Jonathan Hardy the book is arrow striker and Thanks for being here. Appreciate it. Yeah, thanks Nick man. I'm excited to be with you today I've been looking forward to getting on with you here. This is gonna be great Well, and I first learned of the book Through your dad and and you know, I know him and I know that you know took us not too terribly long But a little bit to get you on in studio and so I've been looking forward to it for some time and If you would get just before we get into the book itself your background And I know roots lot here in Springfield elsewhere as well Yeah, I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa my first first 18 years were all there Growing up in the same school school district Then my folks actually moved to Springfield in 2000 and I was in college at the time and ended up coming here To make this my new home and then ended up finishing up college here in town and have been here ever since
So what did you do here? I know a lot of ministry stuff. Yeah, yeah, so I started off as an associate pastor Here in town. I was went to Central Bobber College, which is now part of the Vangel University and so I was there and then went on and got my master's degree here at the somebody's got theological seminary So then I ended up Jumping on and and being a pastor here in town And actually a part I skipped a moment ago is we did actually go church plant in Kansas City, Missouri for eight years And that was a great experience in a great journey We went up with a bunch of friends and I'll start of this church together up there and after eight years We just felt like it was time to come back home. This was really home for us at this point And we've got three kids and so we thought well, where do we want to raise the kids and We just felt like coming back to Springfield's probably the place to be and so we've been back here for five years and just loving life families thriving and so we are
We are doing great in that way. I'm working with my dad We actually started a business together that provides resources for churches and so we work with churches around the country and that entities called leaders.church and that's our website and and our business and so we just provide resources We just kind of like to come alongside the local church and help pastors. So that's our heart So I imagine some of you used to talk about starting a business together some of it is dependent on the purpose of the business But you hear the cliche often times like never get into business with family but some of The greatest businesses that have ever existed or causes have been family. Yeah. Yeah I must go either one way or another there's no middle ground either. It's this horrific nightmare or It becomes wildly successful. Yeah, I think it's dependent on the personalities and that relationship Obviously plays a huge part in it fortunately my father and I have an excellent relationship always have And I think it takes humility to to be willing to you know not always have to get your way on certain things
And I think that's where things can go wrong for people sometimes is They think oh well, it's got to be my way and and they just butt heads and they say you know what forget it Where it's not gonna work so it is certainly can work But you also have to be willing to make it work We've got our author of the week Jonathan Hardy with us the book arrow striker tell us about the book Yeah, so arrow striker was birthed on my heart probably 25 years ago to go honest with you It's based upon second Kings chapter 13 in the Bible in the Old Testament in the story um Is about a lysha the prophet and he is telling the king of Israel to strike his arrows like literally the arrows with his bow and arrow and And he strikes three times strikes strikes the ground three times and then he stops and a lysha Basically says hey, why didn't you keep going you could have completely wiped out the other nation Uh, but instead you're only gonna get three battle victories and so what it ended up happening is those arrow strikes were Representative of the victory over the different battles that God was gonna give to the nation of Israel and so he could have gone all out
But he didn't and he stopped short of what god wanted to do in that moment So the book is all based upon not stopping short of what god wants to do in our lives And so I label us as people as arrow strikers That we have opportunities to figuratively strike our arrows every single day and to make a difference Ultimately in people's lives and and for the kingdom of god And to not stop short of what god wants to do and so what I did it was identified seven particular Ways in which sometimes we stop short of what god wants to do so things like busyness Uh could prevent us from fully realizing the potential and opportunities that we have or Or fear That's a big one for people, you know And so the whole idea is to basically help inspire people to overcome those obstacles that can get in the way of what god wants to do So that they can live their life with purpose and ultimately me ultimately make the biggest impact possible A lot of us grew up during an era in which we
We would learn these life lessons in kindergarten and for a while it became real popular You would see these posters everything I needed to know in life. I learned in kindergarten And had these little basic rules are like I do remember hearing that in kindergarten and that can apply To my life as an adult in order to have successful life But I you could go way back beyond that and in reality Everything that you need to know in life you could say I learned in the Bible and I will I've always thought not just even from the standpoint of The the spiritual component But I've all I've often times looked at biblical teachings as sort of life hacks Like you do these things and listen I'm trying to help you out here like yeah life on earth is overall going to be better If you know and here's some lessons like follow this stuff Oh man, that is so true, you know, I mean whether it's the promises of god That we sometimes need to lean on especially you know everyone has a hard time people people all go through difficulties at different points in life
