It's time to put your knowledge to the test with College Football Pickum from Fandall, down with the fandall app today. And we got a really fun show coming up all year for days out there today on this Friday where you know how it goes. I had a game day where a little bit later on, we got our bold predictions and so much more fun stuff to dive into. But as always, we got our keys to the game on both sides of the football. And here on Lockdown Huskies, we always start on the offensive side of the ball. And when I look at this game against Minnesota, the biggest thing for me is containing this

Minnesota defensive line in some way. And obviously, yes, that's from an offensive line that has struggled a little bit through the early parts of the season. And we'll dive into all of that. But I want to dive into some of the numbers here real fast. Because first of all, this defensive line is led by a future high-round NFL Draft Pick in defensive end, Anthony Smith, who's a guy who's a little bit bigger. I think he's listed at 6'6", 280 pounds, something like that. I think it's what I saw where he can flex outside inside a little bit as well. And so I'm very curious to see what the plan is here because this Minnesota defensive line has done a very good job of creating havoc against the run. Then you've got 24 tackles for loss so far this season. That's good for number 11 in the nation. And one interesting set with that is that's just ahead of the Huskies who have 23 tackles for loss so far this year. So some interesting similarities there. This is something where I look at Washington's offensive line and finding a way to establish that physical presence, which you were unable to do in the first two games of the year. And then you go out there against an FCS opponent in Eastern Washington and you certainly look better against the run. I think that that was a promising sign.

But doing that against Eastern Washington is very, very different than doing that against Minnesota. So I'm super curious to see what that might look like this weekend because there's a whole lot that goes into it in terms of running the football where Lannan Hatchet looks like he's going to be a game time decision. And that's something where so much of what this offensive line plan looks like is going to come down to him where Jetfish said during his Thursday press conference that he's practiced more than he ever has so far in terms of this season so far this week. And so that's a really nice sign. But being a game time decision means it sounds like he might be medically cleared at this point in time. I'm not totally sure that was something that Jetfish didn't necessarily clarify at this point in time but we'll see what that looks like because if he does play that would most likely in my opinion at least kick cold detrick back out to left tackle where we might see a little bit more of a rotation between him and Cody Green where Cody got a couple series off against Eastern Washington and John Mills made his way out there. So it feels like there are a whole lot of different things that Washington can try on

the offensive line in this game. So I'm very curious to see what that might look like. And it's also something where when you look at the backfield you look at this running game which ranks 15th in the big 10 right now has hasn't been super effective so far this year. It's something where we're probably going to continue to see a 50 50 split between Traycouli and Brian Bonner where that's what Jetfish also mentioned during his Thursday press conference and that's something where obviously Brian Bonner rips off that 55 yard run against Eastern Washington last week and certainly that adds to his bottom line to some of those numbers. But Jetfish said that it's something where nobody has really established themselves as that lead back just yet. And so that's one of the things that I'm very curious with this game because like I said Minnesota has created a lot of havoc in terms of opposing run games. However, it's not a run game that when you look at run defense I should say by the numbers that's particularly been one of the better ones in the conference because the Golden Goal Fers also ranked 14th in the big 10 in rush defense so far this year allowing 117 yards per game on the ground. So that's something where they've certainly shown some cracks where obviously they played

a pretty tough non-conference game against Mississippi State. Excuse me that they lost a couple of weeks ago. So that's something where certainly that plays into these numbers a little bit but I'm very curious to see what Washington might want to do in terms of running the football because it's something where we know DeMod Williams is going to be very heavily involved in that category and you go and you look at that game against Mississippi State where they've got a really mobile quarterback who's super talented as well in Camario Taylor can get outside the pocket, can do some stuff with his legs as well. So when I look at demand it feels like he's going to continue to be a big piece of this run game. I don't want to say it feels like that sounds dumb. He is going to be a huge part of this run game. So I look at that and obviously he's going to be a focal point for opposing defenses right and that's something where looking at Brian Bonner, Trey Cooley, Answers to Noa and how they might factor into this run game as well. I'm curious to see if we might see a different sort of approach in terms of the rotation where maybe Ansu does get a little bit more involved in some of the short yarded situations.

