Talking Habs hockey. You don't have to scream at your radio alone. TSN 690. Welcome back. Wednesday just past 9 o'clock. You know what that means. It's time to talk basketball with White Walton. Good morning to White. Good morning Conor. How you doing today? I'm doing well. I dare say I'm doing better than Carl Anthony Town. So we'll get to in a second. Maybe not actually. I think he's doing all right. Newly wed. He's got money on the table. How are you this morning, Dwight? I am very good. Obviously in great spirit right now because the NBA season has started. I'll be at the preseason. The NBA starts in little under two weeks. October 20th with a triple header. So I'm looking very much towards that. But there are still some news out there that could be controversial going forward. I know we're going to touch on it. But again, the preseason is here. Some games have been played. You've gotten to see some some individuals that you were curious to see. So it's been fun so far. Yes.
Let's start with 76 million dollars, which is the gap apparently between what Carl Anthony Towns could be making on a max contract versus what the Nicks want to give him. Sham Sriranya says an offer of 200 million dollars over four years. Obviously that's a lot of money. And pretty much everybody honest would love to make that much money. But Carl Anthony Towns is he's a max player right Dwight? There's no question. If there were any questions before that, I will say this. Had the Nicks not won the championship. I think this conversation be a lot deeper and a lot more controversial than it will be. But here here's the issue for the next now because Jalen Brunson took the initiative, if you will, to leave $113 million on the table when doing his contract a couple of years ago. So the next to allow worldwide West and Leon rose to be able to build to invest in what became a championship roster.
I believe the organization of the Nicks and the fans out there are expecting Carl Anthony Towns to do the same now. Carl Anthony Towns has said that he is willing to give the Nicks the quote unquote hometown discount, but to go from 276 million to 200. That's a lot of that's a big haircut. And I do understand that the Nicks also have other decisions to make going forward in regards to Josh Hart. O.G. Annovi, the Cal Bridges and ultimately Jalen Brunson is going to be on the table as well. And I don't expect him to give another discount the way he did a couple of seasons ago. So James over and his on record he refuses to go to the second apron, but I think the mix overall will want to keep this roster intact. So it's going to have to be some compromise on decisions, some compromising, some conversations in terms of give us something will give you back in return.
And that's going to have to be the conversation with all of the players that have extensions on the table over the next couple of years. From Carl Anthony Towns as far as I'm concerned, the way he sacrificed for this Nicks team, which resulted in a championship. We understand that Jalen Brunson is the best player on the mix, but I believe it was Carl Anthony Towns that made the sacrifice and the decision to play his part. It would end up being a great strategy for the mix to the championship. Don't get this contract done, but it will be a $6.76 million haircut. It'll be somewhere in between. I guess he called up the town settling for five, seven years, at around 220 to $230 million. But to answer the question, he definitely deserves the max contract because at the end of the day is now an NBA champion. What about James Dolan's stated refusal to enter the second apron? Sky owns the Nicks, he owns Madison Square Garden. He's got all the money in the world.
Yeah, that's the thing. As an owner, you come out and say two days after with the championship, but I am not going to the second apron. So that resulted in the mix losing Mitchell Robinson to the heated rival Boston services, the same division. That was a financial decision. They brought everybody else back and they also added players that were on veterans that are on veteran minimum contract. So he's trying to hold steps back there, but he also he's smart enough to lead the room. James Dolan has now put some positivity on his name by winning this championship, especially he ingratiated himself in the fans with that video tape, that surface after they won the championship about the depleted one. The the leader win the championship of the speech that he gave before the playoff started. So he has a lot of good things going on right now for himself. James Dolan doesn't want to get in the way of this team possibly breaking up because of money.
So does does James Dolan compromise and go into the second apron for a couple of years or do the players do James Dolan a favor and take the haircuts that he wants those players to take so they can maintain this roster stability. So the first team in the last 10 years to be to go back to fact as champion is going to be very tough in this new era of the collective body and agreement, but compromises have to be made on both sides. If the mix and any other franchise going forward wants to be a wants to be able to maintain roster stability. It's difficult, but things can get done. It's have to be civilized and have civilized conversations going to be tough. Does money money is money. Everybody wants to maximize their ability to make money. And that's why these conversations are so tough. Well, not everybody Dwight. Absolutely not. I will never be able to. It's not a good enough quality. Absolutely not. I will never do that says Victor Wemba Niyama when he's asked to fill ever endorse a betting company.
