Visit your neighborhood store to make the switch today. You're listening to the Dana and parks podcast on KMBZ. Story here from NBC News golf legend Phil Mikkelson. Checked himself into a treatment facility earlier this year to address family trauma and addiction. According to a spokesperson, Mikkelson who is 56 is no longer at the facility and it's not clear when he entered treatment or for how long his representative did not give further details about the nature of his stay because it's none of our business. The announcement comes amid a turbulent year for the six time major champion in April. Mikkelson said he would step away from competition for an extended period while his family navigated a personal health matter. He's married three children reportedly barred from his longtime Southern California golf club, the farms after being accused of making non consensual inappropriate physical contact with a female club member.
I'm a ploy thank you pardon. I forgot about that. Yeah. Mikkelson far from the first professional athlete to see in what percentage of cases do you think there truly are addiction issues or sex addiction issues and then versus the percentage of cases where I got caught. This looks really bad. I'm starting to lose sponsors so I'm going to go away for 60 days or however long I don't know. Obviously that would involve mostly high profile people. Probably my guess is north of 50% really are addicted to anything and but they need to put on a public face to they might have a problem with it whether it's alcohol or drugs or sex or whatever the great PR move. Yeah because what it does is it it it says without saying I've made mistakes and I'm doing something to fix it and you can't fault someone for wanting to get better right.
And if that's what they're trying to do if you know film Mikkelson really did have a problem. But I think there's no question he has a gambling problem like no. I don't think anyone around him would deny that. He's quite the gambler massive gambling problem. Okay. There've been books written about it. Well, maybe that was the treatment facility. It just said it didn't say what kind of addiction he has and just said addiction. I can't imagine it's not in some way connected to the previous allegations but you mean with the female employee. Yeah, that one just kind of got brushed over. Sean did he comes has been placed in solitary confinement following an NBC news report about his VIP lifestyle behind bars. I've seen this it makes me sick. The disgraced hip hop mogul arrived at the Fort Dix federal prison in New Jersey in October after you sent us to 50 months behind bars for transporting people across state lines for sexual encounters since then. He has spent thousands of dollars a month to bring his high end lifestyle to the low security prison.
Can you imagine just the ridiculousness of the goal to bring your quote high end lifestyle dot dot dot to prison. Do you want to know what his high his VIP lifestyle included? It should be toilet hooch and it ends there cell phones premium liquor, including Hennessy. Oh, yeah. He also pays several inmates who cook special meals for him. Clean his toilet and shower before he uses them. They actually have a wet wipes that they sanitize the seat of his toilet before he sits down on it. Okay. We have to keep in mind why are we allowing this? They do his laundry, make his bed, and he even pays some inmates to give him a Chinese style. Oh, God. We have to keep in mind that this man is so delusional that he hired an entire documentary film crew to follow him throughout the trial of which he knew he was going to be convicted because he thought somewhere deep down in his head that this new documentary was going to be his rise back to fame after they smeared my name.
That worked out. Well, if he's in, bought all the footage and turned it into a documentary with a very different story. So he's in solitary. So stupid. Why are we allowing this? How does he get Hennessy into this prison? I don't know. I don't want to know. I truly don't want to know. I bet he's getting drugs too. Oh, I'm sure. Cell phones. Yeah. Hennessy people are cleaning his toilet and shower form before he uses this disgusting baby oil. Well, we don't know about that from K which our friends down in Wichita Americans are using by now pay later more than ever. And here's what you should know if you're one of them. And by the way, we used to call that lay away, growing up Kmart had lay away. If you wanted the old speaking spell, a lot of them did. Didn't they? Did it online? It's like, censure. Sears had it. Kmart, Alcoe. I don't know if I'll have time.
From the Associated Press, Americans spent more than 160 billion dollars last year using by now pay later plans according to research published by Federal Reserve Economists. Experts say they are increasingly seeing people use these types of plans for everyday expenses, groceries, bills, transportation and sometimes rent. Quoting here from Sarah Rathner with Nerdwallet's credit card expert, it has been a hard time out there for a lot of people. It is a tough job market. It is a rough economy. The cost of things we are buying every day is going through the roof in some cases more than folks incomes. Pay in four plans which generally allow consumers to pay for purchases in four installments over six weeks. Accounted for about a half of the 160 billion in the by now pay later. I've never heard this. It's called pay in four. It's basically just a super short term loan with very little interest.
