It is time for the auto zone Liberty Bowl inside college football hour and that means Harold Grader is with us in studio. H G how are you doing great good morning to you guys we got our world famous pick six coming
up a little bit later on in the show. So stay tuned for that you made the track which you've made many times down to Tuscaloosa title town and saw Alabama in action. Yeah that was my first trip down there this season. Alabama played South Carolina and you know it was other than really entertaining football game and you know in those situations and our work was always good to catch up with friends and from South Carolina got to see a couple of friends that used to work at the university in Memphis Jeff Crane who's the deputy AD at South Carolina now and Taylor Sanderson who's the head of advancement for South Carolina in their athletic department. So that was fun catch it up with them and you know when you go to Alabama games the pregame you know everybody with credential you go on the field and that's where you really get to see folks and the in an Alabama there's always something tied back to their history and their tradition because they have so many champions and so many all of America you know all that legacy they were honoring the 1966 SEC championship team
and I got introduced to a gentleman who was the longtime manager trainer for coach Bryant and Alabama football. So when I was introduced he told me that in 1959 which happened to be the very first Liberty ball game now known as the Autozone Liberty Bowl Alabama Penn State he was a student manager on that team and later he had his whole career in that field with Alabama with coach Bryant but he told me about the train trip from Tuscaloosa to Philadelphia back in 1959 he said they took a side trip to New York for a day and all of that stuff but he and he was on staff with coach Bryant he said I was at all of them he said I was at the first one in Philadelphia I was at the last one in Memphis in 1982. How about that? It's just a you know I really I enjoy meeting the folks I have a great appreciation for the history of sports in general but obviously our ball game and
and how old is he? Oh my gosh. Let's figure it is let's say he was 19 20 year let's say round up and I'll say he was 20 years old in 1959 so he was born in that would make him 1939 he was born that's 61 plus 20 87. Yeah got to be 87 something like that and that's 60 16 of course they've lost a lot of those guys you know probably the biggest star was Kitty Stable was the quarterback on that team but just fun seeing stuff like that. Let me let me ask you this. Yeah Alabama is they've scored at least 45 points in every game they've played. Yeah they are undefeated but it doesn't seem like people paying a whole lot of attention to know right now we'll find out a lot more about them obviously they got Mississippi state this week then they got Georgia exactly we'll find out a heck of a lot about them but what do you how good are they? I think our should people be paying more attention to Alabama this are they like a legit like are they a national championship type level team what are
they? You know I don't get that feel about that team just yet Eli they're good now are they going to be in that where we all think the middle of the pack in the SEC is going to be as when things wash out as the year goes along are they going to be there at a 93 and 92 or our 10 and 2 93 um as you just said you alluded to it we will learn a lot about Alabama these next few weeks. Yeah but it's Mississippi state Georgia Tennessee Texas A&M LSU that's the next five yeah so yeah and out of those five probably A&M may be the one oh yeah yeah that's a double you the other ones you're going to have to go out there and it's going to be a tussle um I think they like the position they're in right now that not that the obviously no one's overlooking Alabama but there's not a lot of focus on them yeah and they just go do their thing uh I gotta tell you
the Keelon Russell to Coleman Williams combination it is exciting and it's fun now he's holding on had to come to the Alabama folks that were sitting around me that have been to all of the games and I've seen them have paid closer attention than I have uh we're talking about the slow start that they've gotten off to yeah that they try to run the ball but then when they open it up they light up the scoreboard and about the time the second guy who made that comment to be said that they unleash one down the sideline in a way they go so maybe Alabama opens it up more and they're more aggressive with the past game earlier in the game uh but when that when they get going they're they're pretty good as they you know yeah maybe once they start playing better opponents and it may be that's not not that they quote unquote play up to the competition but you got to do something a little different to win the ball game yeah the knowing like hey we we might have yet we got this like yeah we can kind of we feel like maybe we can win by not doing