This at the same time that LeBron James is signing with Polymarket Kevin Durant serving as a fan dual ambassador. Yannis and Ted Acumpo is holding shares in Calci. Wemba Niyama is different in a number of different ways. They always describe him as an alien. I am curious for what you think about basketball's resident extra terrestrial flashing his virtue again. This is this is how he rolls. This is the position of the perception. And the end is that he wants to put out there and seems genuine. He doesn't want to be involved in that. He doesn't want to have any controversy whatsoever attached to him. He knows that all lies are on him Connor. He's seven foot four seven foot five according to people that have seen him in person. I've seen him in person. I think he's a lot closer to seven foot five. That's why he's such a unique individual. He has impact on the sport both on and off the floor. He knows he's going to be a champion in the future. A lot of eyes are on him. He wants to be a role model. He has embraced that part of his popularity of his fame.
He wants to do right by people. And if he feels enough of a condition to where he doesn't want to attach his name to anything that could be controversial going forward. I applaud and respect him for that. It is tough. He's going to be scrutinized on on everything that he does. He understands that. But in this climate of social media. It's it's almost next to impossible to do anything perfect. So could host to him. I understand why he's doing this. But if he's missing out on opportunities financially off the basketball floor. Maybe but he knows he's going to get it in other ways. He can attach himself to endorsements that he that he feels very cool. When it comes to gambling. And again, I'm not a gambling myself. So I understand why he's doing this. But it's tough when every major sport is attached to a lot of these gambling sites, especially with Las Vegas have the number to have four major sports in North America in Las Vegas.
This is the reason why I took a long time for any of the commissioners in the sports in North America to put teams in Las Vegas. But it is what it is. When it comes to gambling, there's a lot of money involved, sound and sports, all of those things. It is what it is. But again, I respect and applaud for not wanting to attach his name to any of those sites. It's sort of somewhat refreshing. But at the same time, we all understand that gambling is a major part of professional sports around the world. Well, and it's also a huge part of the NBA. You know, but the and the scandals. I mean, that have been broiled the sport, frankly, for the last couple of years as well. There's that. I don't know. I just I will say this about it. I find it refreshing given that it seems that the modern conventional wisdom is that you take as much money as possible. Everybody's got to take as much money as possible more, more, more, more, more from the people who have the most to even these athletes that are making so much money. And it's always more, more, more, more, more that it's kind of frankly refreshing to see a guy be like, you know what? No, not not not in this case.
I totally agree that if again, for as popular and as famous as he is to take someone up a stand. If you will, I'm sure it's sort of caught people by surprise. But again, if this is the image that he wants to put forth and he's going to stick to that. More power to I respect it. You know, talking about the Eastern Conference a moment ago, reflecting on the next and what's going on there and trying to run it back and and you know the rivalry with Boston and everything else this morning. How seriously do you consider the 76ers with their revamp roster as a threat here in this Eastern conference race? A very definite threat if they're healthy shot and it's it's it's pretty clear when LeBron James decision after the the sixers acquired Jim and Brown to join that roster. He immediately put a championship target on the sixers organization as and as put themselves in a championship or bust situation. Now we all understand the history of McGrog James.
Maybe he doesn't win in the first year when he goes to a new team, but they win the championship in the second season now because of his age because of the injury history with Jorland and himself is going to be a lot of load management. There's going to be a lot of nights where chemistry has to be figured out this is going to be done on the fly and with the Eastern Conference as competitive as it is. 82 games season is a is a marathon, not a sprint. It is long. There's even flows to this. There's going to be random nights on a Tuesday night in December or February to work players maybe on the court, but they don't feel like playing. But that's competitive as the Eastern Conference is going to be this season. You really can't take those opportunities to where you take nice off. There's too many good teams. The mix, the Celtics, the Hawks, the pistons, the calves, the Pacers, the heat, the Hornets, the magic.
Those are the teams that are all buying the Raptors. Excuse me, all buying for the Eastern Conference Championship this season. If you talk to all of those coaches, all of those players are know the mix of the defending champions, but all those teams feel they have a legitimate shot. If breaks gold, they're away throughout the season in terms of injury, load management, whatever the case may be, but the sixes are definitely in the championship conversation. How could they not be when we've got Chinese Maxi, DJ Edgecomb, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, Joel and D, Anthony Simon, Octavius Caldwell, Paul Dean Wade, Adam Bona, all of those players are going to play a major role in what happens with the sixers. The season, they've got the experience, they've got the championship DNA, they've got the depth, they have the length, they have the system, the full of about the 76ers are definite players, not only in the Eastern Conference Shawn, but definite players to end this season with an NBA championship.
