About this episode

“In this episode of the NBA Draft junkies podcast, we are going to talk about North Carolina's match April. Because every year, there's a freshman that shows flashes and comes back as a sophomore and has a breakout season.”From the transcript

Matt Able showed enough as a freshman at NC State to put himself on the NBA radar, and a strong pre draft process only added to the intrigue before he ultimately returned to college.

Now the sophomore transfers across the state to North Carolina, where he'll play for former NBA championship coach Mike Malone and have an opportunity to turn last year's flashes into consistent production.

Rafael and James break down Able's strengths, concerns and NBA projection, while James explains why he's particularly high on the UNC sophomore and believes the consensus may be significantly underrating him entering the season.

Could Matt Able become one of the biggest breakout prospects in the 2027 NBA Draft?

In this episode of the NBA Draft junkies podcast, we are going to talk about North Carolina's match April. Why? Because every year, there's a freshman that shows flashes and comes back as a sophomore and has a breakout season. And James is going to explain why he thinks Matt Able is that guy up next on the NBA Draft junkies podcast. Yo, yo, what is up? What is up? Shout out to everybody that is tuned in on a Thursday night. I think NFL football is going on, but the WNBA playoffs are going on too. Yeah, I'm kind of half got that on right now in the background. You know, got to support the ladies, but yeah, I know you were watching it. James is a huge, huge WNBA supporter, but I forgot to introduce myself.

If this is your first time listening, I'm your host, Rafael Barlow along with my brother, my main man, my dog, and Barlow. And this is the NBA Draft junkies podcast where we have no agenda. Man, we just talk hoops, whether it's the NBA Draft, Grass Roots, International, Spriggle, and a little bit of NBA, but you know, we talk NBA. We mostly want to talk about guys on their rookie contracts. I think there's enough NBA coverage out there, but man, this is a show we do every night, 10 o'clock central. We want this to be like the news. We want you to say, man, I wonder what those dudes are talking about tonight every night at 10 o'clock. So with that being said, man, how was your day? Of it in the rain. I was driving around in this rain man and then, I mean, if you're watching, listen, if you see me making that face, man, I'm trying to hold these sneezes back. The weather changes, man, my allergies just start, you know, the sliders go up, but other than that, man, I'm good, man, how are you? You got to get tough, man. She like me, I'm built from a different,

I built from a thugs ingredient. So I have to be out of musicians. I don't have any. I took an allergy test, bro. And they like prick you with all this stuff to see what you're allergic to. Man, my skin was looking like killmonger from a, from from black panther, man, I'm allergic to everything outside, but you know, game don't stop soft. All right, let's talk about Matt Able. This is an episode you've been wanting to do for a while. You're a big Matt Able fan. You were talking about him a lot at the combine. So why do you think North Carolina's Matt Able, a guy who transferred from NC State last year, which I think it should be, I think it should be like illegal to transfer from rival schools. And I know North Carolina State is not North Carolina's biggest rival, but to me, it just looks, it just looks weird. Maybe it's the old school in me like there's certain schools you should be able to transfer from Michigan to Michigan State,

Arizona, Arizona State, Duke to North Carolina. I mean, anybody go off from Duke to North Carolina or vice versa. I'm infacitious here, but to transfer like within state, within conference, it's a little odd to me, but that's where we are. The game has, the game has, has definitely, game has definitely changed. So it makes me sound like a old born, but anyway, tell us why you're so high on Matt Able and why you think he's a breakout candidate. Well, you know, I was very, very much moved by the combine performance. On top of the solid freshman season that he had at North Carolina State, on the team that just looked like a bunch of guys out there trying to hoop, Booty Ball was definitely in play at North Carolina State. We talked about Darian Williams. Quadir Copeland is a Booty Ball bandit himself and Matt Able came off the bench and he tried to, you know, get in high if it is. So, as a freshman, come on, man. Booty Ball bandit, oh man,