Now, do you get the item immediately? Yes. You get the item immediately and then you have to pay it off. And what happens if you don't pay it off in your four installments? Are they going to come to your home and reclaim it? Well, but what if what they're reclaiming is rent or is groceries? So this is very different from lay away. With lay away you went in, you wanted to claim the item, you didn't get the item until you paid it off. But they physically held the item in their back room or warehouse. And if you never paid it off, the only consequence was that you had to go until your kid, so sorry, Christmas isn't going to be as great this year. I wasn't able to finish out the payments. Yeah. And with this you get it up front and then you have to pay it on the back end. And it absolutely tanks your credit. The credit rates are through the roof. It's basically like the payday loan scheme, just the modern day application of it. And the biggest scariest part about it is you don't have to be 18 years old and have a good credit score to get these loans.
There are 16 year olds. There are 15 year olds who are signing up for these accounts to pay for to pull out and pay for. Not legally, not legally. They're doing it. And by the time they turn 18, they have horrible credit and thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars in debt. Quoting here from one mom, she says, I use by now pay later so I can have the furniture I need. I have groceries in my fridge because of it. I don't necessarily feel shameful for doing it because at the end it has been official to me at this point in my life. She said, when I first started using it, I had just started out on my own living by myself. I was earning a salary that made it hard to afford basic expenses. She is 26 years old, lives in South Carolina and works at an optical store. And she used the pay and for to buy furniture? So she could otherwise have just going out on her own. Like so to furnish the apartment when she just went out on her own. There's a subsection of this industry rent now pay later, which breaks rent into multiple payments.
It really isn't a convenience element anymore. Quoting here from Mark Elliott, Chief Customer Officer at Happen Bank. It is really becoming a cash flow challenge. Are you not just digging yourself into a deeper hole? Of course you are. They're quoting here a 28 year old who first used it to get concert tickets. Oh, oh. And by the way, if you sit down and go through these people's transaction history, I'm obsessed with the financial audit show. If you've seen it on Spotify, YouTube, granted I understand that the cases that he has on his show, Caleb Hammer, are the extreme cases. So it highlights the worst of the population. But every single time he sits down with one of these guests, he says, you know, oh, you have $40,000 in debt and you're 19 years old. How did that happen? Well, I couldn't afford this. I couldn't afford that. And then they go through their debit card statements and their credit card statements and it's seven bucks at Starbucks.
I think we need to do better with our young people and financial literacy and even in high school. But there's a great question right there. Is that kind of stuff taught? Because I don't remember it needs to be more taught. Even if it is taught, it needs to be more taught. I don't remember in high school being taught by a teacher. I definitely was by my parents about what interest rates mean. You know, on if you get a credit card and I remember the first credit card I ever got in college had a 20% interest. Oh, I got the same one. They handed them out for free like candy. Outside of the, outside of the school. And you got a little t-shirt. Yeah, you got a t-shirt and you were signed up. I only got it because I had no credit at all to my name and I rarely, if ever, used it. I only bought what I knew I could pay back. The most well-known by now pay later product is that pay in four where you can pay back what you owe in four payments. One every two weeks with a zero percent annual percentage rate or APR.
However, that's what it says. Not every by now pay later loan has the same terms and before you commit to doing this, you need to know what you're signing up for. If there's truly a product out there that as a stopgap, you can use this and break something down that is a necessity in four payments with a zero percent APR, then I think that that is a more attractive alternative for people than a pay day loan, certainly. Well, of course, anything's more attractive than a pay day loan, but at zero percent, who's offering zero percent? One of the most popular pay in four platforms. What does that say to you, Scott? It's popular because probably for every six people that are paying that off in time, four people are not. We need to be clear. It's zero percent for the four weeks or for the four payments. For the six weeks. And then after that, if you don't make eye rockets. Well, of course it does. It's a disaster. I don't understand.
It's a disaster because the economy is a disaster. We didn't just accidentally stumble into this period of time with inflation and gas prices. And we've talked about the inability for any affordable housing for our young people. Let alone buying a house right and good luck with that at seven percent. And I don't disagree with anything you just said. The economy is not in good shape, despite what some people will say. Gas prices are way too high. Diesel prices are a disaster. I was listening to a report last night. One of these combines that up in Iowa, they interviewed a farmer up in Iowa. His combine holds 200 gallons of diesel. That's, I believe if my math is correct, that's $1200 in gas in diesel gasoline. And he burns through that in two days. Did you see the meme this week that if you go back one of my favorite movies with Will Smith, I am legend. That's great moving.
