Nick Wize sits down with Buccaneers radio play-by-play announcer Tony Castricone for an in-depth look at Tampa Bay’s 0-3 start. Nick asks Tony what he believes is the biggest issue with the team, whether the offensive line is the primary concern, and what he has seen that suggests the Bucs are better than their record. Tony explains why Tampa Bay’s defense has been playing winning football, why eliminating turnovers is critical, and whether Jalon Daniels can inject some energy into the offense. The two also break down the controversial 4th-and-13 decision and what Tony has learned about the Packers after three weeks.

You might drink it every day, but did you know that the history of tea is steeped in Skull Duggery, Colonialism and Industrial Espionage? I'm Greg Jenner, host of Your Dead To Me with a comedy show that takes history seriously and in our latest episode we spill the tea on tea. Join us to unpack the ancient Chinese origins of the drink and find out how it became the national drink of modern Britain. Listen on BBC.com or wherever you get your podcasts.

After the game, wipe the players blood off of his face and then rubbed it on his own face. I did not. That's very strange. It was the strangest thing. I'm like, it involved Washington. I'll ask Tony if he saw this weird stuff happen. Yeah, that's weird. My mom always said if you can't say something nice don't say anything else, maybe I should just leave that one alone. All right, let's talk about the Tampa Bay Bucking Ears before I lose my audience. What do you think was the biggest issue or actually what do you think is the biggest issue with the team right now? My gut tells me it's the offensive line after watching the all 22. I know Baker's obviously the blame is going towards everyone, but what do you think the biggest issue with the team is at this moment in time? Yeah, you know, I mean for whatever reason when you know, they're in all these games, right, which is better than getting blown out all these games. So now they got to figure out when it's wing time how to make that play.

And you know, just going back to the fourth quarter, just not those conversions, not those plays that you need on the offensive side. And honestly, like, I can't read their mind. I don't know what the play was drawn up to do. It feels like there's some times where there's some guys open that Baker's missing. Obviously, there's some times where Baker's under duress that maybe the line could have held up a little bit better. Really, at the end of the day, you know, the penalties, you know, you just can't continue to have this many self inflicted wounds like you, third in 29, third in 36, multiple times. Those are impossible situations to overcome, right? So, you know, unfortunately, we're saying come some of the same things that we did against Brown's game for the Vikings game. I felt like, you know, you look at the end of the game, two turnovers, the turnovers have largely been cleaned up because those two turnovers were a desperation fourth

down pass late in the game and then a Hail Mary at the end of the game. So I don't feel like, you know, the turnovers that we were talking about after week one have been as much of an issue. They've only got one normal situation turnover over the last eight quarters. They're not generating enough habit plays on the defensive side. I think the defense has been solid. I've been really impressed with the way the secondary is played, but then generating enough habit plays on defensive side. They're having too many negative plays on the offensive side. I think special teams largely is pretty good. Of course, you don't want to give up an 86 yard punt return for a touchdown, but when you look at the body work over three games, it's been really, really solid. They're right there. Nick, I mean, I know that's not a consolation prize for anybody because you got to win a game. I think at this point, you know, you start on three. There was all the playoff talk at the beginning of the season. Right now, all that stuff goes away and you just try to figure out how to win a game this weekend against Green Bay. And they're in Green Bay, trying to figure out the same thing. You

know, they're off to a one and two start. They're very disappointed. They thought they were going to have it all together this year. They've got some of the similar offensive line problems of Tampa Bay had a year ago where they just can't get the same five together on the field right now. And so you've got a very winnable situation at home this weekend. You got to find a way to clean up enough of those things to try to help, you know, set up a rookie quarterback for success. So, so he can get them past the finish line. Tony Castro cone voice of the Buccaneers joining us right now on the Nickwise show. You brought up the fourth down turnover. Your thoughts on going for it there. I had no problem with it because if they get if they if they put it away, there's a chance they may not get the ball back. We surprised that that Todd went forward in that situation. It seems to be a controversial call in town. I think it controversial because it didn't work. That's one where you could go either way. I think if it ends up working, then yeah, everybody's going to end up feeling pretty good about it. So I mean, I think that that's one that, you know, it could go either way. I wasn't so well, I'll just tell you this. Like when I'm

