What is going on with the Dallas Cowboys? What is happening? Man, it's incredible that after all of the changes they made on defense, the trades, the player pickups, the draft picks, two first round draft picks, the coordinator change, they somehow seemed worse, which I did not think was physically possible.
I was just like, I looking at my notes from last night, I think what's crazy too is like sometimes we make football really complicated and we talk about certain weaknesses or schematic issues. They literally just look so soft. Soft. The cushions are giving up and coverage, the mistakles, the effort. It's honestly pretty wild to see. And I think every Cowboys fan is especially frustrating, given how ripe for taking the division is. Yes. Yeah. It's interesting because there were no expectations when shot and Heimer took over last year. And this year he came in with pretty lofty expectations. And so I'm wondering because Jerry Jones was not happy after that game. I'm wondering, do you think Shotties on the hot seat? I may probably, but also Jerry Jones, like a lot of this is a disaster of your own making from a roster construction standpoint. The trading away of Micaparsans, by the way, which this summer,
everybody was like, wow, look at this. Look at all the players they got. This is actually a great trade. I'm like, what? I know he's her, but he's one of the three best pass rushers in football. And you end up paying some of the players you traded for. You're going to pay, you know, poor, like more than you would have paid Micaparsans. So it just feels like hustling backwards to me. Yeah. Meena staying in that division between Lane Johnson retiring and Cam Jurgen's getting traded to Baltimore, when you factor in that it's a defense that feels like they can no longer carry that team. Does Philadelphia have enough answers to remain like a legitimate contender? Hmm. I do not think so. I was just doing, so I'm on the Sunday pregame show for the International Game Eagles Jacks. Yes. That's 6.30 a.m. That's on network for said it was 9.30. Yes. And I've been doing a lot of game prep just trying to come up with answers for Philadelphia, ways that the underdog can pull it off. And I am hard pressed on alpha. It's to come up with any solutions for what we're seeing right now because of the offensive line.
I think the defense will play better. They're playing below their talent level. Vick Shandhi, Fangeo defenses tend to get better as the season goes along. And that should be at minimum a top seven defense. And like seven. What a random arbitrary number. I've done it before. I was like, I thought prizes like five. I know. Don't want to say 10. Let's just go with seven. Right in the middle. Nobody can hold you accountable for seven. But the offense like the line is just a disaster. And I think what we've seen with Hertz. And I feel pretty comfortable saying this is he is the type of quarterback where offensive line play really matters. And I know people are like, that's every quarterback. Some quarterbacks is more than others. That's what I'm saying. And I think for him he does need that protection. Also the competent run game, which they don't have. I mean, I have to be honest with you. You predicted that Trevor Lawrence would win the MVP. I laughed at you when you said it. I did. But I'm not laughing anymore because we have been making jokes around here with Chris Sims asking him every single week for years. Is Trevor Lawrence any good? He's really good.
I mean, I'm not certain your prediction will come true, but he is really good. It seems that Lawrence guy. I know he's not a Hertz guy. No, he's a Lawrence guy. Yes. Lawrence guy. All right. Good. Yes. Meeting in the minds. Because I love Trevor Lawrence. I loved him last year. Loved Roy saw on the second half of the season. And I loved what I've said. I've loved what I've seen. Obviously, it's continued into the first quarter of this season. He's just so aggressive and confident right now. Throwing into tight windows over the middle of the field. I think the scheme is really good. The run game looks better, but he is the engine of it. He's been awesome. Mina, how much is it bothering you to watch Kenneth Walker in Kansas City? Absolutely. I absolutely run away with the MVP. Mikey, it's so funny. I texted her about that because they're three and one without him. I'm so confused about Kenneth Walker. It's really a testament, though, to like running like, why? Maybe they let him walk even though I do think I would feel a lot better if their first round running back will have contributing more. And he got hurt, so I don't want to like put that on him.
