Trump Launches Nationwide Bribery Effort

0:00Nearly a million Americans are about to open their mailbox in the next couple weeks and find a check for $500 directly from Donald Trump. Along with that check will be a letter blaming Joe Biden. It's arriving just weeks before the midterm elections, but it's not nearly enough to cover what Republicans just did to their own health insurance premiums, but experts are calling it legal bribery. Why do we need legal bribery in this country? Well, it's because right now there is growing concern among Trump officials that turning the ship around between now and November is not possible anymore. Our Republican Senator privately texted Trump that he doesn't take his bullshit from anyone. A final jobs report before the election just came in lower than expected lots to cover right now. And I spoke with one of the one of the Democrats running against one of the Republicans who's flip flopping on Trump. David Crowley running to be the next governor of Wisconsin today.

This week the Treasury Department started mailing one time $500 refund checks to more than 950,000 people who buy Obamacare coverage on healthcare.gov and 30 states specifically people who don't get federal subsidies. This is mostly middle income families. Each check is going to come with the letter from Donald Trump quote for years the Biden administration overcharge you to fund the operation of healthcare.gov. That money belongs to hardworking Americans, not the government. Now I'm returning it to you. Now let's talk about where this money actually came from. It's unspent fees that ensures pay to run the federal exchange fees that get passed on to you and your premiums. And according to KFF a big reason that pile of unspent money built up in the first place is because during Trump's first administration they slash spending on enrollment help marketing.

2:01The website and the call center. So it's not really people just being wrongly overcharged, but here's the part that the letter leaves out at the end of last year. Republicans in Congress let the enhanced ACA subsidies expire, which sent premium skyrocketing for millions of people, especially middle income families. Trump says the $500 will cover that spike in many cases, but the actual premium price went up far more than that. So you get a $500 check in a letter in October and the bill after the election in November. That's the deal. Now comes as Republicans privately are telling Trump off. Here's what Senator Tom Tillis texted Donald Trump in the past few months. Let's go obtain text messages from Senator Tom Tillis where essentially Tillis texted the president and said, quote, I still want to help, but I don't take this bullshit from anyone, including you Mr. President saved that for the cowards who don't care if you fail. I care if you fail and right now we are failing to weeks later, Tillis told wrote that if Trump ever threatened him with the primary, I would have immediately told you to f off and told him to save those threats and head games for cowards and fools.

3:08Until is in alone with five weeks to go Republicans across the country are running from Trump. One congressman called it survival mode type. One Republican told Politico he Trump is quote, crypt and like for example, Tom Tiffany, the Republican running for governor of Wisconsin, used to back an FBI probe into the 2020 election as recently as may of this year. Now in the past couple days, he says, quote Joe Biden won and look where Trump is campaigning Alabama Oklahoma and Ohio states he won by 30, 34 and 11 points respectively Republican groups are spending $166 million just to save Ken Paxson in Texas more than they're spending in Michigan and Maine combined. And while that may not even be enough to help given what the president is saying about Ken Paxson because he could be a pain in the ass sometimes. Is he here by the way? Oh, there he is. Good. I didn't even know it was here. I don't care. I would say the same. I don't care. He's a pain in the ass. Now what just few weeks before the midterm, we have our final job report and the final jobs report shows that just 29,000 jobs were added in the month of September unemployment is up to 4.2% July in August.

4:19We're by is down by about 60,000 jobs combined. But the number that matters most for your wallet is wages grew just 3% over the past year. That's the slowest since the pandemic and it's actually below inflation. Your paycheck isn't actually keeping up with the prices that apply since the war in Iran began gas is still up 47% diesel 70% mortgage rates just hit 7.6%. Black unemployment jumped to full point to 7%. And the sectors most exposed to AI information finance and professional services all lost jobs as one economist put it today. It isn't a great time to have a job either. Now I spoke with David Crowley as I mentioned was running for governor of Wisconsin. See you soon in conversation with Crowley right excited today to be joined by David Crowley Democratic nominee for governor in Wisconsin now David I got to jump right in and ask you I'm sure you saw over the past 24 hours we learned that your Republican opponent raised 26 million dollars in two months thanks to transfers from the Wisconsin state party which was fueled by a billionaire backer including Diane Hendrix and others.

5:26Why are they pouring all this money into this race? Well you know who hasn't raised 26 million dollars this guy you know when I think about you know the amount of money that is going into this campaign particularly from three billionaires this is insane here and I think this speaks directly to the type of corruption that we've seen in Washington DC. You know he is a mega extreme is Congressman time Tiffany a Trump loyalist he voted to back you know billions of the many different tax cuts for these billionaires. And now he's delivering for them as he's running for governor he protected the billionaire class by not releasing the abstain files so I think this speaks directly to the corruption in Washington and how we cannot allow this same corruption in the state of Wisconsin we have to defeat time to you know that. Now Wisconsin's swing state the president won the state multiple times why is this year different. Well this year is different because you know right now we are in the best place possible not just to continue to have the governorship in democratic hands but our ability to take back the Senate take back the assembly and make sure that we're pushing policies that's going to benefit everybody right now the affordability crisis is ravaging so many communities across Wisconsin and across this country.

