Not a bio turned a regular season Tuesday game into history last night, scoring 83 points in a win over the wizards for the second most in a game in league history. At a bio passed up, Kobe Bryant's 81 for number two all time. And David Rammel joins West Goldberg on Lockdown heat to recap a special night in Miami. For a game that I could say, David, I never thought I would see happen. Let's just start with the historic context because I'm taking these running game notes as I do for these games. And at some point, I just start taking running stats of just bam at a bio's night on his way to scoring 83 points, the second highest amount of points ever scored in an NBA game. So passing Kobe's 81 second behind only Wilk Chamberlain's 100 point game. So here's just, I'm going to just read you the list of stats and just records that

3:09bam breaks. And it's just, it's in running order of how this game went, went, kind of played out. So 31 points in the first quarter for bam. That's when you knew something was brewing here, maybe not this, but you knew this was going to be a special night. 31 points in the in the first quarter set a heat franchise record passing LeBron's highest scoring quarter, passing Dwayne Wade's highest scoring quarter and stands by the most by a center in NBA history. No center is ever scored 31 points in a quarter. Those 31 points in the first quarter tied Kobe for the fifth highest scoring quarter by any player since the 1996, 1997 season. He was the fifth player since 1997 to score 31 plus points in any quarter, joining Carlisth County Townskeven Love Clay Thompson and Carmelo Anthony. He had, in the first half, he had 43 points. It was the highest scoring first half in the play by play area or one of them. Joining Carlisth County Towns is 44, bam at 43 and then Kobe had 42.

4:10He became the eighth heat player of all time to score 50 points. He became, he scored 57 points and at that point had the highest scoring game by anybody in the league this season, surpassing Nicola Yokic, who had 56 points earlier this season. He surpassed Dwayne Wade's career high in heat history with 55 points. He then went and surpassed LeBron James's 61 points as the highest scoring game in heat franchise history. He got the record for the most free throws made in a game in heat history and then later in NBA, NBA history since players start, first started being tracked in 1970, only six starting centers scored 60 plus in a game, including bam tonight, joining Yokic and Bede, Carlisth County Towns, Shaquille O'Neal and David Robinson. He then became the 11th player in league history to have a 70 point game and the 16th game where it ever, it ever happened. He then became the fourth, he scored the fourth most points in an NBA game ever, then the

5:10third most. And then finally was the third player to ever score 80 and then surpassed Kobe's 81 when he scored 83. We are going to talk all about it, but you compare that to Wilts 100 and Kobe's 81. Here's how the stat lines play out. You've got BAM's 83 points on 20 of 43 shooting, Kobe got 81 points on 28 of 46 shooting and Wilts, our best record of that box score was 36 of 63. So Wilts did it on 63 shots, Kobe did it on 46 shots, BAM scored 83 points on 43 shots. So fewer shots than Kobe, he did get to the line 43 times, 43 throws times from BAM. Here's my take, David. This is the most improbable game in NBA history. There has never been a game like this. We are talking about BAM joining Wilts Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant, two guys who are in the record books multiple times for scoring achievements.

6:13BAM is not. BAM is a defensive anchor. He's an all NBA guy. This is the guy that heat fans are like, I wish he would score 24 points. He was like, all right, cool. How's 83? This is, I don't know where it ranks in terms of the greatest games I've ever seen, the greatest games in NBA history, anything like that. I could tell you right now, it is the most improbable game that has ever happened in the history of the NBA. David. But damn, was it a lot of fun though, I mean, what does it matter? Like we're looking at all the statistics and I know that they provide some context, but at some point we're watching this game, a game that's primarily based on putting the ball for the hoop and nobody with the exception of one player and NBA history has put the ball through the hoop more than BAM out of bios at tonight. He watched history, man, like that's phenomenal to see what he was able to accomplish on a random night against the Washington Wizards. That's what NBA basketball is all about because you do see the improbable because any night

