Have you done the film dope? No No, what is the film dope? I think there's a film called dope. Okay. It's about dopey I think there is a film called dope. I am you probably right? We look it up. Yeah, look it up. I will look it up. I dare you if it's about a person who's a real Yeah, total 2015 film. Okay. Yep with that ASAP Rocky in it and Zoe Krabitz. Oh, yeah Yeah, that's that's correct good for me. There you go a rapper and so he's really Krabitz So so you're talking though about hope yes, the new it's a Korean monster movie Kind of what is it called the sci-fi action thriller? Okay from Hybrid Korea they call those films hybrid. It's the director. I can't remember his name now at the top of my head I'm sorry. It's hard to remember names from other languages sometimes

particularly when you have like a bunch of names in your head because you're just talking about it last night and But he did a horror movie that came out a few years ago and thinking he does a movie every decade I guess because okay is he did a movie called the wailing in two His name is Nahong Jin. Thank you. He did wrote it also produced it. Yeah, yeah He's starring in it sure isn't he is not nope, but but The lead sort of the sort of lead actor the actor plays the sheriff in the in the film a he is Also in the wailing so he does reuse who apparently I didn't know this was described by a Korean Person that I was watching a video by he's described him as the Tom Hanks of Korea. Hmm Separately the popular actor. He's a popular actor. They're like does a wide variety of things There's wide variety of things and is you know because he can do some comedy. He can do some drama when you think Tom Hanks when I go like if I was to say describe Tom Hanks Besides versatile. Let's not do that. I was a huge every man

But yeah, every man. Yeah, but like what do you see like the first thing you think of Tom Hanks when you think of Tom Hanks Is him in what type of thing? I would think of him as being like late comedy I would think of him as world war two. Oh really just because he's so world war two ish now. Okay. Yeah, he's a gray hound. Yeah, a gray hound too Is there a ground to coming up. Yeah. Oh wow. Yeah, gray hound gray hound to Saving private Ryan. Yeah, I mean that's it. No, you sure? No, he's produced like a whole bunch of world war two Okay, okay, he's soaking in the world war two. He's really into it. He's basically become everyone's dad Who's really into world war two? But he's also Tom Hanks, which means when he goes you know, we should make something about that People go, yes, sir, mr. Hanks and all of a sudden you got a TV series that's banned of brothers. Yeah, yeah Yeah, I mean, okay, he's produced that stuff But but I think of him as an actor. I think if him is sort of like like comedy sort of you know So you know think of him in Philadelphia. I don't think of him Philadelphia

I know that's you know, I know he did that movie. I know that is a movie starting Tom Hanks But it is I feel like it's made more like catch me if you can or That thing you do you think of him as a man with one red shoe. I think of him as a man with one Exactly to someone who's you think of him as japano in pano you know, he threw all his money down a money pit He fell in love with the mermaid and he got splashed. I just feel like you know, that's that's his kind of you know He got big. He was little letting up big I also think of him as a toy story Sure, you just keeps going back to that well and keeping I would say you know what there's a this bullshit What I was about to say okay? He's keeping Tim Allen alive But like Tim Allen has is so-con in sitcoms so he's fine. Yeah, Tim will always like a Tim Allen sitcom where he's just like Yeah, yeah, yeah, they'll like that. That's yeah it appeals to to dads great gray how-to is filming right now Yeah, it's about a cruiser of battleship to me. I don't really know much about it. I didn't see the first one

Oh, it's on Apple TV you. Yeah, it's alright. Yeah, you can go see it if you want. I guess I can enjoy I still have Apple TV I should cancel that actually think about it. All right, you can you can do that if you like well because you know There's no widow's Bay. What's the point? Name a movie where he plays six characters six characters that would be Claudette. Let's thank you very much controversial controversialy. Why controversial? Yellow face. Oh, okay name a movie where he plays Six characters. Wow Holy macaroni. Nice job. Thank you. You Name a film where he plays two characters. You're not gonna get this one. There's no way you can get this one. I'm not gonna get this one Hey, no one can get this one No one. It's from 1992. Okay. You're not gonna get it. Yeah, that's a while ago. There's no way you can get it I can tell you everything about it. I can tell you that it's directed by Richard Donner I can tell you he's the lead. I can tell you Lorraine Braco's in it. I can tell you Elijah Woods in it. Yeah, I can tell you Adam Baldwin's in it. Wow

I didn't help you at all. No, I don't know. It's one of those movies that came in when I suppose yeah Richard Donner not not at his peak period anymore. I suppose nope. I can tell you it's called radio flyer And you still wouldn't get it. I so I yeah, I guess that's about a he plays the older version of Mike and he's also the narrator Okay, I guess that's kind of cheating Well, I don't feel like I don't know what you're I don't see what you remember that film when you say that Not like I remember that movie coming out of it because the you know, it was that's any of like a toy toy wagon right? Yeah, here's what I'm gonna do. Okay, I'm gonna tell you his character name in movies and you tell me What he plays what movie it is all right Lawrence what lay born the third So he's a big snooty guy. Yeah, what movies that? These are snooty these snooty guys gets put this place. It's not a fine-for-the-vanities. Nope. That's a different name. Nope. It's from 1985 Oh 1985. Yep. Oh, it was very important movie for him personally. Was it personally? It's not bachelor party. No bachelor party plays Rick

Gatsko. Okay, that's like from about the same time. Oh, I know it is peace that Peace Corps one. Yeah, called it's called Peace Corps. He ends with a V Because the business of the V. Yeah, old volunteers. Thank you so much with John Candy. Yep What film does he play I'll take either of these okay? Give me give me both if you can detective pep Strebeck, okay, and detective Scott. I can't tell you his last name because it's in the title. Okay, so Detective Scott me or Detective Pepp Strebeck give me either of those movies either of those movies and we've talked about one of them on the show He played it like I don't need a dragnet. Yes, that's one. Okay. Thank you. You've gotten the street back Okay, and the other one is pep pep Detective Scott oh Scott blank. Yeah, but it's a name is his name is in the title the name is the title one of two names in the title Oh my god. Oh turner and hooch. Thanks so much. Joe banks. Joe banks. Joe banks. Is that oh is that the one life for whatever is that life?

No, no Joe banks. Yep, first name is in the title. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Joe versus the volcano. Thank you very much Which is a good movie I think Joe Fox Joe Fox Let's throw another Joe with you Joe Fox. Is that the money pit? Nope. Is that it was a remake? Oh, it's a remake Yeah, remake of another movie. That's a better movie. It's a remake of another movie. That's a better movie That is a better movie is it Joe Fox Joe Fox and Meg Ryan is his co star. Oh a team a T. Oh wait That's not that one. It's not that one. It's not that one. It's not that one. It's not that one. It's not you got mail. It's not you got mail. Yes, okay. Thank you very much Which film does he play agent Carl hand-radi is that catch me see catch me if you can yes, that would be correct well done You well done what movie does he play I thought we took the character the last one. Okay. It's a hard one. Mm-hmm Larry crown. Oh, oh, that's a good that's called a

Recron yeah I actually enjoy that film. I know that it was that wasn't too hard. It's a very small small movie But it's good. He plays a surprising amount of roles where that's the title like captain Phillips He plays captain Phillips. Sully. He plays Sully. Yeah, Charlie Wilson's war to play He's he's he's Charlie Wilson. Yeah, he is good for me. What if I was to say like if he was Robert Langdon who Robert Langdon Yeah, what what movie is is he Robert Langdon in it's a bit of a trick He's Robert Langdon more than one movie. Oh really? Yes. Oh, so that would be the Whatever demons and angels what the venture code. Oh, yeah, the demons and angels me would have accepted because that was one Well done for some reason that title six in my head more than the DaVinci code I don't know as it should as it should and I think that's it All right the rest of the mode because One movie does he play japetto in But that be Robert's beckus's Disasterous Pinocchio films Jerry why not you know anytime. I want to be horrified date. Mm-hmm. All you got to do yeah

Look up the plot to Pinocchio Like the original their original Pinocchio a different to cooler time because like something that I always thought about Pinocchio is It's it's the the one Disney film where none of the villains have come up in every one of them gets away with it Mm-hmm the only ones that ever suffer yeah are the good characters for their minor sins. Okay, I wouldn't say those kids are good But okay, what why are they bad that is Benjabrat's why they play pool in the different root beer smoke it in drinking I think they're drinking beer aren't they know they're gonna root beer if you're if you're not a Disney movie Yeah, they're drinking root beer smoking cigars though. That's true. They're mostly that's a mortal sin That's worth being enslaved over. Yes, that's exactly right and turn into a donkey Mm-hmm. Let's face it once they're turned into donkey. They don't have their memories anymore. That's not true. They're no longer humans That's not true. They're just they don't remember anything. That's absolutely not true. They're just they're just an animal They can look in their eyes and they can see no no you can see that's why he starts bringing. He's no longer human Mm-hmm. No, that's not true. So I looked at cuz What gives you the idea that they are human? They do have memory. Oh besides the original book

Well, I'm just talking about the Disney movie the Disney movie. Yeah, because the way he looks the donkey is looking pleadingly at Pinocchio As he's dragged away to eternal slavery that would probably be it Look in his eye where he's like clearly still himself eternal. He's gonna die. That's a fair point. Yeah, sorry about that Let's be fair and you think like He's got a pass away, but he can't and also he's a donkey But he's a pant because yeah, he's a sin so he's gonna die in his sins So of course that that poor boy is is damned for eternity There's nothing you can do about it seems pretty it seems but we'll be going to donkey hell or will he go to human hell? This is the question. Yeah, that is a question. Okay, so here's here's my thing So I just I wrote a little thing up today It was just a thing which was like how everyone shocked by this walking talking puppet in the Pinocchio world But no one seems to care that there's a fox dressed as a man who's walking around seeing songs Yeah, no one gives a shit one about that character. So that's honest John is him and he gets away with it in the in the story

But I was like he doesn't get away with it. There's no way in Pinocchio the book the cruelest book in the world He gets away with it. Sure does not so in the book Pinocchio. Yeah, yeah, they con Pinocchio try to take him to To a puppet thing wherever and So but the puppeteer is actually really nice and was oh wait. You're living in a life. Don't know No, anyway, here's some money. I'll give you some money. You go get out of here. You like nice guy nice Puppeteer guy and the movie night there But this book fine and then the so the the the the the the Fox and the cat are Are say oh We can get you more money with that all you do is plant it in this magical force and it'll grow money and you can give that money to your dad And poucus that's a great idea and a blackbird shows up and goes hey man They're ripping you off and the cat eats the bird. Oh really? Yeah, and Pinocchio's horrified by this but then he goes oh no That was just a crazy bird that just talks too much

Let's go get some dinner so they go to a restaurant yeah in and they have dinner have a big meal and they tell the in-caper Please wake us up at midnight because that's when we got a barrier money. Yeah, the in-caper's alright That's fine so these two wake up early get lost leave So Pinocchio is stuck with a bill yeah, it's like all right Then he leaves after having to pay the bill and they pretend to be robbers. You try to rob them. Yeah Pinocchio bites the cats paw Okay, so that happens they run off yeah the meat Pinocchio again and go hey man and they see he sees that the cats got like No lawns. Yeah, yeah, just a rough night. Sorry We had to go check to make sure things were safe. We're gonna bear the money. Let's go do it Yeah, so they got to bury the money they they bury they bury the money and then Pinocchio walks away and they dig the money up yeah and poke you catch them and they they grab Pinocchio and they hang in for a tree

Okay, so does that So later on in the story They run into the cat and the fox again and the cat and the fox hasn't got his tail He's just a mess. He's got no fur the cats Just even worse shape But the fox sold his tail for food. Okay, and they're just broke an awful and Pinocchio is now doing great and And the fox is please help us. Yeah, and Pinocchio of course says screw you. Yeah screw you go climb a rope Yeah, you you live in your sins And you and you listen that's the end of the those guys and so they did things didn't work out for them And also by the way Pinocchio bit of an asshole like I know they tried to hang him But What happens to the dunky in that because he does go through the donkey thing in his friend Don't you think the island? Yeah, don't yeah pleasure pleasure island. Don't you island? Whatever it's called Yeah, he's he's turns into a donkey. So does the his friend his friend is enslaved and and Pinocchio