dude, let's go back down, back down. Like I get it, you know, Booty Ball works, but Matt Able came in as a top 20 recruit, goes North Carolina State. He plays behind, what's the shooter's name in North Carolina State? Paul McNeil, who, you know, start very good shooter. He's a guy with NBA buzz, but in 22 minutes for game, Matt Able averaged almost 9 points, three and a half rebounds, less than one assist. He shot 35%, 36% really from three. And it was interesting to see him test, and I think he did it right. He test, see what it looks like, see what kind of feedback I get, go out there and play, and then you come back and try to put position yourself for a strong sophomore season. I thought he played extremely well at the combine, and he showed you that obviously the jump side is good, but he has just enough off of the dribble, not necessarily to create for himself, but his creativity off of the dribble comes from

you chasing him off the line. So, he's not just a standing corner guy, though he will do a lot of standing in the corner, but you chase him off the line. I do think he has enough athleticism, enough ability to put the ball on the ground to make a play for himself. And he's an improvement as a playmaker, but he's not selfish by any means. I just think that he has put himself in a situation transferring the North Carolina. He's going to play without a doubt, that's a really good passer. Terrence Brown is going to command a lot of the attention offense because he's about his buckets. So, Matt Able slides in and should be the third in usage on this team. And I think he has a chance to average double figures for what we think is a very good North Carolina team, at least on paper. And my whole argument, not necessarily not just for Matt Able, and then I really not against Braille and Mullins is that I don't think there's a wide gap between the two of them. So, that's why

I'm high on Matt Able, 65, 195. He gets very good defender in the passing lanes, has really solid frame. I think he's a good athlete and he can really shoot the basketball. My question for you is, how do you think he can improve his draft stock on a team that should be even better than the team he played on with NC State with more NBA prospects? Well, the style of play should, well, what we assume will look a lot different. Like, I don't want to say North Carolina State was selfish, but there was a lot of guys out there that didn't necessarily you know, the pieces didn't always fit. They played two point guards, right? Transverse Michigan State with Derek Copeland is a big point guard at 66. Then, Daring Williams is handling the ball a lot. And then, Haysian kid, he transfers from North Carolina to North Carolina State.

Lubin played the five Paul McNeill was a movement shooter like they had a bunch of guys that kind of like filled the same, you know, role. I think there's more role clarity at North Carolina. And again, he played 22 minutes for game at average almost nine. If that number jumps to 28 minutes a game, then he should be at least a 12 point per game score. So I definitely think that this is going to be a better fit. Like, you know who's playing point guard for North Carolina? Whereas, it's a lot of dollars. He's going to be the one that's going to be decision maker. Terrence Brown is full time point guard. In the half court. Yeah. But at the same time, like, he's going to be a table setter. Terrence Brown is trying to score. He is going to score. Like, he is the kind of guard you put next to a dialis say, I've dialis, you set the table, you create, you know, do you think do your thing in pick and roll in the half court? And Terrence Brown is

going to be the dude that you know, you run him off the actions that him isolate. He's going to play some pick and roll as well. So I think playing off those guys is also going to be from Able. More so his role in the NBA where I'm playing off of guys. Not necessarily a picking roll creator, but you know, shoot pass dribble guy. Sure, you're scouting report. I know you kind of did it a little bit, but just like your raw notes and your scouting report. So for Matt Able, I think he has really good size as a two while the assist numbers don't really reflect it. I think he's an unselfish player. I think he's a good athlete. Very much so a shooter. I think there is some potential off the dribble, but he's a much better athlete with a runway than he is in traffic. And, but he does shoot floaters. And I do think he has potential as a movement shooter. Merk and line of state use him as a screener a lot. Said a lot of those go screens. Obviously that's definitely an NBA staple where you know, the guard comes up either off of a pin down. Says the fake screen flares out

