2:01But for right now we're in the throes of it and it is obnoxious. Uh-oh. I'm a big professional wrestling fan. You don't say. So one of the things that got me into professional wrestling was looking at professional wrestling magazines when I was a kid. And pro wrestling illustrated was the wasn't is the best wrestling periodical that's out there. Each year they come up with a top 500 wrestlers and they just came out with it. And now they are tweeting nonstop reactions from some of those wrestlers that they have. And hey, there's a campley PWA name me in the restaurant number three 55. I wasn't even ranked last year. And it is absolutely flooding the timeline and I apologize for that. And if you could bear with it for a day or two, it'll, is it'll die out and you'll hardly ever see it. Okay. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't even noticed. But if I do notice that it's becoming obnoxious and it's, uh, I'm just saying, because over tweeters. The weekend's done. It'll be over.

3:01Some of the over tweeters out there. It's like, bro, yeah. You know, you looked at and you're I mean, you can mute it a little bit. I suppose I could do that. Maybe I'll do that. Can you mute it a little bit or can you only just mute it? Yeah, but that's it. Then we won't see it at all. Yeah. But, uh, no, we're good. It was getting out of hand. Apology accepted and not necessary. As far as I know. Okay. Uh, all right. So, JV Justin Verlander. Final start tomorrow. Um, look in the in the big picture. It's not what we wanted. Watching the White Sox celebrate last night. It's like, uh, I feel like that's our spot. Like the White Sox got our spot. They're the team that. You know, assumes the man of the overlooked American League central team that nobody thinks is going to do anything and that's fine. Um, the season was, was a bummer and acknowledge that. Take it very seriously and then place it over here and enjoy them all.

4:01And tomorrow is. This guy is a legend of Detroit. It's too bad. They never won the World Series. It's one of those things that I would probably have a hard and fast rule. If I were an organization to get your number retired, you got to win a World Series or be a Hall of Famer. Uh, if you do one of those two things, if you're like a key player, huge player, star player on a World Series team, you can retire the number. If you're a Hall of Famer, you can retire the number just to take sort of any questionable decisions out of it. But, um, just a pure moment of fundamental for JV's final start. Before we get into listener participation with this topic, can you find somebody on Twitter that did something exceptionally cool with Justin Verlander? Because people are making the comparison to a 40 year old picture named Billy Chapel. If you don't know who Billy Chapel is, Billy Chapel was the name of a character or a picture for the Detroit Tigers in the movie for the love of the game.

5:01A movie that I actually saw. And it's sort of him and a crossroads in his life. He's at the end of his career. He finds out that the team is getting sold and the new owners are going to release him or trade him or something. And he's got personal issues and he's taken them out for, I think it was the last game of the season. He's 40 years old. And throughout the course of the game, basically the plot line plays out that that's it. He's going to retire. This is going to be his final start. He's going to be back from an injury. He had an off field injury where he almost cut his hand off in a woodworking incident. Yeah. And Kang found a Twitter account that actually took cues from the movie. Any cues that were out there and pieced together Billy Chapel's career numbers. It was able to sort of put together what kind of picture Billy Chapel actually was. So we can maybe go further or see that the comparison to JV is ridiculous.

6:06So what do we got? Well, first of all, the answer is yes, it's ridiculous. Yes. But with that being said, oh, because one's a movie in the other's real life. Yeah, maybe that might be part of it. With that being said, though, this guy, he did a great job of you asked me because he just took cues from the movie. Like you said, Doug, like Vince Scully said he's trudging to the mound with over this many innings and this many strikeouts in his career. So he took all that into account. He took the, you know, the years the Tigers were good into account like the, because he has him. He just took everything into account. The pictures are pitching during that era. Everything that was going on. And I got to tell you Billy Chapel's career numbers are quite similar to Justin Verlander's career numbers. Really? So the people that are texting is with the ridiculous comparison are actually kind of close and kind of funny. So in what ways? All right. So Justin Verlander, Gator, do you want to pull off his stats real quick? Sure. His career stats. Yeah, career stats. I've got him in front of me. Gator, you. Yep. All right. How many games did Justin Verlander pitch in?

