We've learned anything from these past couple of years. My fellow Americans, is that personal medical freedom and liberty are in crisis. America, our Lord, Pulse brings together the top experts in healthcare-related fields to keep you a beat ahead. Well, hello, hello. This is Dr. Angie Ferrella and you are listening in on the Pulse on America out loud. News. And I'm going to tell you this. Please, please, please love and share this podcast tomorrow after we are broadcasting because there is some amazing information that is going to be thrown at you here today. I want you to take note of it. I have an amazing guest known for a couple of years now. And we keep bumping into each other in different ways. Which is really cool. And I'm going to have our share or story with you as
well. But we are kind of going to be on the tailwind of one of the broadcasts I did with Dr. Catherine Welch not too many weeks ago. So if you listen to that one and then jump on this one, it's going to be a nice little blend into it. And also there's a lot of future stuff that you're kicking in and doing too. So I'm really excited to introduce to you Dr. Melanie Crite Walker, right? Walker. Yes. I always mess up about last night. I don't know. I want to make it more exotic or something. My head's. Everybody does. Those damn hyphens. Doctors with hyphens. That's why I kind of like didn't bother to have mine. But um, but you know, you're here. We're here at the the Amph conference, which is the Association for Medical Health Professionals. And this is one of my favorite conferences, honestly. I mean, this is not even a medical conference per se. It's mental health, but I can tell you I learn something every time I come here. And every time I come here,
it's I just bring more nuggets home to use for my patient population. And one of the things last year, you did an amazing job last year, where you were talking about the trans community and D trans-ishers. And you guys had transition D trans-ishers. That's hard to say really fast. Here at the conference, and it was mind blowing. And it was so, I think it was really important for people to hear their story. You've been working with them for quite a while. You are a surgeon and you're actually a pelvic surgeon. So you know a lot about those kind of stuff. I know where your heart is. And just explain to my listeners like a little bit about your experience and your backstory. And then we'll kind of go into like where you are now. So I'm a urologist and a fellowship trained pelvic reconstructive surgeon. So I came through fellowship back in the day before there were trans fellowships. So I learned to reconstruct the entire pelvis. My particular
fellowship was called female pelvic medicine. But in reality, that was just one small just one small aspect. It was it was operating on men as well, you know, for for pathological issues and I mean, stricture disease and fistulas. And so it wasn't just exclusive to females. That was, you know, that was the name given to it when they merged with the gynecologist. So so I you know, I did I did a you know, traditional pelvic reconstructive fellowship for both sexes. But I went into private practice and was in private practice. I was cruising right along until COVID hit. And then when COVID hit, I knew I was probably going to be out of the job because I was I knew unequivocally I was going to not take the job. And so that turned out to be the case. And two of the hospitals for which I had privileges said I couldn't come back anymore because I was
a danger to the patients. But oddly enough, I wasn't a danger. I was I was a danger as a doctor operating on the patients. But I was not a danger just a week before the mandates took effect. I was not a danger before to actually have my gallbladder taken out to be a patient and actually have my gallbladder taken out. So something happened, I guess, during that week that that made me a danger. But but I digress. You just want to point out the ridiculousness of these rules that were put in with zero background zero zero scientific evidence. Correct. Zero anything. We're going to give you a new rule that makes zero sense. Let's do it. Correct. So I was in as I said, I was in private practice and I was able to find a hospital in town that did accept my religious exemption. And I found two surgery centers. So I could I could continue to
operate and I sustained with my partner for a year. But the problem was I couldn't take call. I could handle phone calls for my practice, but my partner was always on backup because I couldn't go into the hospitals for which our patients would go. So ended up dissolving my my practice and just started doing some contract work. And during that time, you know, had joined had joined the medical freedom fight and had gotten to know some individuals and was starting to see a rise in transgender ideology and specifically where I was at the time in Portland, Oregon. I really saw just a really significant uptick in kids and adolescents identifying as something other than male or female and going down the road of transgender ideology. And it was really being pushed hard. I remember seeing the the advertisements on Facebook, you know, Facebook groups being out in the
community seeing advertisements for, you know, transgender clinics and things such as that. And it was really, really being pushed hard to the kids. And, you know, Portland's motto is keep Portland weird. And it just seemed like it just kept getting weirder and weirder to me as far as you know, seeing this transition mentally that was happening. Now let me let me just stop you there because as physicians, both of us are physicians. You would think that if there was such a thing, and I hate to say it this way, but this is just how it's going to be. If there was a thing that was going through society, right, where people were really born in there and I have, you know, my air quotes going on, born within the wrong body, that this would have been something that we would have seen when we trained 20 years ago, 25 years ago, right? But it kind of just showed up on the
scene after 2020. Yes. And we saw a little remnants of it. I saw remnants of this when I was in training in Kansas City, Missouri years and years ago. That was the first time I ever saw someone who was really, it was an adult, it was an adult male that wanted to become a female. But obviously had very, very major psychiatric problems. I was doing a psych rotation and this person wanted to be called candy and you know, all the things, right? So change's name, the whole thing. And it was just very unusual for me because it was so obvious that this particular human being hated women, biological women, hated biological women. I mean, I'm one of those. I'm sitting in the room and just the spewing of hate against us that were female in that room was just over the top. So you would think again, why would they have to act that way if it was truly just a dysphoria within themselves? So there's all this extra pressure from the outside. Now I saw that in 92 or 93.
