About this episode

“For this is what the sovereign Lord says. Why do you need prophets to tell people who you are and what you want? If you can justify everything that the God of the Bible has done, then you can justify any of your behavior.”From the transcript

Jesus is back, he’s on a boat, and apparently nobody told him that “sowing your seed” hits a little differently in 2026. Mark Chapter 4 launches into the Parable of the Sower, where seeds land on paths, rocks, thorns, and good soil... and somehow humanity gets blamed for God apparently being terrible at agricultural planning. Naturally, this sends us spiraling from biblical farming metaphors into Spock’s surprisingly active love life, corn on the cob, and the important theological question: if God actually wants everyone saved, why the hell is he communicating through riddles?

Things get considerably darker when Mark 4:10–12 suggests that Jesus speaks in parables specifically so outsiders might see without perceiving and hear without understanding, because otherwise they might turn and be forgiven. Wait... what? We dig into what Mark may actually be doing here: speaking to an existing community rather than recruiting outsiders, reinforcing the idea that they’re the good soil while everyone else just didn’t get it. That leads straight into one of Christianity’s recurring problems: if an all-powerful God can make himself understood and save everybody but chooses not to, exactly how are humans supposed to take the blame?

Then Jesus keeps farming. We get lamps under bowls, mysterious measures, magically growing crops, and the mustard seed, which Jesus confidently calls the smallest seed on Earth. Wife would like to see his botanical research. The seed imagery also launches a decidedly modern tangent into Quiverfull Christianity, Christian nationalism, indoctrinating children, reproductive politics, and the idea of producing believers rather than convincing them. Eventually Jesus finally abandons agriculture, gets back onto the boat, falls asleep during a storm, wakes up annoyed, and essentially tells the weather to shut the fuck up. The disciples are terrified because, reasonably enough, nobody had told them weather control was included in Jesus's miracle package.

By the end, we're left with Jesus criticizing his followers for not having enough faith, Husband wondering why belief so often becomes a mechanism for feeling specially chosen, Wife accidentally killing an aloe plant, and definitive proof that neither God nor Wife should necessarily be trusted with your seeds. It’s Mark Chapter 4 through an atheist lens: biblical contradictions, questionable parables, religious tribalism, terrible farming, and one pissed-off messiah screaming at the wind.

Welcome to Zachary Letters Discourse. For this is what the sovereign Lord says. Why do you need prophets to tell people who you are and what you want? If you can justify everything that the God of the Bible has done, then you can justify any of your behavior. A lot of this mentality is trickling into what is now mainstream right-wing Christianity. I am capable of empathy greater than this God of the Bible. This is a Bible that they tell kids. This is the Good Lord. This is the Good Book. This is he is fantasizing about murder, mass murder. And over to Zachary Letters Discourse.com right now to find out how to leave a surreview or support us on Patreon. Husband! Why? Do you know what we're doing today? By the fact that you just lost an episode! Well, yeah, we're doing Mark chapter 4. Marky Mark.

Which means that last time we did Mark chapter 3 except except that unless you were on Discord you'll never hear the first version of it. So you'll never hear it? Because I lost it. You lost it. It went goodbye. You know how writers always know that you always save your work and you at the end of every paragraph save and at the end of every page save and save more than one place. Yeah, I didn't do that. Yeah, you did none of those things. That was a me error. That was bad. I was so bad. But you glared at me because I'm behind on researching everything. Yeah. So somehow you not saving was my fault. Because you turn off my whole mojo. It's all off now. But whether or not I'm behind on my research should have no impact on whether you save or not. Just putting that out there. Well, I really think that that's Jesus's job. So I just figured it's not my job. Jesus, take the wheel. Jesus did not take the wheel on that one.