There is a still shot. This is a post apocalyptic America. There is a still shot going around and you know, Will Smith is in the foreground. Gas sign is in the background. He's the only American that survived this event. And the gas prices for diesel are what we are seeing right now. In the movie, I am legend in post apocalyptic America. Let me just add this real quick. I don't disagree with everything that you said, Dana, but there is also another problem that we have in America. And that's an insatiable appetite for stuff. For crap. Yeah, for just stuff. Absolutely. That you don't really. Concert tickets are not a necessity. Absolutely not. You can blame the economy all day long. We have to make sacrifices if we want to survive. And if that sacrifice means that I have to eat rice and chicken for dinner for the next 74 meals, that's what it is. And as Americans, that is not in our DNA.
And I can still remember when Sean and I were just getting started after college, we would eat that. God awful stop your heart because it's got so much sodium in it. Ramen noodle. That's not food. That's not food. But that's what we ate night after night after night because we were broke. 913-586-7798 here on Dana and Parks. What you're listening to presumably doesn't suck, so neither should your sound system. Sonos lets you listen seamlessly from room to room. Same great sound, expertly tuned, astonishingly clear. It's not magic, but it's not not magic. When you have 18 painted photo statues all around town, why not add a 15-foot tall one? Of Toto, the dog from the Wizard of Oz, you can find it in Wamego, Kansas. And joining us on the Kamzy Hotline is the director of tourism. Cory Reeves, Cory, good afternoon. Hello. Hey, how are you this afternoon? Are you guys all surviving all the rain? We are. And Cory, I have to say I love Wamego. We have been there so many times as a family. We have many, many family connections that go hundreds of years back and it's a beautiful space.
Well, thank you. Wamego kind of prides itself on being kind of a little bit of America's hometown vibe when we invite people to town. So that extends into Fourth of July and Ostoberfest and Os and everything like that. So it's just a unique experience. And yeah, if you've got a bunch of little totos and you have an opportunity to be like, could we put the world's tallest totos in town, Wamego? I mean, you say yes to that, right? Yes, Cory, you say yes to that. Yeah, so we had an opportunity back in February. We put in a grant with the State Department of Tourism and Commerce and it was for an attraction grant. And that's what we pitch was the world's tallest toto. And they gave us a grant out behind it. And this was so we found out at the last week of February and now seven months later, we're ready to unveil the world's tallest toto statue. And we 15 feet tall in railroad park in downtown. Super exciting. We have the process of Guinness Book of World Records and everything.
But man, in the most Kansas Wizard of Oz story of all time, not only do we have we had severe weather. There's been tornadoes in Kansas, a witch melting amount of rain. So it makes all of the install challenging. But if anything, we've got a group that's ready to overcome. Like if you want to continue with the Oz jokes, I know a lot of wizard and the wizards are making everything happen. So we can paint the picture in our listeners minds. These totos statues that you have around town, they're all hand painted. Very similar in idea, but not designed to like the parade of hearts that we have here in Kansas City going on. Years ago, they did gigantic J Hawks in Lawrence that were all painted. And that's kind of what you guys have done in one me go with these total statues. Exactly. The parade of hearts is the perfect example in KC, right? Like so it was like every one of them.
Same sculpture, different motif, right? By different artists. The totos have been that way. They're in there kind of a way finding system throughout downtown, right? They're in front of the Oz winery in the Oz museum and the park and the windmill and out by the fireworks show. Everything like that, all painted by local artists. So the idea was that that project has been a part of downtown. Well, me go along with the yellow brick road now for for well over 15 years. The Oz museum has got over 20 year history. So we're like, how do we regenerate new interests? So the giant toto was it and Kansas somehow has like this weird obsession, which is amazing as far as world's largest. It's like world's largest ball of trine. Yes. World's largest salt shaker. The world's largest belt buckle is in the Abilene. Like so everything's world's largest right along I 70. So it's like, why don't we capture that? We're lucky in world's tallest toad that MGM has been doing the advertising for Wizard of Oz for now almost 100 years.
