We're always going to talk Niners as we do because Jesse Naylor covered the Niners. But we are also NFL fans and overnight, like late last night, early this morning, wherever you are, the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers hooked up on another trade. These teams have traded often in recent years. And you see that sometimes in the NFL. GMs that trust one another will oftentimes hook up. Joey Porter going to the Cowboys. The Steelers get a sixth round pick in the upcoming draft from Dallas. And then they get Dallas's second round pick in 2028. The talk was that Porter Jr. was going to demand an extension. If he to whatever team he was traded to,

the Steelers were hesitant to give him that $30 plus million extension. The Cowboys aren't either. They're going to at least wait until the end of the offseason or until the offseason to see where it goes. But I would imagine they're going to have talks in that direction and ultimately pay this guy. What do you think, Jesse? Big trade. Cowboys have a, I would call it a due or die kind of a game this weekend with the Houston Texans. They will lose face with their owner. They will lose face in state. And they will fall to what one in three if they lose this one. So it's a big game on Sunday. And the Cowboys are feeling the pressure. And they're very impulsive. And they make the leap for the corner. What do you think? Yeah, it's an interesting trade for sure. For multiple different reasons. The one, the Dallas Cowboys are one and two. I will say that their schedule eases up though here for the next few weeks. Up until really they play the 49ers. Like there's a good opportunity, I think, for them to be about six and three when they go into that that nine or game based off their schedule.

And I think that they're looking at this season is one where they want to make some moves and make a splash. Also, it's like, you know when you're a kid and you have money that your mom gave you, like you can't help but to spend it. It's kind of what I feel like Dallas is doing here with Micah Parsons. They trade Micah Parsons. They get all these picks. Now like, well, now we gotta just make all these moves and make up for losing Micah Parsons. And it's been interesting because if you look at everything that has gone out from this team in the last two seasons to everything that has come in, you know, they've brought in Kenny Clark, George Pickens, Quinn and Williams, Joey Porter, a first round pick and a sixth. And they've gotten rid of Micah Parsons, Mazzie Smith and a bevy of picks as well. And now they've left themselves in this situation where they have a ton of unrestricted free agents at the end of this season. Now there is ways for them to kind of maneuver if they rework the CD Land Deal. They rework the Dak Prescott deal. They cut Kenny Clark. That's gonna give them about 70, 80 million to play with next year.

So they can probably get this done but they're certainly playing with fire by not locking these guys up now and not figuring it out. Now they're just seeing what happens this year, I guess. Very, very interesting approach, but Dallas will Dallas, they will make headlines. Does it result in wins? I don't know, time will tell. Do you believe the Niners were in that deal flow? I mean, there was, you know, I would say the Niners typically would not be, but they like their corners. But, you know, Rahim is a guy that brought Ramsey to LA, right? And he is a guy that really sees defense kind of from the back to the front. I thought that the Niners were mentioned as a team that had kicked tires on Porter, Jr. Would you have traded the Niners sixth and a 28 second for Porter? No, the Niners don't need secondary help like that. I think that, you know, they're actually in a situation where this may sound crazy, but D'Amener Lenore

who has been pretty highly rated, like, you know, 22nd best corner or so in the league, he might be right now at this moment, the worst starting corner they have, Renardo Grinna is really good. And Upton Stout has been really good. That's not a knock on D'Amener Lenore. It's just to say that all three of these guys have really stepped up and played good football. Their cornerback room is fine. It's their safety room that really has some questions. So no, I don't think it would have been smart to trade for Joey Porter, Jr. I think that he's exactly the player they need as far as like long arm, not necessarily him, but like that kind of player, long arm. Yeah, yeah. If they could make Ephesians price suck, you know, that player in the next year or so, they could definitely use a long arm dominant corner that could, you know, win one-on-one against Puca, against, you know, Devonte and all the top one, you know, big receivers they face. But I, you know, as much as I would love to have seen it and I would love to have seen the 49ers make that kind of a move, it's not the draft capital.

I think the draft capital is pretty fair to be honest. He was a second, now he's going for a second, a sixth, he's proven that he can play in the league, a lot of second-round picks, it's a dice roll. So I think the price tag's okay, it's the contract price. I don't think his contract price really folds well into the Niners plan salary-wise. I don't know that they have, I don't know that they have a spot for a back, you know, a back seven player that they want to pay, you know, north of 28, 29, 30 million, especially he had turned down 27 million in a long-term deal from Pittsburgh. So, financially, I don't know if it works. Sorry, we'll move off of Porter Jr., because it is a cowboy story. And on to the Niners, three games in, Niners are 3 and 0. The offense is cooking. A lot of good things to point to. Brock looks like an MVP candidate. He's literally taking it to the next level.

And yet there's cracks in the armor. You know, CMC's getting beaten up. Kyle's still leaning too heavily on him. The past, the past defense, or the rush defense, you know, they're not really stopping the run. You can run it on him at will. They're having a hard time getting off the field. But Rahim is found a way to scheme up 40 pressures in three games. And it's unbelievable the way he's doing it, Jesse. I mean, the last week they did it with a four, a group up front that was basically Khalid Kareem, who they just signed, starting outside, Obo Ocaronco opposite him, who they signed just right before that, Keon White and Oso Digi-Zooa inside. That was their primary four on rush downs. And they still found a way to generate pressure and eliminate all of Arizona's explosives. Give me your thought on the Niners in the first three weeks.