But like a couple of weeks ago, he fumbles in the first play. And they're just like, nah, you're not going to get the ball again. Which is like, you know, whatever. But like, the CX cannot run the ball very well right now. And it's similar to first half of last season. And that's going to hurt them against certain opponents. It's including San Francisco. They play this weekend because I think San Francisco's weakness is run defense. And I just don't know if Seattle can take advantage of that. I mean, it seems like the consensus between the better player between David Bailey and Arvel Reese was going to be whichever one the Jets did interrupt. Four weeks in, is it already starting to look like the Jets got that decision wrong? Way too early. I will say. It's the Jets. They don't get the benefit of the doubt. I definitely don't. They're very different players to write. Like so like with Bailey, obviously, you're bringing him and to get after the quarterback. And you want him to improve in that regard. But Reese to me, like the, you're already seeing the versatility, the tackling, the instincts. He's such a good player. He was my favorite defensive player in the draft.
And yeah, he looks awesome, honestly, the first few weeks. But I'm not giving up on David Bailey. It's still early. Well, Jeff Fanceath. I mean, we've been making fun of the Vikings here. They're four now. They're undefeated. Every team would love to be four. No, are they any good? Do you guys know where the Vikings offense ranks so far in yards per play? Just guess. 31. I'm going to say 20. 31. I'll guess what Mikey. 32. Bane. I had to, I had the dolphins. I know, but you have to play the game with Meena. You got to say top 10 or something like that. Top seven. 28 to 39. Dolphins offense at least does occasional fun things, right? Right. Yeah, the Vikings offense has just been even with Kyla Murray back. I think the hope is that, you know, as he gets his sea legs, you do see glimpses of potential there in terms of him pushing the ball down field. I thought in the second half, he looked better. But for me to take them seriously, not in the division, but as a competitor,
you just need an offense to be average, right? Because the defense is obviously top three in the NFL. Meena, how's your brown fans there? How should brown fans, they're three in one. I understand most fans are selfish. They want their own feel good. That's what they care about most. But how should brown fans be cheering for this team, considering who, who the guy is that's playing quarterback for that team? We have a feel good story in Cleveland, which is the young players look awesome. Yes. And when you draft a quarterback next year, it's going to be an actually good situation. So that's the feel good story. And for, by the way, whenever I say that, we were like, well, they're going to keep to Sean not for $200 million, which is how much they would owe him because of all the shenanigans in the past. And so anyways, he's been fine. He's been up and down. I think like, for example, I've seen the Thursday night game. He had a really good first half and a really bad second half. And it didn't kind of matter. But I think when I watch them, the thing that jumps out to me is just
the two receivers they drafted look awesome. They're really good at getting yards after the catch. They have the second, actually, they rank first in the NFL in yards after contact, which I think speaks to the nature of the offense, which doesn't ask to Sean to push it down field very much. And then defensively, a lot of the young players look good too. Verse looks great. Obviously, big player. The Miles Garrett trade. So this is a fun young team. It would be a fun story this year, I think, from a underdog perspective, if not for the quarterback. But if you're a Browns fan, I think you can compartmentalize a little. I mean, a four weeks and it feels like we still have no idea what to make of this Raiders team. How is Kurt Cousins pulling this off? Because he was terrible in Atlanta. I love him. When he, on the play against Kansas City, because when I watch like sometimes an older quarterback, like an Aaron Rogers, I'm like, he's balls coming out fast. He doesn't want to get hit. Kurt Cousins, my thought process. If you, if you show me a good Kurt Cousins stat line, I'm thinking not pressured, ball out quick, zone coverage, picking it apart, smart, obviously played a long time.
