Hey, Johnny, cool man, what's going on, we ready to go or what?
Hello, and welcome to latest episode of Tiger. I am your host, JP John Posman, the two man power trip. Of course, joining me is the former WF superstar himself, Tiger, I'll be saying Tiger, welcome and hey, do it today, sir. Thanks, John. I'm excited to be back with you. I had to bring this up off the top. We were talking about it briefly and I sent you a picture briefly. You're probably a little confused where I'm getting this stuff from, but my buddy, a long time close personal friend and co author of the Bret Hart book. He does a hybrid shoot sub stack, so he does a bunch of great writings about a bunch of random things. And once I tell him something or once something gets in his ether man, he gets like into the weed, he dives deep, he finds out attendance is ratings, all sorts of stuff. So I, and I know people won't be able to see this as clearly, but I'm going to pull it up and just show you it's the Tiger jeet saying drawing power. Basically what's listed here is Japan, Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, a bunch of different places, a bunch of different attendance figures, which most of them were sold out or over
the attendance, which means people were outside, which is kind of crazy. Like when you think about it, we had literally people outside that were interested in the show like 5,000 people outside Maple Leaf Gardens that were still hanging around because they couldn't get in, which just shows you the joint power. But this all came about because Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer Newsletter has a hall of fame and somehow Tiger jeet saying it's forgotten about. He's not in it. Look at this. A noke's greatest opponent is greatest rival. Drawing 50 million fans, you know, in a watching TV. What do you think about this? Were you surprised to see this? Yes, I was. I was very pleasantly surprised. I want to thank you and thank your friend for putting this all together. It encapsulates not all, obviously, it's whatever is accessible. But no, my dad was pleasantly surprised and he wanted to convey his gratitude to you guys as well for putting that together. He deserves to be in. I mean, right? I mean, I know this is coming in and the Akiwats Hall of Fame, a story inside of Dave Meltzer Readers, vote on it.
So it's not like a huge thing where everybody votes on it, but it's a certain sub stack of people. I feel like that he should be in. Yeah, no, it's a great honor even to be considered. And I know the Kali farmer, Ali Kali, and there's something out in New York and all that they all wanted to pay him respects and do some induction, this and that. Like I said, it's a great honor and I'm going to share something, but it's coming from a good place. Wrestling was a chapter on the book of life of Tiger Ali Singh. And dad probably had five chapters on his life book, right? So there are so much many more accolades and recognition that both dad and I have been blessed to receive out of the wrestling forum, right? Like we had talked about with the grace of God, the first school in the world named after
a pro wrestler, the first school, possibly North America, but statistics show in Canada to be named after a person of South Asian descent. That's my dad, Tiger Jeet Singh, right? And you know, streets and buildings and all that's just in honor of other Tiger, the foundation. And that's from communities, mayors, premieres, you know, the latest one, you know, the emperor of Japan and the government of Japan bestowed the highest honor in any foreigner that they can, the order of the rising sun, golden silver rays. So it's not that we don't appreciate and respect if someone would say, hey, you know, walk a fame or hall of fame, but it's like the WWE Hall of Fame, for example, why isn't Tiger, it's politics, right?
There's a handful of people that make our break, it's a lot, it's no different. It's an extension of the WWF brand, right? So we remiss, do we feel, oh my gosh, it's the end of the world that dad's not recognizing these hall of fame, we don't lose any sleep over it. But when it comes from someone like yourself, for example, who I have a great respect for and a growing friendship with, that means more to me that someone that really has affection and endearment for what dad and I have done, not only in the ring, but outside of the ring. And for you to even put that together, that surpasses any sort of hall of fame recognition that dad and I would ever, you know, think of. So I hope, I've said it in the right three tents. I don't want to offend anyone out there that, you know, my God, that are living and breathing
and dying on, you know, getting nominated. That's awesome. I'm just talking for us, for you and your friend to just put that thing together. It, it supersedes any of that kind of stuff because it's coming from historians like yourself, it's coming from fans real. You know, with the order of the rising sun, that wasn't a handful of cronies that, you know, former referees or managers, they kind of say, hey, no, this is the guy. We don't want this guy. That's really, really what I'm trying to convey. It is crazy when you look at it. Not only was he Antonio Noke's, one of his greatest opponents, the chic too, who's obviously a huge legend, him and the chic had all these epic matches. And then I'm looking at the sellouts, 20,000, 5,000 people on the outside. I couldn't get in. So the outage, if you will, they were waiting on the outside and it's chic versus your dad and the main event. I think it was one match on the card. You can look into it if that's not the one. There was one match on the card. It was dad against the chic.
And yeah, there was 20,000 inside. So I don't even know how they got that, right? So it was extra seats and God bless, the late great Frank Toney. And it's 5,000. I heard, you know, through the great vine coming down in the years, it was 10,000, 15,000. How do you count it? Right. We had a very small desk for all of the South Asians at that time, very small pocket. And you would remiss if not every member of every family was there from Sikhs, from Muslim, from Hindus. There was, you know, all the power, you know, the British trying to separate and divide India into all these. But when you came to this country, everyone got together. And Tiger Jeet Singh was their hero. So yeah, so I think 5,000 on the outside is a little bit shy. But you know, at least they did make a footnote. Yes, I love that. So cool though, like to really want, once you see something like about somebody like, oh, man, I want to study their history. I want to see more about them.
