My wife has got jury duty this morning. Oh boy. Um... So far they've called, you know, and this is not regular jury duty. This is one of those jury duties that could be 18 months. Oh my god. And it's not every day for 18 months but you gotta like, at least check in or show off one day a week. Oh my god.
Yeah, she had one of those before during COVID where it was six months and you had to be there. It was down when we lived down South near Trenton and she had to be in Trenton every Friday or virtually every Friday in the middle of COVID from for a six month period and it was all day. And it was like grand jury, County grand jury and like, yeah, cheat. I don't know what it is but she's got a grand jury magnet on her. No, when you do, when you do, or just a jury duty, when you do jury duty, do you get paid for it? Yeah, but like, I think it's like 40 bucks a day. 40, yeah, old. That's not, yeah. It's not, it's not a lot. It's not nothing, but it's not a lot. So you get pulled away from work. Mm-hmm. And you have to do it. Yeah. And it pays you nothing for it. Yeah. That's how that works. Listen, we can have an America talk if you want, but that's. I'm not there.
You never been called for jury duty? I'm sure I probably have, but I never had to worry about it because I was playing in the NFL. So people took care of that for you. Yeah, I never had to worry about it. Like you get a notice for some of the thing, like give that to the team and they'll take care of it. You don't have to worry about it. Like Murphy, can he help me out? Yeah, he's exactly Murphy. Murphy's the best. Yeah, he's the big dominant. Oh, for sure. He was big down before. Big down. Yes, he was. Yes, he was. Yes, he was. Murphy in a row. A long time. Yeah, but no, listen, I get it. I wish I hadn't been called. I haven't been called once. I don't know, but five, six years ago, but she has a magnet. No matter. Like we move. And within weeks of when we move, she is, oh, let's get her. And she's got some. Maybe a big diamond into it, but
It's a team that is better, that is learning how to win. And I'm going to operate under an assumption, and I know it's an unfair one, that they stay reasonably healthy at all the important positions. What you've seen through three weeks has changed your opinion at all about what the jet ceiling is. Here's what I will say. I think there's progress being made, but there have to be tangible results. What I mean by that is this, based on what it looks like, it feels like it's leaps and bounds better than where they were at last year. Yes. But ownership, the front office is going to need more than that from AG. If you're going to be able to justify him keeping the job, keeping the role into 2027. And so this can't be a moral's victory type of season. They got to actually find wins. They got to be able to stack them. And I will say this, I understand everybody looks at the jets and they're like, oh, circle
that one as a win, pencil that one as a win. But based on the upcoming slate of games, I mean, the Cleveland now is not a guarantee. No, Cleveland is not a guarantee, but I mean, it's winnable, but it's a winnable game. Yeah. But I would have said two weeks ago it would have been a guarantee. Yeah, but I mean, here's the thing. Ironically enough, the jets are favorite in that game. So like, you know, there are, you look at the next four or five games, you're saying to yourself, okay, you could see a pathway to where the jets can give those teams problems. They've got the Chicago Bears on the road, Cleveland Browns at New England, Miami at home and then Las Vegas. I thought the jets were being treated like the jets beginning of the year when they're over under was five and a half. And six of their games are the dolphins twice. The Titans, the Browns, like they had six games where you're like, they had six games where you're like, oh, if you just win five and one, let's get me one more and jets of one six for the year, like more than winnable. I don't sit here and tell you now I'm scared about.
Well, just because they go over that five and a half win total coming into the season, that's not good enough. No, it's not. That's my point. My point would be there should be other games that you should be able to find a way to win and get to that seven or eight and really start to feel like you're going somewhere. Yeah. The talent is there. The one thing I would say is this offensive line has got to be better because it was supposed to be a strength and they did not impress me last week and it wasn't simply about the end of the game. It was more about earlier in the game when they were early Russian for and getting home. That was what was bothering. Yeah, especially the Detroit lines. That's not a team that's known for their four man rush although Aiden Hutchinson is an absolute dog. Yes, but it wasn't Hutchinson. It was the guy on the other side that got you. Yeah, yeah, so I mean, they've got to they've got to find a way to clean that up. They've invested too much in that area of their football team for that to be a source by that supposed to be a source of strength. And right now it's not, but here's the thing. I don't think it's had an adverse effect on the version of Gino Smith that you're getting
because Gino, even though he's gotten knocked around a little bit, has still found ways to be able to manage the game and still being able to throw strikes. That's the way he's got to throw that he had to keep the scene. That was an absolute dark. There's a hell of a catch by Cedig, but it's a it's a gutsy throw by Gino. And those are the types of plays that you're going to need him to make with a little more frequency. If the jets are going to run into some wins here in the heart of their schedule. The best part about Gino is I don't feel I feel like he's made those throws and at the same time he hasn't put the ball in harm's way and nearly as much as I would have interested I would agree with that. Yeah. And I think that's that's an incredibly positive development. Well, I mean, yes, but for a player that's been in the league as long as he has, you would expect that the floor would be a little bit higher relative to some of the quarterbacks that you've had around here recently, not named Aaron Rogers. Well, but see, here's what's funny is we bring it to the giants. We all argue about they had the best backup in the league in James. Tom, right? Don't call them a backup now.
