But today it'll be a mixture of sun and clouds, maybe a pop up shower. We got lots to get to in our number two. Carrie Miller will join us at 825 got more on college football and the possibility of the college football playoff expanding to 24. We'll take your calls and texts on the CISIS log cabin lists or lines as well at 9013608255. Our two of the program is brought to you by James Gattis jewelers at 4900 popular avenue between Mendenhall and St. Nick and on the web at gattis jewelers dot com. You can also find them on X Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, a lot of different ways to find out more about James Gattis jewelers what they have to offer.

I think the best thing is to go inside and talk to James, the Christian Brothers High School graduate, a local guy, his family has been here a long time. They've been helping Menthians amidst southerners pick out that perfect engagement ring that diamond engagement ring wedding rings personally designed wedding sets and other fine jewelry for 60 years and going strong. They are your bride on engagement anniversary jeweler headquarters. They have a place point to suit everyone's budget. So if you look into that particular diamond, they'll have it for you. They'll get it for you. They have the natural earth diamonds, the lab grown diamonds as well. They have a great value, great customer service. We had Seth Henning in on last week as a guest. And he said he got his engagement ring from James Gattis jewelers. He's now married. The staff of second to none. They'll buy your gold silver in diamonds. They'll pay a lot of money for that, especially with the gold. It's still a record high for what they're paying out for gold piece of fine jewelry is the gift that lasts forever. Huge selection gifts for $100 to thousands of dollars.

Jewelers Ron texted in says, do you think Durin would sit out part of the season if he doesn't get the money he wants? I can't imagine him sitting out part of the season. Well, what's it matter now that I mean, again, your point is well taken because I wasn't even thinking about wait, he's not signed. So he's not going to be fine. He's not going to be missing a paycheck. Yes, either way, he wouldn't get paid. But I think you can be a little bit more aggressive. If you really want to stand by who you are and gamble on yourself. I think it's a huge gamble. Obviously he's spoken to his, his agent, maybe family members, whoever's in his inner circle. There's little gambling on yourself if you're not playing. Gamming on yourself would be signed the qualifying offer have a big year and then get your max deal. Gamming on not playing does that gambling on yourself? You're not, you can't get anything by not playing. True, but if Detroit was going to give in, they had to give it in by now.

Like him. Well, that's what he's not going to suddenly. They're not going to suddenly give in the max deal. That's what I'm saying. I still think that if he holds out, and I'm not suggesting he do that, I'm not going to say that he's not going to be a good guy. I'm not suggesting he do this, but if he holds out, they may give in. Again, I don't have the roster in front of me, but beef stews in Memphis as far as what I've heard and what I've seen. He's a, he's a Memphis grizzly. So that means they would be missing. They're two centers from last year. Dern and beef stew, who was a very capable backup. And then he ended up getting the start in the postseason when Dern, right? Right, Jay Hampton, they benched Dern as far as starting a game. They didn't bench him for sort of start and they eliminated his minutes. Okay, they gave, they gave beef stew more time. Yeah, he went in and those crucial moments and point. Right. Okay, there you go. But both of those guys, what's that? Whatever read what the Paul Reed. Paul Reed. Yeah, Paul Reed doesn't exactly, I think, but fear in the opponent. He's a good player, but he's not, he's not Jayland Dern and he may not be Isaiah Stewart.

So you lose both those guys. They may give in. They may just go, all right, we're a weekend. We're two weeks and we're, and we're two and three. We know the Eastern Conference is even more competitive than it has been in a long time. I mean, there's eight, nine strong now. So maybe they give in that's where you're gambling on yourself that, you know, they're going to relent. They're going to give in. Then again, you may have an owner that says, screw this. I don't care. I can't even say a long time for the Eastern Conference. I got to say in my lifetime period, they never had that level of depth. Maybe from the bottom. Yeah, I didn't, I've been around the circle a long time. So I can't fall back in the days with the pistons and it was top heavy with, you know, the Celtics pistons, bulls, the bugs at the time. Exactly. It was top heavy, but the bottom would be like mid five hundred closer around there. Now it's like one through eight is like, okay, they're probably. Oh, it's, it's going to be really, really competitive. It's no given that, you know, the next we're going to come out of it and have a chance to repeat.

