Hi, I'm Sam Slayton, CEO of Sante Center for Healing. Now for 30 years, Sante Center has helped individuals and families find recovery from addiction and rediscover life. Left untreated, addiction is a fatal disease. Please find out more about Sante or talk with a counselor anytime at SanteCenter.com. Alright, so a couple of big moves here in the last few days for your Dallas stars on the heels of a franchise record, 10 game, winning streak. Things are looking pretty rosy right now. But as the coach can tell you, things can change in a hurry and he joins us now, Glenn Gulletson. Coach, um, oh, you're sponsored by on TimeX which keep air and plumbing. Okay, gotta get those sponsors in coach. But yeah, I'm sure that, you know, you're very happy. But you're also probably telling the team, all right, let's keep our focus. Let's keep kicking ass here. Yeah, you know what, we've added a couple of guides here in the last 48 hours and,
you know, that's great, you know, two quality people, two quality players. But you know what, we got a good thing going and we just got to, you know, great, these guys into our into our game and our culture. And then, um, try to keep this thing going as long as we can. But it's pretty awesome when you have a shopping list and your general manager, Jim Nill, just goes and answers everything you need. Yeah, you know what, he's, uh, he's got a history doing such a good job, obviously. And, uh, I think he was three time general manager of the year. So it's, um, you know, he's got a lot of experience and, um, sure, it's helpful this time of year to have a guy like that. What do you like about your team's game right now? There's, there's, there's a lot, a lot to like, I think. Oh, well, it's just such a complete game that we're playing and it's not, it's not a one off. It's not, you know, a couple games, you know, we've, we've put together probably, um, you know, eight of our last 10 wins, you know, eight in a row
have been real solid performances from, from the goal tending to the back end to the forward group. And, um, I think we're playing the way, well, I know we're playing the way we want to play. And I think the guys are having a lot of fun doing it too. We've amped up, you know, some of the physicality here that we need to hand out, um, just our details in our game. Um, and, you know, one thing that's probably overlooked a little bit just, uh, you know, we've asked these guys to play with structure, but we also asked them to play with instinct and we're, we're running that balance really well. Yeah, I, I feel like coach, we've talked about, uh, your desire that this team does get a little more quote difficult to play against that we've, we've come back to that a few times this season. And, and now it's becoming more obvious, uh, both in your team's play and also in the players you're acquiring, uh, it, it looks like a process there. So, so that, that, that does, I mean, it doesn't happen overnight. It's not a light switch, is it? Oh, it's not. It's, um, you know, it's got to almost come in almost by osmosis and slowly,
and you, you, you try to keep, you know, working on it till, you know, it becomes part of the fabric of your game and, um, uh, the, the biggest thing that we have going on right now is that we've added this layer and, uh, and then we, you know, we had a tough stretch coming out of, um, after Christmas and, and, you know, we all talked about, um, you know, growth and, and adversity and how that's, please share your, but that, that adversity there made us do some soul searching and looking around and, and what we've added to our game since then, um, and then the best part of this is that the players could feel it and the players can see tangible results. And now it is becoming second nature because it's almost just one of those things you try it and now you can't live without it. So you've been doing this for a long time and I'm sure you've seen this play out, a million different times where a guy or a couple guys come into a situation, uh, later in the season that we're in and not so great situation themselves as far as the teams being, you know,
hyper competitive on the, on the highest level. What do you see out of guys like that that come in instantly with a big smile on their face like, God, it's great to be here. Yeah, you know, you've got to be careful because sometimes those guys, um, you know, are they're happy to be here? They add energy. It kind of energizes the group. We got to bring them in the right way too, especially when you have a team that's, um, you know, going as good as we have to because you remember, they're always, they're, they're going to end up displacing somebody, right? In, in, in a way, shape or form. So you, you run that balance of kind of bringing them in in stages the right way just like you would any guy that's coming off injury or, and you know, for a long period of time, that way you can get them in. Um, they can get used to the way you want to play and it's, it's almost a least disruption that it can become because they can come in and play their game within, within what your group is doing. Speaking of what your group is doing, that this incredible
win streak that kind of straddles the Olympic break, but what's most impressive, I think, is post Olympic break. You're doing it with your depth. Yeah, you know, we had some, we got some bad news out of the break, obviously, with rants and, in fact, but, um, certainly our depth players have showed up and, uh, you know, they've been waiting for probably a matter of opportunity, most of the year they prepared for their opportunity when it came, you know, that's what you're selling as a coach, hey, just be ready when, uh, when your numbers called and they've responded in a massive way and it goes to show the character of those young men, uh, and the character of our group. This is a star's coach, Glenn Gullison and, and what is really not my socks off watch in this team is the guys who, uh, were not part of the Olympics. I know it's, it's every team's hope that those guys come back rested and the best version of themselves and, and frankly, ready to do
