Hey, hey everybody. Welcome to the Robloif Radio Show. I'm your host, the Rob guy. And as always, we're very pleased for you. Welcome to the Robloif Radio Show. I'm your host, the Rob guy. And as always, we're very pleased, flattered, humbled, all the things to be coming to you from 102.9 WBCA Boston's Community Neighborhood Radio Station. I want to thank you very much for joining us, whether you are a, well, whether you are a, okay, good grammar to start things off here. A returning listener, a first-time listener. It's a pleasure to have you with us. And just to jump ahead, I'll give you a little bit of background on kind of the show itself, especially if you're a first-time listener. It's been a lot of random content lately.

The robe has to do with my love for bath robes. All the things that come with that, I enjoy relaxing in them, reflecting in them. Do my best to respect others. We've really been dialing up the random the last couple shows. It's been a little bit all over the place, but I'm just going to continue leaning into that for right now. It's what's kind of what's going on in my life. I'll touch on that a little bit what I've been up to. A lot of random things. There's probably some connective tissue to it, but I, I have yet to kind of discern what that is. So maybe you can help me along the way as I kind of go through the show tonight. Again, we do come to you every Friday at 7.30 p.m. in the evening through WBCA. And the show, I mean, just briefly, you know, we can be fun. It can be humorous, although I'll talk a little bit about later. I'm not sure my sense of humor is really where I'd like it to be right now. Sometimes some nostalgia. And even some, I don't know, things that might teach you something new that you didn't know about, something cool. He didn't know about it all might inspire you. I just like to share stories, kind of perspectives on a whole lot of different things. A little sign field, I guess you could say, that kind of theme here and there.

You know, they sort of did you ever notice type of stuff. But anyway, the theme for this show is going to be ups and downs. And it's sort of, I don't see it's a tired theme, but I was just thinking about it because as I look at sort of, I don't know, kind of different things across my life, the world around me. The stock is rising in a lot of areas. There's a lot of returns. I'm thinking about, you know, what do I do from here? Do I invest more in those areas? Do I think about keeping them where they're at? You know, thinking about my oldest friend who's also my financial advisor, you know, he often gives me perspective on different things on that front. And this by no means is going to turn into, you know, where should you invest your money or not and that type of stuff. I know I know, but no means would want to bore you with that. But I was thinking about, you know, well, I'll just give you an example. Let's get a little more tangible for you because right now I'm being a little too opaque. This guy is definitely falling for me with a couple of my favorite Boston sports teams. And if you've been following any of the teams or if you're familiar with the world of Boston sports, you probably know I'm referring to both the red socks and the patriots.

And maybe we'll take the former first because by the time of this entering the red socks will either be well waiting for next year. And or they could have somehow miraculously pulled one out against the New York Yankees or arch nemesis once again. But last night, well, the time of this year, I should also mention if you weren't already aware that this is a show we pre record I pre record over here in Roxbury at the WBC studio, which is actually really nice just selfishly for me not to go on a tan. But I really love the flexibility offer. I hope to do some live shows at some point that will be a natural progression. Shall we say for about, I don't know, 2025 shows now. And with a live show course outside of it just being live on the air. If you're listening in, but you also can have some Collins and all the years I've listened to W E I and 98.5 the sports sub. I get nothing. Well, I get a lot of enjoyment sometimes cringe all the things, but hearing people calling with their perspective. And I often wonder what it would be like to be on the hosting side, you know, you never know what's going to come at you.

You've got to be prepared to listen. You've got to be prepared to acknowledge or pivot and all those things. So stay tuned. But on the red socks. Well, let's face it. They weren't playing all that well over the last several weeks. We all know about, well, those you familiar know about the great streak they had where they want a whole bunch of games that kind of brought them back to playoff contention. They made the playoffs. But last night we just walked into a bus cam shitler. I'm at being how you pronounce his name, but pretty sure it's somewhat accurate. And he's the young kind of phenom on the Yankees. And we just didn't have any answers for him. And then Chad Tracy no longer our interim manager apparently, but in my opinion, made a bonehead decision when he took Peyton toly out. We were two outs. I think it was the fifth or sixth inning. And totally just he was gosh striking guys out. He was starting to kind of if you know him, he's our he's our young kind of stud our young picture. To sort of contrast or being on the other side of with the Yankees having cam. So anyway, I just hope the two of those guys are going to be doing battle over the next.