it then okay then you don't get off to the good start like you're trailing at halftime it gets Kentucky it's like all right we got it we got to do some other stuff we have to open it up more yeah I'm one that was a little bit higher on Alabama than than some of the other people I have them as a playoff team and I think Keelan Russell's been really really good I think they're going to have problems when they played Georgia I think Georgia's defense is the second best defense of unit that Kirby smartest had since he's been there and we remember that one that was an absolute domination where they had like six guys seven guys go to the NFL I think that's going to be a problem for Bamba this week those an interesting game against Mississippi State. Mississippi State has done wonders so far they've been really one of the talk the topics I should say in college football so far this year as far as on the field performance Mississippi State has been a surprise to many I had them win in all those games they won not that I thought they're going to be some great team I just thought they'd beat Minnesota South Carolina and then Missouri I don't think they'll be in Alabama but it's two 4-0 teams Starkville's going to be as jumping as it's been and when's the
last time you got to go back to I mean obviously if you discount egg bowls yeah when was the last time was Dac was the quarterback probably right the last time we've had this much excitement Alabama Mississippi State both 4-0 playing Saturday no doubt uh Bamba's a five and a half point favorite by the way yeah I think the forecast is for rain and it's the early game 11 11 30 yeah love you so that may put a little damper on things but rightfully so down there there is a lot of excitement they just set the record I mean they came for yeah cowbell ringing there you go we'll try to reset the record I don't know if they could top that this week or not but they just set the record I bet they're going to try with the range round out the cowbells if it rains but you know they're they're coaching staff knew they were going to be better and they knew that uh the quarterback wasn't going to be the key to all of that and boy he has been something else I keep asking the question there I'll ask it again this week who's the best quarterback in the state of Mississippi
I think folks still give the edge to Trinidad but Camario he he's something else he is something to watch I go Trinidad but slightly and this is apparently rejected a long term contract yes I saw that no he's from like what 30 minutes away right there and he's been in the program I think I think he actually committed or signed when Zach Arnet was the head coach for that one season I'm not mistaken yeah but with Miami offers him $8 million a year yeah but and I think now obviously state probably came up with some more yeah and but just for all of those reasons and and on some level it's refreshing yes I'm sure the young man got his money but that it's not all about money and he's loyal and dedicated to the home state team the the neighborhood team that part of the Mississippi where he grew up for now and he's and he's the leader of that team
I mean we'll see we just we just had that we just had the high school kid from Memphis who committed the Memphis and he's crushing it right and all of a sudden he's getting all these get offers from the SEC and you know he's waiting for God the God's a recruiter and God's telling him go where the money is so and that's normal we would all do that we you got to look at all the offers that's why it's rare although we've had guys signed for like multiple years like a college guy signed for like two years five million dollars I don't know why anybody with the talent of the top tier players would sign for more than a year you sign a year you're a free agent right and you decide what you're it sucks for the the hometown team if you lose that player but there's no reason why well no there are reasons why Mississippi state could lose him but if you find the money and I would imagine they can find the money at Mississippi state I'm sure there's some deep pocket of boosters if they want to keep him that it will be at least if you can be on
the same plane as what he gets offered in Miami or whoever then because he's from there and he loves it then maybe you keep him but if somebody offers him eight million and you're paying them three million anybody's going to leave but I don't like to hear it I don't like Nick Saban talking about it for goodness sakes about these guys four games or whatever it is into their season to start talking about getting into the portal for next year right ridiculous that was a great disarriage to Mrs. Mississippi state it was wasn't here that yeah I mean it's there's truth to it but yeah I just saying the quiet part out loud yeah that's what everybody's thinking but why say any time any player at any of those places who people know aren't paying as much as others yeah like that's just the thought that the immediate thought people get can they hold on to that point right right it's just sure are they or is it what what are the chances he's going to be able to be sure he'll be there next year for another year and that's the reality of that world and as you said he's there for now and once the portal opens we'll see I hope for Mississippi state sake they are able to keep