for a win catch shoot three. That should be you know, easy money for him. He can shoot. And I think he has a really quick release according to my notes. Each of our 36 percent on jumpers, including 45 percent on guard. Ratchet is real. The problem is he only shot 49 percent on lips. And like I said, I don't think that I think finishing is going to be his biggest hurdle, especially because again, the athleticism, he's a full head esteem to be the athlete to showcase his athlete. He's not going to be like a really good athlete in close quarters like a George junior who is an athlete everywhere. But you know, I like that even though in 22 minutes of the pregame, he had a 20 percent free throw rate. And he shot 36 percent from three on the season, including in he shot 54 percent in shots were three. So yes, that's a high number. Yes, that's to 10. Excuse me, trending more towards the specialist role. But again, you chase them off the line. It was shoot the floater. And you kind of saw what it looked like. What it could look like with NBA spacing at the common. He got

layups in the half court. There were times where you know, the common did feature a lot of point guards, but he brought the ball up the court. Not saying he's a secondary playmaker, but at the same time, he's not Jordan Hawkins, Duncan Robinson, you don't really want him handling the ball. So I really like it. Like I said, I think he's poised to have a breakout season. Yeah, my scouting report is pretty simple on him. It wasn't, you know, one of the scouting reports was just tons of bullet notes. I just put that there's real upside as a movement shooter. I like the shooting stroke. There is some shot making ability there. Like there's some plays where you're like, okay, he's got a little something off the dribble, but he's he's good at attacking closeouts and getting to like a floater. Maybe not the guy that attack a closeout and get all the way to the rim all the time, but he's got like the attack one dribble pull up attack one dribble floater. His free throw rate is pretty good for a guy that shoots. I want to say like what would you say? I know more than half

of his shot or three. Yeah. But he still gets to the free throw line at a pretty good rate for somebody who's trying to shoot three. But again, chase him off the line and get to the basket. Just he struggles the fence, but go ahead. Yeah, I think it needs to get stronger. I didn't like the finishing numbers. Like if I were a team scouting him, I'm really trying to chase him off the line. Oh, 100%. Yeah, trying to get him to to finish in traffic amongst the trees. We'd like to see a little bit more playmaking and passing at least be a connective passer or a ball mover. But overall, like he's a guy that you know, you go watch his film, like you just said, that's NBA player right there. That's that's what NBA player looks like. The production was good for the minutes. I mean, I think if you ramp it up, you could easily see a guy that averages 18 points per game. The shooting was good. 35% from three. But that's like below NBA league average

right now. I think I was just 35, right? 35, 36, depending on the year. But so right now, if you look at the concerns are, and I mean, these aren't like deep concerns, but the concerns are if he is a guy that shoots the majority of his shots from behind the line. And he may project as a specialist, I want to see specialist three point shooting numbers. Getting young. Yes, plenty of time. But it's hard for me to say, all right, a guy that shot 35% from three and is a guy that struggles finishing in the paint and traffic. Is he a specialist? Like what happens if this year he shoots 36% from three? How does that impact his draft range? I think you're shooting 36% from three after two seasons. And you still project to be what a

75 80% free throw shooter, I think you're a shooter. It's the guys that are shooting 32% from three that you were like, I don't know. I have questions about 36% at 1920 on, you know, that kind of volume like I'm buying him as a shooter. I don't again, it's going to come down to when we chase him off the line. Can, can, does he have enough game where we chase him off the line? Is he going to be efficient? Like I said, while he did shoot 36% from three was 45% on guard it, right? And that's on the team that, you know, the playmaking on that team was good. It wasn't great. You put him in the NBA. Matter of fact, I got a comparison for you. Max Christie shot three. He's going to be the one that I, okay, how about I say, I have a comparison statistically, not stylistically, statistically, from their freshman year. I'll go ahead. Max Christie shot 32%

from three is freshman year at Michigan State. Max Christie, who we think is going to start for, well, could be, he's a rotation player for the Dallas Mavericks, right? Max Christie, last year with real volume shot 40% from three. He shot 36% 24, 25. Basically, he's a 39% shooter from three. That was after shooting 32% from three as a freshman. Like I think Matt Able can fill that same role that a Max Christie provides in the NBA. Yeah, you definitely got to project up. So the guy that I have similar thoughts or concerns about was Jacobi Walter. Like Jacobi, when he was at Baylor, shot, he came in with a reputation as a shooter and he shot about 34% from three, but he got to the foul line quite a bit. And then his rookie year, I want to say the numbers were solid from three within he shot 40% from three last year. He has a rookie shot 35%

