Lanterns Episode 7 The Jordan Boys' Legacy Synopsis
Episode Written by: Tom King and Damon Lindeloff
Episode Directed By: Alik Sakharov
In 1975, a young Hal Jordan is punished by his baseball coach for not being a team player. This sets up the habit of a lifetime as Hal won't give up the game ball to the kid chosen to replace him. His father, Martin, is proud of Hal and gives him a key to a "family fail-safe" shortly before he died in a plane crash.
In 2026, the Hal-o-gram refuses to cooperate with John Stewart to help solve the suspected murder of Hal Jordan and forces him to meet with Sheriff Kerry Kane to verify his claims.
Afterwards, the Hal-o-gram suspects foul play from Kerry and insists John check out Hal's storage without her.
Upon opening Hal's vault, they find a portal that leads to another planet, which John recognises as Antaan's home world.
They travel toward an island in the middle of a lake, but John experiences a hallucination created by remnants of a fear-inducing gas within the rain clouds. As visions of his father and his younger self accuse him of being afraid, John points a gun at his own head.
The Hal-o-gram saves John by pushing him into the water. He tells John the story about Hal Jordan's family fail-safe and that both his father and grandfather took their own lives. This is Hal's family legacy, leading John to suspect Hal may have killed himself.
Arriving at the island, John and the Hal-o-gram enter a structure at the centre and overpower Sinestro who tries to attack them to escape the planet.

This is Lanterns on TV podcast industries we are chatting about the penultimate episode of Lanterns Episode 7, the Jordan Boys Legacy. We should go. Rings running out of charge, and once that's out of juice, so is he. Where did you get his rank? Oh, he dug me up. This is about his voice, so you could get into the box in the storage unit. What was inside? I don't know, because he wouldn't show me until he met you. Pretty romantic, huh? Romantic, don't brag about being romantic, Tex. I see what I saw on you. Okay, can we go? Please. Welcome back, fellow guardians to the Lanterns podcast on TV podcast industries.
We are back with the seventh episode of Lanterns, the penultimate episode of the season, the Jordan Boys Legacy. I'm one of your hosts, Derek. And, filling in for a very special John, I am Chris. He is a very special guy. He is very special. He's just not here with us. He was bitten by snakes. Fearful snakes. He was going across a lake, and we fell in. And there was no howl construct, howl clone to save him. No, there wasn't. There wasn't. No, John's just a way for work this week. And we know that next week we're going to be recording a little bit earlier than usual. And Chris won't be able to join us for that one. So we decided, we'll switch it up. We'll have a self-across of this one. Myself and John recorded our thoughts on Avengers Endgame on core in the cinema this week as well. So I've been on two podcasts this week and won three to the guys. And then John will be back next week for the finale of lanterns. It's going to be good. Two bucks, not too bad.
And then of course we'll have our final wrap up episode where hopefully we'll get all three of us together. Totally. Our thoughts on lanterns and of course two and a half. The winner of our rushville redneck pub quiz. Yes. And just because you win doesn't mean you're a ragneck. No, it's just really good. I guess in what a redneck would think. Yeah, okay. It's just a bit of pub quiz. Chris, I think you'd like to go to the pub and take part in quiz. Speaking of which, the third of the question will be available later on in this episode for the pub quiz. If you have missed any of the questions you can pop on our website at TVpodcastindustries.com. I have a post up there that has every question asked so far through our lanterns where you can just basically copy them, fill in the right answers. And email us at the end of the season to feedback a TV podcast industries. And you could be in with the chance of getting your hands on some lanterns goodies. And don't forget when you pop over to our website at TVpodcastindustries.com. You can leave us a voicemail and subscribe on any green blue white lantern podcast player.
Even yellow if you like some extra. But you can also send us your thoughts by sending an email to feedback at TVpodcastindustries.com. Absolutely. But with that further ado, I think we need to get into our chat all the best, the seventh episode of lanterns. Showrunners for the show of course are Chris Mundi, Demolendloff and Tom King, who we've mentioned throughout the series. Two of those showrunners, Demolendloff and Tom King are the writers for this episode as well. So a bit of a touch from an alumnus of HBO DC with Demolendloff, the former head writer on Watchman and Tom King, a DC writer. So this is a bit more comic focused, a little bit more comic focused, I think. And I think also it is setting the groundwork for where the lantern themed DC part of the DCU will kind of go. So I think that's why those two have been picked or peaked for this.
Yes, yes, that's other showrunners. Yeah, I think that's true. What episodes do I want to come on to themselves, I guess, nobody's going to stop them, huh? No, well, you've gone good, but maybe I don't think he would. No, I don't think he would. Chris Mundi might have had something to say about it, but he didn't want them to do it because he's the other showrunner. But the episodes this time was directed by Alec Sakarov. We've mentioned Alec a couple of times. He was, he's directed four episodes, Game of Thrones and season two, three and four, epic director directed, load, load TV, including three episodes from the first season of the Witcher, which we covered here. I think you directed the first two episodes of the Witcher, which got so much claim that show has continued on for four seasons with a fifth one. Hopefully, since it's fully, fully filmed going to appear at some point over the next year or two, I'll be not going to say to have that final season actually air since we know it's be filmed. Yeah, it's one of those ones that's like psychotic versus acne. It's like, we know it's there. Can you just, can you, can you show us? No, no, no, no. You know, they're just going to, like, it's going to be some random Thursday.
And the days, all the episodes. Yeah, but they already did that with the Liam Amsrith starring season four of the Witcher. And they have this fifth one already in the bag for over a year now. So yeah, they've already dropped one season. They dropped the other season to just get it. They could also be just waiting for Henry Cavill to get a highlander. But highlander comes out. That's where they go. Hey, you remember this guy? Yeah, see, he's cool. Look, no, here's the end of his show that he kind of got kicked off of. Anyway, bike. Yeah, but they'd have to guess had we traveled to we film all of Liam Amsrith's scenes. No, they just have to bring him in right at the end. Just don't like they didn't with Liam. Just don't mention them. Change. Just like he just comes in right at the end. Did he? Or he's cavalrying like in Deadpool and Wolverine where he was. He's just another universal multiversal kind of version of Geralt.
It could be. It could be. Anyway, I'll exactly have also directed eight episodes of Ozark. That's where he obviously got his connection with Chris Monday, the showrunner of Ozark. So, yeah, so a well-experienced director directing loads and loads of great television. So great to have my board for this. Intimid and a galaxy spanning episode. Yes. I would that Chris do you want to tell us what they gave us with the synopsis for lanterns episode seven, the Jordan boys legacy? Sure. In 1975, a young Hal Jordan is punished by his baseball coach for not being a team player. This sets up a habit of a lifetime as Hal won't give up the game ball to the kid chosen to replace him. His father Martin is proud of Hal and gives him a key to the family fail safe shortly before he died in a plane crash. Back in 2026, the hologram refuses to cooperate with John Stewart to help solve the suspected murder of Hal Jordan and forces him to meet with Sheriff Kerry Kane to verify his claims.
Afterwards, the hologram suspects file play from Kerry and insist John check out Hal's storage with Outer. Upon opening Hal's vault, they find a portal that leads to another planet which John recognizes as Antan's Homeworld. They travel towards an island in the middle of a lake but John experiences a hallucination created by the remnants of a fever inducing gas within the rain clouds. As visions of his father and his younger self accuse him of being afraid, John points a gun at his own head. The hologram saves John by pushing him into the water. He yells. He tells John the story about Hal Jordan's family fail safe and that both his father and grandfather took their own lives. This is Hal's family legacy leaving John to suspect Hal may have killed himself. Arriving at the island, John and Halogram enter the structure of the center and overpower a synestro who tries to attack them to escape the planet.