Goes to someone who's like oh, I'm gonna make a code out of your donkey skin Yeah, I'm gonna drown you so he tries to drown Pinocchio in the in the river. Yeah, but the fish eat the donkey flesh All the donkey flesh they love that tasty donkey flesh the Amazon Yeah, and then poke just floats up as a puppet that's still in there So there you go. So that's what his adventure is as a donkey, but much much much much later after you know It's get's jupetto out of the fish. Which is a dog fish in this They end up working on a farm and who do they meet on the farm, but they're donkey friend Okay, his donkey friend. Yeah, who is dying of exhaustion and and working himself to death and Pinocchio hasn't I still said moment with this round to just about just dies. Oh, man, and so that's what happens to him Hey, wait, it's a nightmare of a story What a great show don't cook. Yeah. Hey, remember what happens to Jimny cricket? Well two things. Yeah, okay Okay, okay, so I know you get stepped on Right first thing

Yeah, Jimny cricket who doesn't call himself that yeah, but is a it's the ethical cricket yeah shows up and is like hey Pinocchio don't do that step crushed dead When Pinocchio's hanging from a tree There's a fairy who might be dead that's there and it's like I could save them But I don't know if he's dead or alive. So three doctors show up one doctor is an owl and the owl's like who is alive And there's another one I forget the animal he is and they go oh he's dead and the third one is the ghost of the cricket He's a doctor he's doctor cricket goes to and but he's a doctor. Yeah, but he's a ghost of a cricket How does that work? Yeah, yeah And and so they said now he's he's alive and the the fairy helps him. Yeah, yeah, but the fairies did Because the fairies actually been dead and is now waiting for death to show up and and pick them up Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a weird book. It is a weird book. Yeah, right? It's a weird cartoon too. It's a weird time

It's a weird time. It was a weird time. It's right because I was watching something and they're telling the Actual story of Goldilocks in the three bears tell me more which was written by an aunt of a little girl and given to her as a Present this is in the Victorian era sometime in the 18th century early 1800s and in the story Goldilocks is an old woman like a woman not a not a child Did she have golden hair? I don't know why if she's old Do you like I mean just like no, no, no, that's not she's not cold. I don't think it's called Goldilocks Oh, it's not okay. I thought you said okay. Yeah, yeah, it's just like this is the you know It's become Goldilocks and the three bears and in this original story She's a like a grown woman. That's why she breaks a chair. That's why she breaks You know, that's why she's so fussy about things and that's what and it's not poor. She she drinks milk So that's why it's when it's warm and when it's cold and you know that she wants it just right, you know and then okay It's kind of interesting and then I can't remember the whole thing But I just thought it was one of those things where it's horrific of course because it's I think she gets eaten by the bears

There's something and it's the usual thing and it's kind of like why would someone write that story and give you a talk? Okay, so is this the one that's written by Madame de Aldenoy? I don't know. Okay. It's included in a book called the Blue Fairy book It is from 1697 Would you like to hear the full story? It's three paragraphs long. Okay. If you do I don't want to step on your tail. No, no, there's three here We got this here and by tailing T.A. Ali okay, not the fox's tail would you have to sell for for food? My god Pinocchio just give them a buck You know, there's no forgiveness in this one. I mean what are they gonna do? They're just gonna carry on with their wicked ways. This is bullshit. I got pretty Goldilocks here This is this is garbage. Nah, this seems what oh this is wrong. This is not the story Yeah, I don't think that it didn't sound there because I think it was from the early Victorian era that it was written Yeah, I was just curious what that one would say but yeah, I'm looking for the original story Okay, Goldilocks and the three bears. All right, so you gotta like tell me what's the original story?

Come on. I don't need to know that. I don't need to know that shit. No, I don't need to know anything about that No, this isn't helping me at all. Do you know who's really useless right now is? Is that Wikipedia? Oh really what? Have you been given them money? I do because they're not helping me here I got an email from them today actually from Jimmy Wales Who is the founder founder of Wikipedia? Okay, and he he thank me for giving them $15 last year Oh, and he's like we hope that you can give us $15 this year and I was sticking to myself. I don't think I gave him $15 last year I think I gave him $10. Are they like are they like raising it up slightly? Because they think I won't remember what I gave them last year and then I'll be like and the next year They'll write and say thank you for $20 giving us $20 last year. Please I do like to give them money because I use Wikipedia a lot Okay, so here's the thing the original version of the tale tells the story of an impudent and bad old woman Who enters the forest home of three bachelor bears? bachelor bears that's right there three bachelor bears. Let me just see if yeah, here we go. Here's the story

Okay, so there's three male bears a small bear meeting bear large bear they live together in a house in the woods So these are yeah, so far checks out these are Yeah, these are three bears now you know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah, totally yeah, yeah root bears. Okay Um, so anyway, this is Robert Southeast's story uh There'scribed as good nature trusting harmless clean and hospitable the bears yes now sounds like a bear Now I know you were saying milk. I've got something else here. Okay. Each bear has his own bowl of porges on chair and on bed Okay, one day While their hot porges cooling they wander through the woods. Yeah, clubbing Oh An old woman described through the story as an insolent means swearing ugly dirty and a bag of bond who belongs in a reformatory Discoveres the bears home. She looks to the keyhole Okay, uh, and opens the latch. Yeah, how? Oh, and they're pretty simple in those days you just yeah

It's interesting the bear hairpin she could like reach in and yeah, it's interesting that a bear would have like a Latch that bears have privacy as well like that. Yeah, that's fair And after ensuring that no one is at home she enters. Mm-hmm The old woman tries the porridge or the big bear. It's too hot for yeah tries the pores of the middle bear So cold eats the porridge of the smallest bear. Okay, next she sits in the chairs We all do the all break After trying the big bear is bad and the middle bear is bad Small bear who return home sorry, which is his climax one after another they discovered a bottle of Smallest bear finds the woman exclaim someone has laid down in my bed. There she is still startled the old woman jumps Out the window runs away has never seen again. Fuck that. Oh, okay. That's garbage. That's absolute garbage She's gotta be murdered by these bears Right. Yeah. Yeah, tell me and choose spirit of fairy tales. I don't know. This is me also. I was I don't know where this person was getting his information from I don't know. No, I'm very different source. I don't like it. This is this should be one of those stories You know where yeah, they all

Something really bad goes down. Oh, they're bears something something grisly will happen. Yeah, that's only fair But no we get to a rather sad denouement or the bear runs off or the woman runs off in the bears are left without their porch Three broken chairs and beds that are unmade after they carefully made them before they went for their walk I think what it would be is bears are want to do make their beds. I would think it would be The you know, yeah, so they come home like some some's been in my bed. Yeah, there they are As I grow and then she's like oh she runs and she runs thinking she's going to the door She opens up a door and gets inside and that's where they keep the food and it's all these grandmothers Just full of grandmas. I think the end of that mindy python sketch where the milkman's leered upstairs Oh, the best The best sketch So good It's pretty pretty sure but yeah, it's very good very effective Yeah, no, it would be good if it ended with the baby bear her skin fits in best The end It's just right here's what I would do

Did like my suggestion a well, no, I like it. I like it, but I'm thinking this is okay. So like Tries the three things and the only ones that are ever comfortable to them are the baby bear ones or the small bear ones yeah, and then So the bait the the the the baby bear goes up and sees that she's sleeping in the bed and then the baby bear takes the head off and she's an old woman They're too and she's like stop blowing my scam This is the reason she likes it because this is the only one that's designed for people Because I'm a person and I'm living with his bears and she's like what happened years ago I got caught like you And I had to kill the bear um skinned it got into its skin. I've been living as a bear this whole time You need to fuck the fuck off To which the old woman goes yeah, that's a good point takes out a hairpin and kills her yes kills the other one Uh, and uh, she takes its place takes his place. Yeah, and puts the and puts the woman who's been living as a bear in the bed

Yeah, and then takes his place and then goes hey, I found an old lady in the bed and like, look at this and I'm like oh my gosh That's terrible. She smells like one of us That's that's how they fool you Anyway What's your name? I've had a traumatic brain injury and I can't remember Anyway, that's how it goes sure yeah, that's a good ending. Yeah, then you find out that the medium bear is a wolf He's just trying to get away from the little red riding. Yeah, he's on the lamb. Yeah, down the lamb That hunter is a real bad. Yeah, real son of a b. I don't want to swear it on the show. Please don't I know we have an explicit rating, but I always thought that just meant that we're here. I think we're just Obvious and everything we're explicit with our emotions. Yeah, that's exactly how we feel about things We don't hide any ever feelings. So um, I just came back from Ottawa. You did I did I went to a con nation's capital Yeah, it is our nation's capital I didn't see much of it because we were at one of those cons that's like at the airport and just at the airport You just yeah, you're just on the outskirts of town the whole time

Yeah, and they had a weird thing off the top because it's one of these conventions where they have You know celebrities from film and television from the world of wrestling. Okay Get it such slowly downhill and then us famous rock collectors Well, this was the thing was we had to do a thing off the top where we all went on to a stage Yeah, and it's like no, that's just seeming on a stage So I'm on a stage and I'm standing next to uh, forget the gentleman's name. Oh, I feel terrible about it. Yeah, yeah But played Gus Fring on breaking bad. Okay, Tom. Thanks. No. Oh you. Why would you why would you be this kind of person? Uh, but so okay. I know who you mean. We all know who you mean. It's okay. We don't have to know he's he's the villain in everything Yes, yes, he's he's amazing. He's a villain in the Grogu thing or something. Yeah Uh, and the Mandalorian. Yeah, he's in every Spike Lee movie and My wife was delighted that he was the same height as her Is he small? Jin Carlo Esposito. Yeah, well, he's my wife's height. I'm not gonna say my wife is small

But I was a fan of his on homicide. He was really good on the TV show homicide Oh really and yeah, and he's in every Spike Lee movie, you know, he's he's in Bob Roberts He's just been acting for a million years and so I don't remember that was just really thrilling and he was also super Super sweet and that was cool and then on my other side was Mick Foley the wrestler. Do you know Mick Foley? I do not uh, if you know wrestling at all He does he do his own sound effects Uh, he does one called bang bang because that's like his catchphrase. Okay. Okay But if you ever see anything about wrestling he's like one of the the best guys. Okay, like best doesn't he's one of the best But also he's like one of the best people so that was also very very cool A bunch of other People there. Yeah, but I was I was pretty thrilled. Yeah to see the GM Carlo Esposito and and because Our table was near one of the main washroom. It's not one. I watched him. What's that? It's not one Carlo. Sure. Why not? Okay He would walk to the bathroom. Yeah Regular public bathroom like a person. Yeah many times during the con. Mm-hmm

So I got to watch him before and after he Do you look a little later? No, little pep in his step. Yeah, he couldn't make a lot of eye contact because he had to Especially when he was peeing. Yeah, yeah, even though I tried Um Yeah, to go back to where the famous people were. Yeah, yeah, yeah back to this But here was here was something because I was looking him up going like oh, I wonder like am I missing anything that he's that he's done It's like no, he's an absolutely everything. Everything he did that movie both the the ballerina vampire last year Okay, he was in the boys and I was sitting next to the co creator of the boys And I was what Eric Krypki Derek. Oh, okay. Oh, I'll look him up in a second. I don't know, but he was that here's the story Um, and it's in Wikipedia and it's a public thing so it's not like tells out of school sure sure We paid $15 I paid $15 so it could be so we can just rip him off all we want so just before he got Breaking bad. Yeah, he was in a bad state. So