I mean that no one is immune to that that's going to happen But I think what the the Bible is just so great At is just giving us that That encouragement and that Support to know hey, it is gonna be okay and here are here are millions of stories in the past where god came through and helped people Um, and so that's just something that comes to mind as you're as you're saying that but the reality is I mean it is a guidebook for life. It's it's the rule book for life It's if you if you really follow The teachings throughout scripture and the teachings of Jesus Your life will be great and it will end great When you go to heaven and are with Lord forever. I think also collectively And we know the teachings about nations and the recognition of god and following God's word and the blessings there And I think it's well, yeah because if you have collectively people
That are following again. I used and I don't I'm not trying to diminish At all because I understand the importance of these lessons But would you use the term life hacks today? Oh, and if you collectively have an entire culture of people using the things are going to collectively work out very well Yeah, yeah, they will and and and you see that in people's lives and then what you see on the opposite end is when people don't Follow those life hacks as you say How life does not go smooth for them and so I mean The proof is kind of in the pudding, you know, you just you just you can see it in people's lives and when god's hand is on certain people It's because they're literally following scripture and when people are not doing that you can just tell life is messy and it's doesn't mean that even God they people aren't going to have troubles. I'm not saying that you know, I mean Jesus said in this world you will have trouble You know, but Through Christ we have overcome the world and we can we can overcome the situations that we face
We're talking with our author the week Jonathan Hardy the book arrow striker just kind of take a quick break in another segment If we can have you for that as we continue on pyramid roofing company text line 447 ksg f i'm necry author the week sponsored by abc books on north clenstone in studio Jonathan Hardy the book is arrow striker We were talking off air one of the chapters the focus is what you call walking with significance. Yes, that's right. Yeah, you know the reality is people I mean every single day we have opportunities to make a difference with our lives and it doesn't have to be some huge massive thing It could be just like um, you know buying a drink for somebody and just telling them that god loves them or Or just meeting a need that people have When someone's moving. It's like okay. Well, maybe I just need to go help them move So there's little subtle things like that that aren't even quote-unquote spiritual ways that we can make an impact in people's lives But the reality is whether the listeners today are Christian or not Christian doesn't that doesn't matter
The idea is we can make a difference in other people's lives and what I think That a lot of times can happen As we really relates to this chapter you just mentioned is that we We can walk It in significance and yet oftentimes we don't feel significant and I've just seen this in Countless people's lives. I've seen it in my own life where I have an insecurity That then prevents me from stepping into something that I could do to help someone else because of my own insecurity And I would encourage people who may have that to get curious about okay, well, why is that But then to know that you do have significance I mean ultimately humans are created in the image of God and we can make a powerful impact on other people's lives No matter how big or small it may seem to you in the moment Just making a difference with your life through even practical Practical acts of kindness can be very valuable For other people
But it all starts when we recognize that we do have something to offer Years ago I was friends with a Fellow he was a firefighter it wasn't around here and He and his wife had moved in his father-in-law because of some health issues and I think his the mother-in-law had passed some time ago And they were really they were concerned about him because he was following it falling into a depression and yeah He was retired and and he just sat around doing nothing and they could see even physically That he was falling ill because of this darkness over him and he was telling me when his last name was kittleson I forget it john kittleson. I forget the first name but And he was still with fire department at the time and there was a series of I don't know if it was trainings or something that he was part of but want to say maybe in another town And he had to get up earlier than normal and so the first day he got up He had told me that his father-in-law happened to get up as well and
made some coffee and he said that he you know He made it not just for himself, but for this firefighter friend of mine as well and He was like oh things and so The next couple of weeks when he would get up his father-in-law would get up as and he said it was a night and day difference That he was his old self again and he and it took him a while to realize what was going on that he went from feeling He had no purpose or significance. I think would be you know the same Term to use there and he and as something that didn't even register to them as significant making coffee It was for his father-in-law and it completely just turned around his His attitude and and began to pull him out of of this depression and and sense of lacking any sort of significance and when you mentioned no matter How large or how small it reminded me of that story Yeah, you know, I mean even like today at work for for those of you listening
You know you may have something small and it's just an active kindness. It could be as simple as Getting coffees for somebody You know or it could be a conversation or just giving an encouraging word There's all kinds of things that we can do and it's all those little things that add up to big things over time And sometimes it's easy to skip the little things because we think oh it's little But all of those little things actually can be very significant in the long run And so I you know I always encourage people hey make make the most of every opportunity bigger small Because the days are short and we don't know How long will have that job or with those family members or whatever and you know we want to maximize our opportunities I've learned that when you do things that are helpful to other people It is it's really truly rewarding in like the door swings both ways So it isn't only rewarding for you the person doing it but oftentimes on the person receiving it