The fact that Hal Jordan at least had access to. It was like Azkaban. Spacekaban. They had to get their quota of Harry Potter references into their HBO show since they're coming up their new show next year. We got as many references as Harry Potter in there as we have. You can like it before the right you did what you did. Anyway, we won't be promoting the Harry Potter series or what. No. Yes, we will be talking about our top three moments from this episode. Won't we? We absolutely will. Let's get into our top three moments for this episode. We're going to start off with our power ring point number one. Four. And our power ring point number one is less go of the ball. I just love that we have the flashback that we were expecting for Hal Jordan. But a very tidy flashback to a very specific period of Hal Jordan's life back in 1975.
Where he is playing a game baseball or at least he has stopped a game of baseball from going ahead. Because why? Because the person charged chose somebody else to take over from Hal's position as the I guess they call them bullers in baseball. Yeah, pictures. So yeah, so his coach tried to take him out of the game. I'm trying to put someone else in instead of him and Hal knew better. So he kept the game bowl in his hand and the game and making the team for it says like a pattern that Hal has been repeating all the way through it the rest of his life. Didn't that? Yeah. And well, look, you can kind of understand like four little Hal. He was two or three bases away from a perfect game. He was pitching the whole thing. He was going to be great. And the coach wanted to take him out and replace him with someone else who I didn't think was as qualified and could do it. From like, wouldn't allow them to get a perfect game?
You know what I you know what I love about the writing of this as well just to your porch Chris. And you do believe him. You are at a side. We know how from the beginning of the series we want to believe that he's in the right here. But what he actually says to his dad because I read it down what he actually says to his dad is I was pitching an almost no hit her dad. So an almost no hit her is not a perfect game. It's not the best game of your life. It's not he hasn't had the perfect possible baseball game. He's just convinced he's in the right here and his coach shouldn't have the choice to swap a make for somebody else. And this is a what are they got little e baseball right? There's a young a game. There's no mass of pressure on them here. They're not in the world series. They're not in a huge competitive game. His coach in school is trying to swap a make for another member of the team that also should get some experience of throwing pitches right. That's kind of it. And how's going no I know better. So that's what I why I think the whole team punching how because you want to give the game ball up and them conceding the game to a team they were actually going to beat.
It's why I see the justification from the other side. And then when his coach goes crazy on his father for his father going. But what's the other what's the other kids starts like coach gun doesn't matter what the kids starts like he needs to get the game ball back apologize to everybody. And we need to we need to move along and his father won't let it go. So so they're two pieces of the board. He's convinced that how's right. How's absolutely convinced he's right and once again someone in power tried to take away his job and he was like I have a none of it. Yeah, it is interesting that also like this is the end of the the the league competition like they've gone. So this is the winning they were going to go win the game and win the season. And this is the first time the dad's meeting the coach well. Yeah, so again you're starting to get patterns here and on the surface there's not that much there. But underneath it you can see you do understand that from an early age there's been a pattern of as you say.
And cockiness belief in oneself, but it's a learned pattern from his father from who learned it from his grandfather. So there is a legacy of this type of personality, which also carries over not just to the Jordan legacy, but it's also in the Stuart legacy. Like this whole series really leaning into the predestined kind of the legacy that one leaves with one's father, the not just one's father, but like the mentor, like the next generation. So you have like it actually even comes up really interesting as well when very much later on I'm not going there, but just to kind of point it in, which is where Stuart goes. Sorry, hal goes, did I not teach you about Einstein Rosenthal Bridges? And he goes, you taught me two things.
Yep, Jack and shit. And like again, that's again, it's all about what you've learned from your mentor, your father, your grandfather, blah blah blah blah. So seeing this is, yeah, okay, we've learned where Hal is getting this. Yeah. Fast forward to after the coach scene, we see them talk and they start to talk about the failsafe. This starts to get interesting because you start to hear what like, okay, well, look sometimes people aren't going to come back, be it from war, from the plane, from et cetera, et cetera, although his dad's planning to live to 100. And he doesn't mention fully, he's like, there's some cash in there, some coins, some things, some bits and a note, but everything else, it's not, it's not important. It's not for you to know. And then he transfers over this, the key to his failsafe.
And you're like, okay, it's kind of a lock box. They don't believe in proper will and testament type thing. They is like, okay, it's a what could be in house. And it's interesting because we do know how has one to. Yeah. And so, or you can kind of after this scene, you've making the assumption that, okay, what's in the box? He's continued on with the legacy. Yes, again, we learn what the legacy is later on, but that is the point where he is looking at a son kind of realizing how's quite similar to me now. And that's about time he gets the key to this, this lock box, the thing that I can't talk to anybody else in the world, a beige. My father gave me my key when I was around his age. I'll give him, give him the key to my lock box in case I'm gone and he needs to see this. I love the hell goes shouldn't mom see this and he goes, no, no, this is just purely for our bloodline.
This is for the people in our family because of what's in there. It's our legacy. So, yeah, so there's this kind of transitional generational trauma that they're talking about that's the connection between them. A really interesting opener. I was really surprised to have this as being the flashback. Again, if you watched the terrible green lantern movie, the whole 20 minute opening of that is that is the time when how as a young kid is is worshipping his father as the test pilot, that's exactly the job that how wants to go into and he goes up. Here we don't see much of that at all. We see the two of them watching planes and then we see how his father funeral as an immediate transition afterwards and how throwing in soil into the into the coffin of his father. That's it. We don't get much more of the story of who this guy is until the conversation later on with John. Yeah, it is interesting as well that he's like you need to let the ball go. But he doesn't. So his dad almost is trying to get him to release the problem.
Yeah, so his dad is telling him how to stop the legacy. It's only later that we find out that that that didn't happen as well. Yeah, he went back for the ball. He threw the ball away while they were while they were sitting there and then went back for it after the funeral. So he can't let it go. That is the legacy of the Jordan family. Yeah. Anything else on the flashback anything else on the early days of how Jordan that they're in here? No, not really. Like we we guess I was hoping to see more of the pilot of the Jordan senior because we do we have seen just in the news reel of the dad's jack crashing. But I was hoping to see more of that because I was hoping that that would also infer on how it's kind of how being a fighter pilot like you brought up, which is we see a bit of that while we see a lot of that in the in the Ryan Reynolds film.
Yeah, so I was hoping to kind of almost get a bit more of that. But I think they're also like it's not important. Yeah. He's a lantern. He's not a fighter pilot. Exactly. And we're focusing on the other aspect of that. Yeah. And the story he's told everybody that we heard in that initial first episode, this first couple of minutes of that first episode and the into that how has the story that we've heard about it is that the reason why he has no fear is because he lost a parent when he was a kid. That's the story he's telling the world outside of outside of himself and outside of again, Kerry and eventually John. The story he's been telling the world is he has no fear because his father died or is young. So really interesting one last tiny bit. I love about this is just a transition at the end where we have how throwing in the throwing the soil and the cuts to 2026 with the hologram looking over the grave of how Jordan going. God damn it. So really like that. Really like that. With that, let's get on to our parallel ring point number two.
Because that is the hologram returns. This was our cliffhanger from last week's episode bringing back the hologram. We had loads of theories as to why hologram was back. We were pretty much right. It is John wants to continue the investigation needs a voice of how Jordan to continue that. But he doesn't get his own way at all. It's not as easy as he thought. It's a fun one, but you are really like this is how Jordan you can kind of see the 2016 how Jordan that we were in rush filled with. You can see the beginning of it. That's that cheeky grin. But you can also see the nicer aspect of it. Like the one he was, the green lantern he was back in 19 this is that he's from 2006 or is he from 1996. I think it was 1996, but yeah, I'd have to confirm it. Maybe it was maybe 2006 or I think 1996 was the one that we saw being was 10 years.
