On a friar cast on a Friday with Indus on a Thursday because photogirilus Roberto Costanari is now replying out here to Milwaukee. We're currently at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We are getting ready for our powders. Workout today. Brewers are finishing. There's up right now. We're going to be talking about the National League Division Series. Get ready for what should be a fantastic series between two very very good baseball teams. They're really two hottest teams in baseball down the stretch.

This should be a very good one. I am your host Derek Togerson. Thank you to OGs for all they do for the Omfire podcast. They're your sponsor. We got a quick one today. So let's without further ado, get to that walk-up music. All right. How's it going everybody? Yes, the pograss are in the National League Division Series after sweeping the Chicago Cubs. On Wednesday night at Pitco Park and that place was absolutely, it was it was wild. It was incredible. It was a fantastic atmosphere. We love seeing that from the friar faithful. But now they get to come out here to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They get to

see it with a very very very good Brewers baseball team that won a franchise record and MLB best 103 games this year. Now the pograss of course also did sweep the Brewers but that was back at Pitco Park back in August. We're talking about right now two pretty different baseball teams but they are in arguably the two hottest teams in baseball in the second half of the season. The best record in baseball after the all-star break belong to the Brewers. They were 43 and 22 right behind them for the San Diego pograss. That's 42 and 23. So a one game difference between these two clubs and they tend to do things just a little bit differently. The Brewers rely on incredible starting pitching. I mean Jacob is Rouse. He's going to be starting game one for this team. He's going to be the side of the award winner. He has set records in his first full year really as a starting pitcher. I mean it's kind of wild to think the last year. They were wondering if they were going to even put him on the Division Series roster because he was so young in the game. He was a rookie. He was the guy who can be having throw this many innings. And then this year they

kind of you know watch this workload a little bit but now it is a no-brainer. He is absolutely the runaway style young winner and we'll be starting game one of the series. But the Padres interestingly in this ballpark earlier this year did win a game that Mizorowski started and that's what I want to get to here because we're going to find out today who the Padres starting rotation is going to be. Obviously Michael King is going to be lined up on regular rest for game two. So he kind of has to be the no-brainer there. You get him on the mount as often as possible without risking any kind of injury with how good he was in game one and as a slightly over two ERA in his postseason career he is fabulous when the lights shine the brightest. So you're going to have they were here against Mizorowski and he had a lead when he came out of that game. There's a two one game. But then the Padres got to the bullpen. Gavin Sheets had a big home run off the bullpen to give the Padres a win in that game and that's really what you have to do when you're dealing with these elite starting pitchers. The key is you don't have to beat their starting pitcher. You just have to make sure he doesn't beat you which means you have to keep the game close enough and that's why

this Padres team is so uniquely built for the postseason because you just don't let the starting pitcher run away from it right you can't be down six to one. I don't expect to come back if the Miz is going to go six seven Ains. You don't have enough time to make up runs after that. Can you get to him early? Sure maybe you can but you don't have to as long as you're pitching and your defense it's keeping you in the baseball game. I want you to do that you get to a game where you can one swing of the back and win it the Padres have shown they have a much better ability than the Brewers to do that and Milwaukee scores a truck loader runs but they don't hit the ball of the ballpark very often. So higher bird up they don't put the ball out of the ballpark very often. In fact Brewers next to last and Major League Baseball last in the National League in home runs the Padres didn't really 30 more homers this year than they did. So if you're looking for an offense that in the postseason maybe not be as conducive to winning in the postseason when you're facing the best pitching you're facing elite bullpen arms sometimes you're not going to string together three four five hits in an inning and that's really the way the Brewers score

majority of their runs they do everything extremely well they extend innings they are pesky they will just single single single double double single they will just keep finding ways to get on base but they really don't have that bopper or that ability to consistently hit the ball out of the park in the post as we've seen and the Yankees just showed this against the Red Sox in spades if you've got guys who can leave the yard in the hurry and get you those runs with just one swing instead of needing four or five guys to be able to do their jobs you I think have the advantage of course that's not the say the Brewers can't do that in the postseason I'm just saying that is the reason that when they ran into the Dodgers last year first the Cubs took them to five games in the vision series and then they went and played the Dodgers and got swept out of both buildings and it wasn't particularly close because the Dodgers as we know we've seen it far too many times as San Diego Padres fans the Dodgers hit the ball out of the ballpark when they need to Freddy you'll lose one show hey you'll lose one Mookie you'll lose one they got Kyle Tucker who's hot he can lose and they got they got so many different ways to beat you like that and the Brewers