There's just too many teams. But again, you don't want to fall behind early in the season. And I know with K-Cunningham and others, they still have a very capable team. But if you fall behind, then they go, you know what? We better get darned. And then maybe ownership gives in. Maybe they don't. Depends on how staunch they want to be about the, you know, Adam, they want to be about not paying the guy the max money that they could pay him. So I don't know. So in a sense, it is gambling. The way you're talking, it is also gambling on yourself. To me, I'm not Jayland Dern, but I'm looking at five years of two hundred million dollars. Like, give me the money. That's, that's, that's pretty good coin right there at 40 million a year because you never know when you step out on that court. If you play for the qualifying offer and just don't sign and you play for that money, while it's great money for you and I for him, it may not be life changing life altering money if he gets hurt and it's a career ending injury.

And I know we bring that up all the time, but it does happen every once in a while. It's not like it's unprecedented that a person has an athlete hasn't gotten hurt and is crippled for the rest of their year of their life. At least a human. They're human. Those things happen. So it's a, it's a tough call. Either way, it's a tough call. But again, who wants to wait longer? But I have got a weird feeling that something could happen today. All right. I wanted to go back to the, the conversation on the possibility of the 2014 playoff, we've always known there's a possibility, but it seems like after yesterday and reading what Ross Dallinger wrote and others that perhaps we are getting closer. He says it's a foregone conclusion. Dallinger does. I don't know. I'm not privy to the information behind closed doors. The meetings that they had in Chicago. Not sure if that was a one day. Do you know if that was a one day fairer? Are they still meeting today? I have no idea. So I don't know who Austin carp is, but he tweeted out the conversations between ESPN and its conference partners, because right now they, they have the exclusive window.

The conversations between ESPN and its conference partners have been tough sledding sources have told SBJ. What's SBJ supports business, sports business journal. Okay. That's what he works for. Trying to replace the revenue generated by an event like the SEC championship around 100 million is no easy task. And that's what we said. That's the one biggest roadblock for Sanky. Our friend Dan Wulken said someone is going to have to explain to me how a December 10th game between eight and four Iowa and nine and three Virginia is going to be worth a ton more money, a ton more TV money because you slap a college football play off logo on it. We already know the value of this game because it's essentially a pop Tarts bowl. Adam Rittenberg also friend of the show only one championship game has both financial and sentimental value. And he's alluding to the SEC said the big 10 title game is a fine event, but won't really be missed.

So in other words, the only one that would suffer is the SEC. And that's why they're looking at other revenue streams to make up for that money. Certainly, that's what Sanky is investigating. But the fact of the matter is that it is essentially going to be a pop Tarts game using that example. And he's just throwing those two teams out. Doesn't mean he necessarily believes those are the two, but I won Virginia. Again, what does it do for people because it's a college football playoff game. Are we that much more excited? Yes, I mean, just bottom line it is like it does make a difference. Because there's something on the line. There were going to be more games played in the college basketball tournament in Dayton and now in Indianapolis, correct? No, no, no, what's the other spot?

Is it Omaha? Yes. Okay. No, uh, where was it? Which it all? Is it which it all? They go to which don't jam? Can you look at a finite where the other venue is for the expanded NCAA tournament, the play in games or whatever they're calling it for? It's with the top of that. Make sure Omaha was my suggestion. They ended up going which dogs like somewhere that part of the Indianapolis with Butler and world famous arena, uh, Henkel, but there's going to be more games and there's going to be two venues. Are we overly excited about that? I hardly even watched the playing games before. And I'm a sports guy. I will win a vote of simple fact that the very first year we had a play in team. I had the first four team went to the final four for that. It's rare though. It's very rare. Well, I doesn't that. I mean, they've had multiple in it. Has it been a lot of that. I mean, plus you probably care about gambling. I mean, even before I started gambling, I remember like when a console Martin was there, Tennessee, they went first four three hundred and 68 teams in there and start a playoff like in November.

We do. We called we started with a conference. They're all X we in the NCAA tournament. I have a chance to win in advance. We probably would like to see more 11s and 11s in plays as opposed to 16s who are going to get probably beat the Thursday Friday. Anyway, the conference tournament is not the NCAA tournament. The song it is essentially is though. You start a tournament. I know as long as you win. It's not you will advance. It's not if you lose your season tournament. There are not a ton of people watching a late night is wet as the waxed on existence. They're not big sky. They're not watching the big sky finals. No bad except John Hart because he's a bit late that way. I'm not really the general. I'm not saying that they are. But that's my point. When you put the NCAA tournament on it, people watch it. Just like if you put college football playoff on it, people will watch it. There's something on the line. Are they watching the con are they watching the conference tournaments. They're not right. They're not even going to the conference. There's a million different games on one time. So give it to the conference tournaments. Expand the field even more. I mean, it's ridiculous. I think it's ridiculous. It's which it ties will. Okay. It is which star. But again, to me.

