Hello, friends. Welcome to Thursday. Good morning. Hello, son. Hello, Connor. Look at this guy ready to go. Ready to go. Snowing outside. Little tiny flakes. Little flakes of flurry fallen in the... On the compound here at TSN 690. High atop 1717, Rene Leveque East. Welcome to the quiz brought to you by Ashgrig War Shaman Desan. We do this weekdays on this show around this time. I've got the questions, put them together, sporadically throughout the day, generally, and put the finishing touches on every morning. And then I put them at the big brains of my panel today. You've heard from Connor McKenna, who's ready to go. Leading the charge of the TSN 690 morning show. Let me see. Carry the baton. I guess. I don't know. The Maestro? Yeah. Sure. All of those things. There's no property in Tuscany. I have the Maestro. And his pants are...

Oh, they're off. They're protecting the crease at all costs. Always. Let's bring in the voice of CF Montreal. You hear him daily on Melnick in the afternoon. From two to six on your home. For Montreal Canadians talking on a game day. It is John Still, who will be back behind the microphone today. And then getting ready, pitch side for CF Montreal. And Cincinnati as the MLS season for CF continues. Good morning, John. Good morning, fellas. I love the sign failed reference at 730. Oh, listen. There's one thing we do well on this show. It is sign failed in Simpson's references. I don't know how long the list is. But those are two items that are definitely on it. You know, I'm going to talk about the WNBA. It's going to be tough. A CBA? A CBA? Apparently they've got a deal in verbal agreement. Salaries are going up. Minimum salaries. Super max salaries are going up. Toronto named their team after those plastic garage things that... The door doctors? No. The tempo. The tempo, yes, right. Lots of strange choice.

Yeah. They're not even allowed in certain burrows in Montreal. That's a fact. I grew up in one village in La Ronde. Outlawed the tempo. But now where I live now. They're everywhere where I live currently. The Montreal Canadians in Detroit tonight. Still riffing off a pretty dramatic win over the Boston Bruins this week at the Bell Center. Montreal Line have to take it right back though. Here they go out in front. Suzuki. There it is. The captain with goals in three in a row. Off the Hudson. Sharp move on. David Pasternak. Hudson moving in. Drops it off. Suzuki shot in front of the score. Carfield. Butts in home. On the doorstep for 40. 40 on the season, you know. And steady eddies they've been, Connor. Nick Suzuki. If you were to chart his progression as an NHL player, it never flatlines. It just keeps going up on the incline. Cole Coffield having a career year up goal and point wise.

I'm curious. What's impressed you more? Coffield season or Suzuki season? I mean, they've both been a pattern of consistency. I'm curious how you kind of sort both of them out here this year and what they've done. You know, I'm going to go with Coffield because he's done something that I haven't seen since I was a kid in elementary school. Is that all the dating references yesterday that were going around? Yeah. How old were you? Where were you in school? Yeah. You know, Dwight Walton was playing pro ball in Israel. Yeah, that's right. Sean was in high school. So, you know, I've seen 80 points. Yeah. But I haven't seen 40 goals in that long. So for that reason and the fact that there's still 15 games remaining for him to add to that tally, I'm going to give the nod to Coffield. John, still over to you from your side, the more impressive season in what these two guys have accomplished. Is it Coffield or is it Captain Nick Suzuki? Well, considering that the last time there was a 40 goal school for the Canadians, I believe I was defecating in my pants as a toddler.

Oh, it wasn't yesterday. Thanks for adding the toddler part. Yeah, just not currently. But yeah, I mean, it's got to be Coffield. I think, you know, when you bring up Suzuki and Coffield, I wonder then, you know, when the Canadians have had a dynamic duo like this when was the last time this kind of happened, but it's got to be Coffield. It's not just what Connor said there, but, you know, after he was snouted from the American team, he's had the most goals in the national hockey league. It's the nature of those goals as well, you know, and I don't want to, no need to slander max patch ready to time like this. But what was the old adage around max patch ready is, and he always scored into empty nets and all those things. Coffield scores goals in the biggest of moments for the Canadians, and the game is on the line, and the fact he's got a 40, and now people are already going to 50 without even going to 45. I mean, it just speaks to the awesomeness of what he's been able to accomplish. That was going around yesterday.