from three. He had three and a half of a test for game. And then last year in year, two, he shot, I'm around up to 41%. So the projections were right. Now it's just, you know, let's see if Jacobi Walter's a guy that's going to be able to hover around 38, 39, 40% from three. Well, Max Christie one, I can see that. Do you think he starts? Like I think absolutely. But I, you know, I like sometimes media day kind of drop hints. There was a media day picture where I want to say Reese's Shay will start. Oh, man, man, I saw Reese's a dribbling the ball and transition, man, he looked like a little kid, man, that ball was so wild. Man, he flipped dribbling by his shoulders. I mean, yeah, but they've been showing especially I follow a lot of French media. They've been showing the play where he came down a lane and dunk. It's been on my timeline.

Yeah, transition. Yeah, man, he's doing super high, man. You're not tricking me, man. But nah, I think, like I said, I think that in real life, like Matt Abel is in a better situation. He's on a better team with the fine roles. And, you know, again, we assume that Mike Malone and NBA coach is going to put his NBA caliber prospects in position to make it to the NBA because it's the recruiting gang. Like, hey, if Mike Malone can say, man, in my first year as an NCAA coach, I have four first round picks, you know, you go home, put your put that on the table, that kid that you're recruiting on this coffee table and say, man, come on, man, get down our lane now. We have four first round picks my first year, you know, you know, to get four in the drafts, that even means this draft is really, it doesn't, we don't care. Lina ends up being like, those Kentucky or Duke teams that just, yeah, I can't, I want that option. I can't say that

happening, but I think there are four guys who are NBA prospects, yeah, that you could put in that range in this class is wide open. All right, I want to talk about some numbers. I'm going to pull up cerebral. So if you're listening, I'm going to have to read this out. I'm putting up the graphic. So rebro sports has this five metric suite, Pierce going prowess, floor general skills, three point efficiency around the room, defensive statistical impact. So, you know, they graded by PSP and Pierce going prowess, which is basically balances scoring production and efficiency to identify the strongest Pierce scores, the FGS, which is floor general skills and measures passing, decision making, assist creation and perimeter disruption. There's the three point efficiency, which combines three point volume and accuracy to basically tell if you're a shooter or not. And then there's around the room and it captures finishing rebounding, rim protection and overall

impact around the basket on both ends of the floor. And then there's the defensive statistical impact, which combines possession level metrics to measure disruption, deterrence and total defensive impact. So I want to see where Matt Able ranks. Uh oh. Uh oh. So let's see what the numbers. Oh, I didn't have to mention if you're 90, you're elite 80 plus is great. And if it's above 60, you're good. So let's see what Matt Able's at. And the Pierce going prowess. He's at 54, floor general skills, 47, the three point efficiency, 74. The graphic is wrong with the measure goals. I apologize. The around the round 56 and defensive statistical impact 82. So what are your thoughts on this? We're just pulling out some numbers. Does the eye test match the numbers? Yes. I at 1000% agree.

So if I were if I were if you showed me this chart and I didn't know what the chart the numbers were. And I'm like, okay, basically defines what I just said. Like at the rim, he really struggles the pure scoring process. You're talking about a guy who is I'm pretty sure it's weighted by him, you know, making threes and getting to the file line. Again, I have questions about him as a floor general three point efficiency. I'm told you, man, I think he's really good shooter. I do think he's going to be an impactful defender, especially like playing the passing lanes, getting stills. I want to say like a 3% block rate as well. So like these numbers match what I see when I watch Matt able play. And, you know, again, it's going to be interesting to see how you compare some other guys who are shooters in this draft or who have similar roles as far as borderline specialists slash is he a basketball player. But I agree with what three bro says. And I do think