I don't know. I mean, we're going to start the playoffs in early December now. Is that overly excite people when the 24th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes play the whatever his example Hawkeyes and the Virginia Cavaliers. There are six to eight teams. If that like you said, Jay Ham that can win an ad. I don't want 24 teams. It looks like we're going in that direction. 16 to me is enough. And some people think it's too many. Something we would love for it like we had. Just keep it that way. But everything is about the all mighty dollar. And this is about the all my dollar in the sense that Sanky doesn't want to give up $100 million. If he can't find another revenue stream to make up for the $100 million, which is what Rittenberg is saying that only the SEC has financial unsentimental value. Even the big 10 doesn't in their championship game. And they'll be made right. They'll be made whole. If they are made whole, then we will have the 24. And then when do we go to 48?

I know it's ludicrous, but then 24 at one point was ludicrous in people's minds and they still be. Couple other college football notes mentioned two games tonight, including an American conference game that'll feature North Texas and Tulsa. I think that there have been some surprises so far in the conference. You know, Navy, the start that they've gotten off to in a bad way. But Tulsa, they're went over Oklahoma State, North Texas losing messed-a-maker and their coach and playing well, scoring a lot of points. I think they've been two of the better stories. UTSA is doing what they're expected to do score points and give up points. But those are three teams that do not play Memphis. We talked about this yesterday. North Texas Tulsa UTSA does not play Memphis unless maybe they meet in the conference championship game. One of those teams against Memphis if that happened.

Wester could tuck you into Mexico State play tonight. That's the other game on tap to open up week five of the college football season from the SEC. Jared Curtis yesterday was listed as questionable for Vanderbilt in Saturday's game versus Georgia. He's starting quarterback who again we talked about yesterday not being made available to the media as a starting freshman quarterback and people have lost their collective minds about that. As you said, all these players, especially the players who play that are significant and play significant roles should be made available to the media. You know, why are they hiding them? So Curtis, who knows, he's questionable, but that's just the first injury report of the 17 injury reports we will get before they kick off the pitch. That might be questionable for self preservation. In what sense just for this game for Georgia, they want to get that killed by Georgia. Yes, but he, but this is not happening to it would have happened if they were playing Austin P this weekend. He's not making them available. Apparently.

That is not a big questionable. No, you know, I put you meant the availability. The ultimate the availability. Yeah, the questionable maybe because of that, but then again, we just saw a couple of weeks ago with the SEC in the SEC with LSU with the games that Lane Kiffin played with Ole Miss with his quarterback. Right. With San Levin. So those games happen. I don't know if Clark Lee's doing that with his quarterback again against Georgia. The monsters of the SEC. Auburn, who will play at Tennessee, Tennessee is a seven point favorite. Here's a little nugget for you. The last three times Auburn has played in Knoxville, they have won. Now does that matter? This history matter. We always bring up history. Does it even matter? That absolutely matters. Different players, different coaches. You're asking his story and of history matters, of course.

History matters in that sense, but I'm saying does it matter in deciding whether or not you think Auburn could once again beat Tennessee? What you're deciding, in my opinion is do you think Auburn has the horses is Byron Brown able to win at Tennessee? What's the situation with phase on Brandon? I'm looking at what's happening this year to decide who I think will win. Not what happened in 2012. I told you last week when we were doing the Ole Miss Florida pick. If you're picking Ole Miss, you are completely ignoring history. All history told you to take Florida last week. What happened? Florida. Well, here's the here's the history that I needed to know. And again, I didn't listen. We talked with the one guy who made the history in games, you know, that was Houston. Houston, not. Yeah. But but it wasn't they didn't they didn't win the game because of that. They won that game because the running back Jane ball is a monster. They won that game because again, as people said and you guys talked about it and that's why I know you made that pick Eli was it is hard to stay up at that level after what you just did against LSU and your former coach to continue that and to go into the swamp in a volatile situation with that crowd and to keep that that up that emotion up.

