About this episode

“Law transforms agreement into reality, a word becomes an agreement and agreement becomes a contract, a contract becomes law. Today Harvey, the AI platform for legal work is writing the next chapter.”From the transcript

The Washington Commanders are headed to London, but Jayden Daniels is officially OUT and Marcus Mariota will make his second straight start as Washington faces the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

On today’s Commanders Squad, Nick Ashooh, former Washington WR Anthony Armstrong and David Harrison break down everything you need to know before Commanders vs. Colts in London.

Mariota is coming off a huge performance in Washington’s 33-31 win over the Seattle Seahawks, throwing three touchdown passes with no interceptions. Now the question is whether he can do it again against an Indianapolis defense allowing an NFL-worst 417.3 yards per game.

We’ll also dive into Jayden Daniels’ elbow injury and recovery, why Washington is keeping him out despite his return to practice with a brace, and what his progress could mean moving forward.

Plus:

• Marcus Mariota vs. the Colts defense and what Washington’s offense should look like without Daniels
• Jonathan Taylor vs. Washington’s run defense, which enters Week 4 ranked third in the NFL at 82 rushing yards allowed per game
• Sonny Styles and the Commanders defense after Washington’s big win over Seattle
• Why Washington’s struggling pass defense remains a major concern
• The latest on Sam Cosmi, Nick Cross, Rachaad White, Frankie Luvu, Chigoziem Okonkwo, Javon Kinlaw, David Ojabo Omenihu, Daron Payne Patrick and Ben Sinnott
• The importance of protecting Mariota and establishing the run against Indianapolis
• Why this London matchup matters so much with both the Commanders and Colts entering at 1-2
• Can Washington finally earn its first international victory in franchise history?

The Commanders and Colts kick off Sunday, October 4 at 9:30 AM ET on NFL Network from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Washington is making its first trip to London since 2017 and enters the game 0-2-1 all-time in international games.

Yes indeed, the English breakfast tea and football on the tube as well. Now you get to hit the intro and hang out with us for Lockdown Commanders. We are getting closer and closer to the commanders playing the Colts in Foggy London town and we're going to make British jokes throughout the show, probably tri-bat accents on top of that. Anthony Armstrong, Nick Aschew, David Harrison at some point will be on with us. He has had a lot of issues with the British Wi-Fi that's out there.

Apparently Anthony London doesn't know how to do internet because he's really struggling with it right now. So we're just going to see what it looks like today. Yeah, we will figure it out. He'll be here, maybe in just audio. Who knows, though? I can't wait for his insight, especially from over there across the pond. This will be a fun show today because it's the day before the day before. I used to always have a coach say that and then he would sit there and take me another 20 seconds. I understand. I was like, oh yeah, he's about to survive, eh? Because it's the day before the day before the game, man. We're almost time. My guy's got Jackson on believe in command. It was breaking down just the statistics of how difficult it is to come back when you're one and two to get to the Super Bowl and two and two and then one and three and all as other jazz. Somebody's coming home two and two. I need to be the boys wearing the burgundy and gold because we need to get ourselves on a little momentum, right? A little momentum to start the season. I can picture Scott Jackson now. Listen, it's not easy for them to come back from this situation. So let me give you the numbers here. That's my Scott Jackson.

That's exactly what it was. Yeah, it's got the Scott and I go way back. So I've got all of them. You know, there's quite a bit there. We're brought to you by Fandall. Welcome to your most rewarding NFL season ever only on Fandall. So we know that Jaden Daniels is not going to play against the Colts, which Anthony, I think is the right call. I mean, he's practicing a little bit. He's got the brace going on and I like the fact that they're actually, they're keeping everybody guessing, right? Like the goal right now is he might play. We don't know. We're taking a day by day, which is the right approach. That's the Bill Belichek approach. That's the Patriots approach. Like I'm cool with all that. The fact right now that even though Jaden Daniels is not going to play against the Colts in London again, right call. The fact that we're even having this conversation of it being a possibility given that we sat here on this show, not that long ago, thinking that his season might even be done, that the season for this team might be done after a game and a half. That's it. It was basically a game and a half into the season, man, to be here now and at least be looking at the possibility of Jaden Daniels back in a couple of weeks next week, whatever

it is, that's a, that's a serious miracle. And I feel like the football gods have said, no, no, no, no, no, no, my friends this year, it won't be as bad as last year. Man, I tell you, it's one of those ones you got to walk by, walk by faith and not by sight, right? You got to just make sure you show up every game, right? And just play that one individual game. And I think that this team is built in a way just, they're always good at being the underdog, right? They're always better when they have their back against the wall. They're always better when somebody doubts them. And I think that now knowing those statistics that Scott shared, knowing that it's a difficult road to get back to the top, knowing that people already want to write you off, you know, you can go into this matchup and say, hey, let's focus on beating this team. Let's focus on beating the Colton in. When you turn the page, you go to the next week, you can focus on beating that one single team. 2025, they spent all that time thinking that, hey, we're as good as we were last year, we're going to give back there. It's going to be a breeze. The football guy said, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Now I think you see people coming in with a different mindset. They understand that their only opportunity is now, Scott. They only, they, Scott, you're not Scott Nick. They know that I can be Scott if you want me to. I'm Scott Jackson. We know that this is your only opportunity, right? You have to take advantage of what's right in front of you and it's starting in London 930 Eastern, three and a half point dogs on the road, on the road, on the big road. Who cares? You got to come back with it up. You got to come back victorious. And then I think this team steps up to the challenge and his ways to get a victory, I guess this cold squad. All right. Let's see if David Harrison actually has Wi-Fi. David, is your Wi-Fi good or is it bad British Wi-Fi still? I'm just trying to know on myself. Okay. Hey, you know, sounds pretty good. I think we'll work with this. Yeah, we're good. So funny enough, I was trying to show you my food and my laptop just died. So not only does my internet not work, but my laptop can't hold a charge. So, you know, we're just, we're just hanging on my thread out here. Did you just say the commanders are three point underdogs? Yeah, do change.