it but I do but but everybody again at those places you have the exact same thought like sure can they afford to keep him when we we know what all these other programs are going to be coming at an offer again Harold you were in Tuscaloosa did you get to watch at all maybe even listen to the Texas Tennessee I listen to the Texas game on the drive okay so here's my question and we're only four weeks into the season we got some huge games coming up yeah but Texas they struggled to run the ball arch made some mistakes then made some plays which he seems to be doing a lot of he just has not been consistent from start to finish they squeak out of there with a win 20 to 17 they are still the number one team of the nation Georgia is the number two team in the nation Georgia hasn't played the daunting schedule the Texas has this Texas has already beaten Ohio State and played in Knoxville who do you think really is the number one team well I was a based on the resume Texas is number one resume yes but what do you do I think is the best team
better best or better team of those two yes Georgia okay and I was going to add because you mentioned Georgia or Georgia a few moments ago I do think they're the best team in the country they've done nothing but destroy people this point because they just do what Georgia does and they're even though they're they're highly ranked in all of that they're sort of like Alabama not really no one really paying that much attention to them because they just go out and do what they do Gunner Stockton not that he's a manager he's not a game manager he's like he's the kind of guy that's not going to lose the game for you he hasn't had to do much yeah exactly and they just go do what they do which is just pound the heck out of you and I think they're the best team in the SEC best team in the country you know what I was going to go Ohio State's the best team in the country and they lost the Texas but but I'm sort of with Eli here but here's what's funny it's like and you're right Harold you go you know very quietly you know Georgia's doing their thing Alabama
how can it be quiet with Georgia and Alabama for goodness' sakes but it is because it's going on because it's a kid because it's a kiffin because it's an LSU and all that noise since the start of the season I'm telling you I mean yes that's part of it it's because what Ole Miss has been doing and putting that samples Mississippi State and Camarillo Taylor yes you got Lane Kiffin and the whole LSU thing going on now Florida people are like looking at Florida and talking about Florida like right it's all yes right all kinds of other things happening out there and you forget about these two that are just like going about their business yeah they're saying well said because you're expected that that's exactly what's expected yeah the other teams are doing like other stuff and there's drama and things like that those two are just kind of doing what's expected of them it's funny you look at I was just like because the whole thing in the SEC like the idea of SEC football played defense all that type stuff you know just the whole SEC thing three of the top four scoring teams in America are from the SEC and they are Georgia Alabama
oh my go back to by the highest ranked defense in the country in the SEC 18th in scoring defense wow how about the high the three Florida there Georgia's number one Florida's number two in Alabama's number four it's scoring offense yeah three of the top four offense is in the day should the best scoring defense is 18th of the well because of that you have the struggles of Oklahoma yeah and Texas saying them yeah both we talk people talked about the defense well if the offenses are that good and are better and they trump those defenses in this league you are going to struggle and both those teams are struggling because their offenses are struggling their quarterbacks are struggling yes short answer to that is yes a and m obviously that a great year last year they were a dud in the playoff right but they still had an impressive record to get to the to the playoff last year Elko's the defense of guy they kind of hang their hat on that yeah Marcel Reed struggling
there at a and m they have I don't say they're average but they're not that impressive Oklahoma you know that's a situation that I because I saw them play last year against Texas in the whole situation with with with John Mateer and you know he put the ball on the ground three times last week and they're they're a mess and this is their open we're right back where we were a year ago if I'm not mistaken the game from this past weekend a year ago was when he got hurt they had the open week before Texas and that's when I saw them play at Red River in Dallas and they were rehabbing rehabbing he played against Texas and it was the big you know arch versus Mateer and he they didn't he didn't play well so here we are a year later and we're back in that same position where ever since that injury a year ago he really has not been