We're talking about the guy who created the boys. No, no, we're not We're talking about mr. Esposito. Okay, uh, he was in a bad state. Yeah Really? Throw it away. So things were not going well Yeah, and he was trying to hire someone to murder him for the insurance money So his kids could get the insurance money that never works, but you know, well It didn't work here either because he ended up getting this role and then it changed his life Yeah, roll over lifetime and now he's in absolutely everything whatever I would not have known who he was Wasn't he in community before he did breaking bad? Not in community. No He was on community. He did that episode where Yeah, like the video game episode or something. Oh, yes. He was he was the brother of Chevy Chase. That's correct Um, was that after breaking bad or I thought it made maybe I think that's in the middle of breaking bad. Okay He's also you'd really recognize it You know, we did you see do the right thing thing in the theaters? I think we might have seen it together Uh, yeah, he's in there and he's predominant there isn't predominant so many things. Yeah

But yeah, that was uh, it was weird because the other day I was talking to my landlady And just kind of yelling over the fence because we have a step that broke and so I had I saw this person there and I was like, oh, that was great. Yeah, and and somehow it brought up like yeah I heard he was having a hard time before uh before Doing breaking bad and and and it was clear she didn't know this element. Yeah, I was like yeah really bad Well, what do you mean? Well, not something I want to yell I don't want to yell he was planning his own murder. Yeah, yeah, it doesn't seem appropriate to yell over a fence But yeah, it got that it got that bad. So where is he was he on the dark web looking for You know what I didn't ask him I want more details. Okay. Well next time you see him Next time you see more to the bathroom follow him and then ask him these questions for me. Yep. Please no Okay, so who was the co-creator of the boys? I mean the uh, the comic book Derrick the comic Robertson. I was thinking the TV show you're talking about sorry. Yuck TV shows

Boo TV shows. No, they're fine. I watched I watched too hard. Eric Krifty developed it. Yes, you're right The guy who directed who created supernatural and left it just the right time Uh, I watched two seasons of the boys. Yep, and then I stopped. Okay, there's more. I watched an episode and he went You know what I don't need this. I don't need this. I don't need to see it. I don't need to watch it I don't need to know about it. I don't need to have any part of it in my life And that was the end of that. Well here was the and I feel like I Once again, you hit me. Feel like I left it the right time. I feel like the end of the second season. Yeah, where the the two ladies beat him up Okay, home lander. I'm like, that's good enough. That's an ending People seem to have really liked where it finally ended up in compinction and it was a spin-off and blah blah blah blah Yeah, yeah, uh, here was who I was kind of thrilled to meet was a fella named Aslan. Oh, yes, the political cartoonist. Can you and political cartoonist? Yes We have become friends with Michael to add her who's another

Canadian political cartoonist and there and their buds. Not a name dropping. They were sitting. They were sitting next to us Okay, and my wife's a political cartoonist as well But she does not have the order of Canada and that's how they're all different They both have the order of Canada, but just kind of cool. That is really cool She better do more Canadian political cartoons and I want I agree But what I make up I have karni what I got to tell him yeah Which was like has no way I can tell him this without it being weird But we ended up like talking for quite a bit and I was like I can probably win this uh I was like So I'm like either six or seven years old And I read the comics in the paper every every day and I'm in Montreal and he Is the cartoonist for the Montreal Gazette okay, and I'm reading My parents had the Montreal star so I read that regularly But when my I went over to my grandparents I would read that one because and I like the mic the the the star one because there was a cartoonist name I believe I want to say John Jones John Yardley Jones okay and the Martian man hunter no

Who would hide cats in their editorial cartoon okay little black cats yeah So I'd always look for the cats and then I'd look at the cartoons and I wouldn't get them And then I'd usually copy the cartoon because I copy all the cartoons yeah When I was at my grandparents I would draw even more so I would take like all their Gazettes and I would I would read the comics that they'd save for me and they'd also save the editorial cartoons And then I draw the political cartoon characters as well and so I used to draw Trudeau a lot and I would draw Levec and I would draw all these characters very drawable faces very Drawable faces and done in such a broad style and so I draw them having adventures with spider-ran Okay That was my thing so I told them this I was like oh I used to draw your cartoons But now it was like seven and one of my little tricks that I would do the impressed adults was Do you want to see a drawing of Rennie Levec and then I would like draw a picture of Rennie Levec and a six-year-old drawing Rennie Levec is kind of cool yeah And so I drew it in front of him That's pretty good

And I was like whoa this was a long time coming this compliment Some of you hear 53 years later is pretty good And in fact, I got a print from him that was one of his favorite Or one of his most beloved cartoons which is Rennie Levec Saying okay everybody take a volume it was very great after he got elected Okay, and so he signed that for me and that was really cool And yeah, we got to hang out for a bit and it was very very sweet This nice. Yeah, and he gave the adder this special ring Okay, and decoder ring it was not a decoder ring, but it was cool He who's saying how I watched a presentation for this yeah, and when dadter whose name is Terry Terry Mosher Was on vacation with the islam is Terry Mosher Islam was sorry with it. Okay. That's correct. I'm mixing the two up. Okay, Terry Mosher is a Zlan named after the name is named after his daughter with one letter removed I see okay. Yeah, sure it's one letter removed

No one letter added because the real name was reason This guy right try to get through a story grab a machete Try tell this as fast as I can So he's in the Caribbean with his with his wife and his wife gives him a ring. Yeah, and she's like oh, that's nice But it was like just a bunch of skulls around this ring and it's like well, I'm not a hell's angel What's this about and it's like oh those are all the editors you've survived and like oh, yeah That's what right about He was wearing it and and another friend of his who's in their trail cartoon is what what's that about like these my editors I was about oh, I want one of those okay So he got one made for his friend yeah, then over time. He's presented a different editor of cartoonists Yeah, yeah, and it's like you've survived this amount of time Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's good. And so Pia mentioned I want one like well one day So now she's on a quest to get that ring nice But he presented one to Michael on stage and it was very sweet and the cbc covered it and okay, that was good fun Fun time, that's your auto a trip. That's my auto a trip and a lot of nice snacks. Oh, yeah, nice snacks in the snack room

No, you're okay really bad breakfast at the hill Why was it bad was just bad okay, it was just sad was it like in the restaurant or in your room? I'm sorry what in the restaurant what what are you talking about oh, there's no restaurant no there was not There was no restaurant. It was a hotel with no restaurant It's a hilt and not close to other shit. Yeah, we ended up when we wanted to go to a restaurant once we went to the hotel next door Okay, you had a restaurant. Okay, no, this hotel did not have a restaurant. It's a hilton. Yes, it did. It was a hilton You're there how do they have a hot breakfast? Well, yeah, it's some chafing dishes. They would bring out with some stuff And okay, they had that but they did not have a restaurant So yeah, that was a kind of rubbery eggs and the sausage that you went And you know By day four you realized what was safe to eat and what wasn't if you meet your cereal and your yogurt and you go about your business Yeah, but it was free well Yeah, someone paid for the hotel room. So whoever paid for the hotel room. Yeah, wasn't free to them. No, I guess that I was included

I just wanted if it was included in the in the room. It was included with the room. That's correct So yes, I did choice. I had to eat things because they was included with the room But then at the at the at the con they had some nice little food as well and what they treat people nice at those things That's good. That's good. That's funny. At least it was in Ottawa this year's well like the summer She was there a couple weeks before you went. Were there any contortionists around there? There were no contortionists That's how our trip was different. That's very different because we did have Cirque du Soleil people that were also there So whenever you got a picture taken I'll just say this real fast on stage A Cirque du Soleil person would be in front of you all twisted in a knot. You're just like Jesus I'm Here's a picture of me with Aslan and a human hula hoop pretty. Yes There is a there is a picture of this exactly that and then Mick Foley and then De Carlo, but please continue about oh, he's down the car was there? No, he's saying De Adder Espezito Oh, I can't get names. Forget it. I've been on a trip. I'm still jet lagged sure sure continue

Lisa, what's she doing? She's in Ottawa. Yeah, oh, no, she just went there for some phone and a club stuff Okay, so she's just getting pictures taken on our stages with horses. Yeah, she's Our horse with the dormer under contortionist horses. Yeah, she followed it to the bathroom to see what's going on It's old, you know, what a horse bathroom look like there's one of the horses there had a pretty bad career in horse racing It was trying to pay another horse to kill them. Oh, no, yeah, it's her what a story. Oh, well, they started betting on them So yeah, that's awful. Yeah, so sad then this horse got a this horse got a TV show was really lucky The mayor of Easton. Wow, there we go. It's pretty good, right? And then gotten uh did uh Did a did a cop show, you know what it was called? Oh cold case That's good. Yeah, I did that movie. What was that with Tom Hanks? Philly, Delphi, I was you know what? I was gonna do because we were doing TV shows It's always sunny and Philly, Delphi, oh, that's good. That's good. That's better. Sorry I just went back to the Tom Hanks well. Mm-hmm. I like to you know bring back things. What is that called vomiting?

Anyway, we got nothing else Can't think of any of the horse things with honey Sadly, sadly, we have to move former fairies like if you've got some horse reference puns I'm all for it. I don't want to serve any problems. Okay No more puns what I say So um Switch it. Wow am I switching gears. Okay. Look at me So how are things going with family and such things? Okay, that's a very leading question. Yeah, because you know so Too fried like not this for like two weeks ago on friday my brother called in the evening to tell me This is not my brother who's moved to Nova Scotia My brother who is my dad's caretaker and he called to say that dad had gone to the hospital and according to my brother He had not been eating or drinking very much and had fallen twice So the second the first time he fell Where they said oh he just heard his leg in his arm. So I thought well, that's not so bad But when he fell the second time he fell in his face Go great and then so he called the ambulance and they took took him to the hospital

So at least and I immediately went there to see him in emergency and and he was quite he was quite um What's the word I'm looking for he was quite Confused okay, but what was where he was? What was happening he kept thinking that the nurses were people he'd been to school with Be like oh that girl. I think I went to school with And and he also looked crazy because you know he just got to the hospital His hair was askew is all over the place and he Did recognize you when you came out he did he did when I came and he went David And you recognize Lisa as well like that that that that was fine It was just that he just he didn't know he's in the hospital. He was just having a lot of trouble figuring stuff out and and you know and I kind of visited him a couple weeks ago And he wasn't there and I hadn't gone back for a while because to be honest I've been kind of neglectful that way But I just don't like going to the house because my brother is slowly turning it into a junkyard Yeah, and I just think he mad so and I just don't want to the aggravation so yeah

I'm kind of like oh this avoid going So I feel bad about it, but don't but okay, so then so you know I was like so shocked to see him though because he looked so skinny and you know He just just looked like if you'd seen him you would have thought oh he has like days left to live like these almost he's almost dead and So you know I've been just you know I've been there every day for the last two weeks Disappear on visit and drop in and say hi and he has gotten better like a lot better. Okay. Good And I think it's like when he was admitted his kidney functions were at 8% his sodium was off the charts. Hi He was his blood pressure had dropped precipitously. Now is this a result of the fall or is this just how he was? I think this is because this slow neglect And this is not in not a criticism of my brother because my brother is not a nurse Right, and if I sit to my dad how you feeling dad and you went oh, I feel fine. I would say okay, dad's feeling fine I wouldn't go are you eating are you like I just wouldn't know how what to look for what signs to look for and stuff like that

Right, you know, I'm a guy. So I just don't think in those terms, right Um if I was a professional nurse who knew how to when I looked at a person could recognize signs of illness or maybe things aren't going properly that would be more helpful obviously and so And also my brother, you know, he has addiction issues and also he is uh For some reason even though he gets like a monthly allowance from money from mom left for him He has taken up junk collecting like he goes around and pulls metal out of bins and stuff like that Takes it back to my dad's place and then he proceeds to like fill the backyard with all this crap And then he's pulling wires out of it and take pulling plastic apart and uh and take you know and trying to get So you know to be fair he is throwing stuff in the garbage, but it's still this big litter of of Shit all over the place all over the back Or all over the part of the backyard has been taken over and then half of the Garages full of all his garbage And he'll be saying it's not all fullest with my dad's cars parked in that other house So and I just say does your dad still drive?