Yeah, I think the Niners have looked amazing. I maybe you spoke out of turn. I feel like they've done a good job with CMC. You don't think so. I don't think they're running CMC in the ground at all. I think they've done a really good job with him as far as managing his carries overall. You know, it's a snap count. The snap count last week. Okay, that's fair. 45 snaps for CMC eight for Keon Black. And all I would say is, I don't hate it, but I mean, I would rather it be 35 and 18. I mean, I really would love to see Keon Black who's a fresh body, get a little bit more run, especially when I saw CMC in the post game. He's got a bloody lip, he can't talk. He's taking a blow to the larynx. It's like the week before he had a big ol gouge out of his shoulder. You know, I mean, to me, I would just recognize that he's like player coming off a 450 touch season playoffs included.

And I just would've used the load. So she says you don't know how much you're going to need him in key moments down the stretch. I'd like to see Black get into a rhythm. And I don't think I think they haven't gotten Black into a rhythm. And I think it's important that they share the load a little bit, not 50, 50 or anything, but it's got to be a little bit more reasonable than 45 eight. Yeah, I think that's fair. I just, for me, it's more about the car crashes. You know, how many car crashes is he taking? And I guess, you know, as a past blocker, you're certainly taking some. I just look at the run totals and I'm surprised at how little carries CMC has had. Almost surprised at how little carries the 49ers have had. I mean, I know you saw that stat. It was retweeted out by you, I believe, where it's like they have the least amount of offensive plays right in this year. And that's simply because they are winning through explosive plays, which not a bad place to be by any means, you know, it certainly can,

can mess with time of possession. And it's a little bit opposite of what we are used to with the 49ers where they try to win through the ground game. You know, Kyle Shanahan once said like, oh, you to 30, 30 runs. And I pretty much know that we've won the game. Well, you're not doing even close to that, but it doesn't matter. You're still winning these games because now you're explosive as an offense. So I think it's interesting kind of what the 49ers have started out as this year compared to what we've seen in the past. But ultimately the recipe is working. Kaelin Black, you know, he's been fine. You know, we don't know a lot about him yet is he really a special is what we maybe made him out to be. I don't know, times in a tell, but I think he's good enough to get some carries for sure. But if you're only running the ball 20 times a game and Kaelin Black's getting five to seven of those, like, I don't know, I'm not really getting complained that much about the CMC portion of it. But yeah, the 49ers man, they look damn near unbeatable right now.

And it's only three games in. I get it. They played Arizona. They played the dolphins. But when you put up as many points the 49ers do and as quickly as they do, that's a really, really hard thing to keep pace with. And if you don't have your A game on offense, weekend and week out, good luck, man, because the 49ers don't seem to be getting off of this heater that they're on anytime soon. Guys like in the chat, Larry's always down on CMC. What? I've never seen anything negative up to CMC ever. I'm unbelievable. Hey, Johnny Dell put this out the other day. I thought this was interesting. You count to your point that you just made. The Niners are more of a past team. Look at these numbers run past splits by year. 2019 basically 50 50 same in 20 21 same in 2022 same in 2023. I mean, a little bit different variable. I mean, it's not going to be exactly 50 50. But you get the picture here. It's basically 50 50 19 21 22 23 last year,

54% past 45.6% run this year, 57% past 42% 42.9% run. And his point is the team is becoming more of a Brock driven team. What do you think of what do you make of these numbers? Do you think that this is a league wide trend that the leagues becoming more of a passing entity? Or do you think this this about face in the last two years is really more of a reflection of Brock Purti kind of evolving or maybe earning the trust to Shanahan? Yeah, I mean, I think that I think it's a little bit of both. I certainly Brock Purti evolving and getting the trust to Shanahan. That that's clear. I think it'll even out a little bit, you know, maybe not quite 50 50. But I could see like a 50 54 46 type situation. I think a lot of it is is game plans and and how these teams are. And I think, you know, it's interesting. It's almost like maybe Kyle Shanahan knows that he can't lay off the CMC drug.

And so he's like the only way to lay off of it is if I just pass it to them. Then I don't have to worry about running them into the ground. He'll still play all the snaps, but he's not taking the car crashes. And then we'll save him for the end of the year when we can start running the football a lot. Maybe there's some of that in there, but I think that a lot of it is is game plan. And Kyle Shanahan is coach and is but off right now. And and one of the biggest it's interesting because one of the biggest criticisms of Kyle Shanahan is like, well, listen, if this teams down, the drop back passing game isn't that great. And that's the one thing about Shanahan is like, well, I'll show you, you know, the drop back passing game looks pretty damn good right now. I'd say if the four to that is are down, I have a lot of confidence that they can come from behind and win that game through the air. So a little bit different approaches here with the four to that. And I don't really care what what the splits are as long as they keep winning. That's all that really matters. Yeah. No, absolutely. You win this week anyway, you have to and you worry about the numbers and all that down the road.