Right. Yeah, sorry, babe. Yeah. Oh yeah. So Marky Mark chapter 4. So last time on Mark chapter 3. Because we haven't covered that bit yet. We didn't get there yet. Go ahead. Okay. Jesus healed a guy. Oh, he did the withered hand. The withered hand. The mother's hand. Yeah. And then he had lots of crowds, you know, join him and then he had to he had to escape on a boat. I'm on a boat. Motherfucker. And then his family came. And he was like nah. Nah. Yeah. And then yeah, there was there was lots of crowds. And there was that's all I can remember off that man. Yeah, that's it. That's you know, that's it. Jesus Jesus. He was called he was gathering crowds and doing stuff that was blasphemous and and you know, I got so high. I got so jeez. So anyway, that was that was Mark chapter 3. It sure is. Fuck what? Which means that now we're getting into. Marky Mark chapter 4.

All right, let's do this. Okay, okay. All right, we are hopping into Marky Mark. Mark chapter 4. It'll never not be funny to bark as Mark. This comes, you know, in the middle of Jesus doing his shit. You know, he's walking around town going don't tell nobody. Right, right. I'm about to be a rebel rouser. Yeah. Rebellion is already. He's already done some of that. Yeah, he's like don't tell nobody. Sure. Okay. Okay. So again, Jesus began to teach by the lake. Okay. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake. He's on a boat motherfucker while all the people were along the short, the water's edge. I think I did that in Matthew as well where, you know, you have to sing.

Who is it that does that song? Island lonely island, right? Yeah, the on a boat. On a boat motherfucker. Yeah, right. Yeah. And it's the one where then T. Ping goes, uh, fuck the mermaid. Right. Yeah. My favorite bit of the classic line. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Were you laughing about that? Okay. Yeah. He taught them many things by parables. And in his teaching, he said, don't fuck a mermaid. I don't think that's not what Jesus said. But it would have been funny if he did. It really, you know, would have put a whole new twist on the, the story. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Listen, he said, I'm awesome. Okay. A farmer went out. Oh, we're going to parable. It's in red ink. It's not what happened. But we're going to parable. Okay. A farmer went out to show his seed. Is that what it says? It says a farmer went out to show his seed. And all I could think is, wait, wait, wait, wait. Is he fucking?

Or is he planting stuff? That's a poorly phrased phrase. That's a, that's a terminology anyway. That doesn't hit well in doing it. It really does. When we talk about people, so in his seed. Maybe he does hit well. I don't know. I mean, okay. So you know, um, people like sowing their seeds. Yeah. We're watching Star Trek Strange New Worlds. We are. And we're in season four. And Spock is on his third girlfriend. My God. He does a player. So much policy. What the fuck? I never knew. I never knew that a vulking could hit it so hard, so often. He's getting around. He is a little slow. Like we all thought that, uh, you know, Kirk was the, the lady's man. I thought Kirk was the, right? But apparently Spock. I thought Kirk was the whore. I didn't know. No, it's spot, it's Spock. Right. Yeah. He's on his third girlfriend. I think. And what's funny is that we know by the end, according to the Kelvin timeline, which is the newer movies, that he's going to get with Aura.

Sure. And also, I've seen ads. So I know he hooks up with her. So we know that by the end, he'll have had, at the end of this show, he'll have had at least four girlfriends. Right. That's a lot for a dry ass Vulcan. Right. Yeah. And at that, I think, well, no, he had the one Vulcan girl. He had the one Vulcan that he wasn't going to, but they're all humans. So like, no, she was a Vulcan. I've meant since her. Oh, since her. Yeah. Because then he had Nurse Chapel was his bestie. Right. And then they hope done. And then Laan. Yeah. Is his little dance partner. Right. And they do be dancing. I think she's human. Isn't Laan human? I'm not sure. But well, she's got. She's humanoid. She's humanoid. Whatever. Doesn't matter. She was, but something. She's like, which means she's probably human. She's robotic Jason or some shit. I don't fucking know. Augmented human kind of thing or something. Not quite sure how all that works. But anyways, yeah, who knew that Spock was out there, quote unquote, sewing his seed.