Yeah, so he's 2006. I think so he's 2006 because he said when we meet him at the first or second episode on the road, he said it's been 10 years since I've been copied. Yeah. So yeah, there you go. So it's fun to see this character. And it's great that this is potentially how we will continue to have how Jordan. Jordan in this universe throughout the next few years. If John Stewart ever bloody charges the ring stop. Yeah, driving your mental where it's like it starts out with 5% left. We know that charge is a very low charge. And then as the episode goes on, you hear that the hologram is able to listen in and conversations that John is having with other people. He's able to repeat them back. He's able to bring himself back to back out of the ring whenever he wants to.
So how much power is that using out of the ring? It's like, oh my god, just stop. I've got, you know, he says we've got about an hour of talk time left and you're going, well, don't use this on total crap then, you know. But I really like it. I really like the pushback between the two of them, but there are some lovely moments. You know, even when John takes off the ring and puts it out the dashboard, how still there? He goes, how are you doing that? You know, that's really impressive. I can't do that. The Guardians can't do that. That's really impressive. And John's going, kind of taken it back here because I never got any compliment at whatsoever from the actual hell Jordan. So I'm really like that moment, but you can tell there's a great element of the hologram where he's not just willing to be allowed to be used as a tool to do whatever John Stewart wants. He doesn't really know John. He doesn't know anybody that's involved in this. He doesn't know who killed hell Jordan. Obviously, but he's going to do a bit of investigation himself before he allows himself to be used as a tool, which I really like. That's what this is all about.
I love that he goes into the storage shed the first time and then starts playing charades with them. So John can't use his voice on a charades are two words at first word. Yeah, second word off and get outside basically and we like that. Yeah. And for a spit second, you do think it's like, oh, we're going to see what's in the box. We're going to get there. And then we don't. And he wants to see Carrie. He wants to know that this sheriff. He wants that this person who, how was with. So we then are brought to Bushville High. And for the half ceremony, which is nothing we really have in Ireland or in the UK. It is. Oh, we do Chris. We have it in Hogwarts when Harry's choosing what's what placing what what school he goes to in Hogwarts. They have the hand ceremony. So they've replicated this for a college football team.
And that's a young Macon is looking to look at the choose and then does. Yes. So really all you see is signs for the hat choosing ceremony all the rent. I don't know why they have it everywhere. So I from I did check it. I don't know why I would be ever but I did think that like this quarterback, the young Macon, he is the four colleges that they are they mentioning. They are. So they are. Oh, sorry. Navy Army. So they are prestigious Nashville, the Navy. And they're well known college football teams. And him going to be a quarterback on this. He's going to be a big star from their little hometown of one and one people. So I kind of do get it. But it is just that. And once again, the focus on Noah, I am like, OK, we know he has something to do with everything.
Can we just start moving and like, no, you are saving this big reveal for 20 the finale is going to be oh my god, he's has a month under. Oh, no, you never guessed it. Yeah, the focus on Noah and I'll also say the focus on this character Maggie who wants 315,000 dollars and keeps going back to it over and over again, which on it feels like something really important that we should be there. We're all missing at least I can think of a reason why Maggie wants the specific amount of 314,000 or whatever smaller dollars that she wants. But the fact they keep bringing her back and they keep bringing Noah back. And it's not just to add color to the episodes. It's more than that. There's other things about it. There must be something more to it. As I say, the fact that it's a hat ceremony and it's lead it's he's mentioned it before early on in the season. It happens. He stands up in front of every and goes. I want to make you all proud. We all need something to celebrate. That's all go to the match tonight. Watch the match. And then I'll choose whatever the hat's going to be.
But and every seems absolutely fine with that even though they all took time out of their regular days to go to this ceremony for the local kid done good and then he basically said, well, I'm not going to do it. Okay, grand no problem at all. We don't mind taking time off work to come down to the local school to find the set and you're still not telling us. Yeah, there's there's absolutely going to be some kind of big reveal the final episode. But it feels like it feels like they're just focusing on without any real content around him. So on the Maggie one. I the three the three hundred and fourteen thousand blah blah blah. I was like, okay. So they're trying to do pie. Is this pie? And I was like, racking my brain going, is there a pie reference to someone said they really like pie was her. She works in the local dinner which sells pie. I was like, I'm trying to remember. And then on Maggie as well, she has the look of a guard of a green lantern from a diff from one of the comic books. I don't know the character's name.
She has short blonde hair. She wore white and green skirt. Okay, she's well known lantern in the corpse. She's an alien. So I'm like, she there looking after now. Like because one of the guardians have put her there to watch over and is that why she's just messing with John. Yeah. So. But she was a kid. She was the kid that John helped. Yes. And after the big battle in the 10. So because she repeated back to what he said to her. So so we know that was that kid. But as we said before, it still doesn't negate the fact that she could be a man hunter. No, it could also be another man hunter. The whole 10 kids could all be man hunters. We still don't know. But the fact that they just keep pulling us back to them. Whenever they get the opportunity. Then we just don't know anymore. So I guess that's going to be something big next week. So I'm kind of big reveal next week. I do love the conversation over how's grave where the hologram is asking him about the funeral. So last week we talked about how's speech.
And it did it did seem that at some point the how Jordan that wrote the original draft of that speech was pretty serious. He was expecting that there would be visitors from the guardians. He was expecting that there were going to be lots of people there celebrating the things that he'd done for planet earth. And he looks really crestfallen when John tells him no none of them were there. And John tries to cover it over saying, yeah, of course all the lanterns are there. And they did the call back to Mogo, one of the lanterns green lantern, who was a gigantic planet that we talked about early rather than the season. So that was how's way of finding out where their job was actually lying or not. So John's like, yeah, yeah, it's done right beside him. No problem at all. And he's like, he's the size of a plush. That's definitely where it's standing beside it. Stop lying to me. So really love those little calls in. And again, this is something I find really cool. The hologram doing his investigation as he goes along. He didn't ask for carry because he doesn't know who he is. He asked for the local sheriff. It just turned out to be that's the person that was going out with with how I love that after the conversation with her.
He goes, well, she definitely killed me. So throwing another accusation for a potential murderer out there. I do love that I know guilt when I see it. And it did get me wondering, I was like, oh, could you imagine it's her. Yeah, we thought it was her from the beginning. No, I know. No, maybe it's so he and then we went, oh, maybe it's snow. And then we were like, oh, it's definitely John. And I love that even at the end by the end of this episode, how so and I three accusations. And each time he threw the maze, I was absolutely going, of course it is. He went, carry, of course it is. And then he was like, it's definitely John. It is John. Isn't that yeah, definitely. So yeah, there's loads of possibility still. And I think by the end of the episode, there's wooden potential that we hadn't really considered before and that is thrown out at the end of the episode.
And I think by the end of the episode, you're supposed to believe that that one's the accurate one, which we'll talk about in our next point. Yeah, I do like the theory, though, it is carry because if Noah is a man hunter, and how found out. Yeah. And there's no bond stronger than the mother's love. So again, you could that guilt. It's a nice tie back to where it actually end up to be and carry because she killed and she shot how. And that guilt she's that hologram is seeing is because she is guilty from it. And that's because she wanted to just protect her son. Yeah. Yeah, it's an interesting one. I like, I don't know well. I say I like it because it's very human. It's a very human one. I don't know if they'll do that with an intergalactic show. They may go a bit more.