So we kind of thought that it made a lot of sense. We've got great partners to help do it. So the same company that made the little totos when we said, can you make one 15 feet tall? They said, let me call you back later this afternoon. And they eventually said, yes, getting into mom. Me go has been a challenge. The weather has been a challenge. We were planning to have a ribbon cutting tomorrow with all the rain that ribbon cutting is going to get pushed back this Saturday. But Saturday is Oz toberfest in downtown. One me go Kansas. So it's all things also it kind of works out just perfect, but we're super excited. Coria, I love this and I want to give you guys a shout out because for all of our listeners who have children at K state or go back for the K state football games. This is a perfect thing to put on your drive out to Manhattan. You would almost literally drive right by it or could drive right by it about about two hours from here directly west. Yeah, it is. And you know, if you jump off and want me to go and drive down high one, anti nine, you're going to drive right past the brand new toto and downtown. It's at the the interest of town on highway 99.
So you drive right down 99, which is linger street hit highway 24 and shoot right on in to Manhattan for a K state football game or a K state visit. It's really pretty perfect. The Oz museum is a huge part of that. Obviously the Oz museum has one of the largest collections of Osmo Rivillian, the country. It's the top 10 USA today. Pop culture museum door. These house is actually in the Oz museum, the model, the actual model that was used in 1939 film. The one that gets sucked up by the tornado. No way. Model is in the Oz museum in one me go, Kansas. The one that actually appears in the film itself. A model in the film. Yeah, the model. So you know, here's your random Oz trivia. These are the things you learn if you live in a one me go for long enough. So it was 35 feet of Muslim cloth that they spun to look like a tornado. And then they had air cannons kind of like shooting dirt up into the air. They filmed the house being dropped and then reverse the footage to make it look like it was sucked up into the air. Wow. The actual model of the house. Was purchased at auction several years ago.
And it's in one me go. It's one of a few screen use pieces that are in the museum. We've got a we've got the corners hat and a and a trumpeter coat and the sconces that are outside the witches castle. And a winky guard staff like all kinds of actual screen use. I don't want to see any of those monkeys. Cory, those monkeys give me a nightmares to this day. You're not wrong. That there are monkeys on the outside of the Os museum. They are not animated. They do not come for you. I promised that that got pitch. They said, well, we could have a giant flying monkey. I was like, I don't know that anybody wants their child to take a picture of. Of a 15 foot tall flying monkey. But it's pretty exciting. Ostoberfest this weekend starts at 10. It runs so for it's absolutely free to come see us. There's also two test. Open to. And there's three vendors in food and a car show and the whole bit the os museum still charges mission their they're actually unveiling you. Exhibits inside the os museum this weekend the os museum has acquired the actual courage metal that is given to the cowardly lion at the end of the film.
So the prototype that they made all the gold casings from the have that. prototype that they made all the gold castings from they have that that'll be unveiled in the museum and the movie The Wiz which you want to talk about creepy like if you didn't think wizard was creepy the the Wiz is a it gets a little creepy right the one with my oh yes Michael Jackson Diana Ross Russell is in it Richard prior is in it so the winged monkeys in that movie are motorcycle gang and they ride motorcycle that's right we we have one of the motorcycles that's being unveiled on Saturday in the Oz Museum I'll say this Corey my grandparents are buried in Wamego my beloved farmer Norman and grandmother were there a bear in Wamego and I am getting ready to go to Manhattan to see my son if not this weekend next weekend I am absolutely going to stop by and see your gigantic total it makes me very happy well text me I'll give you a a grand tour of not only total but the museum myself that would be fantastic I appreciate it we want you to hang on I mean I actually have our producer get your phone number so I can I can do that and we can make sure you guys are
open when we make the track as I want to see it do it I am in for it anytime you guys want the inside scoop whether it's Oz whether it's the boom town fireworks show that we pull off here any of that stuff you're more than welcome to literally be my guest again not to make all the us jokes but there's no place like Wamego and if you need the inside track that is phenomenal very quickly before you last question where did this upset because it is an obsession I'm looking at some of the pictures of your town you have a real yellow brick road where did this obsession with the Wizard of Oz come from so in a tent to make it a close one before the commercial break 20 years of media I know you're probably up against it right and sponsors pay all the bills so so in the late 90s a local collector put an Oz exhibit in the in the lower level of the Colombian theater in downtown and people came from all over to come see it and at that point they said you know if this many people will travel from outside of town to see this all stuff what if we actually made it for real museum so they got grants they fundraise they purchased the