Right. That's that's how we got there. Sure. Yeah. As this farmer was scattering the seed, some fell along the path. And the birds came and ate it up. We all hate when we're. Wait, say that one more to you. He said what happened? He was scattering the seed. Yeah. Some fell along the path. Okay. And the birds came and ate it up. Got it. Got it. What's wrong with it? No, I was just trying to make sure this wasn't the sexual reference. No. No. Some fell on rocky places where it did not have much soil. It's bringing up quickly because the soil was so shallow. Oh, but it's ruthless, right? Because I'd see where this is going. Then we've already heard this parable. I know. But the parable of the sower, right? It is. Good job. Right. Did you know that or did you see it written at the top? I knew that. Oh, okay. Yeah, I didn't look over your shoulder at all. It is the parable of the sower. Yep. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched and they withered because they had no room. Other seed fell among thorns which grew up

choked the plants so that they did not get green. Still, other seeds, oh, so many seeds going every which way. Yeah. These needs to really be sowing better. Right. He's not a very good sower. Still, other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying 30, some 60, some 100 times. Wow. That's so many. I guess. I don't know. I'm not a sower. I'm not planter. I'm not a farmer. Do seeds multiply? Um, the crop, the crop, it produced a crop, some multiplying 30, some 60, some 100 times. So there's a better crop. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. All right. Then you plan in better soil. It's going to grow better. That's done. Yeah. Right. And that's the whole point of the parable. Sure. Then Jesus said, whoever has ears to hear, let them hear. I have corn to eat. Those are my ears. Y'all, I love me some fucking corn on the cob.

Okay. I know that's way of topic. I mean, he is sewing something. He's so, look, he's talking about farming and crops and planting. And then he said ears, whoever has ears. And I'm like, yes, give me that corn on the cob. When he was alone, the 12, the capital T 12. Yeah, the apostles. The Tucci gang. Right. And the others around him asked him about the parables. Okay. I'm like, why you always give him parables? He told them the secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to those on the outside, everything is set in parables. So that quote, they may be ever seeing, but never perceiving and ever hearing, but never understanding. Otherwise, they might turn and be forgiven. Wait, what? He's okay. So he's basically like, I'm telling everything in parables. Right. Because that way, the people that are meant to hear it are going to get it.

And the ones that don't. Ain't. Oh, so it's a, it's a coded message. It's a quote unquote coded message. Now, what I found really interesting is you forwarded me an email recently from a listener who commented specifically on this that Jesus, particularly in Marki Mark, was speaking in parables that were not actually meant to be taken to heart. Okay. Like as this shit really happened, sure, they were meant to be taken as, you know, parables. Right. The entire book of Jesus. Oh, yeah, well, it wasn't just the parables though. Right. It was the, it was the whole book of. Yeah. And then this, him right here is like, um, to those on the outside, everything is set in parables. Sure. So that quote, they may be ever seeing, but never perceiving, and ever hearing, but never understanding.

Otherwise, they might turn and be forgiven. That that's basically as him winking at his followers. Yeah. And readers who get it saying, if they actually understood what they were doing, they would do it. You know, like if they understood what they were reading, they would actually do what they're supposed to do. So they'd fall, so, so we're being vague on purpose so that they can't kind of. What? And then what the fuck? But also because it's like, basically, if you know, you know. Right. But like, why is he guarding forgiveness? But he's like, not though, because it's so simple. Okay, but he's saying himself right there that it's not. But he's saying it sarcastically. He's saying it like, um, but we've complained about this before. Right? Like if you're going to say something, why don't they just say it? And he's giving us the answer right here. Right. He's saying, I'm not saying it so that it might confuse people.

That I feel like you aren't totally correct there. He's not saying, I'm trying to confuse people. He's saying that if you are reading this and you get it, you get it. But if you don't, it's so fucking simple that that's kind of on you. Mm-hmm. And like what we have complained about is why doesn't he just spell it out? But their entire way of speaking during this time period was in parables and stories. Sure. And so he's like basically turning to the camera, breaking the fourth wall and saying, this is a parable inside a parable. Okay. Like I don't know, but I'm like, I can see that being a thing. Right. That actually kind of tracks. That's very Jesus-y. I mean, right? I guess.