Maybe we do see him continue to be involved on the goal line. I don't know but it's something where these two freshmen very clearly have been able to find a little bit of success and I don't know if it's something where Trey Cooley's just spent so much time on the sideline between the injuries he suffered in 2024 and 2025 that he's still getting a feel for things but that's one of those things where it's very clear that there is going to be something that you can exploit on the ground and for a run game that has struggled so far this year and along with an offensive line that hasn't played up to the standards that they set for themselves in the preseason. I'm very intrigued to see if that's going to be something where we can see Washington's offense start to find itself especially when you just continue to look down the schedule a little bit at what the next two games after this are going to look like you need to find a way to establish yourself on the ground in a game like this and so having to mod Williams in that regard is going to be such a huge help. But then I also look at this Minnesota past defense which has been relatively successful so far this year they currently ranked seventh in the big 10 allowing 153 yards per game through the air and that's something where obviously we saw Washington have its best

offensive performance yet this past week against Eastern Washington so again it's not that I want to read into that too much but seeing that this group was able to you know just find some confidence and find a flow was really promising and something that you certainly need to keep in mind moving forward and I look at this starting tree of receivers in Desmond Robuck Chris loss and Rashid Williams and those guys were all able to not just find success in the passing game but they were able to find success in picking up yards after the catch I think Jed fish said on Monday that the stat was 17 mistakles from the wide receivers in space in this last game and so again yes quality of opponent does matter here but that's something where we saw Washington go to so much more of the screen game and just quick stuff in general to get the ball out of Demond Williams hand where he completes 82% of his passes in this last game and just let these wide receivers make plays in space and combining that with what we talked about on yesterday show with letting some of these younger guys continue to get more involved in the offense in Jordan Clay Treas Davis

and Mason James I feel like there is going to be just one of these games where Washington is just finally going to be able to continue to unlock some of these young wide receivers in Big Ten play I should say because we started to see that in the non-conference slate and I look at a guy like Jordan Clay specifically in that mold because it's something where one of the biggest things in this game that we talked a little bit about on yesterday show as well is Washington has not been able to find success scoring touchdowns down near the goal line and a lot of that has been because of the struggles on the offensive line where it's been really hard for the Huskies to punch it in from the two and three yard line which has been really disappointing and that's something where in a game like this I'm very curious to see if Jed Fish does want to rely a little bit more on that passing game down near the goal line because of a guy like Jordan Clay who like we've talked about on the show before in spring practice when he was healthy during fall camp as well he was able to go up and over some of Washington's veteran corners including Emmanuel Carmel Dylan Robinson to make plays on these these fade routes that he likes to call in the red zone which is something

where obviously that's been a big part of this Husky offense since Jed Fish arrived because Denzel Boston was so successful at that in 2024 and 2025 and so that's something where coming into the year it felt like Jordan Clay was going to be a big piece of this offense but like I said he spent so much time on the sidelines during spring practice during fall camp that we just haven't really seen what his full potential might be just yet so that's something where as he continues to get comfortable and build chemistry with demand Williams I feel like we might see more of him and again in a game like this where Minnesota which is shown to have you know in terms of conference numbers here and above average past defense I'm I'm curious to see if that's one of the ways that Jed Fish wants to go out there and attack this Minnesota defense and try to find some ways to get his young guys some confidence as well as we look ahead at what the big 10 slight might look like but with that being said let's work sides of the ball here because Washington's defense as long as there are no penalties continues to look like one of the best groups in the nation but Drake Lindsay is going to pose a very tough challenge in the past game

and we'll get to that right after message from our good friends over at Fandool College football fans it's time to put your knowledge to the test with college football pickup from Fandool every week you can make 10 free against spread picks and compete for a share of $500,000 in bonus bets there are no entry fees and there's no way to required just make your picks before kickoff and see how your college football knowledge stacks up and you can follow the live leaderboard throughout Saturday to see where you stand you can even see how your picks compare with names like little Compton tailed on and Josh Payne having to actually lock in 10 picks makes every matchup a little bit more interesting it gives you something to track throughout the day and a reason to keep an eye on games you might normally overlook down with the Fandool app and play college football for free only on Fandool visit fandool dot com to get started this message is paid partnership with Apple card one of my favorite parts of game day is everything leading up to it getting the house ready for a watch party putting on my favorite teams hoodie and making one last run to the store before kickoff you know the routine and with my apple card I can hurt up to 3% unlimited