You talk about patch ready in the king of the empty netters or so, or so was his like stereotypical reputation. That Coffield doesn't have an empty net goal this year, and doesn't have one in his career. Wow. In his career? So wait, is that the knock on Coffield? He never scores in empty netters? No cheapies. No cheapies. So it's a good thing. I think it's an unbelievable thing to be honest with you. Not in his career? That's bizarre. I mean, there's a few bizarre things. There's that, and then the Canadians record. I know we've spoken about it before, 270 and three from a gold standard that gives him 900 or better safer percentage. I guess he could say it's kind of rarely on the ice. Protecting one goal lead. Fair. There's a knock on him. There's a knock on him. Or, you know, I mean, it's, it is a testament to patch ready. That was a role that they asked me to play. But anyway, let's go back and forth. I've got three questions in a buy or sell. I'm going to give you the question. You tell me do you buy it, or you're just going to sell it off, because you're just not a believer. We'll go in an alternating fashion today, John. You get question number one. The Montreal Canadians are better positioned for a first round playoff series this year

than they were last year. Do you buy it, or you sell in it? Cool. I probably have to sell, because I just think the quality of opponent at the moment is probably going to be more challenging than the capitals. I never really believed that the capitals all season long. Last year, they were a team that were kind of reinforced by an unbelievable power play, and it felt like their entire directive was getting Alexander Ovechkin his record. And the other teams that I think the Canadians are going to potentially play, beat up the sabers or the lightning, or I guess even the hurricane. Yeah, maybe. I think the hurricanes are a little bit of a tougher matchup, because they're a volume shooting team, and the Canadians kind of struggled with clear people over their crease. So I'll sell. I'll sell on the Canadians first round this year. Connor, buying or selling the Canadians are better positioned this year for a playoff run, or first round series I should specify than they were last year.

I'm Luke Wilson. Join me each week for Film Never Lies. Since retiring from the NFL, I've had a lot of my mind now. Got my own show. So if your tired of lazy takes, if you want honest conversations, join us each week. Film Never Lies available on all TSN platforms in the iHeartRadio app. I'm just going to focus on the Canadians here, and not on the opponents and say yes. I like this team year over year in the progress that they've shown. You know, Coffield has taken a step forward. Suzuki's taken a step forward. Hudson's taken a step forward. Yeah. Who else has taken a step forward? Yakov Dobesh, perhaps most crucially, has taken a massive step forward. Hudson, did you say him? I did, yeah. So I think with, if I'm just looking at the team that they've got here, they've got a functioning second line, most nights, which was not really the case last year. I think the defense is still a bit of a question mark, but they've got some big time players there on the back end. So looking internally, I'd say absolutely the Canadians have a better looking team on paper,

heading towards the playoffs, and that's reflected in the standings this year. Question number two, buying in or selling off. Connor, the WBC meant more to team Venezuela than team USA. Yeah, I think that's probably true. Yeah, buying it. Definitely was true of the fans. I don't think anybody could argue that. I mean, you look at the, oh my gosh, look at the stadium in Miami there. The sound. And you get the answer to your question right there. So yeah, I'll say yes. John, the WBC meant more to Venezuela than the USA this year. Yeah, I would buy that for sure, because as far as I know, not watching, you know, sports talk shows coming out of Caracas, but they didn't lose their minds over one of their players saying, this is better than the World Series. It always felt kind of jingo-y to some of the media and some of the people who cover the sport. I feel like Venezuela had to be all right. And finally, in buying in or selling off question number three, John,

the Boston Bruins are more likely to drop off than the Pittsburgh Penguins next season. Ooh, I will... Wow. I will sell on that one. I'll sell on that one because apparently, you know, the contract with Evgeny Malkin, that's not necessarily at the point where they wanted to be. It's like it's contagious at this moment in time. And look, the Bruins have... They have the gold-tending and swam in. They have a Norris trophy or what, in my opinion, one of the Norris trophy candidate players in the league in Charlie McAvoy and they still have a superstar in his prime and David Pasternak. So I'll sell... What a player. What a player. Buying or selling that the Boston Bruins are more likely to drop off in the standings than the Pittsburgh Penguins next season, Connor? I think I'm selling... Hmm. Because we've been waiting for the Bruins to drop off for like five years now.