that the biggest improvement area improvement for him will be the around the at the excuse me around the rim and the floor general skills. Pure scoring process. I'm not I don't really have an issue with that again, but again, I think he'll improve on it, but his biggest like, okay, we really got to get better at the floor general skills on the round the rim. So I got the graphic up again. If you want to read what the acronym stands for. All right. What do you think about Mike Malone and how he can impact Abel's game? So if I'm Mike Malone and I'm like, all right, Matt Abel, you know, you flirted with the process last year. I thought he had an opportunity to be a late first round pig, but obviously, you know, you look at Malik Thomas, who was a second round pig should have been the first round. I thought Matt Abel, I mean, I thought he was better, I say Evans. I would take him over as a Evans, but that's just me, no disrespect to the new keys out there. But you say, okay,

Matt Abel, I'm going to put you in a KCP type of situation KCP's a champion KC two time champion, you know, what is he just got to be your what 13 14 for KCP and say, you know, well, movement shooter, we don't have Yokeh obviously to to make those looks easier for you, but we get you some movement plays, we get you to defend at a high level, make plays off the drill for yourself and others. KCP 14 year career, the white kid, who, who doesn't want a 14 year NBA career? That's that's what that would be myself. No, is that the sexy name that you want? No, but at the same time, like, who cares about those names? Let's look at career earnings. Let's look at, you know, what these people have accomplished. Look at tenure in NBA. So that's what I would do if I were Michael and I sit down with each and one of each one of my guys and say, Hey, here's the blueprint. I've been in the league for a while. Let me help you get here, but also we're going to help each other because we're going to win games. How do you think he can go in this draft? Again,

it's wide open. So to me, there's really not a wrong answer just because, you know, a year ago, at this time, somebody would say, Keen Wager was going to go top 10. You would have been like, who? You're crazy. So what they say, he's playing well in camp too. So I mean, you know, is it probably not a hard hit in the way you're ready to say? Who's practicing? Right. He's been killing, he's kind of an exhibit team guy. It's cool. But no, I think for Matt Able, the shooting, I don't expect it to drop off, right? Well, the shooting maintains, the defense maintains. I think the scoring output would be, you know, higher again because of more reps. But there's a world where if he shows you more, if he finishes better at the rim, shows you more playmaking, top 20, top 25 pick in this draft. And while, you know, you may say, oh man, if I'm a top 25 pick, I'm not coming out or whatever, I get it. But the 2028 draft is a lot stronger. And again,

if you show your improvement from freshman year to sophomore year in a draft where I feel like 90% of the guys are role players, my eyes will come out. I think he's a top 25 pick. Not to say at worse, but I think like his, his ceiling is a top 25 pick. If he shows, he can do more than just knock down, not just knock down shots, but if it's just more of a, if he's a knock down shooter, finish is better than you should be a top 25 in this draft. I spoke with an NBA executive about him a couple of weeks ago. And he mentioned that now the lights are going to be on them. Like last year, the lights, even though he was a highly tired recruit, but he didn't have the same buzz as some of the other guys in his in his freshman class. But now after having, you know, a good freshman year, the way he played at the combine. And now he's at one of the blue blood schools. We're going to see how he performs when the lights are on him. All right, let's get to some of the comments. First of all, I apologize for the wrong height and weight on the graphic,

man. It took me so long to put that graphic together. And I think I just uploaded the wrong bird. You had more to the Coleman, uh, Lansing. I started talking about Husky ball. Yeah. Yes, I apologize for that. All right, some of the comments are I'm scared to say my song is Lovelively poll. Okay. I said, that's good. Well, I was just frustrated with that and then in the true name, that's OK. And I'm just going to talk about what's great about that last year. A lot of people should think about that for a while after building a trailer. Telling me that it's not hard, let's say, um, let's say, uh, Well, I was pretty confident that we are What's wrong? Let's say, uh, i don't know what it's going to turn to let the road as Jay J. Rowman, we just we just reply. So it doesn't look like I said or you said it, knowing right says, able has a better situation this year.

