2:03Hello, and welcome to the Raw Preview. We are the Deadly Boys of What Culture. I'm Adam Wilbur. Join by Michael Hanflot, Michael Sidjewick, here to look ahead to tonight's episode of... We've done it, my paper. We've used brilliant live events. We have interviews, round table discussions, and a round-of-the-week complete. The one I can cause, of course, on WrestleCulture. I said, though, John by Hanflot, and Sidjewick, to look ahead to Raw tonight, and all the fallouts from Elimination Chamber. Can I rush that intro at the end there, I think? A bit. I don't know the card for this role, and obviously there's different cards for different shows, isn't there? And historically, after the pay-at-views and PLEs, it's tricky to talk about stuff without stepping on our own dicks when we've got Elimination Chamber review coming.

3:05But, broadly, I'm at this point so excited for WrestleMania, that they can pretty much far out anything they want and point at the sign a lot, and they'll feel good. That's... I mean, that's quite frankly terrible analysis. No, it's the opposite, in fact. It is a reminder of what this promotion is and serves to be, which is all hands-on deck to the, like, the biggest show of the year, the very point of promotion. Even if you've got nothing, I think they've got something, but even if you've got nothing, you sell it as something. And that's what they've got to do. I don't think they've got nothing, by the way. I'm just kind of preemptively... You're basically saying they can do anything and you'll still be excited. Two-degree. But that's... I mean, what am I doing here with that? That's effective promotion, isn't it? No, it isn't. It's effective promotion. It's a brainwashing. It's genuinely... That's effective brainwashing. It's WrestleMania season. Yes. That's an exciting time to watch WWE if you like WWE. Some of the stories could be better. Some of the stories I actually really like coming out.

4:05Effective show we'll talk about later. Okay. That's what like... What a past digger. There is an energy. Yeah, but it turned. You know, what is WrestleMania 13 and the TV before that? I have to do with any of this. And at this point, what does WrestleMania 14 in the build to that? I have to do with any of this? Just set it. Like WrestleMania 13 and WrestleMania 40. Those things happened. You can really live them anytime you want on Netflix. Like, I did last week. It was on the treadmill. Okay, I can't. This is the worst time of year for me to do my job. But I'm more excited in one of the things I did like about the show. Especially your... You're mostly excited about WrestleMania in spite of everything. Not everything but a lot of things. Yeah. I think a lot of stuff is on track as a result of the elimination chamber. Like, a lot of stuff I wanted to see solidified has been. Like, I don't care how much of a mark that makes me sound.

6:05Like, I'm quite certain of that at this point. That was long gone. Like, things getting laid out formally that I was looking forward to laid out formally. That happening. These directions being solidified. That stuff I like. That stuff I enjoy. At least that's consistent about the process. You know, so like the match graphics flash up. I don't think I'm alone in this. Like the match graphics flash up as a result of various like results and like the way the bookings played out and you're like, great. That's that's the thing. That if I wasn't going, which was the case every year before like WrestleMania 35, that would still be the better. I was like, right, home straight now. This is this is cool. You know, this is there. Well, last week Threat needed to punch him in the face and going after him on that post show panel that I've seen it shared everywhere. What? What? Yeah, yeah. I don't need to do my job better. You don't need to do your job better. There's two things that you've missed in the wake of elimination chamber. What was said at the press conference, CM Punk? And I'll fill them in on the Roman tweet. Roman's wrote, yes, so Roman tweets something and then punk fired back at this saying about how, you know, he was responsible for the success of ticket sales and stuff in Chicago for elimination chamber and saying he was going to hit a GTS on everything, one of his stupid family and calling him rusty

8:05reins because he never shows up and, you know, the point of punk is yes, he may well be tired but the reps is what keeps him invested and wise. A fighting champion basically Roman reans. Tweeted. Roman raised tweeted, I don't know. I'm paraphrasing, but this is close, I believe. I don't know who's more tired, the crowd of the champion. I'll see you tomorrow or whatever. See, I'm Monday. Right. So this isn't, I'm going to step my own dick. I apologize. I don't want to, but reality is talk about this, isn't it? That's interesting to me. There was a point I was going to make in a spoiler right now, a match I loved from this. No, this punk, I think that's right. Spirit debate, discrepancy, etc. I thought it was really pointed that word barrett used to phrase a couple of times, no spring chicken. And they were talking about how like, kind of want to like, punk has looked like this before. I think they use the gun to match. Yeah, they do. Punk has looked like this

