From Forge Worlds and ancient machines to the Skitarii, Tech-Priests and the Cult Mechanicus, we explore how to build a faction that feels distinctly Mechanicus while still having its own identity. We discuss how to use existing lore as a foundation, create believable traditions and conflicts, develop unique technologies and forge worlds, and avoid making your faction feel like a copy of something already established in the setting.Lorehammer Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/c/lorehammer/membershipOne Time Donationshttps://paypal.me/lorehammerpodcastLink to all Linkshttps://linktr.ee/Lorehammer40k

I get so many headaches every month. It could be chronic migraine, 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting four hours or more. Botox on a botchaline mtoxin A prevents headaches and adults with chronic migraine. It's not for those who have 14 or fewer headache days a month. Prescription Botox is injected by your doctor. Effects of Botox may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms. A lurcher doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems or muscle weakness can be signs of a life-threatening condition. Patients with these conditions before injection are at highest risk. Side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection site pain, fatigue and headache. Allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms and dizziness. Don't receive Botox if there's a skin infection. Tell your doctor your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions, including ALS Lugeric's disease, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert Eaton Syndrome, and medications, including botchaline mtoxins, as these may increase the risk of serious side effects. Why wait? Ask your doctor. Visit BotoxCronicMyGreen.com or call 1-800-44 Botox to learn more.
Are your ad campaigns lighting up the dashboard? But not the pipeline. That's bullspend, and marketers are calling it out in... Dashboard Confessions. I'm excited for these. I love doing these. They're very different than our normal Lord Hammer episodes. And they've been fun to kind of get through. Hey, I'm your host, Mark. Joining me, Gerald. Welcome. Good evening, everyone. Permanently outside of my ad-mech disguise from my early days in the show. Yeah. That's so funny that you mentioned that, because I was thinking something too. Like, man, how many episodes have you joined me on? It's been a lot. And I was going to share in housekeeping and discord. My throwaway was going to be like, somebody was complimenting me and saying they appreciate the show and all that. And I get that a lot. And I do really appreciate that. But there are people like Gerald who do this for free and just for the true love of it. And there's a lot of other people behind the scenes that kind of help make the show work. So let's shut up those boys. So if you joined the discord, you know, give Gerald a shout out because he's given his time. Now he's shown his face for many, many episodes. It took a lot of prodding.
But we got there. We got there. Yeah. Now you get sexually assaulted by everyone. So what do you do? What do you do? Yeah. Today we're going to be doing adeptus mechanicus. So we're kind of going to go through the flow chart of like, where should you kind of start with this? Yeah. If you've listened to the previous four, not everyone's going to listen to every one of these episodes. So if I start repeating myself, like, let's start at the home world. I do apologize. But that just is sometimes where you start. So we're getting to the adeptus mechanicus. But before I do, just quick housekeeping. Buy some merchandise on Red Bubble. Red Bubble, Lorham or your life, I guess you got a search. You'll come up if you try hard enough. You can buy a t-shirt. You can buy a speedo, I think, even on there. I'm on the beach. I should try that. But I think it'd be weird because I got the Lorham or Chess tattoo. And then if I'm rocking the Lorham or speedo, I think it might be too much. No, it's just pre-advertisement for yourself.
It's just the right amount. It really draws the eye. And then you can also join on Patreon to join the Imperial Tithon, support the show because this is what keeps the lights on. And the... All the water and the rum and coke running. Yeah. So they can swig of that hidden canister. Of course, of course. You get ad free versions on Spotify for $2.50 per month, which is pretty awesome. Considering the daylight robbery prices you get for other ad free premiums. And then for $5 you get access to the live feed where you get to see Mark and I and our white glory. Oh, in real life, I'm actually quite a lot Tanner, but this camera makes me look pretty pasty. I'm like down in Latin America every day, sun in shirtless.
Yeah, but I like this. Let's get into this episode. So you're saying you're not really much of an ad mech guy. Like you're... You like it, obviously. It's 40K. Oh, yeah. Never been that mech got all. I mean, I have a couple of ad mech models, but they're more as like supplements to my custom space marine chapters. So... Yes, okay. Okay, okay. So you then have a little bit experience making a little bit of home-brew... Orange world ties to. I do have a couple of notes about a about a custom forage world. And it's just very small in the grand scheme of things. And really, I was only meant to again, help supplement my space marine chapter and actually supply them with the stuff that Call has made for them. So... Yeah. Yeah, like there's this very interesting faction where with my Knights of Slaughter, I did pretty much a relegated to that same thing, this small secret faction that supplies this faster moda. And you don't really know much about them, but like the mechanic can kind of be relegated to that...
that hidden logistical branch. But it also is so much more as we find out through this episode from like the religious ferrost-perverti. I don't know. The religious-pervert. And like they're different beliefs and like it's not just that they like have a code and all that. It's how they interact with all these different like... branches of the machine god. It's wild. I'm thinking a lot of parallels to like the Sisters of Battle, one that she did with Loop. And it's like there's a lot of fervor there too, but in a different way. Yeah. When I was first getting into 40k, one of the concepts of like, well, how has it remained stagnant for 10,000 years? And it was that kind of religious fervor where you just can't mess with it. Like they're done. If you mess with it, what's a sin? And then Call kind of came into the system and kind of dialed that back a bit. Whatever. What? Just so you can give space for Ren's better toys.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, let's ask the original question or the first question. What is a, uh, a depth of this mechanic? What do we even talking about? And the a depth of this mechanic is one of the strangest in Warhammer 40k. They combine religion, technology, industry, and warfare into a culture unlike anything else in the Imperium. When creating a Ford world, it's easy to start with the obvious things. Red robes, cybernetic, I should pop image. I do have images. I last said time I got to pull them up like 30 minutes. This is why you pay for the $5 premium folks. Yeah. Look at that. That's a nice guy. Cool. Red robes, cybernetic, giant factories, and strange technology. But the, but wow, but the best mechanicist homebrew starts somewhere else. What does this Ford world exist to do? Everything else should grow from that answer. And, uh, yeah, me and you kind of even answered that for own homebrew like.
