Florida Gators dominate SEC foes under Jon Sumrall, steamrolling Ole Miss for 300+ rushing yards. Has Florida finally found its identity as a relentless ground attack with Jadan Baugh, Duke Clark, and home run threat Evan Pryor leading the charge? Buster Faulkner’s offensive genius and Phil Trautwein’s line coaching have transformed Florida into a juggernaut, raising questions about how long Faulkner will stay before head coaching offers come calling.
Brandon Olsen breaks down why Sumrall’s organizational overhaul marks Florida’s best leadership since Urban Meyer and why their physical running style is exhausting defenses and quieting crowds across the conference. Key discussion points include Florida’s path to out-muscle Missouri on the road, the impact of home-field advantage, and updated win projections. Is this just the beginning of a new era in Gainesville?

Your daily podcast on the Florida Gators. Part of the Locked On Podcast Network, your team every day. Well, Florida's off to a very hot start this year. And I've been getting copious comments from folks out there in Gator Country about the host joining me now. That's Brandon Olson of Locked On Gators. I didn't actually count the number of combined comments and likes on the comments in which I was told I should have listened to you. Now, I don't know if all those folks were the ones telling me that I was wrong about Florida
before the year. But look, I'll be the first one to tell you. And I'm going to do this later on today's show through the first month of the season. There are teams I was wrong about. There are teams I was very right about. Florida goes into category number one. Sometimes I was wrong about I did not, hey, easy now. It happens. It happens. I just, I always liked the summer all higher. I was always high on it. Dude, just stood. I did not believe that it would be clicking this well. I know. This early. And yeah, I mean, the John Summer All higher looks like the best one at Florida since Urban Meyer right now is that an overreaction. No, not at all. I think I said this, I think on Monday's show that organizationally, this is the best the program has been since Urban Meyer. Just from top to bottom, organizationally, like in terms of your actual leadership and how things are organized, I put together, you have not been this good in Gainesville since Urban Meyer.
And that's not to say that you're getting the same results, of course. It's just the Florida's the spot where they've kind of screwed that higher multiple times. And John Summer All is doing his job. He's got his coordinators, absolutely nailed OC, specialty and coordinator. And he's nailing things like detail wise. I love it. I also do love that he seems to be very realistic in the sense of he was talking in his pressur. He's like, look, if you're a corner and they make a great catch and they make a great play, I'm not going to kill you. Like I'm not going to get flipping out on the sideline. Like teams make great plays. If you give them a play, then I'm going to kill you. But like teams make great plays and that's just what it is. And it's just refreshing from I feel like the fan side of things is like, they caught the ball. You suck. And it's like, that's not how football works. No, it's certainly not. You know how it apparently works? Hand the ball off against Ole Miss's defense and do anything you want afterwards to the
tune of 52 points. The point that Stephen Willis made on our locked on college football live show on Sunday night, which we do every night, 8 PM Eastern here on this channel and those of everyone that joins. He pointed out, well, they were exhausted. They were tied. I mean, they were really drained. And I'm sitting here going, it's the end of September. It's not even October yet. And you're telling me what depth is worn down. The team is physically tired. Let's say concerned, it's also equally impressive that Florida just assaulted that Ole Miss front seven. I mean, it was in legal fashion, of course. But I mean, I don't know the last time an SEC team in a game like that went for 300 on the ground off top of my head. I don't know the last time that happened. Yeah, I can't think of one either. But yeah, Florida just, they just pummel you.
That's all it is. There's one point in the game where Ole Miss had run its 17th play of the game. And Florida had just finished a 15-play drive. It was just Florida just pummeling you. And that's what they want to do. They want to just pummel you and beat you down. And they want to say, hey, in the fourth quarter, you got to try to tackle Jaden Ball. Oh, and if Jaden Ball is a little tired, then you got to try to tackle Duke Clark. And if Duke Clark's not out there for whatever reason, Evan Pryor is your running back three right now. And that dude averaged like eight yards per carry last year for Cincinnati. He's just a home run hitter. It's just really tough to defend a team like Florida with an offensive coordinator like Buster Falkner and an offensive line coach like Phil Trawbont. Yeah, they've been really good. And I had some Camarro Taylor discourse on my show yesterday because some folks don't like that the immediate conversation is always Mississippi State going to be able to keep them. I think it's just realistic, which Chris Jones agrees by the way noted Mississippi State
alum came out and said, hey, I'll donate to NIL to keep them there. Like, that's what has to happen. These places that would come and get Camarro Taylor to try and pull him away for more money already have a line of donors or alums that contribute to those sorts of funds like adapter die. And I hope Mississippi State adapts and keeps him there. I don't want him to leave. It's just realistic to talk about, but it's also realistic right now. Brandon to bring that up with Buster Falkner because there is going to be a coaching carousel as there is every single year. And there is no way with how good that side of the ball has been for Florida through the first few games over 53 points per at this point in the season with two SEC games under their belt. There's no way his name isn't going to pop up with what he did at Georgia Tech and look at Georgia Tech now. He's looking like he was the secret to the potion there for Brent key. And I think in the long run, Georgia Tech can be all right. They will need a different offense coordinator, perhaps, but Buster Falkner leaves and Georgia
Tech is losing to Stanford and Colorado in the same year. Yep. I think it's Buster Falkner. I think losing Jeep way. There are offensive line coaches. Georgia Tech also heard. I also think Brent Key just made a really bad offensive coordinator hire. The moment he made it, I was like, what the hell are we doing here? You said Buster. And now come on now. But Buster is going to get those calls. Buster got calls last year. He took G5 head coaching interviews. That is G6 to you, good sir. I'm not going to do the thing where we go, oh, like he turned them down to be an offensive coordinator. Maybe he did. I don't know if he was offered the jobs. I just know he went for interviews. And I would imagine it was to get some kind of experience going on head coaching interviews. And I think Buster Falkner will be gone. The day he got hired, I said you get him for two years tops. That's it. He's incredible. I think he's the best offensive coordinator in college football. I thought he was really freaking good before he was at Florida. I mean, you can go back a few years.
