“If you're holding your phone while driving, you could hit one of us. And that's why you should totally get a cop phone from Wethertap. It fits right in your cup holder and keeps your phone locked in place.”From the transcript

The meaning of what a colony is has shifted in Adam's mind between viewings of the Doctor Who story 'Colony in Space' starring Jon Pertwee, and he rabbits on about how much he loves the science-fiction cosmic horror series Brink by Dan Abnett & INJ Culbard.

I'm a raccoon. I'm a moose. I'm a skunk. If you're holding your phone while driving, you could hit one of us. And nobody like wants that. Right raccoon. Right skunk. Right moose. Right raccoon. And that's why you should totally get a cop phone from Wethertap. It fits right in your cup holder and keeps your phone locked in place. So your eyes stay locked on the road. It's amazing. It's brilliant. It's killer. Oh, seriously moose. Oh, sorry. That just sort of slipped out. Protect yourself and everything else on the road with a cop phone from Wethertap.com. Hello chickens. This is the fabulous Adam Rincid and I have a theory. Hello chickens. If there's been a couple of edits, you've noticed in Mono 2 of the last few episodes. Because I keep coughing, I've had like a weird cold this week, which luckily happened

the week that I didn't need to do podcasts because I'd already done a bunch on the week before. Yes, some of these are prerecorded. I know it doesn't happen every day. Otherwise, how would I be able to do a binge-trop on Sundays on Patreon? And then they come out every day of the week on the other podcast platforms. Like, I can't do that without prerecording them. This isn't live. This is not live. I'm not streaming. Although there's a little live stream button in this recording thing and I'm tempted to press it sometimes. I'm just be like, who would join in? Who would even know it was there because I didn't tell anyone. Let's press the live stream button. Weeeeeee. I'm not pressing the live stream button. Someone did ask me to stream once and I was like, oh, I don't think I could. I get too caught up. This is something that happens when I was responding to Jeff. Jeff said about Peter's text messages about the colony in space.

I can't believe Peter didn't make more of Joe using her lock picking skills to escape the bomb plot. One of my favorite Joe Grant moments. I will point out that if Peter's enjoying the episode, he doesn't text. He said he was going to watch the demons or something. He kept threatening to do another one. I was like, don't watch a good one. He's like, why not? You'll send me six texts and that'll be it. I'll miss 20 minutes while you're getting grossed in the story. It's when he thinks it's terrible and he's not really caught by it. He sends me texts. I've threatened him with, I think, Delta and the bad man. I can't remember. It'll just turn up one day. Anyway. Jeff, I know I was talking about something else, but it's my head's broken because of the coughing and the dizziness. Also, my drama lasagna. Let's not forget about that. Jeff says, I know her. This is Jeff from the Great and Secret Knowledge.

I'm going to go on the Great and Secret Knowledge. I'm very excited. Jeff has invited me and I cannot wait to be part of the fun. I don't know when it is. I know when I'm recording it, but I don't know when he puts them up. So don't ask. Stop asking me. Stop asking me. I'm going to Brisbane soon. That's going to be fun. Jeff says, I used to like colony in space a lot, but boy, howdy. The texts are revealing. It's flaws like crazy. I haven't had the heart to watch along because I want to keep liking it. Lowell. I'm in a bit of a same kind of quandary myself. That's why I'm resisting looking at it and reading all of these messages instead. Really, I want to watch it. I've got to go into another room out there where it's not as sweaty as it is in here. There's a big TV. I can watch it on. It's fun. It's on brickbox now. I can just pick up where I left it off. But also, I have it on Blu-ray and I want to watch that one too.

In my memory, it's a bit dull and silly, but there are some fun bits of it. Then I forgot that since I last watched it, the word colony has gone from in my mind, meaning, reaching out and finding new places for an overstuffed society to live and has become going somewhere and destroying a society, turning it into something that it doesn't want to be. It is kind of problematic. I remember, I think it's the sea devils. I was going to call it the space demons. I don't know why that is in my head or the space demons. In the sea devils, there's a moment where the doctor's kind of laughing at the guy that's running the prison because he was the governor of a colony that failed. I'm like, yeah, they should fail. That's absolutely what should happen to them. There's often been established places where there were already people.