daily cashback on every purchase I make with Apple card using Apple pay not a month from now but every day applying the wallet app on your iPhone today subject to credit approval Apple card issued by Goldman Sachs Bank USA Salt Lake City branch terms and more at Apple card dot com Oh look at Minnesota's offense so far this year so much of it has run through quarterback Drake Lindsay where Minnesota has had a really solid year passing them all so far they currently ranked ninth in the big 10 yards per game at 277 and this is something where looking at what that offense has been so far this year Ryan Walters talked about it during his Tuesday press conference saying that hey yeah they're throwing the ball more than I think I've ever seen them do so and obviously when you have a quarterback like Drake Lindsay who's getting a whole lot of NFL love at six foot five 230 plus pounds who can you know to quote Ryan Walters again be that big traditional pocket type passer for you who can sit there make all the throws can stand in there and take a hit when need be all that kind of stuff like yeah you're certainly going to want to build around that guy and so looking at just kind of what it's going to take for Washington this game the biggest thing

for me the biggest key is this defensive line needs to show up and getting a linear Davis back where he's listed as probable for this game as his eddressure Logan George it does sound like a linearist is certainly on track to play and certainly sounds like you know again being in that same category that Logan George would be in that department as well adding additional depth to this defensive line is going to be very very important especially along the interior because I want to talk a little bit about minnesota's injury situation here as well where their son are ashen beers is listed as questionable going into this game I know he was taken out for a little bit in their last game but was able to return to the contest so very curious to see what happens with him running back to the areas tailors listed as probable I'll get to him in a minute but so much of this is going to come down to this defensive line needs to show up and do what it's done all year and that's wreak havoc where like I said a little bit earlier minnesota's defensive line has 24 tackles for loss this year Washington's got 23 so this is a group that's been able to show up and wreak havoc in a whole lot of different ways but looking at rushing the passer Drake Lindsay has only been taken down for three sacks so far this year and so looking at this rotation of pass rushers that Washington

is able to put out there there's so much that the huskies need to be able to do to find waste generate pressure and a lot of that will start with a linius and it will start in the middle because their minnesota's best players outside of draclinsey coming to the middle that offensive line ashen beers being won left guard Greg Johnson is someone who's gotten first round love in the 2027 NFL draft so that's another guy where I'm very curious to see what Ryan Walters might want to do to dial up pressure in the middle because it's very clear that that's a group that this coaching staff relies on and trusts in terms of minnesota so I really want to see what Washington can do in that department because if you can force some pressure in the middle and these guys on the edge can win these one-on-one matchups that they're going to see then all of a sudden you can force Drake Lindsay off the spot and that's so much of what this game is going to come down to because this is not a guy who's going to beat beat you with his legs and if that's something where every once in a while you lose contain and he runs for four or five yards and picks up a first down every now and again if need be so be it right doing that consistently is going to be frustrating but that's not

what the softens wants to do and I don't think that's something that we're going to see a whole lot of especially when I look at the athleticism that washington has at linebacker with their group of four guys of jake monto xrael xander zidish rinne solid but aluqda so looking at that I I feel like so much of this is just going to be on this defensive line to get after the quarterback and get him on the ground a couple times in this game I know getting sacks is you know a way to win football games shocker I know but that's something I'm going to be watching very closely in this game because draclan c has a whole lot of really talented guys to throw to one in particular that I want to highlight is jivan traisi got 17 catches for 240 yards so far this season so he's somebody who's not only able to make plays for them as a wide receiver and looking at this this matchup with whoever's going to be on the outside from washington as a manual carly as listed this question will come into this contest as is roshan carc and jethish sounded a little bit more optimistic about roshan during his Thursday press conference so that's something where I think it's important to monitor in this game but I also see jivan traisi as someone who could certainly be a dangerous part

returner and you know again hard hitting analysis here he had two part return touchdowns against eastern Illinois in their opener so that's a guy where for hunter green who's been one of the nation's best punters so far this year in terms of yards per punt keeping the ball away from that guy is going to be very very important so just want to make sure I highlighted all of that really quickly in terms of the past game as well because looking at what minnesota has struggled with it's the same thing as washington it's running the ball where they've got some really talented offensive lineman but they have not been able to figure that out so far this year they currently ranked 17th in the big 10 in russian yards per game at just a hundred and seventeen so this is something where if derriest Taylor is able to play in this game that changes things no matter what the numbers say and that's something where looking at you know again him being listed as probable that's a good sign for for his status and he deals with what it sounded like was a soft tissue injury but i i look at that and it's something where if he is on the field it doesn't matter what numbers minnesota's been posting in the run game that's a dude who can absolutely break off some big runs