No, because he's the starter now. We made sure to point that out. If James is the best backup in the league, Gino establishes what the biggest difference is between the low end starter and the high end backup. There is a massive line of demarcation that exists right there because I get it. It's fresh off the bench and then it's bad weather. You know, see it soon here, bud. And see it soon. Otherwise, it is going to be JJ McCarthy time. Yeah. I want to give guys a reason to show up in the building and through the first three weeks of the season, no quarterback has a worse QBR than James Wednesday. And Chris, I know the guys love him. That doesn't matter when you can't play at some point after a few years. I don't care how much they love me. Can't play dead. Carlin, and you got to give the guys a reason to show up to the building and things are only going to get harder now that you have no Brian Burns. It's not going to be easy. They've got to find ways to be more effective in moving the ball and scoring some points. I don't care how great your defense is.
Your offense has got to be able to compliment them in some way, shape or form. And right now your quarterback play is so bad that it's impacting every facet of not just that unit, but the entire team. I can't. I'd never expected him to be this bad, but you also, when you have a high end back up quarterback as you thought you had, it's somebody that's there to play two, maybe three games at the most. And then that's it. It's not to play 15. Well, I think what's fair to criticize the Giants is that they have a backup quarterback that from a play style and athleticism standpoint is nowhere close to resembling what their starter is. Right. Right. So now everybody else, everybody else has to change what they do in order to give the backup quarterback a chance to be able to have success and execute. And I think bringing in Jay Jay McCarthy gives the Giants an option where you can see some more parallels in terms of how they play the game with football.
Now I'm not going to see here and say that Jay Jay McCarthy is going to be Jackson Dart. Nobody is right. The Minnesota Vikings gave up on him in less than three seasons. But I will say from an athleticism standpoint, from a talent profile standpoint, Jay Jay McCarthy is closer to Jackson Dart than James Winston. The big blue report brought to you by King Soion. Did you like the trade? Yeah, I thought it was, I thought it was a flyer relatively low risk. I'm not going to say a fifth round pick is nothing. But if you're a New York Giants, it's hard to be pot committed to Jackson Dart, given what you saw last year, all the trips to the blue medical titan, the concussions. And then this year his season being over two games in like you have hope for the future and that Jackson can put all these injuries behind him. But I do think that the Jay Jay McCarthy trade is not just a flyer for this year, but it's a potential hedge against the future. If Jackson Dart turns out to be a guy that's off injured and can't be available for your
team, it really drives home the greatness of Eli Manning because this is not something that the Giants had to worry about for a decade and a half of football because he played every damn game. Since they drafted him in 2004, you didn't have to worry if Eli was going to be the starting quarterback, you didn't have to worry about him missing a game due to injury. Yeah, it's amazing that we forget how important that is in all of it, which is, that's the most, her man was said it best. They felt it. The best ability is availability. In the New York Giants, the two guys that they have dubbed, quote, franchise players at the position post Eli Manning, Daniel Jones, Jackson Dart have both have their careers with the Giants interrupted significantly due to injuries. We've been 11 different starting quarterbacks for this team since Eli Manning. Here's the thing that I was talking about earlier in the week prior to making this trade. You're moving enough in the right direction. We're talking about the future with Jackson Dart and what the hedge is.
This is a low risk one. I might have, I might have, and I don't know that they could have even justified doing, but just to kick the tires, maybe they did. I might have called the dolphins and said, what's up, Malik Willis? You just lost a chance for the year. Maybe we think about doing something like that while I still don't have to pay Dart. And that way, Malik's been a backup in the league. He's the guy for the rest of the year. Maybe I can actually do something with him the rest of the year because here's my thing. We're sitting here for the rest of the year. It's going to get worse at some point here. They have a bad, very tough schedule second half of the year. Listen, you can't count wins against Arizona, buddy. It's coming. I can't, you got to be careful with that now. No, I can't. I can't say that this is a given because they have played better than I would have expected. No question. And resets more than serviceable. Yeah, that's the guy that we love to have as a backup quarterback.