Well, not now. Okay, very good. Can do so that's the next that's the next discussion to have with my dad I don't know how happy it would be about it, but I just anyway, so so yeah, he Yeah, he just he does a terrible But I haven't been in the hospital now for two weeks Like they got his kidney functions up to 27% Yeah, which was higher than his base level, which was about 20% the sodium's down only thing is having problem with is when he stands up His blood pressure drops precipitously It goes from like a Whatever, you know, I think I was like 105 over 83 which is pretty low already, but not terrible But when he stands up the bottom number isn't low, but okay, but when he stands up. Yeah, it goes down like 55 I know that's not good. That's not good. Okay. That's what you felt okay, right? So So they're trying to like find some answer to this or they've changed some moves medicine medication and they're and everything and They're talking about letting him out tomorrow But I was talking to the nurse yesterday. I didn't have time to go there today. I was talking to the nurse

Yesterday and she was saying That he still can't go to the bathroom on his own like still can't get up and walk to the bathroom on his own All right, he can't walk unassisted You know, he can't get up out of bed without feeling dizzy and and she says so because I don't think he's ready to go home No, no, and I bet clearly yeah, I think the doctors are kind of like well We know we've done what we can get him out of here. So yeah, I'm a bit concerned because Uh, my brother is I don't think he's equipped to deal with this level of fear so I mean I've already talked to to my my other brother My my no maritime brother maritime right. He'll you know He has an accent to go to the bear and you know, so he um I just said to him, you know Dad's going into a home like that's the next stage. Yeah, and your brother is the one with power of attorney Yes, that's right. Yeah, that's right Because what was also happening is because my brother dropped him off and only gave his name as as um As uh kit next to kin I was not allowed to have any information from the nurses because of privacy issues

So then I had to talk to my brother has power attorney and he just called the hospital and got it so that now I'm The contact person because no point having my other brother the contact person and Yeah, so I would been kind of dropping hints through the week while I've been talking to my dad Which is hard to do because my dad is also deaf So I feel really bad because I'm like yelling away in this before person hospital room now Other people trying to sleep. Yeah, dad. I think man. So I just did that. Does he have a hearing aids? Yeah hearing aids But they they're they're only so much. Yeah, you can only do so much with yeah, it's a physical It's uh, he's not ignoring you. He can't hear you uh, he might be ignoring you. He also probably is ignoring me, but yeah But I bet you know, I was saying to him like early on I was a sane lake. I just said dad I don't think this is working anymore like I don't think you living at home. It's working Because if it was working you wouldn't be here That's just a fact right and I kept kind of talking about it and then finally like a couple days ago when we were talking He said he said yeah, I guess he said yeah, I guess it's time we sold the house I was like oh, oh yeah, this is good if you saw him pay he's on board with this

This is great because the problem with when we tried to move him before he wasn't on board with it And then there are other family members who were interfering and I made a really messy situation. That's great Yeah, yeah, why does he have to go into a home? I don't know because he's sick And here's the other thing I didn't know that my brother didn't tell me my dad's not gonna tell me because he doesn't he's a private person He refused a Bone marrow biopsy last year because he thought he felt it would be too invasive And you couldn't see the point of doing it approaching nine years old which is fair enough. That's how he feels about it That's fine. I just would like to know what's going on and my brother should be telling me these things Yeah, and my other brother my as I say my so western wearing maritime brother He is he didn't know either he had no idea about it either he hadn't heard anything about this so like Come on, there should be like a communication and also and if my if my middle brother says I didn't know about this You should know about this because you agreed to do this for free rent Free room in board. Yeah, to look after dad And if you don't know these things and you're not you're not doing a job. So yeah, I was there

I don't know if I mentioned this but I was there collecting some stuff for dad Like getting his glasses and it's hearing a charger and some clothes and stuff and he's very anxious They didn't have his wallet or his car keys And I'm like I kept saying to him your car is at home dad. He came here by ambulance The car keys would have been he'd be like oh he didn't seem to understand and finally like he clued in one day when I went Your car's not here you took coming in there when he goes I came in by ambulance said yeah, oh okay What when did I by the way? It's so hard to know if he's confused or he just can't hear you. It's yeah Um When he was still in a emergency word this doctor came in and she's wearing a mask and she's trying to talk to him And I had to keep saying to her. Can you take off your mask because he can't see your mouth And he needs to see what you're saying to hear you and then she'd like unconsciously slip it back on again Because she's worried about giving an infection But it's okay. It's better that he knows what's going on then then we worry about the chance of infection He's you know, just like talk to us, but um Yeah, so anyway, I was there picking some stuff with my brothers and my brother was there and he's like because yeah, I was just wondering um when dad dies

I'm like who's thinking about this. This is not where we are right now, but anyway goes Yeah, when dad dies if I can just keep living here. I'll pay the taxes. I'm like no. Hey, that's not gonna die That's gonna live a couple more years at the at the least and he needs money for care So this house is gonna get sold so that has money for his care like yeah, you know, that's just how it is There's no there's no living here room room and board When dad is gone because the idea was the agreement was you would look after him and you didn't do a very good job of it Yeah, and I mean, sorry to be the to be fair right. I know you've been face. He's 90 right? I mean, that's 90 Yeah, so 90 is yeah Best of times. Yeah. Yeah. I know it's it's it's looming, but I you know Yeah, I still think that if he was in care if he had People looking after him making sure he's taking his medication making sure he's eating yeah all those things Then he would be doing better right like leases dad like leases brother Really wanted their dad to be close and so even though he had dementia he lived in there because he'd always lived in the basement suite of the

After he sold the farm and so you know, they would have him up for dinner when they came home from work and And stuff like that, but even though they were like doing their best he was still Losing weight still doing incredibly badly and getting more and more unhealthy and finally, you know, they finally gave in and Moved him into a home where yes, his memory is gone like he's really you know, he's not all there Nothing he's super healthy. Yeah, like he is doing really great other than the fact that he doesn't know who and what anything is He's doing great because he has care and he has people that are making sure he's eating and making sure he's eating well Yeah, and and I think my dad would be in the same situation that if he was in a place with care With you know people who know what they're doing and can make sure he's to get his medication keeping an eye on Changes and stuff like that and recognizing Potential problems that he would be doing a lot better and then you know, he'd be around a lot longer and that's preferable Yeah, so I um, it sounds like the right thing guys got because you can't your brother can

No, I mean, it's a patient looking after a patient Your brother should be in in a facility of it's of his own And it sounds like I was blaming my brother. I'm not blaming him. I'm just saying it's not working And that's this the fact like and it's not it's not on him. It's partly on him And if you want if you feel like blaming him that's an emotion that's legit You know, there's a lot of feelings and you can't yeah, but I do blame him for like like not Taking the steps to like make food for dad and make sure he's eating properly and stuff like that Like just going to the the store and buying frozen foods and stuff like that. It's not that's not as unhealthy for someone He's 90 to be eating food like that. Yeah, no matter his salt was high, you know, yeah So yeah, that's where I'm at right now and uh, I guess I guess when he comes out Once he leaves the hospital in is that is at home Then we can arrange a visit from the hospital social worker and they'll come over and we can discuss What things we could do, you know, and I am

Yeah, I mean, I mean if they suggested that maybe dad would be okay with having like a home nurse come and visit Every day and make sure he's getting his medication. Make sure he's eating properly I sort of okay with that, but I just feel like it's still the situation isn't controlled enough for my comfort Yeah, and I would just prefer him in a place that's separate from what where he is right now. Yeah and Of course, it's super depressing. I'm not looking forward to going through the house and sorting all all my parents worldly possessions into keep keeping discard piles and yeah stuff that dad can take into You know, hopefully you'll have like an apartment situation where you can I don't know if it depends what kind of situation is Because you know like Lisa's dad. It's just like the furniture that came comes with a room with like a kind of a Hospitalish bed. Yeah, that was my grandmother's situation. Yeah, yeah, and so obviously he can't take anything into that situation It just depends on the level of care obviously if it's if it's assisted living I think they can have some of their own furniture and have some freedom and stuff like that

I don't know where my dad would fall on this he can so like he can still read his watch He can know what date the date is he he can tell what time it is which something that Lisa's dad couldn't do before when he was still live like still living with My brother-in-law. So Yeah, like I feel like you know, he's pretty with it. He does have moments of confusion You'll forget that people visited he but you know, he asked what Mary asked what Eve? You know, he knows when Lisa comes. Mm-hmm. So, you know, those are good signs to me. So I don't know. I'm very hopeful I mean, I don't want to face the other reality yet. So it is cut. It's just You know, particularly when my mom passed away last summer, you know, I just don't want my dad to pass away this summer So yeah, that's just you know, it's sort of interesting because It's kind of interesting because I was listening to someone talking They're talking about money and they're talking about divorce and stuff like that and they're saying like in a Family like it could be hard In case where people are separating with with with money and stuff like that because usually only one person knows all the banking information knows all the stuff right and

And then the other person doesn't know it doesn't know anything like and that's my dad He didn't my mom did everything she did all the banking and stuff like that He didn't have to deal with any of those things. Yes, all the bills were paid all the accounts were accounted for My mom had her you know her Christmas account and she had her vacation account and she had her savings and checking in blah blah blah and I'm bad dad didn't do any of those things but I didn't cook he didn't wash his clothes He didn't clean the house. He didn't do he did outdoor. He did his outdoor chores. That was my dad's domain. Yeah And he did his nine to five job he did a nine to five job. My mom also works. So, you know, like and Have sort of interesting like like in my vice to anyone who's I don't think many of us are in this situation now in our generation Most of us share you know the cooking share the cleaning chores You know, we're it's not all one person doing everything. I hope You know, I'm the soup you know, hashtag tread wives, I suppose but Probably they just have a nanny they hire anyway, so um

But yeah, like I so I assume that when like when like when my mom passed away I just felt like oh, what is my dad gonna do like he doesn't know anything. Yeah, he really doesn't know how to do anything Other than because he doesn't work anymore and he's getting too old to do yard work What's left, you know, he's and he's not gonna start learning to cook now. Hey dad. Here's the Betty Crocker cookbook This is how to cook vegetables. You go to the back of it. You can big potatoes. You want new potatoes? You boil them this long. Yeah, tell you no no He's not interested in that right, so yeah, it's so it's so weird like that you To see someone become helpless You know when they seem so capable when you're when you're a kid Yeah, they talk about that a lot with couples who are older couple or at least maybe it's not as much now We'll see but like yeah when someone dies. Yeah half the information also dies So it's not like Alzheimer's Alzheimer's yeah, but it's it's it's like half of the brain is gone now You knew all our relatives birthdays and you knew all the things that we would do we would send out

$10 in the mail to an FU and we do this kind of stuff and yeah We prepare this stuff and oh and once once a year we got to get the furnace looked at when we got above above And that's their thing and then when they're gone That's all gone. Yeah, and that's just like what I don't know and everything's going to chaos Yeah, you had your split duties. That was my mom. I'm I'm almost you know she was She was a doer. She was done a person like to sit down until the evening once the evening came that it was time for to sit and read But during the day she just like constantly doing something yeah back in being cleaning Cooking baking whatever that that was just the way how she was you know head and she had to think she had to do every year You know, she had to get her canning them in the summer. Sure. I get this isn't you know She had all these little tasks and stuff. She she made clothes for the girls when they were little and you know And then she volunteered for 25 years at the penny pincher. You know, she was there three times a week doing stuff there for 25 years So yeah, this wow, you know, she was just like a lady who did not stop literally did not stop she did not stop until her body said you dead Let's basically what happened to her. So that'd be a terrible thing to see on your apple watch

You dead But that's what happened like she just she just pushed herself until the her body is just like nope can't do it anymore I cannot yeah cannot go another step. This is it for you You have to go to the hospital and then that's it for you like she just never left right But she was doing stuff up until the day that her body just said I'm done. Yeah, I've had enough. I have cancer I'm finished. Yeah, it's I All to say I feel so fortunate though to have had my parents as long as I did like like so many I know so many people like you who lost your dad young yeah, you know like that's terrible You know and I feel blessed that I have a dad who's 90 yeah, I had a mum who made it into her late 80s You know like I that's lucky, you know because so many people like Lisa lost her mum when she was young Lisa was in her 30s when her mother mum died. These were in your 30s right. Yeah my dad died at 62 Yeah, yeah too young to yeah, yeah, especially now that I'm like coming up on 60 To yeah Yeah, that's the thing. I mean Lisa's in the weird situation when I'm older than yeah, I can remember my dad ever being