9:07before. He's looked tired, like he is showing the wear and Terry is older than, you know, like, sort of, he wants to let on some times. WWE historically, where this was like a Vince McMahon edict with a few rule proven exceptions. I'm thinking like, Terry Funk in 1998, all women, like would never speak of the age of the talent as a, as a negative, like Ric Flair's retirement run, win or retire was never because you're old. It was, because you're Ric Flair. And I like, at some point, you have to retire. They were all dead, bearded and stuff like that. Yeah, they always steer away from age as a storyline driver. And it really stuck out to me, like, you know, watching punk and being able, like, like, are they? Punk does look knackered in some of these matches. Like, your investment may vary, my lose may vary on how much you like that as a feature of these matches, but that's the point. I felt like they were trying to turn that bug into a feature if you even sort as a bug in the first place, which I got both ways on really with punk. But like, I felt it was like feature not bug in particular in this match of the weekend, the way the commentators

10:08were leaning on it, the way that like punk was blowing at various points and you think you're like, he could have been knackered, he's getting on, you know, like working it, but he is not working it. But it's interesting that Roman Reigns like targets that straight away. And that becomes an added ingredient in what's already off one promo, a pretty exciting combustible build between the two, this idea of like punk having little respect for the bloodline and the, you know, the majesty of the Rocks big graphic of, you know, like all the family members and then Roman almost like looking punk up and down and then looking it himself joking. You know, there's like that's a real, you know, the whole make Roman look strong. It's like, you're the last person I need like to make me look strong old man. Like that feels like an immediate cool thing to draw from. So I mean, I wouldn't, I know, I'm not technically paid. We don't do a review of the post show, which I'm not going to do it if you paid me. Punk said, I'm going to give a GTS to every member of the stupid family. He said, potentially, I could, but he certainly said last week, he's going to punch you in the face. I could, what if he's talking about what if so, obviously with Finn Balan,

11:10I said, what if I punched Roman in the face when I saw him next week? Because he could say, I know, I might get blown up in a wrestling match. So I'm a fighting champion. At least I don't get blown up doing my entrance like he's stupid cousin. Yeah. But I know like punk and jerk. We aren't friendly terms in the storyline. Yeah, narratively. Yeah, I thought so. All right. Look, I, I, yeah, it's spooked him in the head and don't fuck us up when they had that much. Stop being terrible, James. I've never seen anyone on that neck break a spot. Look, why the sack of in a pro wrestling ring. And I have watched heroes of wrestling. Like, you go back and watch heroes of wrestling now, right? I think we need potentially reappraiser in the wake of J. U. So cool on main event world champion. You watch like, is it Marty Jeanette? You know, who in that opener? Oh God, it's not Stanley, but it may as well be. Yeah. Three or younger than saying punk is today. Yeah.

12:10You know, it's like, Marty Jeanette is getting pillars for this performance because he's one of the best pro, old, fed, work, rake guys and a 1990 does not look like that. He's in good neck, to be honest. Six years before he came back and wrestled Kurt Angle and got a job back. He's got that. He's kind of got that pipe in 94. Yeah. I should probably try to apply myself for Zeke. He's got a nitro job spots and he was looking great for it. Yeah. And that is considered you watched disgrace. What do you want? What damage have you wrought to the good name of professional wrestling in 1999? What are you doing, Marty? You should be ashamed of yourself doing the sewers of wrestling. Like he looks like speed muscle. In that match compared to Joso and Saturday nights main event. That's one way that you do more broadly about this as a storyline driver. I'm in favor of it. As long as you have Roman laugh

