Have you ever wondered why Abel's offering was accepted by God while Keynes was not? Today on his light, your path past a rod, Holler, Senior shares a powerful devotional titled the Offerings of Keynes and Abel, focusing on Genesis 4 verses 3 to 5. In this passage, the sons of Adam and Eve each bring an offering to the Lord. Keynes offers the fruit of the ground, and Abel brings the first born of his flock and its fat portions. But what made one offering acceptable and the other not? Find out now with Pastor Holler. Genesis 4 verses 3 through 5 And in process of time it came to pass that Keynes brought of the fruit of the ground and offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof, and the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering.

But unto Keynes and to his offering he had not respect. And Keynes was very rough and his countenance fell. Here we have the story of Keynes and Abel, sons of Adam and Eve. These two boys were somewhat into their years of understanding and accountability. Both applied themselves to worship by offering to God. These boys came from the same parents, yet they were very different from each other. Keynes brought of the fruit of the ground, Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock. Keynes determined that fruit of the ground would be acceptable to God. But it is not for man to tell God what is acceptable for an offering. It is for man to offer what God has ordained. In Genesis 3 we see the fall of man as Adam and Eve took of the forbidden fruit.

They tried to cover their nakedness with aprons of fig leaves. But these were inadequate. Just as Keynes offering was inadequate. A blood sacrifice was necessary to cover sin. Therefore God replaced the fig aprons with skins of animals. Genesis 321 unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothed them. Those skins were freely offered to Adam and Eve, and they took them and they were clothed. In other words, salvation is not by works of a man. That is why God had to make coats of skins for Adam and Eve. Think about it this way. God had to slay an innocent animal to cover their sins. Genesis 321 unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothed them.

This is a glorious picture of Christ. The Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world, he was the perfect one. Sadly, there are many people who think that salvation can be obtained by their good deeds. Way back in the Garden of Eden, we see that salvation was not by works of man. Rather, it was by accepting the gift of salvation by the shed blood of the innocent one. Abel understood this truth. Therefore his offering was accepted by God. Cain rejected God's truth. Thus he did not offer a blood sacrifice. Are you trying to work your way to heaven? Do you believe in some sort of works to please God so that you may have eternal life? But the Bible is very clear. Ephesians chapter 2 verses 8 and 9. 4 by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves.

It is the gift of God not of works. Thus any man should boast. That wraps up Pastor Holler's devotional, the offerings of Cain and Abel. As we heard today, the story of Cain and Abel is about much more than two brothers. It powerfully reminds us that we can't approach God in just any way we choose. God deserves our very best, not whatever we have left over. We hope this devotional has encouraged you to give God your very best in every area of your life. Join us again tomorrow for another devotional from Pastor Holler here on his light your path.