You know, so you fast forward now to all of a sudden these kids identifying as furries or identifying as animals and then the schools. Let's put kitty litter boxes in the bathrooms. Like what are they sinking? This is like, and this isn't conservative Texas by the way, not just in keep Portland weird Portland. Yeah, I experienced it. I experienced it in Ohio where I was working rural, rural, high isn't that insane? It's like, where did this all just bubble up from? I've tried to think about this because I've had a traditional practice in pediatrics for years and honestly, most of my patients never really have any problems with dysphoria or just didn't see it. And I guess it's just because we were grounded. You know, I, you know, I brought those kids up through my practice as you're a little boy, this is what's going to happen. Your body's going to change. It's going to be a little different. You're going to have awkward years. You know, I always tell the kids, sorry, middle school's awkward year. But this two-shot pass, you will grow into high school. We all
had to go through. Right. Right. Yeah, the super long legs and the weird teeth and the whole thing. Right. Everyone goes through it. So, so, you know, I guess just because traditionally, that's how I, had my practice with the girls and the boys. It did just seem to really explode around that whole 2020 confusion, illusions that were being placed out there. And of course, I know you and I both know this that common sense was blocked. It was censored. It was deleted. It was ridiculed. It was mocked. It was hated over and over again. So, I understand where you're at, but it just seems really unusual that, oh, boom, there's this explosion of trans after 2020. Kind of makes sense, because the kids are in front of screens. And that's all they did for a year. They kept them out of school. They didn't allow them to socialize. Church is closed, which don't even start me with that. That's how we're the social media groups that, and you can be whoever you want to be behind a keyboard.
Right. The warriors. I love the hate warriors. They're so awesome. I'm the bots here they come. But that is something that, you know, as a pelvic surgeon, you probably were really accosted. Yeah. So, I mean, my practice was not particularly dealing with the transitioners or D transitioners. I certainly took care of individuals in my practice who had gone through transition surgery, but these were adults. I didn't, you know, I wasn't in practice taking care of children. You know, I had a handful of young 20-somethings that came to me for neurological issues. That, you know, at the time, you know, they're my patient. They're sitting in front of me. And, you know, I wasn't analyzing the mental health. I was there to fix, you know, your logical problem, which I did. But I mean, that's not to say that I haven't taken care of these
individuals. I certainly have. That just was not that wasn't my my area of expertise. But with this particular field, you know, I know how to reconstruct the pelvis. I know how to do these surgeries. I know how to, you know, take things down and refashion them back to, you know, some semblance of what they should be. So, I mean, all of that to say is even though I didn't choose to do the surgeries, I know how to do them. And I know the fundamentals of doing them. I mean, you say general surgeons are the same way. They may not do a particular procedure, but when you learn your anatomy and your physiology and, you know, you handle what's right in front of you at the time. Right, that's right. Now, you know, what are the risks of some of those surgeries? Because I think there's a, there's a illusion of everything works perfectly fine after any of these surgeries. Yeah, no, it doesn't. You know, if you're one of the lucky ones where, you know,
you're an adult and I, and I say this caveat as an adult, you know, for, for adults about adults, because adult bodies have already developed. They've already stopped growing, you know, they, as an adult, your body is what it's going to be structurally and, you know, tissue-wise and tissue integrity. You're not dealing with, you know, growing bones and joints and, you know, that, that sort of development anymore. But if you are an adult undergoing these procedures that, you know, that you've chosen to undergo, you're not contending with doing a surgery and then contending with the remodeling of that because the tissue is continuing to develop. That's the difference between adults and children. And so if you're an adult having one of these procedures and the stars align and everything working out just beautifully, and you hope your tongue is certain what, yes, exactly. You know, if you are one of those individuals that, you know, everything,