Yes, that's a professional quarterback. Now, you can't count games. How do you look at this from a giant perspective from the rest of the year? Like is it Jason was in here the other day? I know you guys have him every week. Yeah, I'm recording. Yeah. I'm playing McCarthy next week. I'm handing him the ball next week. Just as soon as I feel like you understand the playbook enough to protect himself. Yeah. Yeah, he's in again. Just let it fly. Yeah, what do you got to lose? Yeah, but that's what the whole the rest of the season is losing anyway with James Winston. Why are you going to lose with the quarterback who's been in the NFL for over a decade? Yeah, at least you can lose with the young guy having the benefit of experience. And maybe at the end of the season, he's able to put, put enough together where he turns into an asset for your team. Does James feel it all to you? Like he's just, he said he's the starter now, right? But James to me is just, he's good being the backup.
And I'm kind of building toward that next career. And every press conference can be my audition and that kind of thing, you know? Like I don't know how much this is just as important to James as it used to be. I know that's a tough thing to try to hang on. Yeah, I don't know that I want to question his sports character in that way. Because I don't know. I would just say this for somebody that's been. I'd say he's not trying. No, I don't know. Yeah, but I get how important it is to him. I'm not going to go to that place, but I would just say this. He's been in the league 12 years. He can't beat this bad. Not this bad. Yeah, big fellow. It's been awful. Like the best thing the Giants had going for him on offense is that the other team couldn't score because it was a monsoon. Like I was a bit like, how many games are you going to win in the NFL kicking four field goals? Like I just, you know, not in today's game. I mean, unless you got the 2000 Ravens or the 85 Bears, you know, you've got to have more
production. Let's hit a couple of calls here. 800 939 3776 Dave is in the car. He's up on ESPN New York Dave. What's going on with Chris, with Chris Canty. Thanks. Thanks for having me on guys. I'm just going to throw some spin on this and see what you guys think. I'm grateful that the Giants have hall bars of coach because I think anybody else on that sideline would have been trying to write out James Winston and Paradeum in front of this New York crowd. And that would have been crap. If the Giants managed to win six to eight games, if McCompton shows us something, and by the way, I'm sure his brother is downloading all the information from Michigan and all the everything he knows about him to his brother. I'm going to send him to the center. I'm going to send him to the center. Yeah. So imagine if there's a, imagine if this guy has a decent season taking over from Jameson. And imagine next year the Giants go in with two young quarterbacks who were proven in college, who were now in FF competing for a job.
Everybody come in. Come down, Dave. Let's not. If, if, if, if, if that's so nice. He was the 10th pick in the draft and two years later he's traded for a fifth. Something's going on. He's been in disappointment. And it's not just the injuries. I read the athletic story yesterday that, you know, tried to outline everything that had gone wrong. And it just sounded like he's immature. And you know what? He was he 21 when he was drafted? Yeah. Like he's a young guy. He's still 23. So yes, you could still be an idiot. But like if you're McCarthy right now, this is your career. What's it? Well, yeah. And I think that, you know, moves like this have a way of reframing it for players. Because in his mind, I'm sure he still feels like he was a top 10 pick. But the reality of what he's been able to prove on an NFL field is that he's worth a fifth round. That is humbling big fella. And maybe having that reality being crystallized in the form of his trade is exactly the kind
of motivation that John Harbaugh is looking for and something that he can use as a coach in order to get the best version of JJ McCarthy that we've seen in the NFL. At least I'm sure that's what the Giants are anchoring on are hoping for. So we'll see what ends up happening. But either way, whether it's good, whether it's bad, I think that it was a risk worth taking if you're the New York Giants. Should the Giants have been more involved on the Joey Porter junior front? No. No. Okay. Why would you give up significant assets for this team? Why would you mortgage the future? I mean, that that that second round picked for the New York Giants could be really, really valuable in 20, 20, 20, 20, 27, depending on what the Steelers would have asked for. So no, okay, because there was the top that earlier in the week that they might be. I don't disagree. I think Joey Porter is a good corner. I don't think he's the corner that he thinks he is.
