Welcome to His Light, Your Path. Today Pastor Rod Haller Sr. shares a powerful devotional titled, Two Gardens. In this devotional, Pastor Haller will look at the Garden of Eden and the Garden of Gethsemane. We'll consider how the powerful choices made in these places have affected our lives today. And now here's Pastor Haller's devotional, Two Gardens. Genesis chapter 2 verses 8 and 9. And the Lord planted a garden, eastward of Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the site and good for food. The tree of life also in the midst of the garden and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And John chapter 19 verse 41. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden.
And in the garden a new sepulchre wherein was never a man laid. Adam and Eve were created and placed by God in the Garden of Eden. Everything was perfect. Adam and Eve were provided with food from that garden. They were to freely take and eat. But they had one restriction. They were not to take of the tree of good and evil. Satan entered that garden and he tempted Eve to take of that forbidden fruit. Eve knew what was right to do, but she was deceived by Satan. And she took of the fruit and gave it to Adam, who also partook of that fruit. They both violated God's word and sin entered the world. Thus we have a second garden, the Garden of Gethsemane. It is the garden where Jesus was betrayed. Judas betrayed Jesus and he was taken, tried and declared innocent, yet he was sentenced to death on the cross.
He willfully gave his life to pay for the sin that of all men. And whosoever believes in his work of redemption, well not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus could have called more than twelve legions of angels to set him free, but he willfully went to the cross because he loved the world. Let us revisit the Garden of Eden. Eve took of the fruit and then offered the fruit to Adam. But before Adam took the fruit, he was perfect and Eve was not. We must now appreciate that Eve was in a fallen state, but Adam was not. Eve's fellowship with God was broken, but Adam was perfect in his relationship with God. Therefore Adam had to make a decision. He looked at Eve and he loved her. He looked at God and he loved him.
But Adam could not have both. Adam considered his choices and he willfully took of that forbidden fruit so that he could be with his wife. This is why Paul wrote, 1 Timothy chapter 2 verse 14, and Adam was not deceived but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Adam was a type of Christ. In the Garden he chose to be with his wife, even though it meant death. Likewise, Jesus willfully chose to die and be buried because he loved the world. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believed within him should not perish, but have everlasting life. From the beginning man was given a choice by God. In the Garden of Eden a wrong choice brought sin and death into the world. In the Garden of Geth 70, Jesus made it possible for man to make a choice to have everlasting life.
That choice for every person is to decide to trust Jesus as their Savior apart from any good works. Believing in Jesus as your Savior is the most important decision that you will ever make for it determines your eternal destiny. Is there anything more important than where you will spend eternity? The choice is yours. Thank you for joining us for Pastor Holler's devotional 2 Gardens. We've reflected on how one Garden Eden became the place where sin and death entered the world through a single choice. And how another near Calvary became the place where Jesus, through his surrender and Geth Semini, opened the way to eternal life for us all. We hope this devotional has brought you encouragement. Tune in tomorrow to listen to another devotional from Pastor Holler here on his light, Your Path.