All right, and Dwight, the news that LeBron James, we kind of knew this that David is time between New York and Philly and we spoke about it last week. Then we learned that I was so glad to learn this that he wasn't going to have to pay for his own helicopter, that he has access to the fanatics chopper. It's six to $9,000 one way to charter a helicopter between New York and Philadelphia. How do you feel about the face of the NBA flying around in a helicopter as much as LeBron James maybe is going to be this season? Well, the automatic image that we all have, don't want to think about, is the unfortunate helicopter accident that Kobe Bryant's daughter and all of those players had a way back when, and that's when we all think about. I understand that that the that the aerial dynamics may not be the same in the Philadelphia slash New York area as it is in in Southern California, but at the same time, I get it.
I understand that being in New York is a lot closer to all of his endorsements is his movie companies, all that kind of stuff. I get it. He will be in Philadelphia more often than not, but is this something to do with fanatics is this a promotional thing? It probably is, but I do understand what he is doing. It's not a life that I would that I that I that I know about, but it's his preference and his life. And this is what he wants to do just be careful because the first image all of the past is going to be right at his daughter and the rest of the team. That was on that helicopter that day. That's why everybody is flinching when it comes to this. I do understand it. He wants to do this. It is what it is ultimately as long as he plays well in the basketball court and brings the sixers ultimately what they want is a championship. All will be good in the end. That's all matters here, but a lot of us have interpretations about it. It is what it is. It's his life. It's his decision.
And it is what he wants to do. Let's see all things play out. Dwight, thank you for your time. As always, we appreciate it. Thanks guys. That's Dwight Walton. I'll tell you who's not taking a chopper home today. And that's me. Get him to the chopper. I got a drive just in a car. It's get him to the chopper. I thought it was just get to the chopper. I don't know. I'm considering I've got what I'm kind of want to make some moves today. And I want to make some moves. There's a movie I've been meaning to see. And it's basically I got it. If I want to see it when I am available to see it, I got to go to Cavendish Mall to watch it. Oh, the Bubbies in the Zades. And I love to be able to be chopper in and out of deep, deepest Coates Ain't Luke like that. Do they have the infrastructure to be able to do that? They've got a helicopter pad on the roof there. No. If you're going to be more of a hamstead thing, but maybe they do. That's fair point. Remember, there was like a UFO phenomenon in a Cavendish Mall back in the day. Does that ring a bell for you at all?
No, and I saw the Blair Witch project there. And I don't recall that at all. I've seen I haven't last movie I saw there was the Fable Men's. Have you ever seen that movie? Yes. It's good. Yeah. It's fine. But it was it's very luxe. They've got like recliners and everything. I know. Yeah. I love that seating arrangement. It's nice. It's nice. But it's still a getting there. It's just it's far from crucially. It's far from the highway. Right. You've also got to like kind of take the carry if you want to go. Yeah. I know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And you got to get home. They say it's a slip. Connor. And apparently it was 1990. Oh, really? Oh, no. That was Bonna venture hotel Bonna venture. Oh, yeah. In September 2010, several people in the Coates, St. Luke neighborhood called police early in the morning about UFOs or strange blinking lights that were hovering high in the sky. Yeah. One of them was a doctor, an OB-GYN who spotted the object when he was driving home from work at 12 30 a.m. He said it couldn't believe his eyes said there were many little sparkly red and blue lights that had a changing shape morphing from something that looks triangular to something that look like a trapezoid.
It was not a stable shape. It was coming closer moving farther. It was turning and rotating. And then he saw a bunch of other people looking up at the same thing, including a man who told them his wife was so spooked that she ran home. And he says he's guy is eagler. It spends a lot of time in the country in the summer. It's probably got a cottage. O.B.G. I.N. says I've seen satellites. I've seen falling stars. I know what a plane looks like. None of those things had the trajectory or motion that this did. He called the police. He's got a medical doctor called the cops. Can you imagine what you would have to see? Yeah, in order for you to call 911. Yeah. Yeah. Not and I guess back in 2010, you'd be less likely to have like a smartphone that could take a good video of it anyway. But I always find stuff like this fascinating, especially with all the stuff that's been released in the last couple of years about what the US military in particular knows and doesn't know about this sort of thing. But I, yeah, I'm glad my memory surf that it was. I don't know about the Cavendish mall. Maybe it was just co-sane Luke. Right, right. Yeah.
