Billy R Sports here on the Thursday. We went a little an extra day because I was traveling yesterday, but getting you ready for the games this weekend and the news updates. Drew, week three is the last week of the season where all the teams will be playing where you get your full course of the games in terms of Sundays. Because then there are like, you know, there are there are our buys and then you have when they play on Saturday and then they start playing on Friday or in Munich and like everything.

3:10So this is the last time you get the full effect during red zone. It should be fun. Yeah, full if you want to parlay them all. That's what I like to spray the board there with the lottery ticket got that going on. But big slate today and also the later episode just means it's right in front of us. I feel like I'm a little more excited like it's right. They're going to be kicking off while we're talking. Yeah, exactly. A lot of you are probably listening to this and maybe the game is on or maybe it's already happened. The Falcons and the Packers will preview all the games. I don't want to get ahead of ourselves because this is a big show. And there's had a great off air discussion. No, we know we need to bring all fair. There's all fair and on air. We can't talk about Mario's relationship on air. So that's not my boots. Billy is going to give us all the news updates. But before we before we do that, there's been a lot of injuries lots of injuries. Lots of injuries. Lots of injuries. I'm sure Billy will talk about some of them. Do you there's this this sort of thread of thought out there that the fact that nowadays they don't tackle as much in practice.

4:16They don't do all that. The guys aren't ready. You know, they say what is it iron iron sharpened iron sharpened iron sharpened iron. I almost used that as an Instagram caption last week. True story. I typed it and then deleted it about what? It was a picture of me and Malacomberino in the gym like. You know, I came back to my play here. Sort of suggest we're you suggesting you were iron as well. It was just a picture of me and him doing a drill and I literally typed iron sharpened iron. I carry on. I mean, I'm sure he would have felt the same way. Exactly. Do you think that that's plausible as to why people get hurt? Is that by trying not to get hurt in the preseason, you see more people get hurt in the regular season? I think there's a little to that. I mean, there is something to get in, you know, hit a little bit and use to it and into the game. But I'm going to blame it more on the turf for turf and too much. We got to get back to the grass. There's just too many turf injuries. A lot of these that bill is going to bring up probably turf related. Yeah. So more so I'm blaming the playing field than what they're doing in training camp. Well, and you could get rid of one whole class of injuries.

5:17Turf tell. Right there. Let me. I've ever heard of a grass like nobody says grass shoulder. No, I don't know. Turf go barefoot on grass just to fill the earth like grass is what we need. That's exactly right. Like that, you know, that's a whole theory of life now. The idea that you need to be grounded with the earth. Yeah. How many times you've heard someone be like, hey, let's go out there and just touch the turf. I don't have any. Hey, tell us like that. When I, you know, I went to a therapist for a little while when I was dealing with like some anxiety issues, etc. And one of the things he asked me like with a straight face was he goes, do you ever walk in the grass barefoot? And I was like, no. I mean, when would I do that? In fact, I don't even, I don't know what you, I don't even consider it. So he, but he said that there is something about your body. Now again, I don't know if it's true, but he said it or some about your body that if your body is feeling the ground directly.

6:17It gives the body some degree of peace. So I started doing that. I'm not sure. I don't know. I mean, I'm good now. Yeah. Well, that was the reason I've been my much more peaceful now. I don't know if it was because of that, but I try to do that like once a week. I don't know if, you know, doing it in my backyard is the same as running through an Iowa farm, but I do it. So maybe they need to do it in football. I've touched the grass. Yeah, my yard, I mean, the mosquitoes and lexin and are awful. If you go out there in your yard in the evening, you're stomping around, you're definitely getting bit. But I will say when I've done it, you feel it a little bit. Maybe it's just the blades tickling. Yeah. But there is a feeling of I'm walking around, you know, barefoot and me and me and the planet here. You ever do that? You ever get one with the earth, Billy? I have, but only after we had a caller to our radio show who does it every single day make. And he seems pretty peaceful. He does. Yeah. It was a matter of shout out. Yeah. So, well, hopefully they'll start doing that because I don't like seeing all these injuries, especially with big name quarterbacks.