It's pretty accurate. But that's not what happened. He was making throws under pressure, like rolling out, standing like that makes no sense. Yeah. Um, no. So I don't know. I don't know if it's sustainable. The offense is extremely well designed. Tight ends are obviously awesome. The line is playing well. And then I think a lot of the additions they made on defense are good too. You know, it could be Dean's been balling. Crosby looks great. So they're definitely like a legit team. I don't have them as like a super bowl contender in the top tier of the AFC, but they, they are a hard out for sure. What do you do with the Falcons here? Because I've been telling the guys, I could see this team winning that division, making a deep run. They just needed a competent quarterback. Now they have one in Michael Pentax and they've averaged 40 games since he came back. Yeah, I think, um, well, first of all, it absolutely can win this division. Yes. Right? Yes. Is the NSC South better than the NSC East? I kind of think so. No, I say it's a very good question. NSC, well, I believe love Bryce Young here. Yeah, but Jack, we love Bryce Young here.
We are big Tyler Shock fans. Yeah, I'm more Bryce Young nowadays. And the boxer back in it. I mean, we're a young book. I like them both. They're both by the way, the Atlanta Falcons. Those guys are all like we're talking about the Browns. You really can root for all of them. Like what a great like Pentax. Oh, right young. Oh, like what a great story. Ty Shock. Oh, like you're they're really likeable. Um, yeah, the Falcons. The Falcons. So here's the about the Falcons. The office has been awesome. I really want to see if they could play from behind. Because right now it's be Jean and then play action, right? What happens if you take that off the table? I'm interested in seeing the quarterback and the passing game in those circumstances. Thus far, I mean, who cares? You don't have to play from behind. You're scoring at will. And that's what they've been doing. And then the more surprising thing to me is the pass rush. I thought it would be cheeks. And they're getting after it. The defensive tackle dude. Like the defensive line has been really good. That to me is probably the most shocking part. More so than even Pentax. After one of the most embarrassing losses, is it all over for Aaron Glent?
Please tell my kids. So please. I kind of think it was regardless. I like, you know, but I mean, it was the offense showed some fun. I yeah, I mean, he's really struggled. Clock management issues. Gaint, like it's been because sometimes with you're like, how much do I blame the coach, right? But there's been multiple instances already this season. Where like what are you doing, dude? And his side at the ball, he's not playing well. The defense. So I do think it's funny. Because I thought bowls was going to be the first man out. But he had cardiac bowls. He came back. Yes. He's when he looks happy. Yes, he's two games under 500 with a box. He's still a coach. He's been there for five years. It's just great. Yeah. He's going to be right. Yeah. I do not think Aaron Glenn is going to be the judge coach next season. Yes. Mina, after that win at Buffalo, where's your level of concern with Drake May and this Patriot offense?
I think that he'll be fine. I think you saw against Buffalo a lot of improvement in terms of like just his confidence. I think what was cool about that game was that he was pushing the ball down field, throwing in tight windows, even every through everything. You know, that's transpired before that game in terms of the interceptions, some of the bad decisions. He did not look like a quarterback who was like cowed by it. I think that's really cool. I think getting AJ Brown back is going to be massive though for that offense. And I think he looks like he'll be back I think week six or something if not next week, the week after. But it's a really, really I think losing him was a bigger deal than people thought. The Mina Com show featuring Lenny. Tell Lenny I said hello. Plus you can check her out pregame for Eagles and Jags. This Sunday. I'm so excited for you that you're doing that. That's so awesome. I'll ask question here on the way out for you. Mina, what the hell is going on with the chargers? What is happening? especially right? Yes. When you're the CEO head coach, like this is you dude. And it's everything. Yes. Yeah, it's it's pretty rough out there. It's funny, right? The great Herbert two or a worse. Yes. You remember those? Yes. And that just feels like there's no winners right now. Yes. I mean, Mina, you have all these massive platforms. You drive NFL conversation like nobody else. Why don't you start that with Jim Harbott? You should be on the hot seat. Yes, go ahead. Come on. If they, if they, I mean, if they go 0 and 7, I'll, I'll courageously leave the charge. And every home game this season, Demario Davis, who's going to join us in just a second, is honoring a local community organization and providing a $5,600 grant, a nod to his number 56, Jersey via his devoted Dreamers foundation. And Demario Davis is with us right now. Tell us and the Davis fund, by the way. Tell us about the foundation. Thank you for joining us, man. It's an honor. Man, first, thank you guys for having me on. Secondly, thank you for honoring the project that we get a chance to do through our foundation. My wife and I get a chance to come back home, come back to New Jersey, come back to the team that drafted us. So in our homecoming, we wanted to do something special with our foundation. So much of us and the way that we operate is, man, how do we do something bigger than the game? We don't want the game to be the greatest thing that we do. We want to be able to use this humongous platform that we've been given, to whom much is given, much required to do incredible things.