He says by the way, the doctor, I doesn't believe in extra, extra terrestrial life, but thinks he did see something otherworldly. But you don't believe it. Yeah, I mean, which one is it? Yeah. Yeah. What are you saying? I turned the we turn to puck over. You have a very immature. Our puck decisions last night said Nick Suzuki. We'll be back in a few moments and when the morning show continues, we're going to dive back in on you got to hear it. Although, there's only two clips. So what do I do now, Sean? Play the Philly one again. That was good. Philly one. Yeah, okay. Eagles fans are mad at Nick Sireani and expressing themselves as only Eagles fans can. We'll play that for you next year on the morning show. Ask for GSN 690. Hi, I'm Mahala and you are listening to the money show on TSN 690. Thank you, Mahala. Here we are back again. And let's check in with Eagles fans leaving.
What's the name of their stadium again? The link. Yeah, link it financial field on Sunday after a deb, frankly, a devastating loss. You call it a gut punch. Yeah, yeah, especially coming off that, you know, they only scored seven against the Bears a week before that. Yeah, they they and then they looked like they were going to beat the presumptive Super Bowl champs on Sunday until all of a sudden, Kyron Williams struck with two big touchdown runs in the fourth quarter. Here's a taste of what Eagles fans were saying as they left the stadium. Coach doesn't kick a field goal. They had coaching again. Sireani blew the game again for the for the unsmosed times. We could have been at one point up two points. Nick Sireani. I'm sorry. Like Sireani. I got go. Nicky net, Nicky net. Nick is cute. He's angry. He can scream, but he doesn't he doesn't make the team come out of halftime and be the team. What's happening at halftime? Are we eating meatballs? He's so cute eating meatball subs. Anyway.
I could eat a meatball sub me too. Yeah, absolutely right now I could some provolone. So anyway, yeah, the Eagles, one of the teams that's maybe looking for answers a little bit. And they've got that's not getting any easier for them. They got the Jaguars and London on Sunday. Then they've got the Panthers who are good. Right. Panthers are good team. Yeah, I don't take them lightly at this point. I don't take them lightly. And yeah, more difficult games to come. Why is this so complicated? Yeah, then it's the Cowboys, the defenders, the giants, the Steelers, the Cowboys. Anyway, no speaking of football. I couldn't help but notice here. If you don't judge me for a moment, see you got yourself a little key on Coleman. Oh, that happened. The angry pirates. I got the email this morning. My waiver claim has been denied. Sorry. Oh, are you? No, I was definitely very much looking forward to that. I thought it was later on today. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, because our team is so I've already put out a trace pool. So like no one pays attention in this week. Like you can basically so far. You're the first person to actually
prevent me from getting the player that I had targeted and to be fair. Go ahead. Be fair. I am the one who put planted that idea in your head. You asked the question asking Andy McIntyre about that player. And he's a fantasy expert. And that was his advice. So I mean, of course, why wouldn't I take his advice? I and all I already had the claim in did you before I asked the question. Okay, fair. That I was unaware of. But here I will disclose it is a close something further. Did anybody get Tyree kill. And not that I saw I didn't I didn't go through the raw. I didn't go through the league movement page. No, so I don't know. Um, because I was considering doing that as well. And I right, right. And he talked me out of it. So I didn't do the Tyree. Yeah, yeah, I did do the key on Coleman move. I got my boy Tiroa McMillan is on a biweek. Right. So you need a guy. I need a guy in case on booty is not going to cut it. So okay. Listen, I just took it as okay. You know, we I'm pretending to be a general manager. It's a cutthroat shark business. And then that's that's the business. I just I chose not to take it personally. I had a number two waiver wire priority, which is why I got it ahead of you. Yeah, I know you're three and one. I see why? Well, yeah, I'd be like, you know, like. Who are some winless teams? George and Simon's team.