13:12and punk say, well, it's kind of what you need to do when you're my age and it's more impressive that I huff and puff and get it done. You know, it is unique. I don't think they would do it and work it in the way that you could argue that the AW1 was even though you went during those first AW matches. It's so noticeable now that you can't ignore it. It's five years. It is so noticeable now. How never a great athlete, how much is it matter? CM Punk is struggling through these long matches. The rule of WrestleMania season is this is where you go, this is where you don't pull your punches. This is where you can swear a bit if you want. This is where you, I know it doesn't exist, but for lack of a better phrase, this is where you break K-fabe because the idea is it is better to sell the animosity between the wrestlers than it is to keep the illusion that wrestling is real because everyone knows it isn't. What you want from this season is the idea of

14:15right, you want to create interest, you want to gasp lines, you want to hear. They said that about this wrestler, you know, the operating principle of the WrestleMania build was kind of like this under Vince as well. Nowadays certainly is, look, we'll never convince these people that this is real and LeVec is more open than potentially any wrestling booker ever that since Russo put in different ways. It's fake, it's a cinema, it's a movie about a sport, etc. The rule is they're not going to believe that the product is real or whatever, but we can make them believe that these two hate each other. That is what they do a lot of. We get the the workshoot lines out the ass around this time of year. So I feel like that is the specific angle they're taking and I think it's clever because people aren't going to remember, like people don't even know who the f**k Danhausen is, let alone remember what Roman Reigns said about CM Punk in a 2021 media interview, but he did say it's always stuck with me this quote. Roman Reigns said of CM Punk, because

15:15Roman Reigns is the spokesperson. I mean, he was one of the few people who was like, I'm not even going to negotiate with it, it'll be for leverage. I know where my bread's put on, I know they're going to pay me regardless. He's a WWE guy till the end, you know. And so he was in the media interviews, like, what do you think about this? He WWE was very dismissive as he would be, you know. And he was like, I already think about CM Punk's return and he's like, sucks, he's old, he does not have an explosive bone in his body. So even though they don't really, they've never really profiled, certainly, you know, the tribal chief, Roman Reigns, this huge great athlete, but they can lean on it. That is much better one than punk the seller's story. I love, I mean, not a lot, I guess I'm speaking speculatively here, but there's obvious avenues with which to explore. And they've already touched on it a little bit with that, like first exchange they had on the room and booked the match. Like, I love that every now and then a story comes along and Sidges write as well. It's far smarter to play with what people already know about the reality than it is trying. Like, you can add layers of fiction to it, but this should be

16:20underpinned by both man, both men thinking that they should be in the spot and the other one should be. It's often the case where when there's a little shred of disrespect that like the program falls apart, I don't know if this is worked or not, but that's the magic of it. Really, it's a dance, isn't it? If this is the dance, like wrestlers that don't respect each other, like that can often go off the rails because there's got to be a respect there at the very beginning. Otherwise, everybody just starts shooting or everybody just more. Like, if keen to get their line out, then not like you could see, I think it's, I think he's actually gained a bit of respect for Seth Rollins begrudgingly, but you could see in the early days, CM Punk had none for Seth Rollins. And it was sort of captivating at times, but then sort of disruptive at others, like the eye roll wasn't necessarily serving the story. Yeah, like that can bang in the microphone against the head of me got the interruption. Ultimately, that became something they were able to weave into the fiction. And I do believe through like gritted teeth and repetition, they've probably found like a working mutual respect. You only do 1% of disrespect. The rest can be now we're going to do

17:26business together. We both know that we've drawn in our own ways. They could both have one of them arguments that they believe they are 100% correct about about each other's drawn power all like they're on. Like Roman Reins can very believably say like the WWE that you were able to throw back into is the one that I like rebuilt by that. He can believe that while like asking everybody to ignore the first five, six years of the biggest most expensive field push this side of the ice, it's right. CM Punk can say a joke in me like I've got like every consistent metric on my side that suggests that like I'm actually the proper star around here. And then like say and you needed people like me to even get going like and it was more people like me and you're still failed and you're still failed and you like they've got enough actual very credible like armor to support themselves against one another when they're poking and the spot the top spot is in itself. I know the belt is the Seth belt and whatever and like Cody's made that WWE