I I bought into it. I thought they would. I was wrong about that. Florida is a lot better than what I thought going into the season with my predictions. That's the one I really, really missed. But again, I don't think what Tim Timo did had anything to do with what happened between Ole Miss and Florida. I don't think what Auburn did in the past. Well, that Tennessee and their game Saturday historically it just doesn't go well for Florida. I mean, for Ole Miss down in Florida and for recent history Auburn hasn't been a winning team since like 2019. So history is not really on their side, but they might not win this weekend, but they maybe get to be a winning team for the season. Yeah. SEC odds for this week's games. If you've missed this, the Florida Missouri game at Missouri, Florida. Now they're coming off the emotional win over Ole Miss at home. Do they keep it up on the road at Missouri. Florida, five and a half point favorite. I mentioned Tennessee's a touchdown favorite over Auburn. South Carolina right now. It's not good for Shane Beamer and company.

And there are three point favorite over Kentucky. Of course, Kentucky at that huge win at Texas A&M. Speaking of Texas A&M, 14 point favorite over Arkansas and Ryan Silverfield. LSU goes outside the conference. They're a 53 and a half point favorite over McNeese. When we come back, we switched gears. We're talking major league baseball and postseason play with our baseball inside or Kerry Miller. You're tuned into mornings with Greg and Eli on sports 56 on 1075. All the sports coming together as Jay Ham likes to say it's a sport equal equinox and we're very happy to have Kerry Miller on all year long.

You can follow him on Twitter at Karen's James. He covers both Major League Baseball and college basketball, which is rapidly approaching. He does that for bleach your report. He's the cohost of the unnamed bracketology podcast. You can follow him on Twitter at Karen's James. Good morning, Kerry. Hey, Greg, don't don't scare me with the college basketballs coming. I'm not ready for that. It is. You're like baseball. Don't frown me like that. Yeah, but then we turn around and I do games and boom all of a sudden like, okay, I got to get into the basketball frame of mind. But you're right. No, right now. Right now it's all about baseball. Have you, did you stay up? I know you're on the East Coast. Did you stay up late for the Cubs, Padres both nights? I did. So you're running on fumes. I am running on teams. I'm on coffee. It took a game game home from dropping my daughter off at school. Yes, they took a little two hour power nap. So I've got my eight hours somehow just a little broken up. But yeah, I wish I hadn't the only good games were the brave Philly games. I was barely able to stay awake through the other three series. Man, there's nothing, nothing interesting outside of the PCA Bill Miller duel.

If the I'm that's it. It's good thing we have the Philly's brave series yet because the others were just dreadful. Yeah, I mean, at least White Sox, the actors was interesting. I would say in kind of all the wrong ways with the Astros not even having one picture survived the first in either game. Yeah, that's it. It's that's tough to go through. Placer is in your st I don't neither starting picture gets out of the first. That's that's tough. Speaking of that, do you think the are the Red Sox regretting naming Chad Tracy as the permanent manager now that all of his players are mad at him for pulling sunny gray last night. Yeah, that's all the all the Yankees fans are like we sure that that's in stone. He has to stay now. Yeah, they're like happy that's a red Sox now have a bit of an Aaron Boone situation on their hands. Yeah, that was. But several controversies involving sunny gray. I don't he had like dirt stuck to his neck. He kept going back to that at a white spot. I know a lot of people were talking about that. So they have that.

That was the only thing really worth talking about in that series. Man, that was that was over in a hurry. No, it was it was over in a hurry. Well, we'll save the Phillies braves for a couple of minutes from here because that one's still going, but the other three are over. What surprised you it was anything that you didn't think would happen happened. I mean, we had one team that won on the road. That was the white Sox. What did you get out of those three series of anything? Yeah, I was pretty shocked that the Cubs just couldn't get anything going on offense against the Padres, which against that bullpen absolutely. That's maybe the best bullpen in all baseball. But I mean, Michael King is good. He's solid, you know, mid to your ace. They hit against him like the Red Sox did against Cam Schliitler. Like he's not a Saiyung guy. I think Paveta is not that not that special for as good as the Cubs offense was all season. I was shocked to see them just completely disappear like that.

I thought the Astros would be the white Sox, but I'm not really surprised at anything that's going to happen in that quadrant of the bracket that really nobody's all that interested in. I guess we'll convince ourselves that we're excited about a white Sox guardian series that all focus is going to be on raise Yankee. Yeah, I'm in. I said all right. I don't know why they don't receive this. The fact that the Yankees and raise have to play each other is ridiculous. I get this right. I feel it was that was saying it during one of the games. I mean, they've got five announcers on each crew and four games. But somebody said they should do it. Right, the Astros you won your division. You get in, but you're the 60s. You don't get home field advantage in opening round. The seeding should just be fully based on records. So yeah, the Yankees shouldn't have been playing yet. The Red Sox should have been hosting the Astros. But I know we have other more contentious things coming our way in the CBA discussions this fall season. But maybe we'll be able to sneak that in there.