This is just more of a reflection. You know, one of the things that I think's kind of interesting is that when Purdy came back last year from the turf toe, I don't know how you felt about it, but I kind of felt like, well, you know what, it's just a temporary, you know, he's, you know, it's going to he's going to play a couple games, going to feel the pain. It's going to go back to being, you know, he doesn't move all that well. It's just going to be this recurring thing because I've heard turf toe is kind of like that. But it seems like they gave it more than enough time to rest or Brock just refused to talk about it. But the results of the results and in 10 games since he came back from turf toe, he leads the NFL and EPA per dropback leads the NFL and yards per dropback. He leads the NFL and sac rate percentage leads the NFL in yards per scramble. He leads the NFL in completion percentage leads the NFL in off target rate. And he's got 29 total touchdowns over, you know, since coming back last year from the turf toe.

What do you make of Purdy taking it to the next level? And I guess the other part of that is, I was talking to Greg Kosel yesterday. He made the point that 57% of the Niners snaps have come from under center in the first three games. And how and how that's a departure from what we've seen that Brock was under center 26 times against Arizona last week. You know, maybe it's to improve the play action game. Maybe it's to improve his rhythm. I think he looks like he gains rhythm on his on his dropbacks. But what do you make of Purdy's play since the turf toe? Yeah. I mean, I think you talk about the under center thing. It seems to be like a league wide trend right now. Everybody's kind of going under center more often than I. You're seeing Lamar Jackson under center quite a bit over there with Declan Doyle is his offensive coordinator. So the under center game and running backs are important again, interesting how quickly that change a couple short years ago.

It was like, you don't pay running backs there. Diamond does and now it's like, well, if you have a good one, you keep them and you pay them. So the game is forever evolving. You know, it used to be for a long time. We had two high safeties. Then it went to one high safety. And now it's back to two high safeties. So we're always kind of on this rotation. But as far as Brock Purdy goes, and he's been playing so damn good. And last year, you know, when you look at his splits and who they played, it was like, all right, truth be told, you kind of beat up on some really bad defenses. When you played good defenses, you didn't play that well. But this year, man, I just, I feel so different about Brock Purdy. And it all comes down to the turnovers and turnover worthy plays, frankly. You know, a lot of people look at it almost picks and should have been picks or fumbles that were recovered by your team and act like that's not that big of a deal. But that tells me, you know, how risky you are with the football. There have been times throughout the course of, you know, the last few years,

even when Brock wasn't throwing picks, he was throwing a lot of almost picks. And it's like, eventually those things catch up with you. And we saw that a little bit last year, you know, he, he had double digit interceptions despite only playing nine games or whatever it was. The law of averages end up working against you sometimes when you put the ball in harm's way that often. Brock's not doing that this year. And it started in training camp, you know, we got all the reports. You were there. He wasn't turning the ball over in training camp. I was like, man, this could be something. If this is who he is going forward and he's found a way to protect the football, this could be a different player. That's what we're seeing thus far. So I want to see the trend continue. Obviously they've got some tougher games coming up. But Brock is absolutely on a bender right now. And I hope he keeps it going. Yeah, no, it's fun to watch. I mean, to me, you know, the, the word is quickness. He's really quick. Yeah. So he's making this offensive line even look better than it is, I think. Just because he's not getting sacked.

I mean, he's avoiding sacks. The offensive line's doing a great job on first and second down. You know, brought CMC's averaging like, I think he, in the last game, the average two six before contact. And that's pretty good. That's, that's a good two six before contact is a good number. And they're staying out of third and long. And Brock, pretty is, is, you know, when he is getting to third down, he's converting. You know, I was talking to Greg Cosell and he had this yesterday. And he had this, this, in his opinion, he watches a lot of film, obviously, for NFL films. And he said that in his opinion, that pretty and Joe Burrow, he sing, he sing, sing, sing, sing them out. He said, those two guys are the best in the NFL at post snap operators. You know, guy who can, you know, he said the trend right now in the NFL is to try to fool everybody at the snap. You know, you give him one look and you're going to rotate into something else. Teams are really good at it. Heck, the Niners have been doing it with players that weren't even around.

They've, you know, they've had all kinds of substitutions. And yet they're playing, you know, all kinds of games up front and moving guys around and giving quarterbacks different looks. But he's like, Burrow and Purdy really have this innate ability to see naturally in milliseconds as they're dropping back, you know, the defense is shift. And then what the shift is and what their reads are and what their progressions are based on that shift. And he was just saying that, you know, Greg was just marveling at the precision. He's like, Purdy's got this thing down where he's not just, as you said, he's, he's not putting the ball in harm's way. He's much more precise with his ball placement. But he also was evaluating where to go with the football. You know, in the midst of his drop and it's, it's, it kind of shows high level preparation. It shows, you know, he's a smart football player, but it goes beyond that. I mean, you have to have just kind of a feel for, for, you know, where the movement is

and what that means to your progressions. You have to have done all the mental reps on if I get this, then it's that, if I get that, then it's this. And he's got that all organized in his head right now. Yeah. Well, I mean, listen, there's always defensive rules. And this is where Kyle Shanahan's been really good, you know, people forget that Kyle Shanahan started as a defensive guy and then came over to the offense. And what that does, it allows him to understand what rules are for the defenses and then forces them into situations where they have to break them or just manipulates them and shows them things that they think they want to see so that he can go somewhere else. And it's all window dressing. And I think that Brock Pertie starting to figure that out a lot right now too, you know, working with Kyle Shanahan, playing the position for, you know, what, 50 plus games now, like, you start to learn these things and your mental processing speeds up and you start to know, all right, you know, pre snap, I'm looking at this safety or I'm looking at this safety or this linebacker and that's going to tell me what happens.