No, that's just crazy. Well, I'm looking up. Why would the commanders be three point underdogs after they was under the sea hawks? Unless, yeah, you have to be the sea hawks. Time is at one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. Yeah. He was anybody can see that you're going across the marit is to quote Marshall Cramsey, sports director, WSA 9, a shoelace away from busing out several big runs. You got Austin Echler coming back. You got Terry, you got Steph. I guess the secondary that has had nothing but communication problems. You got Chigga Conquo coming back. I'll give the osmakers credit. Chigga Conquo, they probably just knew today that Chigga Conquo was going to, because they listen to a lot of commanders and probably believe on commanders and probably 1067 the fan Nick Asu, they had been known to Chigga Conquo was probably coming back. The commander is now Frankie Lou back. They got a pretty, pretty solid pass for us. They just popped off three takeaways against defending super well. I don't know why the commanders are underdog. Three and a half. I would take a man is three and a half point dogs on Fandall right now.

Yeah. I don't find a single one London, but I'm about to find out. I'll tell you that right now. I'm not playing the last six. I'll play the band for you if you want. Right now the commanders, the commanders of plus three and a half are even money right now. There's a lot of value if you want to take them. Your past that key number. I know it's not a betting show, but I'll just throw that out there for you guys. It's actually just some to, it listen. If you think the commander is going to win this game, taking the commanders to cover that three and a half on Fandall's pretty good spot. So I would take it. But you know, listen, it's, I think this is, this is, we know we're not going to have Jane Daniels out there, but Marcus Marriotto through three touchdowns. I'm like, we talked about this on Monday after the game, right? Like it wasn't like Marcus Marriotto had a great game. He was 19 to 31, but he did throw the three touchdowns. He played well. He also was a backup quarterback, but the fact that you saw the defense step up and make plays for the most part, obviously there are some guys like Mikey San Resoul that had a lot of issues. But you got some game, you got some game changing plays from this defense. You've got some other names that are going to be on their way back for this team. There is a chance from momentum really for them right now that goes beyond just, hey,

you beat Seattle, but it's like, there was a feeling it's before you got on here, David, like we're a game and half into the season. We're watching Jane Daniels elbow go the wrong way, thinking the season's now going to go the wrong way. A game and a half into the season. I'm I was over football after that. I don't want to watch second half. I don't want to watch any other games. I was over it. I'm sure most people were, but to now be in this position where Jane Daniels has the opportunity to come back in a week, maybe, maybe two, whatever the case is, like we're having the conversation about like maybe, maybe not before this game, even though most people knew that wasn't going to be the case. Like there is a different feel right now around this team sitting here in this moment. One and two going into London, playing the Colts, even as dogs versus being Owen three with Jane Daniels missing a month, two months, rest of the season, whatever the case is, like the narrative has changed so much around this team. The win was the most important thing over Seattle, but all of these other factors that are in there as well. It shows you like, hey, I don't know. Maybe we shouldn't get too concerned so quickly before we have more information.

I know it's hard. Roll scar. I'm scarred. I've watched this team and I love them. It's tired of like what happened last year, but it felt like the sky was falling. The world was coming to an end. And now it's like, hmm, you'd be two and two after this. And then you got the giants, by the way, who have what James Winston to quarterback, you'd be three and two heading into Monday night football playing the 49ers. David, I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I'm just saying that the narrative and the feeling around this team versus where we were after the Cowboys game is very, very different. Yeah, I mean, looking, that's a 49ers team. The main I haven't received right by the time that game that game arrives, right? I know, I know 13. That's a source for you. So we won't talk too much about that. I don't want you pulling something just thinking about that situation there. But, you know, so here's what I will say. And I feel like I feel like now I can kind of double just right. But, you know, some viewers of Lockdown Commaers may have been like, man, this David Harrison guy is not concerned about this situation as much as he should be. And every day or club members know this because I send them a text Sunday nights from Dallas telling them that I've been told wasn't as bad as last time, that the injury was not

as bad as last time and that it wasn't going to be as long of a situation as last time. So I came out of Dallas thinking this and this is what I said on Lockdown Commaers. If I were to tell you coming into the season that the washroom areas are going to compete for a playoff spot, the washroom areas were going to compete for the NSE East Division because the Philadelphia Eagles are not going to be as good as they were because people have another year studying that defense and it's exact formation, by the way. The thing about like Vic Fangio is a genius, but Anthony, you can you can you can talk more about this after I'm done with my soapbox here. If you don't add significant personnel or significant layers of depth to any units, it starts to become a little bit repetitive because a lot of times coaches will lean on what they know worked and they'll just continue to do those things until people prove that it's not going to work anymore. Well, this is the year that people can prove that that Eagles defense can be manipulated. Now, you still got to do it, right? That's the big T and of course, Jalen Carter playing through injury isn't going to help their cause, any, but there's a there's a window there. Sean Manning is offense not really

fitting the quarterback. There's a window there. The offensive line not being as good as been. There's a window there. So the Eagles step back a little bit. The Dallas Cowboys defense still is the Dallas Cowboys defense. They're still going to put up a lot of points, but they're so very vulnerable. So that whole situation still exists. The New York Johnson is always going to be two years away, even with Harbock coming in there. So you have all those so the washmakers are going to compete for an NSE title. They're going to compete for the playoffs, but they're going to do it going one and one against Eagles and one and one against Dallas Cowboys. If I were to tell you that before the schedule came out, you'd be okay with that. You would say you would you want you would be okay with it. Two, you would say I could see that happening. Now, once the schedule came out and it's well, you got Cowboys and Eagles back to back, Eagles Cowboys, whatever you got Eagles Cowboys back to back. Now if you go into it's always me. Listen, if you go one and one against the Philadelphia Eagles in week three and week 17 and one and one against the Dallas Cowboys in week six and week 12, it's the same thing. Like I want everybody to understand this. That is the same thing as if you go one and one against Eagles and week one and week nine or eight, eight, eight, we've won and we get and one and one against Cowboys

