Trump’s Press Ban

0:00Okay, in addition to that, the White House removed CNN from today's TV pool breaking with decades of precedent, and now the breaking news, this just in, the pool released a statement saying, this is the White House pool, this is to advise that effective today, the TV pool will not be covering the events designated as pool coverage of the president. This follows the White House position preventing CNN from fulfilling its assigned pool duties. There will be no replacement pool put in place. Some people thought Trump was just bluffing, and maybe he still is, and he will quickly reverse this after finding out it's almost more harmful to him than it is to the news outlets. Of course, being about Trump banning CNN, MS now, and Politico from the White House pool, which might sound kind of procedural, and oh, okay, maybe a question won't be asked.

1:01But actually, if you understand how it works, I'm learning a lot more about the study before just because of Trump having a temper tantrum, and I'll tell you why he had that temper tantrum in a second here. But we're learning about the specifics and logistics of how the press pool works. Whenever Trump goes on a trip to Saudi Arabia, and at every event, we have good camera angles, and we have audio, and then every outlet has access to that, even if they weren't there in person, the way that we get information out of the White House beyond just the communications that they're delivering their own sort of propaganda, is a process put together by the White House Correspondents Association. And the press pool works together, however much some of the particular journalists might not like each other, or there might be political differences. They actually work together a lot. And so because of that, they understand, even Fox News understands that this precedent is a threat to all of them. And an example is there's an event that Trump's going to the UN General Assembly, or something, where CNN was designated to get all the original audio

2:03video and then kind of divvies it out. And the original information divvies it out and the other outlets use it. But now you ban them. The other outlets are like, well, we're not ready to or we're going to choose not to fill the role CNN was supposed to. So now you're just going to get nothing. Trump who needs attention will just get none of it as there's a unity, a lawsuit being brought, I'll tell you about, but also unity, even among Fox News and CNN to say, none of us will cover you. The press pool will not be at your events getting this information out to people unless you reverse this ban. That is, of course, Trump just freaking out because people dare to criticize him. And we know that for sure now with some reporting from CNN, funnily enough, that shows Natalie Harp, the shadow president showed him clips. Cause everyone's like, why did he suddenly ban three major outlets that he's kind of seemingly enjoyed clashing with over the years? Why did he suddenly

3:03ban them from any access to the White House into the president? And it was this. President on Trump's close aid, Natalie Harp showed him clips of media coverage last week before he banned political CNN and MS now from the White House. People familiar with the matter said CNN has reached out to the White House for comments. So she put up, you can picture it. We've seen this before. He'll go, what were those? Why were those charts that proved I'm doing amazing? I got it. She'll show it to him. She was doing that. She was like, look at how mean they're being to you. And he snapped and made a psychotic decision to punish them. And this is happening as we're getting leaks out of the White House that Trump advisors aides around him. Not Natalie. She probably believes every single thing he's doing. But other ones with a little bit more of a head on their shoulders are saying that they're noticing, even if he's often in a good mood, because he's kind of detached from the consequences of his presidential actions, his, his snap fuse, how short his fuse is

4:07to go and complete a nuclear has shortened a lot in his age. And as he realizes, the Trump era will come to an end. Think about whenever he became president the first time. Anytime he felt that dreadful feeling for Trump of what if one day I'm not significant to people? What if one day nobody's asking me questions and nobody cares. And they've moved on to something else. That's not something he had to contend with too much because he knew he could run for a election. Then he ran for a election. He loses and he has a complete meltdown, fearing that he was going to become relevant. But then he starts ramping up his 2024 campaign. Now we're well into the second term. And he knows there is an end date. And people are going to start talking about vans and rubio and then the democratic candidates. And he will slowly become even while he's still president, much less once he leaves office, less and less the center of everything. And that is his biggest fear and the reporting that I put up on screen. Uh, reference is this that his own aides are getting, quote,