Intergalactic planet, are we? I don't know. I don't know. I think they've been really good at spreading this show. It's been a grounded show that has an eye on the on the heavens and the stars, right? That's what it feels like. Just one. Just one last night. Yeah. One of the grand one in the stars. Yeah, they have that kind of view of this is a space show, but it's not the space cup show. And I think that was the feeling of the Green Lantern movie. They went way too far way too fast, with their establishing characters that you can get behind. I'd absolutely be behind another season of lanterns. Actually, even if Hal and John aren't there, but I really liked following these two characters and I'd love if they continue to pop in an out of another lantern season next season. And you could go a bit more space space. You could go a bit more space cups with the second season. But I think this is a great set up season to establish this, how they fit into the universe a bit more. And just to establish these two iconic Green Lanterns at the very least.
Yeah. No, they will. They will. If they ever do a second season, you never know Chris. Yeah, that's what I was going to. I say don't want to talk about until we talk or wrap up. Yes. I think there will be a few threads left and we won't know until. It's been getting good numbers, but I still don't know if we're going to get an answer. They're massive numbers, but the big problem here is that Warner Brothers has just been purchased by another company who don't really want to do stuff like this. So they're given them every reason to say we also needed a successful show with this company that we just bought to bring in money. And this is one of the biggest rated shows that HBO has had. So they're not, if they're choosing enough to do a second season, it's either because the people involved don't want to do it. Or the people that just bought the company don't want to do it. But the only reason because every other by every other metric, it absolutely should be given a second season.
If that's what they're looking at. No, I just don't know if that's what they're looking for. Final one I just want to mention here before you go on is just a conversation with Kerry and with how I really enjoyed those moments. Got Kelly McDonald is just brilliant in this scene where she's seeing someone back from the dead effectively John had tried to prepare beforehand going this is not how it might look like him, but it's definitely not the hell that you know. And then he just pops up and I don't know where he goes. You're over explaining a kid, but I think he could have she could have needed about another 20 seconds of explanation before he suddenly just appeared there. The fact that he's that she's able to touch him as a real surprise to her. And then just the way he talks through her, I thought was really cool where he's saying to her, you know, we have we have a relationship where I told you about everything. Did I tell you about my father and when she said yes, then he asks, what did I tell you about John and she relates to him this story, this this version where he says, John's like your football team, you share the TV every single Sunday, but keep coming back because you're a big fan.
I love that version of such a good analogy, isn't it? Is this is another sports analogy for for college handler of course, but you have to do it. Yeah, no, I know sister, it was a good one and you can actually understand that I was like, oh, no, no, no, I get it. It's like me in the Saints. Yeah, I can't come back to the, but there she is. I'm the other Panties fan and the Saints are better in the leagues in Carolyn. I don't believe I didn't get a chance to talk about the Ravens and the loss against the way the are co-host John and his loss to the Saints. It was still happening because he doesn't happen often. I should have wrote today that I just don't get a chance. Absolutely. But enough of that football from us. I'm sure there's going to be a bit more football in next episode. We'll be guests that decision from Noah about what team is going to go to because that's the most important thing that Noah has to tell us is not.
Yes, that is the most important thing. I'm going to Navy. Okay. Thanks very much for your choice there. Enjoy, enjoy Notre Dame. Exactly. But let's move on to power ring point number three. Yes, planet fear is our final power ring point. Finally, John convinces how to get him to get in and open up his locker using his voice. Because he doesn't trust Kerry. He's like, this is going to this guy. This girl in it. Yeah. They go. They find a nine Stein Rosen bridge also colloquially known as a wormhole. Yes. A poncho, a bag and a gun. You know, some washer and some snacks for a high. Yeah, it's a good. It's packed every day. It's interesting. That's it. I was expecting more.
And again, we learn kind of we can make assumptions as to why not and things like that as the episode progresses. But this leading then deciding what we can't just leave the wormhole here and go through because Kerry is going to come here. So let's go somewhere. Yeah. I love that they went to the water. Absolutely. Yeah. It's a good call back. It is. It's kind of just as I tend. It's the it was the scene of how and his push. And he was just going to explode. He just farted him away like a tornado wind. And it's an interesting like later when we figure out where this planet that the wormhole takes us to. It's a cool thing to think about as well. But that is it. They are transported as they go through. And we're going to be able to get through this. They are transported as they go through.
And one call that I do like is in terms of the first steps for John Stuart. And he hasn't been off planet. Yes. So he was like ask me if I'm afraid. And hologram was like, what? What? What? It's like ask me am I afraid? That point is enough to kind of he kind of just push him. Given that his momentum to take the first step through the drive. Yes. The drive. Yeah, very good. Yeah, it's really cool. And then interestingly he gets to the new planet asks how has he been there before? And I was like, oh, they all kind of merged together all the deserts outside of LA to me. And he goes, but I feel like I've been here before. And it's actually because he had the images of the death of Antann's planet. And his alien people push through his brain to help them help them find the manhunter.
A couple of times ago. So this he learns this is the planet that they were on. And I think this is really interesting. And again, it's probably because I'm not the most knowledgeable person of the green lantern stuff. But when they were talking all I could think of they were saying, you know, this this gas that's released, which turns everybody on each other, they all killed them kill each other, killed themselves. Because of this yellow gas that was released and all I could think of was scarecrow from the Batman universe. Did scarecrow get his hands on some of the fear gas from this universe? And that's what he uses as a primary weapon that we're going to try and replicate it on Earth. Or am I just thinking too much that it's all connected because it's not as connected as that. Me, not right now, but I think they they it's a way for them to say something like that. That it was like he was working on a thing for Lex Court for something. No, I went tattooing because it's twins twin son planet. I was like, oh my god, they want to do we need you go.
And the melted skeletons all over the place as well, of course. Yes, yeah, because Ann Barou was, you know, everywhere. Yeah. Like dust in the wind. It's interesting. You see that floating city. And I've been curious about that floating to the for the longest time since we've seen it in the promos and trailers. Right. And try to figure out where we're what when how it's an interesting thing to find out that like, well, we're not even going up there. That's not the important part of this planet. Yeah. That it is a flashing blue light over in the distance that they have to get to. And as they get closer, it's then a flashing blue light on an island in the middle of the lake. All interesting. I did like the skulls. Yes. So we did get to kind of understand that the somewhat what their skulls look like of these Indian race. Certainly on human skulls yet. And I'm pretty sure they will use this of some form that these this planet was the birthplace of the red lanterns.
And that's because you can also use that for the longer time. A lot of people have been speculating that Anton was actually one of the red lanterns. Okay. And from the comic books. Very similar because this is how the the the whole story is whipped from how that red lantern was born. And his his basically the rage he felt from the death of his old plan. What? Still them pretty easy for red lanterns. Yeah, exactly. So don't think you're right. I do remember something about about this where Damon Lindelof. I think had said or Tom King had said that they had taken some inspiration from. Yes. That character and because Anton's name began with an A people started speculating. Well, that's of course what they meant when they said inspiration. They meant that's definitely the character from the comics. But I don't know he's dead now. So I don't know maybe who knows maybe they bring him back to life.
All things are possible. Yes. But I so I like this. So the one thing I did want to call it right. So they talk about fear talks and gas things like that. That is what kind of caused the plant to be desembrated. That's what the man Hunter essentially said. Yeah. At least and we know that she said she was going to save the planet. So I'm assuming if it was a dusty planet. Maybe she was like I released this gas and it's going to fix the ozone or something like that. Anyway, we don't we does not not important. What I did want to call it is a marine. A marine sir who served. Didn't think about gas. He's like okay, there's been gas on the planet and you're like no no no no no no you should have been the one like okay. I'm just going to put a bit of a mask here and they're going to tie something around my face. I was like okay. Yeah.