in week two and we gave team. It counts the same. This isn't spade map. There's no bags in this. There's no, when you lost in week two, so you get two extra bags like there's no bags. The loss is count the same no matter what week say coming. So I know the stats say, oh, a team to start Oh and two, the reason team to start Oh and two, don't make to the playoffs that office because typically the teams to start Oh and two aren't very good. Right. This commander's team was different. This commander's team, yes, started Oh and two, but was one of four major mistakes in week one from coming away with the victory literally make one less mistake. That's it. One less mistake and you win that game. They were a Jaden Daniels injury away granted from winning that week two games. I'm telling you right now, if they if Jaden doesn't get stepped on, that toss plays going in the end zone and they're going to win that game coming out of the house and the in wash commanders are that close to two and oh versus Oh and two. So yes, I understand the math between Oh and two teams, but not every Oh and two team is the exact same, right. So this to me is arguably I didn't do it at the time, but probably was the best Oh and two team in

the NFL entering week three. And then they go out there and they take the ball away three times going to Seattle sea hawks should have had two more takeaways against Seattle sea hogs gave the ball away. None times went down in score three touchdowns with your backup quarterback should have had another big run run touchdown if a rookie didn't make a rookie mistake and we will forgive him for that. And oh, by the way, you don't have the continuity. You don't have the reps. You don't have the time on task because your backup quarterback has started his first game of the year and you went out there and you still did what you did against the Seattle sea hawks and you didn't get given a win, right? Because those two last two third down those last two third down conversions did not happen on accident. They didn't stumble into those last two third down conversions. They were set up throughout the entirety of the game and David Bloss said, this is the exact moment we got to break that glass. Not when the game is close, but when the game is on the line, that's when we're going to break that glass. Very first read option of the game. Very first zone stretch audible of the game by actually Marcus Mario. So credits, Marcus Mario on both of those plays, but David Bloss for calling that last read option. None of that happened

by accident, right? So this is yet and yes, this is a one in two team. But here's why I'm bullish on this team right now. I think they're going to win this game 27 to 10 on Sunday. It's because I think this is the best one in two team in the national football league. And I say that not even actually knowing all the one in two teams in the national football league. And I would actually even venture to say that if I took time to do the research, I might come to the conclusion and something's going to call me a homer. And that's okay. But this is the best one in two team that we've seen probably in the last three to five NFL seasons because this team again is a dislocated elbow and one mistake away from me in three. Yeah. But that's just I got your one in situation. I got your one in two teams here. Ready? Jets for this season. Yeah. Yeah. Jets. Okay. One in two. Yeah. Patriots. One in two. Yep. Coles obviously one in two. Yeah. We want to find out on Sunday. Boys one in two. Definitely. Packers one in two. Yeah. And then literally the NFC salad

everybody Carolina New Orleans and Atlanta all one in two. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not just God, but the big 10 might be better than the NFC sound. It's been this way for years now at this point. But I'm going to throw one. All right. Arizona. I think that's that's an easy one. Obviously better than that one in two. But I got one for you though. The Rams are one in two. Are you more confident in the commanders being a better team? The Rams? I don't think I can buy it on that. I would say I can't wait for week nine. That's what I was saying. All right. Fair enough. Let's find out week nine. Let's find out week nine with a better team is from those two teams. So, you know, and then coming into this week now you have time on task. Now you have reps for Mark's Mariotta because I understand on the J and Dana. So believe me, Mark's Mariotta has been getting first team reps. He's been getting time on task with Steph with Terry because you even look at that. He always game and yes, like, like, it ends up being a two point game. But look at the early passes for Mark's Mariotta Stefan digs and how they weren't necessarily late. But like, hitting the window in time to give stuff a clean opportunity to make some of those receptions, there

was a disconnect there, right? Like, Marcus was throwing him into contact a little bit. And that's not something you want to do. And even though stuff has really good, you know, test the catch numbers and all that kind of stuff, you don't want to do that to him, right? So time on task for that time on task with Terry McClore and has shown. I remember. So I remember very vividly Kansas City last year. What was that week nine, right? Kansas City last year. Terry McClore is supposed to call is supposed to throw or supposed to run a box fade and and Mark's Mariotta is throwing the box fade, right? Mark's Mariotta comes up, sees man, sees a safety on Terry McClore and says box fade for a touchdown. Let's go get some gatorade, right? He throws up the box fade ball lanes exactly where you want to land right before the front pile on left side of the end zone. And there's no 17. And everybody at home is like, what is Mark's Mariotta doing? What is Mark's Mariotta? This is why you're back up this way. But it's actually Terry McClore and the messed up that play. They didn't see the play the right way. Terry saw one thing, Marcus saw the right thing and they didn't go right, right? So it shows you the evolution and relationships and understanding each other, the fact that they on the fly on the fly, no calls, no checks, no signals, turn a 12 yard

curl into a 30 yard touchdown. So that shows you the evolution of the relationship between quarterback and the receiver. And you watch Marcus Mariotta play something that stood out to me and then he that, I don't know if I'm just overthaking it because of whatever jet leg. The fact that I'm eating a German doughnut robot for the first time in like 10 years on love and it. But Marcus Mariotta looked like a quarterback. And like a lot of fans will hear me say this and be like, well, shouldn't every offense run this way? But I'm telling you, rarely doesn't offense run this way. Unfortunately, but Marcus Mariotta looks like a quarterback who doesn't just have the call from his coach and the check from his coach, the kill. He also has an entire like madden toolbox of just anything that he wants to run at his disposal. When Marcus comes online, he's got two plays already. The David Blossas. Hey, I think we're good here. Comes to the line says, you know what? I don't like number one. He's not just stuck with number two. It's not just one or two. He now can say, you know what? I don't remember one and I don't really like number two either. So he checked it out. Terry, you