5:07unquote, spooked that he'll increasingly as he gets closer to losing his grip on power, act out and try to make his mark in some disturbing ways like escalations with the wrong. We heard all this reporting over the weekend that he was rushing back to the White House. Nothing major from my understanding ended up happening. But that he was preparing for some sort of huge elimination level attack on Iran that he's getting desperate there. And then he's getting completely erratic as his hold on power has a clock. It really does. And I can make you feel better with that. Here's MSNOW reporting on that network as well as the other two joining a lawsuit together to regain their access with all of this in one minute. But we have a development surrounding the Trump White House banning of MSNOW, CNN and political reporters, a joint statement from those three news organizations reads as follows, quote, this morning we notified the government that we're filing a lawsuit

6:08today to protect our first amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes. Without notice or process, the White House revoked our journalist credentials because it objected to our reporting. Left unchallenged, this threatens freedom of the press and the public's right to independent journalism free from government interference. It was interesting that people would be very critical sometimes perfectly fairly to Biden for not doing enough with the press for not engaging enough. He hasn't done enough interviews. New York Times is really bitter that he want to sit down for a long form interview with them for a long time. And it was like, you need to be more available. That didn't mean that the outlets that would ask him critical questions weren't in the room during press briefings when his press secretary would answer questions for him or when other cabinet officials were or when he would come out, but it was it's not frequent enough. And that

7:08was like a big criticism. And sometimes I was like, yeah, come on, do more stuff, Biden. This is a level that we just haven't seen before where it's not, oh, Trump hasn't done hostile interviews in a while or he hasn't done a press briefing himself on a while. This is I don't even want anyone from these outlets that I don't like and that do critical coverage of me to be able to ask anyone in my administration at the White House critical questions to get any original reporting out of the White House to go to any of my events and get that firsthand account. Kelly Meyer said with CNN banned from the White House and taken off the TV pool list for today, they were originally listed as pool from Monday and for President's trip to the UN assembly. Other major TV networks are standing by the outlet and in an astonishing move all together, deciding not to cover events designated as pool coverage of the president. What's important for people at home to understand about this, how this affects all of us is that the footage taken by one of the five major TV networks in the White House pool rotation goes out to local affiliates across the country and

8:09throughout the world. If people don't get this footage from the five main outlets, then the only footage left comes from the White House itself. So it's all, I mean, they're really trying. Who knows if they'll hold this up, but just so you're understanding. This is just like right out of authoritarian 101, not even the most egregious example, of course, and they can frame it as super lighthearted. Well, we don't have to give them special access, but the steps you take toward weeding out any criticism and in any access to your administration from critical outlets and then fill their seats with just state TV. And I just saw the White House was going if you are looking for first hand accounts of the White House, just go to our social media outlets or our social media handles will give you the accurate information. This is stepping towards trying to step toward state TV being the main source of information out of the White House as opposed to a lot of different outlets, which has been a beautiful part of America that despite Obama hating Fox News

9:14or Biden hating Fox News or these other outlets, if you're big enough, if you have sort of a certain institutional level and one of these legacy outlets, then you are able to be there in the room. And that allows for a unique level of free speech and dissemination. And you know, simulation of information, I think it's very important that our brains get insiminated by accurate information. Now, here is an example of what happens whenever the press pull goes, okay, well, we're not going to do these events, even if we're not one of the outlets that's banned. Newsmax, I guess, had a camera at this event Trump held at the White House, but the the outlet that would have been designated to the audio was not there. So then it's just a muted Trump shouting into the ether. Yeah, there. You want to say yes, let's just he's talking right now, but whoever was responsible this

10:20day for setting up the audio equipment from one of the outlets is one of the outlets that's boycotting or that has been banned. Okay, so there's no microphone because there's no microphone because the pool cameras aren't there. So maybe Tim, this is one example of it backfiring just a little bit, pick up on or some of things. Michael was saying. And obviously the ramifications are right here. Can't hear what the president's saying. I have explained this to people many times before, which is there's a certain and this is just one tiny-ish piece of it, but there's a certain information infrastructure that was built for decades, almost exclusively by the major legacy news outlets and the the scale of access to information across the world and war zones and journalists all over the place and sources of web source and up first hand reporting that then we all react to is so much