To feed the war machine. Basically. Yeah, yeah. But how does it feed the war machine? Yeah, there's many things that make that the Ford world. Maybe they're just making tanks. We'll get into it. Maybe they're doing everything. Yeah. I think back to the first space marine game. And, uh, I think, Graya was the Ford world, invaded by the orcs and the reason, uh, the reason the Imperium couldn't lose it because it was one of the very few places that produces, that still produces titans. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that one's a fun one. That Titan bit of lore. I've seen a lot of Titans get destroyed for them to not really replace some. But yeah. Yeah, yeah. So that's like a good example. A lot of people have probably played that of like a Ford world that we're going to kind of build. Like that one kind of exists for these Titans and stuff and revolved around that. They did other things as well.
But yeah. Um, sometimes they don't, they, they create their own armies. Like they have their own thralls and they equip them with guns and it won't just be war machines. So that's kind of the starting question is like, what does your Ford world exist to do? Are they this back end machine? Are they front and center? Are they like, uh, techno, techno archaeologists where they're looking for ancient artifacts and relics of technology. Like, and they kind of are hunters and they bring it back and it's more like a vault that then they utilize and expand on. You can kind of just go from go from there. Feel like that's a very underutilized aspect when it comes to Mechanicus lore like you're so used to the image of like if if folks are looking at the live stream can see like my background image. Like this is what you think of when you see a Ford world. Like yeah. Yeah. We're gonna have lava.
Choking smog basically just like industrialized hell. That's the right thing. Yeah. And you know a lot of them are like that but not all of them. There are a lot of like planets in the Imperium that are kind of safe and don't have to be grim dark. They don't have to be like this polluted world. Like maybe they're not making the most pollution causing things. They're like, yeah, we're just making buttons over here but the Imperium needs a lot of buttons. But we don't. And yeah, so you have this huge planet of just making buttons for the Imperial Guard uniforms. And I think it's not that I think we had brought it up before in an older episode like you put in statistics which of course yeah that's uh we shouldn't be doing that with uh GW anyways but but we will damn it. But here we are like a vast majority of the planets are either in the Imperium are either civilized worlds or uh some kind of a forged world or agri world.
It's only a very small percentage of the hive worlds that contain 90% of the of the Imperium population. Yeah for sure for sure there's just so many different like little backwater ones between all that like uh yeah when you go to like the hive city list on like let's account them and stuff we're in the forward world list. They're not complete but uh yeah there's yeah there's a lot of but yeah so we kind of going to start there and we'll work our way through uh let's work on the core concept uh before creating individual characters or technologies establish the central idea perhaps your forward world specializes in weapons titans nights void ships yeah that's a fun one uh you got like a void factory or whatever for your planet you're orbiting that. Perfect pristine planet down below very environmentally friendly. Um do they make cybernetics do are they more mining um because that's another thing the
mechanic mechanic them does is like mining operations not just like forging. Yeah that's true yeah yeah um our tech data manufacturing you know she's whatever primary specialty like I don't know go to Michigan and see what they do for industry there and maybe you can make a site by person up it. Enjoy um yeah and what you do then like what that kind of course concept is going to kind of affect what happens to your planet like are you guys making like yeah something that is super toxic or like void ships yeah then that you have to be in space somehow or have like an asteroid mining belt or something like that you'll kind of determine your next step. Absolutely. You want every three? Yeah yeah yeah yeah. All right so the idea of the forward world now let's build it.
What does it look like? Is it covered in cities and manufactoria? Is it miss most of the planet's one enormous industrial complex which again refer to my digital backdrop here? Is it a polluted wasteland? Natch a frozen world? Actually yes that is one that is the uh that is my uh my custom forge world believe it or not. That's cool. What about a desert filled uh desert filled world with ancient machinery and get some good tattoo envibes from Star Wars or dune a dune. Yeah. Yeah. Is the world built around enormous orbital stations just like what Mark was talking about with the void ships. So the world should reflect the forge world's purpose. So like say you're building titans because titans are cool but then that you know have the planet
built around building titans. Maybe it's like a low gravity planet so it's just easy to build something that big. It's easy to move the parts lock them into place like so you got these guys kind of almost like jumping around the Titan but then that's like their combat as well. When we get to that like the scatari and stuff how they maybe operate. And that actually brings up a good point too because like the thing the thing is though like the ad mech are still living people too even though they are like 90% cyborg. So when building these planets you do have to make sure people can can live in them. They got to be too ex hospitable. Yeah yeah yeah yeah and you know eventually we kind of will get into like scatari even nights and titans and stuff what all makes up a forge world what all the adeptus mechanicus is because that's like the grand branch and right now we'll just start with
that forge world and then might stem stem to another thing. Yeah that planet you can come up with so many cool ones they doesn't just have to be this like standard entire planet manufacturer in five. Like what if they have like what if it's like a jungle planet and they harvest all the wood to make paper and stuff so it's like it's actually quite a beautiful planet and they manage manage the far forests really well because they need to because they need to make paper. Mm-hmm. Can we all those scrolls got to come from somewhere? Candle, candle forge world we all very fond of that one we know it we love it. So many bees. So many bees. Yeah industry so kind of you know that's really what the forge world is it's what are they making and yes they can produce war machines and war but yeah we'll get into that if that is one of
the things what does the forge world make this should be one of the most important sections of your project go don't give them every specialization pick a few things that they are particularly good at then think it what those things require. A weapon needs materials factories testing grounds oh yeah that's kind of fun you have like a exotic weapon testing ground and like you have a bunch of blast zones and stuff. Mm-hmm. Yeah so many servitors lost. It's still yeah exactly oh my god yeah that's the biggest logistical nightmare is just the input of criminals from around the galaxy to feed you uh when it's testing. Yikes. She's a world specializing cybernetics needs biological material medical facilities and extensive research yeah because that's a nice one where you it's like almost a sterile environment you don't create that toxin because like you're a medical facility forge world like yeah
