to see what that could look like and I certainly am as well so that's just not to keep an eye on the defensive side of the ball but let's flip over to offense because obviously the big question on that side of the ball is Lan and Hatchett and Jed Fish said that he's hopeful that Lan is going to be able to give it a go this week and the messaging for a while now has been yeah he's going to be back in September we're trying to get him back as soon as possible. And I know I talked about this a little bit the other day but it's certainly important to note that Lan and told us during fall camp that he broke the skateboard bone in his wrist and that's something where the injury and healing has taken as long as it has is that area of the body doesn't get a whole lot of blood flow and so the healing process can be drastically slowed down at different points of time which is why the messaging is the way that it is but this is something that the more I look at the situation it's certainly very very important to see what that's going to be.
I'm sorry for us trading but if you are able to get him back this week I feel like it just solves so many of the things that you were looking for on the offensive line because land in just having as much experience as he does is somebody who can make all those calls for you in the middle of the offensive line and somebody that there's just so much chemistry with the guys on both side of them whether that be John Mills whether that be Champ Talia Leo or gear and Hatchett on the other side and so adding land and back to this mix would be so helpful because then all the other things that you can do is just make sure that you have to do that. Also a sudden that depth that you're looking for and why you brought Colt Dietrich into this program you are able to utilize him for that specifically instead of hey we like this talent but unfortunately land in is just you know like I said the healing process has taken a while for him to get back from this injury so we got to put him in the middle of the offensive line because we want to find a way to get him on the field and this is the best way to do that especially after gear and Hatchett got hurt during spring practice as well and also wasn't able to fill in at center. I'm very curious to see if you're able to do that because the the conversation comes back to one person in that regard and that's Cody grain and if Colt Dietrich is able to you know move back to his natural position of tackle I feel like we might continue to see some of that rotation with Colt Dietrich now at left tackle which again was the whole reason that jet fish and this coaching staff talk about bringing in Colt out of the transfer portal was to push Cody at left tackle and to give you some more experience depth at that position.
So I'm excited to see what the possibility of that would be if landed does return however if he doesn't I feel like we could see some more of John Mills at left tackle and it's certainly worth noting that jet fish said that he felt feels that Cody green had his best game yet against Eastern Washington so I asked him about that and one of the biggest things that and jet just continue to harp on as it came to Cody was he's certainly starting to get comfortable and he's starting to not try to see everything and take everything in because as as Jed said when you you're looking for everything you see nothing kind of deal and so to hear that Cody is starting to get a lot more comfortable is doing better with combination blocks and some of those different things that Washington is looking for from this young left tackle if you are able to rotate him at any capacity I feel like they're getting comfortable with that and again if Colt Dietrich starts at center. I think we're going to see that be with John Mills and I'm curious to see what that looks like from the standpoint of Anthony Smith is another one of these guys who looks like a high level NFL draft pick moving forward and just putting him on a island against your no your freshman left tackle is certainly something that would be advantage Minnesota right off the bat and if Cody is able to take a step forward and shows out in this game that's awesome but again to quote jet fish from what he talked about after the game on Saturday it's
we feel that it was a little unfair to you know rotate every single other freshman except for Cody so that's something where we see a little bit more of that and we see some more of John Mills at left tackle in this game. That's also something I'm going to be keeping an eye on in this regard because that's just one of those things where hey you got to find ways to you know just exploit the best matchups that you possibly can and if that's John Mills if that's Cody green whatever that is I'm very curious to see what that might look like. But one other thing that we certainly need to talk about that is going to be drawing some major eyeballs over the next week plus is the recruitment of five star address and Johnny George who sets commit next week. And we'll get to that right after a message from our good friends over at Fandall College football fans it's time to put your knowledge to the test with college football pick them from Fandall every week you're going to make 10 free against the spread picks and compete for a share of $500,000 in bonus best matchups. It's not only possible it's personalized so if you're tying the knot. Closing on a house or welcoming a little one you'll be ready for whatever life tosses your way. It's the right time to feel less stressed and more certain. That's a better way to money. Let's get started at nm.com. The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company Milwaukee, Wisconsin. If we come down the stretch here today I'm very excited to see how the next week plus plays out and the recruitment of five star Eddrusher, Jolani George who just reminded for all you every day is out there.