So post snap, I know exactly where I'm going. I'm either going here, here, based off of what this guy does. And you're starting to see that play out for Brock Pertie where the reading of the field is becoming very easy. He's going to the right places. I mean, I can think of and every quarterback has bad throws, right? Like it doesn't matter how great you are. I can think of maybe five bad throws on the whole season from Brock Pertie. That's so that's such a little amount for three full games played. Like that's nothing. He's just, he's been accurate. He's been on time. He's delivered the ball with, he's got it seems to have more zip to me this year than he did even last year. Every, everything right now is flowing for Brock Pertie. He's in a flow state and, you know, can that last all season? Maybe, maybe not, but can they continue to win and can Brock Pertie still elevate his game? Yeah, I think so. Like he's he's playing really good football right now.

No question about it. All right, let's put ourselves in the corner real quick. We'll do our prize picks lineup right here. I don't know how you feel about the numbers this weekend or the matchup this weekend. But we will, let's make sure we move that graphic around. There we go. Hold on. Where is it? There it is. Okay, so we got that. And so new users, prize picks. Thank you to prize picks. Use code HMA. New users play five. If you win, you get 150 in bonus lineups. And we're going to go with a liner and a Bronco for Sunday. Jesse, bro, what are you? This is why you this way you got away. All right, so you're getting Brock Pertie at 16 and a half rushing yards. I took him earlier in the week at 20 and a half rushing yards and took four. I saw that. I saw that. So get so take take the more on 16 and a half. What are we doing? Come on, prize picks. Trying to take money from me. Yeah, seriously. And they do fluctuate. I mean, this fluctuation. And his his rushing stat has gone consistently up.

I know. What do you think for you like CMC? I kind of think this is I saw CMC just, you know, wrecked with the net class week as far as the the larynx. And I thought, you know, this is a K-lon black. I like K-lon black to get 24 rush yards. Well, I'll say this Denver is literally the worst rush defense in the NFL by EPA. So they should be able to run the ball effectively. And this is so you know, it's interesting. You were asking about, you know, Pertie and throwing the ball as much as a game plan. What is it? This is the game where you should probably run the hell out of the ball because Denver cannot stop the run. They're awful against the run. And we'll put Denver in there. Is there a Denver angle you like on this thing? There's bonix. Bonix is started slow, finish fast. They're also not like this running it. Well, I mean, they're not running it. Yeah. Well, they're running like five different schemes. And you see outside zone, you see inside zone, you see duo. They're running power. It's like Davis Web hasn't. It's like he's still kind of formulating what he wants their offense to be.

And I'm not sure that they know what they want to be. They haven't looked very good. They didn't look good last week against the Rams. Yeah, well, again, I took bonix at less than 15 and a half rushing yards. They've now got them up to 17 and a half. So I'm still sick with the less there. Yeah, where's that? That's there we go to the left. Yeah. Yeah, let's go last there. All right. The other one that I'm starting to find some success. Cent Larry is this longest completion of the day. So bonix, 34 and a half. 49ers aren't giving up big extolose at the point. That's a great point. That is a great point. Yes, that is a great one. Let's do that. Let's make, let's we'll go with those four and put five on it. All right, here we go. We'll submit our lineup. Bingo, bingo. It takes a second. And then it will come back and we'll show you what our lineup is. And this is what it is. All right, we got a four-pick power play. Five wins is 48, 75. I like this one. I like this one. We got pretty with, has to have at least 17 rush yards.

Kaelan Black's got to have 24 rush yards. Bonix has got to have 17 rush yards or less. And Bonix has got to have the longest completion. It has to be 34 yards. If it's 35 yards, that's a loser. So four-pick power play, five paces, 48, 75. Thank you to prize picks for being a proud sponsor of the show. Somebody said RJ Harvey, 35 yards screen on the way. Let's talk a little bit about the Broncos, though, for a second. What do you see with the Broncos? What do you expect to see? They're kind of, they're a weird team because they lost John Franklin Myers to Tennessee. I thought that was kind of a key cog up front. They have Sir Tan, who's the number one corner. They got Bonito. They got DJ Jones on the nose. Zach Allen is one of the best defensive linemen that nobody ever talks about. There's some, there's five or a, Fonga just coming off a two-pick game, very instinctive. They've got about five or six really, really good defensive players.

But I also feel like their linebackers are not going to be able to cover. And I think Shanahan could pick on them. Yeah, I completely agree with that. And Denver's a really interesting team. They're two in one. They score most of their points in the fourth quarter. I think 46% or 47% of their points this year have been in the fourth quarter. They've scored one first half touchdown. They were similar last year as much lower, but it was like 34% of their points for fourth quarter points last year. They do this thing where they just hang around and hang around and hang around. And then they beat you in the end. And it's been a recipe for success. I just, I think that will go horribly against the 49ers. Because the 49ers have been scoring quickly and early in these games. And you continue to give them confidence. I don't think that they will stop rolling. So I think the 49ers have a chance to jump out on these guys and not look back. Denver can't run the ball effectively. They are the second worst run team in the NFL. The war for the Green Bay Packers who are historically low,

averaging like 48 rushing yards per game this season. The Broncos would be the worst in the NFL. And there's about a 40 yard gap there. The Packers are just really, really bad. And they've got a good offensive line. Very good offensive line. Bohnix is, they've got good weapons. They've got good receiving weapons. There's no literally no doubt about that. They've got decent running backs. They're just not running the ball effectively. I just think if you can't run the ball and you can't stop the run, that's a recipe for disaster against the 49ers. Because now the 49ers are going to have as many possessions as they want. They're going to go score a bunch of points potentially. Like it's just, it's hard to win that way. So in the fact also that they're not in Denver, gives me a lot of confidence here. I think sometimes they wear teams down and run them down because the mile high, the altitude is something they're used to and teams aren't. I think that's much harder to do when you're on the road. So that's kind of how I see it between these two teams.