a lot of the heavy lifting while the Olympics guys are recovering because gosh, going halfway across the world and playing in games of those intensity, it's, it's going to take something out of the tank and you come out of the break and, and here's Matt Dushane and here's Wyatt Johnston and here's Jason Robertson and it, it, it, it looks like those, that's exactly what happened. Yeah, no, they were, um, they were, they were, they were right ready to go. Listen, we had three, uh, and, and possibly even four players that, you know, could have been on some of those teams star players and they didn't get to go and, um, the beauty of it is, is when they came back, you know, we had some star players kind of rested up and, um, they responded in such a tremendous way. It, you know, it's a big part of the winning streak as well. What, uh, can you tell us a little bit about the, the Matt Dushane process? Uh, I know, you know, a lot to talk about wing versus center
and, and just the comfort level, but he did come out of the gates kind of slow, uh, in, let's say 2025 and in 2026, he's really kind of looked like Matt Dushane in his full form and, and, and that's got to be a delight, but, but do you, is there anything in the story that, that maybe the average viewer doesn't, doesn't fully know about, uh, why that's turned so well? Well, you know what, um, it was turning right before the break, um, but that injury that he had was very significant. And it, it's not something you can just come back in. First of all, the leagues heated up by the 30, 30, 40 game mark. Now you're getting on a moving train. Um, you're, you're not 100% healthy. I mean, you're cleared, you're healthy, but you're not completely up to speed. It's a significant injury. And, and it took him a while to get back on that moving train. And right before the
break, he was doing it. And, and then I was hoping, you know, right when we didn't get the break, that that was his catch-up time. You know, he was, he was getting up to speed before it, but now it put him on an equal platform. And he's one of those guys I was speaking about is, you know, he's a star player who's rested at a percent healthy. Now he's joining the league on equal footing. And you can see what he's done. Well, let's talk about tomorrow night for a moment or two. It's certainly a wonderful rivalry. And both teams are forever on the other's radar. And it just, it's, it's just a really, really fun hockey occasion tomorrow night that we're all excited to be in the barn. And it's the, you know, a few hours after the deadline. And, and so, Colorado coming to town. What does, what does that mean to your group right now? You know what? It's, it's, it means a lot because, you know, we had a game in there to start the season. Maybe the second game of the year, I believe. And, you know, we won the game, but,
you know, it's won the game. And we weren't happy about the way we played. We kind of actually, we marked that date on the calendar and said, Hey, by the time we play them in March, we need to be better. We need to be better. Or, you know, they, they kind of dominated us. And so it's kind of been a standard we've kind of looked at, at least in the coaching room that let's put it in the work because March, you know, March six, we want to be better when we play them. Hey, they're, they're, they're the class of the league right now. They, they really are. They've only lost 10 times. And, you know, we're on a 10 game winning streak. So it's, it's going to be one heck of a game. But I'm, I'm as excited as anybody else to see it. Yeah. I real showdown between two of the best heads of hair amongst NHL head coaches. By the way, I, I would just, I've just point that out. I mean, it might be a push right there. Yeah. You know what? It definitely is. And I'll give it to him, you know, because we're, we're, we're both, we're both to scatch you
and guys. So both, both, both to junior and the same team, a good friend of mine. Oh, wow. Okay. I'll give them the nod there. I'll give beds to the nod. That's awesome. And, and with the avalanche, one last thing on them, you know, and, and I'm sure blowing smoke in their direction is, is, is fun for everybody. But I was just looking at the numbers and, and they're well documented. But when you talk about first and the league in goals for first and the league and fewest goals against and then 30 second and power play, I don't think in all my years watching this sport, I've ever seen anything close to that. And I'm guessing you might feel the same way, but, but maybe your, your role at X is much bigger. Yeah. You know, I haven't seen that either. It is surprising. And I think, I think it's one thing that they all need to figure out. And you know, as they move forward here a little bit. And you never know what these things they can, they can turn. They can get hot for periods of time. But it is surprising with a team with that talent level to be at the bottom. And it just doesn't quite
make sense. Well, coach, tomorrow should be electric in the building. And, um, you mentioned, oh, Dave, you got one more? Yeah. Well, before we let you go, I know you have a lot of hockey on your mind. But we just wanted to know, have you ever seen smokey in the bandit? Oh, yeah. Oh, that's right. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I have. I have. Okay. Did you, when you were growing up, did your parents have a CB in their car or truck? Was that a thing in Canada? A CD, CB, CB radio, CB radio. Yeah, CB radio. Uh, you know what? We, we, I know what they are. They, some guys had them, but we didn't. But, uh, I, I know, um, I know there was a little bit of a call there. I can't remember what it was in that. Yeah. All right, movie on the, yeah, on the, uh, on the other side of it, did you were, were Canadian subjected to the dukes of hazard growing up? Oh, yeah, we knew who Daisy Duke was. Oh, yeah. You're here. Fair enough. Fair enough. All right, man,
play well tomorrow night. Good luck to you. And we'll talk to you next week. Yeah. Thanks, guys. All right. There you go.