and To make your point but on the other side of it talking about insignificant things I still to this day remember I was in high school and My buddies and I came up to then it was SMS you because they gave you In your junior senior in high school You got so many excuse absences if you were gonna go visit a college campus And we I think we already knew that we were going to be going here, but we wanted to come up and Just you know have a day where we walked around the campus and and we went to a McDonald's I want to say it was the one on Glenn Stone again. This was in 1994 95 And I've never been a big breakfast eater. I just never have and it was during breakfast My two friends they ordered something and I didn't just because I didn't want anything and there was this Retired age gentleman that came over and offered to buy me breakfast because he thought I couldn't he thought Maybe I wasn't buying him because I couldn't afford him. I remember that to this day. Wow
And it was something that I'm short. Well, I know he's dead now because of his age then he's probably 120 years old today But I imagine that he what that was his His baseline and he was probably In that sort of engagement so often he wouldn't have ever remembered me, but here So long later that little gesture was something that I remember to this day That's that is amazing, you know little things like that and and that's why you don't know like that guy I wouldn't have known But the impact it is made on you and you know, I would assume you want to be able to reciprocate that for other people as well You want other people to experience that same Benefit and active kindness that you received So Sarah next time you hit someone's car and drive off without leaving a note. Maybe you should think about these things She has no idea what we're talking about Any final thoughts? Yeah, you know, I just want to encourage people to make the most of every opportunity you have and look for the
Opportunities and then step into them because you don't know just like your example You don't know what kind of impact you can have But the reality is that you are significant and there is a bigger impact than you probably realize and That as you do so you're going to be refreshed and encouraged and you're going to be helping other people fully realize all that God has for them as well and And you have a site. It's arrow striker.com and it's got a lot of the information including access to to your book and of course ABC books, you know people can always it they actually last time was in there I don't know if it's changed that a nice little area and it was all author of the week books Oh, they also that they purchased it and they put up there, but People can also visit your site as well. Yep, arrow striker.com Yep, and we put a little promo code on there for the listeners today promo code is Nick and So if we're free of free to check that out. We've got a book and we've got a video Bible study as well
six weeks video study that people can check out. Well listen, I really appreciate it and I can't encourage people enough to Check out meaningful books like this. There's This attempt at times. I believe people with a book like this they think that I mean it is spiritual But they don't recognize that there's an action that can come from and they can actually Make your life better and so I'm always really encouraged for people who maybe feel like What's going on and I just feel like I wake up. I go to bed. I wake up go to bed. There's no meaning That emptiness and there there's relatively simple actions you can take That will make you feel so much better and and purposefully and significant to site the one chapter Jonathan Hardy the book arrow striker. It's great to have you on I really appreciate it next book come back. Okay. All right sounds good. Thanks Nick Springfield's talk when oh four one the first alert forecast from Ozark's first meteorologist Tom Schmidt sponsored by JNS automotive
Today, we'll see a chance for showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with a high near 78 Tonight showers and thunderstorms with a low around 62 For your Friday a slight chance for showers before 11 a.m. Otherwise partly sunny for the rest of the day with a high near 68 And for Saturday mostly sunny with a high near 73 You ready for some very exciting news. Okay. I'm here for it Jefferson Avenue footbridge on track to reopen this fall Ooh following delays. I think it's funny. It's like well, it's not really on track because it was supposed to It's on track after not being on track. I wonder if they will invite you to be a guest speaker. I don't think They already nor should they you know how I've been about this dumb thing I and I still I will say That it can be turned into a positive if it is utilized In order whether it's some annual festival, you know making because you'll have these towns that will
Make a the build a festival around something that is rather Uneventful I think a great example. I don't know if they still do this in San Antonio or not, but the river through the river walk They used to I believe annually Drain it they would drain it in order to just get the crap out of it people lose things they down in it They throw things in it and they they would and it's part of maintenance and they've essentially turned it into a giant festival And in they you know, so they they took there what's a routine maintenance event and managed to turn it into Something that brings in tourists and so forth. It if C street manages To utilize that footbridge in that way. I think that that is a good thing the spending of millions and millions and millions of dollars Just to reopen that thing is To me completely absurd in and of itself 13 million dollars. I know at one point earlier this year that was the price tag that was
