Start today at Equinox.com. Oh, yeah, welcome to a funny feeling podcast. I'm Betsy Siddharro. And I'm Marci Jarro. This is a podcast where comedians tell us their paranormal experiences and we'd listen to yours as well. Oh, yeah. And if you have one of these paranormal experiences that you want to share with us, please email it to us at funnyfeelingpod at gmail.com. Now get cozy and prepare yourself to be scared. Silly! This is a funny feeling podcast. Oh boy, Betsy. Betsy! This is how we... Don't worry, if you're thinking the energy is off for our guests, we always do this.

This is always like our... How do we do a podcast? I thought you just named the gender. You're like, oh boy. Okay. Oh boy. That's the boy. That's the boy. Spoiler. But we aren't really excited. Yes, we're so pumped. I'm so pumped. Because we've been doing guests and we're so proud of ourselves and proud of our guests for putting up with us. So without further ado, we're going to bring on our guests, Kavidean and actor Jesse Salman. Welcome. Jason. It's Jason. Oh man, you know why I did that? I'm so sorry. Let me do it again. Let's do it again. Welcome to our guest, comedian and actor, Jason Salman. There it is. That was good. Do you know why I did that, though? Why I called you Jesse Salman? I do not. Summer house. Summer house. Oh, that was a good Jesse, dude.

A Jesse Salman, though. Uh. Boy, and he's on your mind. Now, too. So this is perfect segue because you're on tour right now, too. Right? Yeah, yes, apparently. I'm on a competing tour. I didn't realize this. Well, he's a singer, a crooner. So you're in a different, uh, yeah, league for sure. Inability to sing is really highlighted my career. So. Oh, no. Oh, no. Well, you know, no. Oh, no. No, actually, it's not true. I can sing a little bit. Oh, no. Yeah, but, but not croon. I can't croon. Crooning is a whole other level. That's a whole other thing. Yeah, not a hundred percent on the other guy being a crooner either, but he's trying. He's trying. So, uh, Jason, thank you so much for being with us. Yes. Tell everyone, go ahead and give us the rundown of what you're up to right now.

I am touring all over the US. I'm doing along like a 70 city tour, leading into my, um, yes. So I've been doing a lot, logging a lot of miles, getting a lot of points, you know, so, uh, yeah. So at the end, I basically tour so that at the end, I can use all my points to take my wife out on a decent weekend somewhere. So that's basically that's what that's what it all builds. Yeah, I don't know if you've seen the practices or the way they dull out points, but yeah, that's what we're hoping for three days. We hope for three nights. Yeah, if we can, if we can get, if we can get a Thursday through Sunday, we're winning. We're winning this game. Yeah. And I'm going to do some math, 70 cities, and there's 52 weeks in a year. How many, how long is the tour? Well, sometimes I'm doing, sometimes I'm doing one day, one place, one day, the next place. So sometimes I'm doing three dates in a weekend, like a couple of weekends ago, I did Springfield on Thursday,

Tulsa on Friday Saturday and Oklahoma City on Sunday. So that was that was my route 66 tour. And I'm at look, the parks, the parks, I met Flash Gordon, I met the guy who played J. Peterman, I met, I met Eddie Munster. Yeah, because they were doing a route 66 reality show and it intersected with us. That's awesome. Which was awesome. What kind of reality show are they doing? I got a wide audience. I think it's a road trip reality show. It might be like Great American Road Rally or something, but they were in Springfield, they were in Tulsa and they were in Oklahoma City at the same time. This is why it's awesome. Yes, yes. What was awesome is Flash Gordon coming up to me and quoting one of my jokes after the show. I was like, I can die. I can die. Yeah. It's so funny because you've been in the road. Yeah, sticking with the theme, I can come back and hunt people after it. Yes, I just wanted to tie it back. I wanted to tie it back.

That's the good thing about being someone you have a lot of content out there. You can live on as long as YouTube does, right? That's all I'm trying to do. That's all I'm trying to do. You have a great feeling about YouTube. YouTube, I have a really great feeling about it guys. Oh yeah. I think it's going to be a thing. It's becoming people are starting to hear about it. Yeah, but I mean, people are producing independent series and movies for YouTube. I actually think it could be part of saving the entertainment industry. Legitimately. It's already saving the horror industry. I mean, it's had some big successes. Yeah. That's yeah. So hey, you heard it your first. You do it's big. Yeah. You too. I was there in any places that you've been on tour where you were like, I don't know if I'm going to really enjoy it and then you have a blast. Oh man.

I guess you're there so quick that you don't know too much about you. I know, it's about to say some of these places. I will say sometimes the audience like Oklahoma City, like I always enjoyed, like, I don't know. I'd been to Oklahoma because I grew up in Texas, but I don't think I'd ever been to Oklahoma City. So I'd always enjoyed Oklahoma's just like planes, like just like empty fields of nothing. And people who spoke like my family, you know, so that was an oil. Oil, Native Americans and empty. Oil. Yes. Oh yeah. Yeah. Big oil guy. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. It became my enemy during my teenage years, but Stradex wiped that out. So we got it. Yeah. Yeah, we got that. But other than that, it's been a real synergistic relationship. But yeah, but the crowd in Oklahoma City was so, sometimes you have a crowd who the way that they laugh,

sometimes you're just like, I'm going to sit back and enjoy this for a second. And you just sit there and listen to them laugh. And it's the best. The best. It's the best. We're just like, how is everything I'm saying and doing just destroying you? This is awesome. Yeah. Yeah. And you probably have the feeling of like, they really needed me. They really needed this. You're welcome. I'd like I'd saw more often than not I go, I really needed them. I think that's that's yeah, it's a lot more. It's a lot more therapeutic for me. I think. Yeah. Well, that's very nice. You're, you know, you're very humble and gracious. That's true. That's all I was going for. Thank you very much. And with that, I'm going to be gracious. Yes. All right. Tell them a wife who said that she will have to believe it. A woman said it is more believable. Yeah. Oh, yeah. She doesn't take anything. I tell her my friends say. Yeah, my God friends. No, useless.