11:25more significant than I think most independent media voices understand. And so while I love hyping up the medium of content that we do independent media and it is important to support in there are certain things that corporate media is beholden to and it's in the phrase there. One of the major ones that independent media isn't, but also we have unique challenges where more beholden to social media algorithms and audience capture. And then another one is even the biggest networks, even the mightest touches, etc. daily wire that have built quote unquote independent platforms still don't have anywhere in the vicinity of the resources and the journalists and the access and the infrastructure, etc. that some of these corporate media outlets do. And so one of the things I'm afraid of as we have seen a big shift away from corporate media towards independent media, which in some ways is really positive and we celebrate

12:27it and self-servingly I want to celebrate it. There's also a fear that I have and this is a little reminder of it that we rely a lot on these outlets that really can't have people everywhere and can get information that independent creators like we just can't get and are doing a lot of original journalism, thenkless original journalism that then we are the ones who get to pontificate about. And so it's still important we have larger institutions that can withstand the legal battles that they get pulled into by the Trump administration especially and can still get us sort of the tentacles that are like CNN has all over or the Associated Press all over the world that then we rely on we need a replacement for that or we need that to continue even if we also see the issues with the corporate media incentive structure and then we have to be honest about the incentive structure that's different but still

13:27can be damaging that we're involved into. One weird thing that I saw play out on social media after this was like almost everyone who's honest, you know, right of center people but honest folks like Brad Poulombos saying this is just completely dumb Trump is having a child like meltdown because people do coverage of him that he doesn't like some tried to prove that like but I'm still not a Democrat by trying bizarre both sides is him. So Pierce Morgan's one of those he was saying this is a bad move by Trump it's not in the interest of press freedom it's obviously just a temperate tantrum and it is unprecedented the level of it but he tried to compare it to Obama to be like but other presidents have been bad too. So let me show you a clip that Obama was in that was circulating and then show you Pierce Morgan's response. My imagination could not foresee some of the stuff is going on right now. I believe there was just an announcement that the White House decided.

14:31You know what CNN, MSN, MSN now maybe the New York Times would include you just can't come to the White House press briefings anymore because you're giving the current president unfavorable coverage. I'm trying to think what would have happened if I had said you know what Fox News it's unimaginable. Yeah there would have been hundreds and hundreds of right wing media voices and also mainstream media voices who would have just immediately imploded, combusted if Obama did something like that. To which Pierce Morgan responds Obama did ban Fox and waged almost constant war against press freedom. You should, I think he means to say, sit this one out president Barack Obama and I went really how is it that I have engaged in

15:33debates with right wingers for hundreds and hundreds of hours and have probably spent at least dozens of hours debating Trump's threat to the press with MAGA and they pulled out every bit of what about is I'm every bit but Obama did and I've never heard that Obama banned Fox News from the White House like what Trump is doing. How is that possible? So then I looked into it but as I was looking into it went oh wait right below this clip that Pierce Morgan responded to there was a fact check of Pierce Morgan in 2000 this or this is the on the clip and I'm going to show you the the community note on Pierce Morgan's in 2009 the Obama administration tried to exclude Fox news from one interview seeing in the other networks objected so the administration back down Fox News was not banned from the White House but that might be the same community note. Yeah that's the same community note. So then somebody screen shots that community note that says are you comparing Trump banning outlets completely from White House access to getting original reporting

16:38from the White House to Obama not wanting Fox News in the room for one event or dialogue they think it was like an administration official was going to take questions from the press and they didn't want Fox News in there for it because they were in a dispute with Fox News because of how utterly dissonance they are and number one that was for one thing. I don't think if anyone make a deal if Trump said I don't want to see an end in the room for this one press gaggle and second they back down also. So somebody screenshots the community note and goes um Pierce what are you doing and Pierce goes the community note confirms what I said Obama banned Fox so if it were me I learned how to read rather than live with the shame of being oh what is that reasonable half wet. And so Pierce is like haha haha. Purse I said it literally right now. It literally the last sentence as Fox News was not banned from the White House that's the last sentence of the community note that Pierce thinks proves his point and it specifies that it was Fox News being

The other one the other one about it was them they brought up was during the Biden era it was something like a bunch of journalists didn't reapply for their credentials and then the right wing media ran that as Biden took away their credentials when it was like well you didn't reapp your credentials so you don't have them anymore you could have reapplied and then here is of J.D. Van trying to defend this which again he would implode if a Democrat effort did something like this. Now why on God's green earth would Donald Trump be expected to give political special access when nobody in the media expected the Biden administration or the Obama administration to give right bar special access it's about basic fairness. Right Bart it's not special access it's it's that we need well-resourced outlets to be regular fixtures in these contexts to be able to transmit across the world valuable up to date information about what's going

