On March 10, Tensions between the United States and Iran heated up this week with direct threats flying between top leaders. President Donald Trump warned on Monday night that if Iran tries to block oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, America would strike back 20, times harder than before. That key waterway carries a big chunk of the world's oil supply. On Tuesday, Ali Laryani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, fired back online. He dismissed Trump's words as empty and cautioned the President to watch his own back, saying greater powers before had failed against Iran. This isn't the first time Iran has targeted Trump with threats. Back in 2020, after a U.S. drone strike killed Iranian general Kasem Soleimani, Iranian leaders issued religious calls for his death, and even lost online fundraisers promising big bounties for assassins. Meanwhile, U.S. officials have cracked down on related plots. Most recently, a Pakistani businessman was convicted in federal court in Brooklyn

for trying to hire killers, actually undercover FBI agents to target. American politicians, including Trump, on behalf of Iran's revolutionary guard corps. As these warnings echo, both sides stay on high alert over the vital oil route, with the potential for quick escalation always looming.