7:13is a night where history can happen and that's what we witnessed tonight. What a fun day to watch. And there are people who are going to be picking at the way he got the 83 points or looking at the minutiae and breaking down the shooting percent, I don't give a damn about any of that. 83 points. Like we're never going to see that if I don't even remember Kobe's 81 point game, I didn't really remember Admiral Robinson's 70 point game, like these games rarely happen and yet, here he is, and in history, like you cannot erase BAM out of bios from the history. He has become part of NBA lore on a scale that some of the greatest players in the game that have played for this heat franchise, Shaquille O'Neal, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James. None of them have come close to what BAM out of bios was able to accomplish tonight. What an incredible performance is historic on every level and so much fun to watch. I'm glad you brought up the 70 number because here's the list of players who have scored 70 points in an NBA game in league history.

8:14Will Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, Luca Doncic, David Thompson, Elgin Baylor, Damian Lillard, Donna Van Mitchell, David Robinson, Devon Booker, and Joel Embed. And now BAM out of bio is added to that list. That, again, when I say it's the most improbable game we've ever seen in league history, that's not me criticizing it. I know you know that. Of course not. It's just my mind being blown here, but this is, BAM out of bio is an incredible player. You and I talk about how great and underrated and underappreciated BAM is all the time. It's kind of become the point of our show some days. This, there's no way around what this is. And he joins that list of players. It completely redefines who BAM out of bio is as a basketball player. BAM on March 9th is a different player in the historical context of the NBA now on March 10th and then tomorrow morning on March 11th. You can't ever look at BAM the same way.

9:14Every conversation we've ever had about BAM is erased and this is now, like any conversation you have BAM from now going forward, this is part of it. It doesn't mean that he's, you know, like impenetrable or whatever. It just means that this is part, this is like, this is paragraph one of the BAM out of bio story, right? When BAM retires, this is going in the first two sentences, what we just watched tonight, which is incredible for a guy who's a multiple time all-starb in the NBA finals twice, who's robbed of the different players of the year by Marcus Martin, all these things. This is an incredible thing. In terms of the way it happened, people want to, if they want to nitpick it about, hey, there was unethical how he got to it, what's the ethical way to score 80 points? It's such a weird argument. It's a dumb argument. Like to your point, just have fun with it. Who cares? Yeah, it's just, like, every argument about an award just loses all kind of nuance.

10:17Like, were you talking about an MVP player or a coach and what their coach is able? Oh, well, he couldn't get a title like an Eric Spulster's case. He couldn't win without LeBron James in Twainway. It's like, well, no kidding. Like, who has won an NBA title as a head coach without at least two historically good players on the roster? And for BamBam to buy out to accomplish this, yeah, did he take a lot of free throws? You're damn right. And the reason why was because Washington couldn't stop him because he was that good. And maybe it's for the Diamond and the Washington some of these games and some of these possessions. It's absolutely an indictment on the Washington Wizards and nobody can take it away. But the same way that Jalen Rose has become a historic punchline for giving up 81 points to Kobe Bryant, well, guess what, a team wide shameful award to be given to the Washington Wizards because not a single, single player could stop BamBam to buy out tonight. Like, he was just catching the ball and unstoppable, getting to the line, being able to shoot from three, doing everything he could to score these points.

11:18And again, at some point, you just kind of have to shake your head and just enjoy and relish these moments because they happened so infrequently. And what we witnessed tonight was absolutely incredible. You can't take anything away from it. And I just defy anybody to try. You can say what you want to, but you know what, keep it to yourself. At least on one night, relish in what you've witnessed because this is history in the making and we were all a part of it. After the win, KCBR and Devon Brown recap unlocked on spurs. A spurs victory tonight, they take care of business against the Boston Celtics,

13:20and they do it in a fashion where they see Victor Wemba Nyama have a night of nights, continues his red hot streak. They saw Victor Wemba Nyama get popped in the face literally. They saw an ejection more on that in a minute. And as a result, it doesn't matter all that stuff. The spurs are 48 and 17 and just keep winning. 16 in their last 17, my friend. KC, we got a lot to break down and you didn't have to let them know your own vacation. Everybody loves the shirt. Let's get into it. This is what you'll be talking about. Well, I tell you, it was no vacation for Victor Wemba Nyama in the first quarter because midway through on a drive to the basket, he got popped by Sam Hauser reaching for the ball. Got a hit square in the face. Got hit square in the nose. Not once twice with the hand, with the elbow, kind of a two piece of sorts right there.