Is winless. I think Lucas Scott's team is a wireless. Why would I be second? I don't know if that makes sense. Hmm. Unless it's I but I think that's it. I just I had higher priority than you did. I'm not sure. Have you made any waiver claims this season? Yes, one. I think that's why. Yeah, I think it's based on whether you've already done. And like I said, our league, our participants in this league, they're they're not very active. So that's what I'm saying. Like you're going to have a high success rate where you're going to be able to like pinch guys off the waiver because no one really pays attention. Let me ask you. I did offer a trade proposal. I offered Lucas Scott. He has Patrick my homes on his bench. I offered him like a bum receiver. I wrote your winless bro give up. What did he say? He hasn't gone back to me because I told you no one pays attention. He's very busy. I'm taking on the pride of code St Luke Joey Elias this week. Sean is the scheduled. Sean and OSA are going toe to toe. The last two undefeated teams facing one another. Yeah. And how last ink. The only winless team.
Is looking to knock off Sean Campbell's team in their matchup. But hella sink is projected for 109 points this week. Tough roster for two football junkies. Huh? They got some some some hard some bad luck, I would say. Anyway, we'll be back. Sorry for sending that much time talking about our fantasy teams. Let's get back to the Canadians. And they're lost in their season opening. Well, home opening game last night and some clips from some of our favorite contributors. It's all coming up here in the morning. GSN 690 gives all the prills of live sports. Tomorrow night. The predators come to Montreal. It's abs versus predators. Why from the Pell Center? The drop is its semifatilof the draw Canadians win it. Opened up space patches off in front. They score if on Demidob has tied the game at five five in the final minute of the third. Never miss a moment. GSN 690. Hi, I'm Chris Criter. Thanks for listening to the morning show with Connor McKenna and Sean star on TSN 690.
Um, my, my to use the parlance of the times my low key, my favorite moment from the Canadians pregame last night. Yeah. Was learning that the Canadians players call Derek Lallon newsie. That was my favorite nickname reveal since learning that they call Mike Matheson Billy last year. Right. Which I've never had this confirmed, but I always assume was Billy Matheson like Billy Madison, the Adam Sandler movie. Yeah, it makes sense. Which had came out before most of these guys were even born. No exaggeration here. That's actually a true statement. Um, but yeah, New Zealand. Pierre McGuire spoke about him yesterday. I'm not looking the afternoon. You learn this over time in the national hockey league. He was an assistant in Tampa during the Atlantic Division. He was an assistant in Toronto during the Atlantic Division. He was a head coach and Detroit during the Atlantic Division. So you got a guy that knows every single team that's going to be one of your competitors because when he was in Tampa, they played Florida in the playoffs.
I mean, he was, you know, you see all these different scenarios and you get to know everybody in the league. And I think that's what's one of the things he brings that's really, really important. It's a good perspective there from Pierre with, I guess, that DJ we mentioned. Just to say where's he suddenly at an 80s bar? It's not where Pierre is. It's where Melnik was. Right. On site at the Bell Center. Right. Yes. Yeah, there was a DJ rocking. Yeah. Like, Sanka set yesterday outside the Bell Center. Right. That's what you're here in the background there. And that's, you know, that's a money point on Derrickal alone. I mean, which I always was like, yeah, this seemed like a good idea. Trevor Latowski doesn't want to do this anymore. So you bring in a guy with a ton of experience and to Pierre's point, a lot of intel on various teams within the division. Yeah, I remember we asked him that at Lovalle when we had the chance to have a lengthy conversation with the new hire, right? And it was a good hire. I like that angle certainly.