What part of Texas are you from? Dallas area. Oh, big. So I'll get big oil, big oil. Yeah, well, not the biggest oil, but my family's from like West Texas, which is all oil. Like it's just yeah, everybody. Like the dumbest people I knew growing up, you know, from my family just became oil people and are now could buy and sell me. You know, I took the first time. I had a rich friend. I have in New York. I had a lot of rich friends because that's who lives in New York. Right. I was in 80 years. You have rich friends and poor friends. Nothing in between. Yeah, I was one of the poor friends. Yeah. What? What are my rich friends? I didn't know how he was rich, but I knew he was from Dallas. And then I went to Dallas and I saw his last name on a lot of overpasses and stuff. Oh, really? And I was like, like, Parkway's his name. What was his last name? Karuth. Karuth. Yeah. Karuth Haven. Karuth Haven. Yeah, I know. Right. Not right. Karuth. That's a football player. Never mind. But I do know, I do know like I've seen Karuth Haven is like an overpass.

It is. No. It's an overpass. Yeah. I remember hearing it on the traffic report. When you hear your friend's name on the traffic report, you're like, yeah, babe. Yeah. And then you're like, no wonder he was so laid back, of course. Of course. Because he didn't have to do things. Yeah. Mostly because a lot of his muscles hadn't developed from movement or doing. Good teeth, no muscles. Um, now we're going to ask the question. We always ask as we start this podcast, which is what, if anything, do you believe about the paranormal? I honestly believe that I grew up religious. I'd so like, and I mean, the Holy Ghost has been part of my life forever. I feel like I should study that in a real, real dulcet Southern town. Holy Ghost. I believe in the Holy Ghost, you know? But I do, I think that part of growing up religious was, I always was like,

the things I love about humans are transcendent of the physical, you know? So like, I think, you know, generosity and kindness and joy and peace and all of those things. Like, those are things that I think, why would the physical container of all of those things dying off be the measurement for when the human dies off? You know, so I feel like those things continue. And so, you know, you can funnel that into religious belief. You can funnel that into any, any version of spectral existence, you know? Because it is like, it's energy, you know, you're putting out this, this kindness, this generosity, this joy. Right. And everybody's like, hey, energy has to go somewhere. That's cool. I never thought of that, dude. That's awesome. Yeah. And I mean, that's always been played out in a religious context in my world. But when somebody's like, oh, I felt this presence, or I was like, I'm like, I get it.

I get it. You know? So that's sort of my experience. Yeah. It's a, in my belief structure is like, I just don't know. I don't, you know, I know there's something more, but I'm just trying to figure it out. That's mostly why I write and try to, you know what I mean? That's why I'm doing what I'm doing. It's just like, look, I'm going to figure this out. I'm just going to do it into a microphone and with a pen and paper, you know? Some of you are just thinking about it on your lunch break. Not me. That's my, this is my whole job. Just to try to figure it out. Never taken a break. I'm thinking all that. All the time. I can't help it. I can't help it. See to do this or do something stupid. I don't know if you've ever lived in a man's body, but that's what that's our only two choices. See, they're think of it. Yeah. Think or be actively destructive to the world around you. I was like, I don't know if I have it. I was like, no, I think I have. I think I have a good, a man's body at the point.

I mean, I look, I tell everybody, you should do it for a day. You should do it for a day. One day. It's a fun ride. Definitely have a, definitely have an exit strategy. You got to get struck by lightning again. That's the idea. Yeah. That's the rule. While peeing in a fountain, everybody knows it. Everybody knows the equation. Is that definitely a Jason Bateman film or it feels like it, right? Yes, that is a, that's a Bateman and Ryan Reynolds, I think. Oh, never saw it, but boy, I feel, I know the whole plot in my bones. But I feel like that's such a, I feel like I've seen that in a hundred movies, but of course, I attributed it to Jason Bateman because that's how, that's how I view all of acting through the lens of Jason Bateman. Honestly, what would you do? What David did? He's really doing it all. What do you really do it all? I like that he's like, I'm not going to like act differently, but I'm going to do all the genres. And it does work. He's like, I'm just going to wear different chinos.

That's his whole spectrum of acting. I mean, I've been talking about it because it's spooky season now, but the outsider's one of my favorite series. I don't know if you've seen it, but he was executive producer and I think it directed the first episode in it. And it's like a straight up like supernatural kind of horror, like it's based on Stephen King. And, yeah. And you're like, he's, but he's also just being Jason Bateman and it works. Well, because everybody put him in arrest development. Yeah, you're good straight man. Well, he decided he's like, I'm going to be the straight man. I'm going to be a slightly funny version and a constant like bring you back, center the center of the structure. And every, every single story has different versions of, it's the old Anna Karin in a quote. It's like every happy family is happy in the same way, but every unhappy family is unhappy in their own special way.