everything goes perfectly, then go you. But you're not, you're not the, the poster child for that, because not everybody experiences that. You're one of the lucky ones, so to speak. So it's a rarity that they actually do well. Yes, there are generally, there are generally always complications. And even, even with some of the individuals that I have taken care of that had these surgeries as adults and the stars aligned, they still, when I had to operate on them for other reasons, for other neurological conditions, there were particular things that I had to do to the tissue because the, you know, there was obvious scar tissue to be able to access the points in the body that I needed. So, so those are things that certainly would have continued to develop the scar tissue would have
continued to develop and eventually causing issues. Now, what I, what I will say is some of those individuals, you know, I had, had followed them for a number of years and, you know, those individuals ended up passing away at early ages from, from other issues, which I tend to, I tend to believe it, it's from the hormonal manipulation because the, the complications or the, the cause of death are known things as a result of hormonal manipulation. So, you know, back to your original question, what can you experience? Is scar tissue causing the inability to urinate effectively? You know, causing you to have to go back in and, and re-operate and, and re-fashion the tissue fistulas, which is a connection between one organ and another and, you know, if you experience a fistula, God help you because that can be, that can be something that can heal with conservative
measures or it can be something that is intensely painful. For instance, a fistula between the urethro, where the tubule urine comes out and the rectum, where stool comes out, you think of urine, it's typically an acid, well now think about that urine going through the rectum, and, you know, that burns from that, that hurts. And we see that a number. Never seen that. Never seen that. Never seen that. Septus. Absolutely. Absolutely. The infected, inverted hairs that would grow in the tracks where it's not supposed to grow because you're using grafts from other parts of the body. So, yeah, in infections and any number of those things can be... But I think really, and we'll get into a little bit different, we'll change tracks a little bit in the next segment. But I think truly, the risks of these things are not amply told to people that we're
here at this conference, we're talking about informed consent. There's no informed consent. And that's the status part because a lot of these patients end up regretting their decision, even if it was a conscious decision on their part to do it. We will be back in just a moment, but while we are going on break, I'm going to encourage you to go to americatloud.news, use the coupon code out loud and look at some of those really great products like bear bars. Yes, we have to purify our water, but what are we doing to fix the water structure so the body can actually absorb it?
That is why we created our lab certified structured water devices. These devices restore water molecules back to their natural structure, just like a mountain stream, making them highly absorbable. It's not how much water you drink. That's how much water you absorb that counts. Better hydration, better energy all day. Well, I challenge you to find a broader array of great voices, a deeper bench of experience or a more dedicated collection of passionate patriots than here on America out loud. It's...
Now is our time, my fellow Americans, America Out Loud.News, Liberty and Justice for All. And we are back with Dr. Melanie Crites, Buckert and... And we had a really intense conversation in the last segment. So this segment, we're just going to kind of transition a little bit of... Where you are today, exactly. I didn't realize I did that. That was terrible. Oh my gosh. But yes, no pun intended. Sorry, guys. We're going to start talking a little bit about where you are now, because you're not operating anymore, correct? I am on a limited amount. I actually do some contract work to take call on the weekends for hospitals that need an extra hand on the weekends. So when you're a surgeon, you can't just completely get out of this.
Yes, I know. I know. I know. The amount of doctors are in that curse, right? There's no return. I'm being put in doctors. And I enjoy it. I do still enjoy it. But I have to admit, the years of taking call and lack of sleep and really we're at this conference and we're talking about good nutrition and good mental health and proper sleep and... And... And yeah, I dream of not being on call. So I have to say, it's nice to be at a point in my career where I can cut back. And my husband is retired. So I can choose now to do contract work on my own schedule, take call when I want to. Because it does take its toll. I mean, patients and just the general population, they don't realize the toll that it actually really takes on a doctor's system.