But it remains to be seen. It's a learning curve. No doubt. I thought that was, yeah, it makes definitely something like it makes sense on paper. And, you know, the last thing I'm going to do is start going after Derrickal alone three games into the Canadian season here after a short training camp. Yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yadda. Yeah. But the early return shot are not good. I think we can say, yeah, no. I mean, like, yeah, 13 goals, three games. And yes, some mistakes, some glaring mistakes and some old habits, right? So, you know, that's, here's the rub. Like, you got to get on this and get these guys organized. And on that cliched same page, like sooner rather than a little bit later here. He's played in the first two games. So clearly, what they thought was wrong is more serious than whatever it was that they thought. And so, going from a bruise to whatever might have revealed itself, you never know when swelling goes down, something can show up in a scan that maybe didn't earlier. So, who knows what happened here. But
two to four weeks for Yvonne Demida is not, I don't think the Canadians are going to be able to accommodate his absence quite as easily as Marty wanted us to believe this morning. That was our pin bass who yesterday on Melnik in the afternoon. And nothing that we saw last night. I mean, if you were worried about what the Canadians going to look like without Demida, I don't think you saw anything last night that made you any less worried. No. Then you would have been when we got the news yesterday. Got it. Yeah, look, he's got to get healthy, obviously. And so, here's hoping, you know, it's funny that we were talking about it. You know, it's a bruise. What's the deal? Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And now, sure enough, maybe it's something more, maybe it is, remember what I said. Bone bruise, maybe. Exactly. Yeah. But whatever it is, it's going to keep him out two to four weeks. The important thing is going to be that they get him back healthy. Yeah. And he's not playing through it, right? That was the thing we've talked about before in the past, where like, there was that old hockey suck it up and all I can play through this. It's gained three of
84. It took a puck off the foot and try to revier it. Right? So, it's, it's foot related. Yeah. It sounds like anyway. Yep. Are you ready to just put Slavkovsky back with Suzuki and coffee, old yet? Or are you going to give it another couple of games? I'm going to give it another couple of games. I'd rather see Zach Bulldog jump up to that line personally before, you know, you pull the shoot and say, okay, fine, fine. Let's just go back. We need production. We need guys that have established chemistry. What about the fact that it's working for Bulldog where he is, though? Well, you know, I don't disagree. I mean, you know, when it's really not worked for him, for I understand so much of the time. But look, I mean, he's coming off a nice contract extension and got that done and he's off to a good start. Again, I just, a lot of it is going to sound harsh. I just, I'd rather see him there on the chance that maybe he'll, maybe he'll keep the hot hand,
then Kirby dock, like my position hasn't changed. Like the conversation of dock as a potential top six for me, it's it's over. It's over to be harsh. I'm ready to move on and try something else. Yeah. We mentioned this earlier, but apparently based on what the people that were in the building last night said, what there was scattered booze for two guys that were introduced before the game last night. Yeah. One of them was Chris Crider, which I get, I don't, I wouldn't personally do it, but I understand why he's some people booed him. Yeah. I have a harder time understanding why anybody would boo Kirby dock two games into the season, but it is what it is to quote Dwight Walton. Yeah. Basically, I can't disagree with what you're saying. Like, I don't know much, but I know that Kirby dock is not a top six player. I mean, he can play in the top six, but it'll look like it did last night. I think it was one shot for it, even strength versus 10 shots against now. There's
five guys on the ice. Yeah. So yeah, I don't want to put that only on Kirby dock, but he is the wild card, whatever he's the variable. He is the one that was inserted in that spot for to meet off and therefore, and it's not as if that line is look great either way. Mm hmm. But I do think that you and I agree that whatever Kirby dock is, yeah, a top six forward is not the thing that he is. And he actually, he had a pretty good night in Toronto on opening night. Pierre McGuire said he thought it was the best game he'd ever seen in play for the Canadians. Yeah. Yeah. Muscled a battle down radish and helps connect with Josh Anderson in that game. But again, like, but that was in the top. He was not playing on the second. No, and we've seen we've seen instances where we come in the morning after like, yeah, there we go. But it's always that that question always remains at the front of the Kirby dock topic is, oh, well, do it again.
And you know, the repeatability factor is not a strong suit. So that's why, you know, I can't help it fall back on, you know, the perspective I had had about this guy and the identity crisis and everything else. And maybe I just don't think the way they do in that, you know, you give Kirby dock an opportunity. And I think that was a big buzzword going around. Yes, that it went the news drop that Demi doll was going to be out two to four weeks. Opportunity was the buzzword before puck drop. Opportunity for Florian Jacki. Opportunity for Kirby dock back in the top six role and everything else. And then I fall back to like the identity crisis and what this does to your psyche of, okay, yeah, you know, I got a one year deal. I know how big this year is for me personally. If I'm trying to think like Kirby dock, I know it's a big year for me, you know, that make or break stuff. And then, okay, I'm going to play the third line guy. I'm going to be that guy. I'm going to play my role. And then the injury now I'm going to get bumped up. And what it like, so what if he goes back there on Thursday and doesn't have another strong game played less than 10 minutes yesterday? What if there's more of that? What does that do in terms of how you feel about
