The Yankees are moving on to face the Rays after sweeping Boston, and Tim has plenty to say about the Red Sox organization and its heavy reliance on analytics during the Wild Card series. Nick and Tim debate whether Boston overthought its postseason strategy before turning the conversation toward the Rays and asking whether Tampa Bay should rethink how heavily it leans on analytics when the games matter most.

So we'll talk about that today. We'll get the lightning in the show today because the lightning start their season tonight got the NHL Stanley Cup odds. College football going to make some changes. USF fans not going to like those changes. Tim from Boston. How are you doing today? I can say that Tampa Bay raised fans out there.

You will never have to worry about the Boston Red Sox ever again. They are a fake organization. They have no idea what they're doing and don't ever rely on analytics ever. Oh man. Yeah, analytics got the Red Sox last night. Just stupid. Both game one and game two. What do you think about the front office in Boston? horrendous. And the fact that they signed them for four more freaking years is pissing me off. Like Brussels a nerd that needs to not have a job anymore. Oh man. Well, it is Tampa Bay raised going to take on the New York Yankees. Now the best part about taking on the Yankees is you know every game is going to be in prime time. So I like that. But yeah, last night analytics got the Red Sox, which brings up the question. Do the rays need to continue to do what they do in the postseason or do they need to change things up in the post season because we all remember what happened in 2020.

I don't have to remind you you know what happened analytics pulled Blake's now and people are still upset by that. We compared it yesterday in the show. What what what what Bucks fans are going through with Liam Cohen. It's the equivalent to the race fans and Blake's now getting pulled in the world series. And that was an analytical move. Last night the New York Yankees. I'm sorry. The Boston Red Sox went with an analytical move that decided to tell them they should take out sunny Gray who was pitching pretty well. They didn't want him to go through the lineup a third time. Your thoughts on the analytical move Tim. No, it just it goes to show that one, it starts from the top. These guys have no feel for the freaking game. Not to mention Chad Tracy who was a minor league manager at best clearly has zero control on what is dictated in that game. I hope you guys are enjoying this today. You're getting pain and misery from a red socks guy. I'm just saying that of all the pitchers in Major League Baseball who you want to go

through the third time around in the order. You want sunny Gray. He's got the best ERA in the sixth inning in Major League Baseball and they pull him. Why? How long do you think it took him to get the the sticky stuff off of his neck? He clearly has something on his neck last night. And now I'm seeing now I'm seeing I think Red Sox fans and even some Yankees fans who are just like, hey, you know, maybe Chad did the right thing by pulling them because he would have been suspended. No, the Red Sox are just stupid. The stupid organization, stupid franchise, they don't get it. I'm not even going to tell you to stop talking about them because I think Tampa Bay fans are probably enjoying your misery, knowing that the entire city of Boston feels like you today. Oh, yeah. No, and I'm more than willing to keep this going. But I know we got a Tampa Bay show to do today. So I don't want to keep this going all afternoon. I've been hearing it all morning.

We sit right across from each other. He was going on a rant this morning in our boss box. That just looks at Tim says nothing, kind of smiles and walks away. But yeah, analytics got the got the best of the Red Sox and we're familiar with that here. It is interesting because analytics has definitely helped the race get to the record they achieved and and help them win the AL East. But I do think they need to attack the postseason differently. I would like to see pictures go longer where typically in the regular season, you're taking somebody out, maybe in the six, I'd like to see Drew Rasmussen on Saturday night. If he's doing well, let's throw him into the seventh. And you know what? If he's on fire and he's pitching great, go ahead and throw him out there for the eight. I don't care. It like I would like to to change things up a little bit. I also don't want to deviate from the plan too much. You still got to go by what got you here.

So it's kind of hit or miss. But yeah, last night, the Red Sox relied on it. We're with our couple players that called out the analytics. Last night didn't contraris say something about the analytics. Yeah, Wilson Contraris when asked a couple of questions, he gave the key to the lip, like just turning it like he's not going to say anything because he doesn't want to get in trouble with the team. Sonny Gray when asked about potentially coming back and staying with the Red Sox, he just had a quote that was like, I don't remember exactly, but he was pissed at the Red Sox right fully. So essentially said he ain't coming back. Pretty much. Wilson Contraris is the first base. I mean, I don't know what first of all him not stepping on first base last night. What the hell was that? What did he say about the analytics? He, let me just pull it up here. It's just they have no idea what they're doing. They don't care about the game itself. It's all about the numbers and what the numbers tell you, which is so ridiculous.

That's why that's why I've been rooting for the race all season long because they don't, they're playing small ball. They're doing things that analytics tells them they shouldn't be doing. And the last thing I want to see is Spike Lee and another championship. I saw him in the front row last night. You know, a lot of takes as love Tim, definitely love hearing him voice is disdain for the Red Sox. So much for the Red Sox making that a series. Yeah, that was, it was boring. I would just happy the Red Sox finally scored when they did. Yeah. Oh, the Contraris quote just, he said, you have to do a lot of different stuff. It's not enough when you have talent or you have data or you have computers telling you what to do because this is baseball. The data is here to help us. But at the end of the day, you need experience in veteran guys to win games. There's a lot of stuff I would like to say, but I'll state it like that. And I mean, he said a lot of things right there. Pretty much. So where are you at as a Tampa Bay race fan when it comes to analytics?