That was the only bit I was like because they get to the they get to the boat. They get on the boat. Yeah. They get start going towards and we'll get to what the whole story in the boat in second. But I was just I was like, oh John come on. That military chain didn't pay off there. I just thought it was just trusted how because how go sticks his head in and then goes no this is fine. It's breathable. Come on come on ahead. Like that's what he says. So you know it could have just as easily his whole body could have exploded because he's out in space. It may have different gravity. So I think he wasn't taking any precautions and the bag that was packed. How was kind of go well that's everything you need. So I do love the call later on when the holograms looking at John going through his experience of the fear gas and going well that's why the poncho was in the bag. He's retroactively realizing why everything's in there. You know you're going to be walking through a deserts or you're going to need water. The walk could take a long time. So you're going to need decision bars.
If the if the fear induced rain comes down from the sky you should be putting a poncho over your head. But I don't know any of this until after the fact so not very helpful. You should have put it on. I do like that poncho though. It was a nice poncho. It's good black. Yeah. It's good poncho. Should we talk about what happens in the mouth? Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. We do have the little kind of running down of the ring power which is why how disappears they have a conversation in the boat and then how how goes away so that they can reserve the power. And what when he goes we get the appearance of John's father in the boat and then John himself both telling him to take the shot in the water. The whole boat is surrounded by what looks like all of the apples that were ever shot off John's head or he ever shot off his dad's head or his mom's head. So it's a really interesting one because this is the fear eating away at John that he is afraid that he is that he doesn't have what it takes to live up to the legacy that's being thrust upon them.
And I didn't notice it. It's only in dialogue from when the hologram saves him that you realize John was putting the gun to his own head at that moment. And if he if how hadn't come back and thrown him in the water, he would have pulled the trigger and taken his own life. Because he doesn't even talk about what it is. And it feeds so well into the Jordan legacy. And the one piece that it is explained the comments from and it's so such a well written choice, which is both how and John are not with they're not without fear. They're broken. Like that's not like being man who can overcome fear and not saying being man who are without fear is not what they are.
They're broken men who are at this point available to overcome fear. Well, yeah. But it's just such a such a powerful moment. Yeah, I was just so shocked when like I was like not shocked. No, I was. Yeah, no, I was shocked. I was like, this is a really powerful moment. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. Absolutely. Absolutely. And you know, there's just that reveal, I guess, from the hologram who we, as we said, we find that earlier that Hal Jordan had entrusted the information to carry. That's how close he was to carry this piece of knowledge that's been passed in generation to generation among these men who can't talk to their partners. You can't talk to anybody else, but we'll pass on to the information to their children or their male children anyway to tell them that basically your part of the legacy.
At some point in the future, you'll take your own life leaving other people behind. And they're more willing to tell their own children. That's what's going to happen to them. Then give them the ability to deal with it and to get away from it and find real help from real people. It's almost this moment in itself. It's too late for Hal Jordan now, but this moment in itself, the fact that the hologram is entrusting this information to John means there's a special connection between the two of them that he couldn't see in life, I guess. Yeah. Like he said, he says to him, you know, you saw Hal Jordan in pain. You, you, why did you travel across many states to come and see a person who didn't even like you saw him in pain? Why didn't you just listen to what he wanted to say because he clearly needed needed the help? Which again is an indication of where the story's going. Yeah, and it's interesting because that does then as you alluded to earlier in our conversation, this is the third suspect. Hal.
Did he, did he do it? Yeah. Is he the killer? And it's a fair point because it goes over what about the gun? Well, Kerry could have done. She's going to take the gun away. Exactly. It's an interesting point because then I, when this then starts to come up, I'm like, oh, that's a, it's a wrinkle in a show where you are talking about everyone's like, oh, this is going to be the man hunters and it was all this. And this is the death. And then it turns out that it wasn't death at all. But Hal had just taken his own life because of the Hal Jordan, the Jordan man, you'll see. Yeah. It's just an interesting, that kind of wrinkled in the story. It really is. And you know, you hear, you hear all the things that are said throughout the set said from the opening moment with his dad, where his dad gives him the key and says, my father gave me that when he went off to war, he had no problem.
He had no fear of going off to war. He just knew there was only two things that could happen. Either he would succeed or fail. He failed when he opened the safe in the safe, wasn't no telling him about the legacy. Here we hear from Hal and Ram. We hear that his father killed himself in a plane crash and everybody thought, well, he's a test pilot. He must have killed himself. It was an accident, which is the story he's been telling everybody else. And the story we've heard before in the Green Lantern history that his father died in a plane crash because he was a test pilot. Well, here it's saying he didn't. It wasn't an accident. And we hear, you know, repeated Kerry saying nobody in town liked him. Everybody wanted to kill him. He spent all his time from the time he finished in prison, which the hologram has discussed it out. How could this person end off going to prison? How could this Hal Jordan that he was? How would he go to prison? He comes back to Rushville, apologized every day and every single day going door to door, but they all hasten so much. The Kerry suspects that anybody could have killed him.
Well, you know, maybe Hal's taking his own life because he felt the pressure of hatred from everybody around him. You know, again, you see that speech as you literally wanted to give us as funeral is that he wanted everybody to be appreciative of him and for his life to matter. And when he died, the only people over there was the future Green Lantern, his ex who hated him, an actual Green Lantern who didn't even know him and his current girlfriend. And that's it. So yeah, is that is the depression of everything that went on that drove how to be his own murderer, actually? Yep. Yeah, it's so. I'm interested to see. I really, I really am. And what I really like about this is even in all that, even if next week when we get a different reveal of who the actual killer is, this episode in itself is so well put together. The way it's written, how well acted it is between these two characters who absolutely are going through mental health issues themselves, regardless of what the outcome is in the next episode.
I think it's a really strong episode of these kind of discussions that are happening between the two of them. Great. And like this, this is where we talk about, like, especially in our discussions on any of the shows. Every now and again, there is a, an episode or of a show that we watch and we're like, you know what this, this is worthy of an Emmy. Like, just the scene alone with this part here. But because it's a superhero show, it will only really get done for, like soundtrack or the VFX or something like that in terms of the Emmys. Very rarely would they put this. So I don't think any either of our stars will get the kudos that they deserve from this scene. Should we talk about the island then? Absolutely. Yes, yes, let's talk about the final movement of the episode. They get to the center of the island. They get to the central building that they've been drawn towards.
You think you're going to find out what it is that's drawing in there, hoping it's a lantern to charge that right now. That's all I was thinking that's what it is. And it might be, it might be this. And it's a nestro who. It's a forward there and semester. Yeah. And he just wants to get off the island. Which is interesting. God for a sake in place. Yeah. So this is really interesting. This is where we get to speculation station. This is just you have synastro. For those in the, with the comic book knowledge, their synastro was a adversary well known comic book kind of villain. Yeah. And is a lantern of kinds multiple shades. So I think they will probably play on that. I think I am in the opinion that they are going to reveal some very interesting pieces that will set up potentially a second season.
Okay. With the guardians and the lanterns and things like that. I think they have to power up John Stuart. And I think that's what this island is going to be about. Okay. Because if we think we have to get back to Rushville to solve Hal's murder. And potentially put down the next generation of my hunters. So in order to do that hologram and John Stuart need to get back to earth. And more importantly, John Stuart needs to become some form of a lantern. So I think that's where they are going with this. Yeah. Yeah. And I think we will be the reveal of who broke synastro out will be a good one. I have a theory. Yeah.