the same no he has not and again last you know they struggled last week a lot of folks thought that vennables would announce a quarterback change this week here in the off week that did not happen but the number two and three are getting a lot of reps this week so do they by the time we get to game week next week against Texas will they have to have a change of opinion because they talked vennables talked about it Saturday night that at a half time last week there was discussion about do we make a change a quarterback for the second half they didn't so far this week they're sticking with Mateer now when we roll around the Monday Tuesday getting ready for Texas rolling into Dallas is that still going to be the case um all the way coaches are they wouldn't tell us anyway that's right that's right I guess a problem and and we'll see what the the umpteen of editions of the injury report
yes we yes that I know you guys really love this is so what we'll see but well the season is in the balance right right now it's almost over if they lose to Texas yeah this group of quarter backs of the SEC this year when you're talking top to bottom I don't think there's ever been a better group of quarterbacks in the SEC perhaps so I mean it's like it's really good like this group is really I have to do some some research on that though from top to bottom yeah I mean there's yeah there are there are like there are like you don't look at that guy's terrible like there's very few bad quarterbacks the SEC no there's there's very few bad quarterbacks but the noris sellers has been a big disappointment since last year Marcel Reid's been bad yeah the kid from Florida's okay but they're the running backs the guy there Matthias been bad levit's good obviously chambles and Taylor are great in Mrs. Debbie Arches arch right he's he's not as good as we think he is or or what's been talked about he's still very good Kentucky's guys doing okay so far
vandys a young guy Curtis I'm trying to the Missouri but I like Austin Simmons I think Austin Simmons has been good Georgia Stockton is really good I don't have those guys good I love that these guys good they're young I think maybe a different way to phrase it is the talent level at the quarterback spot is is very high now they're weak weak performance may not equal the talent level which is what we're talking about here with sellers or mature or read at a and M you know they're not delivering the performance based on what we see and believe of their talent level and the high level we expect them to play well the high that's the difference my point of this like if your Texas a and I like I don't think reads that good read might be the worst quarterback in the league if you even though they got a ton of talent right now if you don't have the quarterback in the SEC you're in trouble yes because the quarterback play is really really good I think probably the best it's ever been in the SEC well here's what we got we got it's certainly top heavy where if
I don't know in recent year like the last 1015 years in one draft how many SEC quarterbacks got taken in the first round like in the same draft like multiple quarterbacks taken I'm sure there's been I just don't know you look at this right now like let's say all the guys were eligible and they were going to go to the NFL. Chamberlain's a first rounder I think Taylor's a first rounder okay then you look at Stockton could be could be a first rounder right levit I don't know but he's maybe early second round Russell it's so early right but he keeps on that he's like bright young you trajectory he could be a first rounder so I certainly think at the top it's pretty damn good but I think there's still a number of questions at that position with other teams all right let's take a time out when we come back the world famous pick six so we need a participant Eli color number
let's go color number four 360 825 35 360 825 five system log camp and listener line color number four will have a chance to go ahead to head with one of us picking six games against the spread to try and win some delicious central barbecue so color number four on the system log camp and let's line at 360 825 five will be our contestants and the colors on a hot streak they've won the last two weeks 901360 8255 we'll take a time out before we do so though I want to tell you about shoot 360 Memphis a revolutionary basketball training facility that combines cutting-edge technology with gamification and provides instant objective feedback with hands-on one-on-one expert coach that's a lot of words to say that if you're a basketball player this is the place for you and you could join on a monthly membership so you're not bogged down with some long term year or multi-year contract this is the place where you hone your skills you have the coaching that have been guys that have been at every level coaching from college high school college and even the NBA so you're getting