7:09He has a pitch in 556 games. Billy Chapel pitched in 600. How many innings did Justin Verlander pitch? 3571. So Billy Chapel obviously played more games. Obviously. He pitched more innings 4100 plus innings. That's okay. How many wins did Justin Verlander have in his career? JV has 266 wins. Billy Chapel has 288 wins. How many, let's see, you have a strikeout. How many strikeouts did Verlander have? Justin Verlander's 3554 strikeouts. So Billy got more crafty later in his career only at 3243 strikeouts. Yep. Okay. Anything else you want to know? How about Whip? Whip? Billy Chapel's career whip. Do you want to go first? Sure. 1.13 for Verlander. Oh, way off. Chapel 1.15. Billy Chapel is Justin Verlander. So who do we credit on Twitter that did this?

8:15Let me go find the account. Somebody on Twitter took the cue. Put it on WordPress. I don't know what that is. You could make something up and I'd probably live it squid 316. That is a great name. First of all, Live it squid. You're the best. Bravo. So there's 315 out of the live it squids. Yeah. 1.16. Um, piecing together Billy Chapel's career stats based on cues from the movie. It really does comp to Justin. Do you have any stats on Gus, the catcher? No, I think it's come on. Get on and live it squid. Jesse Riley with the actor played the catcher. I don't even remember that. JK Simmons was the manager for the Tigers. That's really cool. Um, okay. We want to have a little fun. You know how we do predictions for like the Lions?

Yeah, there's that too. I mean, obviously, all I really want to see that I will deem the day of success, then seriously will mean a lot, I think. Strike somebody out, man. That's why I got the one. If I'm determining this, I'll go 150. Let's put it in perspective here, okay? Yeah. We both said that's absolutely ridiculous, right? Yeah. What's ridiculous? 150? Yeah, 150 pitches might be. Dave Rosema. When he pitches, if you got these corporate outings, they'll happen all the time of a American park. Yes.

17:21Hey, come on out there batting practice. Dave Rosema is going to pitch to you. Dave Rosema throws probably 300 pitches. He really does. And he tops the entire time. Yeah. And he scares the hell out of everybody by snapping off one curve. One curve ball. One curve ball. You're right. And he's amazing. Yeah. He's awesome. He's perfect for this. Why can't Justin Verlanger throw 100 pitches? I mean, he can't throw a hundred pitches at it. Because you end up a hundred miles an hour. You end up looking like a position player throwing at the end of a game. You're just lobbing it up there. Yeah, that can get him probably. Yeah, more than likely. Yeah. Do I think he's going to get anywhere north of 70? No, I don't. I just, I hope he's happy with what happens. Are they going to have the net out there that they use like the home run derby in front of Verlanger so he can screen screen screen screen? And over the third inning the screen comes out. Protect myself. Scott writes in Verlanger line eight and two thirds of a perfect game.

18:23Then Moonlight Gram will pinch it and line one to the scoreboard walk off the field and turn into Bert Landcaster moon like Graham. What will Jamie do? No Roy Hobbs appearance. No. I mean, strike somebody out. Strike one guy out. I think he'll do that. I guess I don't know. I'm in the first inning. You get to get it over in the first inning. Strike somebody out. I wonder if in any way the pirates are going to be complicit at this. And just are they going to put out a dog lineup? Because they did game this matter. Dog lineup. Fair enough. Even doggy or lineup and even doggy. And just tell the guys swing it everything. I don't think that's going to be the case. Because it was a 10 Williams last at batty hit a home run and isn't the rumor that they told him was making man was it was the last at bat against the tiger is the rumor is the dynamic claim just groove one to him.

19:24Yeah. Because hey, he's Mickey Mantle. I don't think what's the hitter's version of grooving one. I mean, just you just swing it. Swinging or not swinging. I don't know if just a verlander has that same rapport with the players that Mickey Mantle may have had back then. It's a little different here. Yeah, I'm not sure. Like just looking at the players on the roster for the pirates. So what they've done this year. They've got a couple of decent players. Let me get some more predictions here for what JV is going to do tomorrow. Let me find the first one. Hold on for a second. Cut and paste it into her. It's mezzat work. Mezz writes in five and two thirds, five strikeouts, three walks, three earned runs. Craig and Grand Rapids, JV's line, three and two thirds, three strikeouts, three runs against. Chris and Arizona, five innings, four strikeouts, three runs.