presented as this is what it will cost taxpayers in order to reopen that footbridge Oftentimes those estimates are a bit under what the reality ends up being but nonetheless uh, it apparently is set to be open Now, when's the date here? So it goes close 2016. I should have highlighted this exactly what day Cruise are currently working on decking Stair stringers elevator shafts while Falcon electric works to restore the lighting city officials report the electrical repairs and final structure work We're app up simultaneously keeping the footbridge on track where a ribbon cutting and public reopening this fall So there's not like an actual date. Well, it doesn't sound like it The fall though, you know, so it's a quarter of a year target The first of the fall was like two weeks ago at this point so and it was in
It was in June it was originally supposed to open and the route 66 thing Yeah, and they still did they had a big drone show and and they went through with the symbolic ribbon cutting for the the opening of it which I think given the Increased amount of foot traffic due to the route 66 festival and so forth that that was going on to the celebrations It made sense to go ahead and do that but um The the official official opening is slated apparently on track sometime this quarter portion of the year I got yeah, I'll I mean We'll just have to go down there and see it. I guess. Yeah, I guess we will it'll be a new place for people to take to haul up styrofoam cups to ask people to Homecoming and prom That I'm trying to think what are there two other one? There is it's obviously not nearly as big but you've got the Metal footbridge will just
near sunset and and Kansas Expressway Then there's the one on South Campbell by Stake and Shake there's also enough of Barney Yeah, and then Metter Park Over by the mall oh, yeah, well that sunset is well then isn't it yeah, that sunset I'm trying to think of there any other this obviously much more. It currently has I think like a like Rope or I don't know but it basically says and it's hard to read but it says pray for truth right now Okay It's it's hard to read I don't know what this it's rope or clothes or something. I don't know It's written in rope. Yeah, okay. Well Whatever that means so Yeah, that that's gonna be opening soon and like I said, I do believe There is an opportunity to take that make it some even if you're playing off the goofiness of the idea
Turn it into a an annual big draw to get people down in C street that there can be true meaningful benefit from it If it's utilized it in that capacity, but otherwise throwing it's one of the reasons that the entire Fight with refusing to pay hotel of terror what it actually needed in order to continue to function But just tossing millions and millions of dollars at an old footbridge Was so very frustrating to me I Permanent roofing company text line 447 KSGF tomorrow morning will it will be broadcasting live from Ozark Empire fairgrounds once again kicking off farm fest and not just the morning show but then Saturday 10 a.m. for an hour and then Throughout the day Friday and Saturday checking in during what are the the normal commercial breaks the shows throughout the day will be checking in with partners from farm fest as well so
When you hear that sort of difference than the normal programming that is what it is all about of course we'd love for you to come join us if you like All right, a Brookline door works. I would keep them in your phone keep them Saved in a tab out of course you can always call them their number is 8-3 sorry 8-8-3 door 8-8-3 door Brookline door works.com is the site If you forget all of that KSGF.com nicks endorsements residential commercial security gates routine maintenance. I love their attention to customer service You all know what service calls can be like. It's that window between 8 a.m. and noon or noon and four and you're really tethered to your home Because you don't know when they're going to get there and This is something that Brookline door works some time ago recognized You know, that's that's a hassle. It's not convenient and you you can't in that sort of industry really truly pinpoint an exact time because
The job even your job you show up. They don't know they have a ballpark idea of how much time it's gonna take but things occur Sometimes it's a little sooner. Sometimes it's a little later than what perhaps they had planned for and that Of course shifts the timeline particularly as you go on through the day So what they do is they send you a text with a picture of the service technician that is coming to your home as they are on their way And you even get a little thing so you know where they are on the maps who can follow them That's helpful if you have errands to run. I've been in that situation before I needed to go buy pick up a prescription It was only gonna take five minutes But I didn't want to leave and miss the service call and this helps Guide you around that. It's just one of the the perks if you will of utilizing Brookline door works for full-blown garage door installations or routine maintenance or anything but in between Brookline door works.com there is a It's being referred to as bizarre and I don't think that's necessarily off the mark
Description for the behavior. This is what we're being told of one of the suspects in the feared at tear plot on the UK air base This over the last several days hitting the news handful of suspicious individuals Younger aged men is described by a witness that were middle eastern scattering she says as You know, it's one thirty in the morning and she's driving down her road near this air force base And she sees these three vans with markings of that had phone numbers that according to some reports weren't phone numbers that were legit and Then you have the arrest of these individuals the UK government releases them and they're like we're still investigating them, but we're releasing them anyhow You had Marco Rubio noting that there was a foreign government hand in all of this
The inference many people would take from that is that the this has something to with Iran Targeting this military base that is used by the United States of America There are new reports that the one of the reasons Law enforcement was so quickly on the scene is because One of the men Called 999, which is their version of 911 Prior to them actually even going out there I want to read to you some of the New York Post story and it there's a lot here that doesn't if you will add up And some of that could be because of inconsistent or inaccurate information that has been provided to the press either erroneously or Because the government that has the information wants to deliberately mislead people as to what's going on