do this. John Bayes do this. Oh, I do that. Hey, running back, you're doing that stuff. You do that. Antonio, you do that fans. You're ready to cheer you ready on through. Let's go. And the veteran savvy, the veteran experience and knowledge of Marcus Mariotta really showed up in that Seahawks game because like there are I got promised you there are plays several plays multiple plays that happen in that game that David Blossas didn't call like when even the play called what even the kill and David Blossas and they're going like, damn right. You know what I mean? They're all in the they're all in the menu. They're all in the restaurant, right? The ingredients are all in David Bloss kitchen. But what David Blossas doing because he's a quarterback is giving his chef the quarterback on the field everything and just saying, bro, go make us a five star dinner. And Marcus Mariotta showed what he could do with that with those ingredients. And that's why I think you know, yeah, any apples culture cook, bro. Yeah. Yeah. See that that right there is like the difference between like making a play

and like like sometimes you say make a play. The coach will say make a play, but you're running what I'm calling don't change my stuff. Don't change my play call. This is what it is. And then you get a guy that wrote the defense calls a cover that beats that play. And then you're just kind of stuck. And I remember distinctly hearing in the off season, I think I heard maybe Terry say it. He's like, it feels good that you can go up to the line of scrimmage and you have an answer. Or you have an answer for what the defense is doing, right? If they're going to do this, hey, cool, that's fine. We're going to switch up and go here. And it's good that Marcus is so in tune with this offense because just looking at the tape of the Colts, the Luanna rumo defense, they're going to rock a roll of safety. I mean, that's strong safety starts on the line of scrimmage. You may come up thing and he's going to blitz. But if you're, you know, they're going to back him out. Here comes the strong say the free safety rolling down in a robbery completely switch responsibilities. So recognizing where people are at ahead of time where they're going to finish at the plays that you can beat those specific looks at. That's good. That's good to be

able to have that trust. And frankly, you go back and you look, Marcus Marriota was what? Number two overall selection is played 12 years in this league. The collaborative effort on offense, you got to give some bison love. You got to drop your pride and say, hey, man, I played in the league too, but you have obviously played a lot longer. You got a lot of football. What do you like? What do you want to put in there? And let's go drive this Cadillac across the gold line. So I love hearing all of that from from from that offense and just to control because Marcus looks much more in control of it. You know what I mean? He gets behind the wheel that's you can still have success and still move the ball down the field. So I like how it's looking right now. And you mentioned being the best one in two team. It is I feel like as one of those ones, you're going to have to throw that record that stat out about not being able to make it to the playoffs or super bowl of things that nature because the injury bug is out and that's already changing everything. So some of the teams that you thought they're like, they got people that are hurt, right? And so you just got to kind of show up every

single week and just win the ball games, win the matchups as they come to you and then you let it all get sorted out at the end. We know eight is going to be out there throwing the football. The question is now, will he be throwing it to 17 out there on the field? We got some interesting news when it comes to Terry McClure and where he sits. Well, look at that next year Commander Squad. I'm going to go get some of David's killing me right now, eating something that looks amazing. And I'm just sitting here like, yep, all I've had is a protein shake today. So there's that. Uh, so Terry McClure has got a hamstring issue that's going, oh, let me see. Whoa, look at that box. We got to give a shout out to GVK. I'm going to German donor Kabab is what that means. You've never had a German donor Kabab, which is actually a Turkish food, but they make it the best in Germany. I'm telling you, let's I spent nine years in my army career station in Germany. And when I tell you that I have had

so many of so many donor Kababs that I can't even count them. I'm not close to joking. And I never thought I would find them again. I've been praying for the commanders go to Germany. So I get in on it and I looked it up in this place as the highest rated and we've talked my AI before the show. My AI Larry told me like, this will remind you of Germany. And man, it has done the job. I'm saving half of it because I got to get my butt kicked in the gym here in a little bit. I want to have a nice treat waiting for me for when I get back lots of protein. It's about it's about a thousand calories. Nice. And about 65 grams of protein. So it's not the best ratio, but it is it is worth it if you earn it. That's I'll just put it that way. That's so good. I'm killing me. I can't wait to you. Can't wait to get a lot of sponsorship. Although I'm open to it, but he wouldn't be able to say what his man is when I'm feeling that does sound good right now. So what do we know at this point, David about Terry McClure and Tamstring? This is kind of a new

thing here. And as we're doing this show live, obviously if somebody's watching later on YouTube or the podcast later, there might be more information. But as of right now here Friday afternoon, what do we know? Yeah, this is hard. And you know what I mean? Like obviously Terry is number one weapon. He's number one receiver. And if he can't go for whatever reason, that's going to put a damper on a lot of plans. You know what I mean? I think the good news is looking at the Indianapolis Colts and you know, Louis and Arumo doesn't have the reputation of Vic Fangio has, but Louis and Arumo is a very smart defensive coordinator. He's been around for a very long time. There's a lot of ball things like that. He kind of got the kind of got the scapegoat treatment and Cincinnati because he was Cincinnati Bangles decordinator. And you know, they didn't really never gave him anything to work with other than Trey Andrickson. And then he was always pissed off. So anyway, but he ran a lot of man coverage early in the season. Ran a lot of mancoge early in the season is like dog, you can't do that against commanders. So if you run man, even without Terry, if you run man with

Deami, Steph, Chig, Austin, Eccler on the field, you're going to get cooked. Like you're just, you're just going to get torched. And a lot of the reason the Colts defense struggled in coverage with that man coverage. And this is a lot of this is coming from Zach Higgs with locks on Colts. Is because of communication issues, that communication issues. They weren't, you know, they weren't covering the right guys doing the right assignments on this. So there is apparently a theory in Indianapolis that he's going to switch to more of a zone coverage scheme this weekend. One, because of the matchup. And you know, he's probably smart enough to realize like we go man against his team, we're probably done. Two, because of the struggles that his team has had, but the struggles of communication, and you go to zone Anthony, correct me if I'm wrong, that, that, doesn't necessarily bode well for communication issues. If you, if you switched the zone and you're trying to match and you're trying to do all the other stuff. So the culture in a bad way as far as communication is concerned. So like, is it going to affect the ultimate outcome of the game as far as who wins and who loses? I think that that's a little bit dependent. Which you need is