break tackles and making explosive plays so that's another thing where looking at what washington's run defense has been so far this year they found a lot of success to the point where quarterbacks have been the leading rusher for all three teams they face so far this year and in a game like this where you know that traclin z is you know you're kind of kind of derrim to beat him with uh beach with his legs at a few different points in this game finding different ways to contain derriest Taylor assuming he's able to go is going to be very very important and so looking at again what you might be able to do in the middle of the offensive line uh especially where you need to find ways to create pressure there and just kind of break things down at the point of attack i'm i'm curious to see one guy in particular that i wanted to highlight as it pertains to that because he's going to be left one on one and he's someone who's been productive so far this year with three tackles for loss is jacoblaine where obviously he got ejected from the last game for throwing a punch and so seeing him back out on the field i'm sure that he's gonna have a lot of uh let's just call aggression to

take out on the opposing offense and that's a guy where again he's been very successful in terms of getting after the quarterback and uh stopping run games as well over the last couple of years where he led Washington and tackles for loss in 2025 as well so that's a really big piece of all of this and if jacoblaine is able to do what we saw him do all of last year and hold the edge and be productive in that regard as well i feel like that's something where minnesota might have some continued struggles when it comes to running the ball and so i look at all of that and i think that washington's defense certainly has an advantage in this regard because getting after traclincy is going to be important doing all these things and i look at jaren jones as somebody else in terms of just what this defense has been so far this year where he didn't necessarily perform perfectly in his first hour on the outside when you think about the one third down conversion he allowed and then the couple of pass interference penalties as well but that's a guy that this coaching staff is very very excited about and to bring it back to the injury situation as well if a manual

currently is forced to miss this game that's one dude where washington is certainly going to be relying on him on the back end a lot to just help this this front four and or front five depending on what ryan walters wants to do up there generate pressure because if he can continue to hold up on the back end like we've seen him do it various points in time through these first three games the that's something that would just be so beneficial with a guy like traclincy who again is not going to want to move outside the pocket but this all comes back to one thing and spend what is killed washington all year on the defensive side that's penalties this husky team has allowed 12 first downs by penalty so far this season and that's something where you look at this last game against eastern washington eight penalties for a hundred one yards all but one of those were on the defense and most of them were fifteen yard personal files as well or pass interference calls and so that's something where that's just been so frustrating to watch all year long so finding ways to play with discipline play with control and it goes back to what ryan walters was talking about on Tuesday

of hey we need to find ways to correct that where he called it unacceptable he said that those are things that if we don't see changes made pretty quickly that guys might find their way to the bench and we might see heavier rotations from these repeat offenders in some way shape or form and it's something where we've heard from jacomano and alice mcloffin after several games as those are guys who have you know some of the leaders of this defense that have committed those penalties saying it starts with us and we need to find ways to be better and to their credit alice has certainly played more under control after obviously the late hit against Utah state that helped move them further into the red zone on their late touchdown jacomano extended a drive for an unsportsman like conduct call against washington state it's some of these leaders you know making sure that that message resonates with some of the younger players as well where looking at penalties like the the late hit on devin high after nate bell gave himself up in this last game against eastern those are the penalties that especially cannot happen moving forward and so looking at what washington's

defense can be you look at the numbers you look at the the turnover margin you can look at so many different things to point to and say hey i'm very excited about this defense heading into big 10 play where i think they've got the bodies the athletes the talent to compete with anybody to go along with the scheme that Ryan walters is implemented but if you can't play under control those things aren't going to matter because you can go look at the four touchdowns that washington has allowed this year and on two of them penalties extended those drives you could probably say the same thing about some of the field goal drives as well where penalties allowed these opposing offices in you know games that you should have been able to run away from which obviously is way more on the offense than the defense but seeing those drives be extended in these close games and just having those things turn into points is something that's really frustrating and something that if washington does want to find a way to get back on track this year you need to find a way to iron that out because if the offensive struggles aren't figured out those defensive penalties could turn