really don't have that guy and that's why it's so interesting that they're really good in the regular season because they just do everything so consistently well they never have a low because they are just so fundamentally sound hitting behind runners doing a lot of kind of old school national league a small ball kind of things but they don't beat you with the long ball at least not consistently so I think the Padres have a big edge in that when you're talking about if it's a close game who's going to be able to not manufacture a rum which is so incredibly difficult in the post season but get you one with one swing of the bat so definitely would have to give the edge to the Padres in that regard also these teams are very hot as we go into the post season the Brewers clinch the NL Central the long before the season was over the clinch the number one seed in the last week of the season over the Dodgers who also want 100 games by the way this Padres team though 18 and three in the last 21 games that's obscene that is absolutely obscene by the way 19 and signals are 20 and six now just they brought up Ethan solos and Ethan solos could very well be

starting behind the plates in game one we're going to find out what the lineup is are as well and I would absolutely endorse and support that decision by manager Craig Stamman because yeah I know he's 20 years old he's been in the major leagues for five minutes in fact he is going to retain his rookie status for next year just think about that for a second at this kit who has been so good for this team who has come in and set records being the youngest player to hit two home runs in a game youngest catcher to catch a major league baseball post season game he's technically going to be a rookie next year and you're going to talk about the absolutely overwhelming rookie of the year favorite next year for for major league baseball and astral league it's going to be Ethan solos and he's really figured out this game but he's a left handed hitter miserowski is obviously a right handed pitcher I haven't seen really solos be overpowered by anyone yet so I would have no question that he's probably going to be the guy behind the plate now if he's not obviously who is compassano has got a lot of experience ready for means got a lot of experience like he's

got they can handle themselves I would certainly not put it past Craig Stamman say I'm going to ride the hot hand and I'm going to put Ethan solos out there because as we saw with Michael King in game one of the wild card series you worked really well with the waste compassano and with Freddy for me and we did he had he took a no hitter into the seventh inning so he can work with those guys in two of the series with the guy who's probably not going to be as dominance as miserowski is Logan Anderson's like we're going to be there their starter in game two also a very good underrated young pitcher without again probably be a Michael King game so we're talking about a team that is playing so well and as such good vibes going on like that's that's the reason I think bottom line they kept Ethan solos on the wild card roster is he's like the the vibe commander in chief I mean 20 and six since they brought him up and it is not coincident by the way they lost the first two games he was up in Cincinnati so technically it was all of 20 and four stretch with that kid being on the line up on the team and they just everyone seems to have

kind of tapped into their youthful enthusiasm right and something in the celebratory clubhouse on Wednesday night that was really really cool talk to you Ethan solos said he was he absolutely loves the way that the guys the veterans on this team have accepted him and brought him into the fold and they really rely on him and they've learned to trust him and that's his growth and his maturity and his ability to be productive he had a 417 average after starting over 15 at the plate he went on an absolute heater and by the way his first ever postseason at that how impressive flicked out a line drive knew we had a runner at third base less than two outs just hits a line drive to centerfield and what do you know sacrifice fly brings in a run in a very close baseball game oh because the paul has come in after their for their workout right now in fact should be should be walk on over and kind of let's give you guys a little look here there's anyway Mason Miller is walking over there is he talking to mr. outskie yeah so but he's got he's a guy who absolutely throws the ball very hard as we know as