your spot on this team? Like to me, it's just more pressure. It's more pressure for a guy that's probably feeling a bleep ton of it. If you can do it against the hurricanes, you can do it against anybody. And you can do it on a consistent basis. So I think it's a great opportunity for him. Of course, the team will be missing if on Demi doll in the playmaking and, you know, the way he can create something when there's not necessarily something there. But it provides Kirby dock and opportunity to sort of say, Hey, listen, I can, I can do this thing. I have the engine to do it. I have the skill to do it. And I'm going to, I'm going to show you how badly I want to be like a big time contributor to this team. That was Frankie Carrado yesterday before the game. This is Arpen Basu. I'm very curious to see how Kirby does tonight. You know, like if Kirby can stick there and have a run of like healthy, meaningful, successful play, which we've never really seen him do. We've never seen him play like 40 games in a row in a community's uniform or 50 or whatever it is. It's, it's, this is his shot. Like all the circumstances he needed to happen
have kind of happened here. So let's see what he can do tonight. But, you know, it's not, there's no pair for Slavkovsky to go back to. It doesn't seem like an obvious one. There's Arpen Basu. And the last thing I want to do is pile on Kirby dock honestly. I just don't think it's, it's not a formula for success to ask him to be in the top six. It just isn't. And so I guess I'm just, what am I, I'm not going to even knock him for it because I, I just, at no point did I believe that there was a chance that Kirby dock was going to be the answer on that line. That's with all due respect to the guy. Anyway, you know, maybe try something else. But they do. They build Tandem's right. They got coffee, Odin Suzuki is a tandem fill in the spot. Okay. Now it's Chris Crider. You know, they're trying to get whether it's Demidov and Slav as a tandem and fill the whole, you know, whether it's Newhook or Kaplanin or whatever. Pan in excuse me. Pan in. You know, they're trying to get Dino and Bull Duck going as a tandem and then fill in. You want to split that up? Whoever it is, you know, yeah. Thanks to
having Demidov's foot or whatever it is. Yeah. What do you think of Florian Jack? I seasoned AB last night. It was okay. I was honestly, I think I was expecting a little bit more. I wanted to see, I wanted to notice him more than I did yesterday. But again, ice time is ice time and, you know, you played the clip of, you know, the big hit on Nick Elyrs, which I like to see. I did notice him a couple of times from front of the net. Really seemed to make Elyrs mad though. No adopts and put them in an awful spot. No one's no one. I haven't read. I'm not doing it. You're not doing no one's putting, you know, the Jankowski goal on Florian, right? I mean, it was just such a ridiculous play by Noah Dopson, who had a terrible night, you know, but yeah, I guess I was I wanted to notice him a little bit more with the pace and the physicality part. Yeah, I did. I think he's trying not to take penalties. Yeah, a little bit, you know, especially with the parade to the penalty box that was
happening. My gosh. Yeah. A credit in a way to him that he was not penalized in that game. Yeah. Because it seemed like everybody else was at some point, including Nick Suzuki. I was not a guy who's necessarily known for taking very many. Yeah. The Colcoffield take a penalty last night. Yeah. Lady Bing winner. Yeah. Corcofield takes a penalty. Yeah. And a penalty. I wasn't sure how we got that call, but whatever. I mean, it was an annoying night to me. It was a it was a game management. Yes. Clinic. I mean, but not it was it was game management at its worst by the referees. And it started with when the Taylor Hall Taylor Hall that Taylor Hall was called for kind of an absurd. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Where it carried was it carry. Think so. Grab basically grabs his stick to draw a penalty. And then cracks him in the face with his. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And he's bloodied in most of the box. The referees realize they've made a mistake and are then trying to make up for it on and off for basically the rest of the game. Yeah. And Saint at one point Nick Suzuki got punched in the face,
which I guess you get one free shot, you know, my least favorite moment of the night, honestly, was Jordan Martin. Nook taking a free shot at Hutchinson. Yeah. There up one goal in the third period. It's a one goal game. And this guy's saying, and he knew he was going to get a penalty and he didn't care. He didn't care because they are not scared of the Canadians power play. Yeah. But yeah, I don't know what that that was a very telling moment I thought in that game. What does that do to the narrative, right? So many people, you know, they're all they're they will argue for a certain player. Last night, the Canadians had the Jack I bros Anderson and Strubel in the lineup. Are we still on the ice? Are we still debating? I know hockey. I know NHL players say it all the time. They're always trying to reinforce that narrative. The guys aren't going to take liberties because blah, blah, blah, blah. We know that this is not true. We know this. It's just not true. I'm with you. I'm with you. Yeah. That's why you bring up these examples to dispel that that kind of line of thinking that, you know,