Well, he hadn't given up a touchdown pass since we gave it to 2023. So he's got the longest streak of coverage snaps without giving up a touchdown pass, right? So he's a really good football player. He's a really good football player. And beyond that, I think there's a dog goodness, a toughness that he has, that he adds to any team, to any defense. And I love that. No surprise given who his daddy is. So I don't think the Giants needed to get involved with that just because of the cost. If you're going to make a decision like that and you're going to pay a player like that what he's looking for, you've got to be ready to win right now. See, here's why I disagree with that first. And clear the Giants aren't ready to win right now. No, but I agree, but it's a young player and it's a guy that, all right, I'm paying him, but I don't mind paying him because I feel like maybe next year I can do something. If I have everything in place and that would immensely help a weakness on my team.
Okay, next year do what? Like, I guess that's the point. Next year be a playoff team. Okay, big fella. I'm saying when I say do something, I mean be a legitimate contender like Super Bowl. I can get to the Super Bowl this year. That's what I mean by making that kind of move. See, that means I don't always speak of like the, the veteran is in the prime of his career as opposed to somebody like Porter, is he 25? I don't, yeah, he's very young. He's only been in the league a few years. So that's why like it might have made a little more sense. I wouldn't have just, oh God, we have to go do it now. No, of course not. Yeah, but I mean, think about the cost. You've got to remember it's a sliding scale, right? It's not only the pick that I'm giving up, but how much is it going to cost me on my salary cap on an extension? So you're asking me to give up a second round pick, which could be at the top of the second round. So glorify first round pick and pay this player 30 some odd million dollars a year.
That's a lot to give up for a team that's trading for a player that you're not expecting to realize the full return on that investment until a season later. Rest of the division, is he going to make a huge difference for Dallas? Yeah, I think he's going to make a huge difference because they should have been. Well, I mean, listen to have issues getting to the quarterback. They ain't going to have issues doing that no more because the defense accordingly can light them up now. Yeah, I can send pressure. I can let him go. I got Doron Blano on one side. I got Joey Porter, Jr. on the other side. I got Caleb Dallas playing the nickel. I feel good about what I'm bringing to the party with my secondary. I can be a lot more aggressive with what I'm doing in terms of manufacturing pressure with my front. I don't want to go on the road to go. Why not? Yeah. Yeah. I completely disagree with enough. Like if Joey Porter, Jr. wasn't around for the real game, even though it's an awful call being a man coverage in that situation, maybe it's not a 27 year old completion with Zay flowers and they do the get down for the game when he'll go. Maybe just maybe. Well, here's the other part.
Back to James back to the Giants for a second. This more and more by the moment is feeling like it's going to be a missed opportunity because the rest of this division in the early going, I know the early going does not look great. No. No. No. It's not like it's a very least listen. Again, my goal for both of these teams prior to the injuries was give me the thanksgiving and have it mean something. Yeah. I don't feel like I'm going to get there now with the Giants. No, no, not with the Giants. And certainly doesn't feel like it's trying to wait with the commanders, even though they ran into a nice win last week. I'll say this about the Eagles because it feels like it's a two team race in the NFC East. It's talking to Dan Oloski this morning on my show and sportsman like and he made the point he said everybody on Philly's offense is learning and you know, he's as wired in and Philly as anybody is. He said everybody on the Eagles offense is learning and that includes offensive coordinator Sean Manion. What worked in Green Bay won't necessarily work in Philadelphia with your personnel and
what schemes those guys are accustomed to trying to execute. Remember, the Kellen Moore tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles was so successful because he was able to marry the concepts that guys were familiar with with some X's and those that that that he knew and he was able to sequence them in a way that everybody could get on board with and made everybody comfortable. So I think there is a learning curve. I say all that to say this. It's like there's a learning curve for Jalen Hertz living with you know, an offense without AJ Brown and doing new things and being under centimore. There is a learning curve for offensive coordinator, Sean Manion and right now it's clucky and it's going to feel that way for a while. It's going to take a while for that to in Philadelphia to fully bake. And so I do think there's an opportunity for the Dallas Cowboys to close the gap. That was the big blue report. It's brought to you by King Sohion, King Sohion, best slider and football. How are the Browns three and one?