That's gonna be strange. Yeah. Yeah. I have a friend a work friend is that passed away when he was in his early 40s So he my friend is work is you know coming up in that age I think 42 is the one that passed away and You know, it's a scary in a couple ways right because you're kind of like will I live longer than my dad? Well, I have what my dad had it caused him to pass away so young those are questions You know and there are questions I have to answer because I am parents who lived into a very poor age I mean obviously genetic lottery don't know where you're gonna end up in this but it's it's I feel do you feel very fortunate, you know, do I feel fortunate that I have to yell at him in a hospital word? No, I don't feel fortunate, but it's you know, I do love to visit him and I like you know, so Uh, yeah, I think I was saying to someone and I said yeah, you know what I never cared for my parents But I really cared about my parents, you know, so I'm really worried about them But I wouldn't want to hang around with them too much, you know So because I you know can I be called fat so many times before you oh

He's been resenting it. Yeah God the amount of times. Yeah. Yeah, like I use yeah and and the other way too too thin too fat to okay You let me know and it's just right and then I'll come over yeah Goldie Luxe. Yeah, we're gonna end up going off Yeah, I hear this thing about this mean old lady What happened to her apparently nothing I don't know. Oh, dude. Where's this store? Yeah, yeah, she was a little ridred riding hoods grandma. So she ran there got cut home and then we'll feed her oh, yeah Yeah, there you go She just moved one fairy tale over Interesting. So yeah, did your parents read to you when you were a kid? No, that's why I learned to read Before kid to go to the other room what so okay, so they didn't read to you no So where'd you get the books do they have we would we'll go to the library? Okay, and then they go you're on your own Yeah, yeah, we just would choose books to pick home okay and I would just I figured I had to read from from like how you know like just Dr. Suce and stuff like that Okay, because they repeat the words so many times they discuss her I would I would learn mostly from electric company

That's good like I'd write down everything every word that was on electric I would have a lot of them thinking about it. I didn't a lot of like copying like a lot Like I was copying editorial cartoons. I was copying electric. I did I did that too Yeah, sort of did that what I would do is because I couldn't think of my own jokes I would redraw print Pina cartoons with my own characters with with his jokes I don't know you know and I was like I was really funny I tell you Terry Mosher thing. Yeah, who's Aislin? Yeah So at one point I think you'd be fine with me saying this and And if he's not he won't listen to this podcast. Yeah, what are the odds? So I'm looking over at him because his his tables a little bit down a ways and he's packing up For the show like afterwards and and he's got this long Thing long flat green mat. Okay, I'm like, huh. What's that about you'll go under? I wonder what that's a yoga It was kind of yoga if okay. What do you think it was for? His golfing I made a joke about that Like it looked like you brought your own pudding green. Yeah, oh no, no, so here's what I do. Yeah

You put it under the desk. Yeah, when you're doing your signings. Yeah, when you break go down there take a nap Just take snaps under the table And I was like that's great And that's definite old person vibes So I was saying I was saying to him because you know, uh, he was saying yeah, you got to like you got to take naps You got to like we're actually gonna drink a lot of water Yeah, and I said to him. You know what? I'll be I'll be honest with you I haven't wanted to be condescending at all to you But I know you're like in your mid 80s and you're like sharp as a tack. Yeah, and like I'm open to advice Because this is the first time I've ever been 59. Yeah, you went. Okay. Here's what you gotta do Okay, I was like all right. Yeah, and he said like this is the one thing that I do like multiple times a day And I'm just gonna do it for you. It's a visual. It doesn't help. Yeah. Yeah anyone I can describe it for for boy It's like you're sitting down in your chair. Yeah. Yeah, you're standing up. Oh you're standing up. Don't move your arms. Don't move your arms. Okay, go back to your chair Stand up again. Okay, do that. Yeah 20 to 30 times do that every day. Yeah, I'm sure that's good for you

Do that he also asked me can you stand on one leg? Yeah, I can okay for how long pretty good because like there's when I started to have like You know things were like, well your heart maybe yeah I was like, okay, so anytime that you think like maybe you're having a stroke. Yeah, you think something because you're paranoid Um, these are not this is how my brain works, but you know when when something's happening You're just like, okay, what are this and and one of the things about having a stroke is one side gets weak Okay, so a good way to test that is stand on one leg and stand on the other leg See if you can maintain your balance. Mm-hmm. If you can probably not smile see both sides go up Talk see if you're making sense. So I said yeah, you know whenever I feel like a little Let's see how this is going. I will stand on the leg and what can can you like shake your eyes when when you're standing on one leg? Yeah, I can and it was all these things that I do. I like good. Keep doing that. Okay, practicing standing on one leg because balance is huge Yeah, that's true because that's how that's what happens is you fall you trip and that's how you injure yourself

But he said yeah, this core exercise of like when you have a little break sit on the chair stand up with your arms sit back down and keep doing that that's really important and And yeah, he's like in really nice shape super sharp. Yeah, still still doing it So it's just something that I do when I meet people who are older who are yeah, you know together It's like, what do you what do you do? How does this work? Yeah, I again every time I see surgery over going as I pestering with stuff like that too His thing is just like Well, that was again, that's one of my favorite things that he ever told us. Yeah Uh, was he went like make sure you do what you what you love because you know You might have the big house. I've got the house in the pool. Yeah. Am I swimming in the pool? No The wife's swimming in the pool the kids are swimming in the pool. Where am I? I'm at like table. I'm working

And I could be working in an apartment. I could be working there. I'm I but I love working. Yeah, so it's good Yeah, but if I didn't love working, I'm I didn't join the pool. I don't get to enjoy the pool. That's for other people So like, ah, that's a good one. Yeah, if you're if you're rich you Still are doing the same thing, you know, anyway, so you're working so you might as well. Do we love better or like this work in warehouse? Yeah, well, that's your work. I don't love it. That's not your work. No. Yeah, it's not my call Until yeah one day you do the hostile takeover And you open your own company and you bring everyone with you. Yeah, and then you crush them all Crush them all with your with your with your new company You know how to stack things we and you take all the good stackers and you take all the good people. Yeah We you call it Dave's house as stackers. We actually had like a new a new competitor move into the lor me and line. I hate them me too I think I think I think I take it personally and also they moved into older group

They're like right closer. I live I could like walk to work if I was like a chose to work with them But I won't because they're terrible Well, what's interesting about them is they moved into town and they bought a couple of different door companies that we used to buy from us So one of our biggest companies actually is they bought that company out. Okay, and so they are pretty much strictly Dores for them and are they a bigger company than your company? I don't think so. Okay. I don't think so. That's a good thing to look up I don't think they are but they're from Quebec Wait, I'm from Quebec and so Yeah, it's interesting like they're they're From what I first from other people who do in actual installing they don't like their product very much They they they so I think that this company's advantage Is that they go in and just buy yeah up market share Cookies and so you know, it's kind of interesting for us because our company doesn't seem to have like Doesn't seem to care about it like you know, I mean they're to kind of like all these other companies

And what's weird is one company was only half bought yet the they bought like half of the company that and the original owners Still owns half of the company. Oh, okay, or maybe it was partners and one partner still owns his part and then they bought About the other guy but that company that used to hardly ever come and pick up from us because I the owner apparently did not like steel craft doors very much for some reason Um now that they're A couple of them by this company that's our competitor. They come and buy doors from us more than ever. It's not a weird Yeah, it is but I'm not complaining because sales you know, I'm gonna complain keep me keep me in money Please and keep me busy. That's the sad part is when you feel like it's slowing down It is slowing down a bit because the economy is starting to tank because they come over to you and they say Dave Mm-hmm. We're gonna offer you double What happens? Oh for me double. Yeah, well first they wouldn't why that would be insane to pay a person who works in a warehouse double My might what I mean you're the heart of the warehouse You know what no one's no one is your place. Well, I am a big part of the company. Yeah But the thing about my job here's the other thing going to that company you're right

But even going to that company I wouldn't be bringing any of my knowledge of of steel craft to that company No, you bring your Dabissoms I bring my David's will like yeah, but I mean because things that I know like all all the skills that I've learned to this company Or only related to that company You know to me like I can't I can't bring like how to how to fill a truck yeah, too, too You can why not why because they don't do that there. Why are they okay? They're not they're not they don't sell in that way Ah, they don't they're not that big what do they want it? They're not that because that's here's the thing Apparently they've let down a lot of customers because they made big promises But they they can't keep up to the demand that they're creating for that they want to have right okay Because their doors come all the way from Quebec So that's a long it's a long it's a long time for for product to come there Whereas I was going from Edmonton is basically a two-day trip from from there to us So yeah, it's it's interesting though like we've never had this before like we there's lots of door We like there are other there are other companies. There's a couple other companies like maybe three other companies besides this one that that

Maybe four anyway three or four other companies that you know, I've always been there And we never really thought about them because it we don't take them seriously Okay, you know, or they're just not where are markets where where we are that me yes, why I've split my do not disturb on Anyway, no, it's head to stirb. Oh, I put just to stirb please just stirb me all you want uh and They get one the one company like they sell super expensive doors like 30,000 dollar doors like this yeah 30,000 dollar garage doors. Don't you want 37 garage doors? It feels like Okay, it feels like then when your a thief comes by yeah till like steal the car. Mm-hmm just take the door Right, I guess like you wouldn't break in and steal a bunch of bikes. You're like you know what this door Yeah, yeah, it's worth way more it's way more and then day two come by and get the bikes because there's no door It's funny though people don't I remember one time my truck got broken into and some stuff got pilfered out of it Right, but they left like my thousand dollar anvil in the back

They didn't even think about opening the back door and looking to see what it is. It's just don't want to carry on Well, you know, I mean that's part of it obviously They didn't know the value of all my my fairier tools that were in the back there. I had like You know hundred dollar petraca hammer and all kinds of other Who knows but no one knows right that no one knows that the same way no one knows the value of a garage door Because most of them aren't that expensive right like an anvil you think like well a coyote can afford that Okay, you have word in that so it can't be worth with that much you just drop some off clips That's true. You're right. You don't drop a thousand buck handle off a clip So where did that anvil end up still I still have it you still have a thousand dollar anvil Wow, what was last time you used it a long time ago It's hard to it's hard for me to like I don't know. I think it might be time to sell and it might be time to sell it And you're right. Yeah, right So hard so hard I what was that you're saying we're raffling it off on the show Does anyone a really big anvil is really nice. It's a because it has like Has an aluminum base. Yeah, and then the steel top. Yeah, the kind of a rubber gasket in between the two

So it's got lots of like working surface, but it's not not that heavy for its eyes. I mean look I'm of the belief that if the thing is a thing it should be used for the thing And instead otherwise it's just yeah hang around if it's a treasured memory and you walk by and go Yeah, but it's an anvil. It shouldn't anvil be a treasured memory. Should it? No, really I mean whenever is the treasured memory is the treasured memory, you know, I guess I should sell it You should sell it and then you should buy some snacks you should go to go to a couple of movies on that handle money Yeah, yeah, be nice get uh, you know Uh, if you have any daughters who've had birthdays recently you can get them something nice with their birthday anvil Yeah, oh you get them an apple. That's a true fact like you were talking about how I know I'll say who But one of your one of your daughters had a birthday. Yeah, and you're thinking like I'm gonna get her something nice And you're gonna go get her something after this. Yep. Oh, I'm an anvil. Just maybe just give her an anvil. Yeah, this would be good in the classroom And then just start playing the anvil chorus as it gives her

Yeah, imagine walking in because what what grade do they teach? Uh, well the one we're talking about. Yeah, we're not saying so great seven great seven So you're all right imagine your grade seven clothes and you walk it and it's your first day of school Yeah, and you walk in and your teachers there and you're like, no, it's my teacher. They seem nice And then you see they got an anvil and then they got a hammer whatever that hammer you were talking about Yeah, uh, and then they that's a small it's just for kneeling on the shoes You can use it on an anvil. Okay, well you get substantial hammer And then to start the class WAM onto the anvil oh boy. Yeah, that's uh, let's get in their attention right off the top You're the anvil teacher. Yeah, nice. Okay, and if a kid's not paying attention she can pick up the anvil and drop it on their desk Oh, it does have a lot of uses. You're right a lot of uses. I mean what why why yeah, I should pass it on it It really should be like a family heirloom that's passed on from Father to child or mother to child listen I know I know you're going through a stressful time right now, which is the thing where what what am I gonna do?