The belt but something like QB1 top guy Becky Lynch as the man this has become fairly common vernacular within K shape now it's people understand that and unreal people understand that that top spot like you could say this to a layperson you just watch unreal well in any job someone's the boss based on like results. Yes. Linsor works the same way it doesn't matter about the piece of jewelry they've got around the waist like this is that this is that as much as anything else is that spot Dream McIntyre has suffered the consequences of not being the guy that is fit for that spot you know I think it's a it's a perfectly reasonable thing to argue over in the fiction now this is possibly the best or most credible version of something I'm increasingly not interested in of like this constant talk of well I make more money for the company I'm the best ambassador for the company I'm the best representative for the company and I do a work shoot line at your expense and these sort of very very long verbal volleys you know I'm not

19:29really into it anymore however with these two in particular it would be sort of bizarre to tack on some kind of proper pro wrestling angle to it like you know like just for example limousine a door break and a car break and someone's arm and punk wears a cast or whatever yeah sight you know I could territory stable you don't need to do anything with this because there is a on record pre-existing tension that quite frankly if they touched on it much last year I've kind of forgotten because Seth was there and I was more interested or more fixated on him wanting to go away really than natural any of the verbal sparring it was Paul him Paul him and as a prize more than it was yeah these two have got so as there's two things one this is the best that I've wanted to say before I move on from it one this is a very credible version of something I'm not into more anymore like these two genuinely don't like each other they've got as hampler

20:33outlined a fascinating case of like I know I should be more important than you aren't actually know you should be grateful that you have a WWE to walk back in and it's all because of me can explore this and not explore that here's something that's held my fascination for a long long time that I don't think it's been reported particularly well or even spoken about right so you go back to the beginnings can half see why Roman would be a bit funny with punk and maybe vice versa because punk when his body was falling apart his psyche was fractured he didn't even know how close he was to quit and relentlessly told keep Roman strong keep Roman strong keep Roman strong keep Roman strong like punks like he couldn't like I've had the best 2013 of anyone in the company I've not really had a go at the proper top and I'm now being told the group the next guy not saying that was the reason why I left but there was a lot of factors that went away so I can see the resentment from that direction from punk to Roman equally

21:39famously CM Punk wanted moxley black and Chris hero to be the shield they said all right two out of three aim but I will have Roman reigns inside a hero and off we'll go so maybe Roman's like I wasn't considered for you little so I get why there's been animosity all along from punk and I don't get this punk first a shield feud that has seemingly happened like at all if you go back like 2011 Twitter before the shield debuted five of series 2012 or it might have been early 2012 Twitter like CM Punk when he was really locked in the WWE and before like he had that miserable 2013 that he experienced once tweeted a picture of Dean Ambrose making his entrance at a house show captioned our secret weapon like Ambrose would get like the dark match like you loop and loop on the dark matches because he was badly in NXT FCW dark matches

22:40so punk had a very very high opinion of moxley Ambrose's potential to be a big WWE star what young singer on the main you kind of thing around the main you again that fully dropped thing all people talking about online punk was endorsing and then unknown to WWE audiences Dean Ambrose big time big time big time and he wanted rated them so much to not Roman obviously because he didn't want them in the group but he rated Seth Rollins Dean Ambrose so highly that was I want to work with these guys on TV bring them up bring them up bring them up bring them up he's endorsing Ambrose particularly on Twitter and then fast forward to several years later and then you hear about brawl out in the existing tensions between CM Punk and everyone or by the way punk and the shield despise each other when did that happen how did that happen and more as it actually pertains to this podcast do we find out across this WrestleMania build do you think what is it with this punk and the shield guys do you think it's just a build up of the three of them having a

23:42WhatsApp group and then every time just punk does something they don't like they'll like to piss out of them like the moxler with the tweets the tweets the DM's finer under first all mates from John Moxley when punk was it is worse than a w i know but like like what thing is to go from I know it's a punk being a dick backstage in a w i mean breaking news it isn't everyone knows this but it seems very personal I know Seth and considered punk a friend and he idolized punk and he got spurned so I kind of get it from that side but what's the hell happened with the Ambrose thing yeah just punk versus the shield is like a pretty under reported backstage fluid and I've just always been fascinating how do you go from that punk tweet to what happened between because if you knew I think it's individual beasts there's been like a confluence like I don't think a Roman reigns it's not in real life would have ever had like much room for like a lot of respect for a CM punk outside of a brief time working together Seth Rollins feels like the feelings and we're not