Yeah. Every year, every time they lose one of their... I mean, to start it with Chara and maybe even start it before that and I'm not remembering. But Patrice Barcelona retire, they trade in Brad Martian and, you know, Morgan Geeky becomes an elite goal scorer in the NHL and supporting cast members are better than they appeared to be on paper going into the season. I mean, the Bruins just seem to find a way to tread water. I don't think it's... It's like I've been saying, I don't think it's really good for the long-term health of this franchise. Like, I think they do need to kind of retool at the very least or maybe rebuild. But to John's point, it's tough to do that when you have a Norris caliber defenseman a 100-point guy up front and a goalie who could be in the mix for the Vesonotrophie in any given season. So they're in a weird spot the Bruins are for sure. Now, there's Connor McKenna with the John still big shout out to the house band today. Really playing in nicely. Good tone. Thank you, everybody, for your contribution. Kind of go back at the Canadian sculptor. Listen, this is a classy show, John. There's a saxophone in there. John still, the voice of CF Montreal for us on TSN690.

And of course, part of the ensemble cast that is a meldic in the afternoon. John behind the microphone again that coming up this Sunday afternoon with CF Montreal takes on FC Cincinnati. As we play along with the three star quiz brought to you by Ashgrigua, Shaman Nisan and a reminder, we're going to Detroit in less than an hour's time. Mark Dene from the RDS call will be with us as we look forward to another massive game for the Montreal Canadian starting at seven o'clock tonight. They carried in against bootstarts and Saturday. I'm in with the backside coverage on Byfield. The puck comes free to McDavid. Still sitting on 99 points. Drop pass. Drives title keeps the scores. And there's a riddle for McDavid and 30 for Drives title. Dun dun dun. Connor, let's talk about drama in the national hockey league. Leon Drives title is out for the rest of this regular season as general manager says it's kind of... It's good news, bad news. The bad news is they lose their superstar for the rest of the season, but he's not going to need surgery and it's likely that they get him back for the playoffs. Now for the sake of Connor McDavid and offseason NHL drama corner.

Do you want the oilers to miss the playoffs, get smoked in the first round, or go on another run and just avoid the McDavid drama potential altogether? What of those choices do you find yourself cheering for today? Uh... Look, I'm going to say go on another run. Go on another run. I want more Connor McDavid. Connor Ingram. The longer Connor McDavid is playing hockey, the more I get to watch Connor McDavid play hockey the happier I am. Yeah. So other than... Yeah. I'm going to say that the hockey fan in me wants to see Connor McDavid playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs. And therefore, they play in the first round. It's looking less and less. All the, you know, the Kings could get in there, but will they face the, the oilers, it looks like the Kings might be able to avoid that matchup in the first round with the oilers finally. Depending on what happens if Seattle, if Seattle and L.A. are in a dogfight in San Jose right there for that last playoffs spot right now. Yeah. And whoever that is, those is going to play Colorado or Dallas in the first round,

depending on which of those teams ends up on top of the conference. So we're going to see something a little bit different here in the first round. Maybe we're going to see Edmonton Vegas. I could see Edmonton losing that series, but now, you know, give me more economic, David, not less. John, you cheering for Euler drama or an Euler run or perhaps a smoke show in the first round of the playoffs looking at the potential of blowing it up and Edmonton, if it goes sideways, what are you cheering for? I'm cheering for the first round, Edmonton. Enough, enough, enough. The Edmonton oilers are just such a joke of a franchise,

the way that they operate this. I got ticked off the other day because now all the media members in or a couple of prominent media members in Edmonton are trying to create this push for Evan Bouchard to win the Norse trophy. And that just kind of drives me nuts as well, just as a sidebar. Because I think he's just like a, I think he's a horrific defensive player, even though he puts up a lot of points. But yeah, like, do I think that they will lose in the first round? No, because drysideal two years ago was on one leg, and he got them within a game of winning the Stanley Cup. So we've seen that even hobbled this guy can play out of his mind. But you just look at it, and since drysideal has gone down, it's Jason Dickinson playing down the middle, not Ryan Newshan Hopkins for the Euler. It's just like there's all these things, not just in terms of the way that the teams have put together, some of the decisions by the coaching staff as well, that are just mind-boggling.