I, yeah. I don't know. So anyway. I just think it's kind of shitty that he's like, some people won't be forgiven because they won't understand. And it's like, well then make them understand. But he's like, you're a fucking god. He's like, I can't be bothered. You're too dumb. Right. No dummies allowed in heaven, y'all. Right. Either that or the innocent, like the so dumb are innocent and free of sin. And so they get, you know, grandfathered in because they're, they're so innocent. You either have to be like so dumb that that's how you get in or smart enough to get as parables in which case you're a goddamn scientist or what the fuck ever. And then you get in the, all the people in the middle. He can't be bothered. I, I guess. I think that's why I think it's a city.

It is, it's a shitty program. Yes. Definitely. That's not cool. No, it's very not cool. Right. I will give you that. So yeah, he's like, anyways, if you know you know, then Jesus said to them, don't you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? Remember, he's always like, fucking shit to his listeners. Right. Well, that's so like his, his fucking apostles can't even understand it apparently. Yeah. That's why like at the end of Matthew, it said they worshiped him, but some still didn't believe, though. Right. Even though they've been given the answer apparently. And showed multiple times. Right. Yeah. He's like, he changed the fucking weather. He walked on walk. I mean, like if you witnessed these things, which one would think that they had, right? Or at least known somebody that did. Brought people back to life, exercise demons, turned bread and I feel like the consensus would be, yeah, this dude's probably got, you know, like, or at least he's super magical.

Right. I don't know. He's got something going on. Yeah. He does glow in the dark at night. No, that's not how I ended up in the Matthew anyway. Nope. They're like, still, I don't know, though. Right. Okay. Anyways, Jesus continues the farm. You dummies. The farmer shows the word. Some people are like see. Oh my god, he is breaking it down. He's like, okay, if you don't understand this, how are you going to understand anything? Listen, stupid. The farmer shows the word. Some people are like seed along the path where the word is sewn. Like I can see him like things. Right. Yeah. Okay, are you with me? As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sewn in them. Other like he's been so sarcastic. I know I'm adding tone that may not be there, but I feel like it's appropriate. I feel like it's a little chit-a-man. Yeah. Others like seed sewn on rocky places, huh?

Huh? Hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they only last a short time. Right. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Are you with me, fuckers? Do you get it? Are you there? Still others. Like seed sewn among thorns. Hear the word, but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Things like not having health care, even though we're supposedly in the best country in the nation. Right. Or the best country on the planet. So what I'm getting here is that God is a shitty farmer of humans. Yeah. He's not sewing our seeds well enough. Yeah. That's the takes away I'm talking about. Bad farmer, bad, bad farmer. Well, I mean, that's the analogy here, right? Like we're supposed to assume that this farmer is just plain seeds, right? And then these people are growing wrong because they're in the wrong places and they're

getting the wrong, whatever. So you put your seeds in the wrong form. So if you're the farmer, don't you try harder to make sure that they're... That okay, you're getting... No, you're getting on something though there. Yeah. You're getting on something. Okay. He's saying that they're throwing the seeds. They're throwing the words every which way. Maybe one or two might... Like maybe some that land in the thorns, 90% of the ones that land in the thorns are going to be bad, right? Right. But one might make it through and that's cool. But I'm not going to waste my time on the thorns. I am going to throw my word out to the thorns, but mostly... Okay. So this was the book of Mark much like the book of Matthew was not intended to win over new people. The book of Mark much like the book of Matthew was intended to rally the crowds that were already

part of it. So he's saying, y'all get it because y'all are the good ones. This was... Okay. Like I know that at the time that we are doing this on our live discord, which we do every Tuesday at 10 p.m. Yes. That by the time people actually hear this produced and put out and posted and published on our feed that we will already have put out our intro to the book of Mark. Yeah. Right? So I know things as I'm recording this that you don't actually know because I... We haven't recorded that yet as of the time that we are saying this. Right. Okay. So I am telling you a thing that you don't know, which is that the book of Mark was actually not meant for gaining new followers. Okay. So that's to answer your question, that is why he's not trying.