What makes you say that with my parents stuff? That's a tough time. That's right now What you do is you go heirloom and now everyone gets a treasured heirloom Listen, I've got so much fricking heirlooms in that other way. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah I mean everyone's living under the fantasy that this is gonna go to the new house. Yeah, it's heirloom over you Yeah, they're gonna be yeah, that's right. This is this is all going to the new house. This is all what new host? Hmm, uh, what what the one that's gonna happen in this fricking fictional future. Yeah, yeah All this stuff is gonna go there So that'd be great, but right now it's treasured heirlooms. Yeah heirlooms goddammit cost so much keep heirlooms. Yeah Um, oh, I have to tell you please too that my youngest daughter whose name is Eve uh, she's I've mentioned that she's getting married. Yeah, she's a afeaunced. She is now the announcer for the sneaky dragon listening part. That's right She is getting married next August

So that's they booked they booked the place And she's gonna give her an anvil Because if you give the one daughter an anvil you've got to give the other daughter a hand. I have to give the other daughter Oh, well, this is a real Solomon's problem now. Maybe I can what I'll do is I'll be like I have one arm anvil It really should belong to one of you. So I'm thinking I'll cut it in half and give each of you a hand Whichever one of them says no, please give it to the other one. Yeah, yeah, then you know The one that deserves it exactly even though they really want you to give it to the other one Yep exactly Yeah, so I'm not I'm pretty pleased with that. What's going on there? That's great That was who was that was who was messaging me just a minute ago was my youngest daughter saying don't talk about me on the air That's why that's why I that's probably why she's calling that's why it went it went through anyway because they're on my Yeah, anytime you call I will answer this yeah, I'll answer questions about weddings. That's it. Yeah. Yeah, yeah sure

I was she's already been complaining about trying to find a Place for the my meals that they don't do the dinner thing. Oh, okay I guess you found a place that was pretty cheap. Yeah pretty cheap But it turned out so they're a base in Surrey and my daughter's it's it's gonna be in you know, call this lake Okay, it's this place is past calls this lake Okay, they're gonna have the wedding in the lake. It's gonna come be a valley and so So she talked to these people. Yeah, they're like, you know, they're like so you have like whatever 30 dollars a plate Which is a great price. Yeah, that's a good price. Whereas the weddings and she told her and they said oh well We have a $10,000 surcharge to come up there. That's great. She said okay Goodbye I Yeah, you call it that which we should see I can hang up for free. Yeah, no, it's so So I don't know I don't envy her. What's going on right now? Where did you get the food for your wedding? Well, listen, I had the kind of called cheapest thriftiest wedding on record. It was a beautiful wedding

It was a very beautiful wedding, but the food was Not pot luck, but it was made by friends Made by pot heads That's true. No, I don't think so. I don't think they're what was it teacher. I don't think he was a Pot head. Oh, you never had a pot head teacher. Maybe what he was a gym maybe he was a gym teacher Would that make him a pot head teacher to think no, I don't think Jim teacher. No, I don't think so anyway So I'll say teacher. Yes. Yeah. Oh, okay, math teacher for sure At least 50% of those of those guys I never got that vibe. I'm saying guys. Okay, it was guys with all those guys I think so I think it's okay Yeah, so we had friends they made the food for the for the meal. Oh nice. It was nice to them. I'll say like yeah We were it was I think we've talked about how thriftier wedding was before but Lisa's dress down. It was really nice Lisa's dress came from value village the old value village. You pay $28 for it. Right. I had a suit that I bought a value village a couple years before But still you know it fit me really great. It was like it was like it was tailored suit

It was a what's that called when it's made for you? Custom no, no, there's a word for it. Okay, then actual anyway, Dave style Dave style. It was Fit me like I had been tailored for me. I just think made to measure is usually it is yeah No, there's a name for like a suit like when you get a measure fitted suit Yeah, okay anyway, it doesn't matter Uh, and yeah, it is fit me like it was made for me like I was tailored for me Yeah, and we have that suit right here. Let's try it on now. Oh, yes No, I've grown a little bit and nothing I've gotten it's nothing. I've gotten heavier. I got heavier but I've got more muscle Oh, then I had then so my shoulder problem is I'm My shoulders are too broad now. I'm sure sure. Yeah, I think I'm too handsome for it now. I'm that's my problem I'm wearing pants right now. They're they're 10 years old. Okay. I could wear clothes from when I was a teenager I'm same. I'm the same uh, yeah, you have to have some for your pants, but you two hands the same waist size. Oh, probably um Obviously, I carry more weight than I carried when I was a kid though So I want to take care more of a teenager. I think I had it was 175 when I was a there you go teenager

That's pretty skinny. I don't weigh 175 anymore But even yeah, I just couldn't I couldn't fit into that suit. It was a Gatsby came from So we could only afford the good Gatsby. Yeah, yeah, yeah That's the great. It was not great But it implied class, I guess to call it Gatsby and it was from like some place in like Midwest like I think Demoans. That's what that's what sticks in my head or at corner. So I'm like weird place like that right Why is this an evaluation in in Langley? But I found it there. I was looking for a suit. Yeah, and I found this suit and I tried it on I was just like, oh, it's perfect. Absolutely perfect. So that was my wedding. Oh, that's great Our rings we found in a box of jewelry in a parent's house Um, and we of course had the we had their wedding at their at the farm. Yeah, so we didn't have to pay for the venue Yeah, horse was the minister. We we paid for a tent for us to sit under right Because it was a beautiful day. Yeah, it was beautiful. We didn't even need it But we had been raining throughout the month and that was a good was a funny year because I remember

April so it may Yeah, in May we did this hanging and it was like a week of rain Then we suddenly had this clear period and we got all the hay in and then soon as the hay was like So we're basically closing the barn door and the rain started as like wow perfection And but yeah, that was it was a beautiful beautiful wedding and everything Yeah, it all worked out well. I think so too. We're still together this many years later. I'm gonna tell you Absolutely together something about the auto thing I ran into a couple of old friends Okay, and they almost all started with so many of them divorced now and I was like and and there's that little pause yeah, and my thing on that is is always like I'm letting them say the next thing Okay, because you don't want to be the person who's like oh Yeah, because that's not the thing or congratulations Because I haven't yeah, that's right. You very rarely meet someone who's Divorce that you're like oh you should have stuck it out. Yeah Oh, you know, that would have been that would have worked out better for you if you just uh, you know what it gets better after 40 years

Yeah, yeah, let me tell you buddy You should give her a call right now. Do you got her phone number still? By the fact I do yeah, no, so instead yeah You give the pause they'll say something to fill in that pause if they do not fill in that pause Then you go like how you do now? That's it. Oh now just update me on you right now. I understand that's the past yeah, and now what's now for you And usually there's something one of them wasn't as great But one of most of them are usually something there. I could tell one person was going through a hard time Okay, and so I was like oh yeah It's okay and and try to make it clear that like it's cool to tell me about your hard time And so then it's like all right, so now we'll throw a couple of hard time stories I already am with this and we'll do with this yeah, there's a lot of the hard times and that's fine You don't have to like show up like it's a high school reunion and go things are great I'm the head of the company now I lost all this weight and things are fantastic. It's like no, no But it really felt like oh, this is this is divorce

A clock on the old calendar here for a lot of people I know Holy smackaroni one guy was saying how you know, you kind of yeah, we reached a real end point in our marriage So I'm thinking like oh, okay, so this guy got a divorce and but then like he made a big life change and they're moving to another part of the world Okay, and and things have gotten better because of that and like oh, that's nice. Yeah, that's nice But you know definitely when he said that I wasn't like oh Because you can't say nothing when it's no attack kind of thing. Yeah, were they all guys that visited you? Yep dudes Lots of dudes from around college. Yeah, yeah, okay, but then I also met a couple of people that yeah, we're yeah We're telling me stories of their life and there was yeah, they were of that age as well Like sure interesting. Yeah, and I kept turning to PN going we're still good, right? And she's like yeah, I think so like yeah me too I think all right Because it seems like guys my age are like kind of worth. Yeah, I

Were good though. Yeah, we're good. Okay. I'll stop asking please do please stop asking I heard that somewhere there was someone's maybe that when I was listening to that thing about talking about people The fact of like people having the financial only when presenting their financial No, no because they said that divorces people in their 60s has become more common. Yeah, I thought that's a weird That's a weird time. I think it's I think it's a time where people realize Oh, I'm gonna be living maybe 30 more years. Yeah, I want to make this Account count. Yeah. Yeah, it's not like You know, yeah, and also I don't yeah that traditional retirement thing I'm like and probably also thinking like I'm 60 or I'm whatever is in my 60s I really don't have like if I want to have someone else in my life. I can't do this in my 70s Yeah, it is in my last my last hurrah before unless Tony Randall. Yeah, tell me around. Oh, yeah, well, I mean Yeah, I mean if you're wealthy, of course you can do whatever you want that's a trick. Yeah, exactly wealthy kind of some move By the way, if you're wealthy, you can do a lot of stuff. I don't know if you know that yeah, yeah cool on island

You could go on island you can own island you can have your friends come to the island you got friends Yeah, you can buy friends your friends that come there. You have a bit charity that they come to and Yep, you can buy like a lot of thousand dollar anvils You can give them all one is they're going home They're like we came in robots like yeah, you could all just take a take an amp we put an amp on each of your boats Please take a moment Someone some might think you don't like your friends. No, I got a macosco. I got a macosco. I'm sorry I think they'd be good you have the party favors You know everyone loves the amp was a party favor Sure Have you any interest in hearing what people had to say to us sure sure right? Let's move on with our lives. Please do I was gonna read a couple of recipes out of this craft television recipes thing But the lighting is as my eyes are too old. Okay. Uh, we'll see how they are after I do this

So we missed a couple of weeks of letters because I was away. Yeah, blah blah blah. I was away But let's try and update the cat was away, but the cat came back. That's right. Very next day We asked what's your favorite dolly parton thing? Hey, guess what week we asked that question and What is your family surprise? Oh, we're talking. Yeah family surprises like you know that is really So on so forth and we read Lisa's letter. Yeah, but you know who he didn't read a couple of the letters one from Peter airs Who says hello from London where the humidity is making it somehow hot and cold at the same time? Interesting and congratulations david Lisa on the prospective Extension to your family unit. Oh, thank you It was lovely to hear the warmth in your voice as you shared the news with us all Thanks also for your candor and sharing the less jolly family tales If you like that did you enjoy this episode? Mm-hmm. There we go. That's the thing on family surprises

I recently found out that my dad has unfortunately been possessed by a demon I'm not joking either This comes in the high authority of the evangelical Christian cousin who shared her concerns after a lunch with my folks apparently every time my cousin mentioned god to my dad He pulled a funny face Hopefully I won't eat an extra cyst anytime soon much love to all Peter. Don't you mean ex-horses? Wow, I could use that joke three times wow That was a real Halifax explosion in that it's a blast from the past Too soon Louise writes yes Hello from Vancouver where the weather can't make up its mind I tarp our tomatoes when it rains so they don't split yeah She means leave Dave we she gave P&E Some tomatoes last night on some beans As well as a very delightful

