Whitby Council Security Review After Rebel News Incident

0:00Wippy Mayor Elizabeth Roy announced a review of security at Town Hall after an incident late Monday night. Around 11.30 p.m., Durham Police responded to a disturbance involving Rebel News reporter David Menzies and counselor Victoria Bozenkowski. Officers escorted Menzies from the building with no arrest or charges. The clash happened right after a council meeting ended at 11 p.m. Menzies approached Bozenkowski while asking about her past comments on emotion, targeting temporary foreign workers. She described it as threatening harassment while he denied any wrongdoing in a video from his outlet. Several counselors felt shaken, with some escorted out by security and others waiting for police before leaving. Mayor Roy stressed the need for a safe space, especially since Wippy has a female majority council. Female members raised concerns about support and feeling secure at work. Rebel News released footage showing Menzies following Bozenkowski with a microphone during what he called a media scrum.

1:00A security guard intervened multiple times, citing her right to leave without issue. The mayor called the approach aggressive and targeted.