24:44saying that in Mockinson genuinely hurt feeling sad work together on the NXT as you see he was like bigging him up for the shield spot and then feeling let down and then gradually binding went to Florida championship wrestling famously on his day off and worked 30 minutes with Dean Ambrose because he loved him so much and he wanted that to get a bit of online buzz yeah what happened there as well because like that something happened in a w sorry when like I know punk would have been doing this for like sort of internet points and I get any terrible for that and I know he does it but I don't think he would have done this particular thing just for points remember the promo he cut in support of moxie when he went to rehab in AWS like I am willing even from a Charlotte and like CM punk I'm willing to buy that like it was important that as a kind of a leader in AWS got those words out to this like company stands on what happens when a guy goes to rehab this is good go and heal I think they're break there that tag much together against FTR and it's quite sweet wasn't it like saying the vibes are off did you because if you go back to punk doing that rehab promo like he said something along the moon do you know I mean John Marx he doesn't always

25:46gotten along but I'll end or something on the same yeah there was no warm like I wasn't that's fair maybe I remember it was an impromptu match so that was one of the reasons why I just liked it intensely while everyone had fun with the super friends it was I it was a case of I am the asshole everyone loves this but I didn't really get much of a cool and I just felt frosty I thought it matches a bit of a clunker looking back I suppose like top star putting heads things I don't know look we can speculate all day what the reasons are I hope we find out throughout this build just to deepen that tension and I'm so you know when we were in those way you're certain there's a story there yeah maybe I just want to know what it is maybe the story is CM punk's a that's what a lot of people in wrestling story is to be honest like I'm not I'm putting I mean a lot of people it did not what people say like even indirectly did not do well off the cabana podcasts in the shield with three of those because you threatened to kind of undermine all their aura by telling the roommate Roman look strong story because it doesn't have to make

26:47Dean Ambrose a Seth Rollins just seem like completely lose their second fiddle wrestlers and all three of them as a unit like they can't even exist without CM punk like the great CM punk kind of Roman did touched on that in his role promo yeah you've got no idea how hard you made my life yeah podcast like that all of them would have felt like round and round of roots like when you when they're just killing time hours and hours at a time and we're like well that dickhead like on a bad night Roman's getting the booze sets struggling Ambrose has got a red wagon and all I do in his chat CM punk you know like early singles push the launch was pretty poor yeah because this Ambrose with a lumberjack did they call it what an Ambrose call it in a promo a human cage what we're doing here the Roman suck day with that terrible baby face themes punk think he could get Mitch the part of plan over you know what about all like he would have been an easy person for the party famously in the shield like throw some digs out and stuff

27:49there's a lot in here and I hope it's explored on tully like six weeks of this basically well how many romant four how many rolls think so yeah what if you want a double check I tell you what'd be great you know if punk I've got the deity if you want yeah thank you I say that confidently but it's back the front because it's American dates a second of today that's today the 16th the 23rd and the 30th and then it looks like the last one is the 13th of April it's a nice spread and it'd be I'd really like it obviously don't want to risk injuries and stuff it'd be a funny device if like CM punk was like working on title matches on every week that Roman reigns wasn't there you know like he's been the the whole story this runner's been kind of working against his own age in his own like sort of like knackered war horse world champion and he's just somebody says oh I want to match against him punk you got it buddy like it's a tune up for me Roman reigns isn't even here like as an added like sort of detail are there the weeks that Roman isn't there and you haven't got this to look for I think they might be I don't know if Roman

Skies vastly increases the quality of it and there's more narrative drama because they become proper friends that proper allies and it's like you know the belt is the belt like or it's this idea of E.O. has got nothing going on in the WrestleMania when she would have fully expected to have been a tag champion if anybody really didn't get pinned it's I think it's in nice health you know what it's a children's television show WWE and at most of the time I think it just doesn't lend itself to any kind of decent analysis because it's a children's television show Michael Humphlet will once again prove me wrong I didn't think of that angle and there is potential to do it in a different strokes different folks you know because I looked at that result and all the rest of it will review the match later of cows and just thought my god road dog has done a terrible job with that Smackdown women's division with terrible absolutely abysmal because there's not a single match really that with Bianca Belair who's not been on Smackdown right so you have to do