They played well. That's how. Ish. They're well coached. It's hard not to like him. They're well coached. Yeah. So I'll start there. That defense has a lot of guys that are playing really good football. I think a lot of people did not realize that Jared versus a really good player. Yeah, you didn't cover himself in glory last night. No. Offside in a couple of no-brainer situations that can't happen. But I will say this, the rest of that defensive line, Mason Grand before he got hurt was an early candidate for defensive player of the year. He was that good. But they also have guys like my call Junior and Malik Collins that are awesome. Aiden Huntington stepped in and played really good ball last night. He had a whale of a game. I think he had three quarterback hits tackle for lawson, a quarterback sack. He was awesome. You got Isaiah McWire. You got plenty of guys along that defensive front that can put pressure on the court. And they got after Roger's ass. I mean, they hit him 14 times or they pressed him 14 times, hit him eight times, sack him five times. That's playing pretty good ball.
Yeah. And most of that damage was done in the second half. And I say this all the time about sacks. It's not just how many you get it, but it's when you get them. And when you can get second half sacks fourth quarter sacks, that matters. And they did that. Killed the drive after the TJ White Force Fumble at the end of the third quarter. I called Junior with a big time sack. He beats the left guard. So they're playing really good on a defensive side of the ball. And then Deshaun Watson is playing really good in the big moments in the game. He's got three game winning drives and two fourth quarter comebacks. What he's doing is undeniable. And it looks like the version of Deshaun Watson that we saw in Houston. What is the biggest surprise positively, negatively for you and this league? I ask a lot of people this early in the season because we have teams like the Raiders who were three and O and they have not played a ridiculous schedule. But everybody looked at the Raiders like they were going to be a win for them. And then you've got teams that are O and three like Tampa Bay that no way expected
to be there because what has caught you off guard? Good and bad. Well, I mean, is there anyone that's bigger than the Cleveland Browns? No, I don't think so. Not a three and one. I think the other one that's probably the biggest surprise for me is how bad the Tampa Bay Bucks are. Yeah, they too. I did not anticipate that. And, you know, maybe retroactively the loss to the Browns doesn't feel as bad after we saw last night. But talking to Adam Schaefter, two weeks ago, and then again this past week, he said that the Browns loss is one of those moments that sticks in the mind of ownership. And then you think about the loss to the Minnesota Vikings and the decision by Todd Bolz to go for it on fourth and 13 in that game when he's got a bank full of time outs. And you've got a minute, 45 o'clock left. You're down for it. You could have put it in a way, played defense and have enough time to get the ball back. But instead, you opted to go for it on fourth and 13. Against the offense. It didn't hit you.
You don't get it into ad injury to insult your quarterback. It's hurt. So I. It's. I can't. I like it. Like right now what's going to happen? Jalen Daniels, the rookie from Kansas is going to have to step in and save Todd Bolz job because right now I'd be surprised if he makes it through the season. Yeah. And I hate that because I think he's a good coach. I think he's a good defense in mind. I think he's proven he could be a head coach in this league. But he's trending toward getting fired in Tampa. Yeah. I'm just I look at that in the way that went and it made absolutely no sense whatsoever. And then I look around the league. And every time we think a team is really bad, they do something like the Falcons did last with. And every time we think a team has a chance to be really good. And maybe people were writing off the Eagles too soon. They go out and lay an egg like they did on Monday night. Well, here's the other thing. We thought the Mime and Dolphins would be really bad this season.
Guess what? They're really, really bad. I've done two of their three games so far. Yeah. I can confirm big fellow. They're spending more on players that are not on the team than players that are on the team. 65% of the cat. It's incredible. 65% of the cat. Incredible. It's dead. It's hard to be good in football when you're doing that. Which is why I brought up the willister. And here's the thing. You watched the game last week. They actually weren't horrible. Let me tell you something. They're chiefs only going to get a real rookie Jacob Rodriguez. Oh, he can win. My God. Yeah. Oh, buddy. Yeah. I understand a lot of reasons to watch the Mime and Dolphins, but watching him play, I mean, it reminds me of watching Zach Thomas play. Yeah. I played with Zach when he was in Dallas, but man, it reminds me of that. Like he has many in devil out there. He's awesome. Good. Sandy. He's going to make a lot of tackles too because he's going to be out on the field. Yes. And there's going to be a lot of people attacking. Yeah. We'll see you next week. Appreciate it. Oh, man, you got to give me your predictions.