I want you because obviously I wasn't there for his pride. So like you love going back and these historians that put this stuff together and go back and look at this stuff. It's just one of those things like, wow, what a, what a legend. But not only that, it's like, man, what a drawing card. He was. It's amazing to look back at. It is amazing, you know, and I know we'll get into it. But I'll wait till we get into it to mention, you know, the Japanese emperor, the Japanese council general at the Gulf tournament, what he shared with all the attendees during our Gallaud dinner. Look, please go now. Yeah, because I wanted you to do it before. But they're like, wait for it to go on air. Yeah, go for it now. Yeah, it's good stuff. Yeah. So the whole banquet, right? I feel like 300 really mover and shakers, influential business people were there from, you know, dignitaries and members of government and to, you know, just unbelievable corporate citizens. So our esteemed council general of Japan that's based here in Toronto.
Matsunuga song, Mr. Matsunuga. So he mentioned and he said, and he had a delegation of probably 10 CEO presidents of every major Japanese corporation in Canada that came in. So you had CEO Subaru Mitsubishi, Canon, Toshiba, Toyota, Honda, like they all came to this Gulf tournament. So they had a center table there. And so he goes, for those of you in this room that did not witness the prowess and the influence that Tiger jeet sing had, I would encourage you to please approach and engage one of our members of the Japanese delegation. And they were all beaming ear to ear, right? And he was now living in that moment when they were kids.
And I remember even the new CEO of the Canon, he came to me and he was a kid again, you know, he's probably my age, but he goes, Mr. Sing, I remember watching you 1985. I was front row with my father, you versus giant Bubba. Like it's unbelievable at this day and age, right? And you don't have all the YouTubes. You don't have all that kind of stuff. We didn't have social media back there for it to have carried over over the decades. You know, I remember talking to Sean Michaels, he goes out of sight on a mine. You're not on TV for a few weeks, they forget you. This man, you know, and once again, from a son, it's very humbling and I get emotional on it. If I pass away tomorrow, I can pass away fully happy and content that, okay, dad's legacy is being remembered. You know, that was my dream, if you remember, when I was 18, that's the only reason I got
into this crazy business. But it's with God's grace, it's persevered. So he goes, you know, the golden time they made a reference, golden time of wrestling was dad's time in the early 70s. He goes, that was the golden era. And if you talk to any Japanese historians, they'll tell you that Tiger Jeet saying was, and this is not a shot to anyone else, right? Like I'm just talking about that. And historians, because you know me and you were factual. Yes. You go, the greatest draw was Tiger Jeet saying and Antonio Nokey during the golden era. Right. He said something like 40 to 50 million viewers watched my dad's match against Nokey. Now, just put that into context of today. And if they get over 2 million or 1.5, you know, and with the networking of, you know,
social media and that's unbelievable. Like 70, like the mid 70s and they were drawing that number. So basically that captivated the entire country because maybe the population wasn't over 100 million, right? It was less than 100 million. And 50% were watching. I can't, words don't come to me to try to express that impact. It's crazy. Pretty damn nuts when you look at it. So hopefully my buddy says he's going to work on a whole article for his substack hybrid shoot if anybody wants to check that out. So he's going to work on that and it's basically putting out there that he should be in the wrestling observer, Hall of Fame. Shock your friend. Yes, I will. Shock hasn't been in already, but hopefully he gets, I know I voted for him this year because I had to have a vote and I did vote. God bless. I know you put a couple of extra votes in there. Yes. Yes.
Now, we, he, of course, Tiger G. Tsing, he's a topic for maybe a couple of other episodes. I mean, there's so much within his career, but I wanted to bring this up to you just because the basically the day passed, you know, I believe it's almost 30 years ago. So it's 29 years ago, one night only 1997. Kind of crazy. There's some controversy not only involving used like surrounding the show, but with Bret Hart, there was a huge cut. It's so weird. It's like the UK version and the US version are two completely different shows. It's very weird. So one night only, when I first say that what comes to mind you versus else, no, or what comes to mind first when you think about one night only? Yeah, just, you know, now and retrospect from this time or when put my mind in that, at that time. No, right now, like, what do you, when you look at back, think about it. Just another example of Jim Moross trying to sabotage, right? And now it's on the pay-per-view. Not giving the house shows, not giving the opportunity to, you know, hone your craft.
And then boom, you know, throwing you out there. So was I ready? Absolutely not. Did the best that I possibly could, given the circumstances and in all the credit to Al Snow. God bless him. I have such great respect. And I know we have a wonderful mutual relationship in Den the Beast Severant. And he tried to do his best, but also, you know, what was the reason for it, right? Remember, you know, typically, stereotypically, if you would traditionally speaking, if you're going to bring in a talent, you want to get as much return and much money out of him. And you try to, like, get a return by putting him house shows and, you know, on TVs and pay-per-views so you get a return. But that wasn't why I was brought in. Game day always tastes like a win with crave for the seafood from Gortons. From beer-battered fish to coconut shrimp to new taco tenders, Gortons has been making
seafood worth celebrating for over 175 years. Straight from the freezer to the air fryer or oven, it's the easy and reliable way to keep everyone fed without missing a minute of the action. Because when the snacks are this good, everybody wins. Visit Gortons.com to find more restaurant quality recipes. Promotion pricing may be lower than meal pricing. I don't know about you, but I get pretty excited when football season rolls around. That's why I always make a stop at total wine and more before kickoff. Whether it's craft bourbon, cold beer, or ready-to-drink cocktails, it's easy to build
a lineup that keeps everyone happy. And when I'm getting everything ready for game day, it's nice knowing I'm getting the lowest prices. Make total wine and more part of your game day tradition. Spirts are not sold in Virginia and North Carolina. Drink responsibly, be 21. Rodin, so Vince could redo his international TV deal. So they got their return, so this I signed that signature, they got the return on their investment 100 times over, because selling the TVs and rights, especially back then, it was all on beta tapes. They were making gazillions of dollars on the tapes back then. So they got the return, but that was not relayed over to the executive people, like the Ross and all them. So from what I heard, and someone brought that attention to me Jim Ross, Al Snow's interview, he was still thinking Jim Ross that way, was still thinking traditional, oh, you know, we're promoting in India, we need an Indian talent. That's so much bullshit. And it just shows you how much attention the clueless he was. And that was the same messaging that obviously he was feeding to Al Snow, because if I quote
him from his interview, he goes, I was brought in and to help build and put over Tigrally Singh. And he wasn't with the WWE at that time, I think they pulled him in from ECW or somewhere to come and help me. And I think Al said, you know, what's with this? And he goes, well, you know, we need an Indian to draw Indians. And rightfully so Al said, he goes, that's not what you need. He was Tiger wasn't ready at that time. You just need talent, you know, like we've already shared, Brett the Heman heart was like over, way over in India that he was probably even, very close to what he was in Canada. Right? And Undertaker. So we have, and it just shows you how they were kind of stuck in their thinking, not this. That's why Vince was leaves and bounds ahead of whatever executives he had. Those guys, they were up coming up in the 60s and 70s, right?