Cheesecake treat that was like blood on the snow took for our frostbite Oh nice But so we so that's a second frostbite themed dessert or no the other one's a dish Yeah, it was savory that's right. It's a savory dish I know I thought that too and then no no no no no But so we came home and I made some hamburger helper because I was lazy because we had done a thing But I made a salad okay, and I was like oh this is great So I put the tomatoes on there yeah, and then got this emergency letter from Louise saying like oh make sure That you wash the tomatoes. Oh, okay. Well, first of all she said oh make sure you put the the cheesecake in the fridge I'm like yeah, she's cake all right, and I was like oh and Separate email yeah, yeah make sure you wash those tomatoes and beans because they got them right out of the garden as I was leaving Okay, oh no, so I wrote her back Well, sorry to say we ate them immediately and now we're dead We died at two in the morning And she revealed that she had eaten them just straight off the bushes as well. Yeah, I mean well anyway

So continue with their mother where they split but they were delicious with the they were not split okay Though it would be nice if the beans were split little split beans May I split pea soup? I was gonna say split beans more common more common but split beans They're split then you know that's gonna be good Anyway, continuing on with Louise's letter It's sad to think of all the tomatoes that must have split in the rainstorm that Toronto got hit with this week My favorite dolly part and thing is your Oscar nominated hit song 95 written for the movie of the same name. It's got a funky cousin vibe country vibe that totally fits her character from the movie A southern girl transplanted to the big city The movie was her acting debut and she did such a great job as the put-up on secretary Homer co-workers wrongly believed was having a fair with her sexist boss. Yes, what a death On our last show Uh about the TV show 9 to 5 did I go over that with I don't know I think I might have no I mean I omitted at a party that we were yes

How many years it was on which stunned me was like the TV show 9 to 5 which I consider like well The TV show didn't work out probably couple episodes five years on for five years 9 to 5 two separate casts Well, oh really changed the cast that's interesting went back Was Dabney Coleman ever part of like that? I don't know I don't know if Buffalo Bill the TV show but no he wasn't he was on that show He's busy on golden pond. You see I'm good. He's not an on-gold pond. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he is The boy friend of Jane Fonda good for him Why do you say that? Oh, he's watching the James Fonda then that bikini scene I don't even remember that you don't remember the bikini scene on golden pond. No, okay. Well, here's nothing about an on-gold pond. Yeah The the child yes in on golden pond. Yes was part of a acting Family dynasty who were what other two shows where their siblings on they had an older brother and an older sister Is it like a Christy McNichol? Was he a McNichol? Mick something okay. Oh, was it was it Brady Bunch? Nope the brother was on Alice

Okay, and the sister was on Facts of Life. Oh Okay, yeah played Joe okay, and on Alice played Tommy. I see and now that we've said all that nonsense Yeah, I'm gonna read the serious part of of Louise's life. Oh, okay. Louise's gonna say let's change our moods Okay shift gears bring it down bring it down bring it down bring it down That's our patch candy out of your mouth and a little respect. Thank you. Thank you. Okay, all right about Dave's dad still driving at the age of 90 I breathe a huge mental sigh of relief when my mother's cardiologist Advice to stop driving this year at the age of 89 due to a health due to health conditions. Yeah, I couldn't convince her myself I'm so glad that she never got into an accident these past few years older people's bodies get more seriously injured when they're in a crash. Yeah, so there's that and there's also usually a couple of stories a year on the news of older drivers having a medical incident or hitting the gas and so the break and crashing into storefronts Yeah, or a daycare or something

ICBC makes you get a doctor's physical exam every two years after you've turned 85 But that doesn't guarantee that you've got good driving habits when you're behind the wheel exactly very fair point and Yeah, I don't know I don't look forward to having that conversation with my father. Yep He's still taught you. He's asking, but it's car keys while he's in the hospital So I know that he's thinking when I get out I'm gonna go start driving. Yep, and I don't think so. Yeah, they banned automobiles dad No more automobiles are on the road. Mark Carney said no more. The other thing I had to do actually To tell say this is that I had to make that understand that he needed a DNR on file in the hospital Because that's because of his age. That's what they want like and so I and because his hearing aids weren't working I had to like type out this paragraph on my phone and then make him get him to read it And so he read it through and then he looks me goes so it's come to that I don't like right back dad. You have to make a decision. You can't say it's come to that I need to like what do you want to do for your DNR? He wouldn't give me an answer

So I just made I made it by my own mind so it's a DNR three. It's called which basically means that you know They'll cheat illness, but they won't do CPR Intubate or do critical care because in each case it's so it's so Damaging to the person undergoing those those procedures that a person his age would just come out of it Wouldn't necessarily live through it. Yeah, would would not want to wake up with broken ribs when you're 90 and unable to breathe That's not how great place to be so as my it was my thinking about it And I figured also that if he refused to get a bone marrow biopsy because he thought it would be too invasive How's he going to feel about having a tube shove down his throat and by the way? I just want to say one more thing my whole plan was when I said to my dad I think we should sell the house and he was gonna be like I don't want to sell the house and I was gonna say I had to all loaded I was gonna say dad I didn't want to start working when I was in grade four, but I did so it's time for you to think about moving out of the house There you go, but I didn't have to say because he he beat me to the punch and said maybe we should sell the house

I'm like, oh, okay, I'm on board now. We have a letter from Edward Drogansky Ed hot tidings from still double digit capital of the south and still no rain Everyone listened to Dolly Park and down here growing up her music is everywhere When I saw the news of her death, I'll admit I cried a little Oh, I watched a video post from her nephew. Well it worked. That is a nice one And wasn't even a half hour since they had announced Dolly had died I wasn't sad over her death instead. It was sad that such a kind and loving person like her wouldn't be around to set an example for us any longer Dolly was wildly authentic and on the apologetic about who she was I think that's what I loved most about her She left this earth with zero enemies or regrets And I think that was her most important message to us all her folksy demeanor since a humor will be missed Now there's two reasons to ugly cry while watching steel magnolies Have you ever had one of those friends who you immediately thought about when a celebrity died? I went to high school with a guy named Paul who was a serious Dolly Parton fan when we were together

I immediately thought of him. I keep up with him on Facebook and photos of his home Show wall-to-wall Dolly Parton member of the league. Wow Paul is a fantastic illustrator and I remember years back when he was commissioned to do To buy Dollywood to do some work for them I don't know if you ever got to meet Dolly in person or how his art was used. Yeah, still that's very cool Yeah, I'll be you got to meet her Yeah, about 20 years ago my dad decided to be the family member to take a deep dive into our family genealogy He and my uncle uncovered more than their fair share of family secrets unknown stories and surprises Some of the stuff we thought was true for years was deemed false But not without being replaced by some better truths we never knew about relatives born out of wedlock missing fathers and an overwhelming pattern of suicidal deaths were uncovered Wow most of it was around a century old So we labeled it as an unfortunate family history as far as I can remember I was told about a great great uncle and Antenuncle who had a monkey bird and dog act in vaudeville the act was called

Signorita Galetti and her troop of the world's greatest performing monkeys These monkeys could cut hair box ride bikes and one could even write his name mr. Jinx. No, he couldn't I'm sorry, but no he couldn't And I'm not really big on that hair cutting either, but I'm sorry. I will continue reading I had a step aside to go like mr. Jinx could write his name. He could write an ex maybe maybe yeah He'll write the ex. Yeah, I don't know how they pulled that one off What we're gonna play the hand. I'm gonna keep reading this letter. Maybe maybe it corrects itself Yeah, no more monkey business, but no mr. Jinx couldn't write his name They traveled the world to eight could you imagine yes That monkey would become president They traveled the world in the late 1800s and early into the 20th century my dad uncovered posters and photos From relative showing some unbelievable stuff those animals could do on stage. Yeah, I don't believe some of it As he acquired all these posters and photos. I helped him restore much of it from old damaged copies. He uncovered

The bird act shows cockatiels with firefighter hats on putting out a burning dollhouse And a dogs pulling and driving little cars around on sage carts around on sage with the monkeys This was on my dad's mother's side of the family. Okay, her maiden name was Galetti and if you google Galetti You will see plenty of this It's even in the library of congress shit my family tree. It's full of monkeys and believe it or not It's also on tumblr. Oh, so were we? I'd say my family didn't monkey around, but then I'd be lion Okay, that'd be funny if like there was a lion as well. Yeah, if you said lion if it was a lion. It was a lion. We couldn't bear it I'm not gonna ape what Dave had to say Have a great weekend tall my fellow sneakers enjoy it before you have to go back to work To the work week of nine to five Bump bump bump bump. There we go Monkey couldn't write mr. jinx. No, no, here's here's what I'm expecting was the case

Was there was something that he had in the the pen that he was holding yeah that when he rubbed it on the paper It revealed something like something change. I would say okay. That's a that's a magic trick. The monkey cannot write mr jinx An ex and could it write mr. Jay? I think I just got remembered jinx at best. It's not a fan of that James Bond film Oh the oh yeah, well this is how they bury as jinx as jinx yeah Okay, so we got a letter for episode seven seventies well, even though there was no question And the letter says greetings from chili Edmonton Alberta from Lisa. Oh, I enjoyed your p&e bashing segment Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha no questions of the week what to do what to do okay? Here's a question for Ian. Uh-oh What work trip con etc have you enjoyed the most and why okay? I'd say like My wife and I he is first trip to geehon in spain okay

Because it was our first time going to Europe For a con yeah and seeing what the European comic world was like was very very different very stylistically different And all these people just had amazing art skills in a very different way Uh I was there James Lloyd was there as well and that night we went on stage him and me and they had us draw pictures on stage while bagpipes played And then they took the pictures that we drew and they put them in the theater on the walls and hung them up And it was just this real respect for artists and comics yeah, that we don't have here It was such a very different con we ended up going to a university. I sure this was not the highland games Yeah, we made it wrong town. Yeah We went to yeah, we went with the tossing a pool No, no, no, we went to a we went to a university and gave a lecture It was just fascinating and just like all these people who were just trying to get into comics like and here's my work

You look at the work and like well that's genius You're all brilliant. You're all crazy brilliant. You're all geniuses and And also it was the first time being in a place where they had a Ciesta And so like you know for two hours in the afternoon everyone would just take a break Yeah, and just relax and then that meant that because everyone took that break They were all up till like midnight. So you walk through the park at midnight. No, these old ladies were there Sorry, say old ladies, but older ladies were there everything still hopped and happened older senoras And when we were having meals they were like three hour situations where you know everyone was just talking and laughing and doing stuff and was like yeah So this is just because we're here right no, no, this is normal. What sounds unbearable It does it is a little hard for someone from North America to do can we just eat and go? But it came from Having lived under fascism and now they had freedom and because they appreciated this freedom so much Uh, they they they realized like it's important to celebrate life That's great And so they did and also celebrate art

So that was a big life changing thing for me just seeing how Very very different things were yeah, or could be yeah And that like opened my mind up so that you know for future trips cool That's what I pointed out that half of the P&E bashing was leases because I read it with her comment From the face. That's why she enjoyed it. That's why she liked it so much. Yeah more read more letters by me. She said read more of my comments. Yeah So okay, here we go So And blah blah blah blah blah blah blah do we have more of those? Yes We had we asked the question what TV show has done the best redo or relaunch? And are you close to your siblings those are there's a question the good questions those are good questions Back to Edward Jorgansky Ed greetings from the land where the summer never dies If things go according to the weather reports I should be experiencing cooler weather when you read I hear you read this Protections the bus This bus this bus more exciting than a solar eclipse This bus this is more exciting than this so this is more exciting than the solar solar eclipse

I assume is being said there okay. Sorry. I was having a stroke mid Thing let me just stand on one light sci-fi seems to be the main culprit For redone series and reboots doesn't it? I know it's highly recommended and far better than the schlocky 70s version But I still need to watch Battlestar Galactica from 2004 to 2009 someday The thing for me about that was because it was shot here A lot of people from my agency. I have a writing agent But it's also an acting agency when we had our Christmas parties We'd see a lot of the Battlestar Galactica folks there and yeah and again friends would be on the show and it was it was very very good You're gonna hear that from a lot of people. We're probably gonna hear it from somebody right after your letter Like I said sci-fi is always getting an upgrade lost in space quantum leap west world and doctor who none of which I've seen Well as I've said before doctor who really went