The 65 pounds that I was overweight when I was working because cortisol was just at an all-time high. And I was trying to take care of everybody else's health at the expense of my own. Exactly. And I think people really don't realize that those sorts of things happen. And then you combine that with being on call and being awake and all hours of the night and then have to go into work the next morning and expect to be firing on all cell. Right. Right. No, I have no idea what I'm talking about. So I'm enjoying. I do still enjoy operating. I just, you know, I just, I like doing it on my own time and lending lending lending and help helping hand where where I can for colleagues that need a break. No, I think that's awesome because, you know, I'm doing I'm in that weird point in my career as well. You know, my kids are getting older and to learn college and the other ones. The other ones graduating high school. So I'm in that same kind of thing where I'm getting a little older and I want to enjoy life a little bit more because I've been just in the grindstone in the grindstone in the grindstone.
So yeah, we all, we all go through it and I want to do it before God willing. My health doesn't go anywhere, you know, so and you're right. I'm right now. I'm in that course all stress ball system right now. Okay, stop. Yes. So we have, we have that. And then we have that. Um, but I also understand you were really bored in all that extra time. Oh, yes. You know that extra time that you had not in surgery that you opened up a new business. And you want to tell us a little bit about your new business and your awesome. I'm so excited for it. I don't even know what to do with myself. Like. Well, yeah. So, so I started speaking out against transgender ideology when I started, when I started seeing these changes happen. And, you know, oddly enough, um, it was right in front of my face. You know, I had been praying. I had had felt like there was something more that I was meant to do.
And I just didn't quite know what that was. And then it was pointed out to me that, well, you're a pelvic reconstructive surgeon. You know, don't, don't you know about these surgeries and, you know, can't you speak to, um, you know, the lack of informed consent and the dangers, you know, as it pertains to both adults and children. But so I've, I've been doing that ever since. And I get a question every single time whenever I give a lecture or, you know, sit on a panel. Well, how, how did we get to this point? And my answer was always, well, how far back do you want to go? I mean, I was, for me, as a Christian, it started in the garden when we had that separation from God. And so then I started looking at that a little more. And it was laid on my heart that I wanted to, I wanted to probe a little deeper and find out, you know, exactly how we did get to this point. And, you know, what, what is behind all of it? Is there something behind it?
You know, is there a, a larger intent? Was this something that just happened? I mean, I, I wanted to explore all of those things. And so I was put into contact with a fabulous director and a fabulous producer. Um, you know, we, we were, we were introduced to one another and they, when I pitched my idea, they shared the same vision and said, wow, yeah, um, make sense. And we can get on board with that. And so we decided to start exploring that question. And so we then, um, we then decided, well, you know, we might as well, we might as well make this official. So, you know, our director, our director and producer formed a production company for which I kind of serve as a consultant, so to speak artistic consultant.
I like to say, um, I provide ideas. And, um, so remnant films came into being and remnant films is now producing a five starting out as a five part documentary exploring. Yeah, exactly. At least initially a five part documentary called Architects of Confusion. And it is exploring the origins of transgender ideology and its progression throughout time. And, you know, as you saw last night, it's, it's a little heavy. Um, it's a little heavy. It's a little dark. Well, this is not something that came from light, obviously. Correct. Right. I mean, when you're, when you're, when you're thinking it, I don't care in the universal way or whatever you want, wherever your belief system is, it doesn't matter. There's no way that anyone can say that this was not a dark trail that people are starting to follow.
Yes, there's no way. Yes. Right. You can't say, oh, yeah, they're all literally rainbows and unicorns, right? Right. They're, some of the, the meanest people, hateful people, joyless people that you've ever seen. And it's so sad because a lot of them just, they're, they want to be intuitive. Yeah, they want to belong. They want, they're, they're, they're hungering. These, these are very fragile and, and hurting individuals that just want to belong. And unfortunately, they've listened to the wrong voice. Exactly. And in an attempt to, in an attempt to preserve their own unique identity, in fact, it's just the opposite. They're giving that up. And they are, they don't, they really don't realize that they are becoming shells of themselves. There's, there's nothing unique about a common ideology.