property they started the Oz Museum and the idea was like this generated tourism and like Kansas small towns I mean as everyone knows like the struggle is how do we get more people to come see us to come spend money here tourism dollars drive small town economies so the Oz Museum became a thing we're now on the third iteration of the Oz Museum is the original we rebuilt the facade and now we've rebuilt the inside of it all within the last 20 years so the push was how do we get more folks to want me go all seem to be the conduit and once people started coming it's just been a continued effort to how do we make not just the Oz Museum of destination but actual Oz attraction and experience in downtown want me go well Corey thank you for your time really appreciate hang on the line Corey our producer is going to give you my cell phone number and shoot me a text and and we'll get this taken care of we really really appreciate your time because my grandparents are buried there we will go through while me go stop and see grandma grandpa get a picture with the picture with the toto and go on demand at an indoor man that had a thing and that is a great almost a case in weekend to me the ribbon cutting on the 15
foot toto has been moved to Saturday because of the weather 913 586 77798 here on Dana Park's by the way we did a broker rule did a little research the Oz Museum in want me go has 25,000 different items we're going 25,000 town of about 4,000 people and Oz toberfest is very much like October fest the way my research read but just with a Wizard of Oz theme to it instead so that museum has more than five Oz items per resident Samuel by the way most most of it is on loan and yes most of it is on permanent loan from one person Judy Garland it is not it's a friar somebody I can't
remember the cast it was Judy Garland I've already closed my catch the guy that stole the slippers and then he stole them again and then they found them from the Smithsonian yeah no yeah remember that they got the guy not the slippers did he steal from the Smithsonian I it was no I think it was up in like Michigan or something crazy a story huh and I believe if I'm not mistaken there are only six of the Ruby slippers are there's not many and they don't look like rubies by the way when when this guy one of the guys that stole them said at the time he thought they were real real rubies okay these are you know over the years picture a very old pair of dance shoes that like your 11 year old war in a recital 50 years ago you know what I mean yeah they are sequins that were individually sewn on nothing about those shoes look like rubies it worked in the movie but they you know they're not I think this guy
may have been maybe the elevator didn't go all the way up I stolen back in August of 2005 Terry John Martin went into the Judy Garland museum and Grand Rapids Minnesota smashed the glass casing with a hammer grabbed the shoes and ran out Martin thought the sequins in the real rubies and wanted to pull off his last criminal score and it was actually he didn't believe it he had a criminal buddy who told him that they were real rubies okay a short time later a criminal associate told him that the gyms were just glass Martin lost interest and handed the shoes over to another man okay he pled guilty in October of 2023 sentenced in January of 2024 to no prison time okay by the way there are there is no known number of slippers that were made for the movie but five pairs do exist yeah all right let's go to college part Georgia where a judge there is dismissed a temporary protective order against a resident who said the order kept
her from speaking at city council meetings there's practitioner Allison blue said she has long used social media to criticize elected officials yeah she said those posts became an issue after her friendship with college part council woman Jamel McKenzie ended and blue began posting critically about councilwoman McKenzie McKenzie then filed a temporary protective order against blue blue said she did not know about the order when she arrived at a September 21st city council meeting she said the college park police chief removed her from the meeting and handed her a copy of the TPO do you think they would let her return if she presented her complaints in song in song there's an unwelcome site in the neighborhood a developer is being greedy there's a hole in the sky where a tree once stood such a lack of life and sound all that's left is bare muddy ground a magnificent tree was murdered the mighty dollar cut it down there's a hole in
the sky where the tree once was the work on bodies making money stand up there's a hole in the sky where the tree once was somebody's making money laws protect exceptional trees okay that's enough of that the best is you not care about your reputation the best is the moderator at the end thank you Suzanne I that was a very wonderful presentation I will I do have to make for the record to reflect that that is a second warning for disturbance because of group participation I really love the song I am saying for few I have to maintain consistent boundaries forever so thank you very much for that please not do that again Suzanne you think she's still fighting for trees yes six years later I do that was in February of 2020 good for her I love her we've had that songs for six years how bad does someone have to be that someone on the city council gets a restraining order because we are