that unlock your new go to spot codes dispensary and steel Missouri just over an hour from Memphis when you're ready for a legal reliable option through right up the road welcome back to mornings with Greg and Eli now more of the auto zone Liberty Bowl inside college football hour here are your hosts Greg Gaston Eli Savoy and Harold greater welcome back to 1931 is the time as we continue here on mornings with Greg and Eli and the auto zone Liberty Bowl inside college football hour before we bring on lucky caller number four last week which was week four if you're scoring at home Courtney went up against Eli and Courtney and Eli crushed it but because it was a tie the tie goes to the caller so Courtney wins the barbecue both you guys were six and one so five of them against the spread and then you won your best bet in fact we all want our best bets Harold very respectable five and I'll take it and I was over I was four and three I'm not I'm not mad at
going over 500 so four and three remember I took a chance with a couple of those games it worked out with my Tennessee pick it did not work out with my old miss pick another way to put it as you were last and you know what they say if you're not first you're last congratulations Courtney enjoy the barbecue yeah he was last he was not first he was last well okay if you want to put it that way mr. Savoy so far through four weeks Harold is one and oh against callers Greg Gaston is one and oh against callers and Eli is only two against the callers which brings us to our fifth week and it brings us to Kenan who is our lucky caller number four Kenan how are you I'm doing great guys how are y'all man do a fantastic all right so I just threw out the numbers Harold's unbeaten against the callers I'm unbeaten against the callers Savoy is oh and two against the callers what's the overall season picks record well I think you're leading that but Kenan but you're oh and two against the callers that's a fact Kenan who are you going to go up against oh let's let's go Greg come on all right so it's Kenan and myself we're going to pick six games
and then we're going to ask you for your best play and then if you win or tie you will win the barbecue from central barbecue all right and enjoy the barbecue there you go it's a tradition like none other all right we we begin with the game we talked about a lot because you were at alabama last week this one though is in Starkville alabama minus six at Mississippi state in the battle of four and oh teams it's always customary to begin with mr. greater Harold you're all right well let's look at this one I think Eli you mentioned alabama scoring they're averaging what 48 points you would you say they're fourth in the country yes pretty impressive again I talked about the quarterback to receiver combination there that's working really well for alabama Mississippi state four no for the first time since 2014 I guess alabama they are on a 16 game losing streak a lot and I heard you guys talk about history right right and these these guys on these teams now don't know what happened last year with teams they don't care they don't live in that we're and I
have just to do a sidebar when you talk to these young guys and you're interacting with with players sure when they're off the field or they're not in team meetings I don't think they even think about college football or even watch college football it's a different world yeah no they're on their devices and all that how many of these guys heard of bear Bryant they're yokey bear maybe yes anyway to the game I really like and I'm happy for mr. syppy state with what they're doing down there glad they're having a good year for this one states getting six yes I'm going to alabama he's filling two in his fill up buster he wins history he gets the bama Eli he went with history probably in the end you went with history yeah it's alabama and it's Mississippi state that's what we look at eight 16 straight to 16 straight yeah I mean was I love Mississippi state I love the whole come on I live at all yeah and I've picked them I think every week we've used them yep
and they've come through not picking them this week I'm gonna take alabama oh you talked about the rain that may be coming to that area may be coming to a lot of places including where Memphis is playing this weekend Charlotte but um the rain um I I think that hurts Mississippi state even though bama's been throwing the ball a lot they can run the ball Mississippi state depending on Camario um Taylor to throw the ball I've picked Mississippi state each week to win and cover they have but I think it's bama this time around Keenan all right guys I'm gonna try and get one on your hair uh get me super Camario all right I mean it's hey it's a good play still I mean even though we differ um they can easily win this game so mr. P state for uh Keenan I took alabama it's bama minus six we go to the big 10 this is where game day will be Ohio state minus two full touchdowns minus 14 at Iowa Eli impressive win for Iowa last week crazy wins don't