And so like, he's just the happy family of every single show he's in. And also I just quoted Anna Karin in it. Can we write that? I know it's like, well, we're not that happens on every single episode. We've done it. Now it's become my thing. Well, I read one long book in my life and it was that one. And I will. I mean, you're remembering it. That's really good. That is the first line. So I didn't even have to read the whole book. When I say I read it, I mean, I read the book. You read the first line, right? Yeah, I get it. All right. I was like, yeah, I can use this for the rest of my life. It's the best of time. It's the worst of times. Yeah. It's of course. Yeah. So where do you fall when it comes to other like, like aliens, which is like, I feel kind of obvious this day and age where a lot of people, you know, but where are you

thinking about them? I think, I think, I think alien life exists. I think we've been built to believe that their bipedal like humans are and that they have. And I'm like, probably, I guarantee you there's parasitic alien life. There's things that look closer to synopedes or ants, you know, I mean, I guarantee or microbial like, like there is just mathematically, it feels impossible that that wouldn't exist in all of the universe because we're, we're not even a fraction. The amount of the universe we have we are is like less than my salary compared to Elon Musk. You know, like that's how little of the universe we take up. So it's like mathematically, there's other things. I just, I think we, the great thing about humans is we're great storytellers and we love to create these anthropomorphic existences with everything, you know.

And then so, you know, I blame animators. Yeah, how dare you call Disney? Yeah, once, once Walt Disney had a talking teapot, how am I supposed to understand how the world works? Second grade me was just like, well, I'm done. I, uh, my life can't handle anything. Yeah, I have to leave now. Yeah, every kid who watch Beauty and the Beast is like, well, aliens exist. I don't know how else to process this. Yeah, it's a straight line. It's a straight line right there. It's a straight line. A straight line. It's a straight line on a G-cliff. Now, what is a G-cliff? I don't know. I just said, I just said a section of words that I've heard before. So, uh, like, I'm just, I'm just rolling on it. Yeah, that's all it was intended to do. You guys were halfway there. I just said, I feel like this is going to work. And work. That's the thing when you think instead of just living a man's body,

you actually funnel all your chaos into words and like, people latch on. That's how you can communicate with normal humans. Yeah, if I wasn't constantly writing words into a notebook, I would be trying to climb the building next to me probably right now. Just for no reason, just for no reason, just because I got dared to. Honestly, that grizzly man guy, if he had just picked up a pen and paper, he and his girlfriend would have survived. Right. You just sit down and right now go, I'm feeling and then just finish that sentence. I will tell you that will save you so much stress. No, no, I must go to the prayer that bear that real mommy later. Bye. That guy had the most like female experience of I can fix him. No, you don't know him like, you don't know these birds like I know these bears. But it's good. It's good to say he's trying. He's trying to figure out. He's got a wrong direction.

Yeah, you know, don't go the direction that will get you mauled. But look, honestly, any of us could have a documentary made about our death. If we just start recording it at the end, you know, like, that's all it. Yeah, he would, I mean, that would be like, that's like, I could do one of me riding rollercoasters throughout the Midwest. I mean, at carnivals. Yeah, come on, the odds. That's going to end. That's going to end in there. They're not checking every bolt. No, they're putting that up so fast. Yeah. And once I find the really, yeah, once I find the really neglectful ones, I just stick with that carnival and travel with it. Just following that. Let me put it together and then we ride. Come on. Yeah, look, they'll bring me on. I've seen the movies. I know how that works. Happy. Happy. You just stand around long enough by the funnel cake place. Yeah, teach yourself how to smoke and how to smoke and then buy people cotton candy. You'll be part of the group in no time.

They're not nice, but you're there. No, no. But it's a group. It's not a good group of people. Yeah. Yeah. But you don't, yeah. Don't, don't, yeah. Let discerning out of the out of the equation. Can't be a part of it. Can't be a part of it. Now, so growing up in the South and religious, did you have any spooky experiences or have like family members? Or I just feel like the South is kind of spooky. I'm from Louisiana. So like it's extra. Oh, you're from the spooky-est part of the South. Like you're from, you're from the, you're from the convergence, but yeah, but we didn't let the French in. That was your problem. That was your problem. They mixed everybody up. Yeah, the French got to everybody in your state. In our state, it's just a tiny, but because everybody came to our state, so the French were fighting with the Germans, were fighting with the Irish. And not winning. That's the thing about the French in Louisiana. They lost the whole, that's how they got there. They found the worst place in America.

We can probably figure out how to eat everything here. And they did. I think so. So let's go. Oh, I mean, that's why it's the best food in America. I mean, legitimately. Well, that's the famous, in their famous Mark Quaint Twain quote, which is like, there's three cities. I know, here I go again. I mean, to be fair, this mustache, I had to learn all of Mark Twain's quote in order, yeah, yeah, in order to get into the meetings. That was important. But like, he has a famous quote that's like, there are three cities in America and everything else is Cleveland. Which is such a great quote, but one of those cities is New Orleans. It's such a weird thing, because San Francisco, New York and New Orleans are insanely different from everything else. And then everything else is sort of structurally pretty similar. I'm so sorry. I'm not from New Orleans. No, but I love New Orleans. I love New Orleans for that reason. That is big city. Where are you from in Louisiana? I'm from, it's called Watson, but only recently has been put on a map. It wasn't when I was a child.