Think you need that local guy from Memphis, Tennessee to draw, you know, the people from Memphis, Tennessee. You just need unbelievable talent. So he'd try to, you know, once again Jim Ross didn't understand it. So he tried to marginalize, oh, we need Indian guy to draw Indian people because they had a huge Indian population in England as well. Yep. And not communicating that, hey, listen, this is someone that we got to build. And obviously you didn't say that because he was trying to sabotage it, you know, because if you were trying to build, you would get this young kid on as many house shows as possible. So it was very unnerving that way, right? You could just feel it in the ring. There was, you know, and once again, no, there was no slight on Al snow. He did the best that he possibly could with this upstart Tiger, at least, and get that time. But you, you are right. There was lots of distractions happening backstage at that time. I don't think Brett was with us in England at that time.
I'm not sure. Can you confirm that? Oh, he's on the show. Oh, yeah. So the first undertaker is the kind of like the semi made event, which should have been the main event. Yeah. You should have been the main event because I know there was stuff happening with him and Sean Michaels at the time. And I think Sean Michaels was against David Boy and there was some nonsense that he didn't want to drop the belt to David Boy in his home country, right? And so it was just a lot of stuff, but I was so naive and green. All that kind of stuff came to light after when I started learning what's happening. I was kind of like really in a cocoon in the shell in that situation. But interestingly enough, I debuted the, you know, the bulldog from the top rope. And I remember coined it. I like to call it the tiger balm. And I remember telling Vince, like Vince is that pretty cool tiger balm. He goes, Oh, like the heat rub. And I said, yes, I like that. I just think it is a tiger balm. He was 100% we're going to call it tiger balm.
He goes, JR, you're going to tie your bomb when you're doing the announcing. Guess what happened? They asked me to call it the bulldog from the top rope. Yeah, didn't get over. Yeah, didn't get over. They didn't get no interest to get it over. He was so upset within himself that it was just spewing negativity everywhere. So Michaels was going for the European title. Bulldog, you know, is the European champion, which is so interesting that Bulldog in the UK, you would think would be going over. Well, we'll get into that a little bit because it's UK, but Michaels refuses to lose. He wants to win and he wants to go over, even though it's the UK. And it's kind of the bulldog market, you know what I mean? Bulldogs. Yeah, 100%. But once again, you know, and I think Shawn Michaels will tell you this as well. I haven't talked to him in over 30 years or 20 years. Right. But he goes, there was the old Shawn Michaels and there's a new Shawn Michaels. The old Shawn Michaels didn't want to work and didn't want to cooperate. And was in a dark period of his life.
And you know, now it's kind of like, you know, it's a different person. You get older, you know, hopefully get wiser and in retrospect, you see the error of your ways and you own up to it. And I think he's owned up to a lot of stuff, right? That what he was doing was not in the, not in the best interest of anyone. He was just looking at best interests of Shawn Michaels at that time. So just going back to Alice, no for a minute here. So we're talking about obviously he, he in that interview, he's very critical. Not you, but like the logic behind it, basically, like pushing the Indian guy for the Indian fan base in the UK. I don't know about this. We're just assuming fans would just pay to see Tiger Ali Singh because of his ethnic background. He, he's not for that. Like you said, he's more like if the guys tell did they'll be, not necessarily have to be the background, but that's very old school thinking that, I mean, he's obviously ripping it apart, but that's the Vince old school mentality thinking of it. Yes. And Alice, rightfully so, you know, when coming with new talent, doesn't that? But with all due respect, and I say this with the greatest humility, I'll tell you this,
it's all because of dad. When we arrived in the UK and when all the talent were kind of getting ushered into the buses, you know how many people were waiting for dad at Heathrow Airport? Oh my God. A lot of people. And there was motorcails, there was Rolls Royces, there was Mercedes, everything to pick him up because they heard Tiger Jeet Singh's coming. And Vince saw all that and he was very happy because he had no ego. Then he goes, this is my, this is my guys now, right? And how do you think that went over with Jim Ross and stuff? Probably not good. Yeah. So even intentionally, this is just who we are for God's sakes, right? We're not rubbing it in anyone's face. There was no planned agenda. If they heard through marketing or whatever and his Tiger Jeet Singh is coming, boom. You had so many people with Garlands, it was like we were in India, you know, so to that point, that's where maybe Al Snow and Jim Ross don't understand that perspective or maybe
they do. And it just wasn't communicated in that particular interview because you know, there's sound bites all over. But that's the kind of respect that dad would garner anywhere in the world. Like we're going to Japan right now. You don't think there's going to be a whole bunch of loving, wonderful supporters over there. And you know, you have, they're setting up meetings right now, John, and you know, they're trying to facilitate meetings with the emperor of Japan, you know, members of cabinet, the pro. Tiger Jeet Singh. You know what I mean? Like he's earned it, right? So that's where it goes back to when Jim Ross, when Vince was looking for, you know, that superhero South Asian guy that's going to go across all demographics and countries. He went to Bret Hart. He didn't go to Jim Ross. He didn't go to Bruce Pritchard. He didn't go to Jim Cornett because they were very marginalized territorial regional. Bret, he's global.