10 15 years, whether you know on the red socks and the Yankees, but with all that said, yeah, Chad thought it would be prudent given the guy that totally was about to face had hit a double off toly or learn in the game. He's a great hitter. And he's also from cohasit. So both cam and then Ben Rice, both Massachusetts natives originally were the guys that did in the red socks last night. And they just didn't have any answers. So tonight, this is Wednesday, the 30th. It is another night. We have sunny gray going today. Hopefully he'll turn things around for us. But the road guys not feeling optimistic. It seems like the writing is on the wall. So to speak. And well, of course, the Patriots. I won't spend too much time in them, but it's all about what's going on with Drake May. And I think the interesting thing with this is nobody really knows, which is unusual. Usually, you know, players in performing like you'd expect them to you'd imagine something like it's an injury or maybe it's something in their personal life, which of course is usually private to that person, but oftentimes they might bring something like that out.

You know, et cetera. So, you know, there's been a lot of speculation about what's going on. I'm not going to share any of mine sort of thoughts because I don't really have any intelligent ones to add to the discourse. I really don't know what I don't know. So I just hope that this weekend when we play the bills, I was reminded my doctor's appointment this morning that my doctors at bills fans. So they were. They were very happy to bring that up. We were chatting about this and that probably because I had my Patriot shirt on or one of my Patriots jerseys and Red Sox hats. So if you're a bills fan right now, you must be loving this. And hey, look, I tip my cap to you. I do love Josh Allen. And for well, many, many years during the call in the Tom Brady years. I'm not sure what's happened to him. But anyway, well, we had the bills number and then some. So it was only. Well, it's only going to be time enough before they had the opportunity to experience what we did all those years, but they still don't want a Super Bowl. So come talk to me when you want to Super Bowl bills fans. And maybe tie up on the sports front. The Bruins did one their first game last night. I have mentioned before not a huge Bruins fall or I'm a fan, of course, my brother. It is the big fan there.

So that was exciting to see them after pasta got his captain captain ship, shall we say, and excited for him. I'm excited to see him around town in Charlestown. I hope I'm not disclosing anything private, but most people know he does live in Charlestown. And so hopefully I'll get to see him. Congratulations. I'm on a good start to the season. I'm sure I won't, but if I do, I'll try to remember that. And then we'll see what happens with the Celtics things kicking off pretty soon. So I'd say stock is way down on the Red Sox and Pats up on the Bruins, at least for one game and the Celtics is TBD. So what else? Well, let's see. I mentioned the doctor. I went to the doctor this morning. Check in. I think I did pretty well. Blood pressure looked good. I lost a little bit of weight. So for me, that was good. And then I had the opportunity upon prompting to take on the flu and COVID vaccines. And definitely not going to dive into this in detail. I know this can be a polarizing subject. But for me, I do believe that vaccines are effective that they should be used, et cetera.

I don't mind sharing that. Certainly for people that are at high risk, you know, if they were to contract a COVID or flu, they have underlying health conditions, et cetera. So, and I happen to be one of those people. So I was excited to get them done. Right now, I'd say the stock is up for me in my experience. If you're familiar with all of the vaccine, sometimes, and it is a function of how they work, the biology, if you will, and how they sort of are metabolized and process, shall we say, by the human body, you can sometimes, not everybody. I want to make sure that it's clear. You can experience some of the symptoms that you might experience if you were actually to have the virus itself. And it has to do again with the way the vaccines are produced and delivered. I won't bore you with all the logistics, but suffice it to say, I think there's quite a range of experiences and sort of tolerability, et cetera, people can have. So you might have a little achiness in your shoulder, for example, the deltoid muscle where you've had the vaccine injected. You might have, say, fever, some aches and pains, could be a number of things. So, without getting into all that, right now, I'm feeling pretty good.