It's not a corporate issue. It wasn't even on a map. That's hardcore Louisiana. Yeah. Yeah. My aunt's cage him. So I know how to make gumbo. So I mean, I can't do it well. You got to make the rue. The rue is the highest part. Yeah. I watch my dad struggle every Christmas with it. Yeah, it's, but hey, you know, you can talk to people about rue for the rest of your life. It immediately makes you a tiny bit classy. It's just burning flower. That's all rue. It is. Yeah. Well, flowering. Looking burning flower and butter. Yeah, put butter and flour together. Stir it while it burns. Which to be fair is, that's the description of most of the history of the South. I was going to say it is like very, it was a very human thing. Just like watch it burn, and the flower and butter and watch it burn. Just watch it. But start. Try to control it. Control it. And while it burns, find the optimism. Yeah. Because if you find the right optimism

and the burning flower and butter, you got a rue. And that makes for some good eat. Yeah. You can literally put anything in it then. Yeah. Oh, we're learning life here. Yeah. My family grew up in Texas altogether. I do have a KDN, which is great. And I have New Mexico and Arizona ties a little bit. But yeah, it was all religious, Bible belts. But my parents were like, Jesus Christians, you know, like be kind to everybody, help everybody else. So it was never this sort of like, and I was fortunate. My pastor, my main pastor growing up was like the Sanctual, who was like, oh, if we're going to study this, we should learn how that was originally translated in the air in May. And you should find out who he was talking to. And this church had this issue. And that's why he was saying these things. And so like, for me, it was legitimately

it taught me how to research almost. It was sort of, it was almost like a research project that I got to do growing up for no reason. You know? So it was sort of an interesting thing. But I will say that there was a time. So I was really religious when I was in high school and middle school. And I remember in high school, and I was also an athlete, I was playing sports. So I was in this, and I was a singer. I was, this is actually... So there was a time when I was, I would pray all the time and I was reading my Bible regularly and like really sort of trying to learn stuff. And I was also playing in basketball season. And I was also going to audition for All Region Choir in the Dallas area. So... Triple threat. I know, I know, it's yes. I will sing, I will play sports, and I will judge you.

So all three of us, all the trifecta. But we, but so we had a basketball, we had this huge basketball tournament that we were in. And we were moving along, we weren't supposed to do anything in it. We were sort of an average team, but like we were starting to win these games. So we kept moving along and it was about to conflict with my All Region Choir Tryouts. Choir Tryouts. That's a good... Hi. Right? So I was supposed to go and so I was like, if these conflict, you know, I don't know what to do. And we were the piece that we were trying out with with this classical piece, Opre's The Lord All Unations. And it was like this really like massive like big voice. And I was a bass voice. So I like had a really like solid part in it. So I was like, I'm good at this.

And I didn't know where I stood. And I was like, I could like this is a thing that would I could do maybe. And so I didn't know what my potential was from that perspective. But then it was definitely going to conflict. The date was going to conflict with our next game. Now, because moving on in a tournament, they don't always schedule the timing of the games. So you don't know exactly. So I knew the date was going to conflict. And I was like, what do I do? What, you know, and so I prayed about it. And I remember I opened my Bible. I just opened it up. I'm just like, I'm just going to search for something. And I opened my Bible and it opened to the Psalm. Opre's The Lord All Unations. And I was like, oh, well, I'm going to try out for choir. I was like, this is insane. But like that. Yeah. And I did. And I did try out for all region choir.

And I still made the basketball game. And we came in second place in the tournament. But I got into all region choir. And it was one of the better experiences of my life. I loved it. So cool. Yeah. So you got to see your cake and tea and eat it too. You got to do it. I know it. I did. You know, that is awesome. Yeah. But yeah. I like that. The little signs that we get, you know, but I'd also just be like, it's so on the nose. You were thinking I was stupid, huh, God? You don't have the little dumb. But I also appreciate it. Yeah. He did not. Yeah. He's like, I can't leave any space for misinterpretation. This is a teenage boy who has choir and basketball. Did you then start doing that all the time? I feel I would have started like then just being like, okay, I need to find a sign in everything I do. Well, I will say that another another sign for my basketball career was that I stopped growing. That definitely was a solid.

I was like, okay, I get this. So I was never, that was probably the pinnacle of my basketball career. Was that tournament? Second place. Shooting for second. That's why that's the title of my memoir. I like it. You can blame four other guys at least. Yes. Uh-huh. On that. Problem. That's probably true. Problem. But yeah, we at that, I, I was, I, that's when I knew I had a good singing voice. And so that did give me a confidence. And I said, weirdly, here's the interesting trajectory from that. As I started singing solos in church. And in singing solos in church, I was, I was like expanding. So what I was doing and I was singing songs that I enjoyed, you know, musically. Because I did listen to a lot of Christian music. Michael W. Smith was a huge, I loved him. And but I started when I would sing in front of church.

I would be nervous. I would be really nervous being alone up there singing. And so I would talk to them first, sort of like a, like a singer does at a concert. And I realized if I can make them laugh, then I'm in concert. You've already won them. Like, then I want their mind. And so everything after that, I'm not nervous about. And weirdly enough, that became my entire career was the making them laugh parts. So, you know, it does feel like that was such a sign to get you moving and be like, don't worry, you'll figure out what you're supposed to do from here on out. Because yeah, I mean, if God is omniscient, he knows how oblivious I am to, to a direction. I just keep thinking that if you were a little less funny, you would have been a preacher. In the South. I did consider, I did consider that. Believe me, I know the trajectory. A guy thinks he's funny and likes a little attention.

And he's like, well, I could move. Or I could stay here and take open a live-oak methodist church. Sorry, that was a real, a shot's fired at live-oak methodist. I mean, that is a very specific. It's my family's church, though. That's the whole spectrum, though. Like, as a southerner, you're like, well, if I'm really funny, well, you don't view entertainment as an option. I don't know about you, but I didn't. I never viewed that as like, oh, this could be a career. I was always like, no, this is a hobby. This is the thing you do in church. Or this is the thing you do, you know, just for fun in a community theater or something like that. Yeah. So, you know, I never viewed this as an option as far as a career goes, but I did. I was always like, well, if I'm, if I really enjoy teaching and learning about scripture, then I'll be a pastor. If I'm a little less than that, or I'm not as religious, I'll be a teacher. You know, so like, you have the spectrum of where you would fit.