He's international. He's come up through the ranks, you know, he knows. And so Vince in confidence went to Bret Hart and said, I need to sign somebody or we're going to have issues, you know, and he said there's only one person that comes to mind. Tiger Jeet Singh. He goes, yeah, yeah, he goes, he's not just a wrestling star. He's a statesman. You know, he passes all throughout all. There is nothing one particular vertical that encapsulates Tiger Jeet Singh. He's here. He's here. He's here. And so, you know, once again, hats off to Bret Hart. You have that vision and you have to give credit words to Vince McMahon, not listening to any noise and actually going to the source that would best provide him the advice that he needed at that time. So everything happens for reason. Like we're all pieces of this puzzle, you know, and that's how I ended up there. Vince basically obviously puts Al Snow in this match with you, right?
You know, but Al says, you're not ready for this spot. Do you agree? Yes, he's right. He's right. What's fun? Remember, I was, I have had no house shows. I've never given that. And over my five years, the most house shows I was ever booked to perfect my craft was probably 20 or 25. So Al Snow doesn't know that. He doesn't know the conversations I had with Vince McMahon leading up to it. He doesn't know any of the TV content. He doesn't know that I wasn't working full time. So you know, Al Snow responded in, in a way, whatever information and knowledge he was privy to. So he's right. When you look at it, right? So he comes in obviously he's going to be lead cast. He's going to rest of you in this pay-per-view. But when I was talking before about the UK version versus the North American version, it was really weird. Did they ever mention to you like, hey, this is going to be just for the UK and not for the US? Or like, how does that kind of come about? And do you even know when it's going to come about?
Because in the States, we didn't even know Brett, the title of his undertaker until why I had no clue. I had no clue. Okay. I was just trying to, you know, I was a green horn once again, naive. Like I didn't even understand the makeup of why am I in a pay-per-view. I don't want to have any build up, right? And God bless her. You know, Linda McMahon was every day in that trial. She heard everything. And who was given the act shortly thereafter, that trial. It was this guy. It was this guy, right? He was called out and we had all the evidence and he was discredited. And this was used as an example as well. So here's like the crazy thing when you look at that show. So Brett's the champion. We don't know yet about all the inner workings of, hey, we can't pay 20 million dollars. We're losing the WCW. We're getting killed here. All the stuff with Brett, right? We didn't really know that going in.
But we know that he's the world champion and he's fighting undertaker and it's supposed to be the main event. Then you look at like the poster and stuff. He's either not on it and undertaker's not on it or they're in little tiny pictures and Shawn Michaels and Bulldog are in the front. Which is fine because Bulldog obviously UK draw. We know about it. Obviously he's from the UK. He's somewhere in the 92 with Brett and him in the main event. I mean, it works out. It makes sense, right? But it's weird though, the WBF champion, the guy who's wrestling are kind of like after thoughts. Is that something that's going on behind the scenes that you could see like the political infighting there? Obviously with Shawn Michaels and Brett. You know, you just you just felt the energy, right? But I was not privied in any locker room conversations or whatever. I would hear things after the fact like, you know, when Owen would tell Brett, you know, when what's his name? Shawn Michaels, kind of promo, sunny days or something like that. So you know, you would be hard pressed not to know that there's some issues, especially
when you I was there in that vicinity when Owen was sharing that he was very disbanded. He was not happy. You know, this is what is being said about his brother, right? Brett was not there. I forget what Sean was saying or whatever, but Brett seen it on the TV after whatever and seeing you. And then you hear about the fight and, you know, I wasn't there. But then you hear Brett pulling his hair, pulling Shawn Michaels hair out of his head and all that kind of stuff. But I wasn't there. But you could definitely tell there was like huge egos, right? I was not there before, you know, they had to click. I came after and actually funny story. When we landed in La Guaradi to get to Stanford, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash were at the airport too and going, I think going down south. Wow. Wow. Yeah, there was some pleasantries exchange.
They both paid respect to dad, right? And dad introduced me and all that and Sean Scott Hall said, you didn't go, hey, you don't say any of that. He just said, he goes, Tiger, you're with the wrong company. He goes, there's more money down south. That was my exchange. First, the last exchange was gone. And, you know, so then I learned later, like everyone is so fucking miserable. Everyone is, you know, just, you know, not necessarily shit disturbing, but taking little shots, you know, taking little shots here and that just to make themselves feel happy, right? Yes. That is typical hall though. He's just sarcastic or was sarcastic. Sorry, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Not a sarcastic, right? But it's the first and last time I met him and he goes, hey, it's really nice to meet you. Hey, great, great. But he goes, he didn't go, hey, yo, he goes, but the money's down south. You're signing with the wrong company, something like that. Yes.