18:47on with the president it it's that he compares it to right bar this is another part of the conversations I don't want to spend too much time on because the principle of it is enough to make our argument but I mean a part of the issue is even if Biden did ban he didn't but if he did like ban bright bar from ever being at one of his events or something like that or and the bright bar decision was made by the White House Correspondence Association because normally that's what presidents do they leave it up to the White House Correspondence Association they regulate themselves they have a leader the president of the White House Correspondence Association they can do dispute so it's independent from who's going to be in the press pool who's going to be in the front row is independent from the president and his staff making those decisions I love that structure that's very smart and that's where most of these past decisions have been made including by part but also bright bar is so unfactual so this is another piece of it which you don't want to spend on

19:49to which time on because it seemed like you're just saying well that outlet I don't like but I like these ones but it is a funny note that even and let me say it again without the point I'm making right now it still is not comparable to anything that the Democrats have done and is still obviously just a timber taintroom and Trump not liking outlets but it's going to hurt him because then he'll just get less coverage on things that he wants coverage on but it's hard not to reference the isn't in a co bear quote uh reality has a liberal bias like you can't compare politico's level of fact base reporting or CNN's or even MS now to something like bright bar or fox news those aren't comparable so that's not what makes the argument for us because then they'll just go oh see you old thorn you look but it should be discussed at some point that it's annoying we have to call fact based reporting like the associated press we have to call that liberal media but then full blown state TV right wing propaganda has to just be called conservative media we have

20:53liberal media which are like the fact based outlets and then we have because if you want to call MS now liberal media that's fine but they'll call any middle of the road impartial objective reporting if it exposes anything negative about Trump they'll call it liberal and so it's once again example of the unequal playing field where I don't want Obama to buy into ban fox news from the White House but they would have a better argument because of the brazen propaganda that's on the network then Trump does with the quote unquote liberal outlets such as a little thorn on my side let me do this story and then I'll check in with the audience because this one is kind of a follow up to what we just discussed but I will get to these super chats I see them and we'll discuss them in a second we've been discussing for the first segment in today's show this ban that Trump implemented against CNN MS now and Politico and it's so so brazenly against

21:55press freedom and is an obvious tantrum by Trump to keep outlets out of the room that are critical of him that even fox news is saying well then we're not going to participate in the press pull for these events because we don't think you should be able to do that to our colleagues in the broader media space well you would think if there is a White House wide ban on these outlets they can't get press credentials they can't go to the event they can't get this original information they can't do it can be in the press briefing room no where in the White House you would assume that includes Milania even though the east wing was demolished the first lady's office is typically in the White House this is a part of the broader White House ecosystem but Milania seems to not care about Trump's feud as much as Trump cares about it because she went I'm going to credential a CNN reporter which is a hilarious sort of going over his head situation look at this and just tell us about today how we're actually seeing the impact of this ban because CNN was supposed to be

23:00part of the press pull that's not happening no that's not happening and the other networks are agreeing not to fill in and substitute for CNN and go and film the president with their own cameras instead because every five days these networks take turns today is CNN's turn that CNN was also going to be the travel pool tomorrow because the president staying overnight in New York for the U.N. General Assembly so the other networks are refusing to fill in and do the CNN pool duty that is a part of the show of solidarity going on here but what we're going to see happen Pam is we're going to see reporters get creative that's what we do sometimes and we have to we're going to see reporters try to get credentialed in other ways I'm told for example that a CNN reporter has already been approved by the office of the first lady to cover an event with Milania Trump on the sidelines of the U.N. tomorrow so I'm expecting more of those sorts of things to happen there will still be coverage of what the president the first lady are doing but it's not going to be through the official pool because Trump has instituted this ban and I think Pamela it's important to note what the president wrote on true social this morning about this because