My opinion, Jay J. Row again says he might have snuck in the first round last year if he stayed in that something that James has been saying since since the combine. He played there. Yeah, I was there. He played really well at the combine. I talked to his agents and they were like, man, he, you know, we thought he was going to play well. He's on the fence right now. And, you know, I think there's a war. I mean, you know, you know, disrespect to Alex Keriban, but like if I'm picking, you know, if I'm on playoff team and they trade up into that spot, the Kings did, but if I'm on playoff team and I have a couple years for roster development and, you know, he's a guy that I would have taken a long look at. So my question is for the people in the comments, and you, if you would have taken him in the late first last year, who do you bump off? Like, who's the guy that was the first round pick that you were like, I would have taken him in the second round. Because Malik Thomas fell to the second round. So I had Malik Thomas as a first round grade. I had Justin

Jefferson as a second round grade. I believe it has Zubia as a second round grade. But again, they were top 35 guys, 35 and 25. Obviously, you see this really, the only difference is you're getting, well, not even that to guarantee contract, but you just hear your name call him that first day. But there was somebody else, I'm drawing a blank right now. But yeah, Zubia, Justin Jefferson, care man. It's probably care man. Yes, care man. I had a second round grade. I think I don't call him a reach. But I thought taking him in the first round was he was going to be here in the second round to me. But, you know, hey, you shot the acts, care a bit. They guarantee contract. But yeah, I thought that there was a world where I liked him more than I liked they said at the end. And some people, you know, I say Evans fell to the second round. And there were some who thought that, you know, he was the first round talent. But yeah, I, I, you know, he played with the combine. But at the same time, we look at the combine like camera car, he

dominated. I thought he was going to be a late teen spit. And he falls to the lakers. But at the same time, like, you know, sometimes the situation is just great, possibly co-op, he, nah, man, I was, I was, I'm a co-op, he fan. James a co-op, he fan because James things co-op, he can play point forward. Okay, you'll see. No, rats as he thinks able to reach for one more year or even two, not a bad thing. There's a lot of money. He comes. Yeah. If money is your motivation, yeah. Oh, that's another name. Dale, Dale LaRia, it's a day LaRia, I always mess up with me. Dale LaRia. Dale LaRia. I had to stick around. I'm to him. Did I late first? Next, you know what, him going to the man, I think I had him slide at that spot. Not because I knew somebody that worked for a man. I think that they were just going to take a point guard. I was gone by then. All right. So give me your season predictions for Matt

Abel. What type of production do you think that? Yeah, I'm just put you on a spot here. What type of production do you think he needs to get into the lottery? Because I feel like the lottery. Yeah, I mean, this class is wide open. And I think with this been a wide open class in the way, I mean, maybe this whole NIL thing changes. But you know, there's a lot of people that if they're not in lottery range, that means I'm going back to school. Man, I definitely get that team through 20. So, okay, for the 20. Yeah, I definitely get that. But like, I just think that this 20, 20, eight draft is so much stronger than 2027 that again, everybody who we're talking about, they're not all going to be first round picks. That's just the nature of the business. But when we're talking about, you know, going back to improve your style, I think it

gets tricky. You know, it can get tricky is what I'm trying to say. I mean, like again, best case scenario was, you know, yaks, and then I want to say worst case scenario, but like look at the bearing fight line. He falls after having a great season. He did everything you asked him to do any falls and then he just falls into a situation where we don't even know how much he's going to putt. But for Matthew A. Will to say, you know what, if he's a late lottery grade 14 through 20, if he's a 40% 3 point shooter, which isn't really out of the question, but he's a 40% 3 point shooter. He averages 13 points for game shows you the rebounding and the steals number and a positive assist eternal ratio. Again, a team is going to look at him and say, all right, 65, about 200 pounds. Good to great shooter, improve finishing at the rim. I know what I'm getting in him. Let me take him 14 to 20. But I think if he made a huge leap as a shooter, which I, again, I don't rule it out. And to me, it's