I know the white Sox were struggling down the stretch and they ended up not winning the central. Obviously they get in as a wild card. But they scored 13 runs in the two games against the Astros. Their offense came alive. They've shown that they have good ability to hit the ball and hit the ball for power. But like I said, it was kind of gone. They ran out of power. It seemed like the last three weeks of the season. Are you surprised that they found it against Houston the way they did? Not really. I mean, as much as the Astros struggled all the same. I convinced myself that Houston was turning it on at the right time. I think I forget the exact number. I believe 32 home runs in their last 13 games. Hunter Brown, Hayden Westnetsky and Christian Javier all had a sub three ERA like their last five. It was all coming up Astros there for a hot second. Javier hit the I.L. Westnetsky wasn't available for either game I think.

It just kind of snowballed on them the way they had to fight and claw to the finish line. And then that left them shorthanded heading into the post season. But the white Sox hitting a bunch of home runs doesn't surprise me. I think they were the only team that had three players with at least 30 home runs. I think they're right and basketball we talk about what would it be like if you built entire roster out of LeBron James in the white socks have decided to build an entire roster out of Joey Gallows like they've all these guys who can hit 40 homeers and strike out 200 times. But it's working for them. The the biggest surprise to be out of that Astros white Sox is that like Yordon Alvarez was one for eight like I just like that dude's are going to get hit every time he's up. And so you're going to have your two MVP's when I combined one for 15 in the post season. Yeah, pretty pretty brutal show. We can be MPs for sure. How about the at least the at least the A L. S. I. Young winner was amazing. That's true. And we know a lot of times and they will see what the NL side young award win a whole.

And we got a ways to go in the post season. But a lot of times history will show you that guys that either were great during the regular season, struggled in the post season or vice versa. And all of a sudden you get these surprise heroes over the years. There's been so many times like a Brian Doyle. I'm going way back. You know guys step up and become here Aaron Boone. They become they become stars in the post season and maybe we'll see that the Yankees. Okay, they're doing what we expected the Yankees to do. But they're doing it without judge and stand, which tells you just how low it this team is. Ben Rice was great and continues to be great. Belinger went deep yesterday. They got gold. They got other guys. Lumbar and all that they're just contributing. But what happens now with judge and stand. I mean, it seems like to me that it's going to be hard. Even if it's a world series Yankees Dodgers to beat the Yankees if this power continues and they add to that with those other guys that they come back.

Yeah, I mean, if we're headed for Yankees Dodgers, which I mean at the moment it feels like that no disrespect to the brewers. Routin for them for sure, but it does feel like we're heading for Yankees Dodgers part two. The rotation matchups is going to be unbelievable. Like last one I met two years ago, I think Clark Schmidt and Louis Heal each started a game. I know Walker Bueller started one for the Dodgers. I think Jack Flairity had well like those were bad pitching matchups compared to what we've had. For the game four is going to be Carlos Rodón against Tyler Glatt. That's the thing. So it'll come down to whether the Yankees are healthy enough. Like as you mentioned, Rice and Belinger have been great. And when they were awesome early in the season, those two guys were really carrying the lumber. Spencer Jones has been surprisingly hitting incredibly well against lefties all season. I don't know where that's going to come in moving forward. But do they have enough one through nine depth to take down the Dodgers or even the brewers for that matter? I don't know.

But if Judge and Stanton are back, that changes the calculus considerably. So do you think the Yankees take care of the raise? Yeah, I think so. I'll have to really dive into that preview at some point. I got like a day or two before I have to start worrying about it. I think that I think the Yankees are the the better team. I definitely started to come around on the raise over the last month and a half. I think they're they're much more of a well-rounded lineup. Then I think we gave them credit for for the first half of the season. But I don't know. I don't know that I buy Nick Martinez and Griffin Jacks starting games together. I'm with you. I'm with you. I'm with you. I'm certainly feels like the winner of that will absolutely should kill who either Cleveland or Chicago like I think the A L championship series is going to be worthless. Yeah, I would hope so or were heading for a really weird world series of like Cleveland against the Dodgers or I think the Padres are going to beat the brewers. I think the Padres right now are just on fire. I think they're going to beat the brewers.