24:03he's clearly been watching the coverage he's been hearing from these first amendment lawyers he's been hearing that he's probably going to lose in court so we wrote on true social I'm not assaulting the free press I'm assaulting the fake news he says quote it is instituting an assault on the fake news something that's growing like cancer he says it is a threat to our national security yeah blah blah let me you know I'm in a tough spot here because recently I learned because of some very nuanced criticism of me that I'm not allowed to give a take on the first lady and so I don't know exactly what to do here I would say that's interesting I was at the interesting that the first lady is not abiding by the not abiding by the ban across the White House and saying you know what I want to have a I want to have a CNN reporter credentialed with my team so who cares that is Navy her completely ignoring what Trump's trying to do here she's definitely not standing in solidarity

26:04down as Trump drops his massive hammer on their face yeah not just that I knew how liberal media would respond I was curious how your mag a friendly hosts like Joe Kernen for example would take this because he who if he ever has to say something critical of Trump he usually is a stuttering and stammering mess and uh it's very nervous like being himself trying to ask Trump about his corruption but in this case I should note he's not talking to a Trump family member that's normally when he gets really nervous he's talking to Scott Besson which is admitted late less nerve-wracking less intimidating to confront Scott Besson than anybody else but he was like pretty stark in the framing of his question that this is not American this is not how America is supposed to operate things that sets the United States apart I think is it our leaders have to answer difficult questions sometimes even hostile questions and we see the alternative and it's a badge of honor I

27:06watch you answer hostile questions and I think that's when you're in your element is it how was how is this going to play out with this ban of of and then what do you think of it uh so sigilla I've been traveling they I don't know much about it I wasn't in the old but in general do you think wait why do people who defend Trump always use that that line I've been busy or I've been traveling did you not have Wi-Fi where you were traveling like how did how did that impact actually when I'm traveling I feel like I'm keeping up with the news even more because there's all this free time while you're on planes itself to scroll through the news I wasn't the oval when it happened but I think we have to get you know when we talk about equal liberum clearly for the legacy media the equilibrium is so far out of culture because they what the what group is one of the few that is least popular than the u.s congress like legacy media and why is that by the way that stat just in case you ever hear it is meaningless it's like the most meaningless thing I've ever heard

28:09in my life all that means is we're divided that means nothing about the factuality or impartiality of a CNN or an associated press or political or MS now it speaks to nothing about that when you ask a population what is your approval of the media because in times gone by we all kind of trusted the same outlets and then maybe had different takeaways so when you would pull because they'll compare this that's a blank percentage drop from 1980 the reason is because people have shifted to with all of these different mediums of getting information now and how it's so much more fractured people shifted to going to their preferred outlets that echo their opinion as opposed to us all going to the same outlets that we trust and then debating afterwards the debate happens before and after the debate is what outlets do I even go to so if you ask me do I approve of the news media I would also say no that doesn't speak at all to how trustworthy I think the outlets are

29:12that I trust it's just that when right wingers get asked they go it's terrible because they're thinking of MS now and when left wingers could ask they're like it's terrible because they're thinking of Fox news but everyone has an outlet that they do trust they do think is is factual so I'm a little tired of that talking play because of the perceived bias so the American people deserve good reporting I couldn't agree more but you know we'll see we'll see where we'll see where the press is all the different presidents and and I will grant you that I think maybe Republican presidents it historically have had maybe a tougher time with mainstream media but you've got Fox news that that has been all over Democratic the president I just don't I just don't think this is something we that will last in this country we don't do this in this country yeah yeah I again we'll see this president has been the most transparent president and he's always is Joe Kernet about to Joe this is a moment for you you can correct him or you can agree with him is he about to agree

30:14with best in or correct him because the correct response to Trump administration officials saying he's the most transparent ever is to say well that's the most silly thing you've ever said in your life just because Trump choreographs press briefings where he gets to steamroll whoever he wants and not answer any question lie over and over doesn't mean you're transparent just because he does longer and more press gagels that are like the easiest context of answering questions because they can blow out a question if you don't like it you can ignore it if you do want to answer it you can just start talking and they have to shut up it's not like an interview where the host can keep asking follow ups is just like an open melee which is very favorable to Trump that's not the same as Trump sitting for a lot of confrontational interviews which he does not do I don't know if you notice this he does not subject himself to to difficult and critical interviews anymore barely president been the most transparent president and he's answer more I think he likes to answer questions that's why don't and I understand believe me that he feels that that he has been unfairly treated