And I'd love to kind of say it. But at the same point, I'm kind of like it might be a spoiler. So I don't know. Well, we don't we don't know what's happening. We don't we don't know what's going to happen in the last episode. Yeah. And as far as I know, it hasn't been even screened. They only give the first seven episodes to press who were reading it. So all speculation, a speculation right there. The only thing I can think of is what we're on a planet. The only person who has access to it and easy access to it is Hal Jordan. So I presume Hal Jordan broke synastro eight for whatever reason. Given that the guardian suspected that his connection to synastro was going to be a challenge for them. But he didn't have his ring. Hmm. But when did he lose that or when did he not have it? I know he didn't have us when he was shot dead. Bush. So he his ring was in on Noah with the guardians. Decommissioned. So that was taken when he before he went to jail.
So I visited synastro in that prison back in 2016. Yeah. Sorry, Zoe the man Hunter was killed by John Stewart sometime after that Hal turned himself in and went to prison. Yeah. But we don't really know what happened between those two. Yeah. Cody have broken synastro right then. Um, and nobody noticed for a while could be or wasn't very recent or I took from the way Garry guy mentioned it. It was a new enough piece. My theory is it is a Liana that the guardian. She wants she doesn't believe in the green lantern court anymore. She wants to build her own thing. She pulls synastro out because she wants her own version of a vigilante. Yeah, the idea that and she's keeping him there. Um, we I think they're building up to that like a lantern war.
Different court absolutely. And I think that's how you can do that. There's a whole thing about fear. Um, we know willpower is powers the green lanterns. Mm hmm. Fear powers the yellow lanterns. And we are on a planet full of fear. And I think that's where we are starting to it's going to be an interesting kind of reveal next. And there was an interesting conversation as well that was had between how and John and the boat and other part of their conversation were. How was asking why John went to went to Rischfeld the visit of me said, Well, a mom called me and told me that you have an apology and he was going, well, hang on. Why would your mom call you tell you and, uh, and John was kind of going, well, you became friends over time and how went, what a thing like that happened exactly, you know, and we mentioned it last week when that conversation had happened on the phone with John that,
you know, there was absolute disdain from John's mom to how Jordan when he was in the highest calling them the, the hostables, you know, she did not like how Jordan at all and she didn't like him at all because he got the ring when her husband was supposed to get the ring back in the day. So how they developed a friendship and how that continued is definitely being set out loud here on screen because that matters. Yeah. Even when she called him in this episode, you see how looking at the phone going, burn it out as that your wife is that your girlfriend, who's that? Um, you know, so I think that's there because it was mentioned quite significantly the first episode that a man hunter can take the place of anybody. Anybody at all, um, while the aliens can look human the man hunter can take the shape of anybody else that you see. So we haven't actually had that at all given a show given that as a basic premise for your villain character that they can be anybody that you look at.
Um, it's quite surprising they don't play with that. Isn't that? That's basically the premise of the incredible movie, the thing, who is the alien that's in our midst, right? So if you don't play with that idea, you definitely shouldn't have decided at the beginning of the season. So yeah, I think you're probably right. So I think, um, Leanna is potentially someone that could be taking the shape of, of John's mom. Um, I think it's a man she's a man hunter. I'm not sure if she's even a guardian, but she did have a connection with the guardians or occasionally the, the man hunter is taking the visage of Leanna. Yeah, or a Bernadass. Um, but yeah, all to be revealed in the finale. Yes. And that is where we end like that is there is so much to go through. I think for me, no matter what, I feel this is very much a Lindelof show in that you can see the mature. Well, when we sat down and we watched Watchmen, we'd said, okay, they've taken something that was an interesting DC property.
They took a superhero show and made it. They took some very interesting heavy topics and threaded through a and put it in a world where comic book lovers would love. So that's where I see that. Tom King brings some amazing story from just the, he, Tom King is the main comic book writer. Yeah. So I think that's where his finesse comes through, which is the more fantastical superheroic evidence. But for me, Lindelof is the, uh, I can see his fingers over a lot of it. Yeah, it's interesting, you know, that the, the initial discussions were apparently with Chris Mondi, the showrunner for this show. He was asked to come on board in the new DC universe as, as the showrunner for true detective as the showrunner for Ozark. He was asked to come in and see what kind of story he wanted to tell in the universe. Um, he came up with this idea, um, for the show, uh, layered in with the knowledge of Tim of Tom King as a, as a DC alumni.
And Demi Lindelof as a showrunner of, of amazing shows, including things like Lost and, and the leftovers, you know. Um, so I see, I see that all of them working together really, but I feel, I feel Chris Mondi's fingerprints on this a bit more. Um, you know, some senses of, of Demi Lindelof and Chris Mondi can be similar, I suppose. Um, but it doesn't feel as mystery box like, um, the, the, the Demi Lindelof one where I always feel like we're never getting an answer to the, to the mysteries that are set up in a Demi Lindelof show. Uh, to the fact just in case you've never seen the leftovers, it's one of my favorite shows. Uh, they changed the theme tune to that show and the theme tune to the show was let the mystery be, uh, was the actual, uh, what they wrote in when you watched every single episode you had somebody seeing at you. The mysteries, just the mystery, forget about it. Just watch what we're, what, what drama we're providing to, whereas I feel Chris Mondi's working towards delivering on the mysteries. Um, so I think that's probably why I feel a little bit more on, on what he's, what he's delivering here and the Demi Lindelof's adding being a very well, um,
seasoned showrunner for shows and Tom Kings out in the DC layer, because apparently Chris Mondi didn't know very much of a comic books when he came into this universe. So, yeah, so I, you know, they're all working together very well. Yeah, I'm delivering a great show. Um, but I just remember we, uh, we did over, uh, praise Demi Lindelof for his contribution to watch when I turned out most of the right, which is room with the ones that wrote those episodes, rather than the Lindelof. Do, do, do this is me slowly, once, pulling away from the, uh, mic. Well, that's where we leave it for our chat all about the lanterns episode seven. Really looking forward to this finale next week. Be sure to episode this, this week, but it was a very heavy one. So it felt long as the rest of the felt around that error level. Uh, I think it was about 45 minutes, um, including credits, but it felt heavy, uh, definitely. Read. What any final thoughts on the episode Chris? Not really. I'm very much, I kind of got most of my bits out as we kind of discussed everything. I am very happy with how the show has progressed.
I'm very happy with the overall kind of each episode has given a answer to a degree of something, um, proposed one or two more. It's good at high ending on those kind of cliffhangers. And this house set up and interesting. Okay, well, for this final 50 minutes, 57 minutes, whatever we're going to get, how are you going to land this plane? Yeah, baby. Let's, let's not talk about, um, landing planes, uh, when we're around the Jordan family legacy. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Or will the, uh, Jordan boy it up? Let's see. Let's see. Uh, what about yourself, do I have anything to add? Anything you want to bring out? No, really enjoyed it. I'd love to give John Scorer. He did give me his notes, uh, for the episode, um, and all I can read is, uh, five out of five, how leaks, I should five. Okay. That doesn't make sense. I don't know what the hell leaks is. So I'm obviously, um, misreading his writing, but a five out of five, uh, from John, for this episode.
Yeah, it's a, it's a leaky, it's a leaky house. We all have atoms. When you get older, those leaky house. Yeah, yeah. Um, I was only, tidy notes that I have for the episode was that I was slightly annoyed, um, that this episode opened in 1975. Number one, because I was bored in 1976, but also because it really frustrated me that every episode has been 2026, 2016, in 2006, 1996, 1996. And then I went back to 1975. Why, why could there be 1976? It doesn't make sense. I'm sure maybe it's because you can't do literally at the year that how would have been. They tell would be everyone there later. We don't know exactly. I don't think we have an exact age for how to maybe we maybe we'll see. Maybe we saw it on his, on his tombstone or something last week and they went, oh no, we have to put it in 1975. Or maybe everybody was watching Star Wars that summer and nobody was, uh, playing little league. I don't know. I don't know. Um, but yeah, just a, just a little, a little of no hints that every year has been 10 years apart, and this ending of the six and for some reason that one was 1975.