But I'm like, oh my god, because I'm already nervous and I'm like, green and I'm Scott Hall. This reads a Ramon. And then like, you know, a little bit star-struck, holy shit. But yeah, it just like, you know, is one of the boys. So that was a nice welcoming from Scott Hall for me. Yeah, welcome to the other VF pal. As he's leaving. Yes. As he's leaving. Yes. So this pay-per-view, it's supposed to be a UK only pay-per-view.
So it's literally just for the UK September 20th, 1997, over 11,000 in attendance, Birmingham, England, any sea arena. Now the buy rate is out there. It says it's just 20,000, but that's just the UK. So that's a pretty good number just for the UK. And obviously, you know, we're not counting the North American sales because there is no North American for you sales. But there will be a North American tape. So there will be a, you know, a NHS tape of it. So on that tape, or I'll do the UK and then I'll mention this version. So Hunterhurst Hemsley versus Dude Love is in the UK and the US version. Tiger Ali Singh versus Leave Cassities in the UK version, not in the US North American version. Headbanger's versus Loose Briequist with a tag-team titles is in both. The Patriot versus Flash Funk is in the UK version, not in the North American version. LOD versus The Godwins is in both. Vader versus Owen Hart is in both. Fred Hart versus The Undertaker for the WWE F World Heavyweight title is in the UK version,
not in the North American version and Michael's versus Bulldog for the European title is in both. Isn't that kind of crazy if you think about that list? You get taken off and Brett Hart for the World title, the big match. Like, you would think it's the main event. Maybe not going on list, but World title. Brett, The Undertaker for Christ sake and it's not even in the North American version. Like they're almost writing Brett out of their history or taking off the poster, taking them off the tape. That's interesting. Yeah, first of all, mine being off is probably a good thing. And once again, maybe that was my house show. Like for God's sake, you know what I mean? Like one man, like 20 months, I get a house show and it happens to be a paid preview for me. And but for Brett, I guess you could look at it a couple of things. Number one, like you just said, a perspective of maybe trying to erase them, get them out of people's minds. Or maybe, hey, why give away the Brett Undertaker match for free?
Right. Oh, that's a different word to look at it. They didn't look at it that way. But you know me, I'm always the glass half full kind of guy. Yes, yes, that is true. And from a business perspective, I go, yeah, why am I giving away the farm? You know what, I already got Sean Michaels and Bulldog. Boom, that's my main event. And maybe they wanted to test out Undertaker and Brett Hart. Maybe it wins his mind. Maybe go, let me just see how this thing works in front of this proud and all that. And because anyways, that's that's my two cents. And when you look at it, though, from the Brett perspective, he knows it's going on. They can't pay him anymore. Now they're taking them off tapes, taking them off posters, like, okay, but they're not taking the title of the film. So what is, like, what has been thinking about kind of weird in this match? This match is awesome because I remember I got this tape from George Mayfield, the old tape collector. I know a lot of those more fans will remember that guy, awesome guy, but he used to have all
the tapes. And I remember years, years and years ago, God, this is probably, I mean, literally almost maybe right after it happened. But I got the VHS version of the tape and I saw the Brett Hart versus Undertaker match. It's a half hour. Brett wins by a disqualification. It's awesome. It's one of Brett's best matches. And I'm like, how the hell does this get open? And this is amazing. Like, oh, my God, it's just awesome. It's cool. It's cool. Once again, this is grand genius. I don't want to give away the gold for free. Yeah. Yeah. Could be. It could be you. You might be right on that. I'm a big fan of Brett and all his matches were great. So I'm just going to leave it as that. Maybe they were saving it. And yes, there was lots of stuff happening backstage, which I was not privy to. But as I was a typical green horn, you already know not that Vince Brett needed any saving. But I think, you know, I came on the record and I got in shit for coming back and saying, it was a worse decision. They could have done something ago and you're going to see a lot of guys leave me, including
possibly yours truly. You know, I was, I was in the moment. I was green. I was hot. They did this to my, my, my WF hero. And I wasn't smart enough to say, hey, listen, but then Brett told me months later, he goes, you know, what, for your best interest, I know how you feel and I love your dad and everything, but just keep it to yourself. You know, because it's not going to do you any favors. And they were out, I think also money, I don't think money is an issue. You know, I'm just looking at it from business. And I think it's whoever has Vince's ear the most, right? And I don't think, you know, some of these executives that, you know, won in particular, I heard him a couple of times not speaking very positively about Brett, right? And so on the face, yeah, Brett, Brett, Brett, but on the back.
So I was already kind of smelling what was happening. And you know, it's water on the stone, you know, water on the stone. It will, it will eventually have an effect on that stone. And who was in Vince's ear all the time? No, we can do this or we can do this. We can save this because it's very, even in business, you don't look at my situation, right? Where I didn't get signed because there was a legal lawsuit, they could have walked away, but then we did it. This one they actually signed with Vince with Brett, that extension and that money. You can't just walk out of a contract. You know what I mean? You got to pay the value of that contract. It's like baseball and anything else. You got to pay that face value or someone else, you got to pay it to get out of that contract. We don't just walk, right? And Vince is very, I mean, sorry, Brett, he's a very astute businessman. We have the same entertainment lawyer in Toronto.