in the middle of the game, you know, there are plays where, you know, I'll be really surprised that this is coming. And then, you know, if it's not it's if it's not something that surprises me, I don't really think twice about it. And I was not at all surprised to see the offense out there on the field. You know, like, I mean, it didn't catch me off guard. I wasn't like, what are they doing? It was like, okay, they're going to go. Let's see, you know, and it didn't end up working out. But yeah, that's not one that like I'm thinking back on of like if they just, if they just this, we would have had a different result. What have you learned about the Buccaneers defense after three games? I've been kind of impressed with what I've seen. I think they've been better than what I thought they would be. I just unfortunately, I think on the other side, the offense has been way worse than I thought they would be. But what are your overall thoughts about the defense after three games? Very solid against the run. I really like Aishan and Klaizha can't see in Vita Vega teaming up together on the interior of that defensive line. I think it's been they've been

solid. I think the corners, which were a big conversation like, is on McComb going to have, you know, a bounce back year. I think he's been really solid. Jacob Parrish, you know, got beat on kind of an underthroenball. But you know, for the most part, he and Dimo, when he had to fill in four pairs during the injury, I think the corners have been they've been doing their job. They've been really solid. I'm encouraged by the Tampa Bay defense because I think kind of the conversation last year was that defense was not good enough to win the number of games that you want in order to be a playoff contender. And I thought the defense pretty much played winning football on Sunday. That's my opinion. And they were going up against a Minnesota defense that's been one of the best in the league so far to begin the season. So, you know, I thought the defense held up. And now they're going to have to do it against the Green Bay team that hasn't really even tried to establish

the run. Ever since the Josh Jacob League will trouble troubles and everything, they've basically got a three-headed monster running back and none of them have been able to, it's not really a monster. Like they haven't been able to shake loose. They really haven't been able to establish much of a grand game. They're relying on Jordan love behind kind of a password offensive line to just fling it down the field. Christian Watson's been explosive at times this year. And after you've goldenized that's in big plays. But you know, it's going to be on the back half of that defense to kind of hold up and win at Green Bay. And I'm encouraged that they can do that because I think that back half has played pretty well so far. Yeah, these teams are in two similar situations both just trying to get a win on Sunday. Green Bay, Bucking Ears. You'll hear the call on 98 Rock with Tony Cash, your cone, the radio voice of the box joining us right now. Jayland Daniels, you think he can give this team a spark this weekend? What have you seen from him? Maybe this week that maybe gives you a little bit of belief in this team? Absolutely can. You know, it will it'll all come down to

those three hours on Sunday. And how well he deals with pressure. You know, I think that you know, I would expect Green Bay to try to, you know, make him sweat there. And they'll probably blitz him a lot and try to get him to have some happy feet in the pocket and and make some bad decisions. But I think Jayland Daniels is a pretty cool customer. I love the energy that he has. Like I kind of told this story on a few other shows, but like one of the things that stood out to me about him during training camp was it was the first day of training camp. And you know, on in my first year here and I'm just, well, I've got my head in the clouds just looking around. And you can see some other rookies. They're just looking around and just being like, man, you know, like first day of training camp. Jayland Daniels was running up and down the sideline jumping with his arms flailing through the air, trying to get the crowd all hyped up and like you just noticed his energy right away. And I kind of think it looked like the losing streak is kind of

gotten us some guys. And it didn't look like they were having that much fun out there in the second half. And maybe you bring in an undrafted rookies who's playing with house money and he's going to think to himself, like, hey, we got nothing to lose. Like, well, let's go. Like, let's let this thing rip and he'll play with moxie and excitement. And and if you if you can generate a couple of plays, if you can get any ends on that first drive, if you can get some positive momentum, it could really be an interesting story to watch develop. So yeah, I think, you know, I'm pretty good friends with the Kansas radio announcer Brian Haney and he told me like, man, he made Jayhawk fans fall in love with football again. Like, that is a basketball school. You know, they went from basically a keed to lead graduating until Jayland Daniels shown up on campus or they didn't have a winning season for 13 years. And then Jayland Daniels shows up and Kansas football was cool again. And let's see if he can bring that that's kind of mojo here to a Tampa Bay team that really, really wants to need to win this weekend against the Packers. Oh, we can only hope so 98

rock. That's where you can hear the game broadcast and Tony Cash to come. The voice of the Bucking Ears Tony. I really appreciate your time today. I know you got to get to some press conferences coming up in just a couple minutes. We will talk to you again at this time next Wednesday. All right. All right. Sounds great. Thanks, Nick. Appreciate you, man. That is a Tony Cash to cone. Always good to get his perspective on what's happening on Sunday. All right, ticket prices, right? That's my favorite game.