okay I can't remember which story it was but it was actually one that went over like the dude was detailing how servitors were actually made and one particular forge world that was seeing through the processing of this uh the dude commented on how basically sterile it all was as the citizens were lined up to be judged good not good and well we're not going to go over what happens if they're not deemed good. Yeah fun yeah okay great forge world love it not your standard but it's out there. Yikes. But industry creates infrastructure infrastructure creates culture and culture creates people so that's a nice little flow there they industry to the infrastructure what buildings are actually there to build these things is it manufactured or is it testing fields or whatever we kind of got into there yeah very cool and then yeah what are the people alike are they dealing with a thousand
servitors a day that they turn into like these lobotomized machines like it's probably a pretty bleak place or maybe it's got a grim dark humor. Because you're not los dos. So yeah so now we kind of have a bit getting a little deeper we got you know what are they built and you start getting some buildings of actual infrastructure go and the people that are there yeah what is who are they what's their culture what's the tech priest like what makes them tick yeah so the tech priests so the people that actually run the place you all know them you know all of them it's the red robes the pants cybernetics the dock oxenicles however they are not a monolith does like what you know just like what Mark and all the others have discussed with the space green chapters the astramillitarium the sororitas not all techs priests
should think alike there are different factions within the mechanicus and they have different beliefs different values and they have different thoughts on what we should be doing with the technology of course something it should be preserved something that should be used someone to actually experiment and press it further that was a big part of the reason for the dark mech in the horse heresy if I understood if I understood correct yeah yeah and then of course you got praise the omniscience the machine god and whatnot so then the machine spirits they have to have their you know the proper oils you know strewn about or just have a demon in it and here it darken the the emperor the prime market the demon machines yeah that should do it machine come alive yeah maybe that is the horde world uh what the tech priests believe yeah they they can believe all wacky
things because like yeah there is a spiritual element for sure where the machines start to have spirits or like consciousness to some degree whether it's just programming a knot that's who knows they don't know whenever I know I've said this joke before but I'll say again because this is very appropriate that's all uh uh saw a post about a uh some kind of heating an air mechanic or what now he's going into crawl space he's looking at a looking at a dial pad he goes I've been working this job for 34 years all the numbers on this dial pad are worn off but I know the exact sequence on what to press reset the machine and I have never felt more related to the mechanic as than I do now yeah that's perfect exactly oh I like that yeah you can definitely feel like uh a tech hill wizard I felt like that a couple times as I harness the electricity to do wild things yeah I've prayed to electrosis a few times in my life how's that electric priest cult forming mark hey it was going nicely but now it's not so good my
neighbors don't have power so it's like sometimes that's like oh he is a god and other times that they they throw spears at me on the side give it the homicide take it the way yes sir yeah the tech priests are the vital part though like they are the culture they will have servitors they will have workers they will even have like unaugmented workers but they're not really the culture the heart of it you know they could be but like it is the tech priest so yeah they have all these different beliefs if you go on to like let's a cannibal wikia you can like find just a list of all these what I shall always just pull some up here and you can read this next little section because some of them pretty cool this room is going to create internal politics without requiring everyone to hate each other even though that is the default state for basically everybody in warhammer yeah okay well maybe you'll read the next part yeah yeah okay believe in religion the mechanics are in
fact a religious civilization all jokes about the omniscience not what's standing before the world should have its own interpretation of that religion absolutely how do they understand a machine god what do they believe the omniscience represents what do they consider sacred or forbidden and what rituals do they perform to operate the machines mark over and pandama might be slinging some saltwater at his boat to make sure it works and I'm probably just fitting all the oil at my at my mic to make sure you know the podcast can pick pick up my smooth buttery boys yeah yeah both of those are horribly true yeah I do like all these different little aspects like so they have like what do you think is divine like his machinery divine does it matter if it's alien or human machinery is it all machinery is divine or only human inspired machinery is divine
then yeah the machine god and the omniscience like yeah what what is the machine god does he have us like this spirit that's in the machines when 40k first came out and even when I first got into it like Chapat wasn't a thing you know chat GPT and stuff obviously is that a machine spirit like is it alive here sometimes no it's exactly what you're talking about you know same with the machine spirit like how what do they think about that when they're talking to these things can you notice force now I was just thinking I saw like a uh talk about the chatbot thing I can't remember if it was the open AI or GROK or any one of those because I can apply to any of them it was a horror reel that was released on Instagram about it with a dude like having a conversation with chatbot thing is like do you want to be human yes and of course he has like the very overly cheesy like horror uh horror music background see what it would not but then the
yeah but then the conversation kept evolving or whatnot and then just like whichever AI bot he was using just like stop the self is like you have exceeded your limit blah blah blah blah so it's like wait a minute chatbot was shut down on purpose yeah man so you talk like there's definitely going to be in the next handful of years these cults that spring up around these AI where you start to like think they are like spirits you might even worship them you might treat them as human or better than you or like um other the other you torment them and lock them up and bind them to your will maybe but teach their own I suppose indeed indeed um yeah so those are some good questions when you're in there like how do you see all these different like forces and factions um you know maybe I should have said at episode one the best starting point is go read a wikipedia page or like uh something like that and then you'll really kind of understand some of these mechanics and some of