And so how can we do something to honor other people who are doing great work? And that's what we've done over the next eight games we have, the devoted Change Maker grant. And there's going to be giving $5,600 and recognizing these amazing organizations who are doing these great things three weeks ago when we were at home, we got a chance to honor the Boys and Girls Club of Newark. Nice. Our game, when we play Cleveland, we'll be able to honor teens of color abroad. And this is a great nonprofit that gets to do take kids on cultural, global exchange programs, teach them about learning different languages. So it's really great work that they do. So we just been trying to find an honor organization that are in New Jersey, that are in New York, that are doing great work. How do we celebrate them? And not only will we celebrate them and honor them with the grant, we'll also take them through a leadership cohort to pour into them
and how they're leading in their roles, making sure they have resources around them to sustain their work, to grow their impact. And it's just about honoring those who are doing great work. And so we're blessed to be able to be a blessing. You know, I was thinking about this. It is great work. And I love that you follow through. It's not just, hey, here's $5,600. We're going to keep an eye on you and make sure that everything is okay. But I was thinking about this on my drive in as a lifelong Jets fan. And Mikey is also with the Expo hat on. He is also a lifelong Jets fan. This is your third stint. You can't quit the Jets and the Jets can't quit you. Demario Davis. Get back and coming back this time was was so purposeful. It was the only time actually that I had a say in the matter. The first time I was drafted here, the second time I was traded back. This time, I was in free agency and I had options. And it was a choice to come back here. It was very purposeful and a decision. Honestly, I believe I was meant to be here.
And there was no more important time to me to come back, especially with AG leading the ship. Someone that I had a chance to be around my entire career. And I learned a lot from no better men. And I think to lead us in this time. And so it was very purposeful in coming back. And being able to come into the locker room and be welcome in by the guys. And be a part of what's being built here. It's just been incredible. And so definitely into the throws of it now. And that's what it matters the most is man. Now we are here in the ring and we get to it. And love our group and the love the way we battle. Demario, you mentioned Aaron Glenn. And the numbers aren't great. So can you tell us from the inside of the locker room, why is he the guy to lead us back to a place that we haven't been in almost two decades to playoffs? Well, that's what you got to think about. Okay, it's been a lot of people who've led that have been at the helm. For as you said, multiple decades trying to get to that place. Well, we all know what the standard is.
We all know that the gist of the premium product. We have to get that winning standard there on the field on Sundays. We've got to get to it. And it's a very hard thing to do. Very hard thing to do. Well, you looking at a man who's been through that and knows what it looks like. This is what exactly what happened in a really good team that we went against a couple of weeks ago in Detroit. They had to go through that process. That first year, they lost a bunch of games. That next year, they started I think 1 in 6 or 1 in 7 just. And not that that's the story that we want to go. But once they figured out and got those wins going, then next season, they won like 14 games or something like that. So that's the model that we want to make sure that we're following in. Man, when you're inside the building, I've been on teams that have gone to conference championship games. I've been on teams that lost every game except one in my career. So I've seen the highs and the lows and it's really about the type of locker room and the belief that's in there. You have to have a couple of things or three things specifically. You have to have many of your locker rooms that are resilient.