forget how they did it but they got that they got the job how about playing Michigan and Ohio state back to back weeks for Iowa that's a that's a tough task in the big 10 scheduling uh again Iowa is better certainly than I think most people thought they were going to be they're not ready for Ohio state now I'll take Ohio state to roll OH I owe Jeremiah Jeremiah Smith probably another three touchdowns he should be the MVP Iowa good solid year offense is a little bit better we saw the play at the end to beat Michigan as you said Eli even though it's a home game you know it's game day they'll be up for it but Ohio state will be up for it as well they will cover the 14 Keenan oh this one's tough this one's tough um give me the Hawkeye to cover all right so there is a second game that we differ hj when I did this last night I was going to take Iowa and the points thinking that possibly could be a quote unquote low scoring game but with Ohio state even though it's on the
road I don't think they're capable of having a low scoring game are they Eli Jeremiah Smith with Jeremiah Smith on the same to Smith hard three times I'm going to change I'm going to take Ohio state okay Florida minus five and a half at Missouri they're coming off the big win the emotional win over Ole Miss in the swamp Missouri lost at Mississippi state Florida has been again they've been one of the I guess surprises to some extent although I love John Somerow I think is a great coach Missouri playing at home in Columbia I think Austin Simmons has been very good so far for Missouri I think this one is close Florida's laying five and a half on the road I'm going to take the dogs at home the home dog Missouri maybe they don't win outright but I think this one's going down to the wire I'm going to take Mizzou Kenan oh all right well three for three as much as pains me to say as a lifelong ball fan Trump Trump give me the game wow look at the barbecue the
barbecue will change the minds of anybody barbecue and just the thrill of winning you go against one of your hated rivals Florida but you go with them actually all right HG we got yeah I'm all about to Florida really impressed with what they're doing down there and I'm with you Greg big Somerow fan they got the pick of the right game yeah they got the right guy give me the gators okay Eli he also got a nice big there was spent like 40 million dollars on his roster yeah that helps helps here's it see he's here's that history thing John Somerow and his career as a road favorite 13-3 and one against the spread wow I don't ignore history I accept history and learned from it I take Florida wish I had that stat before and no no I'm sticking with my pick all right we go to well here you go Tennessee all burn gets seven at Tennessee I mentioned earlier that the last three visits by the Tigers to Tennessee to Neelan they won again here's this history thing guess who gets the pick first
Kenan does all right I think Jim Knowles is going to have Byron Young seen ghost and go goch is going to get shown by high pull would that offense should be run like give me Tennessee Byron Brown you're talking about right the quarter oh sorry yes I said Byron Young yes Byron Brown okay so Tennessee and they win with that defense Harold yeah Auburn definitely better than they've been not necessarily surprised by that but but they're playing in Neelan give me the big orange Eli yeah with the high pull going against goch it's an interesting little side thing there with the the the teacher and the pupil but Tennessee I was very impressed by what that defense did last week I thought that that that kind of blew me away honestly that they were able to play the way they did a little angry after the way they lost that one this one will not come down to an illegal onside kick I'll take Tennessee is face on Brandon on the injury list this week although it doesn't
matter to says Lane Kiffin was he on the list I did not look to see if you know Kenan I don't I don't think so I a ballquist did not have him on the injury because I'm not so sure about Mac and Tyre if they have to go to him but I love no no no no no no no no no no stay healthy stay upright face on this is going to be a great it's a clean sweep we're all taking Tennessee minus the seven all right we go to the ACC Miami minus 16 and a half at Clemson hmm Harold I am tempted to take the 16 and a half but not for long Miami Eli yeah I don't have any faith whatsoever in Clemson they might be the worst three in one team in America honestly like I that I can't believe there's three in one quite frankly but yeah Miami I'm all about Miami here yeah I'm with you guys Miami Kenan
Miami all the way all right clean sweep for the canes and then finally Arkansas Ryan Silverfield they finally got a win last week to beat Tulsa they're getting 14 at a reeling Texas A&M team that lost at home a couple of weeks ago to Kentucky a beat bad and their quarterback continues to struggle Eli you're first well Texas A&M is one 13 of the last 14 against Arkansas but they've only covered one of the last eight hmm so it's little differing things here I honestly don't have a clue what to expect out of Texas A&M at this point um it feels like it might be too many points but I'm still going to take Texas A&M okay the question is can they force Marcel Reed in a couple of turnovers yeah and he has been giving the ball away he struggled they got the 12th man it didn't work against Kentucky