no different than like Ray LaMollins. Mullins shot what 32% from three last year. There's a world where he shoots 38% from three to 40% like that's not how I think these guys are really good shooters, but you know, they did shoot as well. Mullins didn't shoot as well. You thought he was. So, but not think, you know, 13 points again, there's a, there's a world where Matthew A. was a second leading score for North Carolina behind Terrence Brown. Just kind of depends on, you know, how it goes. But yeah, I think he does all those things 14 to 20. He come back. You're in a great position. Who do you think will be the top score at North Carolina? It's going to be Terrence Brown. I don't think that's the debate. He's the situation. He could be their leading score, but their fifth fifth that's prosper. Yeah. He was six maybe because he was six. Oh, no, I like maximum more. I mean, you're out of your sense. So it could be, it could be able of dollars, Kada. Or do you like Simon Duroff at all?

Has anybody prosper? I'm still doing my research as far as my buying with this year's next year guy. But yeah, I mean, yeah, Terrence Brown is what? 22 23. He's automatically going to get tax for that. Then, you know, he's a six one shooting guard. And you have to be godly to be a six to shooting guard, combo guard and NBA. They got him at six three. Man, I saw that dude in person. Man, that's okay. Again, the chain was icy. The Louis bag was Louis, like, you know, make that money, young man. But I think he leaves a team of scoring. I mean, he averaged really 20 again last year. Yeah, you do. I did. Do the two. Terrence. What a ho. I watched him once. It was maybe I watched him play against BYU. It was a game against BYU where he really caught my attention. He's got a great story, man. I think he was five, nine throughout high school.

And he went to four of them. Obviously, he got loose there. Then the transfers up to Utah, leaves him in school. I mean, you know, as bad as that team was 20 game in the big 12 is still 20. Yeah, he's got a great story, man. Yeah, I think crazy. I saw the video. He had the full of sleep. He was like 16. Like, he was going to be a ball player, man. Regardless. Yeah, I think Utah had, I think they had one of their bigs got hurt and they didn't have any depth. And then once that big guy kind of messed them up. But yeah, man, this Terrence Brown has got average 19 and 20. Pretty much back to back years. He is the proto typical college shooting guard bucket scores 15 to 2000, 1500 to 2000 points throughout his career. You know, these kids move a little differently, but has a long overseas career, just getting major buckets like I like them. Athletic score. Like he

that's that's what caused that's what is to me. Shut out to everybody in the chat, 347 people are watching live right now. How about here's a question for you. I'm going to play devil's advocate, right? Let's say, and I kind of alluded to it earlier, let's say the shooting doesn't improve. It stays the same. The sister turnover ratio is still flat. And the finishing at the realm is about the same. Do you come out or do you just stay in school? Because it's like there's the situation where you can stay in school, right? And you can get the money. But then you can improve and nobody notices. And nobody really, really cares because you stay too long and they're on to the next thing. So what happens if that's the situation? If the shooting remains the same, the playmaker remains the same, the finishing remains the same, but the average is 13 because he's playing more

minutes. I'm still coming out. But do you think there is a real chance that he could be their third option? Yeah, again, I've dial us last year. Here is 11 on a Virginia take team. I'm not not rolling with I've I was going to play point guard is shit, right? And I'm not certain about that. He's going to handle it. Who's the point guard? He's the only point guard on the I want to say on the tennis Brown is not a point guard. But I think of dollars as playing point guard this year in the NBA. He's a playmaking wing off of that. I think Mike Malone's probably going to put him in a position to where regardless of what position you're going to put him in is going to that's who he's going to be in the ball in his hands. Yeah, the ball is going to be in his hands. And I think naturally, unless he has it going of dollars, I think it naturally, he wants to make plays to set guys up. And that's okay. That's going to work for