The number two overall rank player and top Eddrusher in the 2028 class according to rivals. He goes desert edge high school down in Arizona where Washington currently holds a pair of commits from four star quarterback Blake Roskop and three star wide receiver Zerick Sydney in the 27 class. As Washington hunts for their first pledge in 2028 this would certainly be quite a way to kick it off right as he's announcing on October 1st. Hey, it would be happy birthday to me, but you know this is something where I look at this final four of Auburn Miami, Wisconsin and Washington. I'm very intrigued by a lot of this because over the last couple of weeks we've seen him take a visit to Wisconsin. We saw him take a visit to Auburn. And so it's something where obviously there's always going to be that kind of recency bias of well hey Auburn's the last school he visited. So does that mean it's there. I feel like this is one where it might really be a toss up at this point in time. And yes, the crystal balls were placed in Washington's favor from rivals Greg big ins Steve will fall or excuse me Steve will fall and Brandon Huffman about a month ago.
And so this is something where I look at this situation and I do feel that Washington will have the edge and will be viewed as the favorite for that reason. I will continue to call them that on this show for that. But it's one of those things where things are always subject to change in this world of recruiting. And so I'm very curious to see how that's going to play out for that very reason. I know I keep saying that, but it's just the truth because there there's always going to be something that we don't know on the recruiting trail. Where it's always going to be, oh well, this could change or that could change. Obviously NIL is always a thing when it comes down to recruiting at this point in time. And I'm not saying that's what's driving this recruitment by any stretch of the imagination. But that's always something where you know sometimes that will happen and somebody might come in the last minute be like, hey look we're going to do this. So keep all that in mind as it pertains to Jolani George, if he were to, I don't know, say choose Miami out of this group. But it's just something that I'm watching because it's something where having Jolani on campus twice over the last six, seven-ish months of having them come up for the Junior Day in March.
Having him be here for the apple cup in September, or both very, very important. The fact that he's planning on coming back for the Indiana game in November. All of that is great. All of that is very, very important to you know if you do secure his commitment on October 1st to just continue to keep him locked in, keep him on campus, however possible. But it's also one of those things of what this does for Jed Fish and this coaching staff as a whole because it's one thing when you know you're able to go out there and win some of these big times. You can win some of these big time battles for high end players, right? I can think of a couple in the 26th and 27th class out the top of my head. Derek Coleman-Brusa, Ramzac-Fruin, Tavita-Noto, John Yawane, you've done a very good job of T.I. Humukai's being another blue chip defensive lineman, Chaz Gray, as well. You've done a very good job of being able to do a lot of that recruiting in region, right? All of those guys outside of Chaz Gray are from a more typical Washington recruiting footprint. I know T.I. being a Colorado guy is not always U.Dubs number one territory, but being able to go in there as you know one of these western programs and get those kinds of guys out to the west coast, out into the Pacific Northwest, into the big 10 is very, very important.
But doing that with a player of this caliber with an offer list of his caliber is something that's a completely different discussion. And so I look at what that kind of impact would be on this program because it's one of those things where he's going to come in day one, and that's going to be a dude who is expected to contribute right away in the rotation because of his ranking, because of his size at 6'5, 240 pounds, and because of what kind of athlete he is on film. But it's also one of those things of all of a sudden this sends a message to all of these programs in the Midwest down in the southeast, wherever and saying, hey, Washington can go out there and win for some elite players that, wow, yes, still in what has become Washington's traditional recruiting footprint in Arizona. That's something where we've seen a guy like Jolani George go to an Ohio state and Alabama Georgia or you know when staying on the west coast, USC or Oregon, the majority of the time. And so getting a player of that caliber to commit to Washington, to sign with Washington and to play for Washington is something that this coaching staff has done a very good job of, and we've seen that so far right.