20:27Pat in Rodney. I don't know where Rodney is. Three and a third, two hits, two strikeouts, one earned. Paul and Brighton, seven innings pitch, two hits, no runs. That'd be Billy Chapel, man. That's about... So when verlander gives up a home run, you think he'll want it back as like his last ball. You have to trade something to a fan to get the ball back. Is that something pictures want? I don't even know. I mean, he might want his last strikeout. That's different. I'm just looking at the line of the pirates put out yesterday, and then one, two to one. Their first four hitters are pretty tough. Yeah. Maybe, maybe. Let JV start the second inning. Have an opener? Yeah, I have an opener for JV. Give him a chance because if you don't think he's going to be able to go five, it's going to go four innings, and then qualify for the win. I don't think they're doing that. Joe and Kenton's... Maybe those four... Maybe those guys don't play. That's why I get into was Pittsburgh going to be complicit here.

21:29Wait, is Doddy Kelly still manages him, right? Yeah. Dude, they're going to put out a dog lineup. There's no way to check it out. They have a dog lineup. They are not. Yes, they are. No, they're not. Joe from Kenton, six innings, six strikeouts, no runs, 90 pitches, two walks. Kanger, we like the worst predictions of everybody? No, there's some really bad ones. There's ones that are worse, but for example, someone I think wrote in, like, 12 earned runs. They're not going to leave them out there for 12 earned runs. That's why I didn't put that in there. Even you are on the low side of what the fans are predicting. Good, people are optimistic. They want to see him go out on a high note. There's nothing wrong with that. These are harmless predictions. Don't be disappointed if he, I just want to strike somebody out. Strike somebody out. Strike somebody out and then throw the ball around the field. It would be awesome if whatever, because I suspect although there's no given, I suspect that the last batter he faces will be the last batter he faces. Will not be the third out of an inning so that they can go get him and everybody will know this is the moment. And to make it like realistically perfect, not a Billy chapel, not an in perfect game, which isn't realistic. I hope whatever inning it happens, the first or second out, I hope his last batter is a strikeout. I hope he can walk off on that note.

25:34That'd be great. I hope he's throwing in the mid 90s. And I hope that he, you know, every once in a while might touch 96 97. I think that'd be kind of cool. Just show that he's still, he's still guy. Because one of my other memories, it's not a great memory, O'Jastin Verland. But it's a memory that stands out is when he was in the All-Star game years ago. And he was trying so desperately to hit triple digits on the, on the gun. That's all he wanted to do. And he ended up getting sheld in the All-Star game. And it came off the field kind of, you know, smiling, laughing about it because he was there to try to do one thing. Because it was, because it's the All-Star game. All right. Here's more predictions. JV line five innings eight hits allowed two walks, five Ks. That's from Nick. Sean at work says JV one and two thirds, 54 pitches, one strikeout blows out a killie's torn rotator hyperextensible. Sean. I mean, no, you cheek bite. I mean, this is one of those deals.

26:38If it were you, would you be like, yeah, I don't care how much it hurts. I'm going to pitch as long as I physically can and until I'm giving up like hits every batter. Would you try and do that? Or would you actually try and leave it in an effective way? I mean, for me, and only would be my last start ever, I'd go until I was getting hit. Or if I could just sheld. Yeah. Well, not even. I mean, just like, if I'm in pain, but I'm still fine with the strike zone and guys aren't hitting it, I'm going to keep going. If I'm in pain and I have no command of the strike zone at all, then take me out. I don't need to go out like that. Or if I'm in pain and I'm throwing a ball and they're killing it, might be three hard hit balls in a row. And then maybe that's it. You got to go. Do you guys think JV starts crying at all? Not because of injury though, just because of the emotion. Emotion at the moment? Yeah. We see some tears. I don't think so. I bet. I bet yes. He doesn't strike me as the guy that does that. I think he's just going to be happy. I think he's big smile the whole time.