It wouldn't nothing would surprise me in the postseason for sure. I think year long no question the brewers were the better team. But you have the Padres of one like what 19 out of 22 at this point or something insane. I mean they're on fire like nothing else. I'll say that the Padres brewers like those games they're basically six inning games because those two bullpen I don't know the lights out. It is jamming. You better be winning after six. I think the three series that ended in two games and we got the fourth wildcard series that is going to a third game a decisive game tonight. My Phillies stayed off elimination yesterday as you know it's been a let's get weird series so far. Man Phillies game one they got it. They take the lead two different times Austin Riley by the way I don't know I don't know if you know this carry us from here in Memphis he has haunted my Phillies several times and did so again and that's that Phillies bullpen and the decision that maddenly made the bringing his ace reliever but he was the only real option because the other guys are terrible.

But then yesterday they come back and they get to the braves pitching staff they hit the home runs after what Harper did in the field he and Schorrer so we get the offense going again for the Phillies which has been in a in a rut for a while and then of course the home hits the home run in the 10th inning so now we go into this third game tonight we don't know the starting pictures as of this moment we got thoughts on that what do you think who do you think is going to start first of all what would be your best guess. As to who the starting pictures will be and what do you think happens in game three. Yeah I would assume it's grant homes for Atlanta and probably no law for the Phillies right but Wheeler and do honor both certainly available in relief which I think is a pretty big edge for the Phillies at this point and that's kind of in my concern with the braves all along like I'm heading into the post these a lot of people were thinking today you're probably good enough to upset the Dodgers in the NLDS because of Chris sale like well Chris sale doesn't pitch every game.

I still got to have Tyler Malley and and grand homes and you know whoever so I think the even though they're on the road I think the Phillies probably have the edge in this one. Yeah I mean sale could pitch certainly in a best of seven series one four and seven I guess they could do it like old school stuff but you're absolutely right. I wonder though Wheeler we had a texture because I wasn't sure when Wheeler had pitched I thought he had pitched Sunday in the closer yeah so that would only give him three days rest. Nolas got four I feel a lot more comfortable with Wheeler but you think they would start Nola and then have Wheeler ready to go. Yeah I mean if you're if you just want the the better picture yeah you want Wheeler out there but he knows the pitch and well lately like you said he's got that one additional day of rest although he was kind of terrible the last time he's on the mound. That's my worries. It's here a little bit but yeah it's it's all hands on deck now who knows it's going to happen I mean we had the the asterisbroad in there game one starter in relief in the first inning yesterday so it's crazy times.

Yeah it thinks things are weird and when again when the first game of the playoffs the other day and you got two teams battling each other with bullpen games to start the playoffs like it's just baseball it's just a different game these days. Well what about what about the decision that manningly mating game want to bring in Duron and the seventh inning he's a one inning guy but I but I you know what carry I I wasn't upset with the move he's thinking well maybe maybe he can get lucky and throw three and we can get out of this because I don't have any faith in anybody else in that bullpen so he brings him in go ahead. Yeah I was going to say I love the decision I didn't ever think that he was going to go nine outs I thought the plan was because it was Baldwin and Akunia like that was the state situation right there sometimes you just got to do that we had that I mean you saw that as a fairly fan what in 2022 23 when the Padres did not bring in Josh Hader when Bryce Harper was up and then that ended the series but you got to know what the key moments are actually thought that the top half of that inning I thought the.

Braves should have gone to either Suarez or Iglesias right there instead of letting I think it was for the point that was pitching that like yes you got to know when the state situation actually it's not always in the ninth inning so I was surprised that he went you know the full eighth inning as well but I think if they had still had you know one or two run lead they might have I don't even know who they would have turned to but I don't think I'm going to go nine outs well who would they've gone with that's what that's what I'm going to say. That's what I was wondering if he was trying to like get crazy here if do run out of one two three in the eighth does he come out for the ninth I don't know if he wouldn't have come out for the ninth because again they said he would have checked with him and see how he felt that if not he was going to talk about Jonathan Boland who's another guy from here that's right you. You were doing there were to try and piece together but he said he was just he basically checked with him after the seventh he said he was good to go so they were to check with him again after the eighth and he was good to go for the night and he was fine got the two outs and then he gave up the hint they hit batter in the rest his history with Riley I knew was you know fastball pitcher fastball hit her. That that was going to end and poorly but I got a question I got a text from a listener so to ask Carrie if we have a world series of Yankees versus Dodgers does that really help the argument over money and if we have Cleveland at 30 in payroll versus a smaller market Milwaukee does that help the other side of the argument or are we just headed to a apocalypse no matter who is in.