Jets, Jets. What we looking like. Listen, I'm going to give the giants a benefit of doubt. I have seen now that the Cardinals play well. And I've seen them play poorly because that week two loss, they just got bombed. Yeah. I don't think the giants will lose this game to the Cardinals. Okay. I don't expect that. And I unfortunately feel like this is going to be another close loss for the Jets. I think they'll be in it. But the problem is I just don't know if they have enough offensively in this game just to beat the Bears. And that's that's kind of an indictment because it's what it's saying to me is I don't think the defense is going to respond enough against the back. There's a must win game for the Jets. So let me say it differently. There's a must win game for Aaron Glenn. You can't you can't you can't you can't be a troublesome. I'm just saying this is a must win. You want to prove to me that things are different. You better be able to go on the road with a rest advantage against the team that has their
backup quarterback in place. You better be able to go on the road and get that win. You want to prove to me things are different. You better be able to go on the road. I actually included the Jets in my in my card this week. Picks that I like. I like the Jets getting three and a half points and I'm going to tell you this. I think they're going to win outright. Okay. All right. Any other pick you want to go? I mean, I'm not as confident this week with the Cardinals with my giants as you are. Well, listen, I'm not going to say that the giants are going to lose. I'm just going to say I'm not as confident. I'm not as calm. I mean, I need my key card to still work. I was going to say I'm not as confident as you are in the giants against the Cardinals. It's any man. Good to see you too, brother. Take care of those terrorists at home. Oh my God. Just need a good weekend of sleep. That's all I need. Have you done the thing yet where they talk about just rub a little bit of the brown yesterday? I can neither confirm. Give it in some of the little. I can neither confirm nor deny your boys under lean.

Wherever you get your podcasts. Bob is up on ESPN New York. Hip hop, what's going on? How are we doing? Oh, I'm doing well, Bob. How are you? OK. Good. I have a little bit of a problem with the last conversation with Chris Kennedy. First of all, he says that the Cowboys would be better off getting to got poorer than the Giants would and how the Cowboys get in a completely way. It's got a quick and a 2008 pick is a much more valuable coming from the Giants than it would be coming from the Cowboys.
That's a big assumption. The Giants beat the Cowboys first of all. Is it the iron? Easy on that. Listen, I understand what you're saying, but they beat the Cowboys with Jackson Dart and now Jackson Dart is out for the year. I understand that. I just want to defend Jamie's a little bit. They just signed him to an extension. They didn't sign him to an extension if he couldn't play. All right. They saw him in the game. They didn't sign him to an extension to be a guy that could play two or three games if they needed him. It was not to be the guy that's going to now play 15 days. No, not the BBI. Yeah. I understand that, but that happens with backups all the time. Unfortunately, I made you realize the season. And those backups usually get exposed for what they are. Do those backups usually get exposed for what they are? I think so. I mean, but he's 32 years old. He's a formidable and picky. He's got a lot of talent. He hasn't played very good in the last couple of games, but to just dump on completely when he played in a month, two and a giant also learning a new weapon. Yeah. Listen, I understand where you're coming from on all of it.
We'll find out Sunday. How about that? Because Sunday feels like it's going to be hit for James. It feels like beyond Sunday, we're going to be talking about Jay Jay McCarthy if James is bad again. James plays well. They might stick with him for another couple of weeks or a week or two. But it just depends on what that looks like. And then he'd go back to be in the backup. Jay Jay McCarthy, the giants probably brought him in to see what he can do. And if he can't do much on the practice field, then you will see more of James 800 9193776. I just don't expect. I can't. And we can talk about the excuses all you want off the bench, playing through Montsoons, all that stuff. Okay. I can't keep making excuses for him. And at some point you have to play better. It's not the entire offense, too. It's really on James because they are changing things around him.
James has to be a lot better than he has been. Otherwise this is going to be a quick experiment. And the rest of the season. Well, you know what that is. Let's get to it. Side line to side line. Hit it. It's going to happen. This. Side line. Side line. Side line. Side line. Side line. Go, go, go. Hi Tom. Hi Chris. You know, I always love this segment when I try to adjust the cameras right before we get to it. And then I turn the camera in the opposite direction of where I wanted to go. I thought you were going to say like you adjust the camera. And then I do this thing where I sit up in my chair and adjust myself and move myself three feet to the right. Well, that happens a lot too, but that I'm used to at this point. I just serve you up the old screw job on that one. Yeah, that's right. Except that was me because I moved the camera in the wrong direction. All right. Speaking of wrong directions, the Steelers, you don't want to lose games to the Browns and that's exactly what they did last night. And Tom, yeah, no problem. And your favorite quarterback in the world, Aaron Rogers and his former head coach now, current head coach Mike McCarthy.