32:17get back in and I'm letting them because I'm such a thoughtful it'll be something like that but it speaks to how much more fragile he's getting I think he's gonna realize this is more harmful to him than them but in the meantime it wasn't some strategic play the only other thing I want to say that's at all maybe subtle strategy is we're talking about it this is the ones I was a little bummed out I came into the office today and like 80% of my feet was just about this press band's like okay this is dominating the news cycle understandably so him waging another assault on the press I think this might be a little bit of the lake of America thing again where he would at least rather us debate about this then be focused on the other failures your average American who's not keeping it with politics every day is not really gonna care about some dispute between even though it's really important and I explained that to you it doesn't seem super important to just people wandering around in the in the world of in their life it's like what some dispute over whether they're allowed to be in a certain room that's what it sounds like so he'd rather that

57:25I think, spark a lot of conversations about 2024, as opposed to keeping it on 2028. But I guess her actions don't prove that, according to those who are around her, her closest advisors, many of those who know Kamala Harris best says Axios, think she ultimately won't run for the White House in 2028. Over the past year, surprisingly large number of former aid circuits and donors to Harris have told Axios, they believe she won't launch another campaign. They argue that the move she's making hitting the trail for midterm candidates going on podcast circuit and writing a book make her look like a contender in waiting, but actually amount to her simply trying to maintain influence. Harris has publicly and privately, she hasn't made up her mind. And then former aid say, you know, they might be wish casting because they're weary of her running again, but they believe that she won't pursue another bid. Eight, so eight former Harris aides and advisors were surveyed. One of them said she will run.

58:26Two said it's a coin flip and five said she likely won't run. So of eight former, who knows what that means. There's, there's supposedly people who worked for it, a senior level know her well, but who knows if they're still in her orbit or not are saying, she probably won't. And here are the reasons that they stated as to why she's doing the bare minimum to stay in the 2028 conversation as one past aid put it. Harris's former staffers argue that if she were gung ho about running, she'd be hiring more traveling more inserting herself into policy debates. More. So what I saw as her getting out front and doing a tour and being in the discussion because she was running, they see as she's doing enough to keep it as an option. So she hasn't completely made up her mind and she wants the option if she changes her mind, but she would be doing more if she were certain she was running. She's a rational actor is the second reason. Former aides say Harris is well aware of the hurdles that would await her. If she ran again, quote, she's a realist in a stoop political observer. And she knows her can see could get bogged down into a 2024 review mirror.

59:29Yeah, that's the scariest part. It really is because if you ran somebody, let me just keep using him as an example. Like a soft. That's just like a clean slate, mostly. And so there's no looking back barely. And it can all be about what the truck administration is doing bad now. And what would you do better in the future? And he's still relatively new to politics. With Kamala Harris, there would be a lot of a did you do you wish Biden dropped up? Did you get earlier? What do you think of the debate? A lot of questions like that. And why do you think you should run again if you ran it before? You know, American voters are just fell out of a coconut tree. Voters are already rejected. Is it et cetera? It's all for it. Points like that. And that's the the scariest part to me. Five, the money might not be there. People who donated two billion dollars may feel like I already gave a lot. And we lost. I want to try somebody different.

And you know, other people are saying it's 50, 50. So that gives me a little bit of context for why this moment that totally baffled me when newsrooms like, I don't know if she's running. And also if she runs, I won't run, which it, okay, maybe you say it's obvious, or maybe you're not that shocked to the common and might not run. I am shocked, but I would be, come, I would be like, I don't know anything about predicting this type of stuff. If newsome doesn't run, it feels like everything he's been doing is preparing for a presidential run. And so when he said he wanted run of comela did we all thought is there something he knows that we don't. And the biggest example would be he, he's talked to her and she's convinced him he's not, she's not running. Because then he could say that as a way of like, assuming the support of her

