Have you ever thought about the difference between paying rent and owning a home? When you rent, your monthly payment helps cover the cost of living there, but it usually doesn't build anything for your future. Home ownership is different. Each payment you make on a home may help build equity, which is the value you own in the property over time. At that equity grows, it can become a financial asset that may support your long-term goals. Own in a home can also provide stability. You have a place that shores where you can build memories, establish roots, and truly make the space your own. And the good news is that many people are surprised to learn there are programs designed to help first-time home buyers get started, including grants and assistance programs that may help with downpayments or closing costs. Learning about your options is the first step toward making an informed decision about your future. Visit toolsforhomeownership.com Time now to take a visit to the campus.
Code out of No Rules Friday where everybody's angry at yelling. Loose, mist, the bus. Got some people riding in. Once a QB, he writes in that local college football programs that have missed the bus already, NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina, App State, and ECU. Oh, yeah. I hear you. He said, oh, yeah, I forgot about Charlotte. Charlotte unquestionably missed the bus. They weren't even, they had a problem where they'd slept right through their alarm. They didn't even wake up for the Citadel game. Programs that clearly got on the bus, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson seems to be turning the bus around. Okay. That's a lot. What I would say is, I want to start with North Carolina. North Carolina has a game against Notre Dame this weekend. It's at home. The fighting Irish have maybe the best defense in all of college football. Yes. They are allowing flounder the stat that got you yesterday was the fact that they're allowing
less than 200 yards of game to opposing teams. Yeah, that's pretty tough to find a way to have success offensively for a group that's not in the greatest group. You know, so they've only allowed, I think, 13 points at most. They've barely been allowing anybody to score on them this year. Here's the North Carolina team where you can feel good about North Carolina scoring on the opening drive. The Bobby Petrito script. It's a beautiful thing. Once the script runs out, it's kind of brutal from there on out at least against power five competition. I'll ask you real quickly before we start talking about the whom is the bus stuff. What would be a successful weekend for Carolina? I said it on the podcast yesterday and I'm interested to see if there's people on the text line that would agree with me. It's a sad place to be. But I do think that if you compete the way that Wisconsin competed against them in the first game of the year, where you went into half time and the result was still in doubt.
You said, man, Wisconsin puts together a really good half. Some things break right here, a couple of turnovers from Notre Dame. Wisconsin might be able to pull an upset. That's where I want to be as a Carolina fan. I mean, if you lose this game, there's absolutely no shame in that. Most of all, Notre Dame has always had your number. You're 21 and 2 against them all the time. So it's a long shot to begin with. But what I will say is that if you look serviceable, if you look like you're at least not what last year's team was at certain times where they didn't even remotely compete in games like this, then I think you can leave as a tarry old fan feeling like at least we competed and we now have a chance going into these next couple of weeks because the next couple, the next two games after that, I think, are crucial. If you're making a bowl game, you probably got to get one of those two at Pittsburgh, at Duke, two teams that come into this weekend or actually tonight because Pittsburgh plays
tonight against Virginia Tech, two teams that come into tonight for now. So that's what you want, right? It's just a little bit of hope that my team can find a way to pull one of those upsets on the road. I'd be satisfied with that. 14 point loss. Yeah, oh, I saw it up for that. 14 point losses, what I'm thinking for Carolina, spoiled sportsman to be a little less detailed, be competitive. I think we're probably going to know it when we watch it. We can figure out how successful they are. Maybe it's hanging there in the first half and then get destroyed in the second half type thing. I think if you're able to score, I don't know, 17 points against this defense, they've only allowed 13 at most. And that was in the opener to Wisconsin. They shut out rice, 27, 10 Michigan State, 49, 10 on the road against Purdue. So North Carolina, I mean, I don't know how you want to compare North Carolina to those other programs. I would say probably subway in the mix of all those teams. North Carolina score in 17. Maybe you feel decent about that performance, but they're going to go two and two this weekend.