So I knew he had good representation in dealing with the contracts. He was a great guy, great lawyer, entertainment lawyer. So the once again, I wasn't there, but both dad and I were there for Brett as friends should be, I'd have survivor series when all this shit came down and we were in the same hotel and I called him. I said, dad, like to see you, he came to the hotel room and dad gave a big hug. I gave a big hug. I said, nothing's changed, man. Like, you know, we still love you and you're awesome and this has done nothing for you. It's going to make you bigger and he was really appreciative and respectful of that. He has a lot of respect for dad. And once again, vice versa, it's reciprocal for both of us to him. Yeah, we were there. That's the only stuff that we got exposure to. So it's so interesting, like as far as you wrestling for the show, you're 13 total matches for 1997. You hadn't wrestled basically since April.
They bring you back in August. You have four matches and then here in September, you have basically one match and it's the Pay-Per-View match and your wrestling else know. So it's like, what in the hell is going on here? Obviously, Al's not really knowing that you're literally at 13 matches all year crazy. No, but like what a kind of real whirlwind. It's so they bring in for this. You get the win. You beat LeaveCast at the AK-Altz. No, you had your dad with you. You only win. It's for four minute match, but it's like, okay, then they do nothing with you. It's such like a weird, just like random thing. Yeah. And once again, Vince is so busy, right? To have Vince's attention, it's got to be something very important. Otherwise, he leaves it off to his minions, right? So Vince, because it was so important, he came to warehouse. He personally was involved. He was the only guy involved in negotiating the contract and signing the contract because it was a lifeblood for the renewal of the TV contract. He was not going to trust any of these guys.
And but after that, the responsibility, the only falls on whoever's responsible for booking. So maybe in Vince's perspective, it was like, oh yeah, we're going to have him peep review. I don't think he questioned that. How many house shows is he getting? I don't think so, John. I think he just thinks that, okay, the guy's been on the road. That's a normal phone call. He's signing talent. I passed it off to these guys. They're my bookers. Why should I question? And okay, and no one said, hey, listen, Vince, I know you want to do this. Or I don't even think it was Vince. Like I told you, I wasn't signed as talent. Right? I think it was, you know, these guys, one of these guys, hey, we should put Tiger on the peep review. And things go, oh yeah, great. Where's he been? You know, when he went, because that deal was done. I'm no longer in his radar. He got what he needed out of me and I got what I required, which was awesome. But then it's left off to these guys.
And so when probably a couple of them put it in the year, he goes, yeah, let's put them on there. Where's he been? And you know what, that's no different than a comment. Carl, the marker made to me. When he was visiting HQ in Stanford. And I think we had lunch a couple of weeks later. And I'm sure by now, like everyone's familiar in the old Stanford headquarters, you get to the fourth floor. And as you're walking down the elevators to Vince's corridor, Linda was on the left. Vince was on the right. And in the center, you had all this glass. And it was all of, you know, images of the wrestlers. Really large, right? And there's one in there and it's a big show choke slamming me. Right? And so Carl's sitting down and we're talking, we're having lunch. He goes, hey, I was talking to Vince. I said, Tiger's made it on the, I guess they call it their wall of fame or whatever it is, right? Yeah. And I just happened to be the guy getting the beat down. So I ended up on there and he goes, Tiger's going to be really happy.
He made it on the wall. He goes, he goes, what's happening with Tiger? Where's he been? And quote, that's where Carl told me. He goes, Vince, where's Tiger Ben? Damn. Well, obviously Vince doesn't book the talents to the show. I mean, we know that. Yeah. This is a book, did I let you just see me once in a while coming around? Right? And so if that once again, it was all exposed. It was all internal sabotage. It wasn't, I wasn't paranoid and I, it wasn't a conspiracy theorist. It all was proven. So we're good. When you look at one night only here in 97 and we're kind of like just looking at it. Okay. So Hunter House sounds like a China beat dude love that match goes like 13 minutes. That's, you know, fine. Good stuff there to continue the feud. Like I said, you beat Al Snow, the headbangers beat Bariquoise, the Patriot beats Flash Funk, LOD beats the Godwin's, Vader, B.O. and Hart, Brett beats Undertaker, but it's via DQ. Good great match. Went about 30 minutes, great match. And then the mate, here's the controversial part to me anyway, or weird part to me.
So it's show Michaels with the X, which is China, Hunter, or Somzi and Rick Rude at this point, defeat the British Bulldog with Diana Horsmith via technical submission. He passed out in the, in the figure four there. So show Michaels in 23 minutes wins the European championship. You might say on the surface, okay, that's fine. Not really when you're looking at the market. Like why would Bulldog lose in the UK and then you start to hear and see the dirt sheets, the old, so the stuff. Very controversial. Michaels basically had to win, wanted to win. Like yes, obviously it's Vince has the final call, but it was a lot of political pushing and maneuvering. So am I crazy to think that Michaels should have definitely lost and done some sort of schmiles. Like why is Bulldog losing in the UK kind of strange to me? 100% you're right. He should have lost that. And we're talking about the European title. On the whole spectrum of things, where does that fall in the total pool is probably near the bottom. If Bret Hart lost to the British Bulldog in the Wembley,
where does this stand next to that? Right? So you're 100% right. It should have dropped it. But being a leader, being the boss, you want to deal with the less of two evils. And I think Sean Michaels, it was just like a child, two children. One is always throwing tantrums and all that. Guess who gets always the short end of the stick. It's the one that doesn't. Right? So okay, don't worry, Billy. Let him have the extra piece of the pie. I'll take care of you. Right? And it's no different than that, right? It is absolutely no different. Like, you have one child, this is birthday. And the other child is bringing putting the tantrum. Why didn't he get a present? You know what I mean? So I look at it like this, it's like, holy shit. There is the sibling that's always putting up it. And now the parent hears Vince. And he's just going, he probably talked to Davey or Davey.