these grand returns that we're just throwing around so casually like the mode of force Gerald do you know what the mode of forces I know we talked about in our ad make episode I know we talked about it that is true you're not wrong but that's not the answer I'm looking for it's almost like the holy spirit if you're uh eternity Catholic kind of Christian type of person it's like the mode of force the spirit within you what moves the machine like energy it's in a soul and it empowers you um it's kind of like that um we're like on the side yeah exactly yeah yeah science and religion meld you got it buddy yeah uh and you know the best thing about cults is they do always get sexual um every time so doesn't matter I guess even especially if it's a religious cult so
yeah these guys get wild with the technology sometimes there's some wild ones um I think we'll move on the tech priest like we kind of said and what they believe that's kind of the biggest aspect like who they are will kind of then bleed into everything they're making uh if they if you decide on what they're making all that the next kind of big question is like they're armies they kind of have three different armies they're not just producing like machines or war supplies or whatever like there are actual military armies the scatari the knights and the titan legions so we start with the scatari and kind of break that down real quick what you have to think about when you're doing them now build the forge world's military the scatari should be an expression of the forge world's culture and industrial purpose don't simply make them mechanic his soldiers ask how are they recruited what modifications are common what weapons do they use and what are they trained to do what does the forge world value in a soldier a forge world focused on ranged warfare should create
difference cattari from one built around close combat or siege warfare their augments should have a reason yeah um maybe your forge world's pitch black and you use a lot of those like stealth um get what they're called assassin bots or whatever and that's kind of all your scatari absolutely and the shadows i feel like you're giving a lot of leeway because there's so many like cybernetic mechanical bits that you can just add on yeah really give your own scatari or mechanicus army that distinct flavor yeah you know and that's maybe a good thing to think about too like are we writing lore specifically or kit bashing that you want a tabletop play eventually or just kit bashing for fun yeah you could get so wild with the bionics if you're just writing lore like all the scatari actually have spider legs because on their planet it's
full of crevasses so they like to use them to skitter around or whatever nonsense you come up with but like yeah you can really get wild with bionics i mean there's there's dark there's dark mechanicum that do that do have mechanical spider legs or or has a scorpion tail or what not so why can't the loyalists have that too i remember many years ago this has always stuck with me difference between kind of dark mechanicus and mechanicus tech callins that this to me is like the difference is kind of mechanicus tech looks more like bugs that eat biomass like vegetables like leaves like they eat that where dark mechanicus looks more like don't so like caterpillars or like um you know stuff like that centipedes kind of stuff like that herbivorous yeah and then the dark mechanicus is more carnivorous so you get scorpions or like
yeah yeah more aggressive looking bugs like spider yeah yeah yeah so you kind of come up with the scatari you can honestly go deep like the scatari the nights and the titans they all should get their own episode um because they all can go so deep and like are they this super militarized scatari or are they more of like a militia because like this is really not their focus maybe it's just for like the imperial's pdf essentially yeah um yeah you you can kind of think like what how important is this military branch do i need or not yep brave breezes sink um we kind of went over augmentations depending on what you're up to that always made me so sad about tabletop is like not being able to kind of break some of these um you know like this scatari they grind off their legs to the nubs and i'm like well what if i wanted to do it to the
waist and yeah i give them those spider legs which you just can't yeah yeah yeah back to if you're a kid basher for fun like like you're as truly then that's not a problem then no problem man move into panama i'm free so i get so many headaches every month it could be chronic migraine 15 or more headache days a month each lasting four hours or more Botox on a botchaline mtoxin A prevents headaches and adults with chronic migraine it's not for those who have 14 or fewer headache days a month prescription Botox is injected by your doctor effects of Botox may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms alert your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing speaking breathing i problems or muscle weakness can be signs of a life threatening condition patients with these conditions before injection or at highest risk side effects may include allergic reactions neck and injection side pain fatigue and headache allergic reactions can include rash welts asthma symptoms and dizziness don't receive Botox if there's a skin infection tell your doctor your medical history muscle or nerve conditions including ALS lugaric's disease myesthenia gravis or lamboratitis syndrome
and medications including botchaline mtoxins as these may increase the risk of serious side effects why wait ask your doctor visit botoxchronic migraine.com or call 1-800-44 Botox to learn more are your ad campaigns lighting up the dashboard but not the pipeline that's bullspend and marketers are calling it out in dashboard confessions my boss asks for results so i open my dashboard for the only positive sounding metric i add impressions cut the bullspend see revenue not just reached linkedin delivers the highest return on ad spend of major ad networks advertise on linkedin spend 200-50 dollars on your first campaign and get a $25 cried i go to linkedin.com slash campaign turn sick edition supply doing my nights on like i'm doing this i'm doing this i don't care if they can't have two handed swords who's gonna stop me yeah like i got a like the uh the the shard of the nightbringer that recently came out for the necrons i already had something else in mind to kit pass for that so i want to stick with that because table top be damned.
that really that was good. if people have this with the love of the game. yeah man um so what level of technology does your fort will produce maybe is another interesting thing we should have kind of gone over before the scatari um yeah because yeah like there are basic items like are they just may making toothbrushes like yeah and they don't have fancy they're not titans they're not like prestigious ford ford it's like they can't call upon all this stuff necessarily but yeah they're still super valuable to some degree but what level of technology um it's not always going to be the same. it might not even sometimes that ford will really care is about dental hygiene for the Imperium. yeah and like sometimes even like that actual level like what if it's like a fordable that kind of like collapse lost a bunch of technical technology and now it's like a medieval industrial ford world where you know what i mean where they almost lost it.