At one point they seemed again to a little bit of a rift in the middle of the game when it comes to calling the offense. It looked like that Rogers was upset that he didn't get a call, uh, relate to him in time and then he said some bad words and then like McCarthy said some bad words about him. Like he said something that was completely appropriate. Well, let's hear from McCarthy post game about what happened between the two lovebirds. Communication sometimes is not the best choice of words, but everybody's competing on the field. I think, you know, um, what's said on the field, the way I grew up in this game, you know, and usually stays on the field. That's not the case today. I understand that, but yeah, any negative communication on my part, I wish I wouldn't use those words. Listen, I have no problem with McCarthy because he's not wrong. He's not wrong at all. He is a blank and blank. That's exactly what he is. And it's never Aaron's fault. It's never Aaron's fault. You could see it in the eyes the way he looked around after some of those plays after the interception
earlier in the game. You could see it. Oh, this guy, this guy stinks. This guy's bad. This guy. What's this guy doing? Never Aaron's fault. He had a certain level of respect for Mike Tomlin that he does not have for Mike McCarthy. That's just very clear. And this is. I would love to see a situation. I know that he threw for 299 and 3 touchdowns and they almost won the game. I know. I would love to see a situation where he got caught before the end of the season. I would love it because it's. He's just such a jackass and it's impossible to watch. And listen, from the Brown standpoint, that's a heck of a win. They did a great job. And being at 3 and 1, they have earned every bit of it. And I'm sure the only thing that they regret is that Tomlin wasn't the coach last night. So, a monk can say Brown's going to Brown's again. Anyway, go ahead Tom. I wouldn't even be a Missed Miles Garov very much. So, you know it's good for Cleveland.
Yeah, listen. Cleveland's new. They're due to have their moments. Yeah, especially because it might not happen in the post season this year when it comes to the American League. But that's not the point. AFC. American League. You're so playoff locked in. Yeah, I'm talking about the baseball team there. Cleveland baseball team. Oh, that's right. That's me. I'm an Eddie. That was a little cross sports, you're getting there before you actually start smackin' them around. Well, listen, listen, listen, listen, as I once said. Next. So the Chargers are not a good football team right now, and a lot of that has to do with the offense, and Jim Harbour was a little bit critical of Justin Herbert the other day. Yeah, there'd be better, there'd be better. That drives Justin, that drives me, that drives, that drives his position coach, that drives Mike, the coordinator, I mean, drives us all. Yeah, be better. That's exactly why I told Justin Herbert, and then he'll compliment him to left and right afterwards, but that's not the point. I'm reading this morning that Mike McDaniel, the new offensive coordinator, the supposed offensive genius that Jim Harbour picked up off the street to Miami.
He is taking four responsibility for the offense at the moment, saying, guys, it's completely my fault, I'm going to avoid the blame on this one. So I'm going to ask you this, Chris, we thought Herbert and McDaniel would probably be like this special thing that they have going on in LA, but is it possible that this is going to be a one and done between the two? With Herbert and Mike McDaniel, I think it's possible that McDaniel's out after the chair. I don't know why it took me so long to get to that, but yeah, I definitely think it's possible that the Daniel's out there. Like the quirkiness of Mike McDaniel only works if whatever he's doing offensively works. I don't believe Mike McDaniel, all of a sudden, became an idiot. It is possible that we have all overrated Justin Herbert just a bit. It's definitely possibly part of the equation. So I will absolutely blame McDaniel, but I think Herbert certainly bears some of the responsibility from us.
We know it's going to take the fall. It's not going to be Justin Herbert. Next. Just a few injury notes that I'm seeing pop up on the timeline. Travis H-hand or Travis Etienne, as we called him before last season before he corrected everybody. He's being put on the injured reserve sideline and him for four games with an injury down there. And of course, the big injury that we're all going to be talking about in regards to the NFC East is Jane Daniels, because once again, he has been ruled out for this Sunday's game. That is against a cult over in foggy London town, a nice 930 AM start to the Sunday for everybody. I can't wait for these 930 AM games to begin. You know, I listen, I get the point. I know we got to grow the game and it's got to be global and all that crap. I don't love the 930 in the morning game. If I lived on the West Coast and we were talking about a 10 AM game in place of the 1 AM or 1 PM games, then yeah, I'm on board with that. But we now go 930 AM until midnight.