Um, there you go. I think we need to drink after that, uh, that, uh, final discussion on, on this episode, Chris, let's get down to the Rushville redneck bar for the quiz. Yes. So the question number seven for this episode, what is the number of how's unit at the fortress of storage? We really liked that name, uh, for a storage company, Chris. Yes. It is a good one and it's on, do people know about the fortress of solitude or is it just a fun callback? Well, yeah, yeah, we talked about it last week that it's, uh, that it's from Superman, which was that's the big central moment in Superman last last year. So, uh, nice little touch on there. And we didn't mention in the episode that the, uh, that the, uh, key that's how had left behind had the bird on it, which was effectively his connection to John. You, uh, that something, um, was down there, which is just because I think it's a thing. So he always knew he was going to be sending John down to the fortress of storage as well, which is quite cool.
Yes. So that's it. That's the seventh question, Chris. Do you want to get the question one more time? Yes. The question is, what is the number of how's unit at the fortress of storage? You can get all your answers together at the end of the season and send them to feedback at TV podcast industries dot com with the correct answer for each episode. Put in and you could be in with a chance of getting your hands on some lantern goodies. Oh, yes. Absolutely. That's the place you send in your emails to as well for your feedback. And you can also join us on our Facebook group at Facebook dot com slash groups slash TV podcast industries with a spoiler post up there for every episode of each show that we're covering. And you can also go to our discord that he says, which are in these show notes for this very episode. Speaking of feedback, let's get into our feedback for, uh, for the episodes. And we have some feedback in from Richard Blaze on last week's episode. It came in a little bit after we had put out the episode. He says late to the party on this one as dip-dip to watch resident evil. I quite enjoyed it. Nothing story wise related to the games, but some clever nods and weeks if you know them.
Anyhow, I feel this is an episode that's building to something bigger where you're going to get to. Guy is an utter douchebag if people still use that term even more so than his appearance in the very poor Superman film. And speaking of douche bags, Billy clearly given up defending people and taking the road of smacking people a base. To be fair, if I lived in that town, I'd be pissed at the lanterns coming in and destroying my utopia. Carry on how, is that an upgrade from Billy for carry? How being locked away obviously allowed him to time to connect to this feelings? John not willing to kill how last week, but quite happy to dig his corpse up and nick the ring from his cold dead hands. How people change in 10 years. Possibly the first episode that's more filler than killer, but still great to spend time in this universe. Thanks Richard and hey, very poor Superman film. That's a discussion for a different podcast, but whoof. Harsh man. Yes, Guy is I think we can still say the term douchebag. I think we can. Well, like we're old. So I don't think the kids, the hip kids will be saying is, but you know, we can put in a six seven douchebag and then it kind of brings it in.
The kids say six seven are about 28 now. But I think anybody would understand what a douchebag means. How about that? Yes, the people aren't using it. They definitely know just looking or just spending two minutes in the company of Guy Gardner. You know what it means. But yeah, really good love that love that the flag of last week was John taking the ring from the cold dead hand of the corpse of Hal Jordan. But not for the reasons that anybody thought he was he was literally doing it just to solve the murder that was that's his his agenda, right? Yes. Good stuff. Thanks so much for that Richard. I know we have your thoughts on this episode coming up, but moving on to our next bit of feedback is on episode seven of lanterns from Marie Chris. Yes, we had this to say look forward every week to your lanterns podcast. I first found your podcast during a brother Academy also found some of the boys have to admit I wasn't sure about lanterns at first.
I decided to stick with it when I saw you were podcasting about it. So thank you, gents. What I'm loving is how I have no idea what is going to happen next with a lot of the shows. I at least have an idea or expectation where it's going. London keeps surprising me. I did think John wanted dead house ring. Then thought I was wrong when he buried him so glad he dug him up just so we can have hologram. I was worried that Guy Gardner wouldn't fit in on the show and they made it work. I grew up with super friends. So that was my only green lantern experience. I really appreciate your comic book info. Was what was happening on the show plot for one of the comics? Do Hal, John and Guy all live together in the same comic? From the latest episode I am wondering did Hal put SNES show on Anton's planet? But how wouldn't had his ring then? Right? So many things to think about. What I really wanted to say is thank you for your podcasts. You guys are great. If you hadn't been covering lanterns I think I would have given up on it.
I'm looking forward to the finale but sad the season will be over. Thanks again Marie from Pennsylvania. Thanks Marie. Great to have your feedback and so great to have you back from all the umbrella Academy fund from the the our boys podcast with all of us and then when the boys covered Sanman such a good show and shame we won't be getting more of that. Hopefully we will get more of the lanterns in the future. In terms of your questions about the Hal, John and Guy yes they've all they're all lanterns in the same comics they're all green lanterns. And they've well Hal Jordan was the first one John then came in Guy Gardner came in in the 90s when they tried to make it cool. No. No, Hal wasn't even the first green lantern. Oh, sorry. Hal and Scott. But he's there too. No, he's been recondiser too. He's not really a corp green lantern. He was a green lantern with his own lantern and it was a bit more magical and earth based.
See, okay, I just fair fair fine. And John Stewart came along in the 70s when they specifically were looking for for a more diverse cast in the comic books. They didn't have didn't have very many black heroes and they wanted to bring in a black hero in the comic books. So they brought him in the 70s Guy Gardner came around in 73 I think or 74. But was a background character for many years until the 80s when he came along as a more central character. And yeah, he's had some big stories, but he is usually the goofy background version of the green lantern. But there's been thousands of them and I think right now or around around the kind of re emergence of the universe there was at least eight lanterns on earth. I think at the same time. So this initial set up that we had in the series of there being one lantern who dies and the ring goes to the next lantern. That's the only lantern that's around. That's kind of the original story from from how how Jordan became the lantern, but that's changed over time.
And then we just over time to the point there were a couple of thousands green lanterns making up a whole core of of of of protectors I guess. Yeah, yeah, and they bring in they bring in Kyle who is my green lantern. I'm so happy if he gets a shout out at the end of the amazing. So it's really interesting really mentioned about super friends because that show never really made it to Europe at all. I don't remember ever airing on any any any time when we were kids at least. It was something I think that eventually was released on DVD over here or was available on some of the cartoon networks, but it was never something that we saw as kids over here at all. Very limited limited number of channels and kids were treated with lots and lots of cartoons to watch. So we never got never got super friends. So again, that's probably where experience of green lantern is pre limited. Yeah, no it is, but thank you so much for the feedback, Marie. Absolutely. Also on email we have our feedback in from coffee and vodka who says greetings fellow mind bender defenders very much a part one of two closure not much to say until next week's episode still a great setup with a generationally damaged father and son theme one more week for stranded synestros,
groupie gateways and accusatory wanters out of five feast and take care of coffee and vodka. Thanks coffee and vodka. Yep, it is very much a part one of two and it is a penultimate episode before the finale. You're right, it like the generational damage father son theme was great, great setup. It was a strong setup for how they're going to play these two broken ex lanterns. Well, can you call John on X lantern if you only ward for a few minutes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, there you come. Thanks coffee and vodka. Absolutely, thanks coffee bucket. We also got some feedback over on Facebook from penny Linux who had this to say I'm sure I'm not the only one to experience next level anxiety at the reality of only 5% charge remaining on the ring. Every time hologram popped up, it just added to my intense stress. Yes, penny, I am the exact same. I have never got my phone down to 5% like it is my right now it is a 47% and I'm not sure if I can do it.