frustrating points into losses in big 10 play so with that being said let's get into some bold predictions because it's time to have some fun and we'll get to that right after message from our friends over at odu running a business shouldn't feel like you're trying to connect a bunch of systems that were never designed to work together one app for accounting another for inventory another for sales and somehow none of them talk to each other that's where odu comes in odu is an all in one business management software that brings every part of your business together in one powerful platform from sales and accounting to inventory and marketing everything works in one place odu is one platform to manage grow and scale your business the best organizations know that success isn't just about talent it's about having everyone working towards the same goal and that's true in sports just like it is in business and when you look at this last game against eastern washington seeing a little bit more of a rotation along the offensive line that certainly helped spring some explosive runs and it helped washington just really find themselves on the offensive side of the ball at the same early struggles but what really impressed me was how smoothly it was implemented everyone knew their role everyone was on the same page and that's usually what separates

good organizations from great ones great organizations win because operations matter and that's why you should get odu odu is one platform to manage grow and scale your business try for free today odu dot com slash locked on that's od o o dot com slash locked on we've been the trust in experts since nineteen sixty because nobody knows tires better than we do and with over ninety tire brains we have an abundance of options in stock for your vehicle buy and drive today at america's tire dot com let's get you taken care of all right my my favorite time of the week here let's dive into some bold predictions here and i've got a couple of new categories that i want to throw it all you every day is out there let's start with the most important one what we just talked about give me washington going under fifty penalty yards this week that's something where we saw some improvements on the offense in terms of the holding calls that were certainly a big issue early on in the year those have died down a little bit now it's on the defense to find a way to figure it out and again just not

continue to let drives be extended by penalties and it's something where i i look at the messaging from Ryan Walters this past week and i feel like that's the the most serious we've heard this in terms of how bad the penalties have been and what the messaging from the coaching staff has been because we hear early on in the year like yeah this is a young team and they're going to be some issues like that but as those issues continue to you know impact older and older players where Jacob my lane excuse me and x-ray Alexander were both ejected from this last game obviously with with the the penalties they incurred that's an issue that cannot continue and so give me under fifty penalty yards because i think washington's messaging from the coaching staff and especially when you go and you look at some of the advanced metrics at how just killer some of these penalties are for a team that is seventeenth in the big ten and penalties against and penalty yards allowed those are just unacceptable metrics for a team that came into this year with very very high expectations and in terms of still sitting here with a three and a record there is a lot that's achievable but you need to

find a way to clean up penalties for any of those things to even start to look like a reality so let's move on to the office is out of the ball here one of our favorite subsections a bowl predictions here on locked out huskies is first career achievements and you know usually that's first touchdowns or first this or first act i got a new one for you every day is out there give me received Williams getting his first career one hundred yard game where i love this one because i think in this last game against eastern washington we saw what kind of threat he can be downfield for you in the receiving game we've seen them do that you know it's several different points now we saw him on the the flea flicker go and nearly score touchdown against uh Washington state as well where he's pushed out of balance at the three yard line and this is something where continuing to find other playmakers in the receiving game around Desmond Robuck is going to be very very important and for a guy like appreciate who we saw succeed again at all three levels of the field in this last game against eastern washington i feel like he's going to be one of those guys

to mod Williams is just going to continue to turn to and continue to rely on because that was the plan last year and i know i talked about this a lot as it pertains to Rashid but that's something that i don't think can be understated enough where he was supposed to be the wide receiver two on this team last season before the injuries really hampered him so i don't think we've seen everything that Rashid Williams can do and i feel like that's funny to say for a guy who's currently leading this team in touchdown receptions with three and so give me Rashid for a hundred yards because he's a guy that i feel we can see make place with the ball in his hands make contested catches downfield tiptoe along the sideline all of these different sorts of things and i feel like we've started to see him do a whole lot of that and i feel like last release game against eastern washington is something that can certainly help him gain a whole lot of confidence moving forward so i'm going to keep a close eye on him in this game i'm also going to be keeping a close eye on these running backs and give me two plus touchdowns from running backs where i feel like this one can be a little silly but at the same point in time with the struggles we've seen from washington's running game so far this year it's been a little maddening and so when washington gets a little