Of course as I've learned over the past few months, they prioritize a whole lot of fraudsters and we know exactly what happened as a result. America became a place where you had to be rich to enjoy what used to be an ordinary life for all of our citizens. This is, um, this, this became what went under who, who is the president right now? That was the thought I had throughout a lot of this speech was like, who does he think, remind me who he thinks is in power right now? Because he should be reminded as him, watch that he is ending to his speech. Like this is his ending. This is the big conclusion. craziness you've got to vote for Republicans. But his comments when he talks about prices, even from people who chances are really like

1:20:18or liked him, are getting pretty hostile. Trump posted gas prices were much higher under Biden than under Trump. So we're almost all other prices and might as touch took these screenshots to point out. The supporters of his or the commenters at least losing it at him. One person said gas sliding. No, they weren't. They really weren't pardon me. Gas prices are through the roof. Yes, but you promised to lower gas prices. Someone else said, sure, another one said somebody said an account that has the username 911 was an inside job said voted for you three times. They said this is terrible. I voted for this guy and then they turn on the television and Kevin Hassett is on there being like well when I went to a pussy story recently there was cheaper burgers and so. There's been a big reduction in inflation but prices are higher because of the huge inflation that we inherited from Joe Biden but inflation is way down. Again over the last three months we're right at the fifth. The inflation's not way down. What? You just get to say stuff. It's target and it's dropped sharply despite the what's going on in the Middle East.

1:23:27So I think that I go to the grocery store every weekend and I just noticed as an example that the hamburger for my barbecue yesterday was down two dollars from a couple of weeks ago. So I'm seeing prices move in the right direction. You saw that a hamburger was down a couple of dollars for your barbecue at Hassett's anecdote about one burger price dropped. It's not show inflation is way down. BLS data shows CPI up 3.4% a year over a year. Etc. Ground beef average record $6.92 per pound up 9.6% from a year earlier. I don't care what your one hamburger had such a good reason. Really? Well, I don't see it because where I go to eat is free because somebody it's my cabinet. Yeah, but where did you buy it from?

1:24:28I don't know. My assistant bought it for me, but every time I get it out it's free. So I don't know what everyone's complaining about. And then here is Kelly Leffler, the small business association person who's saying actually small businesses are very optimistic right now. Diesel. Even though it isn't, I know that's a consumer sentiment, but business owners are consumers too. Consumer sentiments just completely terrible right now. This is hitting another record again today. The national average $6.51 a gallon. These increased levels putting pressure on American small businesses relying on trucks, farm equipment, generators, and heavy machinery. Joining me now, you a small business administrator, Kelly Leffler. Kelly, my dad's one of those. He's in the trucking business. He's looking at those diesel prices. What do you tell those small businesses that are feeling a little bit of that pinch? Well, Taylor, we have that in common. I come from a farming and talking background in my family business. Look, I think small businesses are looking through this right now. Obviously prices are elevated.

1:25:31There's nothing more important to the president than getting these prices down. That's what he's working on every single day. But we cannot have the largest state sponsor of terrorism having their thumb on oil prices. And definitely he's taking care of that. Small businesses are in growth mode. That's the bottom line. You see it in small. But we can't let the larger state sponsor of terror have their thumb on the oil market. They didn't. And now they do. I don't know. She said, diesel prices hitting the, she said, small businesses are looking through this. They're optimistic. I don't even know what looking through something means. I don't even know what argument she's making there. But this is what happens whenever you create a rule within your administration, within your orbit, that you cannot admit that Trump has ever done anything wrong. That's not a rule that past presidents had. Normally the defenders try to defend them and they try to frame things positively. But they can admit that some things aren't going the way that we'd like.

1:26:33During the Biden administration, there were tons of data metrics that would demonstrate good governance by Biden, even as it came to inflation, given all the pandemic price increases. And then comparing how we did to other countries and still spoke to people for him would go on and be like, we know it's bad. We know. But then they would try to, you know, describe why as being something as it was separate from Biden's decision making. But there would at least be an acknowledgement here. Trump gets so aggravated if you even acknowledge that his actions could have caused something bad. So when he's at a rally, he goes, you know, people say prices have gone up, but like they haven't. They're coming down. They're not even as high as they could have been and it's still would have been worth it. But like they're a little bit, oh, but it's not that big of a deal. It's kind of insignificant. And so then all of his people around him were like, we don't know how to message this. So we're just saying mumbo jumbo like small businesses are looking through.