Getting guy, you got it. First that starts in state. That starts on the west coast when we've seen that. Zayda Schraini-Sally, Derek Coleman-Brusa, Cody Green, Ram-Zack-Fruin, Jaron Jones being a guy out of California. We've seen Washington be able to do that with some of these local guys that are, you know, what Washington has traditionally been expected to recruit. But going out there and doing that for a high end five star, everybody in the country is wants this guy. Everybody in the country is after him and seems to have some kind of shot for him to choose Washington out of that group says so much and would be such an immeasurable level of impact on the recruiting trail. And you go and you look at some of the names that we've talked about on this show and that have visited Washington from the 28 class already. That sets into motion a massive chain reaction of just what kind of impact Jed Fish and this coaching staff have on the recruiting trail. And I feel like with what we've already seen in the momentum that this staff has gained between the 25, 26 and 27 classes to kick that off with Jolani George in 2028 would be absolutely massive.
And so that's something I'm going to be watching very, very closely. Another name I want to mention along the defensive line really quickly is I'm pretty certain I saw a four star defensive tackle Aiden Havie. At a east side Catholic on campus for the Eastern Washington game this past Saturday on an unofficial visit. And this is just another one of those dudes who again similar caliber to a to be to know to a John you want a a Derek Coleman Brusa in terms of ranking and what kind of impact he can bring right away six foot to three hundred 25 pounds in the middle of the defensive line. And that's just another one of those guys where again I think about the battles that Washington has shown they've been able to win and win consistently over the course of the season. So they've been consistently over the first couple of years of big name in state player doesn't matter what position they play to keep those sorts of guys at home. And for someone like Aiden who does have interest from you know the Ohio states the Michigan's of the world. I'm very encouraged by where he is in the recruiting process right now to see him continuing to come back to Washington and.
another one of those guys, right? When we talk about the depth that you need to succeed along the interior of the defensive line, Aiden Havily is another one of those dudes that adds size, that adds power, that adds just the high end sort of depth that you're looking for in terms of the talent, in terms of what he brings as a run defender, and then in terms of what you need from a physicality standpoint, in the middle of the defensive line in the big 10. So just know that another name I want you every day is out there to keep an eye on. Just like at Wide Receiver, there are a couple names I wanted to highlight because we've seen so many big name wide receivers on campus show interest in Washington since this coaching staff took over. So I want to talk about three here very very quickly. One of them is Carter St. Junius at a Manfielhized School in Texas, where just another one of these big-bodied four-star dudes who's got offers from everywhere in Washington is making a big-time push there, and it feels like that's one of those guys where as this coaching staff continues to emphasize size on the recruiting trail at Wide Receiver after seeing what they've done, between the 26 and 20, 20, 20, 27 classes in terms of trying to get bigger on the outside,
having another guy that's 6'2", 6'3", that can go up and win the football for you on the perimeter. He's someone I'm interested in in that regard because keep in mind that this is a class where Washington doesn't need to take four or five bodies because the depth is there, right, between what you've been able to build from 2025, 26, 27, and so I look at two other names in this regard of somebody to fill that Z-slash slot role who can move all over the formation and do a lot of different things with you. I'm looking at a pair of elite athletes in Emanuel Polons at a Southern California and Quincy Clay at Idaho as two guys who I'm very intrigued by, along with Hayden Koo as well as Southern California products, as players who I believe could fill that role very, very well. And I think that Polons is the one that stands out to the most of me in terms of long speed especially, and so I just want to keep that group of receivers' names in your heads as well, because one of the things to keep in mind is yes, the depth is great, the recruiting has been really, really solid at wide receiver over these last couple of classes, but the transfer portal, it always holds something that you don't expect. And so if there were to be somebody that does leave
the room at the end of the year for one reason or another, continuing to build and adding two or three more blue chip guys in the 2028 class, I can fill different sorts of roles is something that is very, very important. And so those are the kinds of guys that I feel like Washington is going to be not only heavily in the mix for, but trying to sell that early playing time with because they can fill so many different roles and they have the ability to be a little bit more selective and, you know, make a bigger push for some of these higher end guys and sell whatever it is playing time. The role itself that some of these guys would be able to play, I don't know specifically, but I want to keep an eye on all of that, but that's all I got for all you every day is out there today.