pot raise fans being interviewed gotcha see how so yeah Mason this place used to be called Miller Park and I think when he gets in the game it's very likely going to be now called Miller Park again it's American family key of course but he throws you know 103 104 mr. outskie also as a starter throws 102 103 104 so if those two guys both get in the game in the same day oh this is going to be an absolute treat for baseball fans because it also means that the pot raise will be in a position to win this game and that would be that would be fantastic in game one or game two hours as far as we go after this so to see just the pure arm talent the pure arm talent we got in this series is incredible I mean Adrian Moore a hole has been throwing like a guy who should be a closer somewhere he's the best set up man in basal he's the best left-handed believer in Major League baseball the fact the way that that guy has matured and come into his own is been absolutely incredible all right so let's go through piece by piece here what we think is going to happen all right we're going to go through six different sections of baseball offense

defense starting pitching bullpen vibes and the managers all right we'll start with the managers all right who's got the edge we're going to give the edge to the brewers here because as much as I really like what Craig Stamman has been doing of late still don't know what he's going to do decision making wise in a close game although I give him all the credit in the world for putting Gavin Sheets in as a pinch hitter in the last game that was a absolutely brilliant decision Pam Murphy is the two-time defending national league manager of the year a guy who we know well on San Diego because after Buddy Black was let go midway through the 2015 season Murphy took over and he was a he was guy who probably was a little bit overwhelmed at that point by Major League baseball but it also gave him a first taste of what exactly is like and I think I think if you'll probably tell you himself that experience with San Diego was what really turned him to help him become a good consistent Major League skipper so edges got to go to Murphy just because he's got the resume Craig Stamman does not yet have the resume but obviously the gap is not as big as many people think it is vibes it's the fog race I mean that's what this team is that's what this

team does they play with such passion and they have got everything going for them right now I guess I know they're not a pickle park they're not a pickle park right now and that's going to make things maybe a little bit more difficult but I talked to Jackson Merrill about this and they can come out here and he says it has a really good family environment and that's something the Craig Stamman said that he started to install way back in spring training because he sat there and he told everyone in the clubhouse about his own family saying the Stamman group is a very very close knit group but he wanted to create that kind of atmosphere where players truly do love and and pull for one another and sure enough that has absolutely taken roots um Jackson has talked about it many many times about how he feels like there's a family he wants to come out and have fun with his best friends and his best friends are on this baseball team and when they get to celebrate a series win like that's he gets to do that with honestly his best friends in the world so that they have something really good going right now and I got I was around this team well should I

been around this team for 21 years but this iteration of it 22 21 22 23 24 25 26 this one feels a little different those other clubs were really good the 2022 team in which the National League Championship series was really really good the starting pitching was probably deeper and better 24 the starting pitching was probably deeper and better but this group feels different you kind of felt it all year there was just there was a closeness there was a camaraderie and that's what really has taken hold at the end of the year when they were scuplined and struggling and they went on an absolute monster tear at the end to get in and then host the playoffs series and they're keeping that going all the way through as far as they can on the playoffs they're very close they don't get on each other they support each other they take each other up so vibes absolutely go to the San Diego Padres I was talk offense as I talked about before I know the Brewer score a lot of runs but in the postseason I'm giving the edge to the Padres because they can hit for power with a lot more consistency than the Brewer's can and as we've seen time and time again the team that

hits the home runs is the one that wins I think I heard Colin Coward had a stat the other day it was that in the postseason last year the team that hit more home runs was like 30 and 5 something like that in games so yet in the playoffs power matters the Padres have the edge over the Brewer's or I starting to pay this is Jeff Lewis from Radio Andy live and uncensored catch me talking with my friends about my latest obsessions relationship issues and bodily ailments with that kind of drama that seems to follow me you never know what's going to happen you can listen to Jeff Lewis live at home or anywhere you are download the series text them app for over 425 channels of ad-free music sports entertainment and more subscribe now I get three months free offer details apply