If you have this sort of personality, proclivity, I guess. Yeah. It is funny that you say that though, because that church specifically, they have some Broadway stars that came out from the smallest town that's not even like, of course, there is a family really big in the church, but they were always entertaining in church. And then I do believe one of the grandchildren did make her Broadway debut last year, because they were like, if God wants to, God will make it. And also they were so supportive of the arts and then all worked in law enforcement or teaching. Like, like, yeah, that's the kind of church I grew up in, where is everybody sort of does the thing that they can do and whoever they are, you don't know who they are, who can do what? What's great, what was always great was like, somebody gets up there who you're like, you don't really know them and you'd see them, but you're like, they sort of were like, you're like, ah, that's the person looks like, you know, like, you know, they're just sort of on the fringes of

society or something. And then they get up there and they belt out this, it's like America's got talent years before America's got talent, where there's moments where you're like, oh my God, this voice coming out, I didn't say, oh my God, because that's taking his name in vain. I said, oh my goodness, oh my God, golly gee, we is. Something to that fact, this voice is amazing, you know, and that was always, and that was a good lesson in life, you're like, you don't know, you don't know where somebody comes from, you don't know what somebody can do until you work with them or watch them or let them do it, don't watch them, like let them do it, like the watching part maybe make that consensual. When they invite you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah, like yeah, yeah, see them as a human, that's what I meant to say, I meant to make it more of a kind. Look, everything goes through the mustache and it does come out, there's a real chance that

it'll come off creepy, so I have to close. You put the baseball cap on and helps, yeah, softens it a little bit. I think, I appreciate it. One of those churches that did every Halloween, like that, that hell hell hell hell hell hell. Yeah, yeah, where it's like religious-based stuff, yeah, you didn't celebrate demons, that's not part of it. You're warning people, like the everyday thing that could lead to being introduced. We didn't go in the warning, I know what you're talking about where it's like, this is the real thing. Where they're like, if you're gay, you're gonna be AIDS and die. And our school, our Baptist church in our town was you'll go to a rave and that's what's gonna happen. Yeah, then you're gonna OD, have an abortion, yeah, go to hell. Or you'll get saved and then you don't have to go to hell, and you'll meet your baby, that was the story. There's a wild documentary called Hell House.

I think it's called Hell House. That followed a really hardcore one. Like a religious race. I mean, is that where it's straight up like? Our's was more of a, our's went more to the like, solstice style, like it was just like Harvest Festival. Like we would just do that, where we would dress up as characters from the Bible, and it was all just very sweet. Like nobody dressed up as Satan. Like if you couldn't do that, but you know, but yeah, you could dress up as Lucifer, but only in his angel form before he was thrown from. Yes, you can do, you can do, we're any Lucifer prequel. Yeah, were there any kids who were like, hell yeah, I'm Lucifer, but you know, like trying to push it, but like, yeah, I'm gonna be Lucifer, but we'll still be the angel, but like just so you know, I feel like the kids who would have maybe made that choice were part of the reason was because their parents were so strict.

So because they were bring brought by their parents, nobody got out of their house dress like Lucifer, Lucifer, the sequel. Yeah. I mean, it was, we've every year was one of the most exciting things to be like, was it actors? Oh god, I was just like, I started going to their youth, I'm Catholic and I started going to their youth group being like, maybe I'm good in there. You guys got in again, the kids who offers a beer before they get in that car accident, and they would get real cars that had had a crash. So that would be, of course. See them hanging out though, the like front window and stuff. Did you ever, did you ever look at some of the like production value and go, did you guys ever think of using this money to help poor people at all? Like, was that ever brought up? That and like, like I said, there's a lot of talent in this mall town, like the concert they would put on. I was like, and this is just to build the church bigger, not to like help anybody. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just to get more news.

They really did build like a huge church that was like, it was like a little chapel where my whole, my mom's whole side of the family went and then all of a sudden, I'm like, it's a mega church. That's so crazy. And they have like light shows and stuff like. And I know, the population is like 8,000 people when I was living there. So I'm sure it's bigger now, but I was like, I don't kind of know so serene guys. Yeah. And it's fascinating to see it because you're like, you're like, this is, I have been to churches where I'm like, I'm like, this is a great show, but I got to be honest with you, everything I'm watching, I'm going, there are poor people down the street. There are probably poor people in the congregation. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. There's a who put money into offering because they're going to do the tithing for whatever. Oh my god. Yeah, where it's like, no, keep it. Keep it so you can. I can't. Well, that's, that's where like, I think honestly, leadership is a big role because like having, having people who are like

teaching that Sunday, like, hey, we put on this amazing production, but what we need is you to help us with our food pantry that we've got for the community or something like, you know, like all of that stuff is you get caught up in the production of it. And I do think sometimes churches get caught up and they're like, we're not just a church. We're a production company. Yeah. And it's like, it's like, no, you're more of a church. Just being a church. Yeah. Yeah. Which is great. Like, I love that you figured out how to do these things and you've got talented people doing stuff, but at the same time, I should not feel like people are being neglected because of your budget for productions, you know. Yeah. Yeah. It's funny to just like Betsy and I both grew up Catholic. So it's just a very solemn, much more solemn experience. It's so boring. I know. It's so boring. It sucks. I'm getting a lot of a lot of thinking time. Like, I was always just want, I remember two always getting in trouble. They're like, stop crawling under the queue. I was