I think 14 is too many I think Silverfield has a little something up his sleeve it's not over yet I don't think they win the game but I think they're gonna cover I want to take the hog I won't feel that the hogs will stay within 14 Kenan I agree with you Greg let me get the hog okay and then Harold yeah glad for Ryan got the win last week against Tulsa the hogs looking for their first SEC win since they beat Mississippi State in 2024 it's a long time long time obviously A&M having their issues they need the win at home oh my gosh if they were to lose three in a row oh and this one is at home but do they cover for my gosh that they're there may be just craziness on the they'll go down to 11 oh my gosh I'm taking our friend Ryan Silverfield the hogs and the 14 points okay so now our best place one game you pick as your best play
Harold best play Gators Gators is your best play we're Harold okay Eli Tennessee I'm down to between two but I'm taking Tennessee as well Kenan give me my balls all right well good luck to your balls good luck to win the barbecue we differ on three different games so are those games are the Bama Mississippi State game the Iowa Ohio State game the Florida Missouri game the others we are all in a agreement with so have some fun thank you for listening Kenan and thank you for getting in really appreciate you appreciate it guys love you show thank you take care all right there we go that's our pick six for week number five we'll take a time out come back with more here on sports 56 on 105 attention Memphis sports fans we have moved sports 56 is now on 105 FM your favorite shows
the best coverage of everything Memphis make the switch sports 56 on 105 FM welcome back to mornings with Greg and Eli now more of the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl inside college football hour here on your hosts Greg Gaston Eli Savoy and Harold Grader so I saw this during the break obviously Ted Cruz who's backing the Protect College Sports Act he was one of the creators of this bill he's been very adamant that the house will follow what the Senate did and they'll pass the act quickly although we keep hearing that it may not happen until after the midterms but House majority leader Steve Sully said that it won't be the case that the bill likely won't even pass as is again as is what do they need to adjust in this but I I'm so over this Harold yet I I also understand the need to have help for where we are in collegiate sports specifically college football but I'm so
over this holding no wonder nothing gets done in politics in in Washington DC they they can't agree on things this guy's already saying it won't pass well but won't pass and there needs to be adjustments talk to the guys who created the bill can't well and Cruz and then see what they think about adjusting and then go ahead and vote well that's the political process I think everyone agrees something has to happen something has to be done check that box now I've it sounds like we're at the position of okay the Senate passed their version the House wants to make some amendments whether it's about the the expansion the right alignment and I think there's a big story out there yes there's the because of the is it on three that's supporting the ACC schools yeah are mainly Florida state Miami and some others yes they're trying to they don't want to go independent and they're sit out they're trying to protect their ability to move right right and yes because we all expect
there to be movement with the ACC but even where do those schools go and then that opens up the slot which bringing it all back home that's with the university of Memphis is baking on but even if they change that but even if they change that and it appeases the ACC because of their more than likely down the road people think that there could be some teams that exit the ACC the black caucus does not want this past and they have a lot of power they think that the athletes are not being given the opportunity to make as much money as they can that they would be limited they have an issue with that and of course they will go to their constituents in their areas sure in the House of Representatives and say vote this thing down so and he like says right I'm not put words in your mouth but he said it on the air that he never he thinks it'll never pass obviously Salise doesn't think it'll pass as the way it is but again I think adjusting the thing for the future expansion is not going to affect one bit the black caucus wanting to vote it down we shall say so we got
that going on they need a more I this is where like I get I like I agree with Tommy Tuberville they don't need all this other crap in the bill yes right just in the end need the protection to be able to enforce their rules that's what they yes and and that really is we don't have to worry about the expansion of comment like that Congress shouldn't worry about the expansion of conferences that that that should not be a thing that has anything to do with Congress if a conference wants to add schools add schools whatever that that isn't give them the ability to enforce their rules and not be taken to court every time they try to enforce the rules I think that's well stated and you know and that's what the SEC really is focused on is not necessarily breaking away and I think Commissioner Sanky has said this in recent times that they aren't thinking about breaking away quote unquote they just want the ability as you say to be self self governance make their own rules