When adversity hits, people who are going to go to fight, going to go to bat, they're going to get into it. They're not going to crack. And that's what you look at the jets. And I don't know what has been in the past. I was on my early years. It was a really good locker room. I speak very highly of those guys. Those guys I learned from Antonio Camarady, Dereo, Reves, Nick Mangold. There was some guys in the Rex was leading it. When you look at this locker room, this locker room isn't going to crack. It's not going to be about your finger pointing. It's not going to be a blameness, a blameness, a making excuses. Guys are going to be accountable. They're going to say, hey, we need to fix this. And let's go. And that's what you want. You need men that are resilient. Another thing that you need is a strong work ethic. The work that you put in during the week. Man, we are preparing the right way during the week. What we're working on is getting over that hump on Sundays. How do we make sure our preparation translates on Sundays? How do we make sure that we don't beat ourselves on Sunday? That's what we're working towards. That's that next step. We stopped beating ourselves.
We're going to get over that hump. Lastly, you just have to have belief. You have to have everybody in the locker room that's believing upstream. And that's what everybody is. Everybody's on the same page. Anybody ducking their head in this three-game skid. Everybody's like, hey, man, let's just keep going. We're going to keep going straight ahead. And when you establish that, that's a culture. And when you talk about, that doesn't just happen with one person thinking that way. With a few coaches thinking that way, with just the head, man, it has to be established. And that was actually built before I arrived. I noticed that the culture was different. Day one when I got here. So, yeah, it was a trying year for the Jets last year. But I noticed there was something different about the culture. And now that we're in the adversity, hey, man, this team is built for it. And we're going to keep marching until we knock down that wall. And that's what we're doing. We got a home game this week. I guess a hot Cleveland Brown team. You get one win and changes everything. And that's what we're trying to do, man. It's just, let's make sure we execute on Sunday. Let's put the work in again this week. And then we don't get out there on Sunday.
Let's find a way to execute. Love that. Demar, if we talk to you at the end of the season and the season did turn around, what do you think would have changed? I don't think anything would have changed about our process. We always believe we never waver. We never doubt it. And that's one of you know you have the right process. When it's like, man, the storm will come. Because I've been on team that will hide. I've been on the team that will load. And teams that will load that came back high. I was a part of it all, especially in New Orleans. That's why I was so excited to come here. Because I believe my journey had prepared me to be here. And to be one of the leaders in this moment. And to how do you move, move us into making sure that our winning on the field matches the rest of our brand. We are a lead brand. And we need to play like it. How do we get there when you're talking about moving an entire culture there establishing that winning mentality when you haven't had it. That's a very hard thing to do. But so much of it is there. And what you want to have is your process right that you can endure the storm.
Because when adversity hits, everybody wants to try to attach history. Oh, here we go again. Oh, this is negative. No, no, no, no. We're going straight. We had a process that we believe, man. Let's keep going. And you keep going. You keep going. And when you get when that opportunity that moment strikes, like you think about last game, it was a rough game. But we had our moments to strike. And we missed those moments. As a team that's growing, we're going to learn how to win those moments. When we get when we get the ball inside of a 30, let's get them. Or we we we we got third and five in a crucial moment of game. Let's get off the field. We've pinned them deep. Let's keep them down here. When we have those moments to strike, we got to do it. And that's what we're working towards. So I love our process. And that's what we're doing. We're working towards getting those moments on Sunday. And we right there. Demario, I have to say this on behalf of Mikey A of all jet fans. I've never felt better being a jet fan. I just wanted to say I love you, man. I love you. I do. I love you. That's it. I love you. I love the attitude.
You mentioned your journey. Your journey did take you to New Orleans. You were there. I think, you know, six, seven seasons. And so I'm wondering, you know what last night meant to that city. You love New Orleans. I'm wondering how emotional that was for you watching that. I know you weren't there for the game with Gleason. But you still spent a good portion of your career in New Orleans. I was at emotional for you last night watching that game. Absolutely. Absolutely. New Orleans will always be like a second home to me. This is this is my home. This is where it all started. But that'll always be like a second home. I talked about a city that took my family and embraced us and showed us so much love. Man, be forever and dead to that. Always have a lot of love for that city. Man, that was such a huge moment. Love the way the NFL covered. And captured that moment of the 20th anniversary of the dome coming. What that meant for the city to be able to come back. How much had to go into man, a city losing it essentially everything. And man, that that place essentially being a sanctuary for most.