Yeah I mean I think that and I wrote about this the other day in the AL East right the raise they were supposed to finish in dead last everybody picked them in fifth place because the rest of the AL East those other four teams combined to commit $887 million in free agency as well as you know traded for sunny gray and Hazus Sanchez and all these other guys and the raise still were the best team in the American League. Yeah I think that right there is your if you're the MLB PA that's your open and shut case that you know we don't need a salary cap we just need competent ownership right right competent ownership that's a good point really the but if it is the Dodgers and Yankees winning or the the Dodgers go for three in a row do with the row it's hard to argue. Yeah now it's it's going to be in ugly offseason I think no matter what I don't think there's any way the players are going to cave I think it's a question of when the owners are going to be tired of hammering money I know there's been a lot of talk about you know 60 games is kind of the the threshold that everybody's talking about like if if the season doesn't start by Memorial Day they're probably going to cancel it all together and the fact that we're already talking about that is not promised.

I don't know I feel like my thought on cap is I'm okay with it as long as there's a huge divide like it feels like the owners are coming in wanting like everybody has to spend between 200 and 250 million or something like that and that's never going to fly but if it's something like you know 125 on the low end and 375 on the upper end like still if you have the money you can spend it but you can't go crazy and also you do have to spend the money and you can't go crazy. I'm not going to spend some money like I have to reel in the dogs and the mets on the high end and bring up the guardians and the marlins on the low end and and then you have kind of that happy medium that might get past but man I don't know it's going to be a rough few months. We need you in the negotiations Carrie Miller. Be a part of it. Please we got some baseball still to be played and Carrie will have you covered at bleach report. I stepped into sweet notchings for the very first time there's two locations popular at Perkins extended and overton square I'm sure a lot of you have been in there. Maybe you haven't but that was the first time I went in there and it was incredible it did remind me when I walked in of wonka of Willy Wonka I got to be honest with you with everything that they had in there all the candies in the sweets and the toys for the kids but they got so much more it's a sweet adventure. It's a one of a kind experience. You open the door you step into a real life candy land the owners are fantastic love talking to them and trying some of the delectables but for all you parents out there and grand parents out there. You're looking for a reward for your children or grandchildren you just ace that big test or they did all their chores at home and you're looking for something maybe to do over the weekend or during the week.

Stop by and see what they have the offer at sweet notchings and get your son daughter grandson granddaughter a reward for for being look somebody would say yeah you know that's their job. They're supposed to do all that and get a's and school. No it's always good to reward and you can reward at sweet notchings candy and fudge and popcorn of all types and cotton candy and specially soft drinks and macarons and chocolate those turtles. The lollipops they have all kinds of those toys like the squishes and the RMS dumplings I've never heard of it but I'm sure all the kids have 40 plus flavors of homemade ice cream and I mean homemade ice cream and they have the adult ice cream as well. The ice cream that's infused with a little liquor little Jack Daniels whatever you're liking is I tried that out and that is great. What is it Willy Wonka said that candy is dandy but liquor is quicker they got hundreds of jelly bean flavors flavors and fun never ends at sweet notchings where you'll find a little happiness in every bite sweet notchings pop or at Perkins extended and an overton square.

The this this continuing thing in John Caliper is the latest one of coaches trying to defend their salaries. Yes. The play like it just I shocking the cow like I just don't even understand like he brings up the fact that players are making more than his assistant coaches. Yeah they're not making more new they should like they should be making like I guarantee you this John not one fan pay is paying off is buying a ticket to watch one of your assistant coaches coach right there you have Nick Saban going on to talk about two completely different markets how much value does a coach bring to a college university. His value is only the players he brings in the play for the they're the ones that bring the value. The coach just down there on the sideline without any players not bringing any value to anywhere. It's the players winning that are playing that's what brings the value like I again it's the old white guys who make a bunch of money will always try to protect the old white guys who make a bunch of money but like it's just ridiculous to try and defend these things by like acting like I didn't like that.

I didn't like literally say like I mean these players are making more than my assistants. They should be I would yes they 100% find me any sport. Where the assistant coaches are higher paid than the players right right like that that that should never be the case. Look a assistant coach brings zero value nobody cares who is the assistant coaches are I bet if you shout a little truth serum in most of these coaches but in particular older coaches let's say older than 40 none of them probably in my opinion care to have those players make money. If they had their druthers they would not want those players to have name image and likeness they would not like rev share they would like it to be like it always was players got paid under the table or didn't get paid at all and the coaches still made millions that's what they would still want. I think they're fine with it.