They're just rallying the base. Yes. He's like trying to tell the people that are already breaking away from Judaism, from typical standard Judaism in this sect. We are the good ones. We are listening good. We are the good seed. Okay. Okay. So that gets to what you were saying. Is he a bad farmer? Well, no. He's only farming in the fucking people that are going to listen, specifically, like literally. So your question was valid, but it missed the mark because you're like, the why is in Jesus? Well, the answer is because that's not what this book is for. This book isn't for the thorns in the fucking streets and sidewalks. I just struggle with the God that could do anything. Not doing those things. No, I totally agree with you. I totally agree with you. And to me, what I just said further goes and your question further goes to why God can be great

or God can be good, but it can't fucking be both because clearly, like a good God would care about all the people, not just the little crowd of, you know, the ones that are in the right place at the right time. Sure. Sure. So I mean, it's something we've been complaining about the entire Bible because, you know, like he has the ability to change people's hearts, but he has the ability to save them, but doesn't. Right. I mean, there's just so many instances of this and it's more of an excuse for why it's, they're just excuses as to why not everyone follows the same way and it's excuses as to why people die. It's excuses for a million different things that they can't explain. And really, that's all this is just their inability to explain things, put in the end, but still the need to feel like there is something more. Yeah. Right. That's all God is. But anyway.

So yeah, he is like saying the worries of life. Yeah, like, yeah, I throw my seed every which way, but the ones that land in the thorns, the worries of life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desire for other things come in and choke the word making it unfruitful. Sure. So like, one person may come from hardships over there. That's not where I was worried about though. Right. But we will let them in though. Yay for that one person. Others like seed thrown on good soil, meaning, you know, good Christian families, right? The good Christian families hear the word except it and produce a crop. Some 30, some 60, some 100 times what was some? Okay. So we are concentrating on our churchy friends, our churchy Christian friends, and we're making sure that they have as many babies as possible so that they all

grow up to be good Christians and good Christians have more good Christians and then we have an army of good Christians that are all good Christians and they eat the world. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So did you know that there are people advocating to have more babies in the Christian right right now? Oh yeah. Because they're wanting to populate their numbers. Yeah, specifically that's what the that's what the quiverful religion part of Christianity has always been about. It's really terrible. It's not about the babies as people. It's about the babies as weapons as numbers as a voting block as a workforce as sex toys. We can't convince people so let's just indoctrinate kids. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, wow. What a fucking idea. Right. Yeah. It's really grotesque. It's the American way. I mean, it's capitalism at its finest because it takes away all of human rights and makes

the end dollar be the most important factor in everything. Because it's we don't care how we maintain our riches as long as we do and that's why we let kids work in the factory. That's why we your face is like. Well, we don't like kids work on the fact. I was just like, oh, we're in the South. We do and they are repealing laws. Yeah, they are actually producing bills in various states. Florida being one of them to allow younger and younger ages to be able to work like in factories and things got it. Yeah. And there there are still states where 14 year olds are allowed to marry. Sure. And this is why we rich people, rich white men want to be allowed to maintain their riches and they do that by having a child workforce that they also get to

fuck. It's it's wonderful to be white and rich. Right. Right. So anyway, I'm going to carry on because I'm starting to get I rate. Yes. Fucking Bible does this to me. All right. So he carries on. He's like, it's great to be already in the Bible belt because, you know, then you get all the good words that I'm the seeds that are going out to you. Right. So he said to them, do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don't you put it on it stand, you know, where the lamp goes? Yeah. Put it where it goes. For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear. Consider carefully what you hear. He continued with the measure you use. It will be measured to you and even more. Whoever has will be given more, whoever does not have even what they have will be taken away from them.

We didn't really understand all that when we read it before. Right. I think we covered it in a Q&A, but I honestly don't have to cover it again. So yeah, we'll have to cover it again because I still don't understand. When you don't have things, we'll take it away. And if you do have things, take that away, put it. Give more to them. I know we can't. We're like, if we have the moment, I'm still, I'm still distressed. That I erased a whole episode. So bulls, a beds and lamps and stands, like mascara and mugs and earbuds and microphones. Right. What? Okay. So moving on, he also said, this is Jesus talking. Okay. This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man's scattered seed on the ground. Nighting day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seeds, sprouts and grows, though he does not know how, except we know science now. So we do know how seeds grow. Right. Yeah. Isn't that cool? We've got to learn how to grow. There's all kinds of agriculture, agricultural sciences.