So if North Carolina loses and they start the year two and two, this is where I'll introduce the, did they miss the bus conversation? Because this is kind of what we expected, right? And if you didn't expect it, then you expected worse. The TCU victory is something I think that is a point in their favor. I had them losing to TCU. It was a rough game. It was an ugly game, but they got the victory and things are just weird in Ireland and week zero. To open up the college football season, weird things happen. The weather is, the weather is also there where you got to deal with the elements. I think getting that victory and then following it up with another one that you had to have, at least you had a decent enough performance in the first half against Clemson. That's one that you got to take advantage of. But at the beginning of the year, Flounder, if I told you you can sign up for two and two right now, I think most North Carolina fans would have taken it. Yes, if you don't give context to what the Clemson game looked like, that's where most people would take it.
I think that's the reason why it would still feel disappointing at two and two because you let an opportunity slip away against Clemson. You were up 17 to three. You were in control of the game. And yet somehow you allowed that Clemson team who I don't think is all that great. I don't think this is a team that's all of a sudden. I know Myron Goodman believes this is a 10 when Clemson football team. I don't see that. And maybe I'm wrong and I'll admit it if I am as we go throughout the season. I mean, yeah, they're, they're win over Cal. That didn't blow me away to the point where I'm now like, oh, they're back in contention in the ACC. Felt like that was a team that Carolina, if they were going, if they're going to make a bowl game, probably should have beaten. The other thing is is that you look at the rest of the schedule. And we thought Pittsburgh would be good this season. I don't know if we thought they would be undefeated and rolling the way that they are. I mean, their quarterback has two games of six plus touchdowns already to begin the year. He's in a groove, man.
And then Duke, we thought maybe, maybe they don't look that great. No, they were going to run the football, but maybe Walker, E get struggles. That's a team that should be ranked based off of what we've seen so far this year. So those teams are better. There's other teams on the back half of the schedule that might be a little worse than we thought. But how many of those games are winnable? That's where I think people will still be a little down if Carolina is two and two, it should be what you expect if you're rolling out to Kenan Stadium or turning on your TV. I think it's Saturday. I think it's too much to say that they've missed the bus entirely. I think this is still a team where I have my doubts. I had my doubts to be completely fair. After the victory they had against TCU. I thought that was an ugly game. I thought Billy Edwards missed a lot of contested receivers that had a cornerback within a yard of them. Billy Edwards would miss fire. If they were wide open, then he would go to the exact spots that Bobby Patrino would tell him to go. And I think you got to see some athletes on display a little. Thurman looks like the real deal after it's just not working out for him previously.
He looks like the real deal on some of these play action, tied in screenplays where you just allow him to pick up a bunch of yaks. Like there are ways that they can manufacture some yards running game a little bit better against Clemson. Even if the yards per carry were an amazing, they still were able to run the ball effectively until a certain point. It's not going to happen against Notre Dame. I don't think that we're going to learn a whole lot about North Carolina. The next few games that they have, you're talking Pittsburgh, Duke, Syracuse, Miami, right. I think that stretch is a stretch where we'll figure out a little more about what North Carolina is all about. They didn't miss the bus though. NC State did no doubt about it. NC State losing that badly to Virginia, automatically disappointing start to the season. I mean, about as bad as you could possibly think would have about a bad situation as you could guess for what was going to happen against Virginia for NC State. To have CJ Bayley run around for his life, and then I think compounding some of those mistakes with the pressure that the offensive line was giving up
by fumbling the football almost multiple times, turning it over. He just was missing guys too. That was a bad performance. And then of course, what happened with Vanderbilt? You have a nasty loss to Virginia and a nasty loss in an entirely different way to Vanderbilt. And even the win against App State, the tenor of the press conference led Dave Doran after the fact to say, Hey guys, you remember we won this game, right? Just want to let you all know. NC State, they missed it. They got to get their mom to drive him to school. Right? Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah. I didn't realize you were down there. I would say here's what's interesting. I think they missed the bus. Their mom is not driving them to school. They are running after the school bus. And we're going to see if they actually can catch it at the next stop. Because they have a game at home against Louisville, which what do we say yesterday? Three and a half point favorite is Louisville. Three, three and a half somewhere in that range. That's not a game that's unwinnable for them. We're not saying absolutely no way they're winning that game.