And again, the goal tending over and over again, the albatross of a contract to Darnell Norse. I mean, there is only going to be one thing that is going to really change economic David's mind, I think. And that is, you know, something really kind of horrific going down for the Euler's and... Stan Bologna gets struck by a meteor. And, yeah. That culmination of two years of going to the Stanley Cup final, and not winning. And then a year where the Florida Panthers are not in the playoffs, and you, you know, kind of bow out early, I think it's going to be only the only thing that's finally going to change with Jesus' mind. There's John Still from Mel look in the afternoon with Conor McKenna, I'm Sean Star, Mark Dene from Detroit just after 8.30 this morning. He was on the call on Tuesday night. The following day, the final of the day, so I'm in. Suzuki comes back to the front. He hesitate to go back to the back of the Hudson. Hudson had a win. He had to go to the back of the Hudson. The last one, the last one, the last one.

The last one, the Suzuki. CIRCUS! CIRCUS! CIRCUS! CIRCUS! CIRCUS! CIRCUS! What a way to wait! The 40-year-old, the Bugaglia, to open the gates of the past! No! Cold coffeeield, Napahar, Can't find much! The great period of RDS with the call, in honor of Cold Coffeeield, making Canadians history, becoming the first 40 goal score, since Vinny Damfouz did it back in 93-94. John, who's your favorite all-time NHL goal score? First of all, I love when Pierre holds off the map arrow for one of these moments, and I love that he doesn't drop it all the time, like he knows when to apply it. Favorite all-time goal score? Not only who your dad told you about, or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no. Man, I grew up with everything, Joe Sackick.

Joe Sackick, you know, I think he, I think Joe Sackick reinvented in a way, the way that players shoot in the NHL, like now we talk about launch angles, and the way that players are able to kind of manipulate, how they're able to shoot the puck, bring getting closer to their body. I mean, Joe Sackick essentially killed the slap shot for, you know, the rest of the NHL for a long, long time. The Joe Sackick scores at the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, and yeah, the Sackick curve on every stick that I bought when I was a kid got to be Joe Sackick. I love the Bob Cole Joe Sackick. Connor, your favorite all-time NHL goal scores, you pay tribute one more time to Cole Coffee, it's 40 goal season. Alexander McGilney. Hey now. Loved him when I was a kid. Yeah. But that's gonna be my honorable mention. My guy will be Bret Hall. Yeah, Bret Hall. Yeah, just, that's funny. Something about Bret Hall, man.

Born to score goals. Yeah. Born to score goals. Whatever I've told you this story before, I remember going to see though my dad take him to see a game, St. Louis Blues at the forum against the Canadians and watching the warm up with my dad and he's pointing at 16. He's like, watch 16. He can shoot the puck so hard that if it didn't hit the net, it would just keep going and going and going all the way to Mount Sutton, which is where we used to go skiing when I was a kid. And so that was my point of reference. And yeah, it's just funny the things you remember. Yeah. And that's, that's definitely one of them. Yeah. Bret Hall would be high on the list too. I don't know. Did Alexander Ovechkin enter either of your minds with that question? Ilya Kovlochuk to me is up there too. I love watching him score. Love, love the skillset. How about Pavel Bray? Absolutely. I know if Sean Campbell were on the call, that no doubt would be his number one. No love for Phil Espin. What about Wayne Gretzky? What about Wayne Gretzky? What about Mario Lemieux? Yeah, it's like a goal score. Yeah, goal score. Pure goal score. Yeah, indeed. Like like Cole Coffields. You guys are my prime time goal scores.

John's still great to hear you on the quiz. Thanks for getting up nice and early with us. And have fun on Milligan the afternoon today. That's pleasure. And hopefully we'll see you at Hurley's on Friday. That's another invite. That's another, remember. Yeah. Email from Melnik yesterday. Now John has officially extended the invite. Hope, hope to see us. Now Lucas, as long as Lucas Scott's going to have to obviously reach out. Yeah, that happens. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're going to have no choice. John's already said he's not planning on going. And it's Pat. I mean, it's too busy. Campbell and Gallower that Hurley's at 10 and they'll go right into Milligan the afternoon to 2. We're not welcome there for the morning show. It'd be a very short commute for you. You could walk. I could walk. Yeah. Wouldn't, but you could. I might. I might. Yeah. We'll be back in a second. Hey, remember Mike Keenan and speaking of Bread Hall. Mike Keenan had an unconventional way of keeping his players playing well. Some of the guys who played for him elaborate on that. You're going to want to hear it right after this on the morning show.