That's a lot of football. And there's nothing wrong with a lot of football. It's just those are usually not the cleanest played games over in London. And that's kind of what I'm expecting this week. Next just one more note. If you didn't hear it earlier, the Jets have ruled out Breeze Hall at an I Mitchell Mason Taylor and left guard Dylan Parnum on for Sundays game. And they're also going to be down. I was going to say CC Malinoa. That would be Kiki Malagoa. They will also be down as well for Sunday. No, it's Malinoa. He's his brother. No, yeah, again, I'm an idiot. Oh, peeps. Oh, peeps. That's what. No. Now, Kiko and CC are brother. Yeah, Malinoa. Yeah, it's not a good day for Tom Bauer right now. I'm over two in that department. Kiki Malinoa. There you go. I was ruled out for Sunday. Now, enough hose and smooth.
That's Tom Bauer. That is sideline to sideline. Carlin 800, 999, 3776, Tom. Oh, Tom. Tom, hi. Remind me. I believe within the next 15, 20, 25 minutes, we might have a frenzy of football. Oh, the big original segment for the show. It is the original segment for the show where it all began was right here. And it seems such a big segment. They have stolen it on other shows. That's what happens. That's right. And we only do this segment on Fridays, which also happen to be football Fridays. Exactly. What do you know? The other show. Oh, we started doing it on Mondays too. Oh, good for you. Good for you. Still doesn't change the fact that the frenzy of football began right here and the football frenzy from the morning show is a rip off. So I would encourage you. So today on his YouTube channel, BT on leased had Aaron Boone on the show this morning. Let's get you a little bit updated on some of what Boone had to say as the team is down in Tampa getting ready for some workouts. First of all, here he is on judges status for the division series. That'll be one of those divisions like tonight. Like we get with him and you know, and I'll get with the trainers and strengthen conditioning and see where we're at and see what level of option is he. And then we'll make a call on it again. So the good news is it's gone well just over two weeks from from the injury and he's trended in a pretty good way. Like it's not just, oh, he took some life. Like, you know, tried to sell people like for him to go out and be able to take live BP starting a few days ago was significant because strengthening conditioning and the trainers would not have allowed him to do that if he didn't check certain boxes and meet certain markers. That's a good thing. So I don't know how it's going to go yet. It's an important day of getting through and we'll make a call tonight.
And then there's the follow up. How much say does judge actually have on playing? You know, he's he's our captain and obviously been here a long time. So he's just trying to have like him have an honest voice with us. An important part of the conversation about letting us know where he's at where what he thinks, you know, he's able to do. But ultimately, you know, trainers medical me, we have to sign off on it and be okay with it. And listen to him probably as much as anyone. We're going to trust him as much as anyone. But ultimately, you know, we have to make a tough decision one way or the other based on the, you know, what we think is best for the club. Here's a question. Based on how we have seen Aaron judge act when it comes to injuries or when it comes to this, you know, stretch over the last few weeks when he got annoyed with the comments by Boone. Do you think Aaron judge is going to be honest about where he is physically is as a captain of the team is he capable of knowing when he would actually be a hindrance to the team
as opposed to helping by being out there? I think deep down he knows I don't think he would I would like to believe as the captain that if he knows he's not where he needs to be that he's honest about it. I would like to believe that's the case. Now everybody wants to be out there. That's that's the push in the pole that is constant with the players who are competitors like judge. You know, you have to drag them off the field to get them off the field. I would like to believe when it comes to the post season and giving his chance is to win. Judge is going to be honest about that. Personally, I am not playing him this series. There is no need to play him this series. There is no reason to play him this series. And I understand that the rays are a really good team and a step up from the Red Sox.
What I would tell you is they're not they need judge when he's playing to be playing in the field. They're not going to play him on the turf in Tampa. And that's two games. So then you're going to play him at home and game three. All right. Game four you're going to play him back to back days because those are the only games games three and four that are back to back days in the series. Are you going to play him back to back days? My guess would be no. So that probably leaves you at a pinch hitting situation. So you got judge for three at bats there. Four at bats or one at bat in the three to four at bats in the first game. One at bat in the second game that he can play games three and four. And then what about game five? You're going to D HM because then that's going to cost you another bat somewhere else. Are you getting enough from him so far? Is four at bats?
Enough reasonably to have Aaron judge on the roster. It's not. It's not. As you move into these five game series, even with the extra days off that will help. I would not want to hamstring myself when it came to judge being very, very, very limited in what he could do. You could do that with Stanton in round one because it was a three game series. And you were talking about one at bat. Can you do that in a five game series? I don't think you can. We'll get more Yankees in. Friends of football is on the way shortly. On this football Friday, which is of course, brought to you by our friends and draft Kings. Graph Kings. The crown is yours. Thanks for listening to the Chris Carlin podcast.