Anyway, when you read about space colonies, you're like, this episode is a prime example. It's like, oh, yeah, there's people that live there. They're like, what? How is that fine? It's weird that in the 70s, the British were mad for trying to have green energy and not pollute the planet, but still okay to subjectate people. That was still okay, I think. Anyway, I know I've made things problematic again. Jeff says, if all the radiation was removed from an area, I think the molecules would implode on themselves, which then could set off a secondary power source that used an antimatter bottle so that when the walls of the chamber collapse, the resulting matter slash antimatter explosion destroys the complex solder. I don't know what any of that means, Jeff. Not to say this is the reason for your out-sheet shoulder, but one way a breakup affects us is that silly little things I putting sunscreen on your shoulders can go south without

someone to assist. Sorry to hear about your troubles in that area, my friend. Oh, thanks, Jeff. No, the sunburn was... No, I had someone there with me. Like, lovely William was putting it on my back and I did all everywhere else. And I just missed my shoulder. There was a hand print of white and just red where I had not put the sunscreen. I just missed a chunk. But also there's that breakup thing, not even necessarily a breakup thing. Any kind of psychological stress that you're living with, bear it. You might be getting investigated for something at work or someone at work is bullying you or someone at school is really targeting you for something or your parents might be having issues and you've got to help out. Like whatever goes on in our lives that is stressing us more than our everyday stresses,

which are huge because there's this cultural need for us all to be bloody, productive all the time. That is not a true need. That's crazy capitalism coming to get us all. But yeah, so if there are extra stresses on your life, whatever they may be, you do tend to forget small things. Like I keep leaving stuff at home. I keep wandering into this office and going, I did not bring that thing that I need to do the thing that I do. You know, it happens. So yeah, I, that's probably what happened with Micheal. And Jeff says if they can make waterproof blue tooth speakers, surely they can make waterproof hearing aids. They probably can, but when they cost $7,000, do you trust it with the saltwater? Speaking as a hearing impaired person, myself, science can really hurry up and get it's messed together. Jeff, I'm so sorry.

Then you have to put up with slow science. Also, why do we have to pay to hear and see things? Capitalistic medicine can get forked. Is it like in the good place when everything was getting, was like, was the fork? They couldn't swear because there was like a filter. Oh my God, there's a swear filter in my favorite comic book. I'm sure I've mentioned you to you before, Brink, which is written by Dan Abnet and drawn by Ian, IJ Coolbard. And it appears in 2018 comics weekly for like sometimes 15 to 20 weeks at a trot and then they put out like an amazing, you know, volume you can get from sometimes the library or you can buy collected editions. Anyway, Brink, it's amazing. And they've long had these little black words. They've ever anyone swear, it's just like a little black box.

And for a while, I was like, I don't understand what this is, it's weird. And then there was a whole series of it, like maybe book four or three or something, where that was being monetized. Like people were being charged a dollar every time they swore and that thing had to activate. And I was like, oh, that's interesting because it's like, you know, a swear jar, but it's automated and it's like, oh my God, this is going to cost me money. And so people were trying not to swear at stuff. And then in the latest one, it was used in a really sinister and kind of terrifying way. And it was maybe it was radiation, maybe it was interference, maybe it was, you know, you don't know what's causing it. And oh, it's such a good series. Like I think it's, yeah, it's really, it's how it is able to be both kind of, hard science fiction, people living in spaceships and space stations because the earth has been destroyed.

But also weirdly lovecraftian, creepy, giant space cosmic horror is incredible. Like it's such a great comic book. Anyway, I've got to run about that longer than I do. And Jeff finally says the book slaps the Doomsday weapon version of the colony in space. Jeff says, I just read it for the first time last year and it rules. It really does. A little bit more on the colony in space before I watch it from Carl in the next episode.