Those are some of the weaknesses with the Broncos for sure. Yeah, I mean, you're right about the offensive line. I mean, it's a good offensive line that the Broncos have. Some people think it's the NFL's best offensive line. But, you know, and Dobbins is their back. Right, they got RJ Harvey. They have Jonah Coleman, Coleman's on the IR. But, you know, the receiving game, you know, Greg, who was rolling the film back, said there's not a lot of continuity to what they're doing offensively. He says there's not a lot of rhythm to their to their offense. He says there's not a lot of clean past plays. You know, it's a first year OC and Davis Web. Bonix is struggled this year against the blitz. 44.6% are 44.6% pass rating. You know, against the blitz. So, you know, it's interesting. Rahim has found a way to get to simulate pressure. I mean, the Niners got pressure on a play this week where they rushed three guys. Because they showed right before the snap that it was a five-man pressure and the line slid to the left.

And then basically, the guys on the left dropped into coverage. And they got home on the quarterback off the defensive or the guys on the defensive right slid into coverage. And the guys on the defensive left, a guy got to the quarterback despite rushing three. So, Rahim is mixing it up. You know, they're getting pressure. I mean, to me, this is one of the big surprises. This, you know, how well they've eliminated explosives. You know, they're rushing four. And they're rushing, you know, as I said, Ocaron Quo and Kreme, who were not even on the team at the beginning of camp. And then White, no diggyzua. You know, I mean, it's amazing. I think presets longest pass play was 19 yards all day last week. And 40 pressures and three games. What do you think? Do you, does Rahim, does he blitz, you know, the quarterback, whose numbers are not good against the blitz? Or do you just kind of simulate pressure

and keep doing what you're doing, which is kind of a little bit of everything right now? Yeah, I would say just keep doing what you're doing. Bo Nix reminds me of like him and Jalen Hertz are very similar to me. In the sense that like they just, they get flustered even when they shouldn't, when they have time. You know, do you remember the game a couple of years ago, that game plan that the 49ers had? I think it was two or three years ago against Philly, were they literally just didn't rush Jalen Hertz? At all, they just kind of stayed near the line of scrimmage and wouldn't let them run. He could have sat back there for 20 seconds at a time, no joke. And he just panicked and would throw the ball apparently for no reason, just because the thought of him not being able to be mobile if he wanted to be was there. That was enough to make him just lose his mind. Bo Nix is kind of like that where it's like, he just has these errors, these intermittent errors for no reason. There's just, you got plenty of time, you're going to roll out right,

you're going to throw 40 yards down the field across your body into double coverage for what reason? Why are you doing this? I just think that the 49ers can just keep their game plan. They're going to score some points that right now, their offense is their best defense without Nick Bose on the field in my opinion. You go put points up, that's going to put pressure on Bo Nix in this offense and he will make a mistake, like he will. They're not going to be able to run the ball effectively, most likely. And Bo Nix is going to have to win through the drop back passing game. And I just think that's a recipe for disasters. So I wouldn't do anything crazy. I wouldn't do anything special that you haven't already done. Simulate your pressures, keep your guys in their zones. They play way more zone than they do. Man, that's fine. That'll work. And you'll get your opportunities in this game. Yeah, I kind of agree. Even though the numbers say that he struggles against the blitz, I think I would try a whole array of simulated pressures and not blitz. One, to keep them off balance, but two, let's see this,

let's see this Denver team kind of prove that they can drive the football. I mean, they look kind of, they don't look like they've got a lot of offensive continuity. And let's see them, let's see improve it. Let's see them see, you know, let's see them prove that they can drive the football. It's not give them big play opportunities. But I'll tell you the one thing that was interesting to me, watching the Niners leave Seattle in the playoffs. It was just how awesome Seattle was at explosives. And how they'd become like the greatest explosives team. They created tons of offensive explosives, Kenneth Walker, and then Rashid Shaheed. And then on defense, heck with the Niners, they were playing, you know, light in the box, playing nickel, playing dime, and just daring the 49ers to run. And the Niners couldn't even run against their nickel or dime. And it just was game over. There was no, no downfield threats at all. You know, they just shut down everything. No explosives.