27:39I think he cries. I think he does too, because he doesn't strike me as the guy who would have done that. But I got to tell you, I got to order. I started crying at the most ridiculous crap. And I'm like, what? Did Mr. Collins open? I've seen this before. Why am I crying? Do you remember my moment? Everyone said it was because of the kid and even though I denied to the state, when Tiger won the Masters again. Yes. And then he went and hugged this kid and I said, man, I had a tear in my eye and I was like, I don't know why. And I was like, could you get it? Because you got a kid now. I was like, that's not it. It's because of Tiger. I love Tiger so much. And I was like, no, you had a kid. No, it's because you had a kid. I think when JV's done and he's getting off the mound, he looks over at Kate and his kid. And he's, and I think I think exactly I think so too. And for me, it was 100% when I had a kid because I had a control group. I saw the movie Mr. Collins open. I saw the beautiful boy scene. Then I saw it after I had a kid who was sleeping on my chest as I rock back and forth and I burst out crying. Same movie, same scene. One big variable changed. Dude, when he looks over at his family, he's going to start crying.

28:39I agree too. There maybe, I mean, there are certainly life events will change your focus and your perspective without question. The monster's gone. He's on the run and you're going to want to. I don't need you to cry like crazy here. It was bad, man. I was balling. John and Warren, come on guys, JV pitches every day. Just not to legit competition. Four innings, three runs, two strikeouts, two walks, 65 pitches. Doug and Traverse City goes three and a third, one on run, one walk, four case, 48 pitches. 29:40I think Jim Leeland will cry. Yeah, Jim, there's no question. That would be cool. Some people suggested, maybe do it. Because didn't. Who walked that? Did somebody, Andy Pettits last start? Did Jeter take him out? Something like that. There was something related. So he ain't he related. So I forget the hell with the Yankees. So I messed up the details. And I know it was Pettit or if it was Mary Ann Rivera. Somebody, you're right, though, is someone with Jeter and A. Rodden did something. And you don't have to call correct this because we really don't care. But it's happened before. Ah. You don't have to call a cry. We really don't care. No. Nor should you. Sorry. It's happened. It would be neat. And it would be cool if Derek Jeter came out and took the test. Yeah, I just thought, man, maybe down to come out. Did they sell the game out? Because they were earlier in the week. Yes. They did sell it out officially.

30:40The only thing they had, this is as a three days ago. The only thing they had left was standing. Standing up. Yep. Oh, and good moment. Have fun with the people. Have fun with it. All right, Gator was a little disappointed in you. I know. Maybe disappointed isn't the word. I'm surprised. You put on your show sheet. It's like I look for alternative ways to spell necessary. Like what's another term I can use?

31:40I'm telling you. It's not required. I can spell required. It's not necessary. I got no shot. I get, I'm so far off unnecessary. Spellcheck doesn't even suggest something because they don't know what the hell I'm trying to spell. But this is National Case a day. So the thing about the case a day that's, I'll admit something here. I don't think I had my first case a day until like a decade ago. I had passed and passed. And passed. I never, whenever I went to a Mexican place, I never ordered one. Ever, ever, ever. And then somebody had one and it was with and I'm like, it looks pretty good. I should try that sometimes. I know it's weird. Dude, that's so crazy. Checking case ideas are available on like every menu. It's the easiest thing to make. I know in the history of making food that requires you turning on like a stove or something. I mean, obviously making it sandwich is easy enough. But if you have to like turn on a stove and use a skillet, it's the easiest thing in the world.

32:40That's what makes it so great. And there are no rules. You just basically have to have cheese. You just have a plain cheese case idea. You want to throw some chicken in there. And they're tremendous. Yeah, they're tremendous. They're great. I saw a recipe yesterday for one. A pan case idea. Well, this woman, she takes all tortillas, puts them on a sheet pan, puts in your filling in the middle of whatever and then starts folding everything over and bakes it in the pan as one giant case idea flips it over when it comes out, flips it out and you cut it into squares. It looked delicious. They're fantastic. Yeah, dude. I mean, I'm like to the party. Okay. You've been like to the party on stuff. And you like them now. Yes, I do. They're great. But I just never ordered them. But the case idea is they might be the best handheld like food item because it's clean. You know what I mean? It's not like it's easy, accessible.