I mean, the race, they rely on analytics more than any other organization. As Wilson Contraris write, do analytics work compost season time? We know they work in the regular season. The race, they've had tremendous success in the regular season. They haven't had that success in October. So do they need to change their approach as a fan? Do you want them to change their approach? Again, I'm kind of in the middle of this. I think you change it a little bit, but I, they can't just go away from the analytics altogether. But I would like to see in those situations like, all right, let's say, you've got a good hitter up, all right? Let's say it's, you know, I can use any, it's hard with the race because they got so many guys that can do so many different things. Let's say, Velaid is, Velaids up to bat and they'll pinch it, Velaid and they'll bring in Williamsson. You know, like the race will do like weird things like that, right? Like, Velaid will be three for three.

And then they'll change a pitcher and then Williamsson will come in who's been struggling at the time and he'll come in and pinch it. Those are some of the moves that I wouldn't mind getting away from. Wasn't it earlier this year, like, and to go onto that point, didn't earlier this year, Kevin Cash did exactly that, Velaid got substituted for, I think, Cedric Mullins and Cedric Mullins, all of a sudden hit a home run that one at bat, something like that. He pinched it, I'm waiting the game, he's struggling and then all of a sudden, maybe, maybe it wasn't Mullins, but someone to that effect. I think it was the first game of the season. If you go back, I believe Ben Williamsson was like three for three and then they pinched him for Palacios who, I think it was like the third game of the year. Palacios hadn't had a hit yet. Williamsson was the hottest hit around the team and they took him out because of analytics. And those look, that's what the race do. That's what makes them successful. I just, I'd like to see maybe, maybe less of that when it comes to the point, like if somebody is three for three and you're in the eighth inning, but you don't like the

pitching matchup. I don't know. I think I might want to, I think I might want to just stick with the guy that's three for three. But, you know, Kevin Cash is going to do what Kevin Cash does and it's hard for me to criticize him because the race have had so much success. But fans will still criticize Kevin Cash. I mean, that's, that's just going to happen naturally. But I did think it was kind of interesting last night to see the Red Sox go down the way that they did. And now we are set up for the New York Yankees to come here. Game one will be interesting. Now, you're going to have Drew Rasmussen on the mound and the Yankees are still undecided who they're going to throw out there. I'm wondering if they're going to throw Schlittler out there. I've always got to think real hard before I say his name to every single time. I got to like stop Schlittler and think about it. And I think, I think they're going to throw him in game two. We're kind of talking about that in the hall before the show started. It feels like they'll start because he threw 117 pitches the other night.

That was the one good thing. Correct. Yeah, that was the one good thing that came out of the series. I was hoping it was going to go another game. What I don't like the fact that it starts on a Tuesday. I actually would like the team with the buy to have a bigger advantage. I would like for the wild card to start on Wednesday and you have to do a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and turn around and play the favor. Very next day. That's what I would like. I mean, that's a true home field advantage. Now the wild card team in the A L, the wild card teams with the buy are seven and one. So the numbers do favor them on the NL side, though, they're two and six. So the numbers don't favor the teams with the buy. And I would take that this year. Let's go. Guardians are the one and they lose. Let's have them lose, right? Let's love them be the one wild card team with the loss and then give me a Dodgers and a Brewers loss. Let's get it. Yeah. No, it would be fun. And analytics. I hate it. I hate it. Texas says I hear the Boston accent coming out and Nick, you're not wrong. I'm totally enjoying the Boston crash and burn.

You're welcome, Tampa Bay. You know, Tim is always a great sport and look, even if he is from a place we all despise. He's been a great race guy. I mean, I'll never forget it because he's so against his front office. He was like, we're halfway through the show and I realized he's wearing a racer. And I'm like, wait, they're playing Boston. And I go, I don't care. And I'm like, okay, interesting. You know, and then they resigned the front office and now he hates his team. I mean, I'm a, I love the red socks, but it's there. They are not a serious organization and will never compete for championships until they get rid of the front office until they bring an actual baseball people. And it all started when John Henry was a cheap, cheap bum by trading away. Moody friggin bad. All right. Oh, yeah. That's the other thing he was doing at my desk today showing me moody bets highlights in a red socks jersey. He goes, I'll never forgive them for this. Oh, my God.

This is great. Guys, we're in for a treat like the one thing. If you are a diehard Gators fan, I sucks when you lose a college football. A game, but just think of what this is good because the Gators are his favorite team. Just imagine what we get with the Boston accident when the Gators go down. You should have heard me. I was rude from a zoo this weekend for Monday show. No, you should have heard me after the Florida Mississippi State game. It was, oh, God, how did I phrase it? I don't know if you can say it on the radio. No, it was, it was clean, but it was just like, it was basically the game of dumb versus dumber. Oh, man. This is great. All right. And then, I think that the state front line that's probably the right line for the race fans 888, 388, 099 57. After watching the red socks go down last night, based on really a turning point in the game was an analytical move, do you want the race, the stick with what they're doing?

Or do you want them to be kind of somewhere in the middle here in postseason baseball? I don't want them to 100% get away from the analytics, but I would like to see them change up things just a little bit from what they do in the regular season.