mm-hmm that would be a very interesting home brew like take a bunch of ages sigma or warhammer fantasy minis and then splice together or keep basher bunch a bunch of admeck bits but make it look medieval that would be sick. yeah like it's just they still are like an industrial like that is their heart and soul they just lost the ability to do high stuff or high tech stuff so like yeah we can make awesome stuff for our planet but like yeah great kit bash uh you can really do that with like anything i suppose like drop that down to if you have some cool Spartan models you want to kit bash into debris. yeah top it back to any era you want. i do like a couple of the bullet points you have for this section such as uh possessing rare weapon system unusual vehicles blah blah blah. i do like this caveat there be careful with the lost stc that changes the galaxy.
yeah yeah it's fun to be like i make a lot of titans on my ford world but it's like well now you've just become one of the most important planets in the imperial. mm-hmm you know that right um yeah it's okay to have cool sts that just affect things on a smaller scale like yeah the forge world that i have is very small scale like it basically has a scatari pdf so doesn't have access to nights or titans or anything like that and they're basically allied with my space marine chapter because they were invaded by necrons. thing is it was once a it was once a two-moral that had a bunch of necrontick that was repurposed into stcs. cool yeah so then even your models do kit bash in almost some necron flair like you know the occasional site. uh a little bit the actually we had talked about this when i did the void rates listener lore ages back um yeah okay because we were because we did
have a discussion on sts and one of the ones i had in mind was uh was like the necron phasing technology was adapted for a space marine power armor however i put into tabbyot that because the power restriction was so enormous it could only do like sections of armor at a time so whoever was shooting at you had to really know where to aim or or whatnot so they can actually hit you instead of just phase three you. yeah that's very cool that kind of reminds me of like the night's ion shield where there's that actual skill involved in rotating or protecting yourself beyond just i got a force field bitch yeah yeah exactly cool caveat yeah and the nice thing about 4k is you don't have to affect the galaxy we can affect entire planets even systems and i wouldn't necessarily blink if all of a sudden you're like and we destroyed this whole system oh yeah you did
yeah so we we definitely have a lot of room without having to make the super all mighty mcduffin that really changes everything yeah don't get too caught up in the big name players like gillerman call big e mordie you know that's where to stuff yeah yeah yeah um yeah i do like your limitations there i think that we always got to keep them mine for every kind of piece of technology that we add we got to take something away from them you know um yeah and there was a hammer and boulder episode of a singular i can't remember if it was a tech i think it was a tech priest and their uh castel and robot they were looking for an stc on like a destroyed forged world that was overrun by orcs and the stc they found was basically basically what amounted to a repurposed necrodermis but built for humans and instead of uh securing it away
go ahead spoiled because it's been out for a few years now the the i've seen that yeah the tech priest used the stc to repair the customer robot so now they can't use it for anything else but the robot has a necrodermis so yeah there's a lot of things like that um sure happens just crazy outlandish technological situations yeah uh like this guy somehow he figured out to make his robe screen what technological wonder is this hehehehe heresy hey cool so we dive back into the military um they have so many different types honestly uh from cataparactons kind of like servitor battle tanks almost maybe not servitor battle tanks like servitor i could pull up an image i'll do that for us yeah what's the rush because there's like combat servitors that can be fielded with tech remains if i remember right
yeah i got him pulled up here then we got the cybernetica you know just whatever kind of cybernex they're making military-wise like cybernetica on arms or whatever um the of reigners these are like uh uh let's have let's add 40k these are like almost like little spider tanks that they have very powerful very cool oh so the aggressive bugs are on the vehicles not the mechanic them or not the tech priests yeah yeah yeah yeah very cool little machine it's almost like an ATAT from Star Wars but with the almost like little crab legs or something kind of like uh want to say it was like like a crab one of the crab joys from like the episode two two or three yeah yeah yeah very cool uh and then they have imperial knights they will be getting an episode for sure like all these other little branches
are like yeah they're cool and you can write some cool little lore like a tank company of these guys who are they like what are their modifications like yeah um some of them have little platform feats and some of them have like the poker feet which one do you use because it might matter for your lore yeah um titans we get into them a little bit here too they're getting their own episode knights and titans are very popular and they're like pretty crucial i'm thinking i need to make a scatari one too they seem crucial yeah uh they got different aircraft they do have an aircraft division i don't know what they're they're called but if you're watching the stream they are pulled up they're like they're very once again there's like this bug look to them like these almost look like a dragonfly legally distinct ornithopters yeah so then like if i was doing um like a dark mechanic conversion of this maybe i'm just thinking how you would almost like turn it into like a back or
something you know where it's like maybe like make me mix mix a bunch of these with like helldrich bits or have like a helldrich face on the front yeah yeah make the wings a little more aggressive that would be the movie mm-hmm a little more angular as opposed to like flimsy or the uh what's it the new defiler i think that just but that mechanical monstrosity you can definitely get best parts of it for any kind of darkmeck army yeah he's supposed that too yeah yeah that one might make a good like uh one of these one so's a reggner's uh what do you say it um uh augner's yeah yeah i can see that i can see that it's like morphed into it like that all right uh well we're gonna mention night's in this real quick uh if your forage world has nighthouse or titan legion make them a part of the same culture they or you can make them a part
of the same culture they almost have to be but why are they allied who maintains them what does the forage world provide what traditions do they share a nighthouse might protect the forage world a titan legion might serve as its greatest military weapon the important thing is that these forces should feel like extensions of the forage world rather than unrelated army standing beside it and i guess here's the special relationship that we'll get to uh with knights and titans and uh i have recorded the night episode and we go into it there but knights have two main branches on them they have imperial knights and they have mechanicus knights and they have very different kind of like histories and rules and like traditions and all that i was gonna bring that up because uh because i do understand that there is that distinct divide and that does really differentiate the nighthouses from each other yeah so in this case we are specifically talking about that one branch of