14:20We'll find out more if his nose was broken because from first impact, it sure looked like it did. It sure looked like it was. But either way, obviously, he would stay in the game and it was fantastic. Tonight, ultimately spurs, they find themselves down to after one quarter of play. And then things got really fun because Jalen Brown came into this game. If you might recall when they played way, way back in December. The Celtics, they shot four free throws in that game and Jalen Brown was critical. He was a little bit fired up coming into this. And how do I know that? Well, Jalen Brown got a little tangled up with step on castle. Maybe Steph got the benefit of the whistle. And JB lost his mind. Jalen Brown was ejected in the second quarter after just 15 minutes of play. And as a result, that is a big hurdle. You're getting out of the way because, yeah, you have Jason Tatum still there. Slow the ease in his way back. And the spurs were able to take advantage of it.

15:21Pull even at 58 at the break between the two squads. Victor had 15 and eight at that point. JT had 10, Derek White had 13. Spurs fans loved that third quarter. Why? Well, it was Victor going basically shot for a shot with Derek White. Of course, the former Spur. Everyone still knows and loves him. And San Antonio from a statistical standpoint. Derek got the better of Victor. He had 19 to Victor's 14. From what really counts. The spurs shot eight of 14 from three point range. And ultimately go up seven at the end of three quarters of play. Celtics get back within one made way through the fourth. But 12-0 run spearheaded by a couple of Wembee buckets. Puts them back up double digits. Fox castle. Do some damage as well to close the door. And ultimately close out an impressive victory tonight. Percent Antonio or 125-1-16 victory. Wembee's line reads something along the lines of 39-11.

16:22Eight of 15 from the field in 37 minutes. So another one of these games where he pushes 40 minutes. Second time that's happened. And I guess so. I'll close the distance game a week or so. Five sets, 29 and 125 and nine. Castle, 18, nine and six. They hit 20 of their 47 threes. Tatum finishes with 24 and 27 minutes. Derek White, 34. The Harper brothers, there were a lot of fun tonight. Dylan did not outscore his brother, older brother Ron. RJ, he had a career high 22 compared to Dylan's nine. But you know, the younger will take the dub. As San Antonio moves to 25 and 16 in their gym. Yeah, so very exciting game. First half started off really good. Both teams came out well. You know that you get into the second quarter. You know, Boston really started shooting well. So I was keeping an eye on making sure that the Spurs defense was going to be able to keep up with that. Because they were going shot for shot there. It's a little unfortunate. Like you mentioned, you know, Jalen Brown had a little bit on his mind.

17:25Seemed like coming into the game. So, you know, I feel like the NBA and, you know, as fans now, as media now, we got robbed of what that game could have been. It was still a good game. But I feel like, you know, Boston was going to really, you know, you know, finish up that second half. Get Jalen Brown and Tatum going. But like you mentioned, you know, Jalen, you know, Jalen had a lot on his mind. So he was out of there. Now, we moved to that second half. And the biggest thing for me, Casey, is this. You see Wimby go eight of 15 from the three. The Aaron Fox second on the team and shot attempts. We've talked about this before. The Spurs are going to go as far as those two take us. So it was good to see those two lead. The way, but I'll tell you what, on down the line, when you talk about Keldin, the cell, Harper, all these other guys, they all chipped in. We all know the Spurs are a deep team. And they showed that tonight. What did you think of the shot distribution tonight?

18:28Because it was another one of those games where we talked about that once it gets to deep in the postseason. You're going to see a lot of box. You're going to see a lot of Victor really take on the lion's share. Victor shot 11 of 20 from the field tonight. Fox was tremendous. 11 of 14, tremendous volume showing from the Aaron in this one. What did you think of the shot distribution? And collectively, how it all worked out, which for the most part was, yeah, pretty good. Well, I think the other Spurs understand, like it was, it was different. You know, you have Castle emerging, Harper's been playing well. Keldin's been great on the bench all year coming off the bench. But they understand where the shots are going to come from. Now, that's got to come from Mitch. All right, no Mitch loves the way these guys share the ball and things like that. But we all know that we have to play through Victor to be successful. And you have to be able to use what deer and fox brings to your basketball team.