That's not a unique voice. That's not, that is not embracing the inclusive. It's certainly not inclusive. Well, and it's, and it's not embracing the person that you were created to be. I mean, we, we all have things that we dislike about ourselves. Right. The problem is we're not giving, in my opinion, we're not giving our children coping skills. You know, the, the medical, the medical profession and the pharmaceutical profession, you know, are, are capitalizing monetarily by slapping a bandaid on this and saying, Oh, here's your easy fix. Take this pill or have this surgery. And this is going to cure all of your, you know, all of your dysphoria, all of your bad feelings. And, and that is the furthest, that is the furthest from the truth because what actually happens and what we've actually seen has happened is that just the opposite has happened. They, these individuals generally end up having more mental health issues because the initial issues were not addressed to begin with.
Now you add pharmacotherapy manipulation. So hormonal manipulation on top of it. And then God forbid they go on to have these surgeries and have complications of these surgeries. I call it three levels of trauma because you've got the first trauma that was never dealt with as far as mental health goes. And then you have the trauma of the transition and trying to deal with the changes in the body just from the transition. And then if you regret that and you decide to try to turn back to what your, you know, natural sex is. Well, now you've got that third layer of trauma because in, in the midst of all of this emotions and mental health was not put into perspective and was not dealt with to begin with. So you're adding layer upon layer upon layer of trauma. So now you just have this big ball of problems that you have to try to unwind. And when you're dealing with children and adolescents, I mean, as an adult, it's hard enough.
But when you are dealing with children and adolescents who, you know, are in the throes of, you know, hormonal chaos anyway. And then you start pharmacologically manipulating that creating even more chaos. I just feel like that's a recipe for disaster. It is a recipe. Well, and we're seeing it. We're seeing it. We're seeing it. Just explode and, and implode, you know, at the same time, it's just, it's a mess. And, you know, we see these poor young people, they, you know, we have some detransitioners that were brought forth and, and they're very public. And that vile group is going after the detransitioners too. And that's enough. You know, let them be, you know, live and let live isn't that a mantra that everyone should live by. It's like leave them alone just because they saw something different and chose a different path or to return back to where they feel is well, I don't know. I got manipulated. I got, you know, forced into doing something I didn't really know what was going on. Why? Because there wasn't informed consent.
Or I was too emotionally or psychologically immature to understand, which goes to capacity of informed consent. What the consequence. Correct. And then you have this, there's probably a fourth layer of trauma where you have the, the, the, you know, regardless of they go backwards or continue in there, which you said, like the early death. And, you know, there's a lot of cancer associated with that. Correct. There's, you know, there's a lot of cardiac diseases, osteoporosis, just to name a few diabetes, the development of diabetes, blood clots. Yeah. Just it just goes. There's a huge laundry list of cross sex hormone complications. And so now we have a population of people now that are even more of a burden on the medical community, right? So they're a patient for life. That's, that's where the pharmaceutical company really capitalizes. And, you know, unless things have radically changed. I did some calculations a few years ago.
And if an individual transitions at, you know, at an early age. So, for instance, in adolescence, they can be worth up to $4 million in revenue over a lifetime. So, again, when we're, when you put that into perspective, and that's, that's somebody that goes, goes all through, you know, what we call the whole gamut of transition. So hormonal manipulation, which they will be on for the rest of their lives. So there are those monthly prescription costs. But then if they undergo surgeries, some of the surgeries can, you know, be $350,000. Depending on the complexity of the surgery and depending on then if they go on to have complications requiring other surgeries. And the average, the average individual averages 2.6 surgeries over a lifetime. But some of the individuals that I know and that I've personally worked with, they've had far more surgeries than that. So when you take all of those things into account, an individual can be worth up to $4 million. But even if they decide is really important to point out, even if they don't undergo surgery.
And they have just been on cross sex hormones. And then they decide to detransition, even if they've never had a mastectomy or genital, you know, genital surgery or anything like that. Just the fact that they've been on hormonal manipulation like that, they will be on hormones for the rest of their lives because they've already manipulated their bodies to the point that like the testicles aren't producing just costs around the ovaries aren't producing estrogen. So they're going to have to supplement. So the pharmaceutical industry is a cash cow in this in this respect. So it's not just, oh, hey, I'm going to detransition and that's going to be that they they are going to have these individuals are going to have very real, very real things, which, which continues on with those risks of cancers and cardiovascular risk because they are on those exogenous warm foods.