a grown man on another team is so scared that he's not going to take a run out of star player. That's always targeted. Well, Lane Hudson's awesome though. Yeah. Even he though, nothing he could do last night. What do you think of those, the new commercialies in there with with Ivan Demidoff? I tune it out. You do, yeah. Yeah. They're they're pumping iron or something and selling. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're on a bike and they're lifting weights. They had one last year. Yeah. Same company here. I start the game late when I've oh, I see my kids stuff. Right. And I wanted to watch all the pregame stuff. So it was particularly late last night. So it enables me to skip the commercials most of the time. So I haven't seen yeah. What are you fan? Not a fan. I think it's cute. I don't mind it. That's nice. Well, I get used to watching it. Yeah, I watched the game on RDS last night. Yeah. Yeah. It's nice. Yeah. Yeah. What? Just gonna play nice with our colleagues, you know, oh, geez. What the a shondon like,
he didn't like the first intermission. He thought it was a bit much. We'll be back in a few moments. Come on. Come on. We'll be back in a few moments. Three two, three two, three. There you impune. You didn't want to hear more about the glory days of Benoit Brune and junior after watching that period of hockey. We'll be back in a few moments and when the morning show continues, we'll wrap things up with the last. Oh, yeah, we got a match ball and rust proofing the giveaway. Huh? Open up the phone lines. Just give it away. We're gonna take calls. No, no, just give us a call. You want to know? No, not our of Benoit Brune. Yeah. Yeah. Keep your car from breaking down the way his body. It's not a no kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I hope that that's all in good fun. With the Metropolitan Rust Roofing Treatment, we'll give it to caller number in honor of Benoit Brune. You want to do 17 or 22? I was going to say 22. That's the first number I think of within. Caller number 22 for a Metropolitan Rust proofing treatment before we come back and tee up today's

The morning show with Connor McKenna and Sean Star. Montreal Sports, questionable opinions, had enough coffee to legally qualify as a performance enhancing drug. TSN690. Hey hey, welcome back. It's fun a moment to the program. Sean, something's going to happen today that I think we can safely say will not happen again until next year until baseball starts again. And that's that there's going to be four baseball games on the same day. Right. Four playoff baseball games on the same day. In the case of the National League Division series, it's game four in both series and in the case of the American League Division series, it's game three. It starts with the Cleveland Guardians looking to stave off elimination against the Chicago White Sox, the White Sox looking to clinch a playoff series at home for the first time in 120 years. It was 1906 and the Chicago Black stockings were I took the optimal bill.
I don't think I don't even think you did back then. They weren't rolling off the Fort Assembly. They were but they were very hard to get. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and everything took so long then. You know, like when the Civil War, it was like the War of 1812. It's one of my favorite examples of this, right? The War of 1812 ended and then came the Battle of, what was it? Little big porn, right? Like long weeks after the war had ended because word had not yet reached the people out there. Maybe offices were. That's how it was back then. What do you mean it ended? Cleveland, Chicago, that's it two? No, four. So we get going at four and then six o'clock, the Dodgers looked to finish off the Braves after Yoshi Yamamoto went off on the Braves, mowed down 10 guys and he did what he does in the playoffs and has done his entire career. Eight o'clock, it's the Yankees trying to stay alive for their part against the Tampa Bay Reyes this time at Yankee Stadium. They dropped the first two games and the story was there's sloppy defense yet again. And then the nightcap, the Milwaukee Brewers will look to finish off the
San Diego Padres because they were unable to do so yesterday. And we'll see the Padres have been electrifying really in these playoffs and it's a great venue for baseball there in San Diego as well the fans so passionate. So it's going to be a lot of fun. That's what's kind of on. I think those are the, if I am going to watch some sports today, it's going to be about as baseball focused as a being for a while. There's no NFL game, the Habs aren't playing. The game of the night in the NHL is at Sydney Crosby and Alex of Etchkin meeting for the third to final time. It just may be. So that's happening. And ticket prices apparently for a capital's games of, I bet, risen exponentially as people scramble for their final chance perhaps to see him play. There's only three games on the NHL schedule though. There's that one, avalanche jets and the jets say not to a DC star, a little rallying cry here in the early goings. And the ducks and oilers some meat in the late game tonight. So that's it for hockey. We'll be back tomorrow. That's Wednesday
night hockey, by the way, on Amazon. So which game? The penguins? Avalanche jets. Okay. Yeah. We'll turn it over. It's programming now, by the way. Offside with Eric Macromales tonight with special guest Brian Bert. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think we can safely say we'll not be wearing a tie for that appearance. As you don't miss that with Eric this evening, Campbell versus Gallo pickup where we left off next year on the morning show. CKGM AM is TSN 690.