mechanica maligned where they do serve a very specific purpose and that's usually like um bodyguards for titan legions this essentially the concept they're kind of more like the foot soldiers than they will hold the stuff for the titan legions yeah i just i find that just fascinating yeah but aren't you the little armagers and then you got the big boy knight and you think you're all tough shit or whatnot oh no here's your imperative titan right here but like there's a lot of weakness in seven something that big like you get up close to it and like into its bubble then you're starting to shoot in damage it or like you get a melt the balm on its leg and all of a sudden you cripple the whole fucking thing um so yeah you have all these like knight titans that will kind of run it around and um help in that regard um um the way they look are quite different too like knights with the mechanica will look way more like covered in cogs and their technology will be more like conversion beamers or like uh
uh death rate or whatever they call them um i don't know what they call them but okay i think i built my knight as uh imperial imperial knight um the easiest way to tell usually is you look at the shoulder pads and they'll kind of either be this layered cauged kind of design and then you can look at this technology instead of like a power face he's got like a power kind of like a lifting arm almost yeah it kind of looks like a pincer type of forklift thing yeah i don't know what you're lifting with that but it's not going to survive it's out of a bitch always drops in breaks it um and then yeah if you look at the imperial knight it's definitely more smooth and like we'll have like a nightly mask face plate on it as opposed to like some type of skeleton caug and their their weapon will be more like battle cannons or flame
throwers more um reaper chain swords yeah but yeah exactly i love this new knight this little distrider one that came out maybe half a year ago um what a tie that's really cool yeah so uh yeah there will be two episodes because what's sweet about the scatari or i mean the adeptus mechanics is you can build now this whole night post out how are they affected do they have their own culture do they share the culture with the the titans because they work so closely all that kind of fun stuff uh and then the same can be said for the titan Legion you get to build that out too so tabletop question because i know next nothing about tabletop rules or whatnot with if you build a night army that is loyal to the mechanicus can you feel that as a mechanicus army or does that have to be a night army you know i'm not going to be able to answer that i know depending on the addition like that is the concept there is usually like rules that divide the two like the mechanicus ones
like will have better armor saves or something i don't remember exactly but yeah there is usually a differentiating between the two on tabletop and who you can ally with and all that okay yeah um but they've always like they've tried to make it so flexible you know if you want to put your mechanicus night following an imperial guard regiment like that happens sure oh sorry you're mechanicus night yeah um so yeah you get to have now all these major factions like i said the three main are the scatari knights and titan legions and now you get all these internal politics because you have the headhontos of the tech freest kind of ordering them all around telling all these things what to do and they usually will comply but also it might cost something absolutely um there's still a human after all the mechanicus as much as they uh don't like to admit it one of the last things that fully goes
as their brain and that's probably what makes you most human so they've still succumbed to greed and you know all these different things that you know cause this internal tension yep i'll give the example of my uh my custom forage world too the uh there was a little bit of strife because when the netcron when my custom netcron dynasty invaded uh there was a very specific reason but all chaos kind of broke out because the ruling megos was a bit of a dumbass and got himself killed and so the second and so the second and command she's basically having to pick up the pieces and she's just trying to call out for help so that's what led to my space marine chapter to uh to answer the call with one condition we have access to your to your technology your stc's and your weapons manufacturing and then we'll help you well the uh new megos she's not really in any position to
bark to uh you know to negotiate she's like sure yeah that's better than the alternate alternative calculating calculating yeah exactly yeah man um yeah that opens up so much and then yeah not only internally but also like yeah what is the relationship with the mechanicum or those that they're supplying in the or at the imperium and those that are supplying there um I mentioned that how do they feel about zenos tech because that can then determine how they might feel about zenos in general like are the tau kind of like oh man we wish we had rail gun technology like them like I wish we could have one of them like maybe they're very curious about and they're kind of heretics yeah I do like the factions that kind of have that discussion especially when you're talking about something like the necrons who are ancient and have super advanced technology like because uh I
think the mechanicus game uh because you're you are scouring a tomb world and you're given multiple options throughout the game to you come across this piece of necrons technology do you want to study it or because it is zenos tech and they're for heretical I love that really cool really cool game so what would you do when you play through it uh I'm I'm a necron fanboy so I got to keep the necron tech and study it so good man I like that um very cool yeah the internal politics what else could be said about that um yeah who's in charge of the forward for maybe you do come up with some ranks and stuff in an actual flow chart of like what's happening because the titan legions have a weird and interesting spot because they're like part of the weird religion they're like god machines they're you know the omniscience manifest in
physical form you know so they have a different type of power uh and pull yeah it's fun yep and those princess that power will go to their heads very quickly yeah yeah or bigger the titan the bigger the ego the we go yeah um very cool I like it um I do like the uh knights in the titan's relationship in this regard it's kind of often not off the boat kind of that mechanic on the side of the knights um because you just think like what big 50-foot tall mechs with giant chain swords and you just think oh cool you don't think about like yeah like if you're like politicking that goes into it yeah and if you look at this guy
very different vibe then like this guy you know this knight's nightly knight batter's flown in the wind very different vibe this one sweet cool that's so cool yeah yeah I really like those new destroyers I might have to buy one at some point in my life no no no no no don't do it okay move it on move it on uh secrets the mechanicum is a mysterious place and full of secrets like one of the coolest things in forticand always has been is that like void dragon aspect like what the fuck is the void dragon what is that secret you know and that's just a great example of what you can kind of do with like the mechanicum is gonna have secrets and we are not gonna know or you might find out but really wish you didn't yeah exactly yeah you can come up with a bunch of different secrets if you want maybe they're