And do you happen to know you may not know the answer, but do you happen to know what the population percentage is for these individuals in what regard just like in general in the US population, how many people are in this trans community. The last I looked at was less than 10% right. And yet 90% of us have to suffer through the push constantly. Yes, I think that's what American so and seem to understand is and that 10% number is a manipulated number because it is if you look back what not even 10 years ago, it's a lot less percent. Correct. So, so yes, so that that's a good point. Thank you. Thank you for pointing that out because those are those are fairly recent numbers. Then the numbers were actually far lower than that. It was, I think it was around like 1.2% or 1.4% and since since the peak of social media.
There has been there has been almost a straight, almost a straight straight curve. There's been a straight, a straight line for an uptick on individuals identifying as something other than male or female or identifying as trans. Right. That is that is a horror show that's happening within our schools and it's it's actually being propagated on the DTI mantra, which yes, hopefully is getting more and more decommissioned. Because what's happening in our schools is that the norm, the normies, the normal kids are being subjected to the fact that they are bullies just because they're normal, which is ridiculous. And you know, it's usually from the taunting of this 1% to 10% of people and administrators and teachers that are actually protecting that group. They're not protecting the whole. They're protecting a very small group and it's not that people shouldn't be protected.
But the thing is is that it's so uneven with the justification. Well, and what we have discovered through the through the filming of our documentary and and interviewing some of our experts, what we are finding is that those children in the school systems that are in the public school systems that are, you know, as you said, quote, unquote normal, the ones, the ones that, you know, identify as they're as they're native sex. They are being desensitized because of the DTI because of the social emotional learning. They are being desensitized to all of this starting at a very young age. So we're starting in preschool with with this curricula to desensitize our children such that they won't know to even speak out against something when they see something wrong. Exactly. Because it has their their minds have been indoctrinated. I call it indoctrination.
But they have been so sensitized from such an early age or I should say desensitized because of the curricula. Absolutely. And we're going to pick up on that in our next segment. So stay tuned. People will be right back. Go to the America out loud. News shop. You know, this time of year, the windows closed, the furnace kicks on. This has been a fascinating segment because now we're getting into a very touchy subject of the schools and the indoctrination of our schools. And I have to say in my own district because yes, I'm that annoying parent that goes to school. Yes, yes. And not only that annoying person, but I organize a bunch of annoying parents with me. And I have to have to to further back up and have other data so they probably really don't like. They really appreciate my input. Yes, yes. So I mean, I have kids in public school. I homeschooled my kids for the first one I call the formative years. The worst thing that we, I don't know what we were thinking, but we did put our kids in school because our schools were science magnet schools
So we thought great our kids are science oriented math oriented We'll put them in there because we're not gonna build a chemistry lab in our backyard right now It's kind of the idea that backfire don't as horribly because loan behold We did not know they shut all that stuff down because apparently you got COVID from beakers. Oh, so And lockers and don't even get me started anyhow So the indoctrination of children and one of the things that as a developmental pediatrician because I do this all day I always tell people my superpowers that I grow little humans into bigger humans and You know this is one of those things that the the child's brain is so imperative to protect yes from Conception yes all the way through adulthood which could be like 2526 because their brain is still not formative even at 25 and 26 sometimes So developmentally, you know, one of the things that I get very very
Protective about for parents and mothers especially if you're a healthy mom know your labs know what's going on Because really and truly to stay as organic and pure as possible during your pregnancy is going to is it's just going to Make life so much easier. Well when I was when I was doing my OB Residencies when our rotations when I was in medical school You know, of course we would always go in and and talk before the you know before the attending physician would come in and You know, I would always tell the mothers the This is this is the kids one and only chance. You can't go back and be Repregnant with this child. So what you do at this point in time This is their one chance in the womb to develop You know to to develop well. Right now you're right and I think that's you know I did a whole podcast on how to prepare yourself for pregnancy with a phenomenal female