19:28So that shouldn't be a problem with the other guys on the team. Of course, if you're open, you know, championing the sale, they're not shy at all. So, you know, if they continue to knock down their three, they're fine. I do have one concern, though, Casey. I love the 11 for 20, the eight of 15 from three. That means he took five shots inside that three point line. If there was one thing to be aware of, I want to, I don't know about that. But that was my next question. Yeah, so go ahead, so talk about that. Yeah, so, so that would be one concern. Yeah, if it's 15 threes, that's fine. But get the shots up to like 32. That way it's not just five. But like I said, he felt it. He was going in and I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I'm going to mention it right now. He's got a lot going on with other players coming after when things like that.

20:29But just keep an eye on this. When he hits a couple of threes like he does, he wants to get champagne. He's 11 because he does not like the fact that champagne has that record right now. The Kemenanski brothers go over the victory on Lockdown Lakers. The Lakers, they register their second straight, impressive performance over a very good team. They beat Nick's on Sunday who'd come in winning 16 of their last 21 and they beat Minnesota. On Tuesday, 1-20-106 is the final score. Luka Dodgerch, a triple double 31-11-11, Austin Reeves, a near triple double.

22:32He had 31 of his own with seven rebounds, 8 assists, only one turnover. For Austin, good play from the sporting lineup or sporting cast, I should say. But Andy, defense, once again. Defence, defense, and I want to make sure we talk about Deandre Aten. Deandre Aten was massive in the first half of this game when the Lakers, frankly, both teams could not score. This was a raggedy-ass game. It was horrible. It was a rock fight and it was not even a good, it was just disgusting basketball in the first half. Everybody was past everybody's bedtime. Yeah, it was a raggedy-ass first half for both teams in terms of scoring. The Lakers eventually figured out their offense. But during that first half, Deandre Aten was the only Laker who could consistently get anything going at all. And obviously, the Lakers floodgates opened and it's quite possible

23:34that they win this game with or without Aten's start to the game in that first half. But I do think psychologically, if nothing else, Aten's performance and allowing them to be tied at the half was huge for just letting them believe, just chip away, chip away, chip away, it's eventually going to come around. Yeah, excuse me. Again, this game started late. He was particularly big on the boards early in addition to the defensive activity and things like that. And yeah, I mean, look, as bad as the game looked at the beginning, Luca couldn't hit a shot. And Reeves couldn't hit a shot. And, you know, Rui couldn't hit a shot. And the Timberwolves couldn't hit a shot. Like, the Lakers missed, I think they're first 15-3 pointers. They did. They did not hit a three until Luca checked back into the game at the 6-21 mark. He hit a step back three, putting the game at a robust 33 to 33.

24:38But that was the first three that the Lakers hit at that point. Watching Iowa versus Wisconsin in like 1993 or something like that is terrible. They had gone a quarter and a half without hitting a three and it was not for a lack of trying. No, but Minnesota wasn't any better. And so, you know, or was, I guess, marginally better. They couldn't buy a bucket either. And, you know, as aesthetically unattractive as the game was, and it was, the Lakers carried the same effort and energy that they had in the game on Sunday. They carried that into the game on Tuesday. And that made a big difference because, you know, they were focused in what they were doing. They were, you know, I think Minnesota obviously missed a lot of shots early. So did the Lakers. But the Lakers were locked into what they were doing defensively.