make their own enforcement and not be taken to court every time they do something okay just reasonable the other thing before we get you out of here is something we've discussed before it's very tenuous situation obviously it has a long term effect on bowl games which of course you represent the auto zone liberty bowl game and that is the possibility of the expansion to 24 teams Ross Dellinger yesterday said it's a foregone conclusion you guys had Heather Dinnich in speaking up the touchdown club this was before that news from yesterday they had the meetings outside Chicago which I think she ended up going to so she spoke before this happened but now in light of what he says Dellinger what Dinnich has said what you're hearing Harold what what is your thoughts right now you know my understanding is and I think the reporting reflects this that as they speak today and in their meetings and right now just to set the framework the CFP is in a 30 day
negotiating window exclusively with ESPN I think that runs out either the eighth or ninth of of October and I think the reporting reflects that right now that only conversation is about going to 24 which I know you guys talked about it earlier in the show that leads to the deletion of conference championship games being made whole and all of that stuff but Heather has a very long recap of of that meeting and I haven't had a chance to read all of it but I did see one quote or it was attributed to an SEC source who said at that that the SEC has not changed its position and that's understandable because that's how they roll that's how commissioner Sanky rolls and as I said this maybe a week or two ago the SEC is an information gathering mode hey let's talk about 24 what does that look like financially can we do away with the championship game are we made whole do we make even more money and just to again to frame it for
folks we have the current number of games in the playoff what they're really talking about with the expansion and that and that added an extra potential money is what is the espn willing to pay for those additional 10 I believe it's 10 games and I know you guys talked about that earlier in the show there are 12 it'd be 12 more games is it 12 games you're adding 12 teams they all have to lose whatever the no I think I think it's 10 but whatever I'm not going to argue over that in this but the money is only about the added games can they come up with can ESPN justify a huge huge huge number to offset conference championship games so we'll see you know going back to going back to Heather this was Monday night she said she wouldn't be surprised if it's it stayed at 12 just was they can't come doing a agreement I think it's a possibility I think that's a possibility but
again even if they don't reach a deal on the entire playoff and I don't know how ESPN would even have the inventory for all those games but let's say they don't want to do it man there are some other entities ready to swoop in foxes ready streamers are ready everybody wants a piece of the college football playoff and I would think and I've said this time and time again I would think ESPN and the SEC would want to do whatever they can to prevent that from happening having the competition get their hands on I'm sure but we'll see the one other little nugget from from Heather's presentation Monday night national champion she thinks the national championship gain will be the SEC she wasn't specific I'll know that would be right there's three or four teams that could be there it's Notre Dame and she says whoever the SEC representative is they win the national championship she says the SEC gets the national track back she knew where she was then she she she knew her audience then she pretty well you know I don't think that influence her no I'm
I'm already kidding I'm already kidding Harold great job thank you appreciate you my friend you bet enjoy the games make sure to follow Harold also on Twitter at Harold greater that's going to do it for us today want to thank Carrie Miller and of course HG for joining us on the program tomorrow it's myself and Jay ham Eli is off tomorrow John Varless will join us to talk about prep football including that big briar crest Christian brothers game and the big news from earlier this week involving Christian brothers in M.U.S. Joe daily on on college football tomorrow at 825 Brandon Lang will handicap some of the big college football NFL games at 925 wolf 10 in a row the game show that is swept the nation again that all starts tomorrow at seven wallow is back it's wallowing friends and it is coming up next for Eli Savoy for Harold greater for Jay ham I'm Greg Gaston we'll talk to tomorrow folks