Listen, I'm going to take care of you. You know what? This guy is making such a sting. I don't want him to know show. I want him to have a good match with you. So let's give him this little thing to make him happy. But don't worry, I'm going to take care of you. And I think you've heard, I'm going to take care of you. It's not the first time you've heard of it. It's running. Yeah. I think that was the situation. I think the understanding probably, you know, building towards it was British Bulldog was going to go over. And I think that's how Vince was left with nothing. You know, it's almost like holding them up. You know, a lot of people go under, say, ultimate warrior or other people holding Vince up for money. How diabolical. How on business. How low can you go? But shit, throwing tantrums is no better. At least with the other thing, you can throw money at it and you don't get all caught up. This one tantrums up to tantrums up to tantrums. Like how much convinced tolerate? You know, everyone instead of being, you know, promoters, you were babysitters.
It's very difficult. Yeah. Very difficult. When you had the bread, you had the bread and Sean Michaels. Like who does that? Like who is really the bread, you know, he was pushed to no ends, right? And just it just boiled over. When you look at it, yes, Michael's gets a tremendous amount of heel. He bulldog was most overguy. The show Michaels is obviously the most booed, the most hated. They're completely throwing garbage. I mean, they're so mad there at the end of Bulldog Luches. But to me, sometimes you could almost kill the town doing stuff like that. If you will, you know what I mean? Like kill the hotness because they want to see the hometown boy win. Because Bulldog obviously picked draw. I mean, you can't keep it. You show them. Huge, huge draw. My gosh. It was something really spectacular to watch him in his own element. And what a physique. You know, he was like a Greek god. Yeah. No, god bless this one. He was a wonderful person. So they're continuing the heart foundation.
Michaels feud and he wins. It's just a weird thing that did Michaels really need to win the European title? Did he really need to beat David Boy in the UK? They kind of could have went about another way. But it seems like Michaels got his way of what he wanted to do. And then obviously they continue the Michaels bread feud going forward. But it was just to me, I always found that a little odd. It's like, wow, he had to win in the UK. Just he just had to, you know. You know what I'm laughing right now? I'm laughing because God bless you John. Like I've been removed from the pro wrestling business. From 25, 30 years. I don't watch the program. I mean, I don't do anything. And I'm it's like reviving this little flame that never dies when you're in the business. Right. And I'm laughing because I love your passion. Yes. And so I'm trying to, your enthusiasm is so infectious. It's coming right out. They say right out of the screen. I can, I can grab it. So I am, I am an awe of seeing that.
And that's the thing that drove me when I used to watch my dad's matches. So kudos to you. I love it. Are you a bread guy or a shong guy? Because I know you said you like you like shong Michaels. Brett, you're hero, but which one you have to, you can't be both. You have to pick one. Brett. Brett as the baby and Sean as the heel. That's what you say more affinity for Brett. Obviously, he's the one that, you know, dropped my name, dropped dad's name to fence that whole WWF experience happened because of his reference ability to fence. Okay. So, but I was a fan of Brett way before WWF, you know, me coming into there. Big fan, my wife, who's from Singapore, was a huge Bret him hitman heart fan. And I, and I mentioned that too when we were doing my signing and all the family came as a bread. I want to introduce to my wife, her meat, Big Showdown to my wife, my, my backbone and the reason I am who I am today.
But she, she had, she was a big fan of Brett, the whole family was. And guess what? She had a little dog there. I forget the name of the dog. The name of the dog was Tiger. Whoa. What a coincidence. Yeah, what a weird coincidence there. Nice. Isn't that crazy? I think you're going to say, yeah, so I think you're going to say the name was hitman. That's what I thought you were going to say. What's the name of it? I'm sorry, we're breaking up. I couldn't. Oh, I thought you were going to say the name of it was hitman. No, but tigers even better. That makes more sense. No, no, no. Take it easy, John. Take it easy. All right. I got to, as my territory too. So when you're looking at though with, with Michaels, obviously he is a huge heal. He's playing the huge heal. But is it weird when you're, like you said, you're a big green, right? And you're, but behind the scenes, is it weird that you're seeing a guy be a heal in front of the camera and behind the scenes?
Is that kind of strange? Like as being one of the boys? Being around my dad, and I think anyone here can attest to it, including the Americans that went over there. Dad was living in Carnate of Tiger 24 hours day, seven days a week. Like I remember that transformation happening when we landed in Nareda, my very first time. And he put on his turban. And boom, people in the airport were scared of him. And he was in character. He wasn't going wielding his sword and hitting people, but that aura. And it would only be put on the shelf when we were back in the hotel room. So I, when I looked at Sean, and remember, I didn't own personally, and I didn't know about the history of the being annoyance and throwing tantrums, I just thought he was working the gimmick like all the time.
Right? And it wasn't until a little bit later that I saw that he was kind of hanging to himself and him and Hunter. But can I share something with you? Sure. Every single time I had an exchange with him, Sean Michaels, thanks to the age and all that, very respectful. Now I don't know, you know, with him and Hunter, how genuine it was, I don't know. It may be it could have been, but very respectful, very honorable to my dad, and this is like just in the start. Very respectful. So from a personal, my personal experience with Sean Michaels, behind the scenes backstage, when no one's watching, very nice. And that's, I guess that was the reason why I volunteered when he was running a territory in San Antonio. And nobody was wanting to go down. So where's the friends, right?