you're going to need either Chigga Conqo or Deami Brown to really kind of step up and not become the new number one receiver, but elevate from where they are right now. And you know, Chig is kind of hard to say just because you haven't seen much of them this season. But like Deami would have to be able to come up with a few big catches. But also like I said, you have that run game. You have three running backs now. I think Austin, that's a plan. You got Bill, you got K-Tron Allen. And we know that David Blow likes to be balanced, likes to commit to the run game. So I mean, look, I still think commanders are going to win this game even if Terry can't go, but clearly, clearly, right? Like, let's not be crazy. I know I'm saying a lot of bold things, but let's not be stupid. It's clearly a much less sure thing. It's not even a sure thing, but it's a much less sure thing if 17's on on the field. Yeah, Terry is going to affect the defense. He's one of those guys that you put the penny on the scout team player and you base your defense off of that. Right? I mean, we mentioned the safeties rocking and rolling. They may not want to bring a safety down late and leave the corner

on its own with the safety on the far hash trying to cover such a long way against Terry McCorme, right? But if you don't have them, they may be more prone to trying to play up in the box, bring eight, eight man fronts to try to force the hand of the quarterback and be more aggressive. As David mentioned, they may not want to play a lot of man, but with no Terry, they may feel okay with that. So it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out. And then with the communication in zone, we saw week one and week two, there was a lot of communication and a lot of pointing and a lot of chatter. And then they were people wide open in the end zone. So communicating more going to zone may my, I guess they want them to simplify things for them, right? Because if you play man and you're not on the same page about who's taking who and cross releases and bunch sets like that, gets you in trouble. But then if you play zone and you're not really pattern matching is what the term A like to use where sometimes zone schemes turn into man, you may get somebody that's over there just that's just pointing and saying, Hey, oh, here he comes here, come somebody and then they don't

end up adjusting. So I'm going to hope the fact that Mario is on top of his game and he can hit some receivers in some of those open spaces while they're trying to figure some things out on the D for they're still trying to make a connection. Yeah, I mean, listen, if Terry can't go, then obviously more responsibility falls on, I mean, multiple names, at least it's not just one, but Stefan Diggs, we saw, you know, getting the end zone three times in the first two games and he's not necessarily putting up a ton of yards, but he's making the plays that they need at the right time there and check the concoa, obviously, as massive value here. And this might be another opportunity for somebody like an Antonio Williams to really step in and get some extra opportunities here. But you know, David, you brought up something I think that is important. I think it was you that said it. I mean, go with the commitment to the run. Yeah, it was you brains fried, but it's, you know, it's like, I say that, of course, and you're still over in London in a different time zone and jet lag. But hey, it is, it is what it is. But you know, look, you, you, you obviously have a team that is still going to try and run the football where they can. I mean, but Bill had 19 carries, but it was only like 35 yards. It's not like he did a ton against Seattle, but at least they're still trying to

keep defenses on their toes and keeping that anticipation that they're still going to make the run a part of their offense, which is a big change from where they were last year. But you know, look, let's make no mistake about this, man, like Terry McClore and his still incredibly valuable to this offense. Like, as he may be the Terry McClore, that he was before the big contract he just got maybe not, but we haven't had that much of a sample size. Now he's hurt mostly last year. We've seen a little bit this year. Am I concerned that he's maybe a step slower? I mean, could, but Terry McClore was never like the fastest guy anyway. It's the contested catches. It's the smart plays that he makes. It's the great route running. It's all of those other things where it's not just about being the fastest guy in the field. That was never what Terry McClore's biggest strength was anyway for this team. But you know, the one thing that we've seen this year compared to last year is that there is a lot more of a next man up mentality and it makes sense with this team. They do have more depth. They do have more talent. Last year, they got exposed. They got exposed because they just didn't have the talent. And yeah, it was an insane amount of injuries and it kept piling up. And there's a certain point where you've just, you know, drained it completely dry. And

there's nothing left. And there's no more that you can do. And I know that next man up is kind of a cliche at times. But I just, I don't worry as much like if Terry McClore and can't go, I'm not as worried because I do think this is a much more creative offense. And even with Marcus Mario to out there, we've seen that they find ways to make plays and still whether it's offensively or defensively here, which I think is another thing to think about too, David is like this defense certainly is different than where it was last year. This is a defense that clearly is in a spot where they are more aggressive. They are generating more turnovers. I mean, we saw the two picks. What do we say before the game last week? I was like the only way that this team wins this game. And I said on the pre game show too. And I felt like a crazy person. I was like, here's the slight chance that the commanders actually have to beat Seattle. And it's if the defense is actually to be able to make Sam Donnell's life hell. And that same that goes now here for somebody like Daniel Jones, who we know has had some games against the commanders over the years in a giant uniform. But to get after the quarterback to generate turnovers to force, you know, extra possession, shortfield,

some of those types of things, that's what also helped Marcus Mario in the offense last week. To where if Terry McClaurne is out, it may not just be like, hey, another receiver steps up, David, it's actually, hey, the defense might have to make some plays too. We might not get a Kane-Madrano pick six, but like something like that along those lines is also part of the three phases of the game. It's not just one guy's out at wide receiver. So another wide receiver has to step up. There's other ways that teams can win games and fill those voids. And that might be it for him. Yeah, I mean, I go back to the I go back to the menu, right? That Marcus Mario has, you know, in his back pocket and the full usage of everything that David Blow has installed into this offense, right? You come to the line of scrimmage, you know, let's say you got, you say you got Steph, Diamie, and Chig on the field as your receivers, you got Bill in the backfield, and you come up to the line of scrimmage, you're like, all right, Steph is obviously my new number one receiver, Chig is my second weapon in the passing game, and they got Sawaskardner sitting over Steph. All right, well, on the play call we got right now, that probably takes stuff away, but there