just doing it. Yeah. Really? Yeah. Right under people's feet too. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. You needed places to go. That's because you weren't in that's because you weren't in the acting troupe in the church. See, that's that's the reason they that I honestly think that that's precocious children was part of the reason that acting in churches started. I think it was like, what if we just gave them a play to put on and we're like, yeah, you get to be a bear. And so, yeah, crawling, crawling around the stage at church is going to be a normal thing. But only if you don't do it under the pews during the service. Yeah. I feel like it was all a transaction. Oh, yeah. They're like, what do we do? What do we do with them? Yeah, we're boring these kids. We got to give them something. I also think that like Catholicism lends itself to like being like ghost. There's a lot of them. So I know all the miracles and stuff. It's like so. It was just, it's so hand in hand for us. So yeah, that's I think I think it's a it's a good like the the

venn diagram of believing in ghosts and and worshiping God is there's got to be a lot of cross over there. Like did your family like does your family believe in ghosts and everything? Parts of my family do like my what's what's wild is my brother-in-law. He's like he like feels like he came he came to visit us in New York City and he went to the 9-11 memorial with my with my wife. And when he was going down there, they got like three blocks away and he's like, oh, he's like like I just feel like like something's pressing down and the closer they got the more pressure he felt just on his body. And he like he was he had to like sit down when he got close enough to it like where he's just like, I gotta I just gotta gather myself. But like he's he's like physically sensitive to some energy somehow. He he actually one time uh went to visit

a friend. He's an antiques guy which of course the portal's all of the point. I bet he's constantly doing like like touching the leaves of me like oh my god. I mean he does he's like hey you know what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna just have a whole world of doors for ghosts to come through. And I will be on this all. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So he he actually went over to a dude's house because he was the guy was like, oh this this uh antique sconce that you got me I put it up in the hallway upstairs. And so he's like taking him upstairs and he like can't get up the stairs. He's like oh my he's like he just and he gets he finally gets to the top of the stairs. And he's just like he's dazed and he's like he's like somebody was murdered here. Oh and he like just for no reason out of nowhere. And the guy's like what did you just say? And he's like he's like there's something there's just this insane energy that I just I'm

certain that somebody was murdered here. And the dude took him downstairs and had the newspaper clippings from a 1937 murder where a husband and killed his wife in the upstairs. That man's weird. Yes. He kept that. He kept both the murderer and the man get the newspaper. Well, I mean I mean look I will say that you're not like I come over to my house. People have been murdered. I feel like that's a I feel like you want to have some some beverages before you open up to that. I guess if you have like something just certain block. Yeah. Oh yeah. Just a certain block. And then we'll talk previous murders in the building. Yeah. Yeah. Like if someone had been murdered here and there were any information on I guess I don't know that I would have printouts though. But sure. I like it. Yeah. That's yeah. I mean look I mean I don't I don't know who my brother in line is. He sold the man an antique scone. He's slinging. Yeah.

Slinging sconces. He's slinging. Look you can't you can't you can't you can be the dealer but you can't be responsible for all of your patrons. You know that's the rules. I can only imagine what the people I bought stuff off eBay are like. Like in fact I don't want to imagine what they the way they packaged stuff up is sick. The amount of tape they use is something's wrong with them. They are sick. Yeah. He's a whole roll of duct tape like what is going on. You you imprison people before like you you you've you've definitely held people against their will your account of like mailers that they wrap it in. I'm like I could only imagine it's a hoarder house. Yeah. It's like someone's son be like we have to get we have to get mom's house clean down. For like a Simpson's action figure that's like that big. Oh my god. Yeah. I'm too big. That's all later. Yeah. That's crazy. Is your wife does she have any of that? She um she

she doesn't really have it in in a in a paranormal way. Um you know what I mean she um she has the normal like intuition I would say you know but but I don't think I've ever her whole family that does though a little bit and she rebelled against her family so I almost feel like that's part of the rebellion. Yeah. Yeah. Like her mom is like her brothers convinced that her mom's house is haunted you know it's like it's the whole. Yeah. Um and when you go there you're not picking up on anything like you like that's just a shadow. I I sleep one night and my snoring I'm pretty sure the ghosts are like hey I think we're gonna hon a hotel for the weekend. You know like I think I think I think that's where my barbaric behavior comes to my aid. I think I think the ghosts are like I just not well we were talking about going to Reno. Let's do that this weekend. Let's go to Reno this perfect weekend. Yeah. You know we've racked up a lot of points. Yeah. I mean

I mean we can rattle change but the thing that this dude's rattling with his atma is you know soft it's off the charts. Yeah it's he's yeah it's his UBL that's really haunted house. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do y'all like do you um do you know why or I mean because you guys deal in this world do you do you have a concept of why so many of the interactions with but the paranormal seem to be like abstract or like not direct like rarely does somebody go hey just so you know on Tuesday there's gonna be a you know a dude who's gonna come after you or something you know there's like there's never like a full scale speech it's more like a it's more like a you know open a door or be angry about something you know do you have any I mean I guess it is like people's sensitivity levels of like what are they picking up on like your brother-in-law if

he's like there was a murder here it seems like he's really tuned into like a lot of information on his base but you know I think that sometimes it's like you know depending on how we think the world works that it could just be a little overlap of some energy like if time is relative that maybe it is kind of all happening at the same time. Oh so it's like something bled over into yeah I see I see there's also like we've talked about the idea of like spirits and like kind of not knowing where they are to yeah and not knowing or like how to necessarily communicate with people so they're like I don't know I can knock a water bottle over like the Patrick's Wazey thing. Yes I think it's where like yeah you got a lot of focus to kick this kind of confused yeah and not necessarily wanting to scare you but just having to be like I don't know I'm sorry I'm sitting on