They gave you no explosives on offense. And then they created explosives on defense. And I walked out of that stadium, just you think. Man, are the Niners going to be able to, you know, to, you know, this is a new thrust, a new emphasis in the NFL is this like, explosives. You know, teams are not worried about efficiency that much. They're worried about big plays. They're not worried about, you know, being super consistent on defense. It's stopping big plays. Well, the 49ers, three weeks in are number three in most explosives generated on offense. They're number one in the league in least explosives given up on defense. They just gave up none and 80 defensive snaps to fight. I'm sure being pretty fatigued there in the fourth quarter. What do you make of that? I mean, that's kind of the game. I mean, if there's one thing I would say to Raheem and we're going to talk to him later today, I'm just so impressed by their ability to eliminate the explosives on defense without having

a full complement of rushers up front and with having a lot of young players on the back end. What do you make of that? Man, it's, it's interesting because, you know, it used to be like, win the turnover battle. That's how that's how teams look at it. Now it's almost like just win the explosive battle. If you do that, you're going to win. And it is a interesting way of looking at it, but it's kind of true, right? Like think about this. Like when road teams get an explosive play, how much that just takes the air out of the stadium? You know, you go, you watch your team go on a 20 play drive and eat eight minutes on the clock and they kick a field goal because they weren't able to punch it in. Then the other team comes back and gets a five play drive in a minute and a half and score seven. It's like, dude, are you kidding me? Like, well, what just happened here? Like it's so demoralizing. It's like the explosive plays are the new winning through the run game and death by a thousand cuts and just demoralizing teams.

So yeah, man, I think it's a good recipe. You know, the 49ers offense is putting up a lot of explosive plays. If the defense can limit them, that's winning right there. So it is a different way to look at football for sure. It's not how we've looked at it traditionally. No, no. Thanks to picking a pickle, thanks to our sponsors, thanks to sharp corners, sports cards and collectibles. We've got to mention them as well. 205 Cypress Avenue, call Anthony Catania, 8 315-215-264. Niners and Broncos go on Sunday. We're taking a look ahead. Who would you say has been, you know, if I say to you, the biggest surprise of the 49ers, first three games, there are obviously three and no. And there have been a number of surprises, right? I mean, there's several you could shop from. But what if I say biggest surprise in the first three weeks, what is it to you? Ooh, I would probably have to say, like I've been higher on the 49ers offense of line than most,

the last couple of years. But the level that they are playing right now is, it's like they were good and now they're great. And that's, it's almost like the Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purti, offensive line. The three of them have all elevated together and they're all elevating each other. I'm sure that that plays into it, but it's like they've all gone from good to great. And they've done it together. And the offensive line right now is just protecting at a very, very high rate. Brock Purti's helped obviously with the 0sacks. I do think, I do think sacks a lot of the time are a quarterback stat. So the fact that they have zero Brock Purti does deserve credit for that. But there are times big, big stretches in these games where Brock Purti is just able to sit back there and do his thing. And then there have also been times in the run game where CMC will have three, four carries in the second half. He did it against the Rams. It happened again this last week where he'll get 8, 10, 12 yards down the field.

And nobody has touched him yet. Like that's, you can't stop a running game when that, when that is happening. So I would say the offensive line playing at this high of a level, we didn't even know who the left guard was going to be until week one. We didn't know if they were going to rotate. We had debated three different guys starting. Should they go outside of the organization and bring somebody in. Those were the conversations we were having. And Connor Colby has been really, really good as well. And that, that plays into it. So this offensive line playing at this level is probably the biggest surprise for me this season. Yeah, I mean, I would definitely say it's the line of scrimmage. And just both sides, just piggybacking what you said. You know, the nine or offensive line, I saw it in Seattle as Shanahan didn't really believe in their ability to run in the middle of the field because they just didn't do it on fourth and one. And I was really surprised by how well Connor Colby has done in the run game. I know PFF doesn't give him a great run defense run a blocking grade.

But I think Connor Colby has been really, really good. I like how he doesn't lunge. He stays, you know, he stays balanced. If he's going to lose, he's going to lose slowly. He doesn't lunge and whiff and get the quarterback killed. We haven't seen a lot of free runners at the quarterback, especially inside. So I think Connor Colby, especially in the run game, I like what he's doing in the run game. It's very subtle. He's deadly on those combo duo blocks. And I just really love what I'm seeing at a Colby. And I think he's an all around player. I mean, I didn't think it was, we were going to see that. I thought he was going to be a problem spot, especially the way they kind of juggled things this summer. It looked like he was going to win the job. And then suddenly it was like, here's Rob Jones. No, no, it's Carver Willis. And I don't know if they were just trying to hold Connor Colby's feet to the fire, because his film in the preseason when I looked at the games looked really clean. So to me, he's the surprise on the offensive line.

And I'd have to go with Grace and Haltman on the defensive side. I mean, this guy is being, he's a complete player. And they're showing that they're showing they have total belief in him. They're at times I've seen him lined up outside because he moves that well. But really, Jesse, it's just the fact that this guy's playing 30 snaps per game. And for a rookie defensive tackle to play 30 snaps, asking in a lot. And it's like, it's not given, it's not like he's on scholarship. He's deserving and earned. He's earned these, these, these snaps. I mean, obviously they've got injuries and he's, it's part of out of necessity. But I think Grace and Haltman is really their best defensive tackle when you factor in everything. Yeah, run defense, past defense. I love his ability to stack and shed. I mean, I get at Oklahoma, he was an awesome pursuit player. And I thought he was great in the games. And he's still when they play games up front and you can scheme up some movement up front.