Yeah. Yeah. It's pretty cool. For each would like a word. Yeah. You know? Yeah. No, we do know. Middle school could tell you, you know, all by itself, the soil produces grain, all by itself. Okay. Lots of farmers would like a word at this point. First the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. Oh, give you something in your head. As soon as the green is ripe, he puts the sickle to it because the harvest has come. Sure. You know, as you do. Cut that shit down. Right. Yeah. Okay. We have machines for that now, Jesus, just so you know. I know that this is years before you were, you know, apple in your father's eye, your father God eye. I think it's a twinkle on your. A twinkle in. Yeah, not an apple. An apple would be bigger than the eye. So that doesn't really work. Um, he's the, he's the, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. There you go.

Okay. Now you're getting apples and eyes and farmers and sickles. What? Anyway, all right. Ooh, we get the mustard seed again. This is my favorite bit. Okay. Not really. Again, he said, what shall we say the kingdom of God is like? Or what parable shall we use to describe it? Yeah. Oh, no, Jesus. You tell me. It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants. With such big branches that the birds can perch in it shade. I see what you're saying. But have you considered other parts of the planet that have actually bigger? Um, garden plants. Like tropical islands. Sure. You know, well, obviously we're in that area. So we're talking about what they have. Right. It's just that he's like the smallest of all seeds on earth.

And I'm like, are you sure? Right. Have you checked? I don't think you've checked. It's just a bold claim to make when you're when your Jesus making technically, this is just a parable. Right. But when you're Jesus and you're making a parable, and you have the ability to be precise, you should. But the object as we discussed earlier, the object of a parable is to relay a message. I agree. And you can't relay a message if you're talking about something that nobody understands. It's just that it's just that he didn't have to say he could have said, you know, mustard seed is pretty fucking small, right? Like he didn't have to say the smallest of all the seeds on earth. But you got to have that drama. You got to have that magic. Cosmic. Cosmic magic of at all. That extra something. How does he have all that giganticness in it when it's the smallest on the earth? Right. And it grows so fucking big, the biggest of big that ever big, big in your garden. Right. Look at it. It was the smallest and now it's the biggest.

It's magic. Correct. Okay. You're right. You're right. I clearly don't understand and rating at all. So, all right. With many similar parables, Jesus spoke the word to them. That was a way of saying, etc. etc. It's great. It's great. As much as they could understand, doesn't sound like it was much. Right. He did not say anything to them without using a parable. Oh, interesting mark. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything. That's so nice of him to explain everything to the people that already know hypothetically, right? They've already been there in the good soil. Why? We've already covered this. No, I know. I know. They've explained it to the good soil. They're the ones that count. But even some of them ended up doubting. So, like, it doesn't, like, that's not, that doesn't even hold true itself. No. No. I've already said it and I'll say it again. Nobody can ever give me shit for doubting when his own fucking disciples at the very end of Matthew

were like, I just feel like the methods and everything of the disseminating information here are questionable at best. Look, I love a good story and I love a good analogy, but it's got to be good. Right. And it's got to be perfect if you're trying to explain something. I have failed often in choosing the wrong analogies. Sure. And I own that. Yeah. The problem is that Jesus never owns it nor do his followers. He had bad analogies and parables. And nobody ever owns it. And that bothers me. I don't know that they're, they're necessarily bad. They're just like, they're unnecessary. They are unnecessary. You could just say what you mean. Like, we've kind of discussed. Yeah. And furthermore, you could explain it to more of them just your apostles. Like, why would you only explain it to your apostles? Most of this, if I'm understanding the whole Jesus story correctly, and, you know, actually the whole Yahweh of it, yeah, it is believe that there is an all-powerful being,

but worship him always be afraid of him. Never not be afraid. Right. And praise him all the time. And pray, tell everybody else that he talked to you whether he did or not. And they don't think they specifically say that. No, this is my understanding. My understanding is that you are supposed to tell people that you have a private relationship with God or Jesus or God and Jesus or God is Jesus. Right. You're speaking with regard to interactions you have today with people who are really. And when you die, you know exactly where you're going. And what table you're sitting at. And who else will be there? Who else will be there? And you can't wait to see them, even though they don't give a shit about you, because they're beyond such earthly things. Right. Yeah. And that is my understanding of what it means to be Christian.