33:41It's delicious. Of course. When I go to a simple Mexican village downtown, they're great. There are two things that I typically get, maybe three, I guess, but two or three things I typically get. One of them is a case idea and it's just a plain cheese case idea with served with guacamole and jalapenos. And then I got put a little bit of salsa on there. It's just simple and I love it. I love it. The melda, it's the cheese part. It's that melted, wahaka cheese or whatever. No, it's not the wahaka cheese. It's basically a monitoring jack that they use, but it's a Mexican version of monitoring jack. It's chihuahua cheese. I think is what it is. It's so good. It's just that simple. So I felt like out of all the days you put on the list, if you had to riff on one of these topics, it would be casodya more than any other more than national daughter day, national one hit wonder day, national comic book day and lobster day. Maybe one hit wonder day. You could riff as long as you did on casodya.

34:44I mean, I could talk about one hit wonders. I know. Do you have a favorite? Young MC, Busta move. Yeah. I mean, I don't know if other people would say there are more than just that song from young MC, but that's the one everybody knows. Yep. That would be the one I'd go for. Although there's a few from the 70s. I'd have to go back and look. Is it a Pablo Cruz? Pablo. Right. It isn't going all yatt rock. Yeah. Who does a ace? How long has this been going on? You know what that's about? That's about their base player who left for another band. Everybody thinks it's about a woman, but it's about you know, it's crazy. It's not their base player. I think I heard that story a week ago. Did you? Yeah. You were late to the party. Don't even know who aces, but I happen to be hearing that story. Okay. And they, you know, we were talking about Justin Verlander's last start tomorrow at Kamehraka Park and they sold the place out. And it's going to be fun. I mean, it's unfortunate that the game doesn't mean anything. It's unfortunate. They had the season he had. That's a bummer. It's unfortunate that the Tigers faded and it upselling is what it is. And that's that's something that's always worthy of discussion. But we're shelving that over here. We're going to put it over here for a minute just to talk about what could be a fun day at Kamehraka Park. Wednesday, Max Scherzer made a start for Toronto.

39:55Right. He went five innings and he struck out seven. He now trails Justin Verlander by four strikeouts in this career. In his career. There is a rumor out there and people are reporting that Scherzer is talking about pitching on short rest on Sunday so that he can get more strikeouts than Justin Verlander. What do we say Verlander has three thousand five hundred and fifty four strikeouts. Scherzer has three thousand five hundred and fifty. Scherzer wants to see JV pitch. See how many strikeouts he has. And then come back on short rest to try and pass Verlander.

40:55This is a weird petty bitterness. What? JV has announced his retirement. Am I correct? Max Scherzer has not. Right. I don't think Max has, but the running is on the wall for Max. His last two seasons last year. He in 17 starts had a 5.19 earn run average. And this year he's had 17 starts and his earn run average has jumped up to 6.14. Right. He's on the wall that he's probably not going to pitch for anybody next year. Who's going to want to sign him as a free age? Yeah. So maybe he sees it coming. Maybe he sees he's 42 years old. Don't tell him Scott Harris by the way, Gator with that. Sorry, you're good point. I have a good point. So. I don't know if his numbers were that bad until I just saw them, but yes. I mean, what? It's that deep.