He's really deadly. But just his ability to take on strong offensive linemen, see through them, keep his eyes on the back, throw the offensive linemen away and, and, and make the tackle. This guy's doing it like a five, six year pro. And he's a rookie. So I'm, I'm, first of all, huge props to venables and the defensive coaching staff at Oklahoma. Because they got this kid ready to go. Yeah, they, they definitely do, man. It's, and it's come at the right time. My gosh, dude, you lost Collins, you lost West. Neither of them look good. You lost Thompson. It's like, if they, if they didn't have Haltman right now, they would be in a world of hurt, Larry, a world of hurt and seeing some of these guys step up the way they have has been so darn impressive. And it's interesting because there's a lot of question marks about the, the depth of this team, future depth and, and future stars. And, and I've certainly raised a lot of those questions. And I don't know who the future stars are still.

But outside of that, man, they've, they've certainly at the very least brought in some quality young starters that are building and could be future stars. And that's all you want to see. And Grayson, Haltman definitely falls in line with that. You know, Haltman's been good. Duggers been good. They've played some key roles at Conor Colby as we talked about. It's been very good. Like these first and second year players are stepping up and helping this team in a big way. And they need it. The 49ers need it. You know, they, they have some Hall of Fame caliber players all over this team. But they're older, a lot of them and, and some of them aren't in their prime anymore. And that's okay. They're still effective, but you need that young wave behind them. If you're truly going to make a run at a Super Bowl. And they're getting that right now. And they're getting it at key positions at key time. So it's exciting stuff, man. It really is. Let's hit quick. Some quick hitters Trent. John Lynch has just appeared on KMBR this morning. He says Trent Williams is going to practice today. He says Mike Evans is old school. He's going to give it a go on Sunday. But you know, practice this week.

We don't know. Lynch also commented on the signing of Dante Pettis. He said with Dante, just like when we drafted him, he's a talented football player. He also brings some value in that he's a part returner. I think a lot of people thought they were hard feelings when he left. There weren't hard feelings. Like Kyle said, he was coaching him hard, but not hard feelings. I think you see this in the NFL. Time happens. And when you throw them out there in a workout, he looks really good. We know what he can do. And it was right, the right player for us to sign. I didn't like this move at all because I don't want to see anybody standing in front of Jordan Watkins' ability to play. I mean, Watkins got 15 snaps. Caderral Hodg played 30 snaps. And to me, what is Caderral Hodg as a receiver? I want to see Jordan Watkins. I want to see that 4-3 speed. I want to see the impact more of the impact that he made last week. I don't want to see Dante, Pettis with his blue hair and his 4-7 speed or whatever it is.

I don't, you know, I don't think he's tough and I don't think he's fast and I don't get it. I'm not, I'm not loving the Pettis pickup at all. Yeah. I mean, it doesn't mean the great scheme of things. Yeah. Moving or shaking the franchise. I think that's it. I get it. Like I would, of course, I'd much rather have like Tyree Kill, right? Make it run at him or maybe even bring in OBJ, but he seems to be completely washed to be row with you. Best case scenario, Pettis just sits on the practice squad and has never called up it. As long as he's Watkins earned the chance last week. His 49ers life was on the line. I feel like last week and I feel like he came through, man, two catches, 60 yards. He was getting open. The catch before the end of the half was massive. They got three points out of it. Like he's doing what you want him to do. He had a good preseason outside of a couple of weird plays. Like Watkins should continue to get stamps and I imagine that he will.

I don't think that Pettis is really here other than to be a body on the practice squad. And then of course, if they have a plethora of injuries, he'll get called up at some point. But I think ideally is he doesn't get called up. But you're right. To a certain extent, it's like, well, can't you at least bring in somebody else to maybe develop and Pettis, you already know what he is. So is that really somebody you want on this roster? So I understand the frustration. Most people seem to be frustrated with the signing. I just look at it as like, he's a body on the practice squad. So be it. Yeah. He's great as long as he never sees the field. Before we get our fingers. Let's hit this coach, Yak, at this one. Who hangs up first in this trade? Niners get Khalil Mac in a 27th. Chargers get a 27th. Oh, you don't need to give that much. I listen, this is a trade that I floated out two weeks ago myself. And I think you can get Khalil Mac for a fifth round pick.

I really do. I think the chargers are going to be out of it here soon. A couple more weeks. I got some tough teams. Khalil Mac will be out there. He's in a want to play for a contender. They're going to look at him and do right by him. It's the final year of his deal. You can get Khalil Mac for a fifth round pick. Like this is probably his last year in the NFL. The team that picks him up is going to have to take on some money. It's not going to take that much. That's the 49ers should, if they trade for Khalil Mac, they better not give up a third round pick in any circumstance. There's no way. I would, if they can get him for a fifth round pick, wow. I mean, you make that. I think they can. I think they, and why couldn't they, right? Final year of his deal. Maybe the final year of his career, he's going to want to play for a winner. They're going to say, we want you to play for a winner. You're not going to get that here. It'd be a shame for you to, to, to not have that chance. And we don't want to pay you quite frankly. We don't have to pay you the rest of your guaranteed contract this year. Once you go over there, you'll, you'll play the other half over there and they'll pay you. I, I think you can easily get them for a fifth round pick. I really do. Last one before the Super's Matthew Judon, something or nothing.