She that's what she works with I mean she's a physician as well But she does pre pregnancy preparation so that those babies could be as healthy and productive as possible for the rest of their lives Right, so when when you're talking about the brain and there's a gentleman by the name of Dr. Larry Pulewski He does a wonderful job. I actually interviewed him about the progression and the development of the baby's brain from the newborn period up through toddlerhood and I can tell you You know, these kids are doing things repetitively to learn and to store it from you know They're to get it into their long memory so that it becomes a permanent memory And so a lot of this stuff They only learn What they're taught If they're allowed to explore so it's it's really funny because with the helicopter parenting with the soft parenting We have a group of children right now that really don't even know which way to turn they can't make a decision for themselves They barely know how to feed themselves
Dress themselves and get ready for the the world. I mean everything else. They look up on their phone right Google it right they don't know how to use the Dewey decimal system. I always oh I'm like I love the Dewey So you know things like that they have no idea they don't memorize phone numbers anymore like we had to when we were kids Because we never cell phones and I have to say I've done myself down because I don't memorize phone numbers anymore Which is terrible. I know my husband's I know mine. I don't know my kids phone numbers. I have no idea what they are If I don't look them up. So that's a terrible thing and that's as an adult Could you imagine if you keep doing that and keep programming a child that way? So one of the things I always tell people is like this what DEI has done is it's destroyed the innocence of youth It destroyed the innocence of childhood because I can tell you as a pediatrician children do not understand race Yes at all at all Until they're taught let me just give you a little Propointer because I went through this myself and I had no idea that it was happening until it happened
So I grew up and everyone was the same. I had no idea that there were different Ethnicities or whatever. I just didn't know it wasn't because I didn't appreciate that their last name was him and is and Mine was for Ella and someone else's was Von Brecken nick, you know, or whatever Those aren't real names, but I'm just saying But but you know, I didn't know that there was there was a difference until I went to college And when I went to college it was a smack in my face That there was quote-unquote race. I had no idea no idea I felt so stupid. I remember this vividly because it's still kind of a PTSD and it was It was actually like A hazing with a Hispanic. I think it was sorority. I'm not really sure if it was sorority of returning because I was just so shocked Because I didn't understand what was going and they were dressed in militant outfits
Like military so I thought it was military thing and I remember thinking huh I didn't know we had like a military, you know, core or whatever here. That's kind of interesting You know and like when I started exploring it. Oh, man, it was so embarrassing because I was like Hey, like is that like part of the armed forces like are they gonna be you know army or whatever and everyone looked at me like I had 14 heads And they were like no That is the Hispanic Greek system in front of you and I was like Oh my gosh, cuz you know, that was a big time when hazing was a big problem and all this stuff Well, they were hazing in the middle of the commons and I didn't realize it I thought they were just doing like calisthenics or whatever You know, I do yeah because I'm really naive Super tiny and and that was the first time I was like race It then it occurred to me like oh my gosh like we couldn't do that Like I as a white woman if I was in a sorority or whatever we couldn't do that
So right there. I was like, oh look. Here's the cast system It's kicking in and it was where that was also a thing about race because I didn't understand race And then all of a sudden I started rewinding in my head the people I went to high school with or the people I went to elementary school and I went through their last names I'm like had no idea this one was Hispanic. I had no idea this one because we were all just Us yeah, right? Yeah, and then case in point when my daughter went to we went we sent our kids to a charter school initially Which I loved the charter school But the problem was they alternated between presidents day and Martin Luther King day So the first year it was presidents day. She was in kindergarten She went back to first grade and that year was Martin Luther King day, which is fine. I don't have problem with that And so she came home and we always do a debrief with our kids Which I can't tell parents how important this is you need to ask your children every day What did you learn in school today? Okay, especially if it's a special program or a special holiday or I don't know whatever
And so she she said oh well, we learned about Martin Luther King and I was like cool. What'd you learn? right So she said oh I learned that he was a black guy that got killed by a white guy and My jaw hit the floor my husband I thought I was gonna have to peel him off the ceiling. I said did you not learn that he was a pastor? Did you not learn that he was a great orator that he did a wonderful speech? That you know that guy was going through all these different things and she just had this blank look on her face like no Now why would you have to tell a child about an assassination when they're in first grade? That was the first thing in my head like why are we discussing an assassination? In first grade these are six and seven year old so of course Mama goes to school and After I peeled my husband off the ceiling with the spatula We made the decision. That's it. We're done. We're bringing our kids home and and we're gonna homeschool him We are in a an ISD of 44,000 student families