And I'm like, but what about the part where but be good though? Just be nice. Yeah. Be a decent person. Right. And they're like, oh yeah, those two, I guess. Yeah. Like it just, I don't know. I have problems with Christianity. Yes. That day when Ewanine came, he said to his disciples, let us go over to the other side. Yes, let us. Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along just as he was in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up and the waves broke over the boat so that it was nearly swamped. Yeah. Yeah, they're in a storm. Wasn't Jesus asleep or something? Jesus was in the stern sleeping on a cushion. He'll the disciples woke him and said, him teacher. Don't you care if we drown? Hey, hey, um, there's a big old storm out here. There's a storm of foot. He got up, rebuked the wind, said to the waves, quiet, be still.

Monofucker. Yeah. Monofboat. Monofucker. That's what he was like. Is that what he was like, Pat? Fucking wind. He screaming, waving his fist at the wind and then yelling at the waves. Yeah. God damn you. I'm trying to sleep. Right? Right. Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? And if I were them, I'd be mad. I'd be like, I know I said this last time. We were in a storm. Yes, I was afraid. You didn't tell me that part of your magic was even when we're in a storm, we're still not going to die. Right. How are we supposed to know that? You haven't demonstrated this yet. That wasn't one of your fucking parables. We were just talking about farmland. Right. We didn't know that your miracles applied to whether phenomena. Yeah. Like the whole reason that this part of the Bible is so great is because you're

impacting the weather. And that is how you are proving that you are God because only God can change the weather. So yes, as whole, I was afraid because you had not demonstrated this yet. Right. So therefore, why are you yelling at me and sighing at my lack of faith? Like what? Stupid. They were terrified and asked each other, who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him, the end. It's Jesus. I just, it makes me laugh because we kind of talked, we did talk about this at length in Matthew. How he performs all these miracles time and time again as they recount through these books. This, you know, this book is essentially, Matthew was copied from this book essentially. Like a lot of it. Yeah. So there's a lot of repeat. But they never fail to be surprised at his miraculousness.

Now to be fair, to be fair, this is still the beginning of Mark. So the beginning of the whole Jesus saga. Sure. So they have not seen anybody control weather yet. I'm going to grant that. But spoiler alert, we know in other books that they keep questioning his ability to be miraculous. Right. Even into him being resurrected. Yeah. And he comes walking down the street after having died and they're like, I don't know about that. So it's just the whole story, which the whole story is kind of bullshit. Right. Like you're just manufacturing this story for your own purposes to allow people to feel self-important if they believe, right? Like you're making it, you're making it to where like you're making your followers think that if I believe so strongly that I know in my heart this God is the one true God

or the one three true gods, whatever the fuck they are. I don't fucking know. But if you believe that, right? I'm so much like it's self-importance. See, you're you get this sense of self-importance built up in you because obviously no one else can love Jesus as much as I do because look, I trust. I believe I know. And so it just in place, people's egos to feel like because I believe I am that much more special. I'm that much like it's such a mind-fuck. It's it's a self-fulfilling mind-fuck. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love Jesus. Therefore Jesus loves me. Therefore I am worthy of love and I am awesome. What? But it started with. How does that work? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I just it's just it's just meanwhile speaking of plants, I killed an aloe.

Dead. I did. You did? Yes, I did. I didn't think it was possible, but you did. Well, I took it out of sunlight because it was winter, but it was starting to warm up. And then I wanted it to get some sun, but then it got cold. Yeah. And so I died. Yeah. And I didn't mean to. Wife does not so seeds very well. I am not. Wife is not so seeds of eight. All right, so that was Mark chapter four. It sure is f*** wise. And we will be back next time with something else. Because I don't know what we're doing next. Right.