are things that I can do now. I can, I can send Diamie Brown over here and I can put him, I can bunch him up and I can run a switch. And you know what, maybe Sawstays with Steph, and you see it gets on top of him for us to be forget in there. But if that other guy who's been having communication issues doesn't trigger appropriately, that might open up Diamie Brown on some sort of a slant or as I'm, as I'm clearing, as Diamie is clearing through the middle of the field, you know, if one of those communication issues pops up in that linebacker drifts too far, trying to anticipate that safety drifts too far, that might open Chig up on that dig that he's going to be running, you know, behind that or underneath that or however it's aligned. And worst case scenario, if none of that works, you know, I got Austin Eglier, the old, old reliable running back, who's going to be sitting there running you a two yard turnaround looking at me and holding his hands out and saying, give me the football and let me go show everybody how healthy this Achilles is. So, you know, it's, it's thing, I think I put Bill in the backfield, right, Bill of Bill can catch the ball, too. So, you know, it's just, it's just that look at it, it's about having answers, right? But it's about having answers that Marcus Mario to get to pick, you know what I mean? It's like, it's like taking a multiple choice test and you're like, well, I'm going to put the right answer at A, I'm going

to put the right answer at B, I'm going to put the almost right answer at C, and they'll put the wrong answer at D. And as long as Marcus Mario comes in line and says, oh, look at all these answers I have, not the defense I have, I'm just not going to pick the wrong one. As long as Marcus just consistently doesn't pick the wrong one, then yeah, they should be fine. Oh, no, I had no, let me make sure we good here. You mentioned the word balance. You mentioned the word balance. Some of the stats on the, on the year, total passes thrown a passing attempts 100 rushing attempts 96. These suckers are, are balanced, right? Here's a stat I love to see. Thanos would be proud. Thanos would be proud. Seven, seven touchdown zero interception. I love seeing that, right? I love seeing the fact that they had the three turnovers last week. They're playing really smart ball. Okay, really smart ball. And you mentioned the 19 for 36, you know, I got, I got bill on my fancy football team and those 36 so you David have a good workout. Those 36 didn't necessarily like,

you know, they didn't light up my fancy football board, but as a fan of the game and as a, as I'm watching the team, I'm happy with the 19 carries because it does show that commitment to the run and it lets you know that the defense can't take that playoff, right? On the broadcast, they were trying to bash it and say, well, eventually you got to quit wasting those downs and you're just going from third, first and 10 to second and nine. It's like, well, I'd rather be second and nine than second and 10. I have an incompletion and then I have to try to find some rhythm through that. So I'm cool with them playing in the run. They're going to have to come through this thing physical anyways in this matchup. The four is buckner is a big guy up in the middle. They're going to have to move around and they're going to have to give some change up to that cult front. They're going to want to try to get things done with four and being able to be physical in the run game will be helpful. They're going to force to bring some of those safeties down into play and if Terry McCorn is gone, but you've had success run the rock now, what you get Nick, play action passes. Okay, so now you're going to be able to affect them that way. Marcus is really good with the play

action. I think really good with the hand faking the handoffs and you're going to have options on the back end of people to hit. So just watch us some table against Houston. There's some money out there. There is some money out there. If you recognize the formations of what you're getting on the back end, they should be able to take advantage of what the cults give them. Was last week a fluke for the commanders or does that win over Seattle create momentum? Not just Sunday against the cults, but through the rest of the season. We'll look at that next on Commander Squad. The NFL is full of games that you plan for all year, right? But sometimes the best memories come from the games that you almost missed, right? And game time makes it easy to find tickets to NFL matchups that you want to see with prices that include fees. You know, they actually know upfront, which is a nice change of pace compared to a lot of other places. You can browse games, see panoramic views from your seat before you buy and you can get tickets to just, you know, a couple of taps. That's it. You got zone deals and lets you choose a section and game time

will choose the seats to help save even more money, right? Whether it's a rivalry game, a matchup of a player, you just have to see in person, right? That's kind of the point of sports is seeing it in person or an underdog that's ready to make some noise. Game time makes getting to the game simple. Think about the game on the schedule that you absolutely don't want to miss, right? Think about that and think, okay, maybe I can go get those tickets. We should right through game time because there are certain games that watching on TV is just not enough. You just like TV is cool and it's great, but like you got to be there a rivalry game. Everything's on the line of pack stadium, you got the atmosphere, you got the fans, you got the comeback, you got something that you can always talk about as an experience that you had years and years down the road. Game time makes it easy to find those tickets. So get your friends together, get your tickets and tell them it's game time. That's far as it went for me with all these things. So I won't be that guy. I won't be Uncle Rico. Back in 82, I'll throw a pig skin a quarter mile. Not going to be that guy. But you go into this game last week, man, and we were worried about 0 and 3 and look rightfully so you're playing the defending champs. You think Sam, darn old's going to be back and there's a lot of guys out. The Jadon Daniels sadness was lingering and that shows that's why they play the game, right? As her med words always said, lots of other coaches have said, commanders are one and two. You have a chance

to be two and two and you beat the Colts. When you look at what happened and that win at home, the home opener after starting off 0 and 2 for this team, what I see is the potential for serious momentum, a confidence builder, the mental side, which I think gets overlooked a lot in sports. Like people forget real humans doing real things. There's a mental side that either is a strength or a weakness for certain players. But I think this is an opportunity for this commander's team to put all of that negativity that might have been there behind them. Jadon's looking a lot healthy in their week. Expect he got some other guys that are coming back and you beat the defending Super Bowl champs that have a chance to travel to London, have that opportunity. Maybe even clear your head a little bit, go and get some kebabs if you want to do that and then play the Colts on Sunday morning. This is the type of situation where I think the commanders can really ride this momentum. You obviously have to win the game Anthony, but it does feel like it has the potential to be a turning point for them. Yeah, I definitely think it is. It's something that you you can look back on. But like I said before, this team understands that it's a week-to-week battle,