It's possible. Then they got Wake Forest. And with Wake Forest, I mean, look, I'm not going to say what West would be mad at me. But you can't guarantee that Wake Forest is just going to win games. Like you can at this point with Miami. So I think Wake's got to come into every game ready for a fight, especially on the road at NC State. You know, it is a rivalry. I don't know if it's as hostile as some of the other ones in the state, but it's still a rivalry. So it is going to be one of those games that they've got to be prepared for. If they can find a way, even to win one of these next two, then I feel like you could say they've caught the school bus. There's potential that they'll be getting back on. But yeah, so far, yeah, you you you missed the bus because the expectations were so high for you. If you've lost to Virginia by five, I don't know why I said that. Three probably would have made a little more sense. It's football for sure. If you lost by three, I think this this answer is no, they didn't miss the bus.
But you got blown out. And then it's the way that you lost to Vanderbilt where you had the game in your hands and said, here, we don't want it. Take it. Unbelievable loss. That's what I think has you saying right now. They've missed it. Yeah, no one expected that to happen at the end of that game. It's still unfathomable. That NC state is not what everyone wants to want. I'm sure it does. Big Hat Dan writing it about his Clemson Tigers saying, and yeah, I've come around him at Tigers. It's the growth on offense, the defense. They have me hopeful. Go Tigers, ugly win. I don't care. I think that's fine. They've allowed you to conjure up some hope for this season. I also cannot tell you that they're finally riding to school. But that's not happening for Clemson as it stands currently. They might be able to figure some stuff out as we move on. I think unlike North Carolina, where I don't think we're going to learn a whole lot about them, I think they're going to get destroyed. And I think that's probably what should happen. It won't be an indictment on how I feel the rest of the season is going to go. For Clemson, I think if you're competitive against Miami,
that will tell me a decent amount. I think there's a chance of that happening because there still is a little respect that you have to have for Clemson, based on Davo and everything that he's accomplished. All that to say, I told you in ball and her fallen. I think Miami's going to cover. I don't believe in Clemson. And at that point, if they get beat again by a good college football program to the tune of a 30 burger, like something like that, then what are we doing, man? Clemson is not in the business of pounding their chest after getting victories over North Carolina barely. And a bad Cal team. So if you lay a stinker out there against Miami, I'm not going to be applauding them saying Clemson's back. Watch out. Yeah, they're, look, they're on the bus, but they're next to the kid that forgot to apply the odor in this morning. Okay. It's one of the, it's one of the less attractive seats. Maybe the least attractive seat on the bus. They may honestly want to get up and leave at some point. I think we will find out. It's, it's weird to say we're going to find out a lot about them because I mean,
there are, if they lose this game to Miami, no one, I think, is going to have an issue with that. And say, oh, this just means that Clemson's a bad football team. But you're right. It's a weird spot to be in with where Clemson has been under Davos Sweeney at times previously. But you're in one of those states where just don't get destroyed like you did in the season opener against LSU. The thing that would make this even worse is if you get beat down like that, that was at least on the road. That's a pretty cranked up environment. First game for Lane Kiffin. You can make some, I'm not even saying excuses, but there are some reasons why that performance could have played out the way that it did. You lose this game at home. Your fans pretty excited probably for this game. First time in a while that they've been excited for a game like this. They're, they're feeling like they've got a chance. You come out and just completely lay an egg. That's going to take a lot of steam out of what Clemson's going to be for the rest of the year. Yeah, and I probably should clear it up a little more. Of course, if you get beat down by Miami, nobody's going to praise Clemson for it.
I look, I think if they're competitive enough against Miami, then you might still have some belief that they can turn things around a little bit. But nobody's going to buy all the way into Clemson being what we thought they would be at the beginning of the year, right? Like these aren't these aren't victories that are real pretty like the typical Clemson. People love to say how much they appreciate an ugly win and a win is a win. I get it. It all counts the same in the standings and all counts for the same in the box score. Also, it doesn't lead you to believe in that team as much as you would for Miami. Who is destroying everybody? And there's a reason that the pretty wins are pretty and we buy into those types of teams a little more, right? Ugly wins are great. Pretty wins allow you to be a top 10 college football team. And that's not what's happening with Clemson.