We're talking about Billy Napier. Please go get these guys, investors on the list. So I think he's been really good. I think he's in a wait for the right job to open up. But I don't think that's going to take that long to happen. If you've got a sweet tooth, I'm like I do. And you know how tough it is to find that perfect treat without all the sugar. I think Maryland is going to come open if he thinks that's the right job. Clemson. I think he wants to see you. I think he's a psycho that wants the SEC. Well, they just had a bunch of new coaches. So I don't know how many SEC jobs would come open. They're not going to fire Brennan. Brennanables, they just extended him before the year, which you know, never made sense to me pivoting to this week Brandon because it was an emotional and exciting win for Florida last week and the fans deserve to be happy about that. The term emotional let down gets thrown around a lot in college. Up here back. Yeah, yeah, emotional let down is a term in college football as I talk to the wall in that painting back there, which is not bad. I don't think it's okay. The belt. Yes, the belt's the belt is back.
Going on the road to play Missouri, according to Fandall, Florida is favored by four and a half points. I kid you not that change since before we sat down to record this segment. That's a smaller number than you might expect. Now Missouri is, I think a respectable team. You will note, I'm going to throw graphic up here for those watching on YouTube. This is my top 25 coming into the week and because I do it based on what you've actually done, not my projection, not that it would change and the point I'm about to make here. Brandon, do you see Missouri at the back end of this top 25? I don't see many teams that don't deserve to be there. So no, I don't see. Yeah, yeah, no, there are no teams in my top 25 that don't deserve to be there because you have to actually earn it. Now, notably, the term upset is not limited to a lower ranked team, beating a higher ranked team. You can have an unranked team, beating a ranked team. What is your concern for the upset meter, shall we say, for Florida going on the road to Missouri? By the way, Austin Simmons is good.
They darn near one on the road at Mississippi State last week. It was a close competitive game. Should Missouri be ranked? No, is Missouri a bad team? No, are they a great team? No. You can lose to a team far worse than Missouri and feel bad about yourself. How do you see this game? I see Florida is winning this game by more, the covering spread. I'm going to say that. I think Florida is, well, I'm going to say, well, better than Missouri. I think that it's going to be tough for Florida in the sense of this is going to be a very pro-Mazuri crowd. Obviously, it's a road game. It's always going to be in favor of the other team. Unless you're Jordan Hare, that sounds like a Florida Gators game. Real quick. There were a lot of Florida fans. Yeah, that sounds like a Florida Gators game real quick. But my thought has always been that Missouri is going to be tough because nobody wants to travel to Missouri, specifically like the school and not the state because of the city that's going to get there. Yeah, yeah. It's a pain to get there. You got to fly in and then drive to it.
And I think that that's going to be tough. I think that when you talk about, hey, Florida Gators fans, you want to go to this road game. The road game before Missouri, Auburn, the road game after Missouri is Texas. I think for a lot of people that are making a decision on a road game, they're probably going to pick one of those two instead of Missouri. It's Missouri's homecoming, which I don't necessarily care too much about. But I do think that it's going to just lead to a stronger presence. If it's loud enough, this is a Florida Gators offense that relies a lot on timing. And if it's loud enough to throw that off, then that can get ugly pretty quickly. I do think that Florida's ability to run the football the way that they've been running it does help them a lot. So you can kind of take the air out of that crowd. Same way you took the air out of the lungs of Ole Miss defenders every single time you handed the ball off. I think you do that to the crowd as well. Not literally. They can make a line if that's what they want to. They can allow that to make a lot of that. I think that's what I'm going to do. I'm not going to do it in a particular way. Do you have a score prediction on this game?
I am struggling to pick against Florida right now. The number being as small as it is does make me hesitate. But I mean, yeah, I lean towards Florida to win the game. I don't think this is going to make it into my best bets this week because it feels like that that number is small enough. I would have expected closer to a touchdown. And so that it was closer to a field goal makes me go. I was burned by Vegas once regarding Florida last week. I shant do it again. That's fair. I'm going to say, and I'm saying this specifically for trash talking purposes, just make this abundantly clear because I told John Miller Florida by 12 and I'm going to stick with it. I'm going to say 45 33 just because I want Florida to win by 12 exactly because that's what I've predicted. Realistically, I'm realistically, that's what I said as a joke to John Miller. The truth is Florida is going to win by more than that and Florida is going to score more
than that. Missouri is not going to keep up. That's a confident and rejuvenated Brandon Olson of Lockdown Gators.