25:38And they were careful with the ball. You pointed this out at halftime. The Lakers were very careful with the ball despite playing some terrible offense. Yeah, they only turn the ball over twice during the first half. And that is huge in a game where you are struggling so much to score. When you can't get the ball in the basket, it lowers your margin for error. Meaning you can't add to it. And the Lakers did a really good job not, not compounding their inability to score with execution problems. And like, throughout a lot of the game, I don't think the problem was necessarily bad execution. They just were not hitting shots. You know, and I think both teams were defending each other pretty well in the first half. Like, both were really active. The Lakers did a better job of maintaining what they were doing defensively in the second half than the Wolves did. But I honestly thought both teams were doing a good job holding each other largely in check.

26:40Both teams were doing a really good job holding each other's stars in check. Like, Ant-Ant had a miserable game or team points on two of 15 shooting. He had as many turnovers as he's had, as he had buckets in this game. And this has been Anthony Edwards's best, I was, I previewed for my ESPN LA weekly Lakers show, Lakers talk of the game today with John Krasinski from the athletic and the John Krasinski show podcast, covered the Wolves for years, know this team inside and out. And he said, this has been Anthony Edwards's best season period of his career. But also, I mean, you just look at the numbers, his best offensive season. And the Lakers absolutely swarmed him this entire game and just made it impossible for him to find any type of rhythm at all. And what was impressive about it is even as the Lakers and the third quarter,

27:41third quarter is really where the Lakers put some distance between themselves and Minnesota. Like, you know, that first half, neither team really was capable of making enough shots to be honest to, to get real daylight between, between themselves and the opposition. But in the, in the third quarter, the Lakers combined the same level of effort and the same level of, of intensity, attention to detail and all that stuff. And they actually started making some shots and the gap between them and the Wolves exploded because Minnesota, you know, was still stuck in that, in that first year. And we should actually make sure people know LeBron did not play in this game. He was out with, I don't know if it's listed technically as the left foot arthritis or they kind of called it all. It was the left foot. It was the hip contusion.

28:41Yeah, I mean, they've, there's been a few revolving injuries of late, but LeBron did not play in this game. JJ said, you know, hope, see him play Thursday against Chicago, but this is going to be a day-to-day situation. Maxi Kleba was not available because of the back issue that's been bothering him for the last, you know, off and on couple of weeks, but also Jackson Hayes could not play because of a back issue of his own, which seemed to be a pretty last minute unexpected thing. Like Jackson had not been on the injury report at all. And then all of a sudden was out. So again, it really speaks to the importance of the way Aiton played in this game. A, because he was the only true center that you have. And B, you're talking about a really big timber wolves team with Rudy Gobert, who has, you know, he can control the glass. He can make things difficult around the rim. And Aiton outplayed Gobert. And we actually talked about

29:42heading into this game that, you know, in previewing it both for the bonus show that we did heading into this game. And also the bigger show that Aiton's had success against the wolves this season. You know, earlier in the year, the two October games, he played pretty well, but also that we thought Aiton would be important in this game. Because again, of that size that Minnesota has, that physicality that they have, the Gobert factor. And again, Aiton was huge in the first half. Huge. He really was. And, you know, it's, we'll talk about Reeves and we'll get into, you know, Lucas Knight and all of that, you know, soon here. But like it is, you know, you can't win against good teams just on the strength of your stars. You're going to need other players to, to step up. So it doesn't have to be the same guys every time, you know, different role players

30:45can do different things and step up in different games and contribute in different ways. Jake Laravia couldn't buy a bucket in this game, but finished with several rebounds for assist to steals his third quarter. Yeah, great. Third quarter was this combination of really effective and astonishingly ugly. Like he's getting his, like he's like, he's being like killed by steel chairs and a wrestling match. Honestly, like I was worried. Like he kept getting these offensive rebounds or often rebounding his own misses or ending up on the ground. I'm like, I was worried about Jake's safety during the third quarter of this game. Like I mean, he was putting himself through the ringer, but he was, it's the best game he's played in a while. He again, in terms of, you know, everybody finding different ways to step up, Rui had a tough one in this game. He was in foul, like extreme foul trouble. But just about, and Rui actually had a big shot to close the first half, but broadly,

31:47this was not a great game for him. But to your point though, this was really a team effort and just defensively, it's the second game in a row where it did not feel like anybody was a weakling out there at all.