Aski is I go with usually the best picture on the series and as good as Michael King was in that playoff debut and as good as he is in his playoff career Jacob is rousek is a different animal he's a different different animal so starting picture and they got this Anderson kid coming in behind him who's very very good as well potters have to rely on some some veterans in this series who have shown that they can't do it

but they don't have the kind of depth of the kind of length that Milwaukee has in the starting rotation so that edge goes to Milwaukee bullpen it's the potteries and no matter who they play it always going to be the potter so the brewers might have the second best bullpen in baseball certainly in the playoffs and it's still a pretty wide gap between them and the potteries anchored by mason Miller and then you have Adrian Morahal I mean David Morgan didn't even get into a game and he's probably a set up man from you know 90% of the other teams in major league baseball so he's a he's a guy who will be probably key in this series as well so the edge without question big edge and by the way they're very well rested because they didn't have to throw that much in the in the wild card series and they got to take the two days off after sweeping the cubs so they're going to be all very rested fully ready to fire on all cylinders and also go back to the vibes thing after about to mention this there's a lot of history with teams that play in the wild card round actually big better early in series in the division series because with baseball timing is such a tough

thing to keep so a lot of times teams that have that first buy the brewers haven't played a game since Sunday they're going to go a full calendar week a full business week without five days without playing a competitive baseball gamers of pardras got two of them against a very very good Chicago cubs team just loud this is the last couple of days so they should have their timing maybe a little bit better off so I'd say early in the series that probably benefits the pardras a little bit so I'm gonna say yeah I think I was back to the vibes thing but yeah the starting pitching absolutely belongs to the brewers the bullpen absolutely belongs to the pardras defense I'm also going to go edge to the pardras here they have the second best building percentage behind the cubs in major league baseball now do they have the same kind of range and athleticism in the outfield yes absolutely they do on the infield maybe a little bit aging maybe a little bit slow-footed but they make the plays are supposed to be making the brewers again very good defensively not quite to the same level that the pardras are especially not with the athleticism of the outbuilders so I got to

give the edge to the pardras and what does all that mean well when you look at it the pardras win four of those two four of those six categories and the brewers only get two I am picking formally and officially the pardras to win the series in four games back at Pettico Park on Thursday which no way that would be Wednesday yeah game three is Tuesday game four would be Wednesday back in in Pettico Park so think of it kind of like the way that they do the way that 2022 happened with the division series they went in one the wild card against the met and then they went and they beat the Dodgers at home in game four I think this is going to go very much the same way pardras in four to win this series or got a couple of comments here let's get to them Brents how you doing Brent how will the pardras do in flipping the script last time they played a road game in the playoffs was last year and rigley and they lost that is a very good point I'll say this is a very different team and as much as I like to gripe as you know about Craig Stamins decision making in game

his line-ups for the most part been pretty good and I can guarantee you he is not going to do what Mike Shill did and stack re-left handed hitters in a row at the end of his lineup and let the cubs left hand heavy bullpen just eat them alive he's not he's he's not going to do that he's already making lineup tweaks where he's trying to get as many lefties and righties you know staggering themselves to be able to handle whatever a team might throw out them now against a guy like the mid you're probably going to put as many lefties in there as you possibly can and then do with it later on but the thing is pardras team has this year that's also a lot better than last year the bench is a lot deeper making bicks and match later in game I mean if you're talking about a Gavin Sheets and Miguel and Dohar left right DH kind of platoon system I am totally down with that that would that would I've no problem with Austin Haynes thrown in there as well you know another guy who can feast on left-handed pitching coming in late in games you're going to have probably Ethan solos on the bench one of these games there's another left-handed bat for you

I love what Jayce Bowen does coming in as a late inning defensive and speed replacements he's been thriving in that role like you told me he really is grown to accept and love that role so yeah that that's how they're going to flip the script is going on the road is incredibly difficult but there's no atmosphere like petco park and when you play in that's nothing else is going to compare so you come here you'd be like all right that's cute but we know what we've got back home so I remember the pardras only have to win one of these two games to be able to close out at petco park where they have been absolutely tremendous in the sense really since the since the trade deadline since the trade deadline I've gone I believe was 22 and five and they've been now they have scored teams vibes he was 55 runs in the regular season then add another 11 so yeah so 66 runs they've outscored other teams in their hot streak at petco park might probably throw out one of those losses that was against the diamondbacks on Friday nights where it was a night after they clinched