tired of your comments which by the way is illegal if you can't stand the heat of being an elected official get out of the kitchen but doesn't every town have that one person oh yeah I will be my voice will be here there was I don't know if he's still alive or not there was there was a guy named Phil Klein not that Phil Klein who lived in not two elves I don't remember how many elves he had but there was there was a there was a Phil Klein who I think ran a toy store or like a not a yeah was a toy store down in in Overland Park and he would show up to a lot of Johnson County Commission meetings yeah Overland Park City Council meetings there was also another he must have been passed by now he was an older guy when I used to cover the Johnson County Commission in the late 90s he would show up he wore cowboy hat and he would show up every week and he would use his allotted five minutes oh yeah you are going to listen to what I have to say
every week they would say all right we're now open for public comment does anyone let's look at and his name every time every single week but wouldn't you rather have an educated involved citizen than someone who doesn't even know there's about to be construction shutting down the business corridor yes there's a happy middle somewhere don't get me wrong but you you would rather have someone who's engaged and asking questions the the television stations and newspapers don't have the staff to send to the the county commission meetings anymore well somebody's got to pay attention right the the traditional media as we we have known it is is definitely dwindling I remember you know when when I covered that was my beat was Johnson County and so every week I went to the Johnson County Commission meetings the Overland Park City Council meetings when I covered the Johnson County Commission there were three reporters there every week every week we had our own table and I bet you now no one covers it unless there's something major going on so speaking of speaking
up in a decision that one council member describes as quote heartbreaking the leewood city council has voted to follow their public works department advice and not install any sidewalks on some of the streets leading to Brookwood Elementary near the site where a child was struck and killed by a car if you remember this story the sidewalks were being considered all up and down that old historic stretch like you think Lee Boulevard right which is essentially where that accident happened and you remember the city said look we can put in sidewalks here we're going to have to take out all of these trees we're going to have to take some of your property to do it and wait for it you the homeowner are going to have to pay for it which is unfair that which is a non-starter on the rock and site in the neighbor who take the vote please down being greedy sorry sorry yeah
this was the story you guys that pitted the young families with small children against the established people our age and older who have been there forever and said look kids have been walking and writing to school for 60 years over here you're going to take all of our trees and my property and you're going to send me a bill you know expensive sidewalks are they're not cheap and then I have to keep it up because now it's technically even though you have the easement it's my responsibility the city council said they are heartbroken but they had to say no I actually agree with the city council and I'm sorry for the parents who are upset but you the city just can't go ripping people's property out from underneath them and then force them to pay for something that other people who don't live on that street are going to use including here for one of the council members it kind of breaks my heart that we're not going to put sidewalks in there because I think in the long run we probably will want sidewalks in there it's sad to me because clearly there are kids who would use it and it would make them safer but here we are when I lived in Roland Park there was
a sidewalk on my street but I lived on a pretty major street in the city but you go a little bit a little bit farther in on some of those neighborhoods and there were streets with no sidewalks most of Waldo doesn't have sidewalks yeah 49% of those surveyed along that corridor were in favor 49% and then the child died and then parents started packing city council meetings which if you were the parent of a 10-year-old or like you would say why don't we have sidewalks yeah 913 5 8 6 7 7 9 8 there are five foods that scientists are pointing out could increase your risk of dementia more than six million Americans live with dementia with an aging population and rising cases of conditions linked to dementia like obesity that number is expected to double by the year 2060 would you care to guess any of the foods that they cite and it's and don't think potato chips it's it's much more general than math is diet soda on the list number two
any any sugar sweeten beverages like soda sweet tea and sugar is fast food is 60% increase yeah cognitive decline by the way fast food on the list kind of sort of yes number one is process meat like bacon sausage hot dogs and deli meat listen to this as little is 25 grams of process meat a day think two slices of deli meat is associated with a whopping 44% increased risk of all caused dementia wow 52% higher risk of all timers and most people are washing that down with the diet code yep number three is fried fish number four is refined carbs like white bread pastries and pasta and number five before I get to number five what was that sir oh I just this is all stuff that I tell people not to eat I'm just loving this list this is great saturated fat comes in at number five that is