bit closer to the goal line i feel like to start big ten play jetfish michael switzer this offensive coaching staff they're going to win one of my ways to just continue to instill confidence in this offensive front and i don't know if that's hey we're gonna go heavy and we're gonna put on suce noa in the backfield at 240 pounds and see if he can fall forward for a couple of yards and help us out like we've seen him do twice already this year and score a pair of touchdowns on the ground i don't know if that's hey we'll see trade cool year brine bonner rip off a run and get into the end zone i want to do obviously you know specify without demon Williams in this category as well but washington needs to find a way to run the ball in the big ten and this Minnesota front is going to be enough of a test in terms of you look it again the tackles floss number and you look at what they were able to do so far or not do i should say when it comes to defending the run where like i said earlier they're 14th in the big ten in rush defense allowing 117 yards per game on the ground and so that's something where when i look at this this rushing attack there's so much

that washington needs to clean up but if that confidence that you were able to gain against eastern washington can carry over against a bigger stronger more talented front that's something where looking ahead looking at like i said earlier looking at what washington is going need to do against usc against iowa to find ways to succeed in this conference it's going to start by running the ball with people other than demon Williams and this is a game where you can find a way to take that next step forward and find a way to instill confidence in that side of your offense so again two plus rushing touchdowns from running backs in this game is bull prediction number three now let's flip over to the defensive side where give me two plus interceptions from washington this weekend where drake Lindsay so far this year has a four to one touchdown interception ratio and that's something where he's a very very talented quarterback and you see it on film right that's a dude who can layer throws to all three levels of the field and finds ways to you know push the ball down field into tight windows and he doesn't have a lot of fear in that regard but this is something

where washington secondary has been really good at taking the ball away so far this season the huskies have five interceptions already on the year and i look at this this unit as a whole where wither without a manual currently washington has found ways to get their hands on the football and i think that so much of that starts with the guy like Alex McLaughlin who i'll talk about here in just a second but i think that with what washington has been able to do on the back end in coverage with so much more than just the talent in terms of how ryan walters is able to scheme things up and just some of the disguises some of the different blitzes that he's been able to throw at opposing quarterbacks not just early in this season but last year as well and to see that this front seven has been able to execute a whole lot of that at a high level and then he obviously will throw different things at them with safeties and cornerbacks coming in from different angles as well i feel like we're going to see drake Lindsay get moved off the spot a couple of times and don't get me wrong he's very very good at throwing the ball away and finding ways to either you know just get the get the ball

out to a check down or different things like that but i think that there are going to be points in this game where he's going to have to try to push the ball downfield and make a play and washington is going to be there to take advantage of a bad throw or two so keeping a close eye on that and like i said for the last one here let's talk Alex McLaughlin because he has been arguably one of the best defenders in all of college football already this year he's got three and a half tackles for loss that leads the huskies he's got a pair of sacks he's got a pair of interceptions he's been so successful in every regard and he's a guy who has been a swiss army knife for the sucky defense he's moved all over the place he's done a little bit of everything so far so give me to open big 10 play this year a massive game for Alex McLaughlin with 10 plus tackles as the leader for the huskies in this game because really i just wanted a minute here to talk about Alex McLaughlin because i think that he's a guy who has been such an unsung hero not just locally but nationally as well because after what he was able to do last season he's just kind of already established himself as

hey this is a dude who's going to be very very consistent for this husky defense and i've been so impressed with everything we've seen from him already the season and so moving forward i feel like we're going to see so much more from him where that's a guy that ryan waltz knows he can rely on not just in the box in terms of what he can do against the run but dropping into coverage coming out the edge as an outside linebacker at different points of time we've seen him do a little bit of everything this year and i've been so impressed with everything Alex McLaughlin brings the table so i feel like there's a really really big game for him in store at some point this season and i feel like he's going to kick off big 10 play on a high note but that's all i got for all you every day is out there today thank you so much tuning in i really do appreciate it and if you like we have to offer here on lock down huskies please make sure to subscribe or every get your podcasts with that's youtube's Spotify after music games on music we're there everywhere we're updating the channel for new content every single day so please make sure to click that like button to the little bell so you don't miss we post new show plus any questions comments concerns drop right down below in the comments section and if you're audio only please if it's a five star