Probably more now because the building in our area has just gone But the population of our public schools has gone dramatically down. They have lost over 4,000 patients since I'm sorry Since 2020 because I was watching the numbers in 2020. Wow I was watching very telling Yes And I keep telling my people when I when we're talking about this because we don't want to expose our children to this Insanity that they keep saying is It's okay, and it's for their you know for their mental good and all I see is disasters after disasters more anxiety I've never treated more anxiety in my entire career as I have in the last five to six years. Oh, yes Those those those statistics have have shown that anxiety and depression Among both kids and adults has skyrocketed since being isolated and behavior and behavior. Yes. Oh the behavior is off the Richter charts
Yes, yes, I linked behavior experience that actually in my husband found it very interesting I experienced that phenomenon during during COVID and immediately after COVID before I closed my private practice I wasn't even I wasn't even you know a child an adolescent physician. I was taking care of adults but the level of aggressiveness and the level of just Awareness behavioral awareness the patients were coming in incredibly incredibly aggressive um Demanding and entitled on a scale that I had never experienced before and it was like a switch and it was it was it was and I would come home every day and I was becoming so beaten down it just just demoralized um because I I felt like Wow, you know, I have I missed something all of this time because I don't remember patients being like this and you know
I would come home exhausted at the end of the day, but it was a good exhaustion at least I knew I helped people I was coming home now exhausted at the end of the day because I was dealing With personalities and behaviors on a level that I had never dealt with before and my office staff was becoming so just So unnerved because you know patients were calling in Demanding and just nasty and aggressive and it was it was on a scale entirely different than I had ever seen And then we're seeing it too with the parents were seeing that with the kids were seeing that across the board And you know, we really strive in my practice too same like the front desk people are sweet people They're trying their best to help people and they are just getting chewed up spit out and stomped on yes And we've gotten to the point where I just told them look we just can do what we can do Yes, and you know just Bless them with a smile and just say I'm so sorry We're just going to move on from here and we're going to be done. Yes, and you know
We're sorry that we can't serve a shoe like I told them I said it's not worth your mental health to have to Deescalate someone on the phone right that is not your expertise. That's not where you're supposed to go You know, we're here to help people as physicians and it's just been such a journey of even just Depersonal you know personalizing it to yourself and also going home and and shedding that crap Because you don't want to give the worst to your family you want to give them the best right and so there was a Huge a couple of years ago. I had to go and do it like a retreat literally to just cleanse myself of that crap Because it is just evil personified and you go home and your your nerves are just Yes, yes, I was having a hard time sleeping. Yes, because I because I care so deeply about my patients and I was taking everything personally rather than taking a step back being able to take a step back
and say these are hurting individuals too and they I truly don't think people realize how aggressive and Difficult They were becoming And I just think it was just a product and has been a product of the of the isolation Absolutely of those sorts of things that people just don't realize unless you're in a service industry where you Could actually see the change and I had I felt like I was going crazy like I said I had I had missed something always time and I for the same person and I finally you know I had called up a couple of colleagues and I said you know are you all experiencing this because I was just becoming so depressed about it all yeah And felt like I wasn't helping my patients anymore and so it wasn't until I called a couple of colleagues that I realized I wasn't alone because they said oh my god I was just having this conversation with with somebody last week you know with another colleague last week. Yes
I've been experiencing the same thing So it was across the board so that's when I realized oh hey, yeah, this is This is something that's happening for all you know for all physicians Yeah, and what's crazy is that during that whole debacle as I like to call it the six-year debacle that we're still in um I Went home one day And you know, I'm I'm very secure in my beliefs everyone that knows me knows this but I went home one day And I sat down at the table with my husband and I literally looked at him and I said maybe it's me And my crazy one. Yeah, I said seriously do you really think it's me? Yeah, I think yeah I think about the common denominator It's like you're the one common denominator in all of this because it's different people coming in and you're I I had the same I had the same oh my gosh. I was like breaking down as I think it's me Yeah, I must be the wrong one. I'm like that I can't be there's no way I'm wrong
I had to do like that whole self evaluation. I'm like there's no way because I'm not doing anything different than I did Yes, three years ago or whenever You know, and I'm like what is going on? But it's funny that you see where the ones we were the ones analyzing our selves while the rest of the world was was just It was just you know skating by and not checking themselves and we were killing ourselves checking ourselves. Yep. Well, that was because we had something called intuition We have the godliness we chose to do something Really it shouldn't have been against the grain.