7:19Young people too. But the future's big future. So there's like three careers that in a moment look like they would all be disrailed. And oddly, I guess we'll get to these. They were almost in reverse order of how it looked in the moment. The one that looked the worst may have been the least bad and the one that looked the most normal. Maybe the worst, but Billy, let's go to it. Yeah, we'll start with that quarterback injury news starting with Giants quarterback Jackson Dart who left the Monday night football game with a knee injury that will require surgery. John Harboss said Dart is out for the entire regular season. They're still holding out hope he might be available if they do make the playoffs, but James Winston. They're not making the playoffs. No, they're not making the playoffs. So if James Winston is a quarterback, first of all, James Winston did not hide at all that he did not do anything. No, no. Every time I turned on a World Cup game, there he was doing so. I can't imagine rowing with Norway. Yeah, and he was drinking beer with the Germans and you know, he was killing rabbits with the scots. And like, I don't know that I don't know that he did a ton of working out.

8:20So the idea that he's going to lead the team of the playoffs, I think is a long shot. You know, the Jackson Dart injury in real time didn't look that bad. But now he's out for the year. You know, it's tough because you talk, we've talked about how you go, well, he needs to protect his body, but then he got hurt in a pocket. So you never really know if that anything to do with it, but that's a huge loss for a guy that I thought this was going to be a big season for. Yeah, God has given them a spark, has a little juice to him. He's got a concussion history. He's been in that tent a lot and thought maybe that could be a concern moving forward. But this is a whole new thing. You just, you look at a guy who looks like he was going to have a pretty good career in New York. And you wonder if he's one of those players that come through and just can't stay healthy. Yeah, you do wonder about that. Um, Skatiboo now. Did you see Skatiboo during that game look like he was like twitching? What was that look like? He looked like he, he looked like somebody was hitting reset on his brain. He rebooted their game. He control all three said it in the middle of the game.

9:20And got it. Do you? I thought the giants had a sneaky chance in the NFC because the Eagles and the Cowboys weren't quite clicking. That's probably over now, right? Yeah, I was very impressed by their win against Dallas where Dart and Skatiboo look good in second year guys. Now, and you know, I don't want to make a lot of dark injury, but now for me, it's just entertainment. It's James Winston playing quarterback in the NFL. We all know his personality with cam Skatiboo next to him. I mean, that is going to become a circus. Well, they have to go trade for somebody. I mean, because they do have life, you're right. I feel like they have to. You can't quit. I'm not sure who that person is, but I feel like you, I mean, you know what's going to happen with James. So I mean, it would be worth to me. I don't know. I mean, it would be worth to me. Like, I don't think K-Skinham may have to play for the Bears this week, but that might be an example of a guy that you'd go, why don't we go get him? At least he might be serviceable. I don't know, but then again, I would have thought that, you know, maybe Cooper Rush would have been serviceable.

10:24And he's been awful. So I, but I do feel like they can't just give up here in week three. No, it's been two game. You just have a brand new coach, Harvon and we all know what his name carries. And they got a lot of talent. You can't, you can't, you can't, you can't, and already a big divisional win to start the air. I mean, you can't just throw away the season, but it doesn't. There's not a lot of options out there. There's a lot of banged up QB rooms already. No, they don't get to. So you kind of just got home James and some magic in there. They just pay James though. Is he just a personality hire for the New York Giants? Like, he's got some of them. And it's a good question. I mean, because they pay them decent money. They pay them like good backup money. I don't know. I mean, maybe he just, he's so fun that you just want to pay him. I mean, I'm going to be rooting for him. That's why for entertainment purposes, I think a lot of people are going to be rooting for him. I mean, they might just be people that it's like, I'm willing to pay you just because you make me happy. You know, two years, $13 million. I mean, that's, that's pretty good money for a backup. I mean, I'd be interested to see how many backups in the NFL are making more money than that.

11:25It's, I mean, I'm sure there are a few of tight, I think is one of them for the Bears, but there aren't many. So what we'll see, I think it's going to be a disaster, but what are you going to do? Just unfortunate for Dart end New York. Where's Gardner Menshu when we need him most? Well, he's on some team. Yeah, he just, he was in the preseason. I watched him. He's not a charger, is he? I watched Gardner Menshu throw a football. Where are you watching? He's an example of a guy that deals with the Cardinals. Yeah. So he's an example of a guy that, like, like actually, he's the perfect example, because if you're the Cardinals, you have Carson back there, right? If for some reason something happens to Jacobi, percent, Carson back, you could say, all right, let's put him in there. And you could trade Gardner Menshu, maybe get a fourth round pick or something. I think that would be worth it for the Giants. Would you do that, Billy? No. Come on. Yeah. But he's on that run. It's Patrick Tomlund. I'm trying to wear. You know, he's pretty good, though, isn't he?