6:40And it's a direct correlation of the fact that Tom Tiffany has backed Donald Trump 100% of the time backing the tears backing this war on Iran was continues to raise costs and so this is a very important race that we need everybody across the country to pay attention to. As you're traveling around the state of Wisconsin over the past several months what have been the top things that Wisconsin residents have cared about. It's definitely affordability crisis and that can cut in many different ways right one can't afford to live in their own homes because the rise and property taxes the rise and rents and housing has become that much more affordable the cost for health care right we need to expand the bad care to make sure that people can for to get the care that they need whenever and wherever they needed but also child care you know we have to tackle the issue of child care because it's not accessible in many communities across the state of Wisconsin. And so we need people to deliver which is a stark contrast when it comes to Congressman top Tiffany who has voted every single time to back Donald Trump in the race costs on working families in Wisconsin.

7:43I got to ask you I'm sure you saw over the past week or so your opponent on Tiffany was blocking press from some of his events what's your reaction to him refusing to allow certain numbers of the press from covering him. I mean let's just be honest he is not just running from the press he's running from voters here in the state of Wisconsin because he cannot defend the policies that he had voted for the policies that he's pushed as a congressional member of being in being a Trump lapdog has just be honest about that. This is very Trump in like right he doesn't want people to know what his policies are he doesn't want to defend those policies and talk about the fact that he's continue to provide more money for billionaires and taking out of the pockets of working with Wisconsin. And so for me I'm always going to make sure that we have an open door we want our media to be able to have access to elected officials this is how we end the corruption this is how we end you know the misconceptions that people have in politics by giving people greater access to the public. Giving people greater access and that's why I'm running right to create more transparency to be open and honest with our government and making sure that people can have a seat at the table.

8:52Something that you've been attacked about by Tom Tiffany and those around him they claim that you want to quote reduce half of Wisconsin's prison population is that true. Congressman Tom Tiffany absolutely knows how to lie he's been doing that for the past 20 years he's always said one thing and does the exact opposite and what he doesn't want people to know is that we have been working directly with local municipalities across this state to bring more resources so people can fix not just their roles but invest in public safety. But we know that we also need criminal justice reform here in the state of Wisconsin making sure that we can continue to invest in our public education systems we can only invest in the back and we have to invest on the front end and by investing upstream this stops people from entering the criminal justice system in the first place and so when you hear those types of assertions we want to do what we can to make sure that people can live healthy lives once they are returning back from home we want to take care of those residents that are within our care.

9:53But at the end of the day we know that Congressman Tom Tiffany is going to resort to distraction is divisions and lies throughout this campaign. Now if you become governor you're going to be walking into the governor's mansion at a time where you have a Republican president and your the current governor of Wisconsin governor Evers has clashed with president Trump repeatedly on anything from the trade war in Canada to snap and Medicaid and more what do you envision your relationship to be like with the president. Well I'll be honest I am willing to sit down with anyone and everyone who wants to move this state forward who wants to help lower cost investing our kids and make sure that people with disabilities in our age and community they can you know age in place with dignity and we protect all of our children in Wisconsin. And so I'm willing to work with the current president but I'm always going to fight back and defend our state's values and making sure that people can cast their ballots you know by mail something that we have been doing for many many years to making sure that we continue to invest in the public education system but also make sure that we have unions and workers at the table because they've been on the menu because they've been repeatedly attacked by Congressman Tom Tiffany and this Trump administration.

11:04And so we're going to always defend and stand up to this president of my hope is that we change you know what the Congress actually looks like and Senate looks like this midterm election so we can hold him accountable and start delivering for the people that we are representing this country. Now you mentioned election you mentioned mail and ballots are you at all concerned about Wisconsin's election system especially given the threats that we've seen from the administration. You know I believe that Wisconsin we have free and fair elections you know our clerks all across this state Republican and Democrat they do their duty in making sure that people can cast their ballot at their polling locations and all the election workers who continuously do that work we truly appreciate them and there's a lot of integrity in this system but we know that Congressman Tom Tiffany and Donald Trump they continue to so doubt they continue to interrogate and intimidate many of our poll workers but we are going to have to do that. So we're going to continue to focus on our integrity and about how we have free and fair elections so I'm going to always encourage people to if you have your absentee ballot your mail in ballot here in the state of Wisconsin to make sure you fill it out and you get it in as quick as possible but we see that there's been a lot of slow downs with this postal service and so as you get closer to election day and you have your ballot in hand please go down to your clerks office drop it off make sure that you don't wait too long to cast your ballot because we know that this is going to be a lot of time to get a lot of time to do that and we're going to have to wait for the election.

12:28Because we know that they don't want people to come out to vote they want to so as much doubt as possible because they don't have any defen policies that they can actually defend that have been helping the people of Wisconsin. We've got about a month left before election day what do you need and if people want to support or help your campaign what can they do? Well I always say we need the three T's in order to defeat T3 and if you don't know who T3 is that's time terrible Tiffany but we need time you know folks who live here in the Wisconsin or wants to make sure that we don't have a mega agenda a hearing the state of Wisconsin we need your help we need you to knock on doors make phone calls and bring awareness to this campaign the second T is your talents right how did you bring you utilize your talents to bring awareness of to this campaign because it doesn't just affect Wisconsin this has ramifications across the entire country because I'm running against a mega extremist who actually voted against the 2020 election and it's actually our governor who actually certifies the election results and so when we think about the 28 election we need people to pay attention about how critical this race is and then last but certainly not least treasure we have been out fundraise by three billionaires you know 24 million dollars coming from three people is insane and so whatever people can do whether that's for the