41:59That sounds like some petty hatred. I don't know if it's hatred. I think it's just competitiveness. You think? Yeah. That's all. He's competitive. I can't remember. They try to pull him out of that playoff game a few years ago. He was not having it. I'm not sure if it's a good point. But he's a good point. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I love this level by the way. Whatever it is, spite competitiveness. Yes, it is. It's fantastic. It's looking at Max's game log to see like you think I strike out totals, right? So. His last game, he struck out seven in the five innings. Prior to that, his strikeout totals are three, three and two. And then he had a ten strikeout performance in seven innings against Seattle at the end of August, which was his best start of the season. Wow. When seven shutout innings with ten strikeouts, that's what he's holding on to is thinking he

42:59can still recapture that moment or literally every other game has been so much worse than that. So if I'm JV and I'm aware of this. Well, he's aware. Okay. You are then doing everything in your power to strike out as many as you can. This is the type of thing that if it were me, okay, and this is how I've operated my entire life. I wouldn't care until I find out that that guy cared enough to pass me. And this happened to me when I was coaching baseball. I seriously went into games saying I want to play a good game. I want our team to play well. And if the other kids make on the other team make great plays, that's awesome too. I was a high five. The other kid when he makes a great play, you know, shake their hands and you're going through the handshake line, great outing son, that kind of thing. Where if both teams played well and they beat us, that's fine. And the winning and losing, the winning was important.

43:59We were trying to win, but I didn't care that much until the other coach turned into a DB. If the guy we were coaching against or the parents cared way too much and were way over the top, then it was like, F, these people, let's beat the rass. And so if I'm JV, I pitch as long as I can, strike out as many people as I can, then I walk off the field and Sunday I'm watching the blue jays rooting against Max Scherzer. If Scherzer hadn't said anything, I wouldn't care. And I guess Scherzer hasn't said anything other than the stories of reporting's out there. But I, then I would care because that petty S O B wants that only he only wants to do it to beat me. So F that guy. I mean, it's funny to me because the two pictures have been, I mean, they're two Hall of Fame pictures, right?

45:00Scherzer has pitched 500 innings less than Verlander. It's like, dude, you've already better at striking guys out than just a Verlander was. I know he's got more than you, but I wouldn't make this a big thing just so that you can be ahead of Verlander in the all-time list. And you've been better or strikeouts per nine. But that's now how different guys are, guys are wired differently. And we know that Scherzer for sure is wired differently. So Rock writes in on Twitter or a Twitch rather. I wouldn't be surprised if Scherzer and Jamie joke around with each other about it as well. Do you think they joke around about it or do you think this is actually a rivalry? The way I interpret it is I think that Justin Verlander can joke around about it, but I think Scherzer takes it more seriously. That's just the way it looks or the way it seems. I don't know if Max takes things way more seriously or not or if that's just the persona in front of cameras and microphones. But I don't know this is a fun little story.

46:00Evan, we were talking about this in the office. Evan, our webmaster. Do you think they like each other? Not at all. And I think it's the greatest rivalry that helped the Tigers. Because they each wanted to outperform one another, but they don't like each other. That it was very evident when they were on the Tigers. You never saw them talking with one another. They always made what did you guys call Max when he was here like self gratifying Max or something like that. Both like that. They cared about their stats and was their stat better than the others. And I love it. And I wonder how many teams have this rivalry going on that pushes their players to be that good. Yeah. Yeah. The fact that if Scherzer comes back on short rest, then we'll know obviously we'll know that it's true. And I'm rooting against Max. I'm rooting for JP. I don't know what to root for because I like them both and they both left. And it did really great on their other teams.

47:00No, I know Verlanders here. I am going to go Saturday. I'm going to be happy you've seen him waving his hat. But boy, I love this rivalry. And the fact that they've talked about it for a week now, well, he's going to come back on short rest at 40. 42. Yeah, he's had 40. He's over there. I think this is, I think it's a no brainer who you root for. You're rooting for JV. He's a tiger. And the bigger reason is Max chose to leave. Yeah. You know, Max was only a tiger for a few seasons. He had two really good seasons with the tigers, won a Saiyong with him. And then said, you know, I'm kudos to me. I'm bet on myself. I'm getting out of here. JV never wanted to leave. And he went on to some better things when he left. But he had a great career as a tiger. But it also took him to be 43 to come back to the tigers. It's not sure. Back when he was on the wall, but I don't know who knows the sky. I tried to get that done earlier or not, but I think JV never wanted to leave. All right. We got some good news on the Lions as far as who is expected to play on Sunday.
