Quality Widens the Price Gap | Tea markets ended ISO Week 37 with prices increasingly determined by quality rather than broad market direction.

Across the major auction centers, buyers remained active but selective. Colombo recorded fair general demand, but stronger teas separated from weaker Western and Orthodox descriptions. North India remained under pressure relative to earlier-season highs, even as production constraints provided some underlying support. Mombasa showed one of the clearest quality signals, with better Kenyan manufacture attracting substantially stronger competition. Indonesia remained broadly stable, although limited public weekly data make it the least transparent of the four benchmarks. | Podlink signup: https://pod.link/1549975153

T-Markets ended Week 37 with prices increasingly determined by quality rather than broad market direction across the major auction center by our remained active but selective.

Here are this week's price benchmarks. In Colombo, prices averaged $3.30 per kilo this week unchanged. In North India, prices had averaged $2.27 per kilo down $3.00 per kilo versus the last available official average for week 35. In Mombasa, prices averaged $2.30 per kilo up to $0.00 per kilo versus the prior benchmark. In Indonesia, prices averaged approximately $0.35 per kilo unchanged. The larger story is the widening gap inside the catalog. Buyers continue to compete for clean manufacturer consistency in T-Sooted to immediate requirements while secondary descriptions face resistance. Whilst reinforcing that divide, currency pressure or high energy prices and rate risk of raising exporter costs, particularly for inexpensive bulk teas where logistics consume, a larger share of the realizable value.

The takeaway from Week 37 is that headline averages alone increasingly obscure what matters. T is not moving as a single market, quality buyer requirements and execution are determining who captures the premium. That's the T-Biz T-Price Report for Week 37 ending 11 September 2026.