But even that's like, oh, it's going to be charged at some point. You would hate my life at the moment. The thing to plug in my phone broke about three and a half years ago. So the only way I can charge my phone is to lie a flat on a an external charger. I can't plug in the phone anywhere. So they don't bring that with me. My phone dies. And I have to charge my phone twice a day now because I've had it for about six years. So yeah, so I very, very often get under 10% and have the warden is flashing up and then it's like we are slowing down your use of everything at the moment. It will be it will be dead soon. So yeah. So I understand the feeling, but I get it very often unfortunately live in life in the edge. Oh my god. Oh my god. Thanks so much, Patty. Great to hear from you. Yes, thank you so much. Let's move on over to our discord server. First up, Richard Blades gives a thought on this episode. He said, so penultimate episode always seemed to fall into two camps for me. There's the Bulls out action episode that leads the finale to clear up all the story arcs from the season. Then there's camp two where it's frustrating, slow-paced one that drags the episode out for as long as it can so that the finale can go all in.
For me, this week's episode hopefully fell into camp two. Don't get around the dynamic between Hal and John and Kerry at times was fantastic. I'm not tired of these interactions, but just felt a bit too like a dull side quest to travel from A to B to C. Then back to A again. Really hope they can land the last episode next week and don't leave too many threads open and unanswered. It should be a shame if this series ends up a damp squib. I'll agree with you on that. I really hope the series doesn't end up with a damp squib. I think I'm have really enjoyed the episodes a little more than you have throughout the season, Richard. But I think they are driving towards an episode that does have to answer a lot of questions and does have to wrap up a lot. I'm intrigued to see how they do it, definitely. Yeah, I'm with you. I'm ashamed that you're not enjoying it as much, Richard. But I have high hopes that this is going to land the finale. I don't think it's going to be the damp squib as you said.
But even if it does, it was a good seven episodes. So I can't as a whole of a season. I'm like, yeah, in a one episode, you can't land a plane this fine. Because then they can just say, oh, it was all a beige. How it was there? Not being able to land a plane. Not being able to land planes. Definitely from these last two episodes. But thanks, Richard. We also got some feedback from Joe Herpes to add this to say, I expected half flashback, but I thought it would be longer. So good. Seems like a lot to wrap up in the next week's episode. I wondered how much we'll get pushed till the next season. Though has it been officially renewed? Nope. Nope. Not at all. In addition to the mystery of Hal's death, Sinestro, if there's another manhunter, etc. The big one will be will John have a recharge working ring by the end? Yeah, there's a lot. There is a lot to wrap up. And I think they'll probably land a lot of it. I think there's just the points that they'll kind of hint at for the impossible next season.
Or they'll do something because again, we keep forgetting this is now a connected DC universe. So potentially we'll have Sinestro in... Yeah, they could put him out tomorrow. ...tomorrow next year. You never know where it's going to go in the universe. But right now, we haven't had an official renewal for lanterns. It would be great to have that. But even though there is a page, I think already on IMDB for the first episode of season two, we haven't seen an official renewal yet. So let's find out next week. Toot toot. Great stuff. Thanks, Joe. Oh, just cruising in some feedback from Paolo, which came in just after myself and Chris recorded last night. Paolo says, I agree with Richard above. This was a frustrating episode. The Sinestro reveal at the end didn't really compensate for the lack of more answers or maybe just clues for where this thing is all going. Sinestro cannot be how's killer like I was thinking last week, but I'm left with not many other theories of their manhunter maybe. Things I liked, the portable hole, okay, portal, remind me so much of the DAD magic object. The hologram being impressed with Jon's ability to keep it running without wearing the ring.
Surely this means Jon will be a lantern eventually. Things I didn't like, the Harry Potter island at the centre of the lake. The missing lantern to recharge the ring. It gives me anxiety. So overall, I was disappointed and hope the final episode will resolve a few things. No scoring this week. I'd probably be a bit too harsh. Thanks, Paolo, for your feedback on the episode. Yeah, it's a guess a bit of a mixed reaction to this episode. I hope our podcast out of a couple of other things to be a bit more interested in. I knew they squeezed in another Harry Potter reference that I didn't notice the Harry Potter island. That makes loads a load of sense. But yeah, great moment there with the hologram. Finally giving some kind of compliment to Jon and him being really happy to get a bit of a compliment. It's an important moment for the two of them. Great stuff. Thanks, Paolo. I'll hand you back to the other bit of feedback that we got in and talked about last night. Finally, we had some feedback in from Paul Tenshi Lee who says, I'm enjoying what appears to be some mid-story episodes of another arc that can possibly be wrapped up in one finale, even if they make it two hours long.
Great to see Kyle Chandler play a less dickish jaded, tired version of Howe and I love how the hologram is acting like the kooky, but fair trainer that Jon wanted. I can't tell if it's deliberate that the hologram doesn't seem to remember his deployment by the water terror in 2016 because it would have caught at least the sight of Zoe. Also, all the kudos to Kelly McDonald for portraying like five different emotions on meeting the hologram. Finally, a theory about where Howe might have gotten the Goobull Einstein Rosenbridge, I think he got it from Anton Stash, or perhaps even from the last member of his team. There's at least one on a candidate for a driver from their time going to the ranch. He could have gone to Anton's hide-date in Co-City and found the Goobull there. If he collected other alien tech as a lantern, he could have hid stuff on himself while in jail and facilitated Stastras escape and located to Anton's world. I guess we got lots of stuff to find out next week. Thanks, Paul. It's great feedback there. That's a really interesting theory that potentially all Howe had to do was just hide a black Goobull on himself when he went to Britain.
Then he might have been able to walk in an age of prison whenever he wanted to. Where would you hide the black Goobull though? I don't want to answer that Chris. I have an answer, but I'm not going to answer. Yep, yep. Prison Wallet. I think we all know exactly in your prison wallet. And with that said, thank you so much to all of you for your feedback. Thanks so much for setting it into us. Thanks for watching along. Keep setting in your feedback. We will be back with our finale episode, episode eight, Dirt and Stars next week. We'll be recording next Monday, but we will be doing our wrap-up episode with the final pub quiz questions answered after that. So if you do miss the deadline to get feedback in for the final episode next week before we record, keep sending it in so we'll talk about it on our wrap-up episode as well. And just remember to subscribe to all of our feeds by heading on over to TV Podcasts and she's duck-com. Because you can make sure you do not miss any of our upcoming shows because we will be covering the one and only Vision Quest.
The end of the Wonder Vision trilogy, can we call it that now? Yeah, these are truly great. They're saying they don't do second seasons of shows and then went, oh actually, here's three seasons that all make up one show. That's what we planned all along. It was Agatha. So yes, as Chris said, you can subscribe over to TV Podcasts and introduce duck-com to the podcast. You will get our Avengers Endgame on core chat mostly about the post-credit scenes because well, we've already done a podcast about Avengers Endgame and there wasn't anything brand new there. So come over and have a listen to what we thought about those extra scenes and how they connect into Doomsday. If you've seen the movie, if you haven't got to see the movie, big recommendation is if you've never seen an iMacs go see an iMacs because it's a great film. And nothing's changed up to the end.
So you just get to watch a great film in iMacs. So yeah, a really good one. Yes, definitely. Definitely. Thanks so much for joining us. We'll speak to you next time. Yes, thank you so much for joining us and remember, fellow Landers, keep watching, keep listening and keep shining your life. Bye. Bye.