your chest this is all I got like what do we do yeah we're like that it happens in like dreams too so or in that halfway awake so people can like explain it away but also it's just what our brains can comprehend yeah like like our brains are putting this information together as best they can and and and it might be a little scrambled or confused you know yeah but I do think when it's people that are closer to you like or like if you yeah if you're getting like a visitation from someone closer to you it can be a little more direct or yeah with these signs but I also think they got other stuff to do yeah you know they're not out here being like how can I really affect Marcy's life and like have a conversation like she's gonna interrupt me so they don't want to spend their time doing that in the afterlife I just want to have one uninterrupted sentence and this is not the house yeah no it not her interesting yeah so it's like so it's it's a partly the

capacity to perceive it and it's partly you know where where it exists on the spectral plane I guess and just like every person culture country communicates in their own way or has their own customs or you know like I have neighbors I've lived around for three years now and some of them I'll speak to and some of them I don't some of them won't even look at me while they're walking in the middle of the street on the phone you know yeah and some literally just keep popping up in front of my door and scared me every time she goes sorry didn't mean to scare you you you've seen me get scared by her while we're podcasting yes I have someone pop in their head and it's a gate it my house is gated but yeah I think it's there's no one thing one way it is and I do think for a lot of skeptics because there's not like a this is how it works because it can't be fully proven so they're

like well then I don't think it's real because I doesn't follow a set set of rules that I understand and it's like you know who knows what any of this is we and and I think we talked about it recently that like humans have only been around a little bit a little tiny bit of time too so what if yeah like maybe we haven't figured it out yet because and also also maybe the grand structure of everything is not the structure we invented you know I mean I think that's how to me that's that's how religion works on a certain level you're like just the whole thing about like the like the senate candidate for for in Texas he had he had said the phrase God is non-binary and I was like oh that's actually true as far as I believe in so that and then and then people are like no God is a man and and my first instinct is to go well what does his penis look like then tell

me exactly what God's penis looks like because if you can't tell me that then maybe yeah no I want pure description I want I want tones I want skin color I want palette descriptions yeah I want I want yeah funny to think of it because so silly but we but we want to contain it we want to contain it in that structure we understand and that and the less capacity you have to to to experience the biggest things of being human the less you're going to be able to understand you know a deity or a or a spectra you know any any sort of race is that a good word right that's a good word what you're using it enough what's your favorite what's your favorite ghost word like your favorite like I have read books this is what I would call it like race is a fun one oh that's good

you ever use a weird what's no but I think that's an Irish one play yeah the weird yeah yeah I that's one that's the first time I've ever heard of it yeah yeah yeah just a bunch of I want stated a girl name weird yeah really last name last name last name yes wait I know some and then she never got back to me for some reason um dead she goes to you and that's a bad very bad joke that I made no no no I set you up I set you up specifically make that joke I wanted you to make that joke I wanted to compromise the integrity of this podcast so honestly I'm doing we're doing it look I feel like I'm part of the gang then because I really feel like I added my I added my two cents wait we've been doing this for like what eight years seven years and we don't know what it is we don't know what this podcast is but that's I mean if you're going to do a podcast about the paranormal not knowing what it is should be part of the equation yeah right

thank you thematically you guys are on point on it yeah I'm trying to think of the word I didn't I didn't mean to get I look I just butt in and started asking you questions so if I but every like native American all the native American words are always great for it like what's it like the wind to go or which is not a ghost but like a experience it as we would call yeah well what's it called what wind to go okay what yeah no no I think I've heard that before it's like it has like elk antlers or I read a book it's a fiction book where that's kind of like the description of like yeah a big creepy like elk by collecting by thing but by peatle yeah so it's standing up and and also shape shifting too uh you can be whatever I like that when wind to goes a good one

yeah I mean it's like how bigfoot's got a lot of different names like yeah dee sask watch sask watch yeah swamp ape uh swamp ape that feels um that feels really yeah that's from the south it's just like I don't know just pick two words swamp and ape dude I didn't like go oh go ahead but were there any urban legends or like cryptoids in your cryptids in your world that's like oh I mean yeah I mean Louisiana Louisiana got like all the cuz you got you got like you got the uh what's the uh I can't I can't think of it uh the I keep wanting to say Zydeco it's not Zydeco cuz that's a music but like it's got no it's got it's got all the I mean it's it's way off as ida co I'm sure um it's like all the uh the Haitian uh like voodoo voodoo the voodoo that's what

that's what I was trying to do Zydeco voodoo you know what they're happening at the same time that would yeah that would explain my why my friends left me on burden bourbon street I'm like hey why don't we go listen to some voodoo and they're like nah we're just gonna go to the piano and drink hurricane now but I uh they're like like Louisiana's got a lot of stuff um yeah but Texas is big so Texas is big so like Houston is like Louisiana if it passed through customs you know basically it's basically just the flip side of Louisiana like the weather is exactly the same like it's just but it's like oh what if we like organized all of the chaos in Louisiana in one city uh and made it Texan like that's Houston yeah so that's way different from like west Texas west Texas you're you know you get a lot more gothic uh where it's like where the stuff is

where you're like seated in some like really weird uh like Christian national that's where you get like the pastors who are billionaire oil people who are controlling all of Texas politics like they're out in west Texas you know that's where you get that and then you go brownsville which is closer to Mexico so you've got a whole influence of Hispanic culture um and in Dallas just nobody everybody watches sports and banks um which is which is scary which is scary yeah I mean to be to be fair banking might be the scariest immediate threat we have going on right oh my god he's killing us all yeah um but yeah there's I think more of the Texas legends are more gothic style legends like uh yeah like like that massive economy movie do you ever see that one uh with uh billpacston uh what was it right up my alley it's a it's a dark movie it's a good movie I'm gosh