So like what Sean said, out of sight, out of mind, he wasn't there. So a lot of people got away from him and no one wants to go. So I don't know who came in the office. Someone and they said, hey, do you want to go? No one else is going to say, okay, I'll go. At least I'm in house shows. I'm not doing anything over here. And so I arrived in San Antonio. And I had a message already from Sean. He gave me a call and he said, hey, do you want to come over? I said, Sean, I really appreciate it. I just got in really late. But thank you so much. And he goes, okay, he goes, I'll see you at the show tomorrow. And we went to the show and he was giving me, he was, he was, everything opposite of what you would see at the shows. And his demeanor and everything was very similar to what he is today in the public. That's what I was exposed to. And this is post-bred heart, right? This is way after. And I spent probably a week down there.
And I did the shows and I think he had his culture mentor at the time. They were doing a joint promotion. I forget his Jose, something. Jose, lethario. Jose, lethario. So I met him over there as well. They were doing a joint promotion, wrestling promotion. And like Indy's there. And so I stayed up there a week. He took care of me very nicely, always looking out for me, critiquing me when I was up at the show. So he goes, Tiger, you have a really hot gimmick. This thing is, it can be really big. And then he was explaining, give me some mentoring. The shit that I should have been getting. They never got from the office, right? But it was, I loved it. I had a wonderful time when I was there. So I think that is a great stopping point. As we talked about one night only. Your big win. Over else, no, aka, leave Cassidy. Yes, awesome. So let's go. Was that my, was that my house show for the, for the year?
Kind of. That's the only basic, your only paper view. You wrestled sales this year on raw at least, you know, once. So yeah, that's basically it. That's a count you. And no one knows that. And you know, because Vincent never shared it. Remember, I was fully transparent with the shit in the vents. I go, listen, I'm not working full-time schedule coming in. Right? I'm going here once in a while to Japan. And he goes, oh, don't worry about it. He goes, we're going to get on that out of you. The ring rust would get you on the house shows. So I had my debut on raw and I had this paper view. And that was the only probably two out of maybe a handful of times I worked. Matches that year. There was no house shows. A hundred percent there was no house shows. So all my matches that that year probably were a paper view or TV. Crazy. Absolutely crazy. And only 13. Crazy. Yeah, it's only 13. 13. Do you know what the 13 were? We can get into it the next episode. Yes. Yeah. I know one was sales this year. The Kuwait Cup was obviously a bunch of them.
And then Flash Phone too, you wrestled one. So yeah. Oh, Flash Phone. That was that one room I told you at Hershey. And he came and he told me my ear. He goes, Ross is telling all the talent to get in front of the monitors. And they're going to watch this Tiger guy read what he's sold. I go, wow. I go, I go, brother, what the F does that mean? He goes, I don't know. I just wanted to let you know. That's what I heard. Because Flash had a lot of respect for dad, right? And I earned my respect with him. And much loved to, much loved the funk, you know. And then we went out, we had a bat. And that was the one I told you. Vince pulled me aside. And he goes, hey, just to make sure, just want to let you know. You're going to put over Flash. I said, yes, there are no problems. He goes, okay, just show like there's no issues or anything like that. I go, no, no problem at all. So, so good, brother. I'm happy. Yes, you're only lost of that ear.
13 matches, one loss, there's the Flash Phone. Yes. Holy smokes. It's all the work. It's all the work. So before we wrap this bad boy up, tell us about T-J-S-F-D-S-Higer GT Singh foundation. Well, something near and dear to my heart. As you know, that we're going in the 14th or 15th episode right now. We should make a recording of this and add it to the end. But I'm trying to always come up with different ways, but, you know, different viewers are watching different episodes. I understand. Yeah. So we started this thing about 20 years ago. The Tiger GT Singh foundation. And the mandate was to promote an inclusive society, community respect, and supporting as many charities as possible. For women's shelters, to food banks, to children's hospitals, to promoting literacy, nutrition programs, and mental health awareness, and public schools. Our foundation charges zero administrative fees. So that means 100% of the total raise goes back into all the communities
to date well over tens of millions of dollars have been raised. And well over 200 different charities, including, you know, Conquer for Cancer and Sick Kids Hospitals. And so really, really blessed to have an unbelievable awe-inspiring life after the fact of my injuries. And really feeling fulfilled, being blessed and surrounded. Everyone that's involved in the foundation is, you know, my wife, my children, my parents, my brothers. They're families, unambulable core of volunteers, and partners, and sponsors, and municipalities, and mayors, and police forces, and different levels of government, like going all the way up to the federal government, John. Real quick, does one of these sound like you? Because if you say yes to anyone, there's something you can do right now. So here we go. Gaining weight, no matter how disciplined you are, craving something sweet after every meal. Feeling hungry again and hour after you eat. These are all signs your body isn't producing enough GLP one. The hormone that suppresses hunger, slows down digestion and supports weight loss. But fortunately you can boost your natural GLP one production. And one of the easiest ways to do that is with Bioma GLP one booster. With every serving you get science-backed and third-party tested ingredients. All working together to help your body produce more of this weight loss hormone on its own. Simply take two tiny Bioma GLP one booster capsules each morning before breakfast. This way you can finally quiet the food noise. Feel full with less food and enjoy smoother weight management when following a healthy lifestyle. So again, if you said yes to anyone, here's what to do right now. Head to Bioma.health slash GLP one and use code podcast for 15% off your first order. That's Bioma.health slash GLP one code podcast.