12:26He's decent. It's just James is my favorite player of all time. So I am a little biased. I don't want to have James. All right. So just like Winston, though, I'd be rooting for Menshu. I have a friend here in Lexington has a personal connection to Gardner Menshu, and he tells me stories. Dude, this is everything you would want him to be off the field. Like, he already seems kind of like, I don't know what I thought he was. Like, he did. Kind of character. He got the bus. He said character. But just a fun guy. So like, he's not to Winston's level, but he's one you could root for if he got the reins to it. You heard the story about the hammer. Well, you tried to break his own hand. No, I don't know that one. What? Yeah. So he wasn't going to be in line to play. So he wanted to get a medical red shirt. So the night before a game, he decided to try to break his hand with a hammer. You're making this. I'm not. This in college. Yes. He was unable to break the hand, still played in the season for a few games. But the night before he was slated to start. So he wanted to get a medical red shirt. He tried to bust his own hand. So he intentionally tried to break his hand with a hammer.

13:26Yes. And he could not do it. A cold red shirt at Washington State. Yes. That's how's that never come out before? It was on a podcast interview. Maybe bustin' with the boys. And he admitted to that. And he admitted to that. Yeah. Very prominent websites right now. Wow. Yeah, but it was that when he was at East Carolina. Took a swig of whiskey, tried to break his own hand, couldn't, and then had to play. All right. See, that's the kind of guy you could root for. That's the same story. I had no idea about that. I might have to read more. All right. What's next? You mentioned Caleb Williams. He's out with a hamstring injury. So his backup Tyson Baygent with an incursion protocol. So 37 year old third string quarterback, Case Keenum is in line to start. He last played in a regular season game in 2023. Feel bad for Baygent. Cause like he's, I think he's decent. You know, some teams wanted him. The Bears paid to keep him. The Bears paid to keep him. And here you get a chance. And then all of a sudden, you know, you, he had the drive to win.

14:28And then he was like, last week, what enabled to do it? And then he's in, my question about his concussion is, he must have gotten it during the game. Did nobody notice it? Like, is that why he wasn't parking lot? He slipped on his vice. I mean, the idea that he finished the game. And then he's like, by the way, I have a concussion. Did somebody miss it when it happened during the game? I think it was like the very last drive. May have been, maybe the last play from what I was reading. It was late. Oh, did he get it on the last play? That's a convenient example. I mean, you know, it's like someone's been saying it. I don't even think he got hit on the last play, did he? Just a proponent of the shield here. We figure out when he got that concussion. I don't know. He got hit on the last play. Now that it's been a few days, is the Caleb Williams thing going to stick with him forever? I mean, if he comes back and that's a great season, we'll move on quickly. But it's lasted a long time. Even moment before we started this podcast, saw a new video from Taladega Knights with Bing Raim's doing that whole thing with the memes are out of control with him right now.

15:29It stinks because, you know, people have always kind of wondered about the guy, the fingernails and all that. It feels like he finally won everybody over. And they were like, all right, this Caleb Williams. And now, you know, I just wish he hadn't put his talent. It's the longs up in the town. It's all about the town. It's all about the town. But you can be in pain and that's why it was the towel. He had that look of someone that knows their seasons over and you always feel so sympathetic for them. They work so hard and you're like, that's a guy that knows this is the it for him. And that's what we all fell for Caleb Williams the next day. He's like, right, go for the bears. I mean, this is unfortunate because they, they should have won that Vikings game. And now if they have to play case key and presumably if Caleb is close, that means he'll play him week four. But then you play an Eagles team that like, that's a big game for playoff seating if you make it, et cetera. And now you got a good child losing that too because you're having to play your third string quarterback. So you can end up starting one and two, which is a really unfortunate start for them with