The New York Post reporting that one of the men busted in the suspected terrorist plot of a UK military base used by the US Air Force Forged strike on Iran had called police on himself according to a report The unidentified suspect had called 999 the UK equivalent of 911 an hour Before he and four other men all London-based British nationals between the ages of 23 and 25 were arrested early Sunday near royal air force base Fairford this according to the times of London It was not immediately clear what he told the dispatcher and whether he called because he got cold feet Or whether it was part of a twisted plan sources told the paper But the call meant that authorities were already on the scene when a farmer heading home from a party also raised the alarm At seeing the men acting suspiciously the five men were arrested on explosives and terrorism charges with officials probing Whether the men were acting as proxies for Iran nearby homes were evacuated and a panic after police discovered the men
Driving three bands filled with suspected explosives that police later determined to be fuel Like these these gallon jugs of fuel apparently Lawrence Taylor the national head of care counter terrorism Told reporters Tuesday night those vehicles have been subject to extensive examination With the support of military assets and forensic experts and we can confirm that no improvised explosive devices were found However a quantity of petrol was recovered The farmer who later called cops claimed she noticed Uh lettering on the side of a van appeared to be faked And that she saw masked middle eastern looking men scatter and run through the fields in the direction of the base The five suspects all released bail on Monday Trump said that he would not have given them bail and Tehran rejects the idea that they have any connection to this whatsoever
There was a confirmation yesterday that police had searched the suspect's residences in London and defended the decision to release them in on bail Quote I understand why this development will have come as a surprise to many but I'd like to reiterate that it was an investigation An investigative decision and one which is grounded in experience and careful consideration of policing power Based off the information that has been provided There are a new number of different scenarios that that could be at play here The first why would why would one of these individuals call 911 and at the time of this New York post story It had not been revealed what he told the dispatcher so that could make all the difference in the world Did Did Was in an individual that called and and claimed their suspicious activity out here not identifying himself as one of the individuals in order to get law enforcement out there
So one one school of thought Could be that these individuals were deliberately doing this in order to get caught and create a new story And that could be for a number of reasons maybe maybe it was to test response time To see how long it would take for Law enforcement to arrive at a particular scene close to a military base Once you call 911 and say I see suspicious activity so see how long how long if we get observed Carrying out this sort of activity How much time do we have to carry it out before law enforcement arrives? It could be something along those lines And it you think well why is it how does the the farmer gal play into this and and
Why did they scatter when they saw her I mean if this was all a I don't want to say a dry run, but a test to see the response They could have placed the 911 call sat out there Then when they saw the headlights because one of them called 911 for the purposes of they they saw okay We're gonna scatter we're gonna see what their response is to that if we all take off running or take off in these vehicles And when they saw the farmers headlights thought it was the law enforcement coming and that's why they responded that way I think there are also some natural questions when it is noted that law enforcement had already been called like an hour and a half before like at that why were they still why did it take a Farmer coming down the road in order to apparently Create this scenario in which they felt oh here they there's just a lot is like what what was law enforcement doing during that period of time
If it was the farmer that caused them to scatter was law enforcement already out there just quietly observing them Or you know had they they not quite made it out there yet they were still on their way there's a lot of Huge gaps here in terms of information to be able to figure out exactly what was going on But I think at the very least this is sort of this is bizarre And at the same time it would not surprise me for government to downplay it If these were individuals that were attempting to carry out some sort of potential terrorist attack to to downplay it publicly to Do that for a number of different reasons could be a possibility. Let's not forget right here in the United States It wasn't that long ago There were a number of individuals that were foreigners that tried to I think they did bust through a security gate at a military base and they had backgrounds that were
Reason for concern and then eventually that was treated as oh it was just sort of a it was an incidental thing And it was at least in terms of the way it was presented publicly that it was you know nothing to see here sort of scenario but Certainly an odd story and that is an interesting revelation regarding that whole situation with those guys Outside that air force base springfields talk 101 I'm Nick Reed Sarah Myers. Uh currently you can pack a state with illegals They get counted in the census which means that states that welcome in illegals will get more members of congress Which get taken away from states that don't and this is something the Trump administration actually tried to change during the first term Was blocked from doing so and so they're going about it in another way this time around But when it comes to that issue it's not just it's much like photo ID Even Democrats are supportive of only counting American citizens for those purposes We will talk with you tomorrow maybe see some of you tomorrow's we broadcast live from farmfest will be their Saturday as well Glendek is coming up next I'm Nick Reed