red meat dairy pastries and fried foods fried fish is interesting to me specifically they are calling out fried fish I think it has to do with how much of the oil seeps into the meat itself so you're getting a higher concentration of those very very bad high inflammation oils oh and by the way those who ate more fruits and here you go Sam you're gonna love those oh all right I'm loving the whole thing uh there's a line in the story those who ate more fruits and vegetables drank more coffee tea and moderated their alcohol or had a plant-based diet read that vegetarians were at a lower risk of dementia 913 586 77798 you feel uh vindicated now I don't know about that last bullet point but yeah 913 586 77798 here on Damon Parks a beautifully designed square space website is the difference between thinking about photography

think about that thinking for an hour and a half as someone who has to open dozens of new stories prior to the program I was averaging about 48 seconds per news story which you and you normally average how many seconds per news story to load into the queue two yeah seconds yeah wow guy was just sitting there watching the circle go around around oh what so they've done the math crunch the numbers okay and they have figured out if you are a daytime coffee drinker not just copper two in the morning okay but you drink you know at work or early in the afternoon late in the afternoon what time you need to stop drinking coffee the cutoff time if you don't want to disturb your rest at night and it's in hours okay so let's say I go to bed at 10 o'clock that's exactly the time they cite in this story you should have your last cup of coffee at what time if I go to bed at 10 o'clock is it like 5 p.m. 5 p.m. you're going to be up late really oh yeah 2 p.m.
you're closer 1 12 p.m. should be your last cup of coffee oh my gosh because it stays in your system that long it says here your last standard serving or that's something else analyzing 24 studies scientists concluded that coffee should be consumed last at least 8.8 hours prior to bed time to avoid disrupting your rest so if you go to bed at 10 o'clock 1 12 is your cutoff time wow and believe it or not coffee and caffeine don't actually give you energy what is it they block the receptors that make you feel tired so it's sort of the opposite yep they just don't make you feel tired which is why you have such an aggressive crash because you no longer feel tired so you don't rest so you go go go go go that tiredness then compounds and once those receptors are no longer blocked roughly 8 hours after you drink it boom you crash okay did you see today real quick
this idea bless their hearts I don't know if it's back open did you see that shoppers today at the price chopper in Overland Park had to yes put a little pause on their grocery run when this is the one over at 87th and Santa Fe over by anyok 2 elderly people were in a car and they accidentally went I don't know if this was a we're hitting the gas instead of the brake situation did they put a parking spot inside the store yeah more drive a drive through you more of a drive through situation got it building inspector has since been called to the scene to assess the damage you know it was it was a mercury grand marquee of course it was what else would have ever been anyone under the age of 85 driving a mercury grand marquee no nobody under the age of 80 drives a mercury anything whatever they make bless their hearts I think they're okay you know they're okay yeah accidents happen back to our caffeine conversation very quickly from the text line so
would that apply to soda as well yes yeah it's it's caffeine no soda after 112 according to that study you think if you were in the soda aisle at the price chopper they allowed you to check out what yeah I would hope so I'll do self-check out obviously um you guys have other things to attend I can exit stage left instead of um what is that in that plastic cup I did it's been so long since I've done this I made a Starbucks run on the way into work uh oh and it has been is I bet it's been seven months since I've been to the Starbucks okay and what is in there uh I have consumed about a fourth of it no that's three fourth it was an ice no look it's cool oh look oh I see okay it is an iced latte it sounded really good at the time and then how's it going to sound at about 10 o'clock night no as soon as you said that I'm like man it's five it's five the barista wrote it's very sweet with a little heart she would enjoy on the cup and I'm like
you're going to be enjoying this at like midnight when I can't go to bed a sperm whale cracked the hole of a yacht sailing in the south pacific forcing four sailors into a day and night fight for survival on the high seas this is a very remote and when everything's remote in the south pacific crew members on the 52 foot yacht encountered a pot of sperm whales 250 nautical miles I don't even know what that means north of some very tiny island okay there was a loud thud said Australian gemicouper the whole boat was pushed sideways not knowing it first what had happened she noticed a brown discoloration in the water and a sperm whale and in her pants they basically floated aimlessly at sea with their broken yacht for 18 hours I'd rather be stranded at sea on a yacht than like in a dinghy says here at 1 p.m. New Zealand time on Saturday about 30 minutes after the collision with the whale they activated the emergency beacon 30 minutes you waited okay and they declared a