16:30their schedule ahead. So it's, it's, it's now that you know, Caleb is okay. Then you got to look at the practicalities of you're not getting the start you wanted. And this was one of, I think it was NFL.com. We'll call it NFL.com. This name like one of the games to watch in the whole season like we're right at the top of the game. It's Monday night, right? That's Monday night. Yeah. And then also we could have big time NFC implications. So we're kind of getting spoiled and the bears are definitely getting spoiled by if it is Keenah, Maryvind, Beijing, taking away from one of the marquee games here. Why is it a good win with Beijing? But I don't think they can win with Keenah. So I think that's going to be unfortunate. Kind of what are you? Would you have like a million points week one and then nothing like it. 21:42Thursday night football, depending on when you're listening to this, maybe tonight. The Falcons Packers and Michael Penix Jr. is set to return to start for the Falcons. He tore his ACL last November and missed the final seven games, but Cooper Rush, after a tough start to the year, it will be Michael Penix. First time I'm glad that I'm glad he's going to play because like now they're going to get to go with him for a while and we'll see if he can be an NFL quarterback. I have no idea. In that class, he's the one that it's impossible to have an opinion. Like he hasn't really played. And he's been hard multiple times. So if he's going to have an NFL career now as a chance, he can't be worse than what they had last week. I mean, Cooper Rush and poor Jack Strand, like can't be worse than that. Thursday night football, you will see, I mean, that's a national stage. That's tough, but at least he gets a chance. Yeah, excited to see him because it's embarrassing what that quarterback room has been on what should be a good offense. It's been two weeks. They've not even made the red zone yet. Not the end zone. Haven't made the red zone yet. Even knock on the pool. That's right. Yeah, they haven't made the red zone.

22:42These are all in that group. So I'm excited to see what he can do. And maybe this is the beginning of what when they drafted and they thought they would get. Yeah, be nice to seem get it go. 24:48an MVP candidate and I've been able to insert the party and take out the May. Yeah. And you mentioned that they were drafted. You were like, by week two, a lot of people are going to be talking about what Brock party's in the future. I mean, I've always believed in for you. I mean, you told me they were going to beat the rounds. I'm sure. Yeah. Exactly right. And then CDLAM and Ashton Gentie, good contract discussions during the off season led to extensions. Kyle Pitts has been bad, but I was smart enough to get Tucker craft who's also been bad. Okay, but again, it could be good. He was lining up at guard, I think last week. So we'll see what he can do. Was that accidental or did he do it on purpose? The injuries to the packer. I didn't know that. Okay. Well, I got a great job on the top one in one team. So get behind me, Billy. I just checked the standings. I thought that was right. Pros. Hey, Joe's. You brought you all in here and you're embarrassing. Now, they were all nice people. What's next? Two more injury updates. 25:50Sunday versus Washington after his butt injury week one. And then Jaden Daniels. I was better after my butt injury about two weeks. Two weeks is a good butt time. It's all it takes. Two weeks. What's the prognosis?

26:52They he's going to see a specialist. So no long term update yet. But the assumption is it's going to be long. I root for him because my guy, her medwards, was his college coach at Arizona State really loves the guy a lot. I heard that interview. Yeah, he really loves him a lot. He was not having it about it for quarterback. Doesn't want to super ball. Yeah, can I just say someone's got her? I love her. He was like, you all might think that, but I think this is a good man. Where's no, he comes in like we have him. And we he's been on with us during the NFL season for like six straight years. I love her medwards. But he came in and I can tell when he's grumpy at the beginning. And when he's grumpy, it's like, this is going to be tough. And he said, first thing he said was, don't ask me any questions until after week three. And I'm like, well, we got 15 more minutes left of this interview. What is it you want to talk about if you don't want to wait till after week three. So we'll see what happens. We do have week three. Marley's like most people, you know, when they think about great quarterbacks, every ring, he's like, you might I don't know. I think about it. I can go. I can get to fight you. Yeah, he gets feisty. You know, he asked me to come play

27:54golf at that spy. Oh, you got to go. Oh, yeah. Oh, and spyglass. Yeah. Cause he like lives right next to it. He's got money. He's got. So, yeah. 28:56Yeah. But there's some concerns pertaining to the field at Maricania Stadium. They're always concerns. Completed like I feel like everywhere we go, they're like the field's not going to what they. By the way, I don't buy that the sums are on the field. They've played soccer games there forever.