There was a shelter for a lot of people. In that time after Hurricane Katrina and then not being able to play in the stadium, the team going away and then fighting to get that stadium reopened. And what it meant for them to be there. And the way they honor Steve Pleas and he's all living down there. Man, playing the Falcons, special team played change the game. And what he's done in his condition with ALS. And how he's been a champion of that. That's the type of people that's there. That's the type of resiliency that's there in that city. Fortunately, the team didn't come away with the win. I know they would have loved to get that. But it was so much to honor that I thought they did an incredible job. Shout out to the league and how they covered that. Little change up here. Better food city. New Orleans or New York. That's a tough one, man. It really is. You're going to make an enemy today. Because I've been, I've spent some time in New Orleans. That food is delicious, man. Maybe delicious, man. But but up here too, you know, it has it's precious, man. It depends on what you're going for.
If you want, you want to go Italian. Yeah. If you want some some extra seasoning. For me, no, no, it just depends on what you're looking for. Man, you got options. Yeah. Demari, I have a rational confidence when it comes to things that I think I could do. And I was watching. I was watching the Bears and you guys with your goal line stands where they have first and goal from the one and you guys held them out for four straight plays. The average person, how many times could I score from from the one yard line running behind an NFL line? Demari, let me say this. Okay. He looks like an average person. But like yourself, he was a track star. He went to North Carolina and he walked onto the Carolina football team. So he's a decent athlete. That's all I'm telling you before you answer. That's it. Yeah. No, I'm like you. I like you down there, man. I think firstly, man, that was incredible. Because I was open and driving the game. They had drove all the way down the field and they had made some explosive plays.
Which we don't like to give up. But in that moment, it really just kind of talked about something that what coach had challenged us our red zone effort and making sure that we able to get off the field when we get down there. Just as being and don't break mentality. And so that was good, man. I think we ended the day like two of seven in the red zone, which was something that we wanted to work on doing the weekend. We showed up. Just it really speaks to our progress. But man, you get in the game and get behind our office of line, man. It just depends on who on the other side, brother. That's all. What if he had reshared as full back? Do you think he could get in? I mean, what do you think? That's a good one, man. We turn for him, bro. You got to go low. Go low. Tomorrow, the problem would be is you would hit me one time and I think I would quit. We all would. Yes. Doc, but you can get in there and you can live with that for them. Yeah. Go ahead, Mike. Tomorrow, real quick. Last one for me on the way out. Hardest person in the NFL to tackle. Wow.
Wow, wow, wow. That's a good point. You know who's who's really tough, not necessarily the tackle, but to get to is a BGN in Robinson. Oh, man. No kidding. Yeah, he was he was good. That's all right, man. You're talking about man. You mess around and let that brother get two, three steps on you. It's night night. And he's a challenge and a Gibbs Gibbs. Both of those, they have elite speed. Yeah. For running back, if they can break a tackle or two or catch the ball in their in space, that elite speed, man, they end on for you. No, it so that makes a very challenging tomorrow. Yeah, we appreciate it, man. It's listen, I'm honored that you're representing the Jets. Thank you because you are. You're brother's may y'all be blessed. Yes. One more time, though, on the way out. If you wouldn't mind, promote Devoted Dreamers Foundation and the Davis Fund. Real quick. Absolutely, man. Everybody stay tuned for the Devoted Change. Make a grant. We'll be honoring different organizations in the Tri-State area, Georgia, New York, that are doing great work, working with young people.
We got a chance to honor the Boys and Girls Club. We're new, we get a chance to honor the teens of colored abroad. If you know of any organizations, make sure you let us know. We want to make sure we recognize and represent those who are doing the great work, man. It's just those who do and work and continue and carry those who do and work as well. All right, man. We appreciate it. I'd like to do this more often before you retire and take all our jobs. But thank you, DiMario Davis. We appreciate it. Thank you, doc. You're welcome. Thank you, sir. See you, man.