But based on my own personal experience in years past, getting these vaccines, I anticipate the stock for me on the vaccines later today could be a little bit down. I have someone that just, but whatever reasons happen to experience a little bit of those symptoms typically. And they usually just lasted day or so. So right now, I'm up, feeling good, got those out of the way oftentimes. You know, I'll delay getting those done. And it's always good. If you can, you believe in what they can do for you. If you're someone with high risks to sort of be potentially exposed and or have say more serious disease. I believe it's always a good idea to have those in place for each season. So I'm not going to probably keep you posted on that. But in any event, let's see what else do I have here? I mentioned, I think I mentioned really my sense of humor. So I'm someone that I don't necessarily think I'm really funny, but I think I have my moments. And some of you might identify with that. But recently, I, whoo, what did I do?

Well, so I wanted to go to Starbucks in Charlottes Town. And it's always a bit of a challenge to find a parking spot near there. So I did something I probably shouldn't have, which was to park in a kind of a strip mall nearby with as a whole foods, a bunch of other shops. And there's clear signage everywhere. You know, you have a limit of how much time you can be parked there, which makes total sense. I understand that that space should be for the customers for those stores. And yet, and I'm not the only one. I see others do it all the time in a pinch. I don't do it all the time, but I might park there, run over to Starbucks, get a coffee, run back. This time, however, I got into Starbucks, the Starbucks Starbucks and got my coffee and got an email about something I needed to kind of get to. So I open up my laptop all of a sudden. I was like, just kind of in the zone. And then next thing, you know, I'm like, oh, man, I got to get home to Gizmo, my little dog. Oh, in quick shout out to Gizmo. I should have mentioned before she just turned seven this past weekend. So happy birthday, Gizmo. I love you. And but I didn't even look, I got to get home and give you a small walk. So I walked home. And forgot that my car was parked out in Starbucks until I was just about to open the door to get little gizmo. I said, oh, yeah, smack the forehead turned around and walked all the way back.

So I thought, well, here's an opportunity to just send something fun to my name, excuse my neighbors, in a text chain. And it's one of those like your face when I'm sure you're familiar with this like, oh, your face when you're late for your appointment or something like that or your face when you deliver a presentation and nobody liked it. It's sort of like, I don't know, a grumpy face or something like that, you know, you're not really feeling too good. So I thought, oh, this is my moment. I came up with this fun sort of caption or text. It was like your face when you know you park at Whole Foods and you go to Starbucks and then you forget your car was there. So you walk home and then you remember and blah, blah, blah, blah. And took a fun picture of myself. And then in the spirit of thinking that this was going to be really awesome and I was going to get a bunch of L.O.s or LMAOs or all that good stuff. I sent it to like four or five different text chains. The response is 0.0. I didn't even get a response. So yeah, I'm not going to lie. I've been thinking about that a lot. It's been about 24 hours now. I think it eventually I'll get past this. But it's just frustrating folks. You know, I know I'm not the funniest person. And I know that not everybody finds certain types of humor interesting. But to not have anybody at least, I mean, even just tell me it was not good. Like I would have at least appreciated that. But what are you going to do?

This is the life of the rope guy. And with that wonderful cliffhanger, if you will. I think what we're going to do is go to our break. We usually do one break in each show. And my wife is going to be going to be in the world. And we'll continue that after the break. We're going to talk a little bit more about my decision making. My ability to pick up spam. Not the food and AI among other areas. So please stay with us folks. This is WBCA LP Boston Boston's Community Radio Station.

Yeah, that's right 102.9 WBCA Boston's Community Neighborhood Radio Station. And excited to be here with you all on another Friday evening. And if you've been listening or if you're just tuning in just a quick reminder. Yeah, we've been going through.