the playoff spot up in LA but I was in that clubhouse and it was extremely raucous in there as well and I'm pretty sure half the guys in there were still hung over by the time that we got to the game see we throw that one out teams very rarely win the day after they have a clinching scenario because they're living it up and they are having fun and that's what exactly what they should do by the way they should celebrate these things the way that they have been celebrating them um I'm brand new gonna help me co-host this show here my man which potter's team will show up in the LDS 24 scoreless like the 2020 LDS or 20 NLDS where they got swept why should fans really be optimistic about the pod race in the national league division series okay also two very good questions um again I will go back to 2024 it was about 2020 first of all they're playing the doctors they were on the road there was that was that wacky covid year that had to go to Texas um they weren't as good as the doctors were that year that's plain and simple that's I think that's just the god's truth they

simply were not as good a baseball team um and then when I think that's here is turd when Cody Bellinger robbed Fernando tockys junior of that home run that you made that incredible you know home run saving catch in center field that was kind of like that it was almost like the same thing as when potty hit the home run in game one against the cubs if pcrowarm strong brings that back in the yard it's a completely different game because now the cubs have wrestled all that momentum back right because when when my king goes out and does what he does in the first inning and then toddy he said first picture the game out of the park it's it's like everyone's frothing at the mouth and the cubs start to feel it's slowing away ready they can start to feel it's slipping away because that crowd is so oppressive and right on top of you the noise feels like it's actually sitting on top of you if he brings that back that goes down a little bit and the cubs are like okay we're here to play we're here to hang with these guys we're here we can we can you know whether this storm but he doesn't make that play and he's the MVP and a cub start to look at oh crap if pca's not

even going to make that play we're probably dead in the water and then two batters later many launches went out of the park and things just completely away from him kind of thing same kind of effect the Belinger had in that series with that catch while robbing toddy of a home run going to 2024 martin paris was supposed to start game four that's and again mic shield panicked he wanted to land the knockout punch so we threw dillie's on three days rest and that was the beginning of the end because what you do is I know the offense didn't score anything against the dodgers in that bullpen game but that has an a mental impact on everyone around you right about two minutes here I'm telling you quick story when the chargers would be really good on her marty shot and hammer he would be pushing and pushing and doing things a certain way during the regular season and then change things in the post season just a little bit thinking it's going to be a defense and run heavy game so the we do that in the player start to think why are we doing this all on we've been successful doing it like this the entire season why are we changing things now and that kind of sits in the

back of your head and now you're not completely focused or you have question marks well I think that's exactly what happened to poverty when shieldy said we're not sticking with our regular rotation we're not going to throw paris out there who was fantastic after the trade deadline by the way and then starting cease on full days rest with you garbage did the launch on alert out if he got into and well the player starts to go whoa whoa whoa what what what what what are we doing what are we doing here oh no why and then when cease goes out and inevitably almost because he does never good post season career record they fall behind early they start to think see I knew it I knew it I knew that was going to happen I made probably never admit to it but they're so again there's something the plays in the back of your head with something like that so this team very very different situation I don't think stammer's going to mess with a lineup he's absolutely not going to mess with the starting rotation he is going to I think figure out a way to keep the vibes going and keep this team feeling like feeling like it can win because in baseball belief is so so important if you feel like you can win you can't if you feel like you can't handle a guy that day

you're never going to you know if you feel like you can at least you know facing 103 mile in our fastball you believe you can at least get a barrel on it and something good might happen you might have a chance at it if you're thinking I'm overmash I just got a prey and hope with something good might happen you will never ever ever make contact with anything all right sorry about the little technical glitches in the middle of that's that is your on fire cast for the view of the national league division series pardraise brewers getting going on Saturday game one Sunday game two and of course on Sunday night on sports rap and sports night in San Diego love all your post game coverage for you on Saturday Sunday and every game here on until the pardraise hopefully have themselves a parade keep going for another room five weeks or so to the end of October although game seven would be on Halloween I'm not working that day my wife on after treating to do so let's get this all wrapped up before them thanks everybody for watching and listen I will see y'all later I'm pro football hall of famer Brian Dawkins and I live for a long time with something I did not know the name of major depressive disorder I carried sadness and