him at the college level. He's not going to have to be overly aggressive now. When he hasn't gone, you know, you get these out of balance out of body experience with May's well been out of body experience when he drops 40 something on Providence. But like who he is to his core is a playmaking, you know, call point guard. And that's going to work for him in college in the NBA. I don't think that's who he is. Terrence Brown, we know is about his buckets. They paid him a lot of money. He's going to get paid. He's going to have Terrence Brown. Strong chance he leads the ACC and scoring this year. We'll be the top five score in the conference this year, right? So I think Matthew A. Will again, increased usage more minutes is a 15 point per gang. He gets to the foul line. He makes free throws. I mean, he gets to the foul line and he makes three. So off of the strength of just having more minutes alone, he should see his production go up. And again, if he is nothing but a play

finisher in the NBA, a spot up guy standing corner guy, then if that's who he is and that's who he is, it's still the top 25 pick in this particular draft. Go ahead, Rob. I think those are all valid points. But I could also see, and I mean, for his sake, hope it doesn't happen. I could also see a situation where he's just limited to just being a corner boy and it kind of watching in the NBA or in college, in college. I think that only happens if again, so you're not playing through saying on K. The right, this not Henry Vesar there. Right. If Jerry and Stevenson starts, you're not playing through Jerry Stevenson. He's not Caleb Wilson, right? Yeah. So you look at that team and say, who has a history we've ran offense through at the collegial level is Terrence Brown. Okay, Terrence Brown, we ran offense through him. He scores 20, but not on good teams. Right? Okay, we saw Virginia Tech, Nealco

South Dallas, he struggled at ACC ball. They had to bring in somebody smaller kind of relief some of the ballhead and the pressure from him. Naturally, he wants to, if he's the same player of Dallas, I'm not trying to get to the rim. I'm kind of avoiding contact. I'm setting guys up. Matthew Able, like you mentioned before, we talked to the executive. You're going to have a bigger role. You're going to see more action from him instead of just say go screens. You're going to see more, you know, movement shooting from Matthew Able. I personally, again, I said it before, I'm starting Max on after four. And you know, I'm starting Max on before playing four out. And that way, Siahankade is going to have his opportunities to, you know, be a rim roller. But I think if you start that lineup, you have no disrespect to James Stevenson for shoot pass durable guys in a rim rolling bid. I think that's your best bet. And again, maximal rebounds. So, you know, I think it'll be fine. Now, the end of Thursdays where you're like, ah, you know, we're playing Duke and they got Boone, Jay Boone, Jay playing the

four or a Gungba. I mean, at the same time, I'm attacking Boone, Jay Boone, Jay into the perimeter. I don't think he wants to defend another perimeter. But that's the whole other conversation. Yeah, that's a whole different conversation. So you're going with an all freshman front court, or at least a freshman four or five. Yeah, why not? Best case scenario year for Able. Best case. 15 points per game. Five rebounds. One to one assistant tower ratio, we shoot 40 for 40% from three. We get better at the rim. We're talking about player selected 15 to 20 in the strap. If he returns to school for his junior year, and there's not in the top 20 considerations, what happened? What went wrong? Um, the lights were too bright at North Carolina. And I don't think his shooting is going to fall off of a cliff, but he's just a specialist stand and again, you know how I feel about specialists, like the Jordan Hawkins type where if you're not

making shots, what else are you doing? That's who he is. And he went back to school for his junior year. You keep getting these checks. And you know, maybe we'll get there after four years. Sounds good to me. What about wraps up this episode? The comment are you about the the Lakers in the comments? Yeah, I'm trying to think this thing to. What happened, man? I see a camera car, man, I look up, I see joggers talking about Luca and Anthony Davis, the whole chat in the comments is about the Lakers. League wants the Lakers the way I've seen Chris Paul Chris Paul talking about the league is rigged for the Lakers. Who cares about the Lakers, man? They rigged for them. Yeah, so funny, man. What are wraps up this episode tomorrow is the big Friday episode, we do the basically the weekly roundup, we got to talk about Zeeland Rens signing the 200 to 200