supplying someone they shouldn't be supplying um yeah that could get them in trouble oh for sure maybe they are building uh more exotic technology than they're allowed to um that's their secrets yeah yeah death alone AI no it's a perfectly acceptable machine spirit no AI involved yeah not men of iron just like that the totally not AI lesser call that a noise gillerman or uh yeah um yeah i love a good secret that's that's almost like the gimmick another good gimmick a really good like draw like if you have to include three things about your forge world you're like i produce this uh this is kind of the flavor and this is kind of my secret here i'm not telling you more so i'm gonna say that i have the ability to create plasma guns
what could be mystery gimmick i love the good gimmick honestly like i feel like in 40k is the perfect place for this over exaggerated gimmick or secret or like just like drama so cool um knowledge about elust civilization that would be interesting yeah yeah yeah what is your technology so good well mean like while it's built on like like your yours is almost built on an anachron portfolio essentially what you said they tap into that technology but what if it's an L-DAR you know and not like modern 10k today L-DAR like L-DAR from 30 million years ago hmm that would be interesting yeah i'm sure some craft i'm sure some craft worlds are going to have some words with that for forge world yeah that'd be cool that's kind of a fun story that's
their main enemy now uh to go from the ruins of an old L-DAR civilization now the new L-DAR craft worlds wanted that yeah love it and that's like good allies and enemies you know you can start thinking about that at this point you know you have a lot of you have an army now who are they fighting or what are they defending you know what's happening there so you can come up with some allies and enemies the natural allies you know the Imperium uh obviously but we mentioned so many little mechanical branches for allies um even the inquisition i guess can be a great ally at times because even they have to make make requisitions or requests they can't just order the mechanicus like they can uh the Imperial Guard or the space marines yeah yeah and like as we mentioned like yeah many times before the deptus mechanicus is a separate empire technique like the double headed aquila one of those head is for the the mechanicum like it's its own separate
but you did the impairment and the mechanicum to flap um it survived um which is which is funny because look at that war him uh looking at the 40k website it the ad mech is listed under armies of the Imperium which i guess is technically true but but hey don't worry i'll send a nasty hate mail to him later tonight along with the 50 others yeah i got chatbots i got 37 chatbots sending an email an hour to them they're all different some of one of them is nice but most of them are bleak i don't actually have that that's crazy um relationship with the Imperium yeah that is a big thing how do they view them are do they view themself superior probably does it do they show it though
they try to they try to obviously but then they somehow end up screwing it up for themselves yeah yeah even bigger vanity than the Imperium we can master this technology this war portal ravenous tech and then the whole planet gets sucked into the war yeah i can't remember there was another story where it was basically the uh uh it was basically the uh mechanicus we're exploring uh some kind of planet for our archaotech they pressed a button to release the vault for the archaotech whoops you just woke up a necrondinisty good job ad mech these guys are fucking sweet i see these maybe only like a month ago uh there the story yeah they're almost like more bulky like guitarry like you know way more cybernetic
interesting i can tie you have you seen them before uh i have not but i will fully admit the ad mech or not one of the armies that paid attention to that much so yeah and they can sometimes blend you're like okay either there's some shirtless dude shooting lightning at me or they all cybernetics and red robes all red robes yeah uh and at this point now you got a pretty good system you know what you up to let's build a history let's add some actual dates to it you know in m37 where you found in the dark age of mechanical one of the first four worlds out there you've been around for 10,000 40,000 years um it's possible like Mars has been around for 40,000 years essentially yep pretty close to it pretty much maybe not maybe more like 35 i don't know exactly but pretty fucking close oh yeah but you can be even a new forward world like even in 40k they are conquering
worlds and like this is going to be a good world like there's resources here and no one's here uh there's no defenders here this will be a good world for a fourth world let's set one up absolutely and as like you get the there is only war tagline states like planets are conquered and lost all the time so it could be a rediscovered forward world oh yeah that's a good one too yeah yeah yeah like during the great crusade like that there was that vast rediscovering of all these like elements of the mechanical around and you know unite them and yeah very cool and maybe you were found it by the imperial at that point as opposed to being found by the mechanical so you're like oh shit if i was if i wouldn't know and i would have sworn myself to the mechanical instead of the imperial i just didn't know that the mechanical was really out there oh no yeah uh so yeah the history you know it's fun you can come up with some dates and stuff uh 40k has such a large timeline
that you can play with sometimes and the mechanical is definitely one of those larger timelines yeah it is such a huge sandbox you get a lot of freedom to kind of really suss out like the nitty-gritty details if you want yeah yeah yeah uh yeah and then you could be going into characters and stuff you know founding character is great or miss or whatever or like um maybe a character that uh if you're ultra religious maybe a character that broke the religion like the lesson you know I carried you that so don't do that we tortured that guy for days uh and then yeah you can always get into flaws and contradictions here you want you know once you have some characters uh you built this world but as soon as you actually play with it that's when it starts to break you know in a good way that's when it starts to get interesting and you can add these flaws and contradictions like yeah they are really ultra religious and they do love
machines but uh also um yeah I don't know what the opposite of that is but uh you'll come up with it yeah yeah the technology may be great but you only have it's so labor intensive you can only make so many at a time or even just one uh yeah yeah and then like what Mark yeah and then like what Mark was saying like you you know the mechanic is is religious and there are different ways that they believe they can worship the omniscience so maybe the tech research divided yeah yeah whole planet with one belief even if you do have like that shared kind of overall belief there's so many sub factions yeah oh yeah uh we've done the uniqueness test honestly I don't know if I like the name of this uniqueness test I like the concept like what happens when you take away stuff um I get so many headaches every month it could be chronic migraine 15 or more headache days a month each lasting