Some of the ups and downs from a stock perspective, not financial. I won't disclose any financial holdings I have. I don't have many, but more things just. Yeah, I've been going on in my world or around me, not always directly impacting me per se before the break we covered a little bit about how the sky, I think, at least for me, proverbial sky's been falling on a couple of my favorite sports teams here in Boston, the socks and the pets. Talk a little bit about my recent experience. At the time of this recording, literally just about an hour ago, getting my COVID and flu vaccines and post non promotional content there, more just kind of what I've experienced what I may or may not be experiencing later based on my history. And then lastly, we talked about my wonderful sense of humor and how lately I feel like it's been falling flat. Yeah, it's been a little bit sad. I actually have a good buddy who is a local standard comedian, a Michael Brian. And hopefully he doesn't mind me giving him a quick shout out here. And any event I mentioned him because I think I just need to spend more time with him. He's been doing stand up for a while. I just saw these actually going to be at off cabinet and Beverly on New Year's Eve, which is really cool.

And again, non promotional statement there, but I mentioned it because he's someone that I find well very funny. And I think I have a lot to learn from. So stay tuned. Hopefully I'll work on that humor and maybe come back to you with some zingers in the future. But yeah, we're going to just continue on here again in the theme of the Robloff Radio show really is random. So you kind of never know what you're going to get. And some of you out there, this might be exactly what you need on a Friday night. If you're chilling at home, hopefully get your robot and you're feeling cozy or reflecting. And I can just help kind of generate some some random stuff in your own mind, your own world. So what else has been up? I mentioned this before the break, but again, non promotional statement here, I've been spending the last gosh several months working on a children's book. And you would not believe the amount of spam that one gets when one embarks on such a journey. Now I appreciate that spam is everywhere now. It's come sort of leaps and bounds. Shall we say probably ever since the advent of the internet where there's just easier ways for people to reach out.

And it's I do appreciate a prior career that I mentioned before a few times where we had very, very good training on this front biotech company intellectual property was paramount security information to safety of our employees, all those things, which I know they are certainly relevant concerns for many not just companies but individuals. Anyway, we would get really good training on being able to pick up on things like fishing and different types of scam that you might face, you know, that would come in through your email and other mediums. And so I mentioned this because yeah, it's just ever since this thing I've been working on has started to make its way, shall we say, I'm going to the internet through a variety of mediums. I continue to get some pretty sneaky messages that you know upon first glance look pretty authentic in terms of they might use a name somebody that once I look at LinkedIn or Google. It's actually an individual, etc. But what I found in this relates to that training I had some time ago is the way I'm picking up on this is the email address.

And I'll give you one example. I won't get into specifics for certain reasons, but basically, you know, I got an email just today that had a name attached to it. The name after some research was an actual person. But I learned that, you know, again, through AI and I'll come back to that, which has been helping and actually may not be I just went to basic Google searching and happened to be intelligent. Is it prompted me with saying, well, if you're going to get an email from a person, this particular person who works at this particular company, then this is what the email address should look like and it did not look like that. What I got was more of a Gmail address as opposed to like a company specific email address. So it sounds very simple. But as someone who's kind of like doing something for the first time and seeking to network and find partners and learn new things, it, you know, if you weren't keeping an eye out on this, it would have been very easy for me just to respond to this email, say, yes, you know, be great to chat or who knows maybe they would have if this was a true scam artist probably would have started prompting me to visit some page and enter additional information.

So be vigilant out there folks, especially when you get things from people you may know or you've heard about whether they're people in the public domain or family members friends, et cetera, not to kind of use fear mongering here. But someone who almost was, yeah, kind of reaching out or connecting with some of these people who aren't really people as I've learned, you need to make sure that you're smart about it. So yeah, stock is up there for me. It's been good. I mentioned AI. I mentioned AI. I think this is also a little bit, I don't know what would have stopped be sort of it's not up or it's down it's stable. I am sort of reading and hearing about all the things I'm sure many of you are in that. There's been a lot in the news recently about, you know, how fast AI is evolving and some certain obvious concerns about is this all going to become like terminator two if you're familiar with that movie where, you know, the robots or the machines if you will take over. And I have not I'll be honest that educated on that front. So I definitely don't want to offer any perspective outside of I think I'm going to hopefully like a lot of us look to the experts and hopefully the right decisions will be made. I think it is a very valid concern.