right? It's a week-to-week game of how you show up. David mentioned just how close you were to having this be a completely different start to the season. And you imagine it'd be a totally different vibe from the media and from everybody else. Three and O, is this the commander's best team? Is this a surprise? What's going on? Like it'd be a whole different narrative. And like before I said, they've been to the top. You've been to the pinnacle and then now you've been in hell. You've been down at the bottom. You've had your quarterback hurt. All this stuff is going on. Now this is that this is that moment where y'all focus as they squad and they know each week is what they got to go out there battle. Having a good game against the Colts, full team, full team game, full team win. I think it's huge is to be able to build the momentum. And as I look at the stats, it's yeah, you when we it's this easy to look at the scores and be like, man, they got they got work. They got what? But when you look at when you look at the table, when you look at some stuff, you see things that are fixable. Last year it was getting to the point where it was just like the Jimmy's their Jimmy's are better than our Joves, right? And we just don't have the right

people out there. We don't have the physical presence. The athleticism on the field. Now you got some of the pieces. Now you got some of the pieces and the biggest thing is that you have the coaching staff that's they're making changes. They're saying, hey, this is not the standard of playing on this field. And we're going to make some different changes and do some different things so that we can get a better performance. And it happened last week. So when you find ways to beat, you know, defending Super Bowl champs, that's big, right? It's not a fluke. That's not on that's not on accident. That's why we don't play the games based on media reports and and pregame, you know, spreads and things of that nature. You know, you close you go up there, you close that gate, you put the lock on the door and then one team comes out with a W or not. That's what happens. That's how it goes. And this week is going to happen over there in Tottenham, Hot Spur. And then when we come back, we're going to have the jets of the Giants come over here, the jets little brother. They don't come in town. We go and we go and we'll get the wolf on them at home. But we can only focus on one thing at a time. And so I kind of I just kind of love the mentality of this team. Even

in the previous weeks where, you know, Melissa's reported that everybody seems so calm. Everybody is focused on what they can do. They're only focused on everything that's happening inside the building because that's what matters the most. And that's all that matters. What's happening inside between those those guys on that field and in those locker rooms and how they're going to communicate and build plans the way to beat these teams week in a week out. Are you concerned at all about, and I know the colds aren't a full strength at wide receiver, but you know, that this secondary is going to be a thing all year for this commander's team, man. Like Treyimos, not healthy. Mikey Sanrestil, not doing his job. Like this defense is look better in a lot of different ways. But I still every single week, that is always going to be a weakness. The teams are definitely going to target with this team, which, you know, in a lot of ways, man, commanders are just going to have to make up for it in different ways. This is certainly a better team. It's a more talented team defensively, other where they were last year, even with some of the guys that are out missing Leoschenall for the season sucks. But you know, it is what it is at

this point. And that's they have some depth that linebacker, which helps. But that secondary, even with the veterans they have and Amique Robertson played well last week. And I get that they've got some guys and the veteran side of things that will help. But I'm really concerned about this secondary because you got to go the entire season knowing that every team is going to target that as much as they possibly can. I'm not concerned because it's like, let me, let me, I'm not concerned. The reason is that's that's just who's lined up, right? I mean, if you want to get real technical, you got until the 1st of November to make a trade. Cowboys made a trade. They brought in Julie Gordon. Okay. So you still have time to make an addition if you feel that's the need. I'm not much tripping on it because I think that you have some coaches that are understanding like, hey, sometimes, you know, you got to play with the toys that you're giving. Okay. Like, I'm bored with this one. You better use your imagination and find a different way to attack it. And I think that's what they're doing. They're finding other ways to get things done. And for me, this defense

starts with everything up front, right? I think the linebackers core was the one that gave us the most issues last year and you've gotten that fixed with that leticism right now, right? With sunny styles, smarts and and and intelligence to have the play get audible until, you know, came to to drop up underneath this and steal this ball like, that's growth at the position. That's big. And if they can handle the match up up front, they can win with four, then you can mask the things that go on in the second area. The biggest thing I want for them is like, yeah, be try to be advantageous if you get, you know, if you're near the ball, but tackle. I think that's it. Don't don't let don't let a bad play become a bigger play or a worse play, right? If they catch the ball in front, you we just run up and tackle and then we're going to make them play another ball, another set of ball, a football, right? So that's that's what I see with the secondary. Is it is it lesser talent? Is it there's some question marks? Are you sure? Sure. But it ain't going to do me

no good to sit here and come on here next Friday and say, man, well, the giant's going to do the secondary. They're going to throw the damn ball at them, right? That's what they're going to do. When it's the 49ers, they're going to throw the rock, right? So as as a competitor, you step up, right? You find a way to slow that down or you get your big homies up front to go get to the quarter back. So you don't got to cover no passes. And I think that's the way they're going to get it done. Blitzes pressure up front with Ken Long crew. Let's see chase on Armstrong all them doing a little jig on Daniel Jones, the Titanham hot spur. Well, listen, with with a defensive line that's definitely improved, that's also going to help from stopping the run perspective to a Jonathan Taylor. I mean, we know we know what he's capable of. We know he's one of the best backs in the NFL. And that's going to be something that gives the commanders a level of an advantage. Look, Jonathan Taylor could still go for a hundred yards in this game. But you definitely have the guys that can make the run game a lot more difficult for the Colts to which, you know, I think in some ways is going to be a that's going to be a big difference maker for them. Yeah. Yeah. You know,