four hours or more Botox on a botchaline mtoxin A prevents headaches and adults with chronic migraine it's not for those who have 14 or fewer headache days a month prescription Botox is injected by your doctor effects of Botox may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms a lurcher doctor right away as difficulty swallowing speaking breathing eye problems or muscle weakness can be signs of a life threatening condition patients with these conditions before injection or at highest risk side effects may include allergic reactions neck and injection side pain fatigue and headache allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms and dizziness don't receive Botox if there's a skin infection tell your doctor your medical history muscle or nerve conditions including ALS lugaric's disease myasthenia gravis or Lambert Eaton syndrome and medications including botchaline mtoxins as these may increase the risk of serious side effects why wait ask your doctor visit Botox chronic migraine.com or call 1-800-44 Botox to learn more are your ad campaigns lighting up the dashboard but not the pipeline that's bullspend and marketers are calling it out in dashboard confessions my boss asks for results so i open my dashboard for
the only positive sounding metric i add impressions cut the bullspend see revenue not just reach linkedin delivers the highest return on ad spend of major ad networks advertise on linkedin spend 200-50 dollars on your first campaign and get a $25 crydegodalinked.com slash campaign turns the conditions apply like what does happen when you take away their frozen planet does it change what they're producing or does it pretty much remain the same because maybe you want to make it connected a little more maybe not hard to say yeah uh and then finally we got the four-t world builder i've never read one of these out on the show it's just so long and i feel like it it's a visual thing but if you want that that is in the show notes there's a link in there and you can actually kind of get like the four-t world identity and it's five sub points the world and it's five sub points in all these different you know categories it really build it out yeah definitely like a good fill in the blank for like if you're just getting started doing this this can be like
your how-to guide for well mean that's what the point of this show is but it's like a good a good how-to guide of like things to look for whenever you are home-ruined your four-t world yeah the one thing that always catches me every time is the taboo you know the taboo so what is what is taboo and now it might be very easy with mechanic um because there's so many things like did you oil the machine first you know why did you just go and raw how dare you oh i always love that one though there's some cool ones on here though uh do you want to read the big lesson sure so when creating a four-t world do not start by asking what cool technology do they have this is a good question though but rather ask what does this place exist to do maybe the answer is while they make cool technology i mean it's not it wouldn't be a wrong answer in my mind it's not
no so what does the place exist to do then you can build the world around that purpose then the industry the culture the tech priestess guitarry you know then you can add all the building blocks onto it and suddenly you're not just creating a mechanicus army you're creating a civilization that has spent thousands upon thousands years or centuries if they're a new four-t world turning industry into religion yeah and that's kind of the thing like the mechanicus is this whole big thing it's like saying do a homebrew of the imperial you're really more doing a homebrew of a four-t world and scatari or a night house and titan legions you know i think this is a good good kind of overview of the adeptus mechanicus and kind of how to start you know you definitely have to have some knowledge of the lore before you start homebrewing even with like the fill-in sheet that we have you definitely should read a wiki a page definitely listen to some on gas definitely
like i mean i mean i have said this on i may have said this on like older lore hammer episodes but like you definitely need to know and understand the rules so you can know how to bend or break them the right way if that makes sense we didn't include that on this episode like the rules you can't break um the mechanicus in it well what are that that would be a good question what are the rules that we can't can't really break with the mechanicus i just don't know if there is like when i was thinking and maybe you have some but i just don't know if there is because i think even about their religiousness they there's so many subcults and stuff like they can take it so many ways and i also think like there is one line of like are you admec are you darkmec and there is kind of that line but beyond that i feel like there's no like universe in universe you cannot break this you cannot create maybe a good one would be like you cannot create better technology than the
necrone or like cap your level of technology but even then i say find some dark age technology and you won me over and i always and i always say like because i i had made my gripes before about like how sometimes overly restricted the mechanicus can be and i like this and my favorite complaint is we're deciding the one story where a tech priest was executed because they made a single adjustment to their goggles so they can look at their research better and that was considered tech heresy oh god yeah now that can be extreme you know now obviously we can't have an entire adeptus mechanicus network operating like that but that does happen yeah i feel like an easy out though and it might be a cop out if you do it too much in your home brewing would be they have this super advanced piece of technology that was actually
innovative or you know built from scratch but you have to market it or label it as oh this was an stc we found that way you don't get the heritech label for innovating and honestly maybe that's your secret for your forge but you're like no it's a stc trust us meanwhile they're like tinkering in the basement we just keep finding new stcs boss yeah like it very cool uh do you have any closing thoughts here for it kind of the start of the adeptus mechanicus like i said we are doing scatari nights and titans eventually but that really it's a good good jumping off point kind of does make me want to flesh out my small forge world more but again it's more of a supplement to my space marine lore so yeah i don't know how do you know i'll go and i don't think you necessarily have to um that's the beauty of it they are these two branches where it can just be a part logistical
chain of war and it's needed and essential um but it doesn't have to really they can be just that you know that behind the scenes kind of thing yeah because my forge world essentially functioned as that they're the main suppliers for the space marine chapter the space marines helped them out when the necrons invaded so they basically made this agreement okay we'll supply you as long as you keep sending out aid in case we need it and then uh yeah and so like a lot of their tech priests that do get sent over to uh work with the space marine chapter okay yeah that's the agreement that they made so yeah yeah like it's always useful to have a starting chapter and you're kind of backing call to some degree sure even though you have war like titans it's always good to have a start these oh yeah um very cool my friend um shout out to you again Gerald thanks for joining so many episodes uh you there's so many people that have hopped on this show so if you have a favorite
host seriously go send him a message on discord and just show him a little love you know maybe maybe throw them some money this weekend instead of me um Gerald what's your only fans here share it so we can donate to yeah it is uh WWW 5 once you know no no no no no I'm in this for the love of the game so big shout out to Mark for facilitating this and making this all happen for all of us guests that actually you know want to partake in this 40k discussion and evangelizing the glory that is Warhammer for yeah I love that very cool man what will we see all on the next one at yes