I can't even think of what it is billpacston played the dad my Matthew McConaughey was the sun years later fraylty fraylty that's what was called yes that was wild that's a great that is a great course yeah that was good psychological horror yeah yeah so that to me is much more the vibe of what Texas has going on yeah cuz even ghosts want to be around people so west Texas they're like not here no no no no no no no not here we have more stuff to do than this yes more fun stuff for sure now Jason do you have time for us to listen to one of our listener stories yeah sure let's do it all right right i'm gonna pull one up now right yeah little doggie yeah there hello uh Betsy and Marcy um I just have a short little story for you here my name is Natalie

and I enjoy listening to your show very much this is just a very a silly little quick thing that happened um so I moved into the house where I live right now um 10 years ago and when we bought the house a really nice older couple um was the the sellers obviously and they when we did the walk through of the house they had left um and a day bed there um and they said we can have somebody come you know pick it up and take it when i entered trash or whatever or we can leave it here in this guest bedroom because it's a really nice bed to have there for when you have guests and so we agreed we thought it was a nice idea it's a in really great shape it hadn't been used very much because it was just for their guest room um so anyway we'd been there a few months and one afternoon I worked from home um and I was rather exhausted the kids were at school um there were sun shining

in into the guest room so I crawled into that bed and I took a nice delicious nap yes um and I had probably been asleep maybe 30 minutes or so when I was awakened really suddenly by a voice and it sounded like an old man uh I heard his voice really loudly enough that it woke me up and he said oh oh oh excuse me oh I'm sorry pardon me like he had opened the door to the room and found me sleeping in the bed and was embarrassed and surprised uh and I didn't really think much of it at the time I mean I thought a little of it I was like that was weird but um whatever I let that go and then eventually um we ended up moving that bed upstairs to a different bedroom because we were using that as another guest bedroom while my kids were um sharing the other upstairs bedroom they were little um and same thing so everybody is at like school and work and I probably

should have been working but uh I was exhausted I mean we had just moved and I had two little kids so fair enough um but I uh I went upstairs to that guest bedroom and the sun was shining in through the window and there were cats napping on the bed and I was like oh yeah this is this is my time and so I went to sleep and was having the most delicious luscious sleep ever you know like when you're really that really really um afternoon sleepy sleepy time nap but in the sunshine you know I was all warm and it was just really nice and I fell into a really deep sleep I don't know how long I was asleep probably I don't know probably not that long 15 or 20 minutes and again I was awakened by a man's voice by an old man's voice and he said oh pardon me oh excuse me this

the same thing this same like old man's voice why um walk me up like he was surprised and had walked in on the room and and found me there and was you know whatever embarrassed so I um that time I noticed and I was like that's that's a little weird and I decided I did not like that bed and I got rid of that bed immediately and donated it and I have never had any experience like that in my house ever since then I I suspect there was some old man attached to that bed I don't know why but there you go that's my quick and and silly uh go story hope you enjoyed wow that is a man who loves to interrupt delicious naps I love this description to the yummy delicious delicious that made me be like I want to

do it just nap dude yeah yeah yeah yeah right now I'm gonna lie that sunny out what is good popping into my head he's like oh you're napping in my bed again okay excuse me that's so funny you came up in a second little square how about that yes I'm sorry I don't know what happened really you do not criticize ghost man oh here we go but truly it's like sometimes when I say excuse when I lived in New York I would say excuse me when I actually meet meant something way router what are you doing in my way yeah like yeah excuse me oh sorry oh pardon yeah yeah I'm just saying this I'm just saying versions of this until you move in my bed wow little daytime naps just yeah problem is day bed is only referring to the time

that the ghosts get to use it for you it's a nightmare there we go that's she didn't understand the rules of the beds there we go yeah like I didn't make you think that possibly that was where he naps yeah I mean he's an old dude he's like really hearing my yeah it also made me think like I'm sorry go ahead Jason no no no go ahead go ahead where it's like the other situation of like did he think she was a ghost sleeping in his bed he's so polite to a ghost oh my god there's a ghost but I mean hey he could be a true believer he could be like oh look at ghost I'm so sorry I did not know you were gonna be sleeping clearly clearly his spectrum is on the other side of the world where the time is totally different yes yes he's like I was just gonna yeah I was just gonna go to bed I was just one day what I don't be very suspicious of anyone leaving one piece of furniture especially a day bed it's like you could easily move that's like a heavy

big guy got reaction to like no you take it or you get rid of it oh yeah I thought I thought it was gonna be much more sinister than just an old polite dude yeah you know like that I was like this sort of a pleasant way to be scared by a ghost yes and that is like another thing that we find through this podcast is like a lot of these encounters are not particularly like scary like yeah maybe scary because you're like what is this happening but not like malicious journey right it's just like yeah peculiar more than scary yeah yeah yeah wow oh haunted day bed yeah well that's the she clearly the people before her did not nap so they never they had no idea we're like when yeah what are you saying you're saying our bed is only haunted during naps come on right you would never know we don't have work yeah yeah yeah he's yeah he's not an old man he's our

manager it's it's the ghost of her former manager I do you work on your computer right now come on yeah he's like what are you doing that thing uh Jason this has been so much fun to talk to you about all the I love you yeah thank you all so much for having me tell everyone we're to find you what where your tour upcoming dates are and then also online where they can find you my tour dates are at jason dash salman dot com and salman is spelled like salmon like the fish so uh I just like to pronounce it as if we're classy that's all so uh is jason dash salman dot com all my tour dates I've got all my all my information and merchant stuff is on there uh a jason comedy on all the social media um I do weekly wrap-ups of all the chaos that's going on in the world