Something ish. You know, we're not getting Patriot Matthew Judon. That's fine. You know, it's interesting because they need defensive ends right now. They need edge help. But in two or three weeks, they're going to have almost too many. And they're going to have to figure it out, which is a good problem to have, assuming people can say healthy. Bosa comes back. Obviously, you know, you get some other players back. Michael Williams would have you. Romello Hight will, will be more healthy at that point. So they're going to have a lot of edge players. Listen, if he can, can turn back the clocks to two years ago and be Falcons, Matthew Judon, I like it. Motivation, you know, he'll be properly motivated. And let's see what he can do. I don't have my hopes. His metrics weren't good the last couple of years, but we'll see. Rat underscore punk underscore stool underscore pitch at underscore Canary. Says, pig and a pickle, the best barbecue in all of Northern California. Thank you. Appreciate that.

They do. You got more out of his name than he did the super chat. I know. Cryptic 84 says depends on what Denver team we get on Sunday. If the O starts slow again and the Niners offense is really legit and still can average 32 points game, we're good, in my opinion. We see, we see if the Niners are pretenders or contenders with Denver and Seattle. Yeah, I think Seattle more than Denver. I think they're getting Denver at the right time. I kind of feel like this is the perfect time to play Denver. Rat punk stool pigeons canary comes back and says, don't understand how they kept brown over Huffanga money. For sure. Money, money, I think is he's younger. You don't have to pay him as soon. Dr. Rockman says, Jess, when people like TB 12 say Brock, pretty should be in tier one quarterback talk quarterback talk, probably like top six or one number top tier quarter. He's saying, okay, one second. Jess, when people like Tom Brady say Brock, pretty should be in tier one quarterback talks,

probably like top six. How do you weigh that against your own evaluations, tier two, just curious? Well, I think it depends on what you're looking at. Are you looking at this here? If you're looking at this year, so far Brock, pretty is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL. Okay, so that he's definitely tier one. I think I do like tiers, probably more than rankings, because I think that once you get past like the first six quarterbacks, there's like another six guys that you can really make an argument for. As like, okay, you know, this guy's here, that guy's there. So I do prefer tiers. I would say tier one is to me. You're looking at the elite of the elite. You know, your mahalms, your Allen, your Jackson, those are, that's my tier one. And then after that, you know, you're getting into the burrows and the staffards and, you know, however you want to go from there. So that's how I see it. A tier one's reserved for like the elite of the elite, the guys that are our top three in the

league year after year. And then after that, you can go however you want. So that's how I'd look at it. Yeah, I mean, it's, it's, first of all, this isn't evolving deal, right? And there's these games played every week and your, your opinions, at least my opinion, and it's always evolving. I think it should be a quarterback. He's QB six. But as far as top tier, I might have a two person top tier of Allen in my homes. But that's fair. That's good. But I think, Perties, you know, he's, he's moving on up as the Jefferson's once said. He's moving on up. Do you look, apartment in the sky? All right, famous is Jesse. Do a collab stream with Larry and Jake for Rams game. It'll break the internet. It probably would break the internet. Yeah. We got this one from Tony Dewey, Dewey's 8940, 100 jewels high five. Thank you. We have this one from Braden, Braden, dischamps, 8056. Do you guys think struggling, pier saw and walkins can be a great trio

for years to come? I don't. Great. That's strong. Great. That's a strong word. I mean, walkins just had his 49ers career on the line a week ago. Pier saw hasn't done anything, unfortunately. Stribbling still hasn't caught an NFL pass. Like, let's just, let's just see how it plays out. I think that if those three can be healthy and play together, I think that that can be a nice trio for years to come. Great. That's, that's a little strong. Little, little heavy handed for me. This is an organization that Jerry Rice and John Taylor. Let's save great. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Come on. Pier saw really pier saw's great. We throw some of these words around too much. Elite grace. Like, we want to give it to everybody for no reason. Like, can we just earn it? You know, can we? Yeah. Let's just be honest. So far, Stribbling is a strong rookie. Pier saw has been heard a lot and walkins also has been heard and hasn't gotten out there. Joseph Fernberg, Niners put pig and pig and Denver's pickle 2017, 49ers again MVP.

Purdy, Rat Punk, Stool Pigeon, Canary, says, his Jalen Herds still out there since they brought back Kettis. That's awesome. That is awesome. Yeah, see if he maybe really thought he was going to be so good, man. That's how he was. So he was supposed to be Dimo. Like, all the things that Dimo did was supposed to be him. He had a great preseason game. Blood Moons is cow shit. Scott Porter, uh, realistic big splash for us. Maybe Kaleal Mac. Maybe I like the Kaleal Mac. Just look at that roster over there and start poaching it because there's multiple guys that can help the 49ers on that team. So wouldn't mind Brian Thomas Jr. either. I like him. Joseph Fernberg, who is Brock Purdy of the UFC? I don't know. Ilya Toporia, maybe under under size. Under size, but knocking people out. I would say Ilya Toporia, yeah. Jesse, I got to run cone and boon or waiting. Have a great rest of your Thursday. Thanks to everybody. Jesse, I'll give you the final word before we pull the hatch. Hey, man. It's going to be a great game this weekend.

Appreciate everybody for tuning in. And I would say tomorrow, tune in around one o'clock Eastern. I've got Brandon Perna. You guys should know him from that. That's good sports. He's going to be on talking Denver Broncos and the 49ers. So looking forward to that. Good stuff, buddy. We'll see you next week. Thanks to everybody, Pete.