I don't know until I don't take money out of their pockets that start threatening to take money out of their pockets and giving it to the players that's where they have a problem with it. They're they're going to always try and protect each other. Well again right now the salaries of these players the top tier players is escalating to where we're talking about five six seven million dollars. Are there any players right now that are making more than the head coach. Does Mensa who's what rumored to be making what six. Does he make more in crystal ball. Crystal ball makes what he makes more in six right is there a way to we have the players the star player or players that actually make more than the head coach. I'm not talking about assistance like you said cares. But when the player starts making more than the head coach again I still believe in their heart of hearts like the dead certainly dabbo's of the world but a number of those guys I guarantee Cal even though he does a lot of things for the players and cares about his players I bet he doesn't want he rather go back to the times of these players not making anything above board.

That's what I think now he is always one that's going to be vocal about this what how would like to go back because that was his big advantage he was the best at cheating so yes he would like to go back it's that's how he wins or could win is I was better at it than everybody else. So yes he 100% would like to go back and Nick Saban who I love listening to I love listening to him break down football actual strategy X's and O's. He's as good as anybody but recently some of the things he has said like you just mentioned I'm just perplexed by it. It doesn't make sense to me. He's a very intelligent guy. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But again I don't know if there's a player out there who actually makes more than the head coach. Maybe there is. But when that starts to happen in college basketball I would guess there probably is. What would be your guess like I bet you nobody on Arkansas makes more in John Calibary.

I don't want to like him but I would there are some college basketball coaches probably making and like the two million dollar range that I could see having players making more than that it depends on where they're coaching because it goes hand in hand if those coaches are making two plus million dollars to probably add a pretty big program. And if that's the case then there's more money you would think so maybe what these coaches have to realize is that is the way in sports because again people are watching the players. So in the professional sports the players make more money than the coaches right because they are the ones who are drawing the fans and that's the whole value is not the coach but they don't want to admit that. No because it's again all white guys wanting to predict all white guys and their money. Yeah nobody's going to tell Nick. The politicians vote down the coaching salary limit in the protect college for tech all white guys protecting all white guys money Nick. Stamins going to probably go to his grave.

I'm more important even though the players play the game like I'm the one. I'm the one who helps these guys get to the NFL. I'm the one who helps us win national championships. I'm not only I'm the one that helps. I'm the one that maybe is the main catalyst for it. John Shire. Total recorded compensation last year and I don't know what he's making this year because he came to mind is 2.38 million dollars. Because when you said 2 million I thought what a shire make because you got to think some of those dookies are getting really good money. What do you think? The Cambuser made last year. Did Cambuser make more than shire? Do you think Cambuser made more than 2.38 million? That's possible. That's a possibility. That's one. So maybe maybe it is happening. I'm not saying for sure that that's the case there. I would guess that on Michigan's roster this year there are players making more than the new coach. Yeah.

Trying to think of a few others. Think about that. Think about that dynamic. I don't think doing who's the guy dealing store it? Who's the guy just. South Carolina. Yeah, got suspended. Right. He's a stud. I don't know what he's getting paid. I would guess he's not getting paid more than Shane Beamer. But maybe. And then you think about his reaction to the Shane Beamer trying to pull him out of the game. He ain't going. It's like now it's like, wait a minute. Like a pro reaction. I make more than you. Who are you to do that? I don't care if they call you coach. I don't know. Just a just a thought about it all. But yeah, Cal. Cal's always going to get in the middle of this stuff. And you're right. Especially with all white coaches making that money. Yeah, they're always going to be patting themselves on the back and supporting each other for that. The fact that they try again. Like that you would even have the thought of bringing up your assistant coaches. Salaries is like a way of defending it.

Is comparing Apple's dollars. The dumbest thing you could ever possibly say. Right. And it sounded like he's trying to make it about the kids making more than the girls. Yeah. Like he's like, what's the problem? I mean, these kids are making more than my assistant coaches. I would hope they are. They should be. They should be making more than you. Certainly coaches and assistant coaches on the staff help these kids grow and become better players. But without the Jimmy's and the Joe's. There's no need for coaches, right? They're the ones that played the game. And that's why we have an IL now. That's why we have revshare. That's why they're slogan is that way. You can have all the X's and those but you need your Jimmy's and Joe. Exactly. And those Jimmy's and Joe's are even though again, they're supported. They're helped. They're tutored. They're nurtured by those coaches. At least for the assistants. They're way more important. I mean, it's not even close.