But on the positive side, it's been helping me just with a lot of research recommendations. I mentioned my book earlier, but even for the radio show that I do here. I sort of prompted a couple different I'll call them AI engines with you know things I've covered before, what are you know some themes that you see from that what are some other ideas you think of that might come to your AI mind shall we say I could consider. So I think there's a lot of cool use cases for it. And I think that's something that I've been leaning into and at the same time I've caught myself a few times where I would type something in and I do I really need to look to this for that. I can't just come up with that on my own. So I think this is just a long way to wave saying I'm still figuring it out for me. And it's probably going to like for a lot of us change over time depending on whether you're using it professionally personally or not at all. How familiar you are with it, et cetera, but you know just consider it like other thing be kind to yourself. It's going to be a journey for all of us in a lot of different ways can impact us on a lot of different ways.

But I'm finding that you know you always want to be able to gut check things. Maybe that's kind of what I'm trying to say is okay. This is the recommendation it's telling me. Does it make sense and maybe the last thing I'll say on this front, which was a bit of a proud moment. I'll say for me is there were a couple times where AI was wrong. And now that might sound obvious because it's not perfect none of us are and I don't think any machine is but the end of the day I then brought that really true because I found something different. I thought those are really cool. I'm paraphrasing but the computer said something like oh you know what you're right thanks for catching that I'll make a note of it. So I guess put a different way I was teaching AI and maybe that's the whole rub here is that a lot of that is what's happening right now. It's people that work in that space are getting it to be smarter and smarter and so let's see how it all goes from here folks. Well we got a few minutes left where else have I had some stock up or stock down. Stock down. Reconcy bias I've covered a lot of things that have happened to me whether it's today yesterday decision making with traffic routes kind of how to get to different places.

So in this show I've talked about well briefly mentioned a couple times my prior career that was down on the seaport and living in Charlestown and commuting there a few days a week. You know post pandemic let's say once we all return to the office I learned pretty quickly that a lot of companies in the area were generally offering up say something like three days a week and if there was flexibility. I don't have data on this but it seemed like based on prevailing traffic patterns etc. most people were choosing to work from home Mondays and Fridays and then they would go into the office Tuesday through Thursday. I kind of blanked on that today in heading into my medical appointment down on the seaport so around eight. Yeah excuse me 10 8 15 got my Duncan getting in my car take a turn in oh boy all of a sudden I'm just met with a long line of cars all the red break lights etc. And immediately got frustrated at the same time I'm like I knew this was going to happen or should have known you know whether it was subconsciously or otherwise I should have gotten up a little earlier. Maybe just get down there sooner or maybe even go a little bit later still be able to make the appointment and I've been finding this has been happening more frequently and it might just be simply you know I've a different lifestyle now I don't have a nine to five job.

And so I've been a little bit air quote out of the game I guess you could say from that commuter like behavior or even just kind of going into a brick and mortar office and as I've kind of adapted to my my new world. You know it's probably a little bit of those habits are or thoughts are kind of like when I wake up in the morning I am I'm not usually thinking about where I'm going necessarily at that hour to the extent that I'm going to run into traffic if that makes sense. So yeah I need to work on that I need to be ready to kind of have the right to hat on shall we say when those moments come up and if anything I think I just need to spend a little more time looking at my Google calendar because I certainly still keep track of when I have appointments. It's just when being reminded or remembering oh wait yeah well how am I going to get there what time should I leave what time shouldn't I leave anyway but on the positive side as I think about other things that are going up for me you know ways something you're all probably familiar with. But it seems like just a basic GPS and cars is getting smarter you know even coming to this radio station over here in Roxbury there's been three or four different routes.

That the computer has prompted me to take different times of the day on different days of the week and they've all gotten me here and about the same time so have I got checked this with ways or one of those other sort of platforms you may know of that often were marketed as such. Oh this is going to give you the quickest way even though it's back roads things like that I think all that thinking sort of in the algorithm the cloud whatever you want to call it is being picked up were adopted by more of these car specific brand GPS platforms which is a good thing so stock is up there man. Well in the spirit of randomness tonight here the road life radio show I am your host the road guy again I want to thank you for listening as always we've been covering gosh we've been covering a lot of different stuff and I'm very thankful for all the people out there that may be enjoying the show.