Downhill once they stopped shooting in Vancouver. So they say that's what they say. I guess I'm too busy with Star Trek Which I guess was kind of a be be booted or rebooted as Star Trek strange to worlds It looks like it might warp sorry into the crew of the Enterprise. We got to know so well I'm really enjoying that show right now. Let's just say that. I even was okay with the puppet one But like they've just been doing some real good stuff on that show I'm sorry. It's going off here. I mean Kirk seems to be dropping by all the time because he has the hots for LAN Let's eventually he'll just stay spock or hurrah and Scotty are already there and embinga Looks like he's screwed himself by taking the blame for Kirk drugging a badmoral last week. Oh, hey Boy, I'm glad I didn't read this before I just watched that Sorry spoilers. Uh-huh Watch it last night lucky Recording tonight's episode looking forward to that leaves McCoy who will replace em benga as CMO

Then Sulu and check off a role in later. I'm loving all this even the Enterprise crew Muppets. Oh, you like them up. It's part two good. All right. That's me too. All right I'm extremely close to my brother Chris. He's the only sibling I have We're both each other's best man at our weddings all and I see him regularly I'm sure I've mentioned it before my brother has been losing his eyesight over the past 10 years or so So I try to make a point of visiting him as often as I can is about 45 minutes for me So I'll go out pick him up taking around some places since he can't drive or get around Chris is seven years younger than me So I used to watch him while he was growing up. I kind of helped raise him during our summer breaks when I was old enough to watch him I think a lot of me rubbed off on him now I wait for mild weather with all the dopey Texans hope it's cooler where my fellow sneakers are happy fall. Yeah, we're having kind of a cool day today It was nice, but it was nice. It was pretty nice, but Peter airs respond. Oh, Peter saying oh You're in for a treat with a revamp balacr galactica. It loses its way somewhere or tries to resolve itself

But it's fascinating playful provocative product of its time indeed it is But it's no galactica 80 did you see that you remember galactica 80 they went to earth holy moly what a time I think it's on YouTube good luck to anyone watching that I know when I was like oh, I'm so happy to get there earth. Oh, I wish they hadn't gone earth Lisa Williamson writes remember her Yes, where's mysteries lady? Oh, she is the horse mysteries lady. Did she have an anore? Did she have an anvil? She She also has an anvil. Yes, it's more of an anchor me greetings from Sunday Aldergrove Yeah, what another place where summer never seems to die I'm thinking we're up for the driest September of the year award this year It looks like two weeks of sunny weather still on the books regarding question number one I would say Star Trek my preference is next generation, but I know there are a few others Question number two. Well, yes, I am close to my brother less than a mile away In fact, which is pretty close if you're talking about emotionally close. However

This would also be a yes Nice. I like this pause here. Let's get Matthew sandborn Smith. Matthew. Hello. Hello from rainy south Florida Just popping into say I received my copy of frostbite the other day and just read it It's great everybody buy three. I'm not being paid to say this Edward your gancy replies. I think you guys owe Matthew a sticker Fair enough happy to send Matthew a sticker and yeah if you get a chance to read frostbite We are pretty proud of it, but did the book launch we did that if you're in white rock in two weeks and why wouldn't you be We'll be at a book thing there and if you're at the Vancouver writers festival in October will also be doing a presentation there on Making a graphic novel and the nice thing is we're going to be in a place called the nest Which is where we did swordplay. Oh wow. So nice memories of that space. So we're going to be doing our our presentation there I still think about swordplay. I do too

No, no, no, no, no, no, that's a lot of fun. I'm probably going to go see a fringe show there. Oh cool. Yeah cool And that ends and if the letters all right, so far so do you have any questions for the nice people for next? I'm sorry. I have some emails to read. It's the unclaimed assets register official All right, let's do after that we had a letter from Laurel Laurel wrote and Laurel wrote to say she says hello David Anyan and sneaky beats Hope you're all well. I am writing from the very hot Futils of the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina where the high temp today was 94 degrees Fahrenheit That's 34 degrees Celsius Ian And not a cloud in the sky. I know this does not hold a candle to ed these delus temps But still pretty darn toasty. Yes, it is too much for me Ian you asked what our favorite dolly part and thing has been I did ask that my favorite besides your beautiful music Is there autobiography called my life and other unfinished business? Oh Title now. I read that back in the 90s when it came out and it really it is really a good telling every backstory etc I'm yeah, I really curious about the early years of her over musical career. That's what I'm most curious about

I played when we when that's episode I played a song by her from that time period where she wasn't writing her own She was writing some songs, but at this point she was you know doing other people's music and still good songs But not the personal kind of stuff super. I said before that memoir is a favorite type of writing of mine Which is likely why I like it best when you two are telling stories about your lives past and present This episode I was just I this episode I was just um, I don't know what she's got a word in here that I'm not sure What do I mean? So I got to interpret at a bit of boring. No, not boring Not boring. Thank you, though. That's a good. That's a good guess. Okay Monotonous also is not right right in space She said this episode I was just feeling The heavy load you have in your shoulders David as you figure out what to do about your father in the situation Even more confusing now, isn't it? Thank you for feeling comfortable enough to share it Those questions you are facing are so difficult. That is true My heart goes out to you. I do know you will find the right way to go a big family surprise happened for us in 2006

When we learned that her daughter was pregnant at just 18 She was a ways along five months, I think and her son was born a month following her 19th birthday It was certainly not what we had hoped for her However, she and the baby's father married a few years a few months later and after 10 years had a baby daughter The first grandson is now 19 and has been one of the great loves of our lives Of course, he actually now lives with us as he finds his own path his parents are not together anymore But both are settled into good relationships and grandson is close with both Okay, I stopped to write this out. Well, I was making dinner for said grandson and my husband I panicked when I realized I was going to miss another week And you might not have a thing to read again, David I dropped everything not literally and dashed the laptop to to dash off this note and now the meals on fire This right so there it is I can breathe easy again and get some food together for these guys and me Love to all I'm thinking good energy thoughts praying for both of you as you deal with the trying trying situations So much Laurel and she says ps

Ironically our electricity went out just as I pressed send and I got the notice that this could not be sent Thankfully, it was only out for 45 minutes and this will maybe get to you in time I hope you have a wood stove if you're cooking dinner on Laurel And then we have one last email. This is from Philip Philip writes to say Well, his his subject is love the podcast and dot dot dot. There's in the lips follows it so oh And loves the little dot series of comments. Yes There's little dot and little dot and dot land those two but ones I can think of but I'm sure there was oh you know what I think there was a little dot and a little odd as well So those are three little dot series. I think I'm more honest. I love the band e-lips incorporated in their great song Take me to dot dot dot Um, I'm not really a podcast listening kind of fellow Well the hell with you so let's wrap it up for this episode But I came upon This morning there's more of geez boy I thought my foot my mouth

That's good He's doing a hoop right now human hoop But I came upon sneaky dragon about five six years ago After listening to your full marks podcasts series and I have been Adedicated and loyal listener ever since I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy the show And even though I don't like when people tell me you have to check out this podcast I'm listening to like I said I'm not a big podcast guy and I found most podcasts to be either unfunny uninteresting and or self-indulgent at least we're not any of those things Anyway, let's get back to listening our favorite popsicles. That's right That's your popsicle quiz rocket condive Nemal the possible flavors He says even though he's not a podcast guy. He says I always recommend sneaky dragon to anyone who listen That's all keep up the good work fill up. Thank you so much fill up

Gord who came to The iron dog. Yes, yes, let's say he came to our show through Costics soda. Oh, what that old time. That is that's a long time you've listened to this show then But that was a big boost for us doing costics. Oh, when you went on that show. Yeah, and you're really good on it Oh, thanks. We got a lot of listeners. I know Mary Mary came to us from that. So yeah, a lot of people Um, that's where that's where you got your daughter from that. That's right. That's right. It was spontaneous They're talking about Spontaneous pregnancies And this was something to fucking say I haven't pregnant It's right there. It's not about and now she's getting married. That was me celebrating. I was like hurrying into the champagne Oh, okay, good. I'm glad that was champagne Shampagnia I said I made a popping sound this time you did That's impressive that you can pop twice at your age I'll drink a lot of fluids um, so what do we want to ask questions about next week? We guess we should ask some questions. Shouldn't we yeah? I'm gonna ask this one. It's a bit of a weird one

But aside from if you've had one of your own you can't list your own Uh, but what is the your favorite wedding you've ever been to and why what made for a good wedding? Okay. That's great I enjoyed David's wedding I know he's like talking about it like you know, we we found this in this Yeah, but it was like I was just really relaxing and fun. It's very nice. And a lot of love. Yeah Everyone can everyone helped out it was great. Yep um My question is uh Who was your childhood influence? There you go. Nice. There you go. So here's what you're gonna do You're gonna go to sneakydead sneaky dragon.com. That is our email and you're gonna give us a letter And then Dave's gonna read that one if you want to hear me read something. Oh what you're gonna do is you're gonna go to sneaky dragon.com online and After every one of our episodes, which every one of our episodes is there not just of this but all of those other episodes from our podcast network that Dave mentioned earlier Um, after each one of those is a little message board space and we would love to hear from you there And we will respond and I will read things and data. So don't make any long words

Because by this point in the show, I'm just all You know what I mean? Uh, but we appreciate you hear from from you You also have a couple other options. So no one ever uses them, but you know what the heck We are still on Facebook. You could go there. You could go in Tumblr You could go on blue sky You could do those things and we will read things on there You know if anyone goes on those Dave can read those But you're not going to in fact they dare you to I dare you you cowards Do you think oh you don't have the guts you don't have the cuts You don't have the guts to go on to Facebook and like post something on there. Uh, yeah, right. I wish I wish I'd love to see you try that have the to dare to go into Tumblr. No one would dare that Ha come on. You're not gonna do that Anyway, so we're gonna see you. Let's call reverse psychology. It is absolutely But we want to hear you no matter how it goes. I maybe reverse psychology would be no We don't want you to go to Tumblr and leave comments there That's the last thing we want to see comments on Facebook. That's right. I'm nagging you. It's what I'm doing

And that's going to be the basis of our relationship and I apologize for that I love but uh We also enjoy seeing you in person when you come to our events and and whatnot. So yeah If you do come to me sound that didn't show last night so I can get some compliments right He's banned from bookstores I know what I did there. I know what it did that dog. Yeah He he has enough books and the booksters have been told don't let this gentleman in his money's no good. Pilecer. Yes Barely allowed in the library anymore But we would love to hear from you or see you in person or whatever we like you I got to say this. This is one thing when I meet people who listen to the show A bunch of likable folks. Yeah, and I'm gonna say this when I was in Ottawa I was next to I'm not talking about people I've talked about already. Yeah, but there's other people who have some degree of fame who have uh books that are very popular. Sure and I see the people who are talking to them about their books They have a little aggressive little uh a little judgmental A little like hey, uh why was there anymore of this? I didn't like the TV show of

And a lot of that and it's like But then what came up to us Nice. That's good. It was very very sweet. That's nice. Yeah had a lot of uh love for sparks and a lot of Kids coming by and gasping when they saw a little sparks display that was there. Oh, yeah, it was very very nice Wonderful. It was like you do Like yeah, I hope you leave a bookmark I gave them bookmarks and normally they didn't know that there was either a second or a third book series Quite often they would have had the third book, but they didn't know about the second book Oh wow because that one did come out during COVID when everything was like Yeah So they were delighted to find out there was another book and they wanted more and like we're gonna try And I told them we're working on a live show and like we're gonna try We're doing our best and we sold out of the the sparks books and we sold out of the frostbite books So that was also very very nice That's great. Yeah, good should I give you a good time? If you want to see me and you're in Winnipeg, I will be there around Halloween with P as well