I when I looked at the tape, as I see it even, even teams, right, even where you're like, okay, they're good at this. And but they're lacking here. And they're both of these teams defenses are prone to give up some points and some yards. The Colts defense has given up 500 yards to opposing offenses and back to back weeks. Kent Sterling, he covers the Colts up there. And Indy, he reported that to me. And essentially, that's like historically bad. That's not a good thing. So as the commanders come in, you got to feel like, all right, cool. They other teams have had success. And maybe we're going to be able to jump on that train and put some points on the board. But then that can help you, DeFiz. That can help you help your second there. I think this is more of a full team type of performance where you need everybody to come together and, and, you know, put their best performance out there. But the one area that can separate things, Nick, I think it's the special teams. You know, I'm always, you know, picking on special teams. But I think in two ways, first off,

punt coverage. Okay. They have a little shifty punt return, Anthony Gold number six. He takes some risk catching the ball. He's not afraid of that one gunner running down there. Things he can catch it and then quickly get out of his way. But he turned one and returned into from a broken tackle into about 10 to 15 yards. Right. So that's stealing the first down on special teams is big for field position. And we have one of the best in the game with Tressway. So between Tressway and Tyler Owens, they can cover down on kicks, push that, DeFiz, push that offense back for the Colton, make them drive the field, make them go long ways. I think you'll get some advantageous plays from a Daniel Jones. You'll get some interception. You can find a way to maybe punch the ball out. So that's big. And then the last one is on kick return. I think there's some money on the table for kick return. You know, maybe it's an Austin, neckler. Maybe it's Luke McCah, whoever it is, there's some money on the table for against these Colts on this kick return. They got to be able to do some with it. All right. What happened Sunday? We'll look at that next down commander squad.

We would say it's at home technically they're listed as the home team, but it ain't home when you're in London. I think we know. Look, I know we're going to get more international games. I know this is going to continue and it's smart for the NFL to not just expand the league, but actually expand the sport because it's their responsibility to make it more of an international game because it's American football and you know, but it does. It adds a layer of there's extra factors that are put into these games, right? The travel, the the time zone, the getting out of your routine. Be playing it up. What's really 930 in the morning in your head depending on how much you've adjusted that's there and all these things. The amount of toilet paper teams need to bring to travel with. I've seen the list of this. There is so much. It needs to be brought to help these teams travel,

but this is always going to be a part of the game in the NFL. The one thing I've always learned is that it gets a little sloppy early in these international games, right? Offense is it feels like they take a little bit of time to adjust almost has the feel of like, you know, week one or a Thursday night game Thursday night's kind of similar, right? There's always one offense that struggles. We saw with the Lions. We saw with the Falcons were early on. It's bad and then it gets better. Same thing for the Browns. It's like every week you get that on Thursday night. This actually feels like a little bit of a lower scoring game to me. The total is 47 and a half for anybody that wants to dabble a little bit. I think this is going to be one of those grinded out games at least early on where both offenses are adjusting, especially no Jaden Daniels that's there, commanders, defense, getting after somebody like Daniel Jones. But you have these extra layers. And I do think that that travel is some level of a factor. How much do you factor in just this extra all the extra I was just called things like all the extra things that you've got to throw around going to London or any of these other countries playing a football game. You know, I can honestly say

I haven't been to London and I haven't played internationally like that. But I could see that this trip to London being really like a moment that brings the team together that much more, right? Like you're you're only over there with you and your teammates and your focus on one thing. And you know, you kind of get to get the bond a bit more, right? They can go back and reflect on just the first couple of weeks of the year and just, you know, to see what's ahead of them. Understand it. Hey, man, look, we got three weeks till the buy. You know, let's let's see, we can go through you know right here, right? There's probably some arrangements and agreements that are being made. And then the time that Washington got there so early, you know, and why, right, when you're getting back and playing ball, I don't think that the time is really going to bother. If anything, it feels like a training camp practice, right? Because it's a little bit earlier in the day and then for the Colts, it's just a 830 game for them, right? But for me, I want to see

the offense try to take advantage of some of that, you know, potential lag. And I know that the Colts did their trip to Berlin with the same type of timeline where they left on the 30-day late to get over there and then kind of recalibrate probably to a walk through on Saturday. And then play on Sunday. So I would try to use some, you mentioned like the change and David mentioned the change in the defensive calls, you know, I would try to attack some of those things early, right? See if I can take some of the wind out of their sales faster, but just by, you know, going up top early, right? Trying to test and see where the weak points are on this defense because I think David Blau has grown as a play caller just from these past three weeks. And that would lead me to believe that he still got a little bit more in the tank, essentially with how smart he is from like not calling a play that would be so easy to have called me. I mean, let me get things going with this read option. He's like, no, no, no, let me hold on to it until I need it in the utmost moment. So you're seeing the growth of this guy.

Is he going to have some early, hey, hey, makers and uppercuts that you tried to throw? I bet he does. But is it a trick play? Not necessarily, but I bet it's something that's a game plan. Something that he's seen on tape, but he could take advantage of. Do you think we see Deami Brown or Antonio Williams throwing any passes in this game? If we up by 21, then sure, if you're about three scores, then yes, you can let them throw a ball. But other than that, it shouldn't be like, let's do this to get things going again, right? Like, that's not what I want to do. It's not one of those like, let's get a little create a little energy. It needs to be something like, hey, we really, we really thumping them. Let's go ahead and have a little fun right here. And that's that that I would prefer the trick plays when you're up big, just to kind of just to kind of twist the knife a little bit. I'm okay with that. I'm in purpose, right? Although I will say that Antonio Williams throw against Dallas, man, he almost hit Terry. I mean, it was close. Like, it was it was a silent throw. The Deami Brown situation was a little bit like, okay, what are we doing? It had flashes of swing gate years ago,

which I'm zorn was not quite there, obviously, but it had like I had a little bit of a chill watching it. But Antonio Williams got a nice little arm, man. That was a decent throw. So if they go one more time for that with, you know, and if Terry's not out there and it's the fond digs or somebody, all right, like I could I could buy into that a little bit. Yeah, you can come back with that later on in the year. And then they probably have the ability to run it both ways. So just to just know that. But no, man, I think that the him getting away from the trick plays was good. Because you could you were able to say you're able to set the tone and they were able to play ahead of the sticks and kind of control the line of scrimmage. I think that's a big match up here too. So I don't know, man, I feel good about the match. I don't think it's a low scoring affair as you think it is. Okay. It may be slow early, but I think there's a point to where Washington can can find a break and then kind of hit a couple of plays in there and they really try to separate themselves from his team. All right. So first half under are going to get on Fandall now and take

that because Anthony says so. So we will we will see 9 30 Eastern was when the game kicks off from London Colts and commanders will be back after that game as well to look at everything that happened.
